NHL Playoffs: Maple Leafs, Golden Knights and Oilers advance; Avalanche force Game 7 against Stars

The Toronto Maple Leafs will advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs after defeating the Ottawa Senators 4-2 in Game 6 on Thursday. Toronto took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Auston Matthews and William Nylander, but Ottawa rallied with two goals to tie the game 2-2 in the third period. Toronto’s Max Pacioretty went on to score the go-ahead goal, and Nylander added an empty netter en route to victory for the Maple Leafs.

Toronto will face the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Minnesota Wild with a 3-2 victory in Game 6 on Thursday, advancing them to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Shea Theodore, Jack Eichel and Mark Stone scored for the Golden Knights, with Ryan Hartman scoring both goals for the Wild.

The Golden Knights will play the Edmonton Oilers, who beat the LA Kings in their series on Thursday night.

The Edmonton Oilers beat the LA Kings 6-4 in Game 6 on Thursday night, to close out their series 4-2 and move onto the second round. Connor Brown had a goal and two assists, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Darnell Nurse, Zach Hyman and Trent Frederic each had a goal and an assist, and Adam Henrique also scoring. Calvin Pickard made 23 saves.

The Oilers will face the Golden Knights in the second round.

The Colorado Avalanche stayed alive with 7-4 victory Thursday night at Ball Arena against the Dallas Stars, evening their series 3-3. Valeri Nichushkin scored twice while Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar each posted a goal and two assists  Martin Necas, Josh Manson and Artturi Lehkonen added goals for Colorado while Gabriel Landeskog and Brock Nelson both posted two assists. The Avalanche and Stars will face-off in Game 7 on Saturday in Dallas.
