Tanner’s Tumultuous Picks WK16:

tanners-picks-wk-16-horiz-2

Welcome to Week 16

13-3 last week. I've still got it 😎

Now let’s see if we can keep that streak alive this week.  Time will tell.

Broncos @ Chargers (-3): Thurs. 6:15p – My Chargers have now lost three of their last four and I’m starting to get nervous. The Broncos have now taken second place in the AFC West and are a spot or two ahead of the Chargers in the Wild Card standings. Baltimore is also in the mix. This game will either propel my Chargers or propel the Broncos into fighting for that 5th seed.

The Broncos offense was shaky against the Colts, but their defense won them that game, and of course Johnathon Taylor fumbling the ball on the inch yard line. And then, Anthony Richardson turned into Jameis Winston. The Chargers won the first match up by seven at Mile High.

However, that game was still early in the season.

Broncos win 27-23

Texans @ Chiefs (-2.5): Sat. 11:00a– The Chiefs may be going with Carson Wentz. If so, even though the Texans’ offense is a shell of themselves this year, I think they should be able to win at Arrowhead.

Despite the NFL and refs all rigging games for the Chiefs.

Now, they will let the Chiefs lose a game or two so it doesn’t look scripted 😉.

The Texans need to figure out their offense before the playoffs. They were maybe the most exciting team last year. Now, with more experience they should prove it!

Texans win 24-18

Steelers @ Ravens (-6): Sat. 2:30p – This match up will most likely determine the AFC North winner, and who will be the five seed.

The Ravens being a minus six favorite is a little shocking. The Steelers did just get dismantled by the Eagles. The Steelers won the first match up by two, after Baltimore failed their two-point conversion.

Ravens win 27-20

Giants @ Falcons (-10): Sun. 11:00a – The 8th overall pick in the 2024 draft, Michael Penix Jr., will get his first NFL start.

The Giants are tanking for the first overall pick, but have the Raiders to fight off. I am rooting for Penix, and I am appalled by how poor Kirk Cousins has been the last five weeks or so.

All the haters that were shocked the Falcons would even draft a quarterback, now have egg on their face. Cousins has 16 interceptions and two lost fumbles, that won’t cut it for a top earning quarterback.

Falcons win 21-10

Lions (-6.5) @ Bears: Sun. 11:00aDavid Montgomery may be done for the season for the Lions.

They run a two-back system which has worked out very well for them the past two years. Craig Reynolds is the backup, but I doubt they will use him much since Gibbs is still there. The Bears need a new offensive line and the Lions will get after Caleb Williams.

Lions win 27-17

Browns @ Bengals (-7.5): Sun. 11:00a– The Browns will turn to Dorian Thomas-Robinson after Jameis Winston threw three interceptions last week.

The Bengals are still very strong offensively, and abysmal on defense.

Bengals win 31-21

Titans @ Colts (-3.5): Sun. 11:00a – The Titans will sit Will Levis for Mason Rudolph. The Titans are a joke, I think firing Mike Vrabel was a bad decision.

Those teams he had were never that good and he took them to a number one seed in the 2021 season. Anthony Richardson looked awful against the Broncos, and honestly the Colts should have won that game. Johnathon Taylor fumbled after a long run at the inch yard line. And then, Richardson threw a pick six and eventually another pick to total three for the day. YIKES!

Colts win 23-17

Rams (-3) @ Jets: Sun. 11:00a – The Rams are one of the hottest teams in the league, and need to keep winning to hold off the Seahawks and secure the NFC West.

The Jets looked better in their last game even though they were playing the Jags.

Rams win 31-27

Eagles (-3.5) @ Commanders: Sun. 11:00a – This is a big divisional match up. The Eagles are up three games on the Commanders, but the Eagles are still vying for the top NFC seed. The Commanders barely beat the Saints, and if the Saints converted that two-point conversion the Commies would have lost.

The Eagles had a big-time win against the Steelers.

Eagles win 27-20

Cardinals (-4.5) @ Panthers: Sun. 11:00a – The Cardinals still have a show at winning the NFC West, but they are two games out of a Wild Card spot.

They had the lead in the division at 6-4 at one point. And, the Panthers are just trying to build a solid rhythm with Bryce Young to take them into next year.

Cardinals win 28-17

Vikings (-3) @ Seahawks: Sun. 2:05p – This a big game for both teams. The Vikings have to keep winning in order to compete with the Lions for the division title. The Vikes play the Lions the last game of the season, so if both teams win out, the Vikings can snatch the division.

The Seahawks are battling the Rams for the NFC West, but are also fighting for a Wild Card spot, whereas the Vikings already clinched a playoff spot. If Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson weren’t so elite Sam Darnold would be right up there in the MVP discussion.

From being the 2nd overall pick, to a bust, to a backup essentially, he has been unbelievable. Maybe if you get good weapons and a solid defense for a quarterback they will excel?

Vikings win 27-21

Decisive! ⬆️

Patriots @ Bills (-14): Sun. 2:25p – This game might be 40 to 10. The Bills offense looks better every week.

If they run the ball well, they are destined to win. Josh Allen has too many options to throw too, and if he feels the pressure he sneaks out for an easy five yards at least.

I love this Bills’ team, maybe because they have a few of my favorite players. I like the direction the Patriots are heading. If they can be more consistent to end the year, and carry that into the 2025 season, they may be decent next year.

Bills win 38-17

Jaguars @ Raiders EVEN ODDS: Sun. 2:25p – The Raiders’ 4th quarter was impressive against Falcons, yet they didn’t convert either of the half hail-mary’s they tried to end the game. Desmond Ridder was great in the 4th of that game. The Jags have Mac Jones under center, and he has looked better than he did in New England. Brian Thomas Jr. has been a beast and helpful for Jones.

Jags win 23-17

49ers @ Dolphins (-1.5): Sun 2:25p – This game doesn’t really matter, but both teams had Super Bowl aspirations to start the year. The 49ers have had so much turmoil this year, and the Dolphins may have been a playoff team if Tua didn’t get hurt.

49ers win 27-24

Buccaneers (-4) @ Cowboys: Sun. 6:20p – The Buccaneers are rolling. They are on a four-game win streak, and won’t stop until they win the division. The Falcons are only one game behind, but they have a new quarterback and hold the tiebreaker with two wins over the Bucs. The Cowboys were 3-5 with Dak, but 3-3 with Cooper Rush hmmm…. They pay Dak all this money, and they still can’t win a playoff game.

Honestly, he was better when he was making fourth round draft money. The Cowboys are just playing for pride and have no chance at the playoffs.

Bucs win 34-21

Saints @ Packers (-13.5): Mon 6:15 – The Saints are playing alright despite the many injuries and turmoil. What a strange season for them. The Packers still technically have a chance to win the division, but that would mean the Lions and Vikings start dropping games. The Packers are two touchdowns’ favorites, and being in the Lambeau chill may cause the humidity New Orleans boys to quit early and often.

Packers win 27-17

Bye Weeks: No Bye weeks for the rest of the year! Overall Record: 144-72
