In this episode, Joey Hudson fills in for Mike Gallagher to delve into the tumultuous happenings in Washington. With a government shutdown looming and the GOP divided over debt ceiling policies, there’s much to unpack. Listeners are invited to weigh in on whether the 38 Republican members who resisted recent proposals are fiscal heroes or political troublemakers. Joey also addresses the role of influential figures like Elon Musk in shaping current political narratives.
SPEAKER 07 :
He’s the happy conservative warrior. From the Relief Factor studio, sitting in for Mike today, here’s Joey Hudson.
SPEAKER 03 :
Welcome in to this Friday edition of the Mike Gallagher Show. Mike, on his Christmas vacation, I’ll be with you for a few days over the holidays. Boy, do we have a lot to unpack today. as the last 24, 48 hours. It’s just been chaos in Washington. And it’s kind of hard to understand who we support and who we don’t. Because, you know, when you read the headlines and you read that there’s 38 GOP members of the House who voted against Plan B, Plan C, whatever it is now, and now we’re still staring a government shutdown tonight, you think, well, what’s going on here? Are these Republicans? Are they rhinos? What’s going on? Why would they vote against a bill that apparently President-elect Trump supports? Elon Musk is literally out lobbying, trying to gather votes. But then when you dig a little deeper… And you talk with some of them, and you read about their objections. Someone like Ralph Norman from South Carolina’s 5th District. I live in upstate South Carolina. Ralph Norman has been on my local show many times, and I trust him. He is a fiscal conservative. He was one of the 38. And he’s very clear that he cannot support this bill because of the debt ceiling suspension that they’re asking for. Basically, the proposal is that the debt ceiling would be suspended for the first two years of the Trump administration. Now, all the technicalities, I’m not sure exactly what that means other than if I’m interpreting right and if I’m understanding what Ralph Norman is saying, it’s going to allow the new Trump administration and the GOP to not have to worry about that debt ceiling. And it basically is going to give them a ticket to spend whatever they want to spend, which is not a good thing. Yesterday, as they were debating this second attempt to get this bill through, Representative Chip Roy from Texas, he didn’t mince words. He torched the legislation, and he gave his fellow Republican House members a good talking to, as my mom would say, telling them that They were there to be fiscally responsible with the American taxpayers’ dollars, and he didn’t see how any of them could, in good conscience, support this bill. And cut number two, Chip Roy, in a very animated, very passionate speech, tries to convince his colleagues in the U.S. House why they should not be supporting this.
SPEAKER 10 :
When I ran for Congress in 2018, the debt was $21 trillion. I was just texting with my son back home in Austin. who I haven’t seen in quite a long time because I’m here trying to fight for him. When I got through cancer about 12 years ago, I made my promise to my kids that I would do everything I can to save this country. And what we’re doing right now is to continue to double down on the things that are destroying the republic. We are going to increase the debt ceiling. Not just $4 trillion. That’s false. We have spent $4.7 trillion in additional debt in the last 19 months. We’re going to increase the debt by $5 trillion. That’s what’s going to happen right here by Republicans increasing the debt $5 trillion. And what are you doing in the same bill? $110 billion unpaid for because you never have any ounce of self-respect to go out and campaign saying you’re going to balance the budget and then you come in here and pass $110 billion unpaid for. On top of the $200 billion you did for WEP, you guys won’t agree with that, but the fact of the matter is $330 billion. Congratulations. You’ve added to the debt since you were given the majority again on November 5th. It’s embarrassing. It’s shameful. Yes, I think this bill is better than it was yesterday on certain respects. But to take this bill, to take this bill yesterday and congratulate yourself because it’s shorter in pages but increases the debt by $5 trillion is asinine. And that’s precisely what Republicans are doing. I’m absolutely sickened by a party that campaigns on fiscal responsibility and has the temerity to go forward to the American people and say, you think this is fiscally responsible. It is absolutely ridiculous.
SPEAKER 03 :
Chip Roy has a point, doesn’t he? And this is why it makes it kind of hard. to know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. And maybe they are no good and bad. They just have a difference of opinion of what’s going on. But there’s been a lot of talk about, well, these 38 guys, they’re obstructing what Donald Trump’s trying to do. Are they? Do you want the debt ceiling raised so that basically – There’s an endless supply of money to be spent over the next few years. Do you trust the rest of the Republicans to restrain themselves when it comes to spending tax dollars and not have to worry about that ugly old debt ceiling? I don’t know. By the way, many of you have texted, emailed, you know, who are the 38th? Well, I have a list for you. If you’ll just text VOTE, just text the keyword VOTE to the MyPillow text line, 800-655-6453. 1-800-655-6453. Just text the keyword VOTE, V-O-T-E, VOTE. I’ll send you a link for that list of the 38. And I’d love to get your feedback. Are these guys heroes? Are they troublemakers? Yes. Is it admirable of them to want to stick to their guns and stick to somewhat of a fiscal responsible when it comes to this continuing resolution and this spending? Or are they getting Trump 2-0 off to a bad start? What do you think? Text me on the MyPillow text line, 800-655-6453. Text the keyword VOTE if you’d like to look at a list of the 38 who voted against this. And let’s talk about where we go now. What is a fair compromise so that we can move forward, or do we just let the government shut down tonight? A lot to think about on this Friday edition of the Mike Gallagher Show. I’m Joey Hudson, in for Mike.

SPEAKER 03 :
And also, the… reports that the Wall Street Journal’s article saying that Joe Biden was really not up to being president from day one. They interviewed a number of White House officials, a lot of on the condition that their identities would be anonymous, but saying that Jill Biden and other White House officials have shielded Joe Biden from day one, that he should have never even been in the White House to begin with. We kind of suspected that, but this Wall Street Journal report kind of confirms what we already knew. We’ll cover that plus your phone calls, 800-655-MIKE, 1-800-655-6453. Your comments are welcome on the MyPillow text line as well. Always use promo code MikeG when you go to MyPillow.com to take advantage of the Christmas extravaganza. SPEAKER 11 :
Well, hi, Joey. It’s great to visit with you, even though it’s kind of under challenging circumstances. I’m obviously in an Uber here with a wonderful driver named Daniel taking me to LAX after I kind of popped out to Los Angeles to visit Dennis Prager, our dear friend and colleague who’s in the hospital. And I just wanted to kind of, as I head back to the airport to get back on the plane to go back to Florida and then pick up my Christmas vacation. I know so many people, Joey, have been asking us how Dennis is doing. What’s the condition? How is he? And I just wanted to share some thoughts after visiting with him yesterday, because let me just assure you that. Dennis is exactly as you would expect him to be. Strong, graceful, warm, funny. I walked into the hospital room yesterday and his big smile lit up. His eyes bugged out. He couldn’t believe that big mouth dummy Gallagher from Florida was trekking out to Los Angeles to see him. Sue kept it a secret from him. And so it was a big surprise. You know, there’s no question that this is a very, very, very serious injury, and Dennis has a long road ahead. But to Dennis Prager fans, rest assured that this man is… fully engaged in all that’s going on. He’s watching Fox News and Newsmax. He’s up to date on everything that’s happening in the world. And he has a spirit, Joey, that is unbreakable. It’s just something this guy… Does not disappoint. He’s one of the greatest men I’ve ever met. And he is showing it in the face of this very difficult, challenging injury that he suffered when he had a fall in his home a few weeks ago. And so I just wanted to give everybody that good news. He is getting better every day. He is absolutely improving. He is very aware of all of the prayers that are coming his way worldwide. You know, PragerU has a worldwide impact, Joey, as you know. And whether people are calling and writing from the upstate or California or the Netherlands, everybody’s praying for Dennis Prager. And so it was just a blessing and an honor for me to be able to go to the hospital yesterday and spend some time with him. And gosh, God bless Sue being by his side and his steady stream of friends and And family, his kids, everybody is showering him with love. And, again, he is – I mean, he’s laughing. He’s smiling. He was asking me about the cruise and, you know, the way that we can communicate with him. And he was – you know, because Hugh Hewitt and I covered for him on the Caribbean cruise. I assured him that I carried my weight. I don’t know about Hewitt, but I did my part on the cruise. Okay. And he laughed, of course, and got a big kick out of that. So he just had just it was just a wonderful visit. And again, his spirits are absolutely intact. He has not one ounce of self-pity, Joey. You know, we often think, how would we handle something like this? How would we react to a massive injury like this and be in the hospital? And you know me, I’d be a blubbering baby. And, you know, that’d be it. You know, you just have to light the candles and and call it a day but not for dennis prager this man is strong and tough and uh has resolve and deep faith and he is loved by many so i just wanted to pop on i know you got a lot of breaking news you’re doing a great job of course covering for me on vacation but i wanted to kind of uh Join you from Daniel’s Uber vehicle on the way to LAX on my road back to share that update with my visit with Dennis at the hospital yesterday. And what a Christmas blessing it was for me to get to see him in person before next week.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, well, it’s just we all have to keep praying for sure, praying for full recovery for Dennis and pray for Sue and all of his caregivers. I mean, that’s a tough situation. But if anyone can do it, Dennis Prager can. He is a strong individual.
SPEAKER 11 :
He’s an inspiration, Joey, and that’s why I wanted to pop on with you today to just share with you how inspiring his attitude is right now. He’s incredible. He’s a giant of a man, and you’re right. Every day, like I said, is improvement, so let’s pray for full recovery and healing. Pray for Sue. She was out with a little bit of a she had a little bit of an upper respiratory cold yesterday and didn’t want to come into the hospital room because of that, because she didn’t want to give it to Dennis or any of his caregivers. But I was with Dennis’s good friend, Dennis and Sue’s friend, Terry. And it was just wonderful to get to see him. I frankly, it’s selfish for me because I I wanted to see his face. I wanted to engage with him. I wanted to. talk to him in person and talk with him in person so we got to do that so thanks for letting me give that update to you joey uh and great job for again filling in merry christmas to you and peg and i’m sure we’ll talk over the next few days yeah merry christmas have safe travels back to the east coast and thanks for the update because we all want to hear about our friend dennis prager You bet it, Joey. Thanks so much. Love you. Merry Christmas.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right. Sure thing. Merry Christmas to you. Mike Gallagher giving us an update. He visited with Dennis Prager, who suffered a bad fall just a few weeks ago. Our dear colleague. And, you know, we all continue to pray that Dennis has a full recovery. I can’t imagine. being in that situation. But as I said, if anyone can do it, Dennis Prager can do it. He’s a strong person. So just pray for full recovery. And again, pray for Sue Prager and all those who are surrounding him, taking care of him during these holiday season. So an interesting story out of the Wall Street Journal. kind of confirms some of the things that you and I have suspected about Joe Biden’s ability to serve as president. Now, personally, I suspected these things probably over the last year, two years. But according to The Wall Street Journal, Joe Biden wasn’t capable of serving from day one. I have that report for you. And we’ll be watching whether or not the House takes another vote this morning on this continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown. I’m Joey Hudson, in for Mike Gallagher.
SPEAKER 05 :
Your folks are traveling down to Dixie’s sunny shore From Atlantic to Pacific Gee, the traffic is terrific Oh, there’s no place like home for the holidays
SPEAKER 07 :
He’s the happy conservative warrior. From the Relief Factor studios, sitting in for Mike today, here’s Joey Hudson.
SPEAKER 03 :
Welcome in on this Friday edition of the Mike Gallagher Show. We are waiting to see if the U.S. House will have another vote on the continuing resolution to keep the government open. Of course, the deadline is midnight tonight. The House Republicans faced a setback yesterday. in an effort to avert the government shutdown. In a bit of a surprising defeat, the GOP was not able to pass the spending bill, Plan B, as we know it. Thirty-eight Republicans voted against it, along with the rest of the Democrats. Every Democrat except two voted to oppose it, along with the 38 Republicans. So the question becomes, who are these 38 Republicans? Are they heroes or are they troublemakers? And there’s mixed opinion on that. If you want to know who the 38 are, I posted them for you. Just text the keyword VOTE to 800-655-6453, our MyPillow text line, 800-655-6453. Just text the keyword VOTE, and I’ve got an article up with the 38 listed. There’s some good people on there. And they’re raising some valid questions. It seems to be the sticking point is around suspending the debt ceiling. President Donald Trump is asking that they suspend the debt ceiling for the next two years. And some of the ones or all of the 38 who are fiscal conservatives say they can’t do that. They can’t support suspending the debt ceiling. The bill went down by a vote of 235 to 174. It needs two-thirds majority in order to fast-track it. It also fell short of the 218 votes that would be required under normal rules for just a majority. So let’s talk about the mindset and some of the loudest voices in the room. Representative Chip Roy from Texas said, did mince words as he was talking with his colleagues last night and debating this. He torched the legislation on the House floor, calling out his fellow Republicans for abandoning their fiscal responsibility. Here’s Representative Chip Roy.
SPEAKER 10 :
When I ran for Congress in 2018, the debt was $21 trillion. I was just texting with my son back home in Austin, who I haven’t seen in quite a long time because I’m here trying to fight for him. When I got through cancer about 12 years ago, I made my promise to my kids that I would do everything I can to save this country. And that’s precisely what Republicans are doing. I am absolutely sickened by a party that campaigns on fiscal responsibility and has the temerity to go forward to the American people and say, you think this is fiscally responsible. It is absolutely ridiculous.
SPEAKER 03 :
Democrats, of course, having a field day with Republicans appearing to be divided, and they are on this topic today. At one point, Democrats broke out chanting, hell no, on the House floor, furious with Trump and with Elon Musk, blaming them for blowing up an agreement that had already been reached earlier in the week. Of course they don’t want Donald Trump and Elon Musk meddling in their affairs. They don’t want Elon Musk asking anything, but they better get used to it because I think they’re going to see a lot of Elon Musk, don’t you? Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries didn’t hold back. He accused Republicans of caving to Trump and Musk and hurting everyday Americans. Speaker Mike Johnson also expressed his disappointment after the vote, saying, He said, but let’s be honest. This wasn’t about the Democrats. Now, it’s interesting how both sides are trying to choose their words because the Democrats are blaming Musk and Trump for blowing up a deal they thought they had, and the Republicans are blaming the Democrats because they voted no against something they probably weren’t going to vote for anyway. But you also have to think about the process. And it’s like they never learn. Why are we down to the last few hours? I mean, the government will shut down tonight if they don’t pass something today. This is the Friday before Christmas. On Tuesday, they were given the bill that had gone from 21 pages initially, which was just a clean continuing resolution. It had ballooned to 1,547 pages. They were given that on Tuesday evening to be ready for a vote on Wednesday. Who does that? Who can read 1,547 pages overnight? Who wants to? They’ve got to fine-tune their process. These are tricks like Nancy Pelosi would do. You know, she is famous for saying, well, just vote for it, then we can read it. We can see what’s in it. That’s not how we run our government. You wouldn’t run your business like that. You wouldn’t run your household like that. Why is our government being run like that? And so that’s why I have trouble just really condemning the 38 representatives who voted against this because they did it for the right reasons. Congressman Ralph Norman from the 5th District of South Carolina, I think a lot of Congressman Norman, he’s a smart guy. He was quoted as saying that he just could not continue to support massive spending. And he pointed out, he reminded his colleagues, November the 5th, the American people gave us a mandate. They expect us to lessen government, to cut government spending. And that’s not what they’re doing. By raising the debt ceiling, they’re basically promising or giving themselves the ability to spend even more. So again, I ask, the 38, are they heroes or are they troublemakers for Trump? Love to get your comments. 800-655-6453. You can text me on the MyPillow line. You can call. Teresa will put you in queue. We’ll talk as time permits. Email me directly, joey at joeyhudson.com. SPEAKER 07 :
The Mike Gallagher Show.
SPEAKER 04 :
The biggest concern is our debt. And as a country, it doesn’t matter where you fall on the political divide, this debt is going to crush every single one of us. And to quote Elon, he said something extremely important. Every single payment that the federal government pays out, we need to be checking those payments to see if they’re legitimate. And that’s something that hasn’t been done. I don’t know if it’s ever been done.
SPEAKER 07 :
In the ReliefFactor.com studios, here’s Mike.
SPEAKER 03 :
Joey Hudson in for Mike and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is right. Debt is what we need to focus on. Our country’s debt is going to strangle us if we don’t. And don’t you think it’s interesting how the Democrats are all upset about Elon Musk? In their mind, Hakeem Jeffries claims that Elon Musk just blew up a deal that he already had with Speaker Mike Johnson. Well, look, Elon Musk has as much right to be heard as anybody. He’s an American citizen. He’s a voter. He’s a taxpayer, just like you and I are. So why are the Democrats so upset that Elon Musk is pointing out some of the things that are bad in the bill? I think Representative Thomas Massie from Kentucky, probably has the best idea. And this may be, we may see a portion of his plan as the House comes back in sometime to vote. What Representative Massey is proposing is that they do separate votes. They vote on just the basic continuing resolution. They vote separately on the farm aid. They vote separately on the disaster aid. And they vote separately on the debt ceiling as to whether or not to suspend it for two years, as President Trump is asking. And that’s probably the best way to approach it. Then everybody can be on the record. as to how they feel on each one of those items, rather than lumping it all together. Now, they put it together to try to squeeze votes out of people who may not vote for other parts of the bill. I mean, it’s a political game that they play. But these 38 congressmen who voted against this, they’re doing it for all the right reasons. I don’t think it’s because they’re opposed to Trump. Some people try to paint that narrative that, oh, they’re anti-Trump. No, they’re not anti-Trump. They’re anti-government spending. They’re fiscal conservatives, and they have told their constituents back home that they’re going to cut spending. So how do you explain someone… That’s like telling your wife that you’re going to cut spending, but then you call Visa and ask for an increase in your credit limit. Why would you do that if you’re going to cut spending? And speaking of spending, just this morning… The Biden administration has announced that they’re going to eliminate another $4.28 billion in student loan handouts as they’re leaving the White House. President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris announced that this massive student loan handout, it will affect 54,900 student loan holders. Another $4.28 billion just wiped off the books, forgiven. And this is why we’re in the mess we’re in. 800-655-6453 is how you join the conversation on this free speech Friday. Let’s go back to the phones. Jay is waiting patiently in Spartanburg, South Carolina, just over the road from me. Welcome, Jay. How are you?
SPEAKER 08 :
I’m great. I agree with the last gentleman that called wholeheartedly. I’m a Trump supporter. But we’ve got to hold his feet to the fire. We can’t increase national debt. I am upset seeing on X these hardcore MAGA Trump supporters demonizing these 38 people, 38 congressmen. What they don’t realize is even if those 38 congressmen had voted with them, the continuing resolution still would not pass because it has to pass with a two-thirds majority. It’s not going to pass because the Democrats vote in a block. You’re not going to get, if you’re 60 Democrats… to vote with the Republicans. It’s just not going to happen. So shut the government down. Shut the government down is a wonderful thing. Shut the government down, open it back up in March, and when you open it back up, go back to Trump’s 2019 budget, which was $3.5 trillion, as opposed to the Biden Pelosi budget of $6.7 trillion.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we’ve got to cut. We’ve got to cut somewhere for sure. All right, Jay, let me ask you a question. I see that you live in Spartanburg. Do you live in Representative Ralph Norman’s district?
SPEAKER 08 :
No, actually, I’m working on a house in Spartanburg. I live in District 3.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, okay, okay. Well, so Jeff Duncan.
SPEAKER 08 :
Jeff Duncan, and he voted right. I’m afraid Sherry Biggs may not have the The principles that Duncan has, we’ll see.
SPEAKER 03 :
Mm-hmm. Yep. Yep. Appreciate your call, Jay. Merry Christmas to you. Merry Christmas. Sure thing. 800-655-6453, one line open for you. You know, and a lot of you are texting me, too, and I’m getting this same thing because it is so confusing because you think, well, these 38 are just anti-Trump. They don’t support the president. I think it’s a little more complicated than that because, again, I know some of these men. I know Jeff Duncan. I know Ralph Norman, and I know that you can’t have a better supporter of Donald Trump than Jeff Duncan, for example, and Ralph Norman as well. But they love our country, and they know what it’s going to take to get our country out of this mess. Carl is in Phoenix, Arizona. Welcome to the Mike Gallagher Show, Carl. Hi. How are you doing, Mike? I’m wonderful. This is Joey.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, sorry, Joey. That’s okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
Merry Christmas to you.
SPEAKER 09 :
I’m afraid that, I mean, the American people gave Trump a pretty big mandate.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 09 :
And it doesn’t appear to me that the Republicans are united. If the Republicans aren’t going to be united, then the Democrats are going to come back. And if we can’t, we have to defeat them. And to defeat them, Trump needs all the tools in the toolbox. And if it’s a short term kind of stepping on your principles, so be it. We got to eliminate the Democrats. And that’s the way to do it, is to give Trump the reins as we elected him to do and let him go do it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we’ve got to stick together. And again, this is kind of complicated because people are saying, well, the Republicans are divided. Well, they need to get in a room together. The Republican caucus needs to get in a room and talk about this. You know, one of the complaints that I heard from some of the GOP members was the fact that they weren’t told. You know, Tuesday, late Tuesday night, they got this fourteen hundred and fifty seven page bill and were expected to just fall in line and vote for it on Wednesday. Well, some of these people are going to do that. They want to know what’s in the bill, as they should. That’s what we that’s why we hire them. That’s why we elect them to to watch out. Watch out for us.
SPEAKER 09 :
I agree with that. But the second bill, I think they should have voted it, voted for it.
SPEAKER 03 :
So you’d be okay with the increasing the debt limit?
SPEAKER 09 :
In order to defeat the Democrats in the long run, absolutely.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. Okay, Carl. Merry Christmas to you, Carl. Appreciate your call.
SPEAKER 09 :
Merry Christmas, Joey. Bye.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes. It’s complicated. It shouldn’t be as complicated as this. And, again, one of my previous callers this morning saying, you know, we’ve got to do what’s best for the country. Forget about party. Forget about your personal motivation. Do what’s best for the country, for the American people who sent you there. And to continue to borrow and continue to spend, it’s not going to work. I’m Joey Hudson, in for Mike on Free Speech Friday.
SPEAKER 11 :
There’s no better time than right now to call my friends at PhD Weight Loss and Nutrition to start your journey to a healthier you.
