HR2 Rush To Reason April 23, 2025 by John Rush
SPEAKER 16 :
This is Rush to Reason. You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes. With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 09 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did!
SPEAKER 03 :
Get a job, Turk! You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 01 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know, you can’t explain. But you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 08 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 03 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 06 :
And we are back on Rush to Reason. This is not John Rush. This is Richard Rush in for my dad this lovely Wednesday day here. Spring day here, Andy. And Andy Pate is joining me for our 20… Yes, always. Well, not always, but you know. Every year. Every year. Our 2025 NFL draft show. And folks, if you’re tuning in for the first time and you haven’t heard us before, this is our chance for us to be weird nerds about sports and football and the NFL specifically in the draft. That is this massive production, Andy. And we get to just let people into our weird minds for a little bit.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. And you know what’s one of the interesting things? When we give these picks, we’re not giving the picks that we think should be done. We’re giving the picks that we think bad teams and stupid leaders will give. It’s really interesting. There’s a lot of strategy here because, I’ll be honest, look. Look at how Cleveland’s been run. They are not smart people. Look at how the Raiders have been run. They are not smart people. And you can say, well, but they’re brilliant. They know their job. Really? Yeah. Look at what they’ve done to their team. And a lot of these people, and I’m saying look at Carolina. Look at what they’ve done to their team. Look at Jacksonville. Look what they’ve done to their team. You know, when you look at these teams, you’re like, so you’re almost betting on stupidity with some of these picks.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, and Andy, it’s like they talk about there’s like four pillars of an NFL team, right? There’s the owner, the general manager, the coach, and a quarterback. And you could say that your general manager is the front office. You’ve got to have, you know, if you’re only 50%, right, you could have a great owner and a great quarterback. If you’ve got a terrible coach and a terrible general manager, you’re going to be switching those guys out at some point in time. Or you may have a great coach and a great quarterback, but if you’ve got a terrible owner and a terrible front office, it’s not going to work. You’ve got to have kind of three of those. You’ve got to be 75% on that at least. And we’ll talk about, obviously, our two teams. I think you’re 100% correct, Andy. The NFL drafts, and we were saying this before, Sometimes these teams, like any decision makers, right, like humans, we sort of get in our own way. And a lot of times that’s what happens to NFL teams is they tend to overthink things. They overthink life. They overthink the draft, right? They look at a guy and say, ugh. I need a quarterback, which is going to come up with this first pick. Really, should you be taking that guy or should you be taking someone else? And I know that there’s this instant gratification and lots of things going on. I just think that, Andy, I think you’re right in that we’re sort of trying to predict people’s Ineptness, in a way? Ineptitude. Ineptitude, there we go. We’re trying to sort of predict that. And so, folks, bear with us. Our goal, as much as we would love to be perfect, which, Andy, I wonder what the odds would be, right? Because a March Madness bracket, super hard to get perfect, right? We talked about that about a month or so ago. I feel like the NFL draft, if they did the true odds on that, it would be equally as hard because you’re picking – 32 players to be chosen. And there’s going to be trades that mess it up. In specific spots to specific teams. All sorts of crazy. It’s impossible. So, folks, when we do this, our goal, Andy, is to get, number one, as many players that actually go in the first round as. We make 32 picks. There’s 32 players that go in the first round. We’d love to get 24 actual first round players. We’d love to get 24 of those. Now, maybe not to the right team. And if it’s the right team, it’s a bonus. Right. But ultimately, we want to get the right guys in the first round, which I think through the first… With each player, you want to come within a few picks of where they want to go. Yeah, with where they’re going to get drafted. But there’s always surprises, Andy. That’s what makes it fun. So without any further ado, Charlie, you can give us our lovely background music whenever you’re ready. We are going to get started. Okay. And Andy, so the way we’re going to do it, folks, again, for those of you that are new… Normally we have Walt here, so we kind of go every third pick. But, you know, again, those children, I tell you. Actually cares about his family. Exactly. Weird. But what we do is we sort of alternate picks. And this year it’s actually going to work out to where, Andy, you’re going to go one because you’re going to be odd numbers and your Green Bay Packers will fall on that. I’m going to be even numbers and my Denver Broncos will fall into that. So it actually works out perfect this year. So without further ado, Andy, Tennessee Titans, you are the GM. You are on the clock.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay, obviously, if I were the GM, this would be Abdul Carter. That would meet one of their biggest needs, and I would not reach on a quarterback. However, they are going to draft Cam Ward, quarterback out of Miami. Now, this is not a disaster. He’s actually a fine young player, and I think he’s got a really good future. You know, do I think he’ll become a top 10 quarterback in the NFL? No. Maybe. I’ll give him a maybe on that, and that’s about it. Now, for those who don’t know Cam Ward, bottom line, he is tough as nails, highly intelligent. I don’t think quite as brilliant as Shador, but he’s up there. He is a gamer all the way. He’s got a very strong arm. He can make all the throws. He is more nimble afoot than Shador.
SPEAKER 06 :
He is.
SPEAKER 07 :
And so he’s going to get out of more jams and troubles, which he’s going to need to do on Tennessee. And I think he will help them out. The simple fact is, you know, Tennessee’s quarterback right now, Will Levis, let’s face it, he’s a backup, a good backup.
SPEAKER 06 :
I actually think he is. He’s a career backup to me. A career good backup. He’s a backup you want on your team.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. But you need the trigger, man. They’re going to get theirs. It’s going to be Cam Ward at number one. And, you know. What can I say? It’s not one of the best players in the draft. Those come next. But it is the best quarterback in this draft.
SPEAKER 06 :
Andy, I agree with you. If you and I were making this pick, just us, not them, again, especially Tennessee, you’ve got a second-year coach. You’ve got a new GM in there. I would take the best player. I wouldn’t go reach for a quarterback. I maybe would have even gotten a Russell Wilson, maybe tried to get Aaron Rodgers there, whatever it might be. Yeah. I would have gone Travis Hunter because I think that he’s a guy that you can build off of. But I understand where you’re at, Andy, and I don’t disagree. No, no.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’d be totally cool with Hunter there, too. The only thing is they have a bigger need at defensive end. There you go. And they’re close. But it’s going to be Cam Ward. It doesn’t matter.
SPEAKER 06 :
You are number two with the Browns. And, Andy, the Browns are not going to mess this up. And I’m saying that as my opinion, and I’m also going to say, I think that, again, this is my number one player on the board, and I think that the Browns are going to look at it. They don’t have a quarterback. We were talking about this in the break. Deshaun Watson, they decided to trade away and be silly and trade all those picks and give him a guaranteed contract, and now he’s hurt and he’s got more legal issues and all sorts of things. They’re taking the smart approach, right? They’ve got Joe Flacco. And who’s their other quarterback there, Andy, this year? Oh, gosh, I forget. Oh, we’re going to look it up. They don’t have Winston, do they? No, he went to the Giants. The Giants, that’s right. But they’ve got a couple of guys in there that basically they’re just going to Let’s fling the ball around. And they’re also a candidate, which we’ll talk about as we get later into the draft, Andy, to move up in the later part of the first round because the Browns actually have the first pick in the second round, which is a very enviable pick to have. Oh, yes. And especially for a team potentially falling out of the first round. So with that being said, Andy, the Cleveland Browns are going to take my guy, Travis Hunter, wide receiver, cornerback. I got you, Travis. Out of the University of Colorado, I believe our highest draft pick ever, which I am excited about. And yeah, I think it’s a great pick for him.
SPEAKER 07 :
Now, would you be surprised if they take Abdul Carter and have the best tandem pass rushers in the NFL?
SPEAKER 06 :
I would be. Well, I wouldn’t be super surprised because I think that it’s going to go either of those two guys. Carter and Hunter are going to go two and three. I don’t know the order.
SPEAKER 07 :
I agree with you. I’ve got Hunter going number two to the Browns as well. And they could put him with Miles Garrett. I’m just saying, you know, if they do go with Abdul Carter, it’s not going to blow me away. It’s not going to be that huge of a shock. I do know one team that doesn’t carry either way, and that’s the New York Giants because they like them both. Perfect. I think they do, and I think they’re going to be happy with either of them. Are the Giants – sleeping best tonight of any team in the league because they get to sit there and they say, hey, the two best players in the draft, Browns take one and we get the other for less money.
SPEAKER 06 :
No. I mean, they are sleeping good. It’s not a lot less money, but yeah, they’re sleeping good a little bit.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, it’s going to be easy. Okay, let’s get number three, the Giants. I’m going to make this easy. John and Cheyenne, you guys are going to get Abdul Carter, and that is the next LT. And I don’t know that anybody is ever the next LT, but you know what? He’s that type of player. He’s wonderful. He is the total package. You’re going to love him against the pass, against the run. and you guys already have a couple good pass rushers. Now you’ve got a leader of the pack. It’s going to be great. So Abdul Carter, number three to the Giants. It’s a home run.
SPEAKER 06 :
I love it. Yeah, and John, I think you’re going to like that, and we can discuss that more as we get there. That guy is a freak. So with that, Andy, we are going to take our first break. We’re going to come back, and this is where I think the draft maybe gets a little bit interesting in some cases. So again, Richard Rush, Andy Pate, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.

SPEAKER 06 :
And it is Richard Rush, but the boys are back in town. Yes, we are. Again, Richard Rush, Andy Pate in for my dad today. Rush to reason, Devers Afternoon Rush. Andy, this is our NFL draft preview show. We are smack dab, well, not in the middle, but we’re just getting started with our mock draft where you and I kind of go back and forth. We make picks that we think NFL teams will make. First three picks real quick. Cam Ward to the Titans. Andy, you made that one. I said Travis Hunter is going to go to the Browns. You said Abdul Carter is going to go to the Giants. I think that that’s probably the consensus. But Andy, pick number four. That’s a tough one. We’re going to pick up. And I think this is where it sort of gets interesting, although I think you and I are in the same position here. I think that, again, folks, this is where what we think is going to happen, not necessarily what we would do, Andy. To me, I think the Patriots, well, winning some games, they would love Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter to fall to them, I think, early in the draft process. They had hoped that would happen. I don’t think that’s going to be the case now. And the Patriots are a team in need of a lot of things. It doesn’t look like they need a quarterback. Drake May seems like he’s a really talented and a real deal type of a player for them. Good player. But one thing you saw last year is they do need some help on the lines, both offensive and defensively. However, when you have a franchise quarterback, Andy, you’ve got to protect him. And that’s where I’m going to go here. I’m going to go with my… safest offensive line pick and that i think he’s just going to be a stud for a number of years he may not be the most talented may not end up being the best offensive line pick out of this draft but that’s going to be will campbell tackle out of lsu there’s been some talk about his wingspan and some other things that way andy don’t care technically sound he knows what he’s doing he played some big boy football down there in the sec i think it’s a great left tackle for Drake May to kind of grow with and grow behind, and he should really do well, and he should help him remake that line.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I totally agree. I think that’s who I have going at number four as well. I would not do that if I were them, okay? And this is where I look at these teams, and I think they’re making a mistake, because I think he can get a left tackle in the second round. No, he will not be Will Campbell, but… Mason Graham is sitting there right now, the defensive tackle out of Michigan. Mason Graham is a far better football player than Will Campbell. He is. He’s superior.
SPEAKER 06 :
Goes back to what we were talking about.
SPEAKER 07 :
He’s a man-child. Mason Graham blows up offensive lines. And here’s the thing. If you don’t draft him, you’ve got to play him.
SPEAKER 01 :
I agree.
SPEAKER 07 :
And I wouldn’t want that. If I were them, I would take Mason Graham at this place. Now, I agree with you, though. I also have Will Campbell written in next to the Patriots.
SPEAKER 06 :
And I think that’s where we go. So with that, Andy, you are now on the clock. The Jacksonville Jaguars got a new coach in there. Trevor Lawrence, well, you know, he’s kind of been iffy these days. He has. Obviously, they’re not going to go with it because they just signed him to a contract. But there on the clock, there’s been lots of talks of an offensive weapon potentially going here. Andy, where are you going to go?
SPEAKER 07 :
There’s been talk of possibly Ashton Genting, and that, by the way, could very well happen. Ashton Genting is a freak. Ashton Genting is one of the two best running backs probably to come out in the last 15 years. This kid had more yards after contact than all other running backs in college football had total. Okay. Now, yes, I know he did at Boise State. You got a lower level of competition. I understand that. But watch the film. This kid is Marshall Falk. He cuts on a dime. He has power. He has breakaway speed. And more importantly, he has vision. This kid is amazing. And so a lot of people are saying they could take Ashton Gentry. However, they’re number one. Their number one need is defensive tackle. That is their number one need. Their number two need is wide receiver. Number three, offensive tackle. Mason Graham. I have him as the guy here. I have a feeling that you would probably prefer the guy you mentioned earlier, Nolan, Walter Nolan.
SPEAKER 06 :
I mean, if we’re going to take defense, yes. But honestly, again, if I was the Jags here. Well, knowing what you need to get out of Trevor Lawrence, I would take Ashton Gentry here. And again, folks, several years ago we had this disagreement. I am not a huge running back early kind of guy, especially in the first round. I’m a late teens, that type of a guy when I start looking at running backs. But to me, Andy, you’ve got to give Trevor Lawrence as much help as possible. However, when you’re a team like the Jaguars, you’re kind of devoid of talent in a lot of places. So any of these guys are going to help.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, I think Ashton Gentry’s floor is the sixth pick. I think his ceiling is the fourth pick.
SPEAKER 06 :
He’s going to go four to six. But I’m going to put Mason Graham.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m going to put Mason Graham here with the Jaguars, but I don’t know. This one I don’t feel confident with either way. If I said Gentry, I’d be also wondering, well, geez, they might just go with Graham. Mason Graham is the perfect fit. for the Jaguars. He is exactly what they need. They have an absolutely monstrously bad defense. Yes. And they need desperately a guy in the middle who is a wrecking ball. He is that man I think that they should go with and will go with Mason Graham.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. And I don’t necessarily disagree with you, although I guess I’ll say maybe that’s our first disagreement because I probably would have taken Jenty. However, if this happens this way, the Raiders are on the clock and Pete Carroll, is sprinting in his vibrant 70-something-year-old self to give the pick or to have John Schneider make the pick. And because I’m not going to take a ton of time here, Andy, again, I personally would not take Jenty here. And that’s because, again, I think the Raiders, honestly, if I was the Raiders, I would take Shadur because I think that they need a quarterback. Granted, I know they have Geno. That’s a big reach. I know they have Geno. But I’m not a huge Geno guy either.
SPEAKER 07 :
Neither am I, but I think Shador is a big reach. You’ve got a possible generational talent here in Gentee.
SPEAKER 06 :
Possibly. And honestly, as a Broncos fan, I’m going to have to play him every year. And you know what? I’m okay with it because, again, I haven’t seen it. He’s going to have to prove it to me. As a Broncos fan, Gentee is going to have to prove to me that he is really that good. And like you said, maybe he is. I love Saquon coming out. I didn’t like him at three to the Giants because I thought they had other needs. I feel the same way here, although I’m going to take him because I think that that’s what the Raiders will do. If Jenty’s available, they will pick Ashton Jenty.
SPEAKER 07 :
I agree. Ashton Jenty, number six. Really quick, though. Do you feel sorry for him? I mean, really, that organization is a mess. And he’s going to a team, they’re not in as bad a shape as the Giants offensive line was for Saquon, but it’s not great.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, Andy, the only reason is I actually think Pete Carroll’s a real, and it pains me as a Broncos fan to say, I actually think he’s a great coach for the Raiders because he’s really only going to be there for probably about four years, four or five years, and then I think they’ll bring someone else in or he’ll retire or whatever it might be. But I think he’s a good steadying force. He’s going to establish a culture. Their GM, I think, was in Tampa Bay, but then he was also with the Broncos for a little bit. John Spitek, I believe, is who it is. I think that… Sorry, I said Pete Carroll’s going to run and have John Schneider, but he’s going to go to his new GM and say, hey, take this guy for… I just think Pete Carroll’s that really steadying force. So with that being said, Andy, on to the Jets. And if this happens this way, Andy, I actually think the Jets are thrilled because I think they have a choice of… Two really good players here. And in my opinion, it’s either Armand Membo, offensive tackle out of Missouri, who’s a freak, or Ty Warren, the tight end out of Penn State. Yeah, and I believe either pick is good. I’ll tell you who I’m going with. Well, I’m skeptical that the Jets… Well, I’m skeptical that Jets plans a quarterback, to be honest with you, because I don’t think Justin Fields is the guy. But at the same time, this is the year to try it, Andy, because if he’s bad, you get a good pick next year, which is a lot better of a quarterback draft next year. Exactly. You tell me, do you fortify the offensive line if you’re the Jets?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I do. Well, first of all, I look at those two players as very close. Warren is the better player right now, of course. Membaugh has, I think, the greater upside. He could be a several-year Pro Bowl right tackle. Membaugh could be. And so… And their number one need, though, is offensive tackle, specifically right tackle, which is his position. So I’m going to go Armand Membaugh, offensive tackle from Missouri for the J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets, because I’ve got their needs as tackle, wide receiver, defensive tackle, tight end, in that order. Well, I’ll take the one that’s the number one need over the number four need. But if they take Tyler Warren, it will not surprise me at all because he’s awesome.
SPEAKER 06 :
He is fantastic.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, he is. And I’m upset about this because I just made the Bears really happy.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, I was going to say, because this sets up an interesting situation, Andy, because you have, well, two teams coming up that – are interesting, right? You have the Jets, or I guess not the Jets, you have the Panthers, and then you have the Saints coming up. And both of those teams, well, they need a lot of things, but I don’t think tight end is the direction that either of them go. And if you’re the Bears and their new head coach, Ben Johnson, who you obviously know well as a division rival offensive coordinator for the Lions for a while there. It sets up an interesting thing. So I’ll go with it. So let me get my draft updated here, Andy. We’re going to go Membo to the Jets. And you got the Panthers. If I’m the Panthers, Andy, you and I talked about this early. They just need players. Yeah. The Panthers. And I actually think, you know, we talked about this a little bit last year where it was unfortunate for them because Caleb Williams, you know, they would have had the number one pick and everything else. But, Andy, it was actually interesting last year because Bryce Young, their quarterback that they took a couple years ago, Got benched for Andy Dalton. Then Andy Dalton gets into a car wreck. Hurts his thumb. They got to play Bryce Young again, who actually, he goes against the Broncos, kind of got torched. But then he really started to play well the rest of the year. Agreed. And dare I say, he’s starting to figure it out and be the player that a lot of people thought he would be, which is not an exceptional athlete. But he processes well. He can make the right reads. Very accurate. He’s a very accurate thrower. And so I think that the Panthers are actually an interesting team. And we talked about the four pillars at the start of the hour. To me, Andy… The Panthers are in a situation where they have the second richest owner in the NFL behind the Broncos. If he would get out of the way more, David Tepper, I actually think they would because they have all the resources that they need. I actually think they have a good GM in place. They potentially have a quarterback, and I actually like their coach, Dave Canales. I think that’ll be interesting. So with that being said, I’m going to take Jalen Walker, who is linebacker slash edge out of Georgia. I think he’s a really good player. You and I talked about him. He’s got kind of a really kind of a wide spread in which he can go. But I think, Andy, this is a good spot for them, and they need players, and they do need help on the defensive side. And I think that that gets them there.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I agree. Now, by the way, as a wild card, would you be totally surprised if it were Michael Williams, Mikel Williams?
SPEAKER 06 :
No, because I think those two are interchangeable. Jalen’s a little bit smaller of a player, but I think he’s a better talent. I think Williams is obviously a bigger guy, maybe a more complete specimen, but he lacks maybe some of the finer skills that I’m looking for.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I have Jalen Walker going there as well. By the way, so far, this is exactly my mock draft through the first eight picks.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, so now, again, I think there is going to be a point where this thing kind of gets a little bit weird and funky. Oh, yeah. And I think that may be coming up. I’m going to make it weird right now. I was going to say, you’re coming back, Andy. The Saints, and there is someone on the board that I think could go that way.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, let’s jump right in here.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, I’m going to make you hold. Oh, we’re going to take a break? Yep, we’re going to run to break. And, folks, I’m telling you, this is where the draft could get really, really funky. So stay tuned. Richard Rush, Andy Pate, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.

When it comes to your estate, you really don’t want to leave things up to luck. Michael Bailey doesn’t rely on chance. He relies on solid, thorough planning and getting to know you as you develop your plan together. That’s because a good estate plan isn’t about luck. It’s about wisdom, preparation, and making sure your family is protected no matter what. Think about it. When you pass on, will you leave your family to guess what to do with your possessions, investments, and other assets? Or would you want to make those instructions very clear so your family can know your final wishes in detail? That’s what an estate plan does. It’s not about luck. It’s about making sure what you want to happen is followed, your assets are protected, and your family isn’t left searching for answers. SPEAKER 16 :
Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 06 :
And we’re back on Rush to Reason, KLZ 560. Richard Rush in for John Rush today. Andy Pate with me, our annual NFL draft show. Andy, we’re going to jump right back in with the Saints. However, well, actually, you’re going to get to your pick, and then I’m going to offer you a scenario. But you are on the clock. The Saints, lots of options. They are in a world of hurt in a lot of ways. They’ve got a new coach in Kellen Clemens.
SPEAKER 07 :
The Saints are a classic example of a team that ignored the salary cap. Yes. And they put themselves in what we call salary cap hell, and they wrecked their team. This is why you don’t unload all these contracts so that the last couple years jump to 300%.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, you do that, Andy, just making sure that you’re doing it with the right guys.
SPEAKER 07 :
Not with everyone. Yeah, but what I mean is the years rise, but they really rose them. Or you don’t restructure every contract to where they’re all going to hit it once and kill you. And this is what they did. Okay, so now the Saints are a mess. And they’re a mess because of how they handled their cap. So they lost everybody. Okay, I’m going to have the Saints be the first team in this draft who reach. and they are going to reach on Shadur Sanders, quarterback from Colorado now. Is this a big need for them? Yes, it is. They just lost their starter to a season-ending injury.
SPEAKER 06 :
Potentially.
SPEAKER 07 :
Potentially. Look, even when he comes back, is he going to be ready? I don’t think so. And Derek Carr was falling off last year.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, they need a quarterback. They do. I actually think this would be – from a standpoint, logistically, you’ve got a new coach. Kellen Clemens is actually, I think, a similar, when he played, was a similar player to Shador. Not a super athlete, but he processed as well, and he was super accurate.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. Now, there are many other players they could take here, though. Okay, they could take Jackson Dart and surprise everybody. I would not do that. They might do that. They could take Kelvin Banks’ offensive tackle because they need one. They could go defense here, Andy. They could go defense here. They could go a lot of directions. Why? They suck. That’s why. But I’m going to have them taking Shador Sanders. There you go.
SPEAKER 06 :
And I don’t disagree. The only thing I was going to say is, I’ve been hearing things. And real quick, if Shador slips past here, he’s obviously going to go past the Bears. Yeah. If he gets to the Niners… Would the Niners be better off re-signing Brock Purdy to a massive extension or taking Shadur Sanders and letting Brock Purdy walk next year?
SPEAKER 07 :
I think they’d be better off taking Shadur, however, than they wouldn’t get a really tremendous defensive player.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m with you, but the Niners have proven if you have a cost-controlled quarterback, which they have had for the last three years, you can do a lot of other things with your team. You can sign a lot of really talented players around that quarterback to do it. And in the case of Shadur, you get him cost-controlled for five years. Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
And they would instantly trade Brock Purdy.
SPEAKER 06 :
Because he’d be furious. And I think you could get a… Eh, not going to get that much. I don’t think you’d get a first from him. No, no way.
SPEAKER 07 :
You’d be lucky to get a third because somebody would give you a third because they have to pay him.
SPEAKER 06 :
They’d get him one cheap year. Honestly, Andy, I think you could trade Purdy. To a team? Pittsburgh. I was going to say, can you trade him out of the AFC? Or NFC, I should say. Yeah, to Pittsburgh. Maybe even to… The Vikings probably wouldn’t go that route. No, I can see Pittsburgh. Really, Pittsburgh to me, or Cleveland. Pittsburgh, Cleveland, or even the Giants. Even the Giants.
SPEAKER 07 :
Although the Giants just got Winston, who isn’t much lower than Purdy.
SPEAKER 06 :
I agree, but you know what you get. Anyways, I think the Bears are thrilled here, Andy. I’m now on the clock, number 10. I’m not going to take a ton of time. Ben Johnson wants an offensive weapon for Caleb Williams that he can move around, that he can do all sorts of things with, and that is exactly who Tyler Warren is. He was my guy for the Broncos as I was watching him in college. I kept sending Walt all sorts of messages saying, We got to take him. This is my dude. Get whatever we got to do to make it happen. And he’s just going to be too good, Andy. So the Bears are going to sprint to the podium, take Tyler Warren. They could not be happier. You are now on the clock with the aforementioned 49ers.
SPEAKER 07 :
I know. That’s why I was angry at myself for giving Membo to the Jets at number seven because I knew I was going to win. helping the Bears at number 10 with Tyler Warren. By the way, this is exactly my draft that I had projected for the first 10 picks. This is eerie. I’m going to go off script. Love it. Okay. I don’t know, because here we’ve got the 49ers, and they really do need a defensive tackle. There are two, and I love them both, Walter Nolan and Kenneth Grant. And it depends on what you want. Walter Nolan, defensive tackle out of Mississippi, he’s lighter. He’s under 300 pounds, about 296, and he is excellent defensively. either pressuring the passer, but he also was the second-rated run-stopping defensive tackle in college football.
SPEAKER 06 :
He’s a complete guy.
SPEAKER 07 :
However, Kenneth Grant would be your anchor, okay? And he’s 335 pounds of mean, an athlete. He is actually the better athlete of the two, but I’m going to go with Walter Nolan, defensive tackle out of Mississippi to the San Francisco 49ers, and I think they’re going to love him. What do you think?
SPEAKER 06 :
I like it. Obviously, when we were talking in the early part, kind of giving our top 10 players, I think that he is one of my top 10 players in the draft. And so it kind of fits right with where he’s at. Kenneth Grant is a monster of a man out of Michigan. He is a stud. But again, Andy, I think we talked about this defensive tackle. There’s lots of studs in the draft that way. So… I like it, and I think San Francisco needs that. Although, again, I think maybe our scenario before would be interesting. However, I’m now on to the Cowboys at pick 12. Real quick here. Did you have San Fran taking anybody else? It depends on if Graham, Mason Graham, falls. If he falls, I could see him taking him. But I think they’re going to go with… I think you can kind of pencil in one of those three players, Graham, Grant, or Nolan to the 49ers. All right, with me, Cowboys on the board. I think Andy, again, Jerry Jones, you never know which direction he’s going to go. But I think it’s one of two, and it’s both on the offensive side of the ball. I think he either goes… Wide receiver. Or I think he goes with an offensive guard. Offensive tackle. Because they’ve had a few retirements happen there in Dallas. And so it’s a little bit funky with what they’ve got going on. However, I think he knows he has a window with Dak. He’s paying him a lot of money. Whether he protects Dak or gives him another weapon, I think maybe he would argue that he didn’t have enough weapons last year. He didn’t. And so I think they’re going to go with a speedy guy out of the state of Texas. I think they’re going to go with a wide receiver, Matthew Golden here. Again, wide receiver out of Texas. And I think he’ll fit well with CeeDee Lamb. And I think that the Cowboys will at least have an exciting offense, which they may need to. Well, depending on what they decide to do with you, Micah Parsons, and some of those guys.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, that’s an interesting pick, and I actually had Tedaroa and McMillan going there, and I understand. Look, Golden ran a 4-2-9.
SPEAKER 06 :
Jerry’s the new Al Davis, Andy. Oh, yeah, yeah. He likes speed. He likes the speed. He likes the flashiness, and McMillan is everything but flashy.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I got to tell you, though, McMillan, people are like, well, he runs in the 4-5s. Watch him play. He doesn’t play 4-5s. No. Okay? He plays in the 4-4s. This guy, as quick as he is out of his cuts, he’s 6-5. He has the wingspan of a condor. He catches everything. He high points things. He is the best red zone target in this entire draft, and, yes, I’m including the tight ends.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, and I think it presents an interesting situation, Andy, because you have some teams coming up. Yeah, you have some teams coming up that don’t necessarily need –
SPEAKER 07 :
But Golden is more than just a speedster. He runs great routes.
SPEAKER 06 :
He has good hands.
SPEAKER 07 :
He is a pure wide receiver, too. He’s wonderful. So, I mean, wide receiver also.
SPEAKER 06 :
He could actually be. I mean, he could be a wide receiver one, which maybe he does after CeeDee’s contract runs out. But, yeah, I think you pair him with CeeDee Lamb. I think it’s a good pairing. Okay. Brings us to the Dolphins, Andy, at pick 13 for you. I don’t think they go offense here. I think they go defense. But you tell me.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, this is really tough. Actually, they need an offensive tackle because he just retired. Their left tackle did.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, Armstead, he did.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right, and that’s a huge loss. The guy I would like them to take is Jadé Barron. I like that one, too. The cornerback out of Texas. Because I think they’re going to get rid of Jalen Ramsey. Exactly, and so I like Jadé Barron there. On the other hand, Calvin Banks would be a tremendous pickup because— Back-to-back Texas picks. look they’re a mess they desperately need a left tackle and they desperately need a new corner what do you do i mean seriously between those two what do you do i think it’s really hard or even will will johnson is a possibility yeah i think for them i think offensive line is slightly less of a need than defense because especially if you’re going to get rid of ramsey
SPEAKER 06 :
Are we 100% that they’re going to trade Ramsey? You’ll tell by this pick if they’re going to or not. So if they take a DB here, they’re getting rid of him. If they don’t, they may not. Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
In that case, guess what? I’m going to go off script. I’m going to take Banks. Okay, Calvin Banks. Because I don’t know for sure, for sure they’re trading Ramsey. I agree. If they trade Ramsey, I would take Jaday Barron. Jaday Barron. Jaday Barron.
SPEAKER 06 :
Jaday Barron. Okay. And Calvin Banks, again, folks, he’s a mountain of a man at offensive tackle. He’s a stud out of Texas. he was phenomenal for them in the college football playoffs. So, all right, Andy, I’m going to end this segment with my Colts pick. Easy. Again, I apparently am the tight end guy here because I think they’re going to sprint. They want a guy for either Daniel Jones or Anthony Richardson. Shane Steichen wants a weapon. And, again, arguably the most complete tight end, and he was one of my top 10 players, and you’re getting him at 14. And that’s the tight end out of Michigan, folks, who is Colston Loveland. Yep. I think the Broncos would love for him to fall. He may or may not. I don’t think he falls any lower than Indy Andy. I think that that’s who they’re looking for. They want to give their quarterbacks as much of an opportunity as possible to succeed. So, again, if I’m Indy, I’m going Colston Loveland, tight end of Michigan. Great pick. Love it. Okay. All right. We are going to come back, Indy. We are almost halfway through, so we’ll speed it up just a little bit more. But we’re going to come back, get through a few more picks. Again, you’re listening to Richard Rush, Andy Pate. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.

SPEAKER 06 :
And we are back on Rush to Reason. Richard Rush, Andy Pate in for our draft show. And sometimes we do yell at you, and that’s okay. It’s okay to get yelled at. Yeah. We don’t have enough yelling in today’s world, Andy. My kids will tell you. Sometimes I yell, and sometimes I shouldn’t, and then I have to apologize. But a lot of times. Yeah, but we don’t want you to be snowflakes. That’s right.
SPEAKER 07 :
We want to raise a strong audience here.
SPEAKER 06 :
Especially snowflakes in the NFL draft, because if you guys don’t know this, you’re really missing out. And you know what? I am going to reverse that one pick. Oh, hold on, Andy. Hold on. I’ve got to rake you over the coals. Go ahead. We did, folks, during break. We allowed. Allowed, which just doesn’t happen. We allowed Andy to switch a pick, which was the Dolphins pick. You picked Kelvin Banks originally. Well, I was 50-50 either way.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and I decided to go with Jaday Barron because… I just like the player more. And, you know, the problem is that you’ve got a real problem. You’ve got two players there, and they’ve got two massive needs, and you don’t know which one they’re going to take. And after thinking it through enough, I just decided, you know, I personally like Barron better. Perfect. Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, with that said, Andy, we’re going to run through these next few picks. Okay, here we go. Atlanta Falcons, you are on the clock. Pick 15. Where are we going?
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay, I know probably the easy pick here would be Michael Williams, edge out of Georgia. But you know what? I don’t think Atlanta’s a smart team. And instead, I’m going to give them a very good player, Mike Green, the edge out of Marshall. Now, I know it’s at a lower level of competition. But that 17 sacks didn’t…
SPEAKER 06 :
You know, that didn’t come out of nowhere. He’s got some question marks, Andy. That’s the only thing for him. He’s got some potential off-field stuff. But like you say, it probably should be Williams out of Georgia here. But, you know, the Falcons tend to struggle sometimes.
SPEAKER 07 :
I just don’t believe in the Falcons. And this one I’m not reversing. I believe it’s going to be Mike Green.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, and I don’t necessarily disagree. I think if he gets his head on straight, he could be a player. But that brings me, Andy, to Arizona, the Cardinals. They were competitive last year, but I think that they’re going to stay on the offensive side of the ball. To me, they’re going to go offensive line here, Andy. And whether it’s Kelvin Banks, which I know we just talked about as far as an offensive tackle here, but I’ve got a little bit of a… I don’t know. A conundrum? Yeah, I’m going to go with a different offensive tackle here, Andy, which is going to be Josh Simmons, offensive tackle out of Ohio State. Okay, so you’re betting on his recovery. Yeah, I am, and I think that Banks may get knocked a little bit because we talked about this before. He’s a mountain of a man, and I think that may help him, but in other cases that may hurt him, and he was injured in the college football playoff, and he kind of struggled there, so I think it’ll be interesting. But with that said, Andy, Josh Simmons, offensive tackle, Ohio State to the Cardinals. You are on the clock with the Bengals, which I think is a very interesting team.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I think the Bengals, look, and by the way, Simmons, if he’s healthy, could well be the best tackle in the draft. Okay, I mean, that’s not a bad pick at all. Okay, the Bengals, let’s face it, they need a lot. And, you know, have they gotten enough offensive line yet for their quarterback? Because he keeps getting killed.
SPEAKER 06 :
I think, Andy, I think the Bengals will go similarly to where we were talking about with the Dolphins in that I don’t think the Bengals want to pay Trey Hendrickson. No, they don’t. And so I think they’re going to go somewhere on that defensive line to replace him and then trade him.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, they may have to.
SPEAKER 06 :
Versus they should be taking maybe Calvin Banks and other offensive tackle. They’re really sure of their offensive line.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and they also have a big need at defensive tackle. They have a big need at corner. Their defense is a mess. Yeah, their defense is a mess. And, you know, if I’m the Bengals and I’m sitting there looking at Kenneth Grant, I know it’s not an edge rusher, but he’s too good. I’m going with the value pick here. I’m going to take Kenneth Grant, defensive tackle, mountain of a man, in the middle for the Cincinnati Bengals. He’s out of Michigan. I like it.
SPEAKER 06 :
And depending on where you have him, that may be a reach, may not, Andy, but I don’t mind it. All right, that brings me up to the Seattle Seahawks, Andy, at pick 18. I think that they need a few different things on that team. Obviously, they just got rid of their quarterback. um but they or i guess who did they i guess they brought back drew lock and from minnesota oh yeah they stand they signed sam darnold you’re right you go so what would yeah i was they’re not gonna go there they’re gonna at least give the darnold train a little bit of a run here um i’m gonna go andy i’m gonna go offensive line here uh-huh another one it’s not on i because i didn’t know he was gonna fall i’m gonna actually go with kelvin banks here Oh, okay. Because I just think that he’s maybe a little bit too, you know, falling a little bit too much for my liking. So I’m going to go Kelvin Banks, offensive tackle out of Texas, to the Seahawks, who that seems like a Seahawk pick, doesn’t it, Andy? Well, honestly, their biggest need is guard.
SPEAKER 07 :
So I thought you were going to go with Gray Zabel.
SPEAKER 06 :
North Dakota State. I like that, too. But in this case, I think… But Banks just going a little more value pick. Yeah, a little bit more value. And I could be wrong. I’ll just say this. Whether it’s Banks to the Seahawks versus just an offensive lineman as a whole, we’ll go there. But yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. All right. I like it. Okay. Now we’ve got the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at number 19. And boy, oh boy, do I wish that they needed a guard, but they don’t. They don’t really need a wide receiver, which is unfortunate because Tedaro McMillan is shockingly still available. Still available. He should not have drawn. Look, he’s going to be a stud. Okay. He shouldn’t be there. Really, if I were them right now, I would trade out of this position to anybody who wants either Omari and Hampton or Tedaro and McMillan. I would trade down if I were them right now.
SPEAKER 06 :
And for the sake of argument, folks, we did not do trades in this draft. We can, but that just gets really, really complicated. We’ve done it a few years.
SPEAKER 07 :
Because I can’t do that, I’m going to go with Jihad Campbell, linebacker out of Alabama. That’s very much a need for them. They need both inside linebacker and edge, and this guy can play both. and he’s terrific.
SPEAKER 06 :
I like that pick a lot. Yeah, I think that he’s a really talented player, which brings us to, and actually this is perfect timing. Isn’t there a local team? There’s a local team coming up. Really? What’s that local team? My Denver Broncos, Andy. Let’s talk about them the rest of the hour. Yes, they are looking forward to this pick. They have been for a while now. We no longer have to reach for a quarterback, regardless of if you think Bo Nix is a franchise guy or not. Walt, I’m talking to you. Whether you think he is a franchise guy or not, he’s at least solidified your position in the draft. Or at least solidified that position to where you can now take… Honestly, we talked about this Monday, Andy. You can take some weapons. And to me… There’s two weapons available here, and they’re both running backs, and it’s sort of which flavor do you want? Do you want Omar and Hampton? Or do you want… Yes, go. Tell me. Tell me where I’m wrong.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, there’s two weapons here, but one’s a wide receiver, McMillan. Look, you guys have good wide receivers, but not like him. He is a step… Well, you know what? You’ve got one just like him, but McMillan… Sutton is a more mature McMillan. Yeah, but McMillan’s quicker out of a cut.
SPEAKER 06 :
Andy, my only reason why I’m not going to take McMillan is I think the Broncos are really happy with their wide receiver room. Some comments from Sean Payton and George Payton. And it’d be too much duplication of what they have. Yeah, because I think that they’re going to sign Sutton to an extension. It’s probably going to be a two-year deal. It’ll probably be a three-year extension with this year guaranteed and next year guaranteed. And then I think that they like Devon Vele, who’s the older wide receiver they drafted out of Utah last year. They like Marvin Mims. And I think you can get a couple receivers later on in the draft, too, if you kind of want to fill out that room. So that’s why I’m not going with McMillan.
SPEAKER 07 :
Hey, the guy I think you’re about to pick, I had in my top 12 to 14 players.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, so here’s a question. Go. Omari on Hampton or Travion Henderson? Hampton. Hands down. And I like Henderson, but Hampton. And the only reason I suggest Henderson is he more of the Alvin Kamara mold for Sean Payton than Hampton is. Hampton caught about 85% of the passes thrown to him. Yes, but what Sean Payton is looking for in a running back is Omarion’s good at catching. He’s not a great pass protector, however.
SPEAKER 07 :
No. I don’t care. Omarion Hampton is a wrecking ball, and his very presence will back off the pass rush a lot. This guy is special. You know what he is? He is Marshawn Lynch with an extra step. He’s beast mode with an extra step. You do not turn down beast mode with an extra step. He’s too good. I think this is an easy pick. I think Sean Payton will run a 4-4-40 up to the podium.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, I am going to go… Again, this is… And by the way, I love the other guy, too. This is what we think is going to happen, not what we would do. I think Sean Payton is going to put some value on some of the other pieces that Travion Henderson does well over Hampton. And so… I’m not saying I would do that because I like Hampton. I actually think Hampton’s closer to Gentee than a lot of people do. And so for that reason, folks, your first round pick for the Denver Broncos will be running back Travion Henderson out of Ohio State. You saw him in the national championship game, the college football playoff. He is a lightning rod. He does everything well. He does everything well. I think it’s personally a little bit early here. We talk about trades. If I was the Broncos, I would probably try to trade out of this just for a little bit. But, again, that’s not me, right? I’m kind of thinking what they will do. This could very well happen. It could. All right, folks, tune in for the next hour, the last hour. I can’t believe it’s here already. For the last half of our mock draft, Richard Rush, Andy Paint, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, Rush to Reason, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 16 :
I’m a rich guy.
