Boise State once was the talk of college football. From 2005 to 2013 Boise State was vying for a National Championship every year, yet they never got the opportunity. Both of my parents attended the school, and now my entire family watches every game.
So, this was the biggest game in Boise State’s history as well as for my family and I. This was also the biggest game in UNLV’s history because if they had won, they would go on to get a spot in the College Football Playoff. As Boise prepared for their biggest game of the season versus the UNLV Rebels for the Mountain West Championship, the team and players were driven by a higher power.

Before the start to every press conference, Head Coach Spencer Danielson, praises Jesus. Prior to and after every game the team praises Jesus. This team is powered by God’s son and each player wholeheartedly believes Jesus is guiding them.
Senior defensive end, Ahmed Hassanein, is from Egypt, and he said before Danielson took over, he wasn’t connected with God, but through Danielson’s leadership and mentorship he says he has seen how God has helped him and his teammates.
Danielson became the first interim head coach to win a conference championship last year after beating UNLV 44-20. Danielson and star running back, now Heisman hopeful, Ashton Jeanty expressed after that win that this team is about love and God. And, God’s influence has been a major part of this team believing in each other and themselves.
Danielson believes through God’s word he is making these men better on and off the field. He has prepared these men for life after football. Danielson discussing Senior’s Night said, “if he had to walk out with every senior, he would’ve been crying too much to coach.” He has truly poured his heart and soul into this team and program, and it shows. After any big play you can see Danielson on the sideline throwing up his own fist as if he made the play. Danielson is young, energetic, and shows us what college football is all about. Faith in each other and faith in Jesus Christ.
Check out some of the highlights from the game below, and tune in New Years Day to the Fiesta Bowl to watch them face off against either SMU or Penn State, depending on who wins in Beaver Stadium on December 21st.
