In this week’s episode of the Mike Gallagher Show Week in Review podcast, we delve into the media’s portrayal of the Los Angeles riots and the national response. With a sharp critique of the coverage, Mike Gallagher highlights inconsistencies and biases, challenging the narrative of ‘mostly peaceful protests.’ Dive into a comprehensive analysis of how media coverage can shape public perception and the political implications of such portrayals.
SPEAKER 05 :
Welcome to the Mike Gallagher Show Week in Review podcast. It’s Friday the 13th, June 13th. This week we look at the L.A. riots from every perspective, plus a Walmart heiress protests the president and ABC News fires a star reporter. We start with the media’s dishonest take on the Los Angeles riots. And the media is trying the summer of love, mostly peaceful protests again. It’s like a Tourette’s syndrome, like a tick. They can’t stop themselves. Mostly peaceful. It’s like calling January 6th an insurrection. They couldn’t ever stay away from the word insurrection every single time they use it. Gosh, the media is so bad. They’re just… And, of course, it’s exemplified by Terry Moran’s obvious bias. And we’ll get to all of that, too. Here’s an example of a reporter. I mean, let’s look at local reporters from it. I happen to have the local CBS affiliate here in Tampa Bay on last night. It’s what do they call it, Action 10 or ABC? Or is it ABC? It’s Channel 10. And there was a young female anchor. And she was covering the riots in L.A., the anti-ICE, anti-law and order, pro-illegal immigrant riots. You know, the ones with all the Mexican flags as they were assaulting cops and raining down terror on the streets of L.A. The local anchor here in Tampa Bay on Channel 10 said, looks into the camera and admits she claimed 55% of Americans are in favor of Trump’s mass deportation effort. And then she got excited and she said, but 44% are opposed. Well, if 55% are in favor of it, probably, and I wonder what the other 1%, where they went. That was an actual, I heard that with my own ears and watched with my own eyes. And she got excited about the 44% who opposed. Because those people matter more than the majority of us who voted for the mass deportations. Here’s the reporter from ABC. You’ve got to hear this. How about, let’s go to L.A.? ? This is the ABC local news reporter in Los Angeles, ABC7. Now, thanks to X and thanks to intrepid people with cell phone cameras, we can all see what’s going on there, right? We all see what’s happening. Here they go again.
SPEAKER 12 :
Demonstrations had been going on right outside the federal detention center. Most of those demonstrations were very peaceful. They were chanting, they were shouting. People were driving by honking their horns. And again, they were expressing their anger about the detention of so many immigrants at the federal center.
SPEAKER 05 :
Screaming at her. They’re up in her face. They’re yelling at her. There’s burning cars in the background. They’re mostly peaceful. Very peaceful. They’re not sort of peaceful. They’re very peaceful. How about Dana Bash on CNN? Get ready for this doozy.
SPEAKER 11 :
I just want to just state for the record that what did happen in 1992 was so different from what we’re seeing now. I mean, that was a real riot that went all across the city of Los Angeles after a verdict in the Rodney King case. This is a situation where… The L.A. County L.A. County police. It’s not good, but they’re saying that they have it under control. And the president is sending national troops.
SPEAKER 08 :
We can look at this and we can obviously see that it is not under control. It’s not under control. You and I both can see that it’s not under control. And a riot is a riot.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, that’s Mark Wayne Mullen. Yes, a riot is a riot. Now, according to Dana Bash, what’s happening in L.A. isn’t really a riot. It’s not a real riot. I mean, Kamala Harris is claiming that the protests were overwhelmingly peaceful. That’s the latest doozy from her. Look, all I can do is count on normal people to see what’s going on here. But I don’t know if we can. I don’t know. At this point, I’m at a loss. Proving that politics can split families, we have an unreasonably good authority that the late Walmart founder Sam Walton was a conservative. His heirs? Not so much. Many decades ago, Sam Walton himself… from Walmart, called the station and said that Mike Gallagher is doing a really good job. Now, again, to this day, I don’t know if it’s true or not, but if it’s true, I wonder what he would think of his daughter-in-law, Christy. Have you heard about the full-page ads that she’s taking out, urging people to get out? And I guess resist the Trump administration this Saturday. Saturday is going to be a big day because not only will there be. The big military parade, and oh my gosh, the left is losing their minds over that. You can’t put our military assets on display. That’s something they do in North Korea, which I suspect just getting under their skin is a part of why President Trump is doing it. But there’s nothing wrong with it. I mean, we’ve never really, I guess, done stuff like that before, so it’s going to be a big day. It’s also Flag Day, and it also happens to be President Trump’s birthday. As a result, the left is rubbing their hands together, and they’re saying, boy, we’ve got to get out, and we’ve got to counter-protest. No Kings is what they’re calling it. It’s the No Kings protest. And so here’s a big full-page color ad in the New York Times. No kings. June 14th. Mobilize. We’re a people of principle and honor. We honor our commitments. Stand by our allies. We defend against aggression by dictators. We uphold and defend the Constitution. We care for veterans and children. unless they’re in the womb. We respect our neighbors and trading partners. We support a healthy national and international economy. We’re the world leader trusted to uphold the stability of the rule of law. We are the people of the United States of America. No kings. June 14th. Mobilize. And this ad, it says at the bottom, paid for by Christy Walton. The views represented here are solely those of Christy Walton. Well, when you’re an heir to the Walmart fortune, I guess you can afford a full-page ad in the New York Times. She’s 76 years old. I was reading about her because I’m intrigued by this, especially considering my perhaps fantasy relationship with her late father-in-law, who died, incidentally, in 1992. She’s worth an estimated $17.8 billion. She married into the Walmart dynasty. Her husband was John Walton, son of the Walmart founder, Sam. John died in a plane crash in 2005, and she inherited a big portion of his shares. So she’s taken out ads encouraging resistance. Now look, it’s a funny thing about protest. There’s nothing wrong with peaceful protest. The problem is the left has warped that phrase and turned it into violence. And we all know it. We all know it. I saw Ben Ferguson on CNN last night. I want to play this clip for you because Ben pointed out on the Abby Phillips panel over on CNN that there’s children in America who have a mom or dad in an American prison. But there’s no rioting and looting when that happens. So why is it any different with illegal immigrants? A great clip from Ben last night. Here it is.
SPEAKER 07 :
There’s news in America every single day. There are children that cry when their mom or dad, who’s an American citizen that breaks the law, gets arrested and goes to jail. I have watched it, and there’s no rioting and looting over that because we understand that we’re either a country of laws or we are not a country of laws. Every day we send moms and dads who are American citizens to prison, and we separate them from their families. And you know why we don’t feel sorry for them? Because we judge them on the law, and we say if you break the law in America, we put you in jail.
SPEAKER 05 :
So why is it different for illegal immigrants? And he got a little covered up by the inevitable crosstalk on that panel. They’re all yapping always and interrupting each other. But he says at the end, Why is it any different for illegals? It is against the law to be here illegally. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth hatched a clever plan to rename military bases to satisfy woke complaints without actually having to rename them. Watching the way the left… smears Southerners, and this is something that I have felt for many, many years, particularly since I spent a lot of my life in the South. And the way they are restoring all the Confederate names of military bases back to the original name, it is one of the most brilliant things I’ve ever witnessed in my life. Because the whiny crybabies who somehow are offended at the name Bragg in Fort Bragg as it goes back to Fort Bragg again can’t complain because it’s a different Bragg. The Confederate general, the Confederate general that was Braxton Bragg, when it was founded in 1918. And then, of course, Joe Biden, oh, no, no, no, we got to appease the snowflakes who are upset about Confederate names, because a name really, really does you in, right? The name of something really makes you crazy. You know, just like the tomahawk chop. Do they still do that in Atlanta? I’m sure they replace that in Atlanta, right? I know they do it for the Florida Seminoles, right? Oh, no, it can’t. Oh, my gosh. That’s terrible. Oh, that’s awful. Horrifying. So, yeah, it’s not Braxton Bragg anymore. It’s Roland Bragg. Roland Bragg was a private and a war hero of World War II. Can’t get over that. The illegal immigration riots in LA are at the top of everyone’s mind this week. You know who the media blames for the unrest, don’t you? President Trump, of course. Before you go down the road of trying to buy into the blaming Trump, Blaming Trump, as they always do. They blame Trump for everything. In California, they blamed him for the wildfires. They blamed him for the empty water reservoirs. They blame him for everything. Gavin Newsom’s got nowhere else to go. That shouldn’t be a surprise. Why wouldn’t they blame Trump? They can’t blame themselves. But what do you think a normal American thinks when they see all these riots happening? conducted by people waving Mexican flags. You want to know what they think? Let me translate it for you. If you’re a kooky leftist who happened to have found this show, let me interpret it for you. You know what normal people think when they see riots and rocks and bottles and projectiles and pepper spray and assaults on law enforcement and assaults on the National Guard in Los Angeles and they see people waving Mexican flags while doing it? You know what they think? Normal people? Invasion. That’s the only word that comes to normal people’s minds. Invasion. These are invaders. These are people who have invaded our country. I got to play this clip. This one will blow you away. This was from social media, happened to repost it from an exchange. There’s an anchor and two political analysts. I don’t know who the political analysts are. One’s a guy, one’s a gal. The man speaks complete normal truth. The woman doesn’t know what to do. The woman pulls the equivalent of Jackie Gleason’s Humana, Humana, Humana, Humana when he speaks truth about what’s happening in California.
SPEAKER 03 :
Brad, what are you thinking?
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, we got to this moment because California has a sanctuary policy. The state law forbids local law enforcement from cooperating with or local government from cooperating with immigration enforcement. We have immigration laws that govern the entire land, and California is willfully ignoring them. California’s left-wing politicians set this up. If California had long been cooperating and helping enforce immigration laws all along the way, this would not be…
SPEAKER 10 :
It’s not the whole state. You do know that some of this is jurisdictions. There are certain towns that do. But there are certain towns that absolutely have cooperated with federal authorities.
SPEAKER 04 :
Shouldn’t they all?
SPEAKER 10 :
You know, this is part of the issue that is always interesting here is when Republicans want to talk about states’ rights, it’s about states’ rights when it is something that they’re interested in and not when it is something that perhaps Democrats and their states are interested in.
SPEAKER 04 :
And so I think… We’ve all agreed on what immigration laws are. There’s not a state… We’re going to talk about this more in the hour. I want to bring in…
SPEAKER 05 :
I don’t know what her name is. I have no idea what her name is. But when she says, well, there are some little towns and little communities in California that are willing to cooperate with ICE, he says, shouldn’t they all? Shouldn’t they all? Shouldn’t they all? Shouldn’t every town? And she turns into a debate. She turns it into a conversation about states’ rights because she doesn’t know what else to do. She doesn’t know what else to say. Oh, my gosh. That clip is perfect. Brought to you by my friend Mike Lindell at MyPillow. And look, these sheets are going there, flying off the shelves like hotcakes. I’ve been bragging about the Giza Dream Sheets for years. They’re made from the finest cotton on earth. Giza, the cotton is unbelievable. The sheets are smooth and luxurious and silky. Trump addressed military personnel and the American people on a big visit to Fort Bragg this week. His speech left little doubt about his position on illegal immigration, the military, and much more. The most electric moment of Trump’s address yesterday at Fort Bragg wasn’t about military budgets or renaming military bases. It came when he spoke from the gut about the riots engulfing Los Angeles. This was a battle for the soul of America. The violence had spiraled for days, but aside from a few posts on Truth Social, Trump had largely remained quiet. That ended the moment he looked out across the crowd of troops and launched into what sounded less like a speech and more like a battlefield briefing.
SPEAKER 06 :
I want to say a few words about the situation in Los Angeles, California. Have you heard of the place where I’ve deployed thousands of National Guard troops and hundreds of Marines to protect federal law enforcement from the attacks of a vicious and violent mob? And some of the radical left, they say, oh, that’s not nice. Well, if we didn’t do it, there wouldn’t be a Los Angeles. It would be burning today, just like the houses were burning a number of months ago. Generations of Army heroes did not shed their blood on distant shores only to watch our country be destroyed by invasion and third-world lawlessness here at home, like is happening in California. As Commander-in-Chief, I will not let that happen. It’s never going to happen.
SPEAKER 05 :
crowd, of course, roared. From there, he didn’t just keep the pressure on, he escalated, and the troops were loving it. He painted the riots not as random chaos on, you know, two isolated blocks, like my poor delusional friend said, but as a coordinated attack on the United States itself.
SPEAKER 06 :
What you’re witnessing in California is a full-blown assault on peace, on public order. and a national sovereignty carried out by rioters bearing foreign flags with the aim of continuing a foreign invasion of our country. We’re not going to let that happen. Remember, millions of people were allowed to come into our country totally unchecked and unvetted by stupid people or radical left people or sick people.
SPEAKER 05 :
As the vigilant Fox describes it on X, President Trump then unearthed something that ignites a fire within every red-blooded American, the burning, the burning of the American flag. These are animals.
SPEAKER 06 :
But they proudly carry the flags of other countries, but they don’t carry the American flag. They only burn it. Did you see a lot of the flags being burned? They weren’t being burned by people from our country or from people that love our country. People that burn the American flag should go to jail for one year. That’s what they should be doing. And we’ll see if we can get that done.
SPEAKER 05 :
And then came the bombshell, Vigilant Fox writes. Trump dropped another charge, one aimed at the people who are pulling the strings behind the curtain. And as everyone suspects, Trump said this isn’t just rage in the streets. This is well-funded, well-planned, and professional.
SPEAKER 06 :
And attempting to infiltrate and occupy federal buildings wearing armor and face shields. The best money can buy somebody’s financing it. We’re going to find out through Pam Bondi and Department of Justice who it is. They’re already on it. Who’s financing all this equipment? Very professional. Under the Trump administration, this anarchy will not stand. We will not allow federal agents to be attacked and we will not allow an American city to be invaded and conquered by a foreign enemy. And that’s what they are.
SPEAKER 05 :
And finally, he closed about the riots with the part that no one in the media wants to admit. All of this, all of this was allowed to happen. As Gavin Newsom is thrashing about, trying to blame President Trump for the riots, what really is happening in Los Angeles is not happening by accident.
SPEAKER 06 :
A lot of those people were let in here by the Biden administration. They just poured right in. They came from prisons. They came from jails from all over the world. They came from mental institutions. They were the leaders of gangs. They were drug lords allowed to come into our country. Their countries threw them out. Their countries would bus them or drive them right to our border and say, go in there. You ever come back, we’re going to kill you. And we got them and we’re getting them out of here. I want to applaud the courage and the strength of the incredible troops who are right now standing guard to protect federal property and personnel and uphold the supremacy of federal law. That’s what they’re doing. They’re protecting our country. ICE agents. They’re protecting the police in Los Angeles. The head of the police in Los Angeles, a good man. I hear a good man. But he was actually saying we really did need this help. It had gotten away from them. It had long gotten away.
SPEAKER 05 :
And we gave it to him. Wow. Patriot. This is just amazing. A speech that that included. Trump’s reference to old glory, to the American flag that so many in the streets of Los Angeles, while waving Mexican and Palestinian flags, burned. Here’s what he said about our flag.
SPEAKER 06 :
And the only flag that will wave triumphant over the streets of Los Angeles is the American flag. So help me God, the American flag is the one that’s going to wave triumphantly over the streets.
SPEAKER 05 :
ABC News anchor and reporter Terry Moran slammed Trump this week on social media. Turns out, well, there’s a lot less tolerance for that sort of thing with mainstream media than there used to be. Look at the Terry Moran saga. It’s a guy who gets suspended from ABC for his posts. I got to read the post. And I was talking to Mark Davis about it this morning. It was kind of wild that this guy, who is supposed to be, I mean, he’s a correspondent and got a big, big wig job over at ABC. And his post, which he deleted, went on a rampage against President Trump and Stephen Miller. He called President Trump a world-class hater. And, I mean, it’s unhinged. I can’t find the full tweet. I’ve got to find it somewhere. All right, here it is. 12.06 a.m. This guy’s tweeting after midnight. 12.06 a.m. The thing about Stephen Miller is not that he is the brains behind Trumpism. Yes, he is one of the people who conceptualizes the impulses of the Trumpist movement and translates them into policy. But that’s not what’s interesting about Miller. It’s not brains. It’s bile. Bile. B-I-L-E. Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred. He’s a world-class hater. You can see this just by looking at him, because you can see that his hatreds are his spiritual nourishment. He eats his hate. This is Terry Moran, not Rachel Maddow. This isn’t, you know, Joy Reid. This is Terry Moran, the national correspondent for ABC News, who just sat down a few weeks ago with a one-on-one interview with Donald Trump. He concluded by saying Trump is a world-class hater, but his hatred is only a means to an end. And that end is his own glorification. That’s his spiritual nourishment. Well, that drew a suspension from ABC News. He’s now under review and has been suspended from his job. And I don’t care about whether he works at ABC or works at NBC or CBS. I don’t care about any of these folks other than wondering why they can’t be objective. Why can’t they be neutral? I don’t know that I could be wrong. This is way before my time, but Edward R. Murrow, was a journalist, a war correspondent, a guy who covered the war over in London, from the rooftops of London, Walter Cronkite. I’m sorry, people didn’t know what he was, a Democrat or a Republican, because regardless of his own political beliefs, he presented the news in a neutral, objective way. Why can’t they do that? Why is everything so one-sided? Even from just a business perspective, don’t you think they would fare better if they presented the news with a degree of neutrality? I mean, Terry Moran, plenty of followers on social media, and he turns around and does that. shattering his credibility with, again, normal people. I keep thinking of the normals. I’m not thinking about the agitators or the leftists or the people that are in the streets rioting and damaging buildings and assaulting cops. I’m talking about normal people. Normal people. So Terry Moran is out at ABC after the network decided to fire him. Meanwhile, back in Los Angeles, protesters clash with police and with regular people just trying to get to work.
SPEAKER 03 :
I was surprised at the way that the police chief was describing all of this. There had been no violence where anybody that was protesting hit anybody, shot anybody, threatened anybody. Nothing has happened.
SPEAKER 05 :
Nothing. There’s no violence at all, Maxine Waters says. Crazy Auntie Maxine, I guess, doesn’t have a TV that works. Evidently, she can’t see any video clips. I saw a clip. There is a confrontation between a smug, sanctimonious, obnoxious, white couple, a man and a woman, blocking a young black woman who I believe has kids in the car, if I’m not mistaken. And she’s trying to get to work. All she wants to do is go to work. And they’ve blocked the streets as part of their stupid protesting in New York City and This clip says it all. This sums up our side versus their side. And you get to choose. You get to decide. You want to pretend there’s no violence going on in Los Angeles? This clip is amazing. I want to send it out to you on our MyPillow text line, and we’ll do that here in just a moment. We’re going to come up with a good keyword. Tracy’s got – my bandwidth is almost out, guys, because there’s so much going on today and I’m trying to keep up. But we’ll send this clip out. You’ve got to see this clip. Again, a young black woman, a bunch of loony protesters are blocking the streets in New York City because I guess they’re mad at the deportation. And so they’re blocking traffic, which is illegal. And this young black woman gets out of her car and pleads with this white couple, please let me go to work. This exchange is so revealing. It says it all about their side and our side.
SPEAKER 02 :
How is this a peaceful protest if there’s nothing to do? No, it’s not. How do you know that white people feel about stopping a black woman from going to work?
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, no. Not work. I care so much.
SPEAKER 02 :
So you don’t care about stopping black people from going to work? Look at this line that you guys are causing. I’m not causing no problems.
SPEAKER 12 :
I’m not trying to. We’re just trying to lead.
SPEAKER 05 :
Smug liberals blocking this young woman from going to work. And the guy looks into the camera because somebody’s recording it on their cell phone. And he looks into the camera. Oh, no. Work. And the smug… woman, the white woman, is saying, no, sorry, you’re not going to work today. You’re not going to go to work. This is peace, she said. That clip, wow. It kind of takes your breath away. Finally, our colleague and friend Charlie Kirk posted his take on the state of the American left. You need to hear it. I want to read this Charlie Kirk post. You know, I’m, again, surrounded by smart people, and Charlie is just a force of nature and has made such a world of difference in this country. He wrote, the Palestinian flag at a Mexican immigration riot is not a bug or a mistake. It’s a primary feature of modern progressivism. Intersectionality is the glue that keeps the global left-wing insurgency together. Intersectionality masquerades as compassion, but at its core, it’s a caste system of victimhood, where identity outranks truth, grievance replaces virtue, and justice no longer serves the common good but kneels to a hierarchy of oppression. In this inverted moral order, truth is subordinate to emotion, merit is condemned as privilege, and justice is not about fairness but about redressing collective wounds, even when the individual is neither guilty nor responsible. Quote, “‘An injustice here is an injustice everywhere. From L.A. to Rafa, there’s one common oppressor, death to the colonial empire.'” This is a battle of chaos versus order, Charlie writes. Civilization versus barbarism. Truth versus delusion. He goes on to write Hamas, La Raza, BLM, they’re all the same. Anti-West, anti-America, anti-capitalism, anti-law. Either civilization will win or we’ll march into the abyss. The West as we know it, the very West as we know it is at stake. He ends this great post by saying, remember, hell has no bottom.
