NHL Playoffs: Capitals top Hurricanes to even series; Oilers beat Golden Knights in OT

The Washington Capitals defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 in Game 2 of the second-round Stanley Cup playoffs at Capital One Arena on Thursday night, to even their series 1-1.

Capitals forward Connor McMichael was first to score in the second period, with John Carlson adding a goal in the third period, and Tom Wilson later adding an insurance goal into the empty-net with 59 seconds remaining in the game. Washington’s Logan Thompson made 26 saves to clinch the win.

Game 3 will take place on Saturday in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Edmonton Oilers won in overtime to beat the Vegas Golden Knights 5-4 in Game 2 on Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena, to take a 2-0 series lead.

Forward Leon Draisaitl scored the overtime winner with 4:40 remaining in sudden death, with Vasily Podkolzin, Jake Walman, Darnell Nurse and Evander Kane also scoring for the Oilers, and Viktor Arvidsson and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins adding two assists. Calvin Pickard made 28 saves.

The teams head back to Edmonton for Game 3 on Saturday night at Rogers Place.
