SPEAKER 02 :
Here’s your survival guide for Ready Radio, John Rush. All right, it is Ready Radio, KLZ 560, Friday the 13th. It’s today’s program. If you’re listening to a replay, you know what day it is. Going to talk today, as I said last week, I would. I’m going to talk today as much as I can. And if I run out of time, I’ll continue next week. But I should be able to get all of this in today. And if I get all of this done, I’ve got a few other things we can discuss as well. But like I said last week, I’m going to talk today about some gifts, gift ideas. that you could get that person in your life that you know does some preparedness stuff. I hate the word prepping because I think it just takes a bad connotation for a lot of folks. Some don’t mind it. I personally do because, again, I think it takes on this connotation that you’re some outlandish individual, want to live in a cave person, You know, store all your food and belongings away and so on, and that’s not what we talk about here the majority of the time. As I say all the time, we’re just trying to prepare people to be ready for the what-ifs of life, and lots of things can come along. One of the things I may… Cover today, if I have enough time, which, again, because we’re end of the year and there’s different things happening and so on, is a lot of people go out and buy cars and do things like that over the holiday. So I may even touch on a little bit of that end of things. Again, how are you prepared? when it comes to all of the different things that you go through life with. So I wanted to go through some things, especially because we’re only really a week out. So we’re a little over that, two weekends. Two weekends away from Christmas is probably the best way to say it. Again, if you’re listening to a replay show, you’ll have to do the math on that yourself. But on Friday the 13th, there’s this weekend and next. And then that’s it. We are into Christmas, especially with Christmas being on or since Christmas is on a Wednesday, I should say. It falls a lot different than it normally does. And in turn, we literally have three weeks between Christmas and Thanksgiving. And the way everything falls, it just will be a really busy time of the year, I guess the best way for me to say that. InstaFarm, first thing I’ll start with. Not only are they a great partner of ours, and not only do I have one, I have family members now that also do. And this is a product where, again, you’re not going to live off of InstaFarm. I mean, it’s not going to be something that you’re going to grow your own food through. What it is is the ability to take the microgreens, the really good microgreens, greens and plants that have a lot more nutrition than what you would even buy at the grocery store and the idea is to grow a tray and the tray is about four by four four and a half by four and a half something like that grow a tray of whatever your favorite is broccoli arugula there’s a smoothie blend there’s all sorts of different micro greens and each one has a little different taste Some seem similar, although the nutritional value might be a little different from one to the other, idea being you can. Again, put these into a smoothie, put them on top of an existing salad, put them on top of other dishes that you might do, and they’re great. I have one. Fabulous. No complaints whatsoever. You go to instafarm.com. There’s some specials right now as we go through the holidays where if that’s something that you’re really interested in or want to get a great gift for someone, they are fabulous, and I’ll be the first to testify to it. It works exactly the way they say. It is literally trouble-free, has a container on it where even you put your water in, in that actually waters the different plants and it’s smart enough to know that if there’s an empty slot if there’s an empty tray for example it will not water that area it has sensors and it knows if there’s a tray there or not and on average it takes about a week to grow a tray kind of think of it as about seven seven to ten days roughly but you’ll you’ll have enough there in seven days to to eat now also if you have kids It would be a great thing for them to learn this is how things work outside of even this, so out in the real world, farming and so on. This is on a micro scale, but this is how we grow food. This is where you’re all around the world. Food is grown here in America, South America, et cetera. This is how normal food works, and a lot of kids that live in cities, for example, have never seen that. They don’t know how that part of it works. So anyways, Instafarm, Instafarm.com, a great partner of ours and really enjoy their product. And I’ll keep talking about it. So I’ll go through some other things here when it comes to. What do you get that person? In some cases, these could just be regular gifts for anyone, especially those of you that are always struggling with what do you buy that, you know, especially man, dad, husband, father, whatever the case may be, son in some cases. You know, what do you get them? Because they’re always the hardest to buy for. And yes, we are. I’ll be the first to admit. So these items on here could even get thrown into that category as well. So it doesn’t have to just be for that prepper in your life, but could be somebody that you have a hard time buying for. Now, on top of that, if you have suggestions… Text line, of course, is always open, 307-200-8222, 307-200-8222. You can call in. We’ll put you on air as well today. We’re live on the 13th of December, 303-477-5600. So if there’s something you’ve run across where you just think, hey, this is an item that everybody should have, Tell us what it is and we’ll add it on to the list and producer and can take this list and it’ll be in our our notes. And of course, this this particular broadcast we save and you can relisten to it again and again through the podcast end of things as well. So that’s also there. So. And, you know, funny enough, people do go back and listen to these. I had a message yesterday from somebody that was a part of our programming sponsor, but part of our programming, oh gosh, over two years ago. that sent me a message yesterday and said that they had received a call from somebody that was listening to one of our recorded episodes from two-plus years ago and just said, hey, you always had a great time. They had other things that had come up in their life and couldn’t be a part of what we were doing anymore time-wise. But point being, yes, people go back and re-listen to these on a routine basis, and that was an example yesterday of that actually happening. So, all right, first things first. This probably is true for anyone. This is something I think everybody should have, whether you’re a prepper or not, because there’s lots of ideas and lots of how to’s in these books. And I have one. In fact, I may in 2025 just start taking some pages out of that book and we’ll go through it. I meant to do that this last year. We had so much other stuff to talk about that I didn’t get to it. But I have one of these books and they’re guides to prepping. They make full-bore books that are, oh, not the size of an encyclopedia book, but probably a fourth or a third of that. They’re not hardbound. They’re softbound, but they’re full-color pages and so on. And in most cases, the one that I’ve got, it’ll take a couple of pages and tell you how to do X. You know, how to build a chicken coop, how to make fresh water, how to dig a shallow well, on and on we go. All sorts of different things that you could think of will be in these how-to guides. And the point is, if something were to really happen, grid goes completely down, we have some sort of a cyber attack. Lately, there’s been the drones flying around the East Coast that nobody wants to admit to having, military or otherwise. Reality is, anything could happen. Will it? I have no idea. I don’t have a crystal ball. I just want to be ready no matter what. So the idea being, if everything goes haywire and you have no Internet access any longer, where’s your how-to guides? What do you go to to figure out how to do something? So many of us, even in my world, the automotive world, years and years ago, I still have some of these from cleaning out some of my dad’s stuff. But years and years ago, everything was in a book. Every service manual, owner’s manual, how-to guides, or guides for fixing cars, I should say, wiring diagrams and so on. Everything was in a book. And they were super expensive, by the way, back then. To acquire those books cost money. They didn’t give them out. It didn’t matter whether it was something as simple as a Chilton’s or the OEM manual. And everybody used a book to do so. Well, as time went by, because of convenience, cost, looking things up faster and so on, we became computerized. And things started coming on. At one point in time, they were on, believe it or not, CDs. And then came DVDs. And then everything became online. And here’s where we’re at today. In a lot of cases, even the owner’s manual for your car will be in an app on your phone. It’s not in the glove box anymore. So my point is, since everything has gotten so electronic, if that were to go away, how would you know how to do X, Y, Z? How do you build a rain barrel? What are the steps in doing so? Keep in mind, there’s a lot of folks that are really, really handy and could probably figure most anything out and might be able to even write the book. But they’re the one percenters. Most people need help with how do I properly plant a garden? We talked about that a moment ago with InstaFarm. Some have never planted a garden. They’ve never, never, you know, quote, unquote, toiled the soil. Tilled the soil, I should say. They don’t know how to do that. They don’t even know how far apart to even plant the seeds. How often should they be watered? On and on we go. I mean, these books that I’m talking about have all of that plus much more. How do you do basic repairs on things and how do you build basic things and so on? And remember, too, that if we get to a point where we have a complete, you know, utter grid failure and we’re in that particular predicament, you probably should have some basic hand tools, saws and the like, that don’t require power. even the old-fashioned drills that don’t require power. most likely your power tools will not be functioning. And even if they are, you’ll have to have some sort of a solar charger or something along those lines to even keep the batteries up, and I wouldn’t rely on that. I would have a backup plan, an alternative. Again, these books talk about all those different things, and they make them in a large guide like I have. And one thing I haven’t gotten yet, which I think I will after doing some reading this past week on this particular topic, they make pocket-sized guides as well where you could slip that in your bug-out bag. How do you build a shelter? How do you do this? How do you do that? How do you, for some people that have never killed any kind of animals, wild game and so on, how do you properly clean and skin an animal? Those things are in these books. And not everybody’s been taught that. Again, we live in a world today where a good portion of our world doesn’t know those things. I know you all listening are a little different, but what I’m getting at is these are gift ideas for some of those people in your world, and some of these you might want to give to somebody that has no experience in this end of things whatsoever, but it’d be a good guide for them to have. So pocket guide and the big book, I think both of those would make a nice little gift set and plenty of time to still pick those up in this next week. A knife. Now, this list is long. And you kind of have to know your person that’s going to receive it. this gift as to what do they like although i will tell you as somebody that has a lot of i you can get me anything i don’t care if you give me a knife i’m saving it i’m not i’m not doing anything with it i mean i don’t care big little small whatever i i don’t care so it’s army knife folding knife regular knife you know sheath knife machete i don’t care And whatever it is, I’ll keep it. I’m not doing anything with it. I’m one of those weirdos that probably has, I don’t know, 50 knives or more. And you just sort of over time, because again, if you don’t lose it, and they don’t break that often, if it’s a good knife, they don’t break. So if you don’t lose it, you’ll have it for all of your life. I’ve had some knives for 40 years plus. So that’s one of those items that, by the way, for the person you don’t know what to buy for, that’s kind of a given. It’s like, and I’ll get into it as well, but on the flashlight end of things I talked about last week, it’s one of those items where they’ll never turn it down. You can’t have enough of. you can always have a backup of. And, you know, one of those things where, you know, you can put one in each car and put one in your go bag and put one in your toolbox, put one in your tackle box. You know, again, you just go down the list of all the different places you can have one and each one of them, you know, maybe has its own specific use or you just have generic ones here and there. So knives, that one is easy, and if they don’t have especially a nice folding knife that probably has a serrated edge on one portion with a straight edge on the other to where it’s pretty versatile on what it’s going to do and cut and so on, not only can you use it to survive, cut things and skin and do the things I mentioned a little bit earlier, but even for self-defense, most of those knives would suffice for that. But again, even just a regular pocket knife. Again, I was one of those weird kids in school, Charlie, where from probably the time I was six or seven, had a, which, yes, you could carry to school back then, pocket knife and a watch. I think I’ve had a pocket knife and a watch my whole life. I mean, even way before I was an adult. And, yes, I grew up in a time where you could have a pocket knife on your persons and still go to school. And nobody said a thing about it. It was common. I wasn’t the only kid that way. Most did, by the way. So, side note, and some of you listening grew up in the same time that I did, and that wasn’t a big deal. I know today, if you brought even a penknife to school, your kid would be suspended or expelled. So, I understand times are different. Don’t agree with that, but yes, times are different. So, anyways, knife. Next one, and this one we’ve covered a little bit in the past, and I would think by now a lot of you listening probably have already got this covered. But again, these are for people that you would be buying things for, and they may not have said item. And by the way, most of what I’m going to put on my list today are pretty inexpensive. There’ll be a few more expensive items as I get to the end of our list. But the majority of the items I’m going through right now, you could spend as little or as much as you want. Knife is a great example. You can spend literally $10 on a knife or, in some cases, add a few zeros to it if you want, depending upon how fancy you want it to be. So this next one, though, is pretty inexpensive. They’re not as expensive as you think, and they, in some cases, have all sorts of gadgetry built into them. That’s an emergency radio. Some of them you can wind up, and it charges the battery that way. Some have solar power. Some have built-in battery packs that are also driven by solar power that will also power something else and still have the emergency radio in it. Pick your flavor. There’s a bunch of them. As I was looking this one up and even just typed in emergency radio into a search bar, a ton come up. And again, not that expensive. Not as much as you would think. This is one of those items that has come down in price significantly from what it once was. And some would say, well, if it’s the end of the world and there’s no power, then how is anybody going to be transmitting anything? Well, you’d never know. Some will. Some will even transmit for a while as long as they’ve got the ability to be on air with you know, generation and things like that. And even after that, some people will figure out ways to, you know, battery power up different things. And again, all the different books that I’ve gone through and so on. These are the things that may not be there or they may be there initially. They may go away and they may come back. And having the ability to listen in on that is not a bad idea, especially on the initial sides of things. All right, this next one, and I’ve even had guests on and talk about this one, and this is one where I personally need to shore up a little more because I don’t have enough of. That is the heirloom or forever seeds. Most people don’t know that seeds typically have a shelf life. unless it’s an heirloom or what we call forever seeds. They don’t. Keep them in a nice, cool, dry place. They literally have until they germinate a long, long, long life. And it would be a good idea to get some heirloom slash forever seeds and put those into some sort of a nice airtight container and give that as a gift. Again, not that expensive to do these. And you can find them probably not locally. These are things that you most likely are going to have to order, although there are a few people around. And I’ve interviewed some folks even down in the Elizabeth area and so on. Colorado Greenhouse Builders has access to some heirloom seeds and so on. So you can always find them if need be. But you can order them online. As well. All right. I’ve got a lot more to go through. I’ll do my best to get through all of these today. And if I do and I run through the list, I’ve got a few other things to talk about as well. Again, if you’d like to add to this list or comment on anything, 303-477-5600. You can text me as well, 307-282-22. And don’t forget our website, ready-radio.com. We’ll be right back. Ready Radio, KLZ 560.

All right, we are back. Ready Radio, KLZ 560. Thanks for joining us today, by the way. I do appreciate it very much. Don’t forget, text the line 307-200-8222, and you can call the main number here as well, 303-477-5600. All right, continuing on with our list of things, ideas. to buy that person that either, A, you don’t know what to buy for, or they’re in this world of prepping and they’ve got some starts on it, or maybe they’ve got a lot of start on this. But here’s the reality. I don’t know of a single person that does this that won’t take more. So you’re never going to go wrong buying a person that’s prepping that’s a prepper whatever you want to say that won’t take some of the items that are on the list we’re going to do today period in some cases they’ll just tell you you can’t have enough of these because either they know somebody that needs it that they’ll pass it along to or when it gets to the point where the crap hits the fan you know they’ll have extras and it’ll be barter material and so on so again these are things that nothing on the list Do I feel you could ever have enough of, you know, backing up and going through the things we’ve already been through? There’s not enough of them. So LifeStraws is next. And those are on sale at a lot of times at the big box stores, Costco and the like, for not a lot of money. And what a LifeStraw is, we talk about it from time to time here on the program. John from Cheyenne will call in with it periodically. But LifeStraws are exactly what they say. They’re made for filtering water, and you literally can either fill up a container that would just come out of the stream or wherever, and you put the LifeStraw in it, suck through the straw itself, and it will clean that water as it goes through the straw itself. And every one of them, you know, there’s different variations, but there’s even a brand called LifeStraw. And it’ll tell you right on there how many times you can use it, so on and so forth. Pretty simple. And, again, one of those items that even if somebody has a bunch of, could they add to their collection? Of course, they’re not going to go bad. And some guys that even backpack and do things like that will use these periodically anyway, so getting them some extras isn’t going to hurt anything. So live straws, great gift idea, not that expensive. You can buy them singly, or typically they come in like a three-pack, and again, they just don’t cost that much, and they’re a great gift idea. All right, next. This one’s a little bit different because if you’re going to have one of these, well, as a gift, it doesn’t matter, but if somebody owns one, you may want to protect this a little differently. In fact, this may be one of those things you put in your Faraday cage, bag, whatever, and that’s a solar charger. Now, there’s a wide range here. You can spend as little as $20, get one that will charge a cell phone type device, GPS unit, something along those lines. Typically, they’ll take a full day to recharge. It’s got a built-in battery that charges off the solar panel that’s built onto the charger itself. I have one. I’ve tested it, and that’s exactly how it works. They work very well. You can also charge it manually or through 120 volt if you want. You know, a USB-type connector. It’s not 120. It’s charging it back down to DC. But you get the drift there. You can charge it that way. Now, that’s the smallest. And they go up from there, literally. And it really comes down to how much do you want to spend. There is power packs now that you can carry around that, again, depending upon the size… You could power several different devices for multiple hours, sometimes even well over a day. Some of these you can use to, you know, where people would normally take a generator out to the ballgame and tailgating or, you know, in the RV or whatever. These things are starting to replace generators because they become so much more efficient than they used to be. Pack more of a punch even. And are also chargeable. You’ve got to buy the solar panels, typically extra, although there’s times where, again, the Costco, Sam’s Clubs of the world and so on, even Amazon will have specials whereby you can buy that, you know, lunchbox style. Power pack, make sure I’m using the right terminology here. It’ll come with solar panels built in, you know, as a part of the kit. They’re not built in because you always have to stick the solar panels out somewhere to where, of course, there’s sun and the power pack may not be. In fact, typically you want it out of the sun. If you’re even out in the daylight, you want it out of the sun in the shade so it doesn’t get too hot and put the panels out. So, again, this is one of those items where you can spend as little energy Or as much as you would like, and I am not exaggerating. Some of the higher-powered units that even come with a little dolly and wheels and so on, they can be a couple of grand. Some will even go up higher than that. Some of them are stackable. You can stack them on top of one another. So, again, one of those items. It’s a great gift idea. They make them extremely small, or you can go as large as you would like. Next one. Firestarters. Now, fire starters could be anything from… fireproof, windproof matches to you name it. Forever lighters, and there’s all sorts of names for these things. You can get them where they’re even just the very, very simple where there’s a, you know, I’ve got one, an old one that I’ve had forever that, you know, has the magnesium stick with like a cutoff hacksaw blade, and you scrape that off and make sparks, and pretty soon you’ve got a fire and off you go, and there’s everything in between. So pick your poison. Again, one of those items where even if somebody has several of these, they’ll take more. One of the things, I will say this, in almost every book that I’ve gone through and read, and I’ve been doing this now as far as either reading them or listening to them on Audible for two-plus years now, one of the things… that the majority of the characters in these books eventually run out of is the ability to start a fire quickly. Lighters go out, they lose them, they fall, whatever, and all of a sudden their backpack gets stolen that had all of these things in it. My point is you can’t have enough of these. Kind of one of those items where even that person that might be bugging out, you know, you may want a couple in your pack and a couple to put in your cargo pants pockets so that you’ve always got one with you. You can’t have enough of that is my point. So even if somebody has some of these items, you can get them more, give them as a gift, and they’re going to thank you for it. And by the way, I don’t think there’s any of these that are wrong, right? Joe sent me an article last night whereby you can even build your own fire starter. There’s some people out there that are giving you this idea. I saw it on Facebook the other day. It’s the link that Joe sent me to where you take an old, like, tuna can. And you take really small wood chips that you can either make out of like a larger pencil sharpener and some sticks and take some hardwood or whatever your choice is, and you pack those down into this can and then take hot wax and pour it on top, add some more, pour it on top, and pretty soon you’ve got a nice wax-filled hard container that’s an automatic fire starter. Kindling, I should say. Spark that, light it, off you go. So lots of ideas. You can look that up for yourself. And there’s a lot of them now made in a kit form, very inexpensive. And, again, nothing else. Get them a pack of your windproof, waterproof matches. You’re never going to go wrong buying somebody that end of things. I talked about this one last week a little bit. And, again, flashlight headlamps. John from Cheyenne sent us a nice link on those that will be on the website now. And another one of those items where you can’t have enough of. They get broken. They get lost. You name it. And I would advise, again, on the rechargeable side, you go back to what I talked about earlier with the rechargeable little battery pack, and you have a flashlight that’s rechargeable. That little pack and a rechargeable flashlight you could use for quite some time. It’s also another one of those items in every one of these books that eventually they don’t have. It’s dead. They don’t have batteries any longer. Things have gone long enough to where there’s no more supply. Nobody thought to do what I just said, and they end up with no way to see at night. And I know it sounds funny, but. You go long enough without these things, and eventually you run out, and they’re no longer out there. And I don’t think, by the way, these authors are too far off on that because most people don’t think through this enough and probably don’t have enough supply in the first place. And even if they do, how many of these can you carry with you? But I’ve mentioned this in previous shows, the bartering end of things, having some of these things even to barter with down the road is great. Now, this is one thing I’ve never mentioned before. But I do have some experience with it. I’ve used them at times. In fact, in the racing end of things and so on, in fact, even in, I believe, even my truck right now, I have some of these, and they are the, I don’t know if people, it’s hard for me to describe this, but they call them compressed towels. Have you seen any of these, Charlie, ever? You can literally take a towel that would normally be the size of a large paper towel Not a roll, but just a single sheet paper towel. And I’m not joking you. You can compress it down to the size of a nickel. So instead of having these big packs of things that you’re putting into your backpack and so on, besides the fact they’re all self-contained, waterproof, they’re usually in a little cellophane, and they won’t get wet, so you don’t have any issues of that particular towel being a burden to carry around. You can get packs of these things that literally they stick them into a little container that’s about the size of a nickel. And their cloths are called compressed towels. And they’re thicker than a paper towel. I’m explaining it as a paper towel, but they’re thicker than that and reusable. They’re not like you would have with a terrycloth towel or something along, you know, microfiber towel. They’re not that thick and reusable, but they’re still better than a paper towel and can be used again and again and again. And one of those items, again, in every one of these books I read where they run out of those things, whether it be to help out medically or you’re just trying to keep yourself clean or towel off because you’ve gotten wet or you’re super hot, you name it. Every one of these books I read, that’s one of the things they never have enough of. And these compressed towels aren’t that expensive. Again, another one of those gift ideas where they’re super, super inexpensive. Now, one thing that I didn’t put in here, but it goes along with this compressed towel thing is – Believe it or not, they do the same thing now with T-shirts. You can actually order online, depending upon what size it is, a compressed T-shirt. And my point with that is, also in these books, every single person starts running out of clothing at some point. Gets trashed, dirty, torn, whatever. Whatever. Keep in mind, if something really bad happens and you’re on the run and your life depends on it, you’re not worried about what do you run into or run through, bushes and so on, and the clothing starts to get all torn up and ragged. Well, again, in these books, if they would have even had these in their go bags, some compressed T-shirts, literally they can get down to the size of, I’m trying to think, Charlie, I explained earlier the tuna can size. they’ll compress them down to not much bigger than that. And not exaggerating, they have some way of just machine, sucking all those things, you know, all the air out and everything and compressing them down to the point where literally it’s almost like they put them in a press and they get them down into a very, very small footprint. Not like you would normally have to take a T-shirt, roll it up and then stick it in your bag. Literally, you could put three of these in the place of where you would normally put a regular T-shirt. So that’s another idea for the prepper end of things is the compressed towels. And or a compressed t-shirt. I don’t think they do it with any other clothing other than t-shirts and towels. And really quick, the way the towels work is the minute you get them a little bit wet, they grow and expand. Just a little bit of water and all of a sudden, poof, they blow right up. And they’re actually really, they’re kind of fun just to, you know, kind of play around with and show your kids how they work and so on. It’s amazing how they can get them that small and then just a little bit of water and all of a sudden, poof, they blow up. Now, T-shirts are a little different. Take them out of the can and, you know, you’ve got to kind of shake them out and so on and they’ll expand as well. But the compressed towels, you can even pull them out of the little thing that they’re in. and they’ll take a little water to expand all the way. They’ve got them that far compacted that you need some water to have them actually grow. But they work very, very well. Again, another one of those handy things, I should say, to potentially even carry around in your car, throw them in your go bag, your bug out bag, whatever. They work extremely well on that end of things, mainly because they just don’t take up much space. You know, it’d be great to carry around a roll of paper towels all the time, but that’s just not going to happen. They’re too big and bulky, and you’re not going to be able to do that. This is an answer to that. So next one, and then I’ll take a break right after that. Multi-tool pens. Now, the nice thing about that is you typically always have them with you. I carry one with me all the time. And a multi-tool pen will have everything on it from sometimes a built-in knife. It’ll have the real sharp point where if you need to break glass, it’ll break glass. They’ll have typically a bottle opener of some kind and a flashlight. And they also write. And they can even be used for self-defense because they’re that sturdy of a pen. They’re machine aluminum and so on. And, again, I don’t have a particular brand I’m going to tell you to get. Pick your poison. And, again, we’re talking about gift ideas for Christmas. These are great because anybody can have one. A woman can throw it in her purse. You can have it in your bag, put it in your go bag, whatever. Throw it in the console of the car. Give this one of those items where can you have enough of them? Probably not. I only have one. Literally, I could have four or five more and throw them in some of the vehicles that I’ve got and just always have them there just in case. And they’re great because, again, not only can you use them to write, but they do all of the other things as well, and there’s a built-in flashlight on them also. Now, is it a kind of flashlight where you’re going to, you know, trek all across town? No, they’re not that large. But could it get you by in a pinch if it’s pitch dark and you need a little bit of light to see where you’re going and what’s going on and so on? Absolutely. Absolutely. They’re good enough for that. I mean, keep in mind, they’re running off of the little hearing aid type battery, so they’re not going to last forever, but they do give you enough light to where you could see with it if needed. So multi-tool pens, they call them. And again, they’re sold by… I don’t know, a dozen different manufacturers probably or more, and each one having a little different idiosyncrasy to it. So just pick the one that you like best, and there you go. It would either be a great gift for yourself or a gift idea as we head into Christmas here in the next couple of weeks. So we’ll be right back. Ready-radio.com. This is KLZ 560.

All right, we are back. Ready Radio, KLZ 560 website, ready-radio.com. Going through a list of items you can get that person in your life where either A, you don’t know what to buy them, or B, they are into the prepping end of things, the things that we talk about here on a routine basis. And again, you don’t ever know what to buy them, so I’m giving you a list of things that you could buy. Get them. And again, most of what I’ve put on this list so far have been very inexpensive. I don’t think we’ve had one item here yet that really is super expensive. Everything so far, the book and guide, by the way, might be one of the most expensive items on this list so far, depending upon how fancy you want to get with said item. But in general, most of these are $30, $40 or less. Next one. Talked about this a little bit last week. John from Cheyenne called in. Candles. And by the way, we’re not talking about going to the fancy aroma candles in the store that give you a headache the minute you walk in. Not those. Just regular candles. Wax candles. White candles. Short, tall, long, skinny, whatever. Pick your poison. Doesn’t matter. Again, one of those items that in an end-of-the-world type scenario, power is completely out. You can’t have enough of these. The more, the merrier. So, you know, could you buy somebody a 12-pack of them, and would they be ever thankful for that? Absolutely. And would you spend a lot of money doing so? No, you would not because they’re just not that expensive. They’re really, really inexpensive. So candles. Next one, same thing. This is another one of those where you can’t have enough of. I don’t care if you have a dozen. You’ll take another dozen. The Mylar space blankets. One more item that kind of going back to some of the other things we’ve already talked about that no matter how many of these you have, can you use another one? Sure. Because, again, when things get that bad, you will use them. Even Mylar blankets, by the way, could be used for all sorts of things, whether it’s you’ve gotten stuck in a snowstorm in the car and you want to get some extra warmth and so on. There are so many uses for these that this isn’t even an end of the world thing. So can you have enough of them? No. No. And they’re really inexpensive. I mean, you literally can buy, I think the other day I bought a 24 pack for 30 or 40 bucks. I mean, they’re a buck and a half, two bucks a piece. They’re just not that expensive. So if you want to give somebody a great gift idea, same thing. Now this next one, this one would cost a little bit of money depending upon how you decide to do it. But for some of you that maybe are in this world and you’re thinking, yep, I’ve got somebody that I know would use this and this would be a great gift, a dehydrator. They can make some of their own food that way. And most of them are going to be electric. I know there’s some that aren’t, but for the most part, they’re electric. And again, they come in every shape and size you can think of, from tabletop units to full standalone refrigerator size. Literally, you name it. And everything in between. And again, that’ll depend upon your budget. You know, if you’re looking to do something for, you know, your significant other, either side of the could be male, female, doesn’t matter. But again, a way for them to make some of their own stuff. And this is one of those items where this doesn’t have to be end of the world. You can make your own beef jerky, dried fruit, all sorts of things that you can take and make in a dehydrator. And there’s tons of recipes for it. So, you know, when I was a kid growing up, you know, we didn’t have a dehydrator. My dad had this way of using the oven to do it. And we made our own jerky in the oven. And it worked out great. So, again, a dehydrator, and they’re much easier nowadays and easier to clean in the whole nine yards. So, again, one of those items, this one is a little bit more expensive, but a great gift idea depending upon, you know, you, your family, and so on, and what you’re trying to accomplish. So, again, another great gift idea for folks that you’re trying to figure out what to buy for. Next, but, you know, I don’t want to say last but not least, but next, and some people think, well, if they have one, do they need another? And that’s a really good compass. And I’m not talking the cheesy compasses, but a really good solid compass where it’ll even have the ability to, you know, look at different waypoints and so on and really – you know, solid, well-built, typically protected compass. Now, this is another item where you’ll probably spend a little more money on it than this is not a $3, $4 item. You’re not going to get a good compass for $3 or $4. So a really good, solid compass. And again, this is another one of those items where you can’t have enough of. So you can throw a compass in your glove box of your car. You can put a compass in your go bag. Again, just have one in the house. You name it. You can’t have enough of them. And so many of us now rely on our phones and other devices that have GPS units that have compasses built in that we really don’t think about having an actual compass. readable, needle, analog-type compass. Nobody really thinks about that. So just a side note, one of those items that, again, even if somebody has one, would they take another? They absolutely would. They’re not going to turn that down. So that’s something else to think about as well. So next one. No one thinks about this. In fact, I hadn’t either. Until I read one of the books that, again, as you guys know, I listen to all the time. And this isn’t in every book. This just happened to be in one book that I listened to. And I thought, man, what a great idea. A stopwatch. Now, some of you are thinking, what in the world would you use a stopwatch for? Are you going to time people rolling by? Well, maybe. Lots of uses. For example, a stopwatch, and you’ve got to play with it a little bit on the front side to know what your stride and such is, but a stopwatch will even tell you how far you’ve gone. You start walking, click it, you know what your average length of stride is. In other words, how many steps can you get in, how much distance can you cover in X amount of time. With a stopwatch, you would know almost to the exact point how far have I walked. Or how far is it to such and such? Or you’re in a situation where maybe you’re surveilling something and you’re trying to figure out what the bad guys, because there’ll be plenty of those running around, what are they doing? How often do they show up and what are they doing and so on and so forth? And stopwatches come in very handy for things like that. And again, a mechanical stopwatch. Now, that’s something, by the way, where you may be able to find a mechanical stopwatch Online, eBay, whatever. I mean, back in the day, every coach had a stopwatch. A lot of race car guys had stopwatches. We didn’t have digital things back then. So everybody used something mechanical in this particular way. And I’m guessing that a lot of those have been thrown in drawers over the years. You might even find them at the thrift store. You might find them at garage sales. You might find them, again, online, marketplace, whatever. But as I was listening to the one book that I was reading and the way that that particular character in the book was using the stopwatch, I thought, oh, wow, that is a really, really good idea. in a lot of ways to know exactly where am I at, what am I doing, and so on. So something most people don’t think about. You’re not going to find that, by the way, on most prepper lists. That was something that I learned by listening to some of these books. So some author actually put that idea in my head, but a good stopwatch. Now, to go along with the compass and the stopwatch, again, you should be getting someone that’s in this realm, MAPS. Not digital, actual printed maps. And not necessarily street maps, although they would need those too, but topo-type maps. So we live in Colorado, so in our particular area, having some topo maps of some areas near wherever they live would not be a bad idea to have. And most topo maps are done in sections, so you’ve got to kind of figure out where they are and what sections do you need and so on. But even on top of that, just regular city, state-type maps as to where are roads and so on and how would I get from A to B. If I couldn’t drive there and I had to walk, what’s my best route? And when everything’s down and you can’t pull your phone up and punch into Waze or Google where you’re going, how are you going to get there? They need a map. Okay, I’m going to try to run through the rest of these as quickly as I can. We don’t have a lot of time left. I don’t want to do this next week, so I do want to get through the rest of these. Ammo, I’m going to just kind of leave that what it is. Now, some would say, well, I don’t even know what kind of gun they own. I can tell you one thing. Every person out there that does any kind of prepping at all, the one caliber of ammo they will always take, because they’ll use it themselves and it’s great bartering on down the road, is .22. So any type of .22 rimfire ammo, doesn’t matter what it is, most people that are in that world, if not all, will take the .22 ammo, and it’s pretty inexpensive on a per-box basis. And I don’t care if you give them a box in their stocking, they’ll take it and love it and thank you for it. So it’s as good as gold to them, and down the road it will be. So that’s the kind of ammo that I’m talking about. I wouldn’t get into anything else other than probably that if you’re getting it as a gift. All right, they talk about these CAT Gen 7 tourniquets, which are more of a military-type tourniquet where if something happens and you’re trying to cut off the blood flow and so on and save somebody, that would be another idea to get someone. Not that expensive, but something worth getting. Something very simple and easy, 5-gallon stackable water containers. not buckets, but actual stackable water containers. Again, these are not that expensive. And if you get a good brand where they can add to their cadre of or their inventory of, again, none of those items you can’t have enough of. This one, again, you won’t find on a lot of lists, but I added it, mini binoculars. Now, by the way, mini binoculars can be used for all sorts of things. You might just use them at the local ball game you’re going to, sporting event, concert, whatever. But to have them and be able to see distances… And again, we’re talking about the compass, the map, the waypoints, and so on. Binoculars and the mini ones you’d want because you don’t want to lug around these big, huge binoculars. But little, nice, high-quality mini binoculars, you can’t go wrong. That one’s really easy. This one, I wouldn’t have added to the list, but I did look at a prepper list and somebody threw it on there and I thought, well, I’ll throw it on as well because, you know, and John from Cheyenne talks about it a lot. That’s the, you know, defensive sprays, bear sprays and so on. They make them in little, big, whatever. And that’s the kind of stuff that, you know, you may not want to be lethal or you may not have the ability to even be lethal at that point in time. Depends on where you’re at, what’s happening and so on. But the defensive spray will always at least slow someone down long enough for you to get away. You know, the pepper sprays, bear sprays, whatever. And again, can you have enough of that? Probably not. You know, especially some of you ladies that are out there listening, you know, you think about different situations you may wind up in and so on. That stuff works. It will always slow down an attacker. Very easy to use. Hit the button and go. It’s that simple. So another one of those items you can’t have enough of, and the people that are in this realm that I talk about weekly, it’s another one of those where I don’t care if they have four or five of them already, will they take another one? Absolutely. Lastly, and this one I did steal from somebody online, if they have a dog, would not be a bad idea, and this is for all of you listening, even yourselves, would not be a bad idea to have a dog pack. So maybe you’ve got a little bitty dog and it wouldn’t make any sense, but if you’ve got a mid-sized to a large-sized dog, not a bad idea to have a pack for them because if you’re going to set out, let them carry their own stuff. They’re going to need food and things along those lines, food, water, and so on. Let the dog carry their own stuff so you’re not – and by the way, they might even be able to carry a few other things for you that you’re not – depending upon the size of the dog, but having the pack in the first place is what you would need. Otherwise, good luck. You’re not just going to tie things to them. It doesn’t work that way. So a good dog pack would be another one of those items you might want to get as a gift idea this holiday season for, again, this particular person that we’re talking about. All right, that’s it for today. Ready-radio.com. You can always go to the website, listen to past episodes, and find the list of things we talk about weekly. Ready-radio.com.
