Thomas from High Five Plumbing joins the conversation to provide timely advice on plumbing issues that homeowners often face. With Thanksgiving heralding the busiest day for plumbers, Thomas stresses the importance of preemptive measures to avoid disasters such as clogged drains. He emphasizes the necessity of maintaining garbage disposals and avoiding the disposal of fats and greases to prevent blockages. These simple steps can ensure your holiday entertaining is not interrupted by unforeseen plumbing catastrophes.
The discussion quickly turns to the electrical demands that accompany the season. With holiday lights adorning homes across the nation, there can be an increased risk of overloading circuits. Thomas highlights the value of performing electrical safety checks, especially for older homes where circuits may need updating to handle the extra load. The team also suggests installing smart plugs for convenience and efficiency, sparing homeowners from unsightly and potentially hazardous extension cords.
Amid these practical tips, the episode offers a light-hearted pivot to a review of ‘The Best Christmas Pageant Ever’. As they go over the film, both John and Andy examine the story’s themes, weaving in real-life parallels and reflecting on how the tale of acceptance and growth resonates with the importance of community and adaptation during the holiday season.

SPEAKER 04 :
It's finally Friday on Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 17 :
So I tell him I'm a pro jack.
SPEAKER 04 :
And who do you think they give me?
SPEAKER 17 :
The Dolly Lama. So we finish 18, and he's going to sniff me. And I say, hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know? And he says, oh, it won't be any money. But when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness. So I got that going.
SPEAKER 10 :
And movie reviews with Andy Payne.
SPEAKER 15 :
I think that you got the wrong impression about me. I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do.
SPEAKER 03 :
What I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
SPEAKER 10 :
What do you want to do tonight?
SPEAKER 03 :
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world. Stick a fork in me, Jerry. I'm done.
SPEAKER 04 :
Now, here is your host of Rush to Reason, John Rush.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right. Welcome. Friday edition. Rush to Reason. Denver's Afternoon Rush. KLZ 560. Myself, Andy Pate. Charlie Grimes, of course, with us as well. Thomas from High Five Plumbing Heating is with us as well. What's going on, Thomas? And electrical now, I should say.
SPEAKER 19 :
Doing well. How are you doing?
SPEAKER 05 :
I'm good, Thomas. You guys are ready for the holidays?
SPEAKER 19 :
Yeah, that's right. We absolutely are ready for the holidays. Obviously, for us, that usually means a lot of emergency calls, but yeah, we're ready.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, so walk us through things that folks should be ready for as we head into the holidays. Last thing, not that you guys don't want the business around the holidays, you'll take it, but nobody wants to have a drain clog or a water problem on Thanksgiving Day.
SPEAKER 19 :
That's exactly right. I think I mentioned this last time we spoke, but the day after Thanksgiving is actually the busiest day of the year for plumbers because people aren't taking care of their plumbing. So one of the big things that we like to remind people of, particularly, is garbage disposals. If your kitchen isn't ready to take on the extra wear and tear, you know, the grease of cooking and holiday food and whatnot, now's the time to make sure that you get that up to date so that you don't have an emergency on your hands during or the day after Thanksgiving.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, rule of thumb when it comes to what should go down the disposal, and I get it. Some of that has to do with whether you're on city plumbing or septic or whatever. But in general, Thomas, what shouldn't go down the drain?
SPEAKER 19 :
Yeah. I mean, ultimately, the answer is if you think it's going to be bad for your plumbing, it's probably going to be bad for your plumbing, obviously. We don't recommend ever putting any kind of liquid grease or fat down the drain. Try to avoid putting way too much down there, obviously. But, again, it's one of those things where it's not that hard to install, and it'll save you a massive – save you from a massive headache if you get a new one installed. So if you're having questions about whether or not yours can kind of take the wear and tear of the holiday season, now's the time to get that addressed. So yeah, right now we're actually offering $50 off to your listeners exclusively if they are in need of any kind of plumbing repair or anything like that, you know, as we're entering the holiday season. And the other thing is, obviously, as you know, we had that crazy snowstorm pretty wild for at that point in November. But, you know, we got plenty of calls already from people with damaged plumbing from not winterizing their pipes. So we obviously want to remind everybody, make sure your sprinkler system is off, make sure your pipes are insulated, just protect your plumbing at all costs because you don't want to have that costly repair and headache a few weeks from now.
SPEAKER 05 :
One last thing, too, before we let you go electrical, that's something you guys have added. I mean, and I'm assuming, Thomas, any electrical problem people are having, they can call you?
SPEAKER 19 :
That's exactly right. And we also offer financing. So obviously some of these things can be a pretty penny. So if you're not going to be able to address those things before they turn into bigger issues or if you have those projects that you need to knock out, we're willing to work with you, make sure that we can figure out a solution that's good for your wallet and not going to make it a headache for you.
SPEAKER 11 :
Thomas, really quick, with all the lights and festivities surrounding the holiday times, do you see more electricity, more electrical needs just being overloaded?
SPEAKER 19 :
Oh, yeah, absolutely. I mean, people yeah, people definitely just overload their systems. It's pretty common that we have to get out to houses and we find plenty of breakers and circuits that are completely outdated. And so we need to get those replaced for sure. So definitely a hazard that you and a headache that you can avoid by getting ahead of that or at least just getting this out there to do an electrical safety check to make sure your house is equipped to take on all the extra charge.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, a tip I'm going to give everybody, this is more tomorrow morning Fix It Radio at 9, but what I will tell you guys is, and I know, Thomas, this will vary from home to home, but if people are going to stay in a home for a while, and if they want a really good tip for doing Christmas lights, call you guys out and have a smart plug installed in your Eve for your Christmas lights so you're not running extension cords all over the place.
SPEAKER 11 :
What's that, Thomas?
SPEAKER 05 :
Can you explain that for me? Yeah, that's exactly right.
SPEAKER 19 :
Sorry, speaking about Christmas lights, just making sure that people's homes are protected and ready to take care of.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, or have you guys out, and I'm lucky. My previous homeowner thought of this on the rebuild when he did it, and he put sockets, so plugs, in the eave, so in the soffit of the roof, so over the roof overhang. I've got plugs there where you go to plug your Christmas lights in for the roof. There's already a plug there. I'm not running extension cords.
SPEAKER 19 :
Oh, that's great. Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER 05 :
And that's something you guys can probably add in on some homes, Thomas.
SPEAKER 19 :
Absolutely, 100%. And all of our electricians are completely certified, so wherever you need one, we're probably going to be able to make that happen for you.
SPEAKER 05 :
There you go. All right, just a little tip for all of you. If you're a big Christmas light person and you want a little bit easier way of doing that down the road and you put a smart plug in, it's even easy to control down the road where you can even control the lights on and off without ever doing anything. It's all... And I know, Thomas, again, you guys can do that stuff. All right, 877-WE-HIGH-5. That's the number to call. If you forget that, go to any of my websites. You'll find them there as well. Thomas, we want to wish you guys a very, very happy Thanksgiving and appreciate all you do for us.
SPEAKER 19 :
Yeah, I appreciate it, John. Have a great rest of your day.
SPEAKER 05 :
You do the same, man. Appreciate you very much. And, yeah, the smart plug thing is really cool. They work great. Most people don't think of it. They should come, like, standard on a house, but most people don't think about it.
SPEAKER 11 :
Seems like kind of a handy place to put it, too. I mean, it's right under an overhang. It's not going to get wet.
SPEAKER 05 :
Nope. It's super easy. And they put the covered, you know, by code, have to have the covered plug and all that. Sure, of course. Literally pop the cover off, plug your lights in, run it around the roof of the house, and voila, you're done.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
Piece of cake.
SPEAKER 11 :
I have extension cords going. I just wrap them around the entire house.
SPEAKER 05 :
Andy is Clark.
SPEAKER 11 :
If I were literally to pull hard on it, the entire house would spin.
SPEAKER 05 :
There you go. All right. Okay, so movies. We got Red One and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.
SPEAKER 11 :
Is that correct? Yes, we're going to do Best Christmas Pageant first.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, best Christmas pageant ever first, and then we'll do red one right after that. All right, before we move on, you just heard from Hi-Fi Plumbing a moment ago. I said it a second ago, best way to get a hold of them, 877-WE-HI-5.
SPEAKER 20 :
The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest plumbing day of the year. Don't let your home get stopped up. Just call High Five. During the holidays, your plumbing works overtime. Visitors and guests, big meals, we don't need to tell you. And when your main line gets clogged, your floor and sink drains can back up, causing flooding. And even if it hasn't gotten to the point of backing up yet, you still have a big problem that gets bigger every day. It's recommended that you have a plumbing inspection early, and an inspection from High Five can be scheduled as soon as the same day. For a limited time, they'll give you an additional $35 off a drain cleaning just for being a KLZ listener. So find out more about what High Five Plumbing, Electrical, Heating, and Cooling can do for you this holiday season by clicking their link on the klzradio.com advertisers page.

SPEAKER 16 :
Suck it up, buttercup.
SPEAKER 11 :
Back to Rush to Reason. And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Denver's Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. John Rush, together with Andy Pate. And John, are you ready for a movie?
SPEAKER 05 :
It's that time of the year, absolutely.
SPEAKER 11 :
It is that time of the year. It's that time of the week. Okay, John, quick question here. Do churches have less peer pressure or more than the outside world?
SPEAKER 05 :
More.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. You're in this little community and you're all expected to hold a high moral standard. And so you're all looking at each other all the time. Let's just be honest, right? Yeah, absolutely. Well, the heat is on in the best Christmas pageant ever.
SPEAKER 09 :
For as long as I can remember, our little town has loved Christmas. And nothing is more important than our annual Christmas pageant. The pageant is sacred.
SPEAKER 11 :
Special mention to Grace for volunteering to direct the pageant.
SPEAKER 09 :
But this year, the Herdmans changed everything. Now.
SPEAKER 07 :
The Herdmans are absolutely the worst kids in the history of the world. You ready for this? You're gonna be in your Bible play. This is gonna be a real disaster. That's the spirit. Would anyone like to volunteer for Mary and Joseph? Who's Mary? Baby Jesus' mom? Suppose that's that then.
SPEAKER 08 :
The hard men shouldn't be here.
SPEAKER 06 :
They're a poor influence.
SPEAKER 08 :
It might be the first Christmas pageant in history where Joseph and the wise men get in a fight. And Mary hightails it with the baby.
SPEAKER 11 :
Five bucks say they burned down the manger.
SPEAKER 07 :
This year, we get to be someone else, live a different life, become someone new.
SPEAKER 09 :
Why are they still here? Jesus was born for the herdmans as much as he was for us. We'll be missing the whole point now if we turn them away. I'm not quite sure what's going to happen. Maybe that's not a bad thing. Because Mary and Joseph weren't so sure either. She's crying. Mary's crying. It's going to be the best Christmas pageant ever.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right, John, what do you think? Sounds cute. You like these Christmas family movies, don't you? Yeah, they're okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
The faith-based... It's not like one I go run to to go watch on a weekend, but... No. I'd rather watch Die Hard, but hey, whatever.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, yeah, we're guys.
SPEAKER 05 :
I mean, come on. Exactly.
SPEAKER 11 :
This is a faith-based movie. Okay. All right, Judy Greer. She stars as Grace, a Christian stay-at-home mom. Now, Grace is a little bit of an outcast in today's church, John, because she doesn't have a job. And you see that, don't you, in the church today? Sure. Yeah, the stay-at-home moms, that used to be the thing. And nowadays, they're kind of looked down on at times by the working mothers. I mean, be honest. Don't you see it? What, you're just at home?
SPEAKER 05 :
You're just a stay-at-home mom? Yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
I have my job. Boy, I put in these hours. I did this. I'm moving up.
SPEAKER 05 :
I have a career.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. Well, then a need arises. When the usual Christmas pageant director falls ill, actually... It's a little worse than that. Something happens to her. No one is available to step in, so Grace volunteers. She's entering a political quagmire. You see, the pageant, it's always done the same stuffy way for all the stuffy church leaders. And, of course, this is the 75th year of it, so got to get it right. So Grace is supposed to keep it the same stuffy way, not offending anyone. And that's when she intends to do. But there's a problem. A group of bad kids from a bad family named the Herdmans. You never see the parents. Okay. All right. These kids terrorize teachers, parents, peer trouble. They are bullies. They take stuff from people. They rob people. I mean, they decide they want to be in the play now. They want to be in the play. Their leader, Imogene, she smokes cigars and bullies the girls at school, especially Grace's daughter, Beth. Well, the Herdman's dad is actually gone, left long ago, and their mom is never seen. She's barely home at all. They are on their own. They are absolutely neglected. When somebody goes over to their home delivering something, it's just the kids. Always. They're the only ones there. Basically, Imogene leads this group of criminals, but now she wants to play Mary. Grace is encouraged by church women to bar these kids from the play and from the church. These parents want Grace to get them completely out of their church altogether. But there's something about Imogene. She's tough, just like the original Mary. And besides, her group has terrified the other kids out of volunteering for the lead roles. So Grace is in a hard place. She can't get anybody else to play these roles because the Herdmans bullied them out of doing it. And yet, Grace struggles with this. She struggles with the idea of getting them out of these roles, wrecking the pageant. You know, I mean, look, it comes down to this, John. On the one hand, she is told that she's got to drive a bunch of kids out of the church. I mean, that feels terrible, right? On the other hand, if she wrecks the pageant, that's going to keep her as a social outcast. She doesn't want that either. And also, let's face it, she cares about the people in the church. She doesn't want to wreck their pageant. They wait all year for this.
SPEAKER 05 :
True.
SPEAKER 11 :
She doesn't want them to have this terrible memory on this great night of the year. Well, ultimately, grace must make hard calls. And either churchgoers, either they need to be more patient or the herdmans are going to learn to be respectful. Who will win? Who will learn? Anyone? And that's the story of the best Christmas pageant ever. What do you think?
SPEAKER 04 :
Sounds like real life. Yeah, it does. It does sound like real life. Sorry that I say that.
SPEAKER 11 :
But that's what this is about. It's about real life. Well, what works in the best Christmas pageant ever? First of all, Molly Bell Wright and Beatrice Snyder. They're perfect as Beth and Imogene. Okay. I mean... They are letter perfect. I was very impressed with these two. Next, there's a good message about allowing kids, allowing people really to be what they've never been before. Because that was Imogene talking, you heard in the trailer. And she's talking to the rest of her family saying, this is our chance to be someone we've never been. Because let's face it, they have a hard life, right? Parents are gone. They've been abandoned. And they're just trying to scrape it out on their own. And she says, this is our chance to be someone else for a change. Next, you know, we Christianize and sanitize the Christmas story. We do.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, we do.
SPEAKER 11 :
It's this cute, perfect little thing. These, the Herdmans, they see it as it really happened. They have the Christmas story read to them, and it's a really good scene, and they've never heard it before. Everybody else has, so everybody else is bored, and they're like, shut up, we want to listen. They want to hear this, and they get really angry. They want Pilot offed in the play. They want him killed. So they want a part of the play where Pilot gets killed. I thought that was pretty funny. And they want violence in the play because they feel that this is just wrong. What do you mean she was stuck out in the barn? You know, because we always see it as the major being this perfect, beautiful little scene with the straw and you got the little place and all this. And it's like it was a smelly, awful.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, in reality, it was absolutely one of the most despicable places you could have had a baby.
SPEAKER 11 :
In modern days, this is out in the alley.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. By the dumpster. Right. Yeah. That's a good way of saying it, Andy. Actually, let's do this. Yeah, go ahead. Take the, because I do some of this type of work, so I see some of these things. Yeah. Go take the nastiest back alley behind the dirtiest, stinkiest Chinese restaurant you can imagine. Yeah. And that's where Jesus was born. He was born by that dumpster over there. That's right. That oil barrel that's also there that they pour everything into that makes that whole back alley where the rats and everything else are running around. Right. That's where he was born.
SPEAKER 11 :
Right, exactly. And the people in the church, they've forgotten this. They always have this perfect vision of it in their mind.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, there's a little straw here and a few little hay bales that people are sitting on and so on. Yeah, they're all dialed in and look great.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, everything's great.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah. Yeah. Not hardly.
SPEAKER 11 :
The Herdmans, when they listen to the story, they actually see it exactly as it was for them.
SPEAKER 05 :
They get it. And one other thing to add to that. And they're mad. That most people don't realize. The manger wasn't wood. In that day, the manger would have been a stone feeding and water trough for the animals, and that's most likely where they laid Jesus. It was probably on some sort of a stone trough, not some nice little wooden manger that we now depict.
SPEAKER 11 :
So they didn't have an elegant suite?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, no. No.
SPEAKER 11 :
Up in the top floor.
SPEAKER 05 :
We get so many of these things wrong in today's world because we've modernized it in a way.
SPEAKER 11 :
It's like last week when we did a movie with Jesus as the carpenter and he had guns, man. And by guns, I mean big arms.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, yeah, a carpenter would have big arms.
SPEAKER 04 :
He'd be really strong.
SPEAKER 11 :
I just thought this was really interesting. Another thing, I enjoyed the men in the movie because the men in the movie, they often... enjoyed Jesus being presented as more real. They liked this. They were actually liking the way this was coming out much more than some of the ladies. Now, you've got to keep in mind the men are slobs. So it's not like this is presenting men as great and women as bad. The men are slobs. That just happened to work here.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay. And the women are the ones who are having to tend to the church running like a top, which is actually very important. All right. So that's what works in the best Christmas pageant ever. What doesn't work in the best Christmas pageant ever? Well, like most Christian films, it feels a little low budget and simplistic, but it's a kid's film. Yep. It's not that big of a deal. Right. The stereotypes of uppity Christians are a bit overplayed. They really are. Some nuance would have helped. And I understand they're overdoing it to be entertaining, but it's kind of like, you know, the women in the church. I've been in church. They're not that bad. But OK, why not? Next, the acting for most of the kids is pretty low grade.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right.
SPEAKER 05 :
So not high quality as far as I'm concerned.
SPEAKER 11 :
No, this is not stand by me. In the next hour, of course, we're going to be doing movies with kids in them. Well, this is not quite on that level. Okay. And finally, here's the biggie. The pace does slow at a few times. It really does. It started slow. It ends very strong. This movie ends very well, but it starts rather slow and is kind of hard to go through. And honestly, I thought they missed a number of opportunities where they could have made it even funnier than they did. They could have had a little better writing. They should have taken another few days and really worked on the writing. But not bad.
SPEAKER 05 :
But they did.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay. Rotten Tomatoes gave this 90%.
SPEAKER 05 :
Really? For Rotten Tomatoes? Yeah. Are they ill? I don't know. Trump won, and so now they're all changed?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, now they're all changed. Don't have to worry about woke Rotten Tomatoes anymore.
SPEAKER 05 :
What happened?
SPEAKER 11 :
I don't know. I really don't. Honestly, I can't go that high. For quality, I'm going to give it three stars. It was bordering on three and a half.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
Almost three. You know what?
SPEAKER 05 :
That's not bad.
SPEAKER 11 :
It's a kid's film. It's a Christmas film. I'm going to be nice to the season. Three and a half. Rotten Tomatoes was. Yeah, they were nice. Very nice.
SPEAKER 1 :
90%.
SPEAKER 11 :
That's four and a half. No, I'm not going that high.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
I'll go three and a half. Political, three. Didn't say a thing. Moral, religious. I'm going to go four. Okay. Very strong.
SPEAKER 05 :
So all in all, not a bad movie.
SPEAKER 11 :
Not a bad little Christmas movie for Christians. Okay. And...
SPEAKER 05 :
Honestly, it sounds like for Rotten Tomatoes, maybe anybody else.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. Would this have been now? It was pretty Jesusy. OK, so it's Christmas. Yeah, but I'm just being right.
SPEAKER 04 :
It is Christmas. Right.
SPEAKER 11 :
But I'm talking in terms of do you bring your unsaved friends? OK, is this a movie that non-Christians could really get into? I think for the most part, not really, because it's. You know, not great acting by the kids to really draw you in, although the girl plays Imogene is wonderful.
SPEAKER 05 :
Why the high score on Rotten Tomatoes, then?
SPEAKER 11 :
I got no clue. That's weird, Andy. Look, this is not a 90% quality movie, period. End of story. It's not that good. I don't understand why they gave it 90%. I really don't.
SPEAKER 04 :
Andy, you just hate all Christians.
SPEAKER 1 :
Yeah, that's it.
SPEAKER 04 :
And I'm a born-again Christian. And Rotten Tomatoes doesn't.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. No, I love, you know... Yeah, I thought it was a good movie, not a great movie. Do I recommend going to see it? Yeah, I do. I do. I think it has a really nice message. I think you'll enjoy it. But I will say this. For non-Christians, I will say this. I don't think it was really offensive.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. It's just Jesus. Evidently not, because even IMDB is 7.5 out of 10.
SPEAKER 11 :
Right.
SPEAKER 05 :
So it must not be that bad. Well, they're putting it about where I am. Right. 7.5 out of 10.
SPEAKER 11 :
They're giving it a 3.5. But still, it's not 3 out of 10. No.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 11 :
Which you would expect.
SPEAKER 05 :
No. Yes. Thank you. That's what I was expecting.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, so the best Christmas pageant ever. Is it worth going to? Obviously for the church crowd, yes. For others, at least it's not going to be too painful. Yeah, not bad.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right, good to know. All right, thank you, Andy. You bet. Veteran Windows and Doors is next. 35% off Windows and Doors. And by the way, he'll put some good labor prices into that as well for you. Give him a call today. Find out what Dave can do for you. Find him at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 20 :
Veteran Windows and Doors challenge you to ask every window and door salesperson about the ratings of their windows and doors. Owner Dave Bancroft knows other window and door companies are trained only to sell, not on whether their windows are even engineered for your home. Dave has an app where he can show you the exact door the other company showed you, but Dave will also include the correct efficiency ratings and codes necessary for your home. The other companies' doors often don't meet code, energy-efficient ratings, or give you crucial tax credits on your products. Also, Veterans installation methods are far stricter than other companies. They do more flashing, sealing, and installation than is required to ensure your windows and doors are going to work the way they're supposed to. And Veteran now offers financing. Get 40% off and free installation when working with Veteran windows and doors by going to klzradio.com.

SPEAKER 10 :
Now, back to Rush to Reason, presented by High Five Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling, where every call ends with a high five.
SPEAKER 11 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver's Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John. Are you ready for another movie?
SPEAKER 05 :
This one I know nothing about. You know nothing about this one. Title is it. That's all I know.
SPEAKER 11 :
John, you know, there's a question I've been wanting to ask you for years. Can Captain America and The Rock save Santa Claus? Now, you know, I've never really worked up the bravery to ask you, so now I'm asking you, do you think they can save Santa Claus? Probably. They're studs. Yeah, they're studs. Yeah, why not? All right, well, we're going to find out in Red One.
SPEAKER 1 :
498. 499.
SPEAKER 06 :
500. Let's go, Heavy.
SPEAKER 16 :
Looking strong, Nick.
SPEAKER 04 :
Go on, brush your shoulders off.
SPEAKER 17 :
Who's with Red?
SPEAKER 04 :
Reach!
SPEAKER 17 :
Someone took Nick. We're going to find him. I'm bringing in Jack O'Malley.
SPEAKER 08 :
Probably the best tracker in the world.
SPEAKER 10 :
Santa Claus has been kidnapped. Garcia?
SPEAKER 08 :
What the hell?
SPEAKER 10 :
You can't trust this guy. He's on the list. NL4. You're telling me this clown is a level four naughty lister? A level four naughty lister? You're going to help us find Nick.
SPEAKER 17 :
There's worse ways to go out than trying to save Santa Claus.
SPEAKER 14 :
We got snowmen!
SPEAKER 17 :
That was so disturbing.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right, John, what do you think? Doesn't sound bad. All right. Well, you may not know this, but Santa Claus, John, is real, and he faces constant threats. This is why Red One, that's Santa, he's called Red One, he needs his own secret service protection. Now, the top agent is Callum Drift. He's played by The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, and he heads up Santa's security detail. But he's losing faith, John. He's losing faith because, not because of the children around the world, but the adults. He's looking at adults around the world and he sees so much hypocrisy and anger and meanness. He just doesn't want to do the job anymore. He can't see it anymore. Well, also on board is MORA. Now, that stands for Mythological Oversight and Restoration Authority. And their leader is Zoe. She's played by Lucy Liu, who I've always liked. Now, MORA is a lot like Hellboy's BPRD. They police the supernatural world. I guess that's the best way to look at it. They police the supernatural world because there are real threats out there. Well, enter Jack O'Malley. He's played by Chris Evans, Captain America, right? And he's a hacker with little character, no character at all, who never believed in Santa as a kid. Jack has two talents, disappointing his son and finding missing persons. He's very good at finding missing persons. Remember, he's a brilliant guy online. But Jack makes a mistake, selling some intel about seismic readings at the North Pole. And this leads to Santa getting kidnapped by the Nordic witch, Gryla. Or Gryla. I think it's Gryla. It's G-R-Y-L-A. So I'm going to say Gryla. And she's played by Kiernan Shipka. She's quite good. So Jack is brought in to work with Drift. And we have a buddy comedy, John. What do you think? Doesn't sound bad.
SPEAKER 05 :
Those two got to work together. Good guys, yeah.
SPEAKER 11 :
Right. They got to work together to save Santa, who he now realizes is real. Now, the worst is dealing with... Oh, I'm sorry. Finding Santa is tough. All right. So Jack and Drift, they must work together through a labyrinth of challenges. And the worst of those is dealing with Santa's evil adopted brother, Krampus. You've heard of Krampus, right? Evil Santa. Mm-hmm. And they've got to work with him. And so they've got to go through all these steps and hopefully find their way to Santa because Santa is being hidden somewhere. And they have no idea where. And time is running out because it's the day, right? It's the day before Christmas. They've got to get Santa out there. Well, here's the question. Can they save Santa? And can Callum Drift find his hope in Christmas again? And there you go. What do you think?
SPEAKER 05 :
Sounds like a good story.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. Well, what works in Red One? As always, The Rock and Evans, they demonstrate charisma. Lots of it. Evans, in particular, I liked him in this movie. He brought real personality to his role. He was this true street scum. And he had the accent for it and everything. Kind of a Jersey accent. And he's a lousy dad. I just like that. Lucy Liu, she was solid. Though they could have done more with her than make her look and talk official all the time. It's kind of like, you know, this is Lucy Liu. She can fly higher than this. But she did a good job. J.K. Simmons.
SPEAKER 05 :
Love that guy. Yeah, I do too. Love and hate him. Depends on how he plays it.
SPEAKER 11 :
I know, I know.
SPEAKER 05 :
You know what I mean?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, but he brought a totally different Santa. Muscular. He talked like a guy's guy. You know, he said, gonna have a cookie. He says, it's always cookies. He said, yeah, gotta carb up. You know, because he's got a big night coming up and he burns, I don't know, millions of calories in that one night. And it's just kind of fun. There was a good message. The message is basically we do it all for the children in everyone. Got it. Right? There's a child in everyone. And this is what the rock, I'm just going to say, Callum Drift, he can't see anymore. So get your innocence back. Do what you do for the children and for that child in you. I like that. And the special effects. Now, they were cheesy. Don't get me wrong. They were cheesy. And they were a bit all over the map. But that's okay. That's something you'd expect from this kind of movie. I don't find that to be a bad thing.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
A lot of critics did. Next. What doesn't work in Red 1? Oh, man. What a mistake. The profanity they had. Yeah. S word and things like this. They had a number of moments with profanity put into it. And it was way out of place for this film. Huge mistake. This is a kid's film. This is a film for all the family to go and watch together. And that includes the little ones. All right. And they're making a movie that it didn't seem to know what it wanted to be. Didn't want to be this little kid's movie or didn't want to be this grownups movie. Whoa, I was, you know, I'm not even saying, gee, the profanity really offended me. No, I'm an adult. I'm getting, I see two movies a week. Obviously I'm up to this, but it was way out of place. And I just know they're going to hurt their sales because of it. Made no sense. Next. The humor, it could have been funnier. It really could have.
SPEAKER 05 :
Look, you got some... You got some great guys that can make it funny.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes! You've got three actors, in my opinion, right? You got The Rock, you got Evans. Yeah. Yeah, and of course you've got J.K. Simmons. Look, these are funny people. And it was funny at times. It really was. But it could have gone higher. They could have done better, definitely. Having two separate agencies, Santa's Secret Service and Mora, it was confusing. They should have just had one. Just one. All one team working together would have made it easier, especially for the kids to follow. And finally, the Krampus scenes, they took far too long. They really did. They were dragged out. This film should have been cut about 15 minutes at least. It's over two hours.
SPEAKER 05 :
That's too long for a Santa movie. Thank you. Two hours, three minutes. Yeah, that's a half hour too long.
SPEAKER 11 :
I know it's just a hair over, but, John, for a Santa movie, you want it at 145 max, don't you?
SPEAKER 1 :
150.
SPEAKER 05 :
130 really is what you want it.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, you want it at 130, but I'm talking if you're going to stretch it out. I'm talking at the high end.
SPEAKER 05 :
Andy, it's a kid's movie.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, at the high end, you want that at 145, 150 max, and that's only if it's kicking.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right. Yeah, too long. Okay. So why did they drag it out so long?
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, just the same old thing. The editor was taken in a back room and tied up. Got it. Okay. I guarantee you the editor was not allowed to edit. Rotten Tomatoes did not like this movie. They gave it 33%. They thought this was a bomb. And you should have seen some of the reviews. They were tearing into this. They thought it was a complete mess. They felt the CGI was terrible. It was all over the place. At times it was a little cheesy. I will say that. You know what? I'm not going to agree. I'm not going to agree. This is a better movie than that. It's three star.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay. It's not a great movie, but it's a good solid movie. It's an enjoyable watch. I enjoyed watching it. Three stars for this movie. And let me also tell you, that is how... The people who went to it felt people were enjoying the movie. People online were enjoying the movie. And I even saw a number of people in their little, you know, personal reviews basically say the critics are out of their minds. This is not that bad of a movie. And they were right. It's not that bad of a movie. I know it says 33 percent. Folks, this is not a 33 movie. OK, I think it should have been in the low mid 60s. This should have been a pretty good movie. It's a good watch. Next, Political 3. It doesn't say anything. Thank you. More religious, I'm going to say 2 because obviously you've got all the, you know, profanity and a little bit of, let's face it, the violence is a bit much at times for kids. Although for the most part, not. All right. I don't think it was a problem. Do I recommend going to Red 1? Yeah, actually I do. Red 1 is not a bad movie. Red 1 is an enjoyable movie. And I know that's hard. A lot of people right now, we are on edge because of all these Hollywood celebrities wanting to leave the country and hate America and all this. And one of the head ones doing that, of course, is Chris Evans. He's one of the worst. And, you know, a lot of people say he's ruined Captain America for me. And so they look at a movie like this and they're like, you know, it's hard to go watch just because of him.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 11 :
It's a Christmas movie for a guy that we know hates everything about everything we believe in.
SPEAKER 05 :
Including Christmas.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah. You know what, folks? There isn't anything like that in this movie. None. No political preaching. Nothing. Okay? It's just a pretty fun movie.
SPEAKER 05 :
Is that because of The Rock or just because? Because. Well, you know, no, just because, because. Because he tends to steer away from some of that stuff.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, The Rock likes to keep it straight.
SPEAKER 05 :
He knows who the fans are.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
They come from both sides.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, both sides. The Rock doesn't go left. He doesn't go right. Now, in real life, he leans left, but it's only a lean. He doesn't care, man.
SPEAKER 05 :
He's kind of the Tom Cruise of that end of it. Just shut up and make a movie.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, just shut up, make a movie. That's what we're here for.
SPEAKER 05 :
He understands who his market is.
SPEAKER 11 :
Right.
SPEAKER 05 :
By the way, other actors could learn from those two.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, they very much could. But you don't get a feeling watching this, John, like, well, there was a bunch of that content in there, but they had to strip it out of there. And I've told you in a number of movies over the last two years where you could tell it became choppy here and here and here, where they literally were chopping out a lot of the woke stuff because it was killing their bottom line. You don't get any feel of that at all. I don't think it was ever in there. It's just a movie. Now, do I recommend going to Red One? Guys... You know, quit being such a tough critic and have some fun. It's worth watching.
SPEAKER 05 :

SPEAKER 05 :
Rush to Reason, Denver's Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. I meant to mention this during Ready Radio the last hour. If you go to any of my websites over the weekend, They may look a little different or they may be down temporarily. Rest assured, even if you send me an email, it may bounce back. We're doing some server upgrades. It's my server. I own it. It's not something where we're being hacked. The Russians haven't taken over. The Chinese haven't taken over.
SPEAKER 11 :
Are you doing like a Hillary cover-up? Are you bleach-bidding it?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, since Trump won it, I've got to worry about some stuff that's on there, Andy.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, I saw you smashing cell phones in the hallway.
SPEAKER 05 :
I didn't know why. I've got to be careful, so.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
I just haven't done anything for the past several years, so it's that time, and so we're doing some things over the weekend. So if you notice a little bit of interruption here or there, that's why no need to send me a text message or anything along those lines. I know we're doing some things as we speak, and it may be up and down over the weekend just because of that.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
But it's due. It's that maintenance thing that has to get done from time to time. Let's say it that way.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, so what do you want to finish? Oh, we should do question of the day really quick.
SPEAKER 11 :
Do question of the day, then I want to talk about Zegler.
SPEAKER 05 :
That's fine. Yesterday's impossible question, what does the medical acronym S-H-A-A-K-E stand for? It is spontaneous head shake after a... Kinematic event. Kinetic, you mean? Yeah, kinetic event. Not kinetic event. It's K-I-N-E-M-A-T-I-C event. Kinematic event? Kinematic event. So 70% of athletes recall actually making this motion after collisions. So it is something that happens. So there you go. Okay. Today's impossible question. Answer this on our social media Facebook page. If there was a full alien invasion, which state polled as America's best hope for survival?
SPEAKER 11 :
I don't know. I'd say Florida.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, well, there's one answer. I'll answer this on the, again, Rush to Reason Facebook page. So, all right, take it away, Andy.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, Rachel Zegler. Now, she is in the upcoming movie Snow White for Disney. She hates America. She hates America. Yes, she does. And she has for a long time, and she's always been very outspoken and left-wing. Well, you know, big deal. So are a lot of Hollywood icons, right? Now, this is really frustrating because, just so you know, Rachel Zegler is a spectacular talent. She starred in West Side Story by Spielberg. Beautiful, beautiful singing voice.
SPEAKER 05 :
Why be 23 and hate the world this much?
SPEAKER 11 :
Because she's been raised to hate the world. Look, this is what we get to. I always talk about the big four and how they affect public thought, right? Media, academia, that's a huge one. The entertainment industry, and that includes sports entertainment, and big tech. And I think a lot of young people right now have been so programmed by the big four that they just hate America. They think America is causing all the world's ills, and they think all around the world everybody's living these cool, pristine, beautiful lives if only America wouldn't do bad things to them. And, you know, for those who haven't heard, I think a lot of people already have heard. She, after Trump won, she lamented, it says here, a deep, deep sickness in this country. She went on X. Jeez. By the way, never go on X if you're angry. It's just.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, that's a bad thing. Yeah. Doesn't end well.
SPEAKER 11 :
No, it doesn't. And she expressed hope that Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace. And she closed it up with, you know, some profanity at Trump himself. I don't know about you, but I know peace. I feel pretty peaceful, actually.
SPEAKER 05 :
I feel great.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I feel great.
SPEAKER 05 :
She has since apologized, which they probably had a mandate from Disney to do so.
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, that's just it. And her apology was terribly weak.
SPEAKER 05 :
Too late. Too little, too late.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, and nobody's buying it. Absolutely nobody is buying it because people are looking at this saying, look. You're killing your movie because she had already come out and made statements that she didn't like the original story of Snow White.
SPEAKER 04 :
Then this just adds to it. This just adds to it. You are a knucklehead.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, she's this ultra woke, angry, angry, angry person. And, you know, for the most part, we go to the movies and we take the actor out of it. I'll go to a Robert De Niro movie and I will forget what a jerk he is, right?
SPEAKER 05 :
And I'll watch the movie. You blow it off and go.
SPEAKER 11 :
But, you know, you can only do it to a point. You can only do it to a point. And you get to a point where you're just like, you know, I hate this person so much. Or at least they hate me so much.
SPEAKER 04 :
Why bother?
SPEAKER 11 :
I don't want to give a dime to anything that they're in. I want to ask you, John, do you think Rachel Zegler is going to hurt the sales for Snow White? knowing how badly megan kelly is roasting her out there oh yeah yeah i believe she i believe you're right i believe look first of all you know they didn't they wanted um what is it called when you hire people based on their race and ethnic and all this dei dei yeah they wanted dei dwarves so they weren't dwarves at all they first came out and they were big you know multi you know diverse group a big diverse group Well, that, of course, got roasted. Everybody's just like, oh, you're doing DEI on this? Get out of here. Come on, it's dwarves. So then they tried doing, now they've got CGI dwarves. So they went from DEI to CGI dwarves, right? All righty. And this has also really upset a lot of the dwarf community, you could call them, midgets in Hollywood, because they wanted the jobs. These are great. Yeah, these are great paying jobs. Why not? Yeah, I saw one of them who was very upset, and he said, look, these are high-paying, really good jobs that a lot of us wanted. We were looking forward to this movie, and a bunch of us were going to get jobs. And we got X'd out of this, and they're mad.
SPEAKER 05 :
I can't blame them.
SPEAKER 11 :
I'd be mad, too. Right. Then you have her come out making these comments. By the way, they've had to go through reshoots. It's a mess right now. And... It's such a waste because, oh, what a talent she is, John. She's beautiful. Okay. She has a magnificent singing voice. I mean, one of the best. Golly gee, in all of Hollywood. And she's not a bad actress. I really like Rachel Zegler as a talent. She's magnificent. What a waste. Now she comes out and literally attacks over half the country and tells them, I don't want you to ever have peace. Okay, I think a lot of people are going to be saying, okay, I know one way to find peace.
SPEAKER 05 :
Don't go see you.
SPEAKER 11 :
I'm not going to see you.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And most people don't know this. You probably don't either. I actually went to school. I had a good friend of mine for a long time that was a midget. So I know a lot about that community and so on and learned a lot about all of that. When you have a good friend that is one of those, you learn a lot.
SPEAKER 11 :
And how do you think they would have felt, especially if they're in the acting community with 12 jobs taken off the table because of DEI?
SPEAKER 05 :
The guy that I knew would have been ticked. Oh, yeah. Growing up. Because he would, you know, they just want to be treated like everybody else. Yeah, they know they're little. They get it. OK, it's like, yeah, we know this is how we were born and we'll overcome that. And by the way, we're really at the end of the day, no different than you.
SPEAKER 11 :
John, if they were putting out a movie that was about black slaves and what they went through and they cast white people in it because they didn't want to, you know, or CGI it or CGI the black people, you know, That would mean a lot of black actors just lost a lot of jobs.
SPEAKER 05 :
That's just dumb.
SPEAKER 11 :
That's stupid.
SPEAKER 05 :
It's just dumb. I mean, it is what it is. I mean, you know, again, don't want to belabor this, but he knew what some of his difficulties were going to be being little. But on the same token, he also knew how to overcome all of those and just wanted to be treated like everybody else. How hard is that?
SPEAKER 11 :
It isn't.
SPEAKER 05 :
So in this case, they're discriminating against him by making it CGI. Oh, totally. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Anyways, Golden Eagle Financial coming up next. Make your money work for you all the way to and through retirement. Talk to Al Smith today. Golden Eagle Financial. Find him at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 16 :
Al Smith of Golden Eagle Financial believes that retirement planning must be relational, not transactional. You need a retirement advisor who understands what you want out of retirement and Al Smith will help you achieve the retirement of your dreams. In order for Al to do that, he has to get to know you. There are no systematic ways to ensure your dreams come true in retirement. That's why he draws on decades of experience to set you on your path to success. Sure, he'll give you details and charts with analysis and all of the necessary things. But he also knows that you're more than a financial spreadsheet. You're a person with hopes and dreams who has a picture of what you want your retirement to look like. When you're ready to get started creating a strategy that puts you on the right path towards those hopes and dreams. Live and local, back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver's Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Okay, next hour. Movies not about kids. It could be, but movies with kids.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, movies with kids in them.
SPEAKER 05 :
It's a broad genre. Right, and not kid movies. No, not kid movies, but movies with kids. It could be a kid movie with kids in it, but we're not looking for like... the best animated or the best kid movie or whatever, just looking for movies with kids. Richard will not be with us today, so that will enable a lot of you, if you want to call in and actually give us your suggestions, you're more than welcome to do so. 303-477-5600. You can text us as well, 307-282-22. Yeah, and I'd like to hear some people's favorite kid characters. Oh, good idea, Andy.
SPEAKER 11 :
Because there are some real classics.
SPEAKER 05 :
And we will do still NFL picks. It'll be a little bit shorter today because I am not near as astute in that area as what Andy and Richard are. I have my opinions on things, and I do watch some games from time to time. But I let these guys typically handle that. But I'll chime in on some of Andy's picks and kind of give him my thought on things.
SPEAKER 11 :
I wonder what would be some good DEI names for dwarves. I don't know. Grumpy instead of grumpy. Well, grumpy is one.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, it is one, actually. All right, we'll be back. Don't go anywhere. Hour number two is next. Rush to Reason, Denver's Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 12 :
I'm a rich guy.
