(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump’s first week in office has seen US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal partner agencies arrest more than 3,500 undocumented migrants, including dozens of members of the notoriously criminal Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang.

Having campaigned on the promise to unleash an unprecedented crackdown on illegal immigration, Trump declared a national emergency on the US-Mexico border immediately upon coming to power on January 20, and signed a series of executive orders to stem what he calls the “invasion of our country” by undocumented migrants.

“[Trump’s] administration quickly closed off access to the CBP One app and asylum protections at the US border; sent more active-duty troops to help with border barriers and removal flights; opened the door for immigration authorities to arrest immigrants in schools, churches and hospitals; and cleared the way for authorities to begin removing more than a million migrants who were legally admitted to the US under the Biden administration,” NPR said in a report about the actions taken.

Meanwhile, ICE rounded up an increasing number of migrants, arresting a record 1,179 on Monday, January 27, Axios reports.

“US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with federal partners, including the FBI, ATF, DEA, CBP, and the US Marshals Service, began conducting enhanced targeted operations today in Chicago,” ICE stated in a website post on Sunday. “[ICE aims to] enforce US immigration law and preserve public safety and national security by keeping potentially dangerous criminal aliens out of our communities,” the agency said.
