(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump said Wednesday that U.S. control of Greenland is essential to national security and the construction of his proposed “Golden Dome” missile defense system, warning that failure to act would allow Russia or China to gain a strategic foothold in the Arctic.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said, “The United States needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security. It is vital for the Golden Dome that we are building. NATO should be leading the way for us to get it. IF WE DON’T, RUSSIA OR CHINA WILL, AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!”

Trump argued that the alliance’s deterrent power depends overwhelmingly on American military strength. “Militarily, without the vast power of the United States… NATO would not be an effective force or deterrent — not even close,” he wrote, adding that “NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the UNITED STATES.”

The president’s comments come ahead of meetings at the White House between Greenlandic and Danish officials and U.S. leaders, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Greenland and Denmark have publicly rejected annexation, saying existing defense agreements already provide the U.S. wide access to the island.

Trump has long argued that Greenland’s geography makes it indispensable for early warning and interception of ballistic, hypersonic, and cruise missiles—key pillars of the Golden Dome concept. The island hosts Pituffik Space Base, a critical node for missile warning, missile defense, and space surveillance operations as Russian and Chinese activity increases across the Arctic.
