(Worthy News) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law the ratification of a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement with Iran, solidifying long-term military and diplomatic ties between the two allies, according to Russian state media.

Published on Russia’s legal portal on April 21, the long-awaited agreement outlines a broad framework for long-term Russia-Iran cooperation across key sectors—including defense, counterterrorism, energy, finance, and technology. The pact comes as Tehran and Washington move toward a possible nuclear deal.

On April 8, Russia’s State Duma unanimously ratified the treaty, which will remain in force for 20 years and automatically renew for five-year terms thereafter.

The 47-article agreement covers wide-ranging bilateral cooperation, with about one-third focused on military-technical ties and international security.

As part of the agreement, both nations pledged not to offer military support to any third party engaged in active conflict with the other.

Since the Ukraine-Russia war began in 2022, Iran has provided Russia with thousands of Shahed drones and short-range missiles. This support helped Moscow produce its own versions, like the Geran-2, making Iran a key player in Russia’s war effort and changing the military landscape.
