Join John Rush and Andy Pate in this enlightening episode as they unravel the intricacies of a Moab vacation. Andy returns with tales that starkly contrast the exceptional service of places like Sedona, sharing how expectations can differ across tourist spots. Their conversation naturally branches into trivia, where France emerges as a leader with the most time zones. The duo maintains their engaging style, threading between trivia and travel stories. Further, the episode takes a cinematic turn as they dissect ‘Heads of State,’ pointing out the challenges in balancing entertainment with the movie’s political undertones. The review navigates through
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s finally Friday on Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. So I tell him I’m a pro jack. And who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama himself. So we finish 18 and he’s going to sniff me. And I say, hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know. And he says, oh, it won’t be any money. And when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness. So I got that going. And movie reviews with Andy Payne.
SPEAKER 14 :
I think that you got the wrong impression about me. I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do.
SPEAKER 15 :
What I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
SPEAKER 12 :
Jim Ray, what do you want to do tonight?
SPEAKER 08 :
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world. Stick a fork in me, Jerry. I’m done.
SPEAKER 06 :
Now, here is your host of Rush to Reason, John Rush.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right, it’s Friday. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Myself, Andy Pate, Charlie Grimes. Andy’s back from vacation, so did you have a good trip?
SPEAKER 06 :
I had a good trip. I really enjoyed it. Yeah, Corey and I went to Moab.
SPEAKER 03 :
Utah?
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, yeah. We wanted to look at Arches National Park and see all the incredible rock formations. Corey and I have been trying to go to a place we haven’t been to every year.
SPEAKER 03 :
Very cool.
SPEAKER 06 :
And it was a lot of fun. But I got to tell you, there was an incredible eye-opening experience when it comes to customer service. And I know you were talking about this yesterday in Mexico.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 06 :
Where you go to the resorts and they have just wonderful service.
SPEAKER 03 :
They do.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 03 :
They know their customer.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, they know where their bread is buttoned. And they appreciate that. Now, as you know, I went to Sedona. last year right or i’m sorry earlier this year phenomenal food everywhere we went every restaurant the food was better than denver wow the service was much better than denver it was just wonderful a great experience and i mean it’s like four or five places so after a while it’s like you know this is more than coincidence is the norm yeah well moab
SPEAKER 03 :
Not that way, huh?
SPEAKER 06 :
No. Huge drop off. Now, there were a couple of places and it was interesting. A couple of places were pretty good, but these were foreign places. OK, so you had a Thai place that had pretty good food, pretty good service, and you had a Mediterranean place. Same thing. OK, they the other places we went. Some of the worst, I mean, the food wasn’t good. We went out for barbecue. And really quick here, the first place we went to, we went there and it’s dead. It’s like four in the afternoon, right? We figured, yeah, we’ll get in early. We’re pretty hungry. And they’ve got like three or four, girls talking around the podium which is fine it’s dead of the day right and they and they come in and it takes them a while to notice us when they do um you know what would you like would you like to be seated in the bar or in the dining area i said oh whatever’s easiest for you guys and they couldn’t tell us i said tell you what we’ll go in the bar sounds great
SPEAKER 03 :
We’ll make the decision.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, we’ll make that. I’ll make that call for you. I know it’s a tough one.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
And so I walked in. So Corey and I, we walk in there. We sit down. Now, you know when a place is dead, five minutes feels like an eternity. Well, it was over five minutes. Still no menus, no water. Nobody. Nobody paid any attention to us. The bartender’s in there. He sees us. He doesn’t care. Nobody cares. And I mean, they’re all out front talking. We finally were just like, you know… And we walked out. We just said, you know, we got to go eat somewhere else. We went to another barbecue place, and they were much better in the service, but the food wasn’t very good. It was cold or, you know, semi-cold, not that hot. And I’m just like, wow. We went to – and I’m not going to bore you with all the tales, but we went to several places. Oh, there was one ice cream place. There was a girl in there. She’s working. She’s alone. It’s pretty dead, okay, even though it’s over 100 degrees. And the trash bins are overflowing. She has nothing to do. It’s one of these self-serve places, right? All she has to do is empty it. She’s just sitting there. Doing absolutely nothing. It’s not because she has a row of people coming up who need to pay. And I’m just like, John, we saw this over and over and over and over again. Moab has unbelievably bad service and the food isn’t very good. The food didn’t wow us anywhere. I’m telling you what, the drop off from Sedona to Moab was like a cliff. Why is this? I don’t know.
SPEAKER 03 :
That one I have no idea, Andy. It makes no sense.
SPEAKER 06 :
I mean, come on. You’re the business expert.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, it ought to be the same. You know, Moab’s just as touristy, quote, unquote. They rely on that as much as anybody else does that’s in that, you know, type of an environment. Why wouldn’t you cater to your people, especially this time of year?
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I don’t understand.
SPEAKER 03 :
This is the height of the season.
SPEAKER 06 :
We’re there. We have money pouring out of the old wallets. We’re ready.
SPEAKER 03 :
Andy, I don’t know. Blew my mind. Anytime that happens, I just think to myself, why?
SPEAKER 06 :
But anyway, had a great time. Everything was beautiful. I’m glad you had a great trip, too. So we are back.
SPEAKER 03 :
Awesome. All right. Question of the day. Yesterday, which country has the most time zones? Believe it or not, the answer is France with 12 time zones. That includes their overseas territories. Believe it or not, they beat us and Russia out by one each. We have 11. So does Russia.
SPEAKER 06 :
France.
SPEAKER 03 :
France.
SPEAKER 06 :
I didn’t know they still had territories.
SPEAKER 03 :
I guess they, yeah, I guess so. French Polynesia, places like that, I guess.
SPEAKER 06 :
See, I thought these days that’s just a name. So they really have territories.
SPEAKER 03 :
I guess they still have them, yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
Good to know.
SPEAKER 03 :
So there you go. Today’s impossible question of the day. Name the lake in Australia that has pink water. Name the lake in Australia that has pink water. So there’s your question of the day.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right.
SPEAKER 03 :

SPEAKER 06 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Denver’s Afternoon Rush. KLZ 560. John Rush. Together with Andy Pate. And John! Are you ready for a movie? Absolutely. All right, John. Well, before we even jump into that, I guess you got a text.
SPEAKER 03 :
That agreed with everything you said about Utah.
SPEAKER 1 :
Really?
SPEAKER 03 :
That they never come back from Utah thinking, wow, that was a great experience. I’ll tell you what. Which I don’t understand. That shouldn’t be that way.
SPEAKER 06 :
Corey and I, it was just breathtaking. A lot of views we had there. We did all kinds of hiking. It was a lot of fun. And we never want to go back.
SPEAKER 03 :
Isn’t that amazing?
SPEAKER 06 :
It was the worst. The only times we’ve had service that was that bad were Southern California and Vermont. Now, Moab also is very liberal, as you were saying. So, I don’t know. Do you think there’s a trend here?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes, I do.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right. Well, let’s jump into the movies. John, can two world leaders survive an attack when they can’t stand each other? Let’s find out in Heads of State.
SPEAKER 09 :
We just survived the worst security breach in history. The cavalry’s coming.
SPEAKER 15 :
So keep calm and carry on.
SPEAKER 09 :
Hey, fellas, how’s it going?
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah. We’re about to get our asses kicked, man. Read the room.
SPEAKER 14 :
A lot of people want you dead.
SPEAKER 03 :
My mission is to deliver you to the most secure location on this continent.
SPEAKER 09 :
Where’s your backup?
SPEAKER 07 :
There is no backup.
SPEAKER 09 :
What’s the playbook on this? There is no damn playbook. Let’s make one. Not in the movies now, son. Who’s the action hero now?
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, John. John Cena and Idris Elba, they star as U.S. President Will Derringer and U.K. Prime Minister Sam Clark. Derringer is an ex-actor action star who is dumb and incompetent but popular. Clark is a rags-to-riches ex-military Brit who lives for the people but isn’t liked. The two are at odds because Clark dissed Derringer during his campaign, so Derringer is still very upset about this. But now they must work together, John, and rebuild the alliance, all in an effort to save NATO, which is falling apart. So Derringer and Clark play nice. But unbeknownst to them, evil forces are operating behind the scenes looking to take the two leaders out. Why? Well, it all has to do with politics, as these two leaders are too pro-NATO, and isolationists believe NATO should disband and stay out of our affairs. Hmm.
SPEAKER 07 :
Interesting.
SPEAKER 06 :
I kind of side with them. Well, before long, multiple attacks are launched to kill them, and a frustrating theme emerges. Derringer plays an action hero, but Clark is a trained soldier for real. Pitching is an agent with whom Clark has a history. She’s named Noelle, played by Priyanka Chopra. She’s done a lot of things. She’s a super weapon, able to kick and kill and fight her way through almost anything. But Noel’s greatest challenge is getting the two bickering heads of state to get along because, well, Derringer, he has big muscles but not much skill. Clark is the real warrior. This is awkward, John, because Derringer is used to being treated as the action hero. But he’s not in this situation. He’s the actor. And the other guy is the guy who actually knows how to handle himself. Okay. And there’s, let’s face it, there’s a little bit of ego going on between them because of that. So now they’re all on the run trying to figure out who is trying to kill them and how they can save the world for peace. But can they win peace without liking each other? And that is the story of Heads of State.
SPEAKER 03 :
Previews look good.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, previews look good. Sounds good. Okay, here we go. What works in Heads of State? Well, first of all, Jack Quaid, he’s been in a number of things. By the way, he was the star of Novocaine. which still might be my best movie of the year. It’s definitely top two or three. And he has a small role. He’s Marty Comer, and he’s this geeky agent operating a safe house. And when they have to go there because they’re running on the run, he is just very funny. He’s very funny. He does the action great. He does the humor great. He does his role great. And he just breathes so much life into the movie. So that was really cool. Okay, what else works in Heads of State?
SPEAKER 03 :
Nada.
SPEAKER 06 :
Nada. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Nothing. Awful. Awful. Just awful. And by the way, this movie’s on Amazon Prime.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
And it shows. Have you noticed, though, that a lot of these movies, most of these movies that are released on Netflix or Amazon Prime just aren’t very good?
SPEAKER 03 :
Sometimes that’s the case. Sometimes it surprises you. It all depends.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. Sometimes it does. There have been times, and I’ve told you times, where I was really surprised. I was like, hey, this is actually very good.
SPEAKER 03 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 06 :
But most of the time that isn’t the case, and I think it has something to do with budgets. I’m not sure.
SPEAKER 03 :
Could be.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right. What doesn’t work in heads of state? Well, let’s get this out of the way, John. Heads of state is the most one-sided piece of leftist propaganda I’ve seen in years.
SPEAKER 03 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, oh, it rivals the feminism of Barbie and the racism of 40 acres. OK, this thing is just hard left. And I mean, it’s mean the chief villain is America first.
SPEAKER 03 :
The chief villain.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yes. NATO is good. The white American president is stupid and incompetent. Well, the black British prime minister is good and super skilled. The woman of color is a complete badass. One black woman is supposedly evil, but that is laughable. Given the obvious woke and anti-MAGA agenda, you know it’s not going to pan out that way. And they have a white guy in there who’s also evil. Everything is paint by the numbers. multiculturalism it is ridiculous it is like you think that these people went from making commercials which always depict anyone even who could possibly be on the right right or white male or whatever as the stupid or dumb one and everybody else is smart and whatever i mean it was just over the top with us now this is a classic example of what happens when everyone involved in the film is solely committed to preaching agenda What falls apart? Entertainment, right? Because they don’t care. You can’t be in, you can’t be there to convey a message. and really entertain people at the same time. It’s very difficult. I guess it can be done. It’s so rare. John Cena and Idris Elba are, of course, two very, very, very left-wing guys. These are intense left-wing guys, and apparently they were very much into doing this movie. Priyanka Chopra, same thing. Just a bunch of lefties getting there to take their shots at the right. The script is barely funny at all. Let’s just look at the quality here. It’s not funny. And you would think it’s going to be funny. Cena’s a funny guy. Elba’s a terrific actor, you would think. And he can do humor. And you would think, man, this buddy-buddy, they’re sick of each other thing. They can play off each other really well. That’s got to be an easy script to write. I mean, you can’t miss on this. Okay, they have a few moments. They have a few moments. But really, it’s not very good at all. It’s just not funny. With stupid quips that rarely hit, the action is generally ridiculous. The CGI looks cheap, John. You can tell, boy, this was not made with that $150 million budget. Nothing like that. The woman, she outfights big guys. And it just looks stupid. The strained buddy-buddy bickering, it feels as fake as everything on a Kardashian. Okay, I mean, it’s just phony. You can tell they’re faking it. They’re forcing it. We are at odds, and therefore we must bicker and act like we don’t like each other. So we will act like we don’t like each other. Okay, do I move here now? Okay, now I’ll do this. Okay, now hand gesture, hand gesture. It was so stiff. This is comedy Botox. Oh, gosh. Horribly predictable. By the way, my wife watched this with me. So, you know, she’s contacting a lawyer. The marriage is over. I should never have put her through this. Is that bad? Yeah. Maybe three or four chick flicks. I think I can get her back. I’m working on it. The moment a character is so predictable, the moment a character is described as America first, you instantly know who’s the villain. There’s no mystery at all. It’s like blaming Trump for a flood. You know what’s going to come. You absolutely know what’s going to come. So the rest of the movie is totally done. And it’s awful. Ultimately, while the entertainment quality is low from the start, the biggest killer is a complete lack of objectivity. This wrecked any hope of mystery, tension, or surprise. You know, it’s not just that I’m sitting here watching this, John. And, oh, gee, I’m a right wing guy, so I’m all offended because this is all left wing and I’m right wing. No, it’s not just that. You know, I separate that out and then talk quality separate. The problem is by doing it so hard line, they made everything predictable. I want a little mystery. I need a little bit of who done it. Right. Or who’s going to done it. Right. You know, and there isn’t any. They just kill it. Right. And oh, just awful. OK, one last thing. And I mean this. This needs to end Priyanka Chopra’s career while crippling the other two. The other two need to have little to do going forward. When you put yourself into something like this, a mess like this, you need to pay for it. I’m sorry, but you really do. She has been on a downward slide anyway. She has not been doing good stuff. Priyanka Chopra used to be just this hot thing that everybody wanted to see in the next film. She’s done. Okay, she has made bust after bomb after bust after bomb. Obviously, the other two, Cena has never been an actor, but he’s always been likable and funny.
SPEAKER 03 :
He’s been funny.
SPEAKER 06 :
Idris Elba is an actor, and he’s terrific, but he hasn’t really been on a roll either. And so I look at those two, and I say, look, you two should be crippled in your careers for this, and you need to come back with something good. Your next movie had better not be bad, okay, after this. Priyanka Chopra, I think you’re done.
SPEAKER 03 :
I think she’s got… Yeah, I don’t see a movie that really I even recognize that she’s made in the last several years.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I mean, the last one that I saw that she was good in that was really good was Isn’t It Romantic? Okay? And that’s made by a bunch of left-wingers, gay-themed and everything, and it’s a great movie, really a funny movie, so that’s fine. But she’s done nothing good since then, just awful. I think she’s done… Okay, Rotten Tomatoes, of course. pumps this up, and they gave it 70%. I am telling you, that is pure politics. There is no way, no way a bunch of these paid movie critics from around the country who do this for a living, John, could look at this and say, who watch movies every week and look at all the stylistics and all the writing and the directing and the producing, and there’s no way they could look at this and say, gee, that’s quality. Not possible. I’m telling you, this is why you need to separate out the quality from the politics, which I do. This thing was a .5 star. I’m giving it a half star. Why am I giving you a half star, Jack Quaid? Who, by the way, is a big star. I was really surprised. I guess it’s just because he’s a lefty. And he’s a hard lefty, and he’s Dennis Quaid’s son, though, which kind of blows my mind. Yeah, it is. Maybe he isn’t a total lefty. I don’t know. But he was the only good thing in this, and because of him, I’m going to give it a half star.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
Nothing else. Political, negative 10. On a scale of 1 to 5, I’m giving it a negative 10 stars. For political. More Religious 3 didn’t say a thing, and that’s fine. Folks, Heads of State is on Amazon Prime, so if you have Amazon, it’s free. That’s too much. That’s charging too much because there’s the time quotient. Your time is important to you. Do not waste it on this movie. Find anything else. Find the all-commercial channel.
SPEAKER 03 :
Watch something else.
SPEAKER 06 :
Just be happy.
SPEAKER 03 :
Veteran Windows and Doors is up next, and Dave would love to help you with your window and door needs. There’s an Energy Star rating change possibly coming at the beginning of the year, which will have a negative effect, by the way, on what we can buy and install in our homes here in Colorado. Find out more from Dave on that. Just go to klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 05 :
Veteran Windows and Doors is committed to installing only the right windows and doors engineered specifically for your Colorado home. Every product they install is energy certified, code compliant, and carefully chosen for our unique climate and elevation. Here’s the truth. Federal regulations are written for the entire country, not for homes at Colorado’s high altitude. And those blanket rules, they can actually increase your carbon footprint, not reduce it. Windows that aren’t made for our elevation let in more heat, force your AC to work harder, and drive up your energy bills. Other companies will try to sell you windows that meet the new Department of Energy and EPA standards going into effect this January. Those windows won’t work properly here. Veteran Windows and Doors will make sure you get sustainable, efficient windows that are truly right for your home before the new laws kick in. Find Veteran Windows and Doors at klzradio.com.

The best export we have is common sense. You’re listening to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 06 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John. Are you ready for a superhero movie?
SPEAKER 03 :
Hopefully better than this last one.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, as the old saying goes, you can’t fall off the floor, John. It can’t get worse. Okay, can a superhero save superhero movies? Okay. Seriously, John, that is a big question that a lot of people had going into this. In fact, there are two big stories about this next movie. Number one, how woke is it? And we’ll talk about that later on. But also, can this movie restart the MCU? Can it restart these superhero movies and bring them back because they have been on a downward trend? You’ve heard all about this, right? Well, one can only hope it can with Superman.
SPEAKER 10 :
The world’s changing, Clark. And the questions are getting louder. Is the Superman threat?
SPEAKER 04 :
Superman requires immediate action.
SPEAKER 05 :
First spotted about seven feet tall, but it has been growing. People were going to die!
SPEAKER 09 :
My father once told me, it’s not about what you can do, Clark. It’s about what you choose to do. That’s why I choose to protect this world.
SPEAKER 08 :
Are you ready? Hell yeah. Everyone has a weakness. All we have to do is find it.
SPEAKER 09 :
Luther is going to hurt people. I have to stop him.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right, John, sound good? That line didn’t. I like that. People are going to die. You know what it sounds like? Every Democrat congressman right now, people are going to die. People are dying. They’re going to die. I thought that was funny. Good point. David Cornsweat, he’s the new Superman, that great hero from Krypton. But, John, this is no origin story, as we begin with Superman well-established. In fact, he just got beat up. I thought it was a really neat beginning. Well, who beat him up? Why, the Hammer of Bravia, of course. You have no idea who this is. He’s a super robot-looking guy commanded by Lex Luthor, who’s played by Nicholas Holt, one of my favorite actors. Now, why Bravia? Well, Superman has intruded on a war there. They were having a war, he intruded, and now the hammer of Bravia beats him up. And Lex likes this war because he wants Bravia to take over little Jarenpur so he can use it for his nefarious ends. But Superman just wants to stop the killing. Anyway, Supes is practically dead. So his trusty dog, Crypto, brings him back to his ice fortress of solitude where all his talkative robots restore him. Then back to Metropolis. Well, in this Superman world, we already have many metahumans. You know what those are? Superpowers. They’re superpowered beings. The good guys include the Justice Gang, sort of led by Green Lantern. This one is Guy Gardner. I don’t know if you’ve heard of him. I’m into the Green Lanterns, okay? He’s the bad boy of the Green Lantern Corps, and he’s the jerk of the Green Lantern Corps. And he’s played by Nathan Fillion, a very funny actor. It also has Hawk Girl, played by Isabella Merced, and Mr. Terrific. He’s played by Edie Gathegi, and he’s very good. Okay, Lois Lane is played by Rachel Brosnahan, a very good actress. And she already now has a romantic relationship with Supes. So you’re really kind of transported well into the story. You don’t have to have any of the buildup. It’s kind of nice. She’s tough. She’s a really good news girl. She’s tough and fair and very hard hitting. I liked her. Now, all this seems pretty formula, right? But then Lex gets his hands on a damning video from Superman’s Kryptonian parents forecasting a darker purpose for their son. Does Lex post it? Are you kidding? Of course he does. He hates Superman. And before long, social media destroys the Man of Steel. Worse yet, Superman must turn himself in and be put in an interdimensional prison where Lex can really mess with him. Very tough times. So can a good man really shine in a gullible world? A world of people who turn on you at, let’s face it, in a heartbeat. Can the super-powered good guy stop all the super-powered baddies? And ultimately, what makes someone super? And that’s the story of Superman. What do you think?
SPEAKER 03 :
The previews look really good, too.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah. Okay, what works in Superman? Well, first of all, all the acting seems pretty spot on. This is a lighter film. It’s not so heavy as the recent DCU Superman and Batman movies. They lightened it up a little bit, and I enjoyed that. Corrin Sweat, he plays a naive, good-natured farm boy kind of Superman with great powers. And that actually makes a little more sense to me. Nicholas Holt is brilliantly malevolent, but emotionally vulnerable. I thought he nailed it. as Lex Luthor. Now, some critics didn’t really think so, but I just thought he was spot on. I thought he gave it a real different kind of feel and just was brilliant. Brosnahan, she gives Lois real teeth. I enjoyed that. Fillion is a funny guy. Gardner really helped. I’m going to say one bad thing here. Hawkgirl, was wasted. Isabella Merced is a fun actress and, you know, obviously she’s pretty and she’s Hispanic. She needs to be a hot girls always played by Hispanic. I don’t know if you knew that. And, um, she could have done a lot more she’s capable of a lot more and they didn’t give her that much to do so that was a little bit of a waste anyway the biggest scene stealer though is crypto the super dog who could use better training obviously cgi but he was fun not a very well trained dog john not a very well trained dog but he means well and crypto was a lot of fun now you had good flight scenes and special effects especially for mr terrific You probably don’t know much about him. I know a lot about him from the cartoons. And for those who do know Mr. Terrific from the cartoons, I’ll just say this movie did him justice. It was very much just like the cartoons. He’s very powerful. He has these orbs that… that respond to his mind. His mind is basically like a computer. He’s incredibly brilliant. And these orbs can whip around and do all kinds of stuff. And he’s a lot of fun to watch. So he was really good. The scene where Lois interviews Superman, it displays some balance. I enjoyed that. Shouldn’t he consult with the American government before stopping every war? I mean, if he just rushes in, stops this, stops this, stops this, he’s actually affecting a lot of global politics when he does it. And that’s important. And she pins him to the wall on that. And I thought it was a very well done scene. Here’s another one. Clark, okay? Clark Kent, he’s not against killing as some sort of peacenik hippie pacifist. He is because he’s kind. He was raised by two wonderful parents in Kansas. And he just, you know, he’s basically all powerful amongst us, correct? And yet he looks at people with such love and such caring and such hope with all these people around them. He has such admiration for the human race. And he just doesn’t want them killing each other. And that’s why he is. So he’s not this hippie peacenik Tucker Carlson. You know what I mean? It’s not that. It’s just that he is this farm boy who wants – he sees the worst in people like Lex. He gets it, okay? But he wants people to see their value and not hurt each other. I like that. And finally, people are talking about the immigration angle because he is portrayed as an immigrant from another place. You know what? It’s not preached that hard. I think you need to kind of push it in or see it or want to see it to really care about it. I don’t think it was that big of an issue, really. So there are people on the right who are already condemning this movie and saying because it’s going to preach illegal immigration to you. I didn’t feel that way at all. I didn’t think it was that bad. And finally, Lex Luthor. He has this team of brilliant young people in his office who help him do all this bad stuff. And guess what? They were diverse. So it wasn’t just all a bunch of white heterosexual men doing evil things. You had bad people across the spectrum. So that’s pretty cool, right? All right. What doesn’t work in Superman? Well, first of all, it’s a little slow through the middle. It really is. Slow it down a little. Could have shortened it by 10 minutes, I thought. The war. All right, now you have a war between these two countries that obviously don’t exist, and obviously there’s a bit of the Russia-Ukraine kind of feel to this. You’ve got the big boy picking on the little boy, and the little boy is all innocent. And you can say, well, it’s political because the little boy is all innocent and good, therefore it’s basically taking a pro-Ukraine side. It doesn’t mention any of that, but you kind of get that feel. I guess so, but here’s the basic thing. It’s just uninteresting. Who cares about these two countries? It’s not an interesting plot device, and they would keep coming back to it. But the audience, I could tell, they didn’t care about these nations. You know how you can sense the energy in an audience when they’re enjoying things, when they’re laughing, when they’re clapping and getting into things? Every time they were dealing with the war, people really weren’t. It’s like, uh-huh. Well, you know, we don’t want that little guy to get beat up by the big guy. That’s true. Uh-huh. I’m bored. Okay. You have a major plot hole here also. because I’m just going to say it, Lex, because it’s obvious. He helps arm the bigger nation. You already know that because he’s got a stake in this. Well, why super arm the stronger nation against peasants with rocks and sticks? Why do you have to give tanks and laser weapons and stuff like that to go after a bunch of people with rocks and sticks? I mean, it just didn’t make any sense. They could have just rolled over him anyway.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
So I didn’t get that at all. The fight scenes in the pocket dimension, Luthor creates this pocket dimension where Superman is held for a while. Well, they’re a bit confusing and drawn out. The fight scenes there, it starts out good, and then it just gets really boring. He has to fight through this river, and you’re just like, you know, I’m yawning here. Wrap it up. And it takes a while, and it just takes too long. Finally, let’s get to what everybody’s talking about, the woke imagery. Okay. Yeah. Well, the evil nation is all white, pretty much. The good nation appears to be all colored. And it seems to be this grouping of all kinds of different colors and so forth that evil with turbans. I don’t know. But anyway, they’re the helpless ones. And how dare you do this to them? A good man who helps Superman. Of course, the director chose a Muslim. Because he could have chosen a Jew. He could have chosen a Christian. He could have chosen an Asian. He could have chosen anyone. But he has to choose a Muslim. Okay. Let’s see here. The white man victimizes this guy as well. I won’t say how. So, look, there’s a lot of this imagery going on throughout the movie. And it’s… Just a little bit here, a little bit there. Now, having said all that, John, I didn’t find it to be that bad. I didn’t find this movie to be that woke. So my message to everybody is, I think this is, well, a lot of movies have a little bit of wokeness in them, and they do. The last one had a lot. The last one was all wokeness. But if you want to insert the feeling of Russia, Ukraine and that Ukraine is innocent and all that, I guess so. But the races of the good and bad nation, that’s that’s obvious. OK, and a number of the things are obvious. It’s just that overall, this did not feel like a very woke movie. I don’t think it’s that woke. Now, it is woke a little bit, and I’ve just given you the imagery so you can be ready for it if you go see it, because you’re probably going to go see it. It’s a big movie. But I didn’t have it ruin my time. At all.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right. Okay, here we go. Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie 82%. I think that’s very fair. Now, for me, it’s about a three and a half star. I think for general audiences, I’m going to give this movie four stars. Okay. Now, do I think it is as entertaining as, say, F1? No, because I don’t think that the characters are quite as compelling as F1, although it’s funnier than F1. Okay. Okay, a good deal funnier, and I like that. So… I’m going to give it four stars for general audiences. On the political score, I’m going to give it two. I’m not going to give it zero or one, just two. I’m going to knock it down a little bit. I think it leans into it a little bit, but it could have done a lot worse and they didn’t. So I’m cool with that. And here’s the biggie for moral and religious. I’m going to give it a four. I want to close with this. Okay. The best part of this movie was his parents for me. They were very much Hicks. And I mean, I’ve never seen. Superman’s parents, Clark the Kents, depicted as such down-home simple hicks in my life. Now, I’m using the big city lingo, right? Please don’t think this is bigoted, folks. I’m just using the way big city people look at the country people.
SPEAKER 03 :
Those are my roots. You can say that.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
I’m one of those that you’re safe in saying.
SPEAKER 06 :
They talk as hickey as you can get. And I mean, they talk slow. They talk relaxed. They talk. There’s nothing impressive about them. They’re not constantly reeling off a little bit of wit or a little bit of charm or a little bit of or a ton of wisdom coming down from. you know hillbilly heaven or whatever they’re just hicks and they’re nice and they’re kind and the values and so you’re depicting two people who are everything that Hollywood hates right but they’re depicted as the good guys and because of these two truly good loving people that’s where Clark gets all his values His good bellies. Oh, yeah. I loved it. And I loved the ending with them. I loved it all. I thought that their relationship with Clark, even though it’s not a big part of the movie, it grows as more and more a part of the movie. And I thought in a lot of ways it emotionally made the movie.
SPEAKER 03 :
Good to know.
SPEAKER 06 :
And because of that, I’m giving it four stars for more religious. There you go. Do I recommend going to Superman? Yes, I do. Folks, have some fun. I think this is the best Superman in quite a few years.
SPEAKER 03 :
Enjoy it. Good to know. Geno’s Auto Service. Trouble with your air conditioning or anything else on your vehicle? We have got a solution. Go to Geno’s Auto Service. It’s genosautoservice.com. And Geno starts with a J.
SPEAKER 02 :
Air conditioning season is here. Take advantage of Geno’s Auto’s air conditioning recharge special. Is your vehicle’s air conditioning ready to keep you cool on hot days? We all know how fast Colorado can heat up during the day. The refrigerant in your air conditioning system gets contaminants, evaporates, and breaks down over time. That refrigerant needs to be able to absorb heat to be able to cool your vehicle’s interior. Geno’s uses a cooling machine that takes out the old refrigerant and cleans it. Then they put the clean refrigerant back, topping off with Freon at the right level. To make your life simpler, Geno’s offers loaner vehicles so you can drop your car off and pick up when ready. We back up our work with NAPA’s nationwide 36-month, 36,000-mile warranty. Stay cool this summer by making sure your system is up to date and ready for this year’s summer heat. Give us a call or go online to schedule an appointment. We’re AAA approved and located at Bowles and Platt Canyon. Stop in or visit us online at genosautoservice.com.

SPEAKER 13 :
Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right, this was sent to me by a listener, and I went and looked it up during the review Andy was giving, and that is a statement from Chairman of the Board of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, William J. Pulte, on reports that Jerome Powell is considering resigning. I’m encouraged by reports, this is a quote, that Jerome Powell is considering resigning. I think this will be the right decision for America, and the economy will boom. Now, will he or won’t he? Hard to say.
SPEAKER 06 :
That would be… Just one of the most beautiful things that’s ever happened in my life.
SPEAKER 03 :
You and I both.
SPEAKER 06 :
That would almost feel like election night.
SPEAKER 03 :
And one more thing, really quick out of this. Please, go. At Jordan Goodman this last Tuesday, you weren’t here. Yes, I missed it. And one of the things I asked him specifically is, will Jerome resign early, possibly even by Christmas? Nope. He’s all the way through next May. So if this does happen.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, how do you predict that?
SPEAKER 03 :
And he may stay the distance. I’ve heard of the rumors along these lines is why I asked that on Tuesday.
SPEAKER 06 :
John, it would be fantastic.
SPEAKER 03 :
It would be the best thing that could ever happen to this country right now at this point in time.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, yeah. I mean, we are two things.
SPEAKER 03 :
Either he leaves or he switches his direction on being so anti-Trump. No, he won’t do that. And deciding to actually do something for the country. But I’m with you. He’s not going to do that.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, no, no. He’s an activist. You and I have been saying it from the start. I know Jordan wants to think that he’s just doing it because of concerns over inflation. No, he hates Trump. He hates conservatism. Frankly, I don’t think he’s that all too fond of America. I don’t think he cares. I would agree with you. Look, this guy is an activist in a very powerful position.
SPEAKER 03 :
The most. Next to the president, the most powerful position, Andy.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, you could argue that, yeah. I mean, look what he’s doing to it. How many people can destroy the housing industry simply by taking too long? He is way behind the curve. How many countries around the world have lowered their rates, lowered their rates, lowered their rates? Remember, countries around the world had jacked their rates up.
SPEAKER 03 :
Maybe not all, Andy, but let me say it this way. All of the important ones, let me say it that way. All the ones that matter have, let’s say it that way.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, certainly all the G7.
SPEAKER 03 :
So he is really, I mean, well, we talk about it a lot outside of the Friday edition here, but he is really behind.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, right now. The economy, you’ve got inflation low. You’ve got hiring is up. You’ve got everything primed. Everybody’s sitting there on the edge of their seat saying, I want to buy a house. I want to sell my house. I want to move. I want to get a different house. I want to take this other job in Texas and go there and get another house, and I want to sell my house here. And everybody is stuck in mud because of one man. Get out.
SPEAKER 03 :
Mm-hmm. Yeah, that’s where I’m going. I go with the – and I’ve said this before. Yes, I get it. The president of the United States is leader of the free world, is probably by default the quote-unquote most powerful person in the world, which, by the way, means we as citizenry are because we vote that person in and we can’t do the job ourselves. He actually works for us, but I’m digressing. But outside of the presidency, the head of the Fed, the Fed chair – probably has as much power and affects as many people. Probably. Actually, Andy, if I went as far as to say economically speaking, probably has more to do with what they do daily in feeding their family as even Donald Trump does.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, in a lot of ways he does, although Trump has made such unbelievable impact.
SPEAKER 03 :
He has, but just think about if Jerome Powell had lowered rates by another point right now.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, let me say one more thing here, getting off Paul for a second and getting on to Trump. I know people are worried about the fact that, okay, now we have 35% tariffs on Canada. Folks, those are temporary. This is what has to happen right now. These countries must fall. feel the pain i agree with you and i believe the 90 day thing was a great idea why because it gave them enough time to really talk and lay out a lot of the basics for deals that they want but when you want to finalize that deal when you want to push it over the top you can’t just and i know people are saying well he’s only got three deals so far yeah i know this is why okay They had the 90 days. They laid it out. Now you’ve got to feel some pain to put it over the top to make the final push. It’s kind of like when two teams are going to trade players, okay? Okay. And one team is kind of holding off. You know why they’re holding off? Because they need that other team to really suffer for another couple weeks without your player that they really need. Because you know. After they suffer for a couple more weeks, they’re going to give you more. They’re going to give you a much better draft pick. They’re going to give you more compensation. I’m serious. I see this. Ask your son. We see it happen every year. And they’ll hold out and they’ll wait, and then they’ll get that better deal. That is why Trump is jacking up some tariffs on a lot of these countries. It’s not like, oh, well, those are going to be there forever. No, they aren’t. No, they aren’t. Those are going to be there for a while, why they must feel the pain, and they have to have their people angry at them. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 03 :
And as I’ve always said and will continue to say, even said it Tuesday again to Jordan, it’s high time we use our buying clout. We are the largest buyer of products in the entire world. That’s our leverage. Not counting China, the next closest is some 10 times behind us. So the reality is we have the most buying power of anybody out there. We should be using it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right, and China’s is just because of the population, really.
SPEAKER 03 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. Yeah, I mean, look, that is our big chip to play at the table, and we haven’t been playing it, and we’ve been getting our tails kicked.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. Stupid, Andy. We should be playing it. As we’ve continued to say, we should be using those cards. You must. We finally are, and yet all we get is, of course, it’s the lap, but all you get is criticisms because of it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, take a minute on this, and then we’ll go to break. How do you think this is going to affect so much of the world right now, John, has spent decades surviving off of the American consumer buying their stuff no matter what while they had totally imbalanced tariff deals? What is this going to be like, though? I mean, how much can they flex when, let’s face it, it would cripple a lot of their economies to give an even trade deal?
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s why when you said a moment ago a lot of them have lowered rates, it’s to try to adjust for some of the things that you’re talking about right there. So they’re already working in that direction because they don’t have any choice. They’re trying everything they can to prop things back up.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, Japan was starting to come our way, but Japan had to hold up a bit, and Trump nailed them between the eyes. And I’m telling you what.
SPEAKER 03 :
Dumb. These countries are dumb, Andy.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, Japan can’t make it without the American consumer. They can’t.
SPEAKER 03 :
China can’t make it without the American consumer. Right. I mean, maybe they could, but they will not be the same country they are now without us. Let’s just say it that way.
SPEAKER 06 :
Not even close.
SPEAKER 03 :
I’ll say it that way. Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning coming up next. And I’ve had several questions here lately asking about what are my thoughts on heat pumps. SPEAKER 04 :
Live and local, back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 03 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Debra’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. We’ll see what happens with the Fed and all of that. As you guys all know, we’ll keep you abreast of those things, and that’ll be big news. If that, in fact, does happen, I highly doubt it’ll be you heard it here first. It’ll be you’ll hear it everywhere first.
SPEAKER 06 :
What would be a bigger win, his recent Supreme Court victories or that?
SPEAKER 03 :
I think this would be the biggest win. For the economy end of things, this would be the biggest win.
SPEAKER 06 :
This, the Supreme Court victories, or Big Beautiful Bill?
SPEAKER 03 :
Jerome Powell still. I think so, too. Still out of all three because of what it would do.
SPEAKER 06 :
He’s an activist against Trump.
SPEAKER 03 :
And really quick, we’ve got a minute here. So, you know, the other thing that it would do for all of you listening, please hear me when I say this. What it would do to the economy and what it would drive from now until the midterms, all of this fuss, and I explained this yesterday, so I’m not going to go back into details over the Epstein end of things and so on. But no offense, folks. That would go in the rearview mirror so quickly. Oh, nobody would care. If Jerome Powell resigned and they did a full-point rate cut, for example, and they got housing rolling along again, anybody out there saying that the Epstein debacle and all of that would have an effect upon the midterms, if you did that, no, it wouldn’t.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, and by the way, John, newsflash. For those who don’t think he’s an activist, let me tell you something. If somebody else gets in there, lowers rates by a point. It needs to be a full point. The worst situation you can have in the world is to be a Democrat candidate going into 26.
SPEAKER 03 :
Can’t argue that, Andy.
SPEAKER 06 :
Awful. And he is an activist for the Democrat Party.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, well, and I think, you know, anybody that would argue with me on that, just look at what he did under the Biden administration versus what he has done now. Look at the literal statements that he makes on an ongoing basis about, you know, the economy and Trump and so on. The reality is he claims to not be political, but he is very.
SPEAKER 06 :
Who propped up Biden more, Biden’s wife or Powell?
SPEAKER 03 :
Powell.
SPEAKER 1 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
Powell at the end of the day. All right, next hour we have got your favorite bad guys in movies, so best bad guys or gals, by the way.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, no, no, I’m going to go guys.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, just guys only? Let’s go guys because we did gals about six months ago. Okay, so guys only. I might have to take one or two off my list, but we’ll figure that out. Not a big deal. Maybe very manly women. Okay, we’ll be back in a moment. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 1 :
Bye.
SPEAKER 07 :
Average guys.
SPEAKER 1 :
Average guys.
