Yeah. That’s kind of weird. I know it’s not a movie thing, but we don’t always do movies. Every now and then we venture outside the lines.

Well, I feel like after The Monkey, which is a horror comedy, light on the comedy, weird on all the bloody bits, and then, you know, last breath, very tense. We need something to lighten the mood, something to laugh about.

We do. And as you were mentioning at break, which one of you was mentioned? I think it was you, Tanner, that Zelensky or was it Charlie that was mentioning that Zelensky was a standup comic?
SPEAKER 22 :
Yeah, I don’t know how. He could have been a lot funnier today.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, yeah, the moment was too big for him. And honestly, I don’t think anybody really totally shined in this moment, but I think we looked a lot better than he did. You know, this is one of those things where he’s going to go home and just regret how he handled it. It’s kind of like, look, man, you’ve got to cut a deal. Make this happen. You can make this happen and have a big old win-win for everybody, and what did you do? You fumbled at the one.

Yeah, I hope as soon as his plane lands, there’s a bunch of Ukrainians out there protesting.

Do you think on the plane ride back, he’s doing the thing we all do in the shower where you’re replaying a conversation and thinking about all the things you could have said that would have been so much better?

I don’t have to do that because my wife tells me all these things. You know, she actually should call me and in my ear for the next 20 minutes, list out everything I did wrong. And it feels good. It’s a good marriage. It’s 21 years of marriage. That’s why it’s been successful. You know, he’s actually here a couple days, so there’s still a chance.

Are they going to take him to Disneyland or something?

Why is he still here? I don’t know. Well, you know, he’s probably seeing a lot of people. He was beloved by most of the Congress.

Yeah, he probably wanted to check out Denny’s. I don’t know. Look, I don’t think they’ll make a deal while he’s here, but it’s possible. But I do think they’ll make a deal. I think it’ll happen in the next couple weeks. I think they need a cooling down period, and I think they’ll get it. Agreed?

She said, forget it then. And I said, what number are you? Just driving down the street, passed this sign. It said, next rest area, 25 miles. I said, wow, that’s pretty big. People must get really tired around here. I saw this old lady wearing a full-length fur coat. I walked over to her and I said, excuse me, ma’am, what kind of animal is that coat made out of? She said, raccoon. I said, my God, he must have been huge. I got food poisoning today. I don’t know when I’m going to use it.

It’s like very Leslie Nielsen style of literal dry humor. Yes. I kind of like it. I do too.

That’s a pretty good one. We will go with my favorite comedian currently. I think it’s also Tanner’s favorite comedian. I showed this comedian’s Netflix special. It’s on Netflix called Beautiful Dogs to my friends. They absolutely adored it. Couldn’t stop laughing. One of the funniest specials I’ve seen in a while. This is from before he got a Netflix special. This is like one of his earlier pieces of stand-up is the clip that I sent you. And this is Shane Gillis.

That’s how we got Trump, these debates. And the first one is the best one. So it’s a Republican primary, everyone’s up on stage, and they’re all still doing their political. So, like, the first couple guys that talk are like, I’m from Kentucky, and I love education. And the crowd’s like, nice. We didn’t know what was coming. And the next guy’s like, I’m from Georgia, and I love religion. The crowd’s like, pretty good. This is a good one. This is a heated debate. And then it finally got to Trump’s turn to talk, and he was just like, Rand Paul is ugly.

And the whole crowd was like, oh! We didn’t know you could do that in this. You can just do that as your thing?

Shangulous on Kill Tony. Yeah, Kill Tony is this comedy podcast written by Tony Hinchcliffe, and he runs the whole thing. They have one to three comedians on every week, and the guy playing Joe Biden was Adam Ray, and I have a clip for him as well later. But it is… I watch it every week. There’s an episode every week. It’s like two hours, and it is so funny.

It’s a great opportunity to find new comedians, too. Because the podcast itself has had a… a huge number of people who’ve turned out to grow really big after Kill Tony. And it’s a lot of new talent, a lot of young people coming in, doing stand-ups. Some funny people on there, dude. As a matter of fact, I’m going to add to my list by looking up the Kill Tony guests over the past couple of months.

My wife is a psychology major in college, so she’s constantly psychoanalyzing me. When I wanted to fire the pool boy, she said, you feel threatened by young, virile males because you’re getting older and you’re coping with your own mortality. And my argument was, we don’t have a pool. What is Enrique doing here? So we start seeing a marriage counselor and the woman’s given us some very valuable tips. For instance, she said when you first wake up in the morning, the first thing you should say to each other is I love you. And not you again. Good to know. Good to know. I’m kidding, of course. My wife is the best thing that ever happened to me. And I say that because when I met my wife, I only had like two minutes of material.

Was it Delirious? Delirious. He did Delirious and he did Raw. Delirious was actually better, I thought. Raw was – he got more disgusting in Raw, which, you know, that’s what he does. That’s what a lot of them do. You guys, let me ask you this. Does disgusting humor bother you that much? I guess there’s a line that they can cross. But in general, don’t you kind of expect them to cross lines? Isn’t that the entire point of comedy?

Yeah, I mean, I’m not super bothered. But like you said, there’s a line, right? If it gets too indulgent, it’s like, okay, come on, new material. Right, right. If it’s done for the comedic effect and it hits, then sure, why not?
SPEAKER 22 :
Yeah, I agree. I’ve never heard anyone use the word he used in that that many times, but…
SPEAKER 16 :
Do you think this is why, let’s face it, a lot of the better comics these days don’t seem very liberal? No. What I mean is this. It just seems like liberals, for the most part, have killed comedy. It’s hard… look it’s hard to run a 100 yard dash when people put a ton of roadblocks in your way okay it’s hard to be that funny it’s hard to be great at anything when you’re hemmed in on this side this side this side and here’s another minefield that you got to wander through and here’s another verbal minefield and all this politically correct nonsense it just kills the fun And I would say that from the other side as well. There was a time when, quite honestly, it was more the conservative Christian public that was doing this. And they were putting up minefields and this can’t be funny and that can’t be funny and another thing can’t be funny. And then what happens is things like Family Guy and especially South Park come around and they make fun of everybody, including Christians like me. And you know what? It’s hilarious.

Yeah. Liberals tried to turn comedy into American Ninja Warrior where it’s impossible to get through. Yes, exactly. And it’s given all the comedians way more material just because, you know, you see one liberal crying. They’re like, well, I can talk about this on the podcast or whatever. I mean, they just feel their comedic minds.

Yeah, I mean, Eddie Murphy, he was talking about, like, in San Francisco, you know, the gay areas, where the cops, they don’t even have a siren on top. They just have a gay guy on top going, woo, woo, woo. And it’s just, obviously, you’re making fun of people who are gay. Back then, you could do that. Nowadays, that wouldn’t fly, and yet his delivery was spectacular. Then again, Eddie Murphy was also… He did one thing that was scary. It actually frightened me he did it so well. He did an impersonation of Bill Cosby.
SPEAKER 21 :
I don’t think I’ve heard of that.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yes. And he did it for an extended period of time. And he actually was morphing his face, it looked like, into looking more like Bill Cosby. He was so spot on. And it was like you were just listening to Bill Cosby. It was frightening. And then, of course, you see the movies he does, Coming to America and so forth.

Dr. Doolittle. And these movies where he does a million characters. And you can see why. The guy was so gifted. Unbelievable.

I mean, he created one of the best animated characters in Donkey.

Oh, yeah.

I mean, Donkey’s one of the funniest characters ever.

You know, a lot of people only think of him in movies. They don’t understand. He was a stand-up.

Yeah, he was a stand-up for a while. And while his brand of stand-up isn’t super to my taste, there’s one thing that he did. I forget where it was, but I saw the video of it, where he does an impression of Clint Eastwood. And… He sits in front of the microphone.

I saw it.
SPEAKER 21 :
And I think, like, it takes 10 seconds. His face transforms into Clint. It’s the most uncanny thing I’ve ever seen in my life.
SPEAKER 16 :
And he did it for Clint Eastwood. Yeah. Clint was there watching this and having a ball.
SPEAKER 21 :
So impressive. It is very, very cool.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, I saw that. It was very impressive. Okay, Tanner, you’re up.

We’ve mentioned Tony Hinchcliffe, so I’m just going to cross him off now. Let’s go with Bill Burr. He’s pretty big now.

He is pretty big. I didn’t like how he came out against Trump. And, you know, you never like when any popular person comes out against what you believe ideologically or politically or whatever. But it also wasn’t his funniest stuff. Not just because there are times where people will take on conservatism or, you know, my beliefs and be hilarious.

And I’ll be just like, hey, I love, yeah, I hate the message, love the art form. But Bill Burr has a history of being very politically incorrect and being hilarious. And I don’t know, man. There was something off his fastball with that.

His whole spiel about the WNBA versus the NBA is great.

Oh, yes.

He’s great with going after, like, I guess women, different groups of people. But once the politics come up, it’s not as enjoyable.

Similar to Jim Carrey in the sense that I think you recognize them a lot more for their movies as opposed to their stand-up. But Robin Williams was a stand-up for a while. Also, something that super surprised me, I guess I’m used to seeing him in children’s movies for the most part. He was fantastic. pretty raunchy and edgy, especially for the time.

Oh, he was incredibly raunchy. And Robin Williams live at the Met was probably his most well-known one. The only thing I didn’t… Once again, political, I know, but his hatred for Ronald Reagan was unbelievable. His hatred for conservatism was just so deep that… I don’t know the anger of it, but oh my gosh. I personally think for physical comedy combined with just writing comedy, he may be the greatest of all time. Just physical comedy, I’d have to probably go with Jim Carrey.

But… robin williams one of the greats oh my gosh and the amazing amazing thing about robin williams you see a lot of these comedians and they’ll go on the talk shows right right and they’re all good they can they could all have a few good lines and so forth not like robin williams robin williams would go on a talk show you know the tonight show or whatever and just instantly click into gear and be so funny you take over the show He would take over the show. Robin Williams, I think, was probably the greatest stage talent I’ve ever seen in my life. Ever. And with all due respect to Dave Chappelle, who’s a wonderful talent, Eddie Murphy, and Jim Carrey, I think Robin Williams was the best.
