(Worthy News) – In a substantial ramp-up of U.S. military presence in the Middle East, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered an additional aircraft carrier to the Red Sea next month, according to a U.S. official. This rare move is intended to strengthen the Navy’s presence, coincides with increased U.S. airstrikes on Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, and aligns with President Donald Trump’s recent ultimatum to Iran’s Supreme Leader.

This will mark the second time in six months that the U.S. will deploy two carrier strike groups in the Middle East.

On Thursday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth signed orders to extend the USS Harry S. Truman’s deployment in the region for at least another month. Originally scheduled to return to Norfolk, Virginia, at the end of March, the Truman has been actively engaged in operations against the Houthis in the Red Sea.

The USS Carl Vinson, operating in the Pacific and conducting exercises with Japanese and South Korean forces near the Yellow Sea and Sea of Japan, is now set to steam toward the Middle East. This redirection will extend its deployment by three months, with the Vinson expected to arrive in the region early next month despite being scheduled to return to its home port in San Diego in three weeks.

The increased military presence in the Middle East serves as an active warning to Iran, whose Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei received a two-month ultimatum from Donald Trump earlier this week.

Next week, senior U.S. and Israeli officials are set to hold high-level talks concerning Iran’s nuclear program in Washington.
