Welcome in, everybody, on this Monday, the 6th of July, on the episode that is known, I guess, the other M. I was gone all last week, and it was glorious. And it kills me a little to be out for big stuff while I was away. The big thing was the Supreme Court birthright citizenship ruling, which was… And I’ve got a thing or two to say about that because it was a big part of the radio show this morning. A lot of us gathering together for a little strategy session on what do you do? What do you do when the Supreme Court just doesn’t get it? What do you do when when when people in black robes with big brains and big legal resumes just don’t get it? And I’m prepared to write off the Ketanji Brown Jackson, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan wing of activist judiciary. I mean, they’re just always going to. not according to the Constitution, but according to the way they just kind of think life ought to be. They will forever legislate from the bench. But it’s just not acceptable. Well, first of all, that’s not acceptable. I guess I’m calling it acceptable because I could bang my head against the wall forever. There shouldn’t be anybody on a Supreme Court that is this willfully constitutionally blind. Those three women, women, mind you, We’re on, thank God, the losing side, because at least the gender case went well. Birthright citizenship did not. The states that said that dared to say, hey, we’re not going to have boys and girls sports. How about that? And some people sued in the Supreme Court ruled correctly on that. But, of course, states can keep men out of you keep boys out of girls locker rooms, men out of women’s sports, et cetera, et cetera. But three notable women did not rush to the aid of young women. Now, here’s the thing. They’re not supposed to rule according to shared gender, shared race, shared politics, shared anything. The thing we’re supposed to share is constitutional fidelity. I know there are some cases where even if you try to see things through a constitutional lens, you’ll get different answers. You know, what is or is not a First Amendment case can sometimes be kind of tricky. What does or doesn’t the Second Amendment say? I somehow have never had a big difficulty with that. But it’s like, OK, I get it. I got my side. Others have their side. This one, you know, the gender thing shouldn’t have been hard and neither should birthright citizenship. Neither should birthright citizenship. The framers of the 14th Amendment never envisioned, never, that you simply walk across the Rio Grande or hop off a plane, instant citizen. No one ever even thought that would happen. It was primarily about freed slaves and their progeny. And because we had people who obviously were not only were they not citizens, they weren’t people. I just remember in history class, remembering the three fifths compromise. It’s like, OK, the slaves, how about if we count them for the purpose of a census and congressional apportionment? How about three fifths of three fifths of a person? Good Lord. Well, we did that. We got better. But not only were they not citizens, they weren’t even people. They were property at the outset, as I’m sure you recall. We needed to make clear that they were also citizens and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States rather than some foreign power. That’s why this 1898 case, United States versus Wong Kim Ark, he was granted citizenship. His parents were legal permanent residents, but they were not citizens. They owed their allegiance to who? The emperor of China. So young Wong Kim Ark, lovely gentleman, I’m sure, should not have been a United States citizen, period. Now, final word on this before we do a little July 4th wrap up. July 4th rocked. I hope you had a fantastic July 4th. Whatever you’re doing. I was on Lake Louisville in North Texas with some friends on a boat watching fireworks. It says America to me, man. It says America. I’ll tell you what else says America. Staying up till midnight and watching fireworks in Washington, D.C. A bunch of people did that. Oh, it was glorious. And we got some of President Trump’s remarks, which were just wonderfully uplifting. It was just it was just a joy. As as we look at those celebrations and as we take a look at some of the Supreme Court stuff in the midst of all of this. The bow that I try to tie around this is that constitutional fidelity should unite everybody, which doesn’t mean that we’re going to agree on every Supreme Court case. But when it’s right there on the page in front of you, which, by the way, abortion was this simple, took us 50 years to get to this one. There’s no right to abortion in the Constitution. Are you high? For 50 years, we had that because some people thought, well, we just didn’t want to tell the little lady that she couldn’t get the abortion. Well, guess what? You invented a right that did not exist. It was a complete constitutional fiction. So I tell you what, it is the Constitution we honor. It is our founders we honor. It is our amazing history that we honor as we take a look at America’s 250th birthday, the beginning of our 251st year. Went through the mill with some people on this as we begin our 250th year. No, no, no, no. When you’re born, you begin your first year on your 250th birthday. You begin your 250 first year. So got that. Thank you. President Trump was clearly a big part of it. He was always going to be flyovers and flags and fireworks and festivities. All the F’s. There are some other Fs from Democrats, too, who just cannot be bothered to love and admire and revere and lift up and hold up this country. So I’ll tell you what let’s do. First cut is of President Trump. And I just want you to just. If you saw this, it’s great to see it again. If you didn’t, it’s just an opportunity to go right to the nation’s capital to where they kept everybody up pretty late for this. But it was well, well worth it as the 47th president weighs in on some of what made this particular American birthday so special.

And as I said last night at the beautiful Mount Rushmore, what a beautiful place, where Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt loomed over my shoulder as I spoke. America will never be a communist country. Won’t happen. Communism is a loser and it always will be. The communist system is the opposite. Our warriors did not fight communism on battlefields across the world, only to have that menace rear its ugly head right back here in America. We’re not going to let it happen. We like to stop a threat like that immediately and before it begins. It’s like a cancer. You got to cut it out. You got to cut it out fast.

The Overton window on communism, on socialism and elected officials, I described taking calls from people, let’s say 30. shoot, 30 years ago, mid 90s, where somebody would call and they’d say, yeah, Marco, I think that Congressman Joe Blow, I think he’s a socialist. And I’d say, OK, all right, back it down, sir or ma’am. And they might have some views that lean a little towards socialism, but they’re not actually socialists. Now they are proudly socialists. The AOC wing, the commie corridor, these people who are winning primary after primary after primary after primary. They absolutely are self-described socialists espousing things that are straight from the Marx, M-A-R-X, not Mark apostrophe as a communist manifesto. It’s like, where are we? And I would I would think I would think that’s a gift. I would think that would help us to to stave off the disaster that supposedly lies ahead for us in the midterms tomorrow. For Tuesday, we’re going to talk a little bit about in the midterms and how to succeed in them and some things, some things that are challenges and some things that might be that might be. Let’s just call them gifts, little gift wrap things that might help us out a little bit. And the the craziness of today’s Democrat Party is one of them. I’m going to take about three, four more minutes today and let’s take a look at some of the things that were big in today’s news. And one thing I want to pay a tribute to somebody who deserves to have a tribute paid to him today, another American president on his birthday. We’ll get to that here in a second. As we are doing this live, it’s middle of the day on Monday, July 6th. So whether you’re sort of downloading on Apple or Spotify later in the day, let’s presume that if you’re pretty quick on the uptake that the USA and Belgium have not played yet. OK. So you know how this played out, right, versus Bosnia-Herzegovina. Our guy and the Bosnia guy are both running toward the ball. Our guy’s foot comes down on the other guy’s ankle. Ouch. Hate when that happens. Could it have been a yellow card? Maybe. Was it intentional in the least? No. Was it the stuff of a red card? Absolutely not. That’s crazy. And you know who ultimately thought it was crazy? FIFA. The actual soccer gods. They took a look at that and said, no, that wasn’t a red card. We’re going to take away the suspension and our guy can play versus Belgium. They did exactly the right thing. Would that it were that simple because President Trump got on the horn to the FIFA people. That’s not right. That’s not it’s not a red card. So now it looks to everybody like Trump has FIFA around his middle finger, middle, excuse me, little around his little finger. Yeah. Freudian slip. Trump maybe gave the middle finger to FIFA and got them to buckle under. FIFA hates him. The refs hate America. Are you kidding? They’re not going to accede to our requests or bend to our wishes or anything like that in the least. So they did the right thing. Just let that marinate and we’ll see what happens when we are at full strength. against Belgium out there in Seattle. That is apparently going to be, I mean, Seattle’s a weird part of the country, beautiful part of the country, politically weird. If you talk about sports fans in that building, you know, your Seahawks, your 12th man, that building has bred some enthusiasm in the past. And I’m guessing it will, as Team USA takes the, not the field, it’s the pitch. I’m learning the lexicon against Belgium this evening. Today is George W. Bush’s 80th birthday. George W. is 80. When I came back to my native Texas in 1994, there was a gubernatorial campaign underway and he was running. And. He was known as a sports figure, son of the president, of course, Bush 41. He obviously wasn’t Bush 43 yet. And he wasn’t even governor George W. Bush yet. But I I helped him achieve that in my small little way. I’m seeing a few things for him and glad to do so. It was an interesting primary that year. A lot of people wondered whether and, you know, the usual nepotism vibe was, oh, well, just being a president’s son, that doesn’t make you fit to be a governor. And by the way, that’s correct. You had to have the right policies, the right countenance, the right kind of approach, run the right kind of campaign, do the right kind of fundraising, have the right friends and get enough voters, and then you succeed. And he did. And so he wins and becomes governor in 1994, runs for reelection in 1998. Everybody knows, my dog knows, and when he’s running in 1998, that if he wins and is sworn in in, you know, in January of 1999, is the calendar starting to take shape for you? Everybody knew that in his second term. George W. Bush was immediately going to start running for president. And no one minded. I mean, no one. He can’t be governor and run for it. Well, guess what? He did. He did fine in his second term as well.

winning for president, which kind of abbreviated that, which is what started the lengthy service of Rick Perry. It is not it’s it’s not the same George W. And I’ll tell you what I want to do on this, his 80th birthday. I want to remember the guy I remember. Remember the guy I know. The guy I actually know in his Texas history. The guy I know throwing out that pitch at Yankee Stadium. The guy I know with the bullhorn standing amid the wreckage. The guy I know who’s he and his family have such a heart for service. So before Trump broke them, broke the entire family, although George P is fine, I believe. Jeb is getting better. But man, I, you know, I said, I don’t want to dwell on this and I’m not going to, but maybe it’s having Jeb kick so hard as he was by Trump and family does mean something. But at some point you got to come back to where the American people are. Not that, you know, George W needs to walk around wearing a MAGA hat every day, but just can we stop the hate a little bit? Enough about that. On this his 80th birthday, let us remember his and his family’s genuine heart for service and the many, many, many things that he and his family have done for our country, for our state here in Texas. And I wish him and Laura great health, great happiness. And so just thank you, Mr. President. Thank you, Governor Bush. Thank you, my friend, George W. And I hope you have the very happiest of birthdays.
