Well, as usual, there’s a bunch of breaking news today. The Supreme Court handed Trump a big victory in allowing him to fire federal workers. Imagine that. chief executive allowed to fire federal employees within the executive branch. Only Katonji Brown Jackson dissented. That poor woman, she is just getting slammed as being one of the dumbest justices in the history of the entire United States Supreme Court. More on that in just a bit. TSA is ending their take-your-shoes-off policy at many airports around the United States. I’m not trying to sound like an elitist here, but if you’ve got TSA pre-check, you never take your shoes off. I can’t imagine why anybody would ever stand in a line at an airport. There are things that, and I know I’m going to sound like an out-of-touch elitist. I get it. But when I saw Mitt Romney stand in a line behind 100 people years ago in New York City when he flew in to try to kiss the ring of Donald Trump and grovel for a position in the Trump administration, remember that? Mitt Romney flew into an airport in New York and stood in a line behind 100 people rather than taking five seconds to get an Uber. I mean, there’s just stuff available to people who, and I get if you never travel, maybe you don’t know. Mitt Romney, certainly Mitt Romney travels. I’ll never forget him standing in that taxi line. And it really spoke volumes to me about what a dummy he is. Hate to name call, but for crying out loud, you’re going to wait an hour in a line with 100 people to get a taxi cab at JFK when you have a little Uber app and you push a button and the car pulls up in about 30 seconds and it takes you to wherever you want to go? Look, I hate to disparage the taxi cab industry. But Uber has replaced it. You don’t need to stand on a street corner in the rain, flapping your arm, hoping that a taxi picks you up anymore. You got Uber on your app, on your phone. You got the Uber app. So it’s kind of the same with flying. If you fly with any regularity and you don’t have TSA pre-check, you’re a little off. You got a couple of screws loose. I’m joking a little bit here. Maybe you just, I mean, what possible reason could you have for not having TSA pre-check if you fly? Even if you don’t fly that much. For goodness sakes, why would you stand in a line? I don’t know about you. I hate standing in line. I’m an impatient guy. And so I haven’t taken my shoes off to get on an airplane in years. And don’t even get me started on clear. That’s the other one. And I think a lot of people have a distrust of providing any data about yourself to the government. That must be it. I don’t know. I can’t imagine. I mean, do you fly without TSA? Anyway, if you don’t have TSA or Clear or Uber or running water or electricity, don’t worry. You don’t have to take your shoes off anymore. Evidently, the days of taking your shoes off to go through the checkpoint at TSA. Look, there’s a clamoring to get rid of TSA altogether. Now, I don’t know how I feel about that. I don’t think terrorists have given up on hurting us. I’m not sure that’s a good idea. But there’s a lot of people that are calling for the complete abolishment of TSA altogether. We don’t need all those TSA agents. We don’t need all those people checking people at the airport. Huh. You think terrorists have changed their mind about using planes? as lethal weapons? Are we that far removed from 9-11 that we forget what they did and how they did it? I understand balancing national security and safety concerns with our personal liberties and our freedoms. It would be great to just get on a plane. But as I see these more and more articles suggesting that it’s time to say goodbye to TSA. Steer me in the right direction if you feel that way. Because to me, that’s crazy. That is insane. What do you think the first thing the terrorists are going to do if we don’t have any way of checking people for weapons before they get on an airplane? They’re going to repeat 9-11. They’re going to try to fly a plane into some big location of national significance. 800-655-MIKE. What am I missing here? So, again, Christine Nome made the announcement, the shoes-off policy coming to an end. I guess that’s great. Okay. Again, if you’ve got TSA, you never take your shoes off. But if you don’t have TSA, maybe you’ll be relieved because it’s kind of demeaning and weird and kind of gross walking in your stocking feet, marching through, trudging through the metal detector. And this, of course, came after the shoe bomber. Remember the guy after 9-11 that tried to blow up another plane and it fizzled out and he had a bomb in his shoe. So now, apparently, the shoes-off policy, according to TSA and the federal government, is no longer needed. What’s your reaction to that? And what’s your reaction to the narrative that we ought to get rid of TSA altogether? I’d kind of like not to be sitting on a plane next to, you know, Abdul the butcher who wants to blow us to kingdom come. because he’s got a bomb with him. Or a gun. And he’s going to overtake the flight attendants and kill them and kill the pilots, just like they did that horrific day in 2001. Give me your thoughts on it. 800-655-MIKE. Live view of New York City if you’re watching on Salem News Channel. Beautiful skyline, which of course was changed forever when terrorists flew planes into the Twin Towers, the World Trade Center. Now, of course, there’s the giant majestic Freedom Tower in its place next to the 9-11 Memorial. We sure don’t want that to happen again. TSA is ending the shoes-off policy at airports across the United States. It seems to me, as Alpharetta Georgia just texted me on the MyPillow text line, the world is getting more dangerous. They know they can get away with anything. We must stay alert, keep TSA, and find more ways of safety, not less. And what my concern is, is this announcement of ending the shoes-off policy has unleashed a narrative that we should get rid of TSA altogether, and I’m not quite sure I follow the argument. I think it has something to do with the cost, perhaps. But TSA, I don’t think, is in the Doge crosshairs. I’m not real sure our federal government should begin to soften security screening at our nation’s airports. Should it all be privatized? Should the airlines absorb the cost? What happened to those air marshals? Are there still air marshals on planes? That was a big thing after 9-11. So give me your reaction to this whole announcement that TSA is ending the shoes-off policy. We’ll start with Ted in Pittsburgh. No, like I say, why stop something that’s working? Okay, I appreciate it. I have to admit, even as a frequent flyer, though, I’m a little confused. Since people with TSA don’t have to take their shoes off, what’s the difference? You’re going through the same magnetometer. Let me bring Eric Hansen into this conversation for a minute. Eric, come over here for just a second. I want to ask you that question. You travel a pretty good amount of time. You and Gina and the girls like to tour the world. You are often an international traveler.
SPEAKER 03 :
I do sometimes travel, yes.
SPEAKER 13 :
All right. Why do people with – you have TSA, I presume, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
I have global – what is it, global entry?
SPEAKER 13 :
Global entry. That’s for international coming back. But you don’t have – do you have TSA?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I have pre-check also. That’s part of global access, yeah, or global entry.
SPEAKER 13 :
Right, TSA pre-check. Right. So why do you and I not have to take our shoes off, but people without TSA PreCheck do?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, because we all went for that special little interview at Newark Airport for five minutes going, ah, you look okay. Yeah, you have it.
SPEAKER 13 :
Yeah, you’re not a terrorist.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you don’t look like a terrorist to me.
SPEAKER 13 :
You’re good. You’re good to go. But that is the difference, right, that they feel like they’ve connected with you and they’ve pre-screened you in advance, and therefore maybe we won’t have a bomb in our shoe.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. I mean, global entry, as you know, is a little bit of a rigmarole, but once you do it, then you kind of have it. And I’m assuming as long as you don’t cause any trouble after that, that you can always have it.
SPEAKER 13 :
Right. Well, global entry is another level. TSA is different. That’s domestic, right? Global entry is for international travel.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. You have to have pre-check before you do global entry. So when you do one, you have both.
SPEAKER 13 :
And now with global entry, although I don’t even know that it’s necessarily a global entry thing, have you noticed how efficient it is to scan your passport and get not only into a country but come back into the United States? There’s like nobody there anymore.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, yes. It’s funny, actually, because I have global entry, but my wife does not. So we were traveling internationally earlier this year, and we had to wait in a long line because I wasn’t going to go through global entry and then go sit on a bench waiting for her to go through customs. So I was just sort of longingly looking at all the people who were just whisking through global entry while we stood in a long line. Yeah, it’s easy.
SPEAKER 13 :
It’s crazy. The last time I flew international, I forget coming back, I think from Mexico, although now Americans aren’t welcome in Mexico. More on that story in just a moment. But the last time I flew back in, I came into the to the customs area. And I just had to scan my passport, and there wasn’t a person. You know how they normally check you at customs and say, now it’s all done electronically.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, and you see that actually overseas a bunch, too, where there’s these big plazas with machines, and you just go through and scan your… The UK. Yeah.
SPEAKER 13 :
They have it over in England, too. All right. I appreciate it. Thank you, sir. Jeff in Orlando. Jeff, you know many TSA agents. What do you think is behind the reversal of the no-shoes policy?
SPEAKER 04 :
So I’ll tell you what. I fly quite a bit of miles a year for work, mostly domestic, about $500,000. I’m coming out of Orlando, very busy airport, Disney World during the summer. And unfortunately, what really stands with me is this might just be a cause du jour for the current administration. I like a lot of what they’ve done, but technology has not gotten worse since they tried to plant ceramic weapons or shoe bombs into sneakers and that. It’s gotten better. So, unfortunately, on this one decision, I’m going to have to defer to not agreeing because what happens when someone decides, hey, this is a great idea, it’s an invitation for us to come do this, and then the policy will go back.
SPEAKER 13 :
Then they’ll revert to it again. You’re right. As soon as there’s another incident, heaven forbid, then they’ll go back to what they were doing before they loosened the standards. And again, technology has not gotten worse.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s gotten better since this happened. Yeah, but wait a minute.
SPEAKER 13 :
But if the technology is better, doesn’t that help the argument that we don’t need to do as much, like take off our shoes?
SPEAKER 04 :
And by that, I mean technology’s gotten better on both sides of the coin. It’s gotten better to deter, but it’s also gotten better to attack.
SPEAKER 13 :
I see what you mean. I got it. I got what you’re saying. All right, Jeff. Drive safe. Glad you called. Thanks. Look, I don’t know. Somebody just texted from Winter Park, Florida. There’s no evidence that TSA has foiled any terrorist attempts. Look, we’ll see what happens. I just don’t know that it’s a great idea to be less safe in the skies than we used to be. And just some truly awful, awful people. who are trying to score points off the deaths of all of these innocent victims. Stacey Abrams last night on ABC.

The fact that they slashed the National Weather Service, whether or not that was the direct proximate cause of those deaths. The fact that we’re having that conversation is the issue. The fact that we aren’t sure is the problem. And so we need to hold to what we deserve. We should not be dissuaded, especially as black women, as women of color, as people of color. We should not be convinced that we don’t have power.

Can you imagine going on a national talk show? Is that Jimmy Kimmel? I don’t know. I guess it’s ABC, all I got on my sheet. And you say, oh, the Trump budget cuts and as black women, we should… Who’s talking about black women? And when she says the fact that we’re having the dialogue is… Well, we’re having the dialogue because you’re having the dialogue. You’re the one bringing it up. You’re the one making it an issue. We’re not. Hugh Hewitt, frequent Fox News Channel contributor, had a reaction to this last night.

She’s not dumb. She went to Yale Law School. She knows what proximate cause is. She wedged this attack on the National Weather Service into a book tour promotion. It’s despicable. It’s below despicable. She hit the floor and she fell off of it. What Stacey Abrams did, and it’s expected from her, is whatever would get them on television or sell books, respectively. It’s despicable. It’s got to end. I don’t think it’s going to anytime soon. But the more that we call out despicable conduct, it’s just that the better off we are.

I’m kidding. It’s a crazy story. I know. She was accused of striking her… Boston cop boyfriend with the car in the middle of a blizzard outside these these cops house. And it was all about supposedly police corruption and a cover up. And she didn’t do it. And she had all these followers and these fans. She got off. And so whatever happened to the guy, we’ll never know. And what her defense claims is that his cop buddies beat him to death in the house and threw his body out on the snow, which seems kind of weird.

Maybe we all watch too much TV. Well, they were all drunk. Can’t forensics tell the difference between somebody who’s been clocked to death in a house and somebody who’s been run over by a car?
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, that’s just it. I mean, he had these, like, claw marks on his arm, like bite marks. And the family had a German shepherd that they mysteriously got rid of. It’s a great, Karen Reid, I think it’s called A Man in the Snow or Body in the Snow. I geeked out on documentaries over the weekend. I did that.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, I got something in World of Fiction right back for you since this seems to be your wheelhouse, sort of police procedural dramas. There will be a barrier for you because you’ve got to work your way through some thing. thick Scottish accents.

I don’t like accents.

It’s Netflix. It’s a thing called Department Q. A dysfunctional British cop working in Edinburgh, Scotland is assigned a room full of cold cases and that just sounds like whatever. But the case they have, I’m two, three episodes in. We’re loving it. Department Q on Netflix. Masterpiece. But literally, you’ve got to fire up the subtitles because you’ve got characters going, Exactly.
SPEAKER 13 :
And my kids are mad at me that I haven’t gotten into squid game. That apparently is a big thing still.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay. Have you done zero squid game? A little bit of it. And I’m like, I don’t know. Like from the beginning? Was it too weird from you from the jump?

Yeah, from the jump.

It was just real strange. It only gets weirder. I kind of dig it. where they’re about to wrap it up. I feel like I’ve got to finish it now. It’s so bizarre. It is art of some consequence. It’s pretty amazing.

Well, here’s one final one. My mom, Jane. You know the woman that is on Law & Order, Mariska Hargitay?

Oh, yep. Target. Right. Jane Mansfield’s daughter.
SPEAKER 13 :
Her mother is was Jane Mansfield. Right. But she had a tumultuous relationship with her. And it’s a whole thing. And if there’s more twists in this doc, it’s a fascinating documentary because she wanted me to get to that. Incidentally, she is like this crazy high-paid woman. She’s been on Law & Order for like 100 years. Yep. And she makes like gazillions. She’s one of the highest-paid actors in the world for that role because she’s like the franchise, I guess. I’ve never really gotten into it as Law & Order, but I saw them once taping it outside my apartment, filming it out in New York City. They film in New York, and she lives there. Anyway, her mother was Jane Mansfield, who was killed in a car crash, incidentally. Yep. Urban legend. She was not decapitated.
SPEAKER 12 :
No, I know exactly.
SPEAKER 13 :
That’s really a myth.
SPEAKER 12 :
Mama Cass did not die from a hand sandwich and Jane Mansfield was not decapitated.
SPEAKER 13 :
But she wanted to learn about her mom. And what’s so crazy is the way you find out about… who she thought was her father. I don’t want to give too much away. Watch it, Mark. You’ll love it. It’s lovingly done, and she’s great, this Mariska, who’s really Maria, but she became Mariska because of the stepfather. It’s a whole thing there.

And I thought this, even watching some episodes of Law & Order, they’re just a little show note, and people can examine photographs. Separated at birth. Not separated at birth. I don’t know. You know who Mariska Hargitay looks exactly like? Who? Rhonda. Oh, she does. You’re right. Do a little side-by-side of that. She does look like Rhonda. Mariska Hargitay. Have they ever been seen in the same room? See? She’s got a secret life.
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, they’re both beautiful women. All right. I reposted something that is making the rounds. I hate to start on a… Sad note, but it informs who we are as a people. There’s an oil painting that is so heartbreaking. And somebody wrote, this is what I imagine it looked like in heaven early in the morning of July 4th. And it’s a picture of a smiling Jesus Christ. embracing little girls with Camp Mystic t-shirts on. And it’s so, it just, it hits hard, Mark. It’s just so powerful. Greg Abbott has been just masterful. and the way he has sort of denounced the finger-pointing and the blame game. He said, look, we’re Texans. We’re going to find every one of these poor souls. Mark, they still have, like I said, 160 missing lives.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, the death toll is at roughly 110. It could more than double because there’s nearly 170 people who have not yet been found. Oh, Mark.
SPEAKER 13 :
I mean, and it’s just one of the worst nightmares. A lot of these children, the sisters found wrapped with their arms around each other. And it’s just horrifying. These families will never, ever be the same.
SPEAKER 12 :
You know what I’m painting on the painting real quick. And it’s funny because you is it sad? Of course it is. I think people do that. If I had any kind of gift of art. It’s the kind of thing I think I might do. I mean, a lot of times when famous people die, when Christopher Reeve died, they showed somebody flying out of a wheelchair and going up to go be with God. I think it’s kind of therapeutic or cathartic for the artist, but also as just as you described it, I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ll now go look for it. I think it’s beautiful. It is. It reminds us… Because it happened. It did. Because it happened. Those little girls are in the loving arms of God today as we speak, and their joy knows no bounds.
SPEAKER 13 :
And let me describe the painting, because Jesus has this beaming smile. He’s got one of the girls. He’s wrapped his arms around one of the little girls. They have Camp Mystic t-shirts on. And the other… There’s three girls in the painting, and the other two girls… have these beautiful expressions of excitement, of joy, of relief. You know, I mean, you think about their last moments on earth and how hard that was for them and the terror they experienced. But then they experienced the redemption and the joy and the love of our Savior. And it is a beautiful painting. I mean, I don’t know who did it. It’s just beautiful. And I’m telling you, as sad as all of this is, it reminds us, it informs us of what we believe as Christians, what we know to be true, that when we lose our loved ones, yeah, we’re sad and we’re just so traumatized by their loss. And certainly Kerrville is traumatized right now. But if we can remember that right now those little girls are in eternal peace and happiness and joy, You’re right. It’s a beautiful, beautiful thing. And the reunion is going to be awesome. I just texted it to you. Pick up your phone. I want you to see it because it’s going to hit you hard. I promise. It is just one of the most beautiful things ever. And see their faces? See the expression, Mark? I mean, it’s just… And that’s what we believe. You want a real documentary? How many dead bodies are in it? Yep. Man in the Snow. The Karen Reid story. The three-part or five-part or whatever it is about Karen Reid.

They got a documentary about this already? Oh, yeah. Well, because she’s been tried twice. You need to keep up. Come on. I know, I know. So Karen Reid, it’s a crazy story. She was accused of striking her Boston cop boyfriend with the car in the middle of a blizzard outside these cops’ house, and it was all about supposedly police corruption and a cover-up, and she didn’t do it, and she had all these followers and these fans, and she got off. And so whatever happened to the guy, we’ll never know. And what her defense claims is that his cop buddies beat him to death in the house and threw his body out on the snow, which seems kind of weird.
SPEAKER 12 :
They all watch too much TV, but wouldn’t forensics tell the difference between somebody who’s been caught to death in a house and somebody who’s been run over by a car?
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, that’s just it. I mean, he had these, like, claw marks on his arm, like bite marks, and the family had a German shepherd that they mysteriously got rid of. I’m telling you, the whole thing is, it’s a great, Karen Reid, I think it’s called A Man in the Snow or Body in the Snow. I geeked out on documentaries over the weekend. I did that.
SPEAKER 12 :
The world of fiction right back for you, since this seems to be your wheelhouse sort of police procedural dramas will be a barrier for you because you’ve got to work your way through some thick Scottish accents. I don’t like accents. It’s Netflix. It’s a thing called Department Q. that a dysfunctional uh british cop working in edinburgh scotland uh is is assigned a room full of cold cases and that just sounds like whatever but the case they have i’m two three episodes in we’re loving it department q on netflix masterpiece but literally you’re gonna fire up this the the the subtitles because you got characters going well i got a
SPEAKER 13 :
And my kids are mad at me that I haven’t gotten into Squid Game. That apparently is a big thing still.
SPEAKER 12 :
You’ve done zero Squid Game? A little bit of it, and I’m like, I don’t know.
SPEAKER 13 :
Was it too weird for you from the jump? Yeah, from the jump. It was just real strange.

It only gets weirder. I kind of dig it. They’re about to wrap it up. I feel like I’ve got to finish now. It’s so bizarre. It is art. Some consequence. It’s pretty amazing. Well, here’s one.

Final one. My mom, Jane. You know the woman that is on Law & Order, Mariska Hargitay?
SPEAKER 12 :
Jane Mansfield’s daughter.
SPEAKER 13 :
So her mother was Jane Mansfield. But she had a tumultuous relationship with her. And it’s a whole thing. And there’s more twists in this. It’s a fascinating documentary. Incidentally, she is like this crazy, high-paid woman. She’s been on Law & Order for like 100 years. And she makes like gazillions. She’s one of the highest paid actors in the world for that role because she’s like the franchise, I guess. I’ve never really gotten into it as long. But I saw them once taping it outside my apartment, filming it out in New York City. They film in New York and she lives there. Anyway, her mother was Jane Mansfield who was killed in a car crash, incidentally. Urban legend. She was not decapitated.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’s apparently a myth.
SPEAKER 13 :
But she wanted to learn about her mom, and what’s so crazy is the way you find out about who she thought was her father. I don’t want to give too much away. Watch it, Mark. You’ll love it. It’s lovingly done, and she’s great, this Mariska, who’s really Maria, but she became Mariska because of the stepfather. It’s a whole thing there.
SPEAKER 12 :
I’ve been watching some episodes of Law & Order. They’re just a little show note and people can examine photographs. Separated at birth. Not separated at birth. I don’t know. You know who Mariska Hargitay looks exactly like? Who? Ronda. Oh, she does. You’re right. Side by side of that. She does look like Ronda. Yeah. You’re right.
SPEAKER 13 :
Have they ever been in the same room? Uh-huh. See? She’s got a secret life. Well, they’re both beautiful women. All right. I reposted something that is making the rounds. I hate to start on a… Sad note, but it informs who we are as a people. There’s an oil painting that is so heartbreaking. And somebody wrote, this is what I imagine it looked like in heaven early in the morning of July 4th. And it’s a picture of a smiling Jesus Christ. embracing little girls with Camp Mystic t-shirts on. And it’s so, it just, it hits hard, Mark. It’s just so powerful. Greg Abbott has been just masterful and the way he has sort of denounced the finger-pointing and the blame game. He said, look, we’re Texans. We’re going to find every one of these poor souls. Mark, they still have, like I said, 160 missing bodies?
SPEAKER 12 :
The death toll is at roughly 110. It could more than double because there’s nearly 170 people who have not yet been killed.
SPEAKER 13 :
Oh, Mark. I mean, and it’s just one of the worst nightmares ever. A lot of these children, the sisters found wrapped with their arms around each other. And it’s just horrifying. These families will never, ever be the same.
SPEAKER 12 :
Real quick. And it’s funny because you is it sad? Of course it is. I think people do that. If I had any kind of gift of art, it’s the kind of thing I think I might do. I mean, a lot of times when famous people die, when Christopher Reeve died, they showed somebody flying out of a wheelchair and going up to go be with God. I think it’s kind of therapeutic or cathartic for the artist. But also, just as you described it, I haven’t seen it yet, but I’ll now go look for it. I think it’s beautiful. It is. It reminds us. Because it happened. Because it did. Those little girls are in the loving arms of God today as we speak. No bounds.
SPEAKER 13 :
And let me describe the painting because Jesus has this beaming smile. He’s got one of the girls. He’s wrapped his arms around one of the little girls. They have Camp Mystic t-shirts on. And there’s three girls in the painting. And the other two girls have these beautiful expressions of excitement, of joy, of relief. You know, I mean, you think about their lives. their last moments on earth and how hard that was for them and the terror they experienced. But then they experienced the redemption and the joy and the love of our Savior. And it is a beautiful painting. I mean, I don’t know who did it. It’s just beautiful. And I’m telling you, as sad as all of this is, it reminds us, it informs us of what we believe as Christians, what we know to be true, that when we lose our loved ones, yeah, we’re sad and we’re just so traumatized by their loss. And certainly Kerrville is traumatized right now. But if we can remember that right now those little girls are in eternal peace and happiness and joy, you’re right. It’s a beautiful, beautiful thing.
