The Los Angeles Angels announced on Thursday that they have acquired veteran outfielder/DH Jorge Soler from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning.
Soler, 32 hit .241/.338/.442 (121 OPS+) with 21 home runs and 34 doubles in a combined 142 games for the Giants and Braves. Through his career, Soler has 191 home runs and 197 doubles, putting up a 48-homer season for the Royals in 2019. In 2021, Soler earned World Series MVP honors as a member of the Braves, who reacquired him ahead of the 2024 trade deadline in July. Soler will enter the second year of a three-year, $42 million contract he signed while with the Giants in February.
Canning, 28, registered an ERA of 5.19 in 31 starts and one relief appearance for the Angels this season. He has a career ERA+ of 92 over parts of five MLB seasons with the Angels.
