You know, I can throw down, but, you know… It’s not really my thing anymore. It is not mine either.

It never has been for me.

Yeah, I can surprise you, though, and go dig around in the fridge and find some leftovers and kind of create a fantastic meal out of those, something new and inspired. You know, I think, you know, with all the hard work we put in on a regular basis, it’s not something I necessarily look forward to. But when it’s my turn to make it happen, I usually throw something on the grill. I’m a big griller.

Let’s stick with that because I came in another day and bought a suppressor from Q, the trash panda. And then let’s see, what was the other attachment I had to buy? Cherry bomb?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep, muzzle device. Muzzle device. Or brake. Yeah, muzzle brake that goes on that. Yeah, now they’re referred to as muzzle devices because that’s how you attach your silencer unless it’s a direct mount, direct thread type of silencer. Right, right.
SPEAKER 10 :
But, I mean, man, you know, staff really good and, you know, already had an account with Silencer Shop and everything. So super, super easy to go through that. And then just, I think, like two days, it came back to certify and then came in, did that. So now we’re just waiting. And even I think the average wait time, I’ve even read on some deals, could be up to 26 to 28 days. But there’s been a lot of men, I’ve heard of people in business, hours getting approved. I’ve seen people in 48 hours. I’m still waiting here for four or five days. But I mean, man, anything, if you get it within 30 days, dude, that’s way better than the year to 14 months it took me to get other ones.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I would say the majority, you know, are definitely coming in under 30 days. But I’ve been seeing, I get the notifications anytime there’s a status change on a form four that we’re attached to. And I always look at the dates because I’m just want to know what’s going on. And I’ve been seeing two weeks or less in most cases. And in a lot, I’m seeing a week or less. But I would say the average is about two weeks or less. So really great time to get an Amon because you can have it out to the range pretty quickly. It’s a short wait. I mean, a week goes by like the blink of an eye. Yeah. Two weeks is nothing. You know, even 30 days compared to what we were doing before, which is 12 months or 13 months.
SPEAKER 10 :
And I tell you, I mean, I love to shoot no matter what, but it sure makes it super enjoyable shooting.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, it reduces recoil. So, you know, if you have somebody who’s, like, scared of guns because of the recoil or the noise, for that matter, right, because it’s a silencer, so… It doesn’t make it silent, but it makes it hearing safe without hearing protection if you’re outdoors. Indoors, still kind of on the loud side, but if you’re the only one shooting indoors, you can definitely do it. But after maybe 10 shots, you’re probably looking for some ear protection. But if you was in a home defense situation or something like that, you’re not worried about that at all, and it’s definitely going to help you out in the long run. if you were to have to experience a terrible experience like that. But yeah, reduces recoil 30 to 40% on average, I think, and some even more, especially with these new like flow through technologies that are going on. Some guys You know, like Kevin from Q, who’s an engineer, not a big fan of the flow through stuff. But, you know, they have cans that are non flow through that are doing just as well as, you know, the competitors. So and they’re a lot less non flow through cans are a lot less expensive. Now, the advantages of like flow through versus not flow through is the gas. You know, when you’re putting a muffler on the end of your gun, the gas has got to go somewhere and it usually comes back down the barrel.

So.
SPEAKER 07 :
Or through the gas system on like a traditional semi-automatic AR-15 or something. So there are some things that kind of come into play. You may have to make some adjustments to your gun to get things to run smoothly. you may have to make some adjustments to the gun to make it less gassy when you shoot the gun. Especially if you’re shooting indoors often, that can be more of an issue. Outdoors, it depends on what direction the wind’s blowing that day. But it is something to take note of, and there are solutions for mitigating that sort of an issue.
SPEAKER 10 :
Sean, Sovereign Armory, your gunsmith, he said, now, Scott, you do need to clean these a little bit more. when you use a suppressor because i had another one i brought in just having them clean oh yeah and he goes these do come apart now for you to clean he was kind of kidding me but seriously you don’t need to keep them clean yeah yeah and if it’s something you’re not comfortable doing bring it to sean no that dude he’ll clean it that’s what i told him i said you know what i’m just going to bring it to you like you go through it real good and make sure everything’s i don’t want to miss something you know put it back together or whatever but uh
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s not, not all cans are user serviceable, you know, and, uh, at that rate, you’re looking at, you know, having to run that thing through, um, you know, a fairly high powered, uh, ultrasonic cleaner, you know, um, and, uh, he’s got one of those on site too. So he can take care of all that for you. Um, you know, and if you’re not taking the can off the gun, often you’re shooting it a lot. Sometimes they can get locked on there too. That’s another thing. So taking it off and making sure you’re cleaned and everything and, Maybe even using like a little bit of anti-seize grease in the threads on your muzzle device if it is not a direct thread. Because, son, they get warm if you shoot them. Yeah, yeah. And that carbon, you know, there’s a lot more carbon because it’s not going out downrange. It’s filtering around inside that silencer and a lot of it’s kicking back down the barrel. And somehow it just finds its way into every nook and cranny, and it’ll work its way into the threading between that interface between the silencer and the muzzle device. So if you’re not taking that off and just at least cleaning that, sometimes the cans will get locked on the gun. And if it is a can you like to take off for transport, you know, that may not become an option if you’re not really paying attention to that. Yeah, right. Yeah.

If you’re just joining us, Ryan Rash is with us. He’s the owner of Bighorn Firearms. And man, we’ve been very privileged to have these guys on board with us here now for a couple of years, I guess. Now, before we came on air, Ryan, you were talking about your training classes. And, man, you had a packed out concealed carry class recently.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, we were filled up last week. The week before was kind of a lighter one, but we’ve been seeing a lot more traffic, people signing up week of the class. So, you know, typically that’s something – That will work out all right, but if you know you don’t have a lot of flexibility, I would look at the class schedule and just pick the class that works the best for you and get signed up for it now. Don’t wait until the week of because we have been seeing the classes filling up. So people are catching wind of the new requirements that are coming in 2025. And that’s July? It will fully – The old requirements will no longer be accepted as of July 1st.
SPEAKER 10 :
But in all honesty, you could start in March, April kicking new things into gear.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. I think most – some people are already teaching the new – class and the new requirements. And once you transition to that, there’s not really going back and offering the old requirements. I anticipate us moving to the new requirements March, April. Reason being is that the state, county, whoever’s approving your application for concealed carry has up to 90 days to approve you. And if they haven’t approved you by the time the new requirements come into play, they could potentially just kick you out of the queue and say, you know what? New requirements are in play. We haven’t gotten to your application. You’re going to have to go back and approve. recertify under the new requirements other advantages of certifying under the current requirements are the current permit is good for five years the new permit is going to be good for two years and the requirements for the new permit are doubled all the way across the board shooting test written test eight hours of eight hour total training time with an instructor those are the kind of the big ones the cost of the class is going to go up because it’s more time is required and Also, it is required for live shooting portion of the of the exam and brains time isn’t free. So that’s going to get, you know, kind of baked into the price of the classes. So class prices are going to go from, you know, one hundred dollars on average to probably two, three hundred bucks easily. Right. You get in now and your permit’s approved before the new requirements go into effect, your permit will be good for five years versus the two years. So people who get their permit under the new requirements are going to be going into a renewal before you are under these old requirements. Also, if you… you have the permit now and it’s good right you get your permit before the new requirements go into place you will only be required to do a renewal under the new requirements you’re not going to have to apply for a new permit under the new requirements so your permit is still valid it expires in five years then you’re just renewing as long as you don’t let your permit lapse right so you at that essentially if you continue to renew your permit on time you’ll never have to take the class under the new requirements, which is eight hours written tests, live fire shooting tests, and all the other things. So it’s the time to do it. If you don’t want to be hassled and if you don’t want to have to renew your permit in two years, just come on in, get signed up, take the class, get your application. And that’s the other thing, too. You know, a lot of people come in, take the class, go, you know, I just want to take the class. Well, if you can afford to go and submit or you think you’re ever going to want to get the concealed carry permit, take the class and get your application in right away. Don’t wait for three months before the new requirements go into effect. Just get in, take the class, and get your application in ASAP. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 10 :
Now, that’s kind of your CCW class. Is that the main thing that you’re just doing right now?
SPEAKER 07 :
We offer that three times, three Saturdays a month, and then we also offer an intro to pistol one Saturday a month. Intro to pistol is kind of like, you know, your quick start guide. You know, get to know your gun, you know, get to understand the basics, learn about gun handling. Um, learn about, you know, basic firearm operations and gun safety. Uh, so, um, that’s a great class. They, they definitely go hand in hand. One’s not required for the other. Um, you know, honestly with where things are at right now, uh, Being that the concealed carry class focuses kind of more into the law and all that stuff, just get in, get that stuff underway, and then come back, take the intro to pistol class. There’s no expiration date on the intro to pistol class. That class is for you, the new gun owner or the gun owner who just hasn’t spent much time hands-on with the guns in a while and just needs to get a refresher. So, you know, no big rush to get that one. It’s a great class. Everybody should take it. You know, next year, once we get these concealed carry things figured out, we’ll see if we can maybe offer some more options for classes and that sort of thing. But these are the two classes, you know, most people are looking for. When it gets into, like, advanced rifle classes and things like that, there is… There’s people that you should be taking those classes with. So if you want recommendations for that, definitely come into the store and talk to the guys, and we can probably point you in the right direction.

The best way to get a class sign up is to call the store?

No, bighornfirearms.com. Click on the training tab, and there’s a class schedule there. Everything’s listed off chronologically by date. It shows you how many spots are available. There’s two different thumbnails for the two different classes. So it should be really clear cut. But just double check before you check out that you’re signing up for the right class. Yeah. And I think that that’s definitely the easiest way to go about it.

Good deal. You know, you do something, we kind of call it a state sales or whatever, and some people may get a misconception of, gosh, how many guns does that have to be? But basically, someone has one gun, they got 50 guns, whatever the case may be, and they’re looking to move those guns. You can help with that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. I mean, I would imagine that this is the time of year where, you know, you’re getting together with family and stuff. And, you know, that that may be a thing that comes up in conversation. Somebody is looking to sell some guns. So, you know, we’re we’re always looking to buy gun collections or consider your collection for a consignment program. If it’s if it’s a good fit for that, you know, it could be one or two or whatever. 20, you know, uh, if it’s 20 guns and you prefer to still bring them into the shop, just shoot me an email, Ryan at bighornfirearms.com or call the store, um, and ask what’s the best way to go about that. Typically during the week, we’re not running classes so we can use our classroom, um, to, uh, you know, spread them out and look at them. Yeah. Look at a big gun collection like that. We’ve actually done that, uh, a lot recently, which was, was nice to, uh, utilize that space during the week when we’re not doing classes for something like that so if you don’t want to load 20 guns in your car and you’re worried about driving around with them or you don’t want to scratch them or it’s just you don’t want to pick them up and put them down several times in a day uh give us a call we can come out and visit you in your home um or in your business or anything like that if you have a place where you’d want to meet uh that’s like a comfortable place that’s mutual you know um we’re we’re open to traveling to come see the guns as well um we’ve traveled as far as uh Tulsa, we’ve traveled down into southwestern Colorado to look at gun collections. So we’ve just got to figure out a time where the weather is going to cooperate, especially this time of year, or when we think it will cooperate.

And get something on the calendar and we’ll come out and see what you got. Pictures are always welcome. You can email me with the pictures. If you got spreadsheets or anything like that, that is always helpful. You know, we can start to really get like kind of an idea. Nothing’s set in stone until we’ve actually got the guns in hand. I mean, I’ve seen a lot of guns that look good in pictures and then you get them. You get them in person, you’re like, wow, that’s the same gun. That’s interesting. So we can’t 100% go off of that unless you have professional photos done of the guns. But it’ll give us a good idea of what you got and if it’s going to be stuff that’s easier to sell or more difficult to sell because there’s just markets for certain things and they’re up and they’re down and there’s much smaller groups of people that are looking for these types of items or those types of items. But we have a lot of experience in this and we’ve had a lot of great success We’re getting pretty close to wrapping up a gun collection that we took on this year in the beginning of the year of over 150 guns. And they were antiques, and a lot of them were, you know, if you’re not in antiques all the time, some of that stuff can be pretty difficult to identify. And some of these guns they only made for, you know, a few years, and they made four different versions of them. So trying to figure out which one had this part and which one had that part, you know, can get pretty complicated. Um, but our guys, uh, Brian and Houston in the back just did a phenomenal job on this collection. And, uh, we’ve, we’ve had a great return for, uh, for our customer, our client and, uh, for the shop on this one. So, um, you can go now to, uh, big horn firearms.com. Right. Um, that takes a little bit of the pressure off us. So we like doing that too. You know, um, you know, the timeline becomes ours, not somebody else’s, you know, when it’s a consignment customer, you know, we want to do, um, the best job we can for them and we want to make it as painless as possible. And we also want to get checks in their mailbox on a monthly basis. So, um, there’s a lot more pressure on that end. Um, So if we have an opportunity to buy a big gun collection, we love an opportunity like that as well. And that is just quick and easy for everybody. We take a look at the stuff. We let you know what it’s worth. We make you an offer. If you don’t like it, you make a counteroffer, and we do a little bit of negotiating.

Kind of like a shark tank.

Yeah. We cut you a check, and we load your stuff up, and we’re out the door, and it’s off your hands.

People have to understand. I mean, hey, are there some guns you might turn the next day? Yeah. Are there some guns that could be there next Christmas? Yeah. I mean, you know, so you’re the one kind of taking the gamble then.

And it’s totally off of their plate.

Yeah. You know, and not everybody… Not everybody wants to really have to, like, dissect that. And so they want to do consignment. And that’s okay. You know, let’s have the consignment conversation and figure out if it’s a good fit for everybody. And we’ll always give that consideration. You know, we were very good. You know, we’re very fortunate at the family and at the shop. And, you know, we’re doing good. How about yourself?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yep, everything went good, bud. So it’s a good time of year, I think, with everything we went through over the last few years. Now to see some changes coming even in our country, hopefully. I think everybody’s got some pretty positive outlooks here. Absolutely. Hey, I do want to touch on that because, of course, there were several deals that were heavily concerning to all of us. For your end, it was the fur ban deal that was going forth, and that was just in Denver, correct?
SPEAKER 03 :
So it’s one of these things, you know, and we’ve made mention of it, and I’m thankful at this point to, you know, be able to speak on it less than what I was worrying about. But this was a ballot box. biology type of situation again where rather than the banning of a type of hunting it was a fur ban that was coming through and at the surface a lot of people thought that it was you know just something involving a fur coat or something you know it’d be be easy to say hey I don’t like fur coats I’ll vote against that but in In the long run, and when you start digging in on it, it even all the way encompassed through the fly fishing industry. So it would have banned the sale of things like an elk hair caddis or a parachute addams along with the materials to tie it. And thankfully, we’re not having to talk about moving the shop, but that’s one thing where, you know, as we’re continuing into the future here, I think sportsmen, whether it be fly fishermen, a pheasant hunter, a big game hunter, or any of all of the above, need to really be banding together to attempt to eliminate these type of things. You know, this is a biologist-driven wildlife management model and has been for 100 years. So we’re advocating certainly for that, but we’re thankful that that did not end up going through.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, absolutely. And you know what? It was nice to see. And I think for the most part, there was quite a few groups that, as you said, didn’t have anything to do with the mountain lion hunting, the Prop 127, really, Pheasants Forever. I know I did a banquet with them, and they raised some money for that. But it was nice to see some of these groups all come together and realize that, man, we’re all in this together. And you know what? If some group comes to attack one of us, we better all get around and come together. Because, hey, we know we won this one.
SPEAKER 03 :
They will be back won’t they absolutely yeah, and this was a like I said a good victory But it’s it’s a lesson in the fact that that no matter what this may come through whether it be Affecting the fly fishing community or the walleye fishing community or big game or any all of the above everything’s intertwined and all of it affects everything and when you start getting traction and in one area, that traction may continue through all of it.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, absolutely. Once again, if you’re just joining us, Austin Parr is with us. And Austin’s been a tremendous help for us. Man, we’ll be starting our 13th year here on Sportsman of Colorado this January. And Austin jumped in with us in the beginning and has just been a great asset for us. And I’m telling you, if you need something in the fishing world, they got it at 2645 South Santa Fe. Austin, give us a little fishing report around.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, so right now we’re in kind of a little bit of a funny time here. This is the last day of boating for the majority of the state. Places like Pueblo Reservoir will continue to allow it throughout the wintertime, but our fall bite will be kind of concluding here. So we’re looking forward to various wintertime activities, certainly ice fishing as well as good tailwater fly fishing. So the ice fishing front, maybe just a touch early still here. There’s certainly some good opportunities at higher elevation, and we’re beginning to see some opportunities at places like Antero Reservoir, Terrial, and up through North Park. So the key right now is shallower and higher elevation. Per usual, ice is never really 100% safe. You’re looking for that 4-inch, good clear ice type of of range, and we’re starting to see that a little bit, but a lot of these bigger bodies of water will still be a little ways off, but this is a good time. When you get out there for that first ice, there’s good bites to be had for big fish. North Park’s one of my favorites up there with the Delaney Buttes reservoirs, as well as Lake John. Those lakes offer very large fish, and you have great opportunities, a good numbers of them, so you’ll be able to, a lot of times I like fishing a more aggressive type reactionary presentation as my main jig. There’s a lot of smaller bait fish actually in those lakes that you don’t see so much. in the South Park lakes, sticklebacks and fathead minnows. So using a two to a three inch gulp style minnow can be very good. And even at Delaney Buttes, where it is gold metal, if the bait is larger than an inch and a half, you are able to fish a scented bait. So I’ll start with that. And then on my secondary rod, I’ll work a dead stick when I’m permitted to fish bait. A lot of times I like something like a rat thinky or a small tungsten jig, tip with a mealworm or a waxworm. But you can also work small Euro nymph style fly jigs on places that you’re unable to fish with those baits or smaller scented lures. But speaking of flies, there’s some really good fly fishing opportunities that will still be around. Looking at some of those temperatures that we saw a couple of nights ago, even down into the 20 below zero type range, you would think that most stuff is getting frozen. But when you have those nicer afternoons, your tailwaters below dams will still continue to produce throughout the entire winter. So one of my favorites is Pueblo tailwater on the Arkansas River below Pueblo Reservoir. You can do quite well doing smaller nymphing applications with betas patterns and midge larvae as well as egg flies and San Juan worms. But you’ll even find some hatches that’ll come off in the middle of the winter where you can get dry fly action on the same small betas and midges. i mean a lot of times the same things will happen throughout the deckers area and then one of my other favorites that i think doesn’t get uh as much pressure is fishing on the big thompson below lake estes you’ll have those same small hatches um and you’re not dealing with as many large fish as you are on the arkansas or the south platte but many times you can have a few less crowds up there so you can have a little bit more solitude but that’s one that uh I definitely like, and we’re mentioning fly fishing, but all of those bodies of water can be productive on a spinning rod with a small inline spinner, little jerkbait like an HD trout, or a little jig like a marabou jig or one of those same small straight tail minnows that we mentioned earlier in regards to the ice fishing.
SPEAKER 10 :
right you know the fly fishing thing is huge here and actually my dentist come in the day and he goes he goes scott he goes next time you talk about this and he listens to the show uh every week but he said how does a guy get started man when you’ve never done it before i mean what’s your what’s your advice there well there’s a couple of ways to to look at it but in my opinion the
SPEAKER 03 :
The greatest way to really get good at fly fishing is hiring a guide. I just guide conventional fishing with the walleyes and the bass. But if you can find yourself someone that is a good solid fly angler and a good guide, that can really just lessen the learning curve. But one thing I like to mention is when you’re booking trips like that, make sure to discuss the fact that you’re a beginner and that you are looking to learn. A lot of times you’ll have guide trips where you’ll have outfitters that are are very focused on just catching fish, and that’s the biggest thing. And maybe that’s a client’s biggest concern, is just catching as many fish as possible. But I have a lot of customers that want to learn about walleye fishing and bass fishing that may not be concerned as much with catching all the fish that given day, but would rather have a good education on all of the different presentations that may be working. So it might not be always the best presentation for that given condition on that given day, But maybe you want to learn how to dry fly fish, how to streamer fish, how to really nip fish and read the water. And being able to discuss that with a guide, I think, is certainly paramount. But also, you can certainly get out there and get after it. There’s plenty of online resources and such. And at the shop, we are more than willing to be able to help with the general outfitting of equipment, but then also discussing locations, techniques, casting instruction, all of the above.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. And you know, you mentioned something that’s just a good, great general rule. If you hire a guide, be honest with them about your abilities, whether it’s your shooting distance with a rifle or archery or fishing, whatever. I mean, hey, everybody has to learn. There’s no shame in that because it’s going to come out in about 90 seconds if you did not tell the truth.
SPEAKER 03 :
Absolutely, and I mean, particularly with fly fishing, I mean, you’ll get into situations where, you know, casting is paramount. When you’re conventional fishing, you can a lot of times get past basic casting. Obviously, you still have to cast out there, but the general act of casting and presenting a lure is quite a bit easier for the basic entry-level type deal, whereas fly fishing, it is everything. I mean, you cannot… operate really well without being able to generally cast and mentioning that to a guide where they’re putting you in a position for success is also important. You may have certain bodies of water that require more finesse accurate presentations and If you’re just learning, that might not be the best type of situation to put yourself in.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. Again, if you’re just joining us, Austin Parr is with us. It’s Discount Fishing Tackle. And, again, you can go to the store and get with Austin and talk about some of his guide trips as well. He books up pretty quick, so you want to get on his calendar. It’s 2645 South Santa Fe. All right, we’ll talk about ice fishing in a minute, and then we’ll get into some things with your sales going on. Again, first time, is your recommendation, hey, you want to do this, go with someone else, an experienced person that’s done this before? Is that probably the best advice again there?
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, that is certainly some advice that will help to provide good success. But I think ice fishing is one of those things that with basic instruction that we can provide at the shop, selecting the right location and having some of the right jigs, You can have a lot of success on your own. There’s good, solid techniques, obviously, but finding the right location to go, I think, is almost more important than anything. If you’re looking to just learn going to a lake that has maybe smaller fish, but they’re more abundant to provide good, positive reinforcement that your technique is working, I think is good. maybe staying away from some of the big trophy lakes that you have to sit there for a number of hours and work through fish that are being very picky, that might not be quite as good. But as we’re getting some ice, places like Georgetown, working through Evergreen Lake, Red Feather Lakes, as well as some of the front-range opportunities when we get ice at St. Brain, obviously we’re a little ways off of that still. But those type of locations, you can have a lot of really good success. And for a generally low entry-level price, you can have really, really good success. Unlike something like walleye fishing or fly fishing where the cost of entry to be really successful is kind of high, a couple hundred bucks can get you a lot of the way toward catching a lot of fish on the ice.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. What do some of the shelters kind of start at, somebody trying to maybe get a few pieces of equipment they need?
SPEAKER 03 :
$160, $170 for the basic level. So, I mean, really not too bad. If you’re on early ice or on the front range, A hand auger can definitely suffice, but there’s also a lot of really nice augers that are hooking up to cordless drills that are quite powerful and engineered in such a way that the drills can handle them quite easily. And for a couple hundred bucks there, you can have yourself a power auger, whereas in years past, an electric or gas auger may have cost $500 or more. so those are definitely options still but um you know the rod selections really nice equipment is a lot less than on the open water so on the high end 100 bucks or so for a rod and reel combo but there’s definitely options for a lot less expensive there and then a basic selection of jigs 30 or 40 bucks so i mean depending upon if you want to shelter or not and how the conditions are on that given day, easily for, like I said, that couple hundred dollar range.
SPEAKER 10 :
And what would you say, you probably got, what, 120 years of fishing experience inside the walls? Dude, I’m telling you, I don’t know of a store, really, that has the in-field, is usually what I call it, we’ll say on-the-water experience like your crew there at Discount Fishing Tackle, man.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, and we really pride ourselves in that because There’s a lot of locations, particularly large chain type of stores, that I hear all the time with feedback from them that’s frustration of people that don’t really know what they’re talking about and may not have the selection. But like I said, I always really try and make it so if someone is in, you know, they’re just learning or whether they’re a seasoned angler that’s wanting to discuss specific things techniques or lures, I’m there. And I’m willing to work with any of that, whether it’s myself or one of my guys. We are maybe not going to that specific location on every day, but all of us have been around a lot throughout the state and fished all different types of ways and can definitely provide some well-educated feedback.
SPEAKER 10 :
All right. Now, once again, your Black Friday kicked off yesterday, but you said you could carry that through the weekend for listeners and all. So tell us what’s happening.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we’re doing a pretty broad, big one this year. Right. All right. Last question real quick. And I appreciate your time. I know it’s busy. Boats. You know, I grew up in Texas. A lot of people have boats here. But I know you have a great connection with Crowley. Maybe people looking for a good boat and don’t have much experience and knowledge. And I know that the team at Crowley is kind of like you guys. They’ve got the experience to help somebody pick out the right boat for their needs. But tell us a little about them.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I mean, I was going to say exactly what you just mentioned, that Crowley reminds me of my store a lot, where there’s guys down there that are a lot of tournament guys. I mean, talking about experience, hundreds of years of experience of boating and fishing down there. And the thing about Crowley, so they are the Lund, Ranger, Triton, and Sylvan Boats dealer. You know, and as far as the Lund front is concerned, they have boats from more of the entry level all the way up through the really high end stuff. So no matter what level of a fisherman you are and no matter what bodies of water you’re looking to fish, whether in state or out, they have options in all different levels of those options down there, as well as the advice to get you into the right rig.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. But again, you want to remind everybody and maybe people that tuned in late, this is it for boating now.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yep. So as far as Chatfield and Cherry Creek, that’s all done here. But Pueblo is one that can fish really well throughout the whole winter. There’s maybe a few days a year that it’s closed when you have a big snowstorm or maybe a touch of ice in the marina area, but that lake is is large enough and positioned far enough south that it does not get very much ice on it, and it remains open to boating throughout the whole season. So there’s a solid population of actually pretty large rainbows that are able to survive the summer in that deeper water that can be very productive, and you also have good opportunities at your walleyes down there on some of your deeper structure, and then your bass species will all load up on some of those same spots as well. So it’s One of the few locations that has the variety of warm water species, really. I mean, there’s all the walleyes. You have your smallmouth, largemouth, and spotted bass. They’ll all set up on those same deep structure points. You have your wipers cruising over the open water. And then, as I mentioned, those trout and various panfish species. So it’s a great spot. And obviously in the winter, you’re not dealing with the recreational type of traffic with the water skiers and tubers and jet skis. So you have a very nice, honestly, very good type of experience down there. And there’s plenty of days in the wintertime that are 50 or 60 degrees in the afternoon, and it makes for a nice day of boating.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. Hey, we’ll get you back on to talk about this, but, boy, show season’s around the corner, and you will be doing some seminars for the Denver International Sportsman’s Expo this year in January, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yep, I’ll be down there on Saturday and Sunday discussing alternative walleye presentations on Saturday and kind of getting away from some of the stuff that this is your bottom bouncer and bait type presentation so we’ll talk about a lot of different artificials to catch a lot of fish and then on sunday we’ll be discussing trout fishing with kids on family day so colorado has has pan fish definitely but in colorado the big stocked fish that i kind of call the gateway species for young anglers are your trout and we’ll discuss how to target those close to home, and as well as some longer-distance opportunities.
