Here's my situation. I've got a 2014 Focus ST. Okay. And you know what? It's been a wonderful car for me. I mean, I've got about 60, almost 64,000 miles in the car. You know, I'm looking at the body, probably 25, 30... door door what do you call them just just chips you know they're on the body nothing major okay now i'm looking to sell the car it's been a wonderful car for me but it's time to move on i inherited another car that was unexpected and um you know what is it worth it to me i mean let me tell you what i've done to this car yes she has an upgraded turbo She's running around 350 horsepower. I didn't go major on the tune, okay? But I improved everything on the horsepower side and the fuel side. And I also did a limited slip differential on the front end. So I'm into this car for another $10,000. I'm not going to get it back. I get that, okay? Here's my question. Is it worth it to me to have you guys fix the front end and eliminate all of the front end blemishes before I sell the car? Because my next question is going to be to your guys up in Boulder. You know what? I don't want to deal with the bull crap about selling the car.

So I'm asking for your advice. I mean, I imagine it's going to cost a fair penny to fix up the front end. I mean, you know, 20, 30 dings, you know, minor dings and make it perfect. I've dumped another 10 grand into the front differential and the turbo. I mean, the car will run with an RS. How's that? It will. And it's a great car. It's never been wrecked. What do I do?

Well, and Josh, this is more up your alley on value. I don't know that, you know, not to take anything away from Roy and Dietzen fixing it, but I don't know at the end of the day if you're making any more money fixing it, Roy. Or Ray, I mean.

Yeah, that's a hard one to know because since it's been modified, you've got to find the right person. And what does that person want? Do they want to modify it more or do they want the car built the way it is? And that's always the thing. If it was stock, we know. If it was stock, I'd say go ahead and fix it because it's worth more. But usually the person who's going to want this is either going to want to modify it more and they might want to – Put a new front end or do something on it anyway, so who cares? Because they have different spoilers for these cars. I was just looking at one yesterday. So that's the hard part on that is what – there's a buyer for it, but it's not the kid who just needs a car, a Focus to go to school in. This is somebody who wants the ST version and – And I'm with Josh on that one, Ray.

They may very well be somebody that wants to go ahead and just change the front end out anyways. And at that point, what you're doing, you won't need to do anyways.

Right. Or they want to wrap the whole car. Change color, right. Change color because yours is yellow and they want it blue. Right. Whatever the case. Yours is gray and they want it yellow.

Right. Okay. Well, you know what? Here's what we have. We've got a car with 63, almost 64,000 miles. Now, I just recently, well, not recently, in the summertime, all right, I left the house at like 6 in the morning to drive to Sterling, and I didn't use the air conditioning, and it got like 33 miles a gallon. On the way home, when it was much hotter... It got 28 miles a gallon. I mean, so it runs great. You know, and I'll provide the tune that you need, and like I said, I will... Get it emissioned first.

And my shout-out goes to NAPAB. I had a battery in my Lexus, and I called you months ago about this Lexus where the battery, I had the key in the cabin, you know, and the battery went dead because the machine, you know, the computer's talking, whatever.

So anyway, I went to get an emission test up here in Loveland, and I get in line, wait for two and a half hours, get up to get the emission test, get out, and go in the little waiting room to come get me so your car won't start. Oh, brother, well, it's a dead battery. So anyway, I go to my mechanic. He checks out the charging system, everything like that. It's fine. The alternator's putting it out really good, you know. He says, but your battery's only at 430 cold crank. He said, it's supposed to be 750. So he says, but, you know, it's a Napa. And I said, yeah, I know. I got it there. So I drive the Napa up here in Loveland. These guys are great. They said, okay, we'll put a new battery in, and they did. No charge. And I was really happy. Good. My second shout-out goes to Geno's Auto down in Loveland. Oh, yeah. I got an old nine Hyundai. It's getting long in the tooth like I am. But anyway, I go down there on Thursday for some business stuff. My wife's in the car, and it's making this hellacious noise as we're going down. So anyway, she goes over to Geno's because Steve and John there, we know them, use them forever. And by the way, those guys are tremendous. They did a bang-up job in the sense that my wife, Sherry, walks in there, tells them the problem. John immediately gets on it. They're busy, busy, busy, like they're about three weeks out because they're a good shop. But John puts it up on the high rack. looks at it, discovers some serious issues with the car. So anyway, by the time it's all said and done, they reward us with the peace of mind that we deserve because they are a quality shop.

Hi there. I was wondering, and it kind of relates to what the last caller just said, I was wondering about doing seat covers because I've had this seat reupholstered once on my 2019 RAV4. It looks like it's going to tear again, and I'm to the point now where I really don't want to mess with it. So I heard your gentleman there that you have there today say he doesn't do that, but if he has a shop to recommend, I see it on the Internet all the time, you can buy seat covers. But I'm not sure it's something I want to tackle myself.
SPEAKER 08 :
I've done that. So on my old 04 Dodge, my Ram truck, it needed an interior redo just because of its age and so on. And I wanted to change it up and do something that was a little tougher than the velour material, the cloth that was in there before. And I did. I actually bought one of the full kits, Steve, and did front seats, back seats, and so on. And keep in mind, I mean, I'm very technically inclined, and I've been in this industry my entire life, and pulling seats in and out and all that, not a big deal. I will tell you, I'm not an upholsterer, so that... Kind of gets into a whole different realm, and I did own an upholstery shop at one point in time, so I've got a little bit of familiarity with all of that. Now, I will say that with the proper tools and setup and so on, can you buy an interior kit and do it yourself? Yes, most anybody can, but it is not for the faint of heart. I will tell you that right now. Your fingers will be sore. Your back will be sore. You do need a little bit of a special equipment at times to get some things done. Having some steam equipment around to even get some material to fit a little better is needed at times. And I will tell you that unless somebody wants to do all of that, just have it done.

Right, and that's what I want, and that's why I was hoping maybe your guests just said stuff they know people or something like that.
SPEAKER 08 :
They do, and the other thing, too, and I know this is what Roy can help you with also, is depending upon what you're wanting to do down the road with the car, there are things that upholstery shops can even do to upgrade upholstery. what's there now to where you're fixing this now for the second time we'll do it differently the next time put a piece of heavier naga hide or leather or something in there to where you're not doing this again you'll have to do the matching stuff on the other seat to make sure everything coincides but that can be done very easily well like i said i'm

I'm going to worry less about what it looks like and more about having something in there that's very durable.

So to respond to Stuart talking about roundabouts, The Colorado Supreme Court had a ruling on this in 2023. They said that using your turn signal in the roundabout can be a harmful thing because it can cause confusion to other drivers.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Only a politician would say that, of course. Sorry.
SPEAKER 12 :
I don't know. I guess I'm probably the most guilty because I don't ever use turn signals in roundabouts.
SPEAKER 08 :
I mean, typically, I mean, I do, I guess just because I have it. I've done it forever. That's what I've gotten used to. Now, I did know this. This is something I'm glad you brought this up there. It was a law passed as well that if a large truck enters the roundabout, no matter where they enter it, they always have the right-of-way, period.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, that was the other big thing. All large vehicles all have the right of way.
SPEAKER 08 :
If you've got a large, I don't know, semi-truck type vehicle and above, it takes a right of way no matter what.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yep, unless there's a fire truck or a train.
SPEAKER 08 :

My biggest pet peeve while driving is that people do not know what the SMV sign on equipment means.
SPEAKER 08 :
Slow moving vehicle.

Yeah, but they also don't know the law behind it, and they don't teach you in driver's ed what that means. According to the Colorado law, when you see a slow-moving vehicle sign, you are supposed to slow down to that vehicle's speed, and then when it is safe to pass, you can pass. But you are not ever supposed to just go right by them at 80 miles an hour without...
SPEAKER 08 :
That is correct, and a lot of very bad accidents happen from folks going around on the left. In that scenario you just described, Soren, and then all of a sudden that slow-moving vehicle, which has the right-of-way, starts to turn left, and then there's a big problem, of course.
SPEAKER 12 :
My two other pet peeves are when two drivers are going the same speed, and they're both in two different lanes.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, jeez. Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
And then when... You're stopped when you're going to turn left, and somebody is always bound to go around you on the shoulder.
SPEAKER 08 :
True. You bring up something else, which... Isn't – how do I want to say this? That is typically not legal to do because you're not supposed to drive on the shoulder. So unless there's a dedicated lane to go around that person, by the letter of the law, you're not supposed to go around them on the right.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah. Well, what happens is there will be a place where there's no turn lane, and they'll be turning off onto a side road, turning left, and somebody's going to go turn – and go around them on the right, and I've seen a couple of big accidents happen that way. Somebody's not expecting that idiot to go around on the right.
SPEAKER 08 :
That's right. You're correct.
SPEAKER 12 :
So, those are my driving pet peeves.

All right, man. Appreciate you very much. Have a great rest of your day. Somebody asked me a moment ago, too, and I talked about this two weeks ago. Do I think with Trump now being, you know, in as president and what he's doing with some of the three letter agencies, will it be OK to delete a diesel moving forward? Absolutely not. No, not only on the federal level, but on the state level. I'll tell you. I'll tell you right now on Colorado law. and our emissions program and so on, they are specifically looking for individuals, shops, installers, whatever. They are looking for that right now as we speak. So, yeah, no, in Colorado, I don't care who's president, if you think you're going to get by deleting a truck and being a shop that does so, you can either plan on paying fines or going to jail or both.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yep, both.
SPEAKER 08 :
Because in a lot of cases, it's both, right, Josh? Yeah, it is right. It is happening in Colorado as we speak. There is a shop owner right now serving time because of what I just said. And it is happening. They've even said that. They have openly said this. We are going to make an example of you.

They've come out and said that.

They have, and they've gone after a lot of businesses.

Absolutely.

Not just slightly punished, but put them out of business.

You are not going to get by with that. So, no, Trump is not going to have any effect on that that I know of at all. In fact, again, here in Colorado, it's going to ramp up, if anything. So, Eric, you're next.

Hey, John, regarding the large vehicle and around commercial vehicles, if you're in a tractor trailer type vehicle, you have the right of way in a roundabout. But here's the thing to it that I'm aware of. Only four agencies in the state of Colorado will actively enforce that law. And one of them is not Colorado State Patrol.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
But the town of Hudson or the village of Hudson or whatever you want to call it. Whatever you want to call it, yeah. So, yeah, they've got like three officers. They bill actively and aggressively because they have so much truck traffic. And they've got two roundabouts there in town. And they aggressively enforce it. Because I go through there on Highway 52 all the time. and yeah they um i had a lady i'm in the roundabout coming through and she just come zip it on through the middle of the roundabout and hudson officer was sitting there and he just watched her drive right through cut me off i had you know i hit the brakes at the air horn and before she even passed him sitting in the middle of it he had his lights on and his foot on the brake ready to go after her wow i would love to have been part of that conversation And, yeah, they don't mess around. Larimer County will occasionally enforce it on the roundabouts up there by Crossroads, you know, up there by the Larimer County Fairgrounds. They will occasionally enforce it. Grand Junction does enforce it. Grand Junction slash Mesa County, they do enforce it. The weird one, though, is they've got a couple of roundabouts in Glenwood Springs and neither... Neither the Sheriff's Department, State Patrol, or Glenwood Springs cops care. I actually had a Glenwood Springs cop cut under me in the roundabout one day when I hit the horn. He looked at me, and I had a co-worker who was right behind me in another truck. And I hit the horn because I had the right-of-way, and he took the right-of-way from me. And he just kind of looked at me, and we came around the corner and parked. And the officer drove past, turned around, came back, and wanted to know what my problem was. And I said, I have the right of way in that roundabout, not you. Right. And his answer was? He says, I think you're wrong. And I said, no. No, that's a new law. I said, it's a new law. And this was just in the last year. I said, it's a new law. It's only been in place on the books like two years.
SPEAKER 08 :
And really quick, Eric, I'm assuming, and you can probably fill in on this, but I'm assuming they came up with that because when you guys are – In the roundabout, you need more room to maneuver around than a typical car does. Therefore, you need the right-of-way altogether, meaning somebody can't cut you off because you need all that room to maneuver around the roundabout, right?
SPEAKER 11 :
Well, yes. And also, actually, Larimer County put that law in place at the county level probably 10, 12 years ago because of those roundabouts up there. Because Walmart's distribution center is right there on Crossroads.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, makes sense.
SPEAKER 11 :
So there's... several hundred trucks a day going through that, and they had a lot of accidents.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, that makes sense. I mean, to me, I was always an easy one. It's like, okay, you're bigger than I am. I'll stay here. I'm good.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, pretty much. Larimer County started that, and like I said, probably 15 years ago, Larimer County did that. And then, yeah, two years ago, three years ago, the state followed suit.
SPEAKER 08 :
Good to know. I didn't know that. Good to know. Okay. Good stuff. No, appreciate it. No, Eric, thanks. Thanks for the explanation. I appreciate that. And I, yeah, for those of you listening on the roundabout thing, I don't know if I've ever talked about this much, but yeah, the large trucks, you get in a roundabout, and if they're in it, they've got the right of way, period, no matter what, no matter when they got in it, no matter where they're turning. where they're turning in, turning out. They've got the right-of-way period because, as I said, they're going to, in a lot of cases, use up both lanes. If it's a double roundabout, especially, be really careful and don't dart in front of them because, as Eric was just saying, you may end up with a ticket when it's all said and done. So, again, for those of you listening where you've either bought a car, thinking about buying a car, you're buying a new used car, you want to do some things different to it than what you've seen done in the past. Now, one thing I should mention, because we didn't talk about this last time Roy and Dietze were on, be careful of the amount of tint you're putting on the side windows and make sure you're doing what is required by law because there are now multiple cities across the front range that are testing side windows with their little meter, and if you are exceeding the darkness of those side windows, you're going to get a ticket and be told to take it off. And it's happening as we speak. So not all of them, but there are some front-range cities that are specifically targeting. So if you've got super dark side windows, you're liable to get pulled over, and they'll get their little meter out, and all they do is roll the window down a little bit. They put the meter on it. It'll tell you what the percentage is, and if you're not within state limits, you're going to take it off and get a ticket to boot.
SPEAKER 23 :
Yeah, and taking it off can be a pain.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, and it's costly because if you want something put back on, you're now paying to remove and put back on again. So point being, you can do whatever you want to. I get that. You can go as dark as you want to, but just realize that if you end up with a ticket over that, you're paying to remove it and put something else back on. And I have seen some officers... I've seen this. They will literally hand you a razor blade and say, get to town. That's true. Here you go. Have fun because you're not driving around with this. You need to take it off or we're going to impound the car, one of the two. Now, where are they coming from and why do they do that? It's for their safety as well. If they can't see what's going on inside of the vehicle, it's too dark. And you're liable to get pulled over.
SPEAKER 23 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 08 :
And that's why they're doing it, because it's for their safety as well. But again, just make sure that whatever you do, you're doing it the right way. The one thing that I've learned from Roy and Dietze, which I did not know before meeting them, there is a huge difference in the quality of film you're putting on your windows when it comes to the tinting.
SPEAKER 23 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 08 :
Like it is with the vinyl wrap and the PPF as well.
SPEAKER 23 :
Yes, just like anything. Just like now I learned about the dealers.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, there you go. Yes.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, I was going to say there's levels, I mean, on window film. I mean, you've got the cheap stuff, I mean, that you're going to find on Walmart. Okay. You know what I mean? But even in the good brands, they have levels. They have a good, better, best, right?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Just like oil filters that we were talking about earlier.
SPEAKER 09 :
And even the lower level, I mean, it's a good film. It's a good film. Still better than you're going to buy yourself at Walmart, right? But not top-of-the-line film. Exactly. Yeah. And then you get the next levels with ceramic window film.
SPEAKER 08 :
So dumb question. What makes one good versus another? In other words, you say you've got good, better, best. You know, does it have to do with the durability? Does it have to do with being able to clean it after it's on? I mean...
SPEAKER 23 :
It's more about the benefits that you get more than anything. So this is talking about like a good brand, not your Amazon window tint.
SPEAKER 21 :
Right.
SPEAKER 23 :
So, for example, Expel, they have three different lines. They have the carbon. They have the XR, which is a ceramic tint, and then they have the XR Plus, which is also a ceramic tint, but the benefits are slightly different.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. So it's not so much how it cleans and looks and all that. It's what you're getting in the tint itself.
SPEAKER 23 :
Yes. So the lowest one is just a carbon film, so you're not going to get any of the heat rejection.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 23 :
And then as you start going up, you start getting the heat rejection and all that fun stuff.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Makes sense. So it is a lot like oil filters, where they all look the same on the outside, but they're not.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. But they're not the same.
SPEAKER 08 :
They're very different on the inside. So it's the same way when it comes to fill.

Yes.

Okay. Is the PPF the same way?
SPEAKER 23 :
Yes.

Yeah, the PPF is the same way. And talking about good brands, again, even 3M, Expel, whatever, Lumar, they have different levels. I mean, the lower level You don't get the benefits of the premium, which is the top coat or the scratch, the self-healing, stuff like that. So if it gets a little nick or chip or something, it self-heals? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, like a little scratch here and there when you're washing your vehicle, I mean, it self-heals. But on the lower level, you don't get that stuff. You get more protection on the rock chip impact. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, here's a question. What can't you PPF?
SPEAKER 23 :
What? Can't you PPF? Yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
Because, I mean, you can do the outside of a laptop. You can do glass. You can do paint. You can do pretty much anything, right?
SPEAKER 09 :
I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
I mean, you can do a lot of things.
SPEAKER 09 :
You can clear brow. You can PPF a lot of things. We just put it that way. You know what I mean? You can... PPF this table. You know what I mean? Right. I just put a piece of granite in our office. Right. And now I'm thinking about putting PPF on that.
SPEAKER 08 :
To protect it.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, to protect that.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. What about, because I know we've talked about this in the past, stainless steel appliances where you want that to have. Yeah, you can do that. You can, yeah.
SPEAKER 23 :
So now you got to keep in mind that it's not rated for that. So it may get damaged and it may not be covered by the warrantee.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Okay. Good to know. Okay. All right.
SPEAKER 23 :
Going back to what we were talking about before about the different levels. So that's also going to depend on what you want. So during the break before, we were talking about putting PPF on top of vinyl. And I mentioned that you should do it the other way around. You should put the PPF and then the vinyl. So the highest level of PPF from Expel, for example, has a ceramic... top coat to it so you can't put vinyl on top of that because it's just gonna fall off gotcha so you would do a lower grade which doesn't have that ceramic top so that you can put the vinyl on top okay and it's not just falling off okay ceramic coating what's the limits there can you ceramic coat pretty much anything yeah yeah yeah that yeah you literally just think about what you want to ceramic coat and coat it yeah but basically yeah i mean ceramic coatings they're becoming i mean
SPEAKER 09 :
Very popular. They have a lot of use, I mean, in everything. But that depends also on the brand that you're using. The brand that we use, I mean, you have ceramic coating for interior, for leather, for fabric, for bricks, concrete. True. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, that's true. Good point.
SPEAKER 23 :
My father-in-law just did a wooden table that they put ceramic on.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh. Okay. All right. So really, no limit. If you think of something that you want to protect, you can do it. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
Basically, yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 23 :
Now, one thing that I do want to mention on vehicles, and it was just brought to my attention by a customer last night, was the maintenance. So most shops will tell you it has a five-year warranty and you're kind of just good to go. But not really because you have to maintain that coat.
SPEAKER 08 :
Absolutely. Yeah, that's one thing I've learned from you guys as well. And this I learned from a listener as well because you guys would never, ever advertise this. Roy and I talked about this even before he ever came on air. You will see some folks that advertise doing ceramic coatings and it will help you against hail damage. No, it will not. Nope. It is strictly a coating for the paint. It's doing nothing to strengthen the metal of the car itself. And if enough of a hail stone hits that metal, it's going to dent it no matter what, period. I don't care what you've done to coat it. Now, the PPF might help you in some cases because it is adding a layer of protection and even some sponginess, if you would. It's almost like giving a little trampoline effect to the top of the paint, if you would. So you're kind of getting that out of the PPF. But no, ceramic coating is not going to do anything to help against hail, period. Period. If you see somebody advertising... that their ceramic coating is going to protect against hail run because they're lying it is it is a false statement it can't i mean common sense there's nothing you're going to put on top of paint that strengthens the metal it's like the old slick 50. nothing impregnates metal oil does not impregnate metal does it josh does not and if you take and the way i've always proved that back when the slick slick 50 thing was such a big deal take any piece of metal Coat it with whatever kind of oil you want, other than like wheel bearing grease, but coat it with any kind of oil you want. Go leave it outside in the rain, and I'm not talking even the salt and all that, but just leave it out in the rain for a little while, and tell me how quickly it rusts. Because it will.
SPEAKER 06 :
It will.
SPEAKER 08 :
I don't care how much oil you put on that, because oil will not impregnate that metal, period, no matter what anybody tells you, it will still rust. Now, there's cosmoline and things like that they used to use back in the day to ship metal in cars and so on to keep the rust down and so on. And even then, you'd sometimes get just a little speck of rust that started, and it would get underneath the cosmoline and all of that, and you'd still have problems. So, yeah, there is no such thing as oil impregnating metal. It doesn't do it.
SPEAKER 1 :
Mm-hmm. No.
SPEAKER 08 :
No different than ceramic coating does not strengthen steel.
SPEAKER 09 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 08 :
It can't. It can't. And that was a big thing for Roy, which, by the way, shows you Roy's integrity because when we first came on air, Roy was thinking about coming on air with us. He's like, hey, I want to make sure that we all are clear on this. Ceramic coating will do nothing to protect against hail because there are shops around that do ceramic coating that will tell you that it does. It's a lie. It can't. Folks, if you think about it, it physically can't. There's no way that it can. You're not changing the metallurgy at all when you put ceramic coating on. It's simply to protect the paint. It's all we're doing.
SPEAKER 09 :
Maybe PPF a little bit.
SPEAKER 08 :
But does that... Yeah, and I mean... You can't guarantee that... Yeah, depending upon the size of the hailstone... Yeah, exactly, yeah.
SPEAKER 23 :
Yeah, like, it'll minimize it, but it won't stop it.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, there you go. Thank you. It's like, you know, think of a ball-peen hammer, and going up to your paint, and even if you put masking tape all over it where it wouldn't scratch it, because hail doesn't typically scratch, I mean, it might to where you could see it with a magnifying glass or something, but it's not scratching it the way you would think. So let's say you took a ball-peen hammer and coated it really good the paint surface of the car up, and you just start tapping the car. Well, the harder you tap, the higher up you get the ball-peen hammer, eventually something's going to have a ding in it. And I don't care how you coat it, you're still going to have a ding. That's what hail is doing. And the larger the hail... And the denser it is, the more chance of it denting the vehicle when it's all set. Now, along all those lines, Roy and Deaton and ProTech, they can PDR, paintless dent, remove that dent if something like that were to happen.
