And force can obviously be a weapon, but it can also be the policies, unpredictable and excessive taxation. fear coercion government-induced inflation the agenda of the world economic forum and the globalist elites which we have seen that being played out in the united nations but it’s at this colorado state legislature with this colorado governor but also it’s at the local level as and that could be with uh rewriting these comprehensive plans rezoning things um monument designations we’ll talk with sean pond about that easements, all of these things are changing the fabric of our country. And they know exactly what they’re doing. And it’s coming at us like a freight train. And people are realizing what’s going on. But to try to get this thing stopped and turned around. for property rights is this, we are at, our word of the day, it’s actually two words, is inflection point. So remember, if something is a good idea, you should not have to use force to implement it. And on the show, we focus on the issues, not the personalities, but we will talk about the people that are pushing issues. And America’s Veterans Stories, yesterday we rebroadcast an interview that we had done back in 2019 with World War II veteran John Schaffner. And we are dusting off some of these shows that we have recorded in the past because there is gold in these stories. And so that will rebroadcast this next Sunday, 10 to 11 at night, and then the next Saturday, 10 to 11 at night as well. But really blessed with amazing stories. went to Normandy, France in 2016 with a group that accompanied 40 day veterans and realized that we need to know these stories. And so started this a while back and we have some formatting challenges and things that Joe is getting figured out so that we can pull these out because I have interviewed well over 250 World War II veterans in addition to our other wars and conflicts as well. so that is 3 to 4 p.m on sunday afternoons is when we do that initial show so be sure and check that out next thing let’s get over here to our word of the day and it is inflection point and it could be a moment or of dramatic change, especially in the development of a company, industry, or market, I would say that we are at an inflection point in our country. When we had talked to General Joe Arbuckle recently on the show, he had mentioned that there was a senator that had the, how many, now I can’t remember, like 40 different things from the Communist Manifesto. that they were going to do to try to take down America. And they’ve made a lot of success on those things. And we are at an inflection point now, whether or not we are going to get our country turned around for liberty, or we’re going to march into socialism and communism. And we are there as in fact, I some some of my neighbors, they have relatives in from New York. And so we talked about New York City and the fact that there may be a well, there’s a candidate who is an avowed communist who may win that race for mayor. And her point, they live in Buffalo. She said all the rest of New York will pay for these decisions of what will be happening in New York. But New York is also then going to look to the federal government. to help fund all that as well. And that has never been the proper role of government. The founders realized that we had, at the time, the 13 colonies became the 13 states, and that there would be a lot of things. Well, the federal government was to be very limited. And that’s why we have the Constitution. The state and the things that are not in the Constitution are reserved for the states and for the people. And the founders realized, We had all these little different Petri dishes that were making different decisions. Again, I think within the vision of our declaration that all men are created equal with these rights from God of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. But states could have different ways to kick the tires and make that happen. And if they were successful, great. If not, the people of that state would have to pay for that. What has happened now is you have states like California or Colorado with the special session that has been called by the governor, which is going to begin on the 21st of August. We are just south of a billion dollars in the hole because of different funding that is not going to be paid to Colorado. By the federal government. Well, the federal government doesn’t create anything. The federal government gets that revenue by taking it from Coloradans and businesses or borrowing it from our children and our grandchildren. And our children and our grandchildren have no say in encumbering or taking on this debt that they’re going to have to pay off. And so this is a real inflection point in our country on exactly what is going to happen regarding just all of these different things. So stay tuned. We’re in a very exciting time. Our quote for the show. Today is from C.S. Lewis. He was born in 1898. He died in 1966. He was a British writer and lay theologian best known for his works of fiction, including The Chronicles of Narnia, The Screwtape Letters, and The Space Trilogy. He held positions at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and he was a close friend of J.R.R. Tolkien. After abandoning his faith in adolescence, C.S. Lewis returned to Anglicanism at the age of 32. And he said this, We all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about turn and walking back to the right road. In that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive. And we talk about language all the time on the show, how important language is. And the word liberal has been hijacked. The word progress has been hijacked by the radical activist left that has taken over the Democrat Party. Now, on language, we have to engage in this regular battle. One of the things I really encourage you is do not refer to Democrats as Democratic, because I think we have a favorable position. view generally of the word democratic. That means that people are able to vote and have their votes counted. But there’s nothing democratic about the radical activists that have taken over this Democrat Party. And so we need to explain to people that this Democrat Party, and you see it play out right here in Colorado, is really being controlled by radical activists and the veil is coming off actually socialists and communists. And the everyday individual does not do well under socialism or communism. As Jay Davidson has said, that America values the sanctity of the individual, the individual being able to make their choices and be responsible for those choices. And so that is that is we are at an inflection point in our country regarding all of this. Several things I wanted to mention. And you would not believe it. But later that day, a knock on my well, actually, it was a guy that was standing out front. And it was a guy who was a contractor with Xcel Energy. And he said, I’m here to put your smart meter on. And I said, well, I don’t want a smart meter, and it’s supposed to be in our records that we don’t want one. And he said, well, it says right here that the customer requested it. And I said, I did not request that. And so we continued to have a conversation, and I said, I want to opt out of that. And then he went on to say, and then I went out and looked, and I have a meter now that I don’t know quite when it was put on that says no communication. But yet he said that that meter actually is giving time of day usage and is sending that back to Excel. And he says, you need to opt out of that as well. And I said, okay. And then I have a friend who had said to Excel that he wanted to opt out. And it’s taken at least three weeks. He wanted to opt out of the time of use reporting. And it’s taken at least three weeks, and it’s not occurred yet. regarding his request. And the idea that, and Excel recently, there was a headline that Excel is going to increase our rates as well. And we need to get back to reliable, efficient, affordable and abundant power. And wind and solar can be supplements, but they are not reliable. The wind doesn’t always blow. The sun doesn’t always shine. And we want to make sure that we have reliable power. And so that’s why we continue to shed light on all of these things. And it is reliable power from oil, natural gas, and coal that powers our lives, fuels our hopes and dreams. and empowers us to change our own personal climate. And we have these very important discussions, things that you don’t always hear out there. We try to go through and really shed light on important things that are percolating out there that can change our lives. And several things that we’re doing, we are preparing. for this special session that is coming up because this is, I think, going to be really important regarding what this legislature and governor are going to do. And I think they’re going to try to squeeze out every last dime out of hardworking Coloradans that they possibly can. And so we’re going to be looking at these things from a TABOR standpoint. And TABOR is our Colorado Taxpayers Bill of Rights. And we really want to protect that. But I want to say thank you to this team. Oh, the other thing that we’re working on is the ratings report. And that will be coming out soon as well. It’s an extensive amount of work that makes that happen. And it’s all volunteers that work on this. And you can join us by going to coloradotaxpayer.org, which that segues into this headline that I wanted to mention. This is from KJCT News, an ABC affiliate. And it is titled, Our Tabor Refund Has Been Taken Away. Colorado lawmakers called into special session to address budget shortfall. This was published on August 6th. And it says – and there’s different numbers out there. But this article says $1.2 billion is missing from Colorado’s budget this year, triggering budgetary chaos in the state capitol. First of all, you’ve got to think, didn’t they – realize that something like this was coming down the pike and have addressed it already. But it says the Colorado General Assembly will be called back into session to address a significant shortfall in Colorado’s budget caused by federal cuts, according to a press release that was issued. The state cited increased tax deductions for corporations. It’s more money in the pocket for businesses and the shift of costs from the federal government to state governments as the cause for the budgetary crisis. Now, backing up under the Joe Biden, well, both under Obama and Biden, there was increased inflation. Trying to get people onto Medicaid and onto SNAP, which is food stamps. And I remember advertisements during the Obama administration campaign. advertising people to encourage them to sign up for SNAP. And remember what the government giveth, the government can taketh away. And we see a perfect example of this. And I totally support the Trump administration trying to get the spending back into, get reduced spending back And we’ve got to do that and push this back to the states where the states have to make these decisions. And we need to because the federal government does not have the money. And so anyway, the special session is planned to begin on August 21st at 10 a.m. But with that, our Tabor refunds goes on to say Office of State Planning and Budgeting Director Mike Ferrandino also joined Polis during the announcement. The simple reality is that HR1 immediately cuts Colorado’s revenue, making it so that our budget is no longer balanced and that our TABOR refund has been taken away for this fiscal year. And TABOR, our TABOR refunds, is a calculation that the government can grow above a very… Generous formula of population plus inflation. But anything above that money that’s been collected from us, we the people, is to be given back to us. And it looks like that’s not going to happen this year. Colorado did put in a hiring freeze. Duh, they should have. And that reduces the growth of government, which is great. And it says the freeze will run from August 27th to December 31st of this year. Now, it says, according to the White House, the federal cuts have already saved taxpayers billions of dollars. So stay tuned on all of that. Speaking of cut Colorado’s union of taxpayers, one of the bill that I’m going to be writing on, we have chosen 30 different bills to give a little bit more detailed analysis of. And the team has done a really super job. of the statements on each of the bills that we took positions on. And let me just, let’s see. Out of the over 700 bills or resolutions that were proposed this last legislative session, CUT took positions on 259 of them. And then we’re going to choose 30 that we are writing more extensively on. And I’m writing on this one and This did not get a lot of attention. And in my gut, I knew that there was an agenda. And I can’t quite tell you that I know exactly what that agenda is yet. But it is Senate Bill 25001. So what that means is it is the very first bill that was introduced in the Senate this year. That means that it is very important to those that presented it, and it basically has all of the Democrats’ names on it. And it is considered the Colorado Voting Rights Act, and I went through it, and I’ve been studying it, and it basically… It basically is identifying people more as groups, member of groups, instead of individuals. And so this is an article that is from, let’s see, Denver 7. It says Colorado lawmakers, and the bill sat out there until the end of the session, which meant that there wasn’t a lot of attention that was put on it. But I think that there’s something more. Hmm. Very pot. Well, I know there’s something very nefarious when you start to identify people in groups instead of as individuals, because, again, that is inherently Marxist. And then what you do is you get different groups to pit themselves against each other. And I think that this particular bill does that. So anyway, going to this from Channel 7. It says that Senate Bill 25001, also known as Colorado Voting Rights Act, would enshrine protections from the Federal Voting Rights Act into Colorado law. So I’m not sure that we’d have to do that because it seems redundant. So I think this is the next thing that’s important and modify certain election related statutes to ensure access to voting at the state and local levels. I don’t think we’ve had a problem with that. And in fact, the Colorado Municipal League had said the same thing. And it says this again is from Channel 7. It says that it involves voter registration related to voters who are members of Native American tribes, says ensuring voter access of methods of selecting candidates for the general election. uh and that’s that is one of the first things there as i read that um that affects what the different political parties how they can actually get candidates to the general election and that is not the role of the colorado state government so that i saw was a real problem it says election voting notices regarding people with disabilities Language access to, it looks to me like almost all languages. Think about the cost involved in making that happen. That’s why we need to have one language for our country. Election related data collection. And then it also, again, from this article, adds protections for LGBTQ plus Coloradans, ensuring that they can’t be denied access to vote because of their actual or perceived gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation. As citizens of this state, they cannot be denied access. I don’t think that there’s a problem with that. So inherently, this Voting Rights Act, putting people into groups is based on Marxism. And so I’m super concerned about that. Let’s see. The other thing I did want to mention is the Center for American Values located in Pueblo on the Riverwalk. Good morning, Kim. Thanks for having me on again.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and Sean, you never thought that you would be this involved in politics. And so take us through your journey a bit on how you got involved and ended up where you are and some of the revelations that you have. So where did this all begin, Sean Pond?
SPEAKER 08 :
That’s going to be kind of a boring one and kind of a crazy story, Kim. But I’m just that guy that… Raised his family. I was never involved in politics. I just always got my ballot. I voted, but I voted a party line. Completely uninvolved until last year, 2024, in about February, I found out that there was a group of environmental activists that were working with Senator John Hickenlooper and Senator Michael Bennett to… create a 500,000 acre national monument here in my backyard, a place that I’ve gone to for most of my life, that my kids have spent their lives recreating on, that I have friends that make a living on in the ranching industry. And the more my wife and I researched it, the more we found out about things like the Antiquities Act of 1906 and what could be done to us from our government. And that simple threat combined with the unconstitutional legislation that continues to pour out of the Colorado House and Senate, it just finally struck a nerve to where I couldn’t take it anymore. I was worried about the rest of my life and what I was leaving to my kids and my grandchildren and what’s happening in my home state. So I didn’t jump into politics or get involved. I did the simplest thing possible. that I’d never done before. I started a petition to halt the Dolores Monument. And that simple act of creating a petition, it caught people. People were engaged and involved. It brought a lot of attention to it. We got a lot of signatures. We gathered a lot of opposition to having our public lands locked up. And that took me the most The sacrifices that my wife and I made, and I have to mention my wife because she’s been behind all of this, but it took a toll on us. But we fought. We rallied the troops. We got a lot of public input. And together as a community, and I can’t even say community, together as people all across the state, we were able to be a small part in stopping that national monument designation. And then within two days, we knew the monument hadn’t been created when President Trump was sworn in. But two days afterwards, I had a working group put together or an appointed commission, if you would, that had threatened a national conservation area on the same area, on the Dolores River. But this time it was comprised of a county commissioner from Montrose County and one from Mesa County and some, again, appointed people. And they were talking about a 68,000-acre national conservation area. So two days after the monument was a no-go, I found myself – Without time to celebrate, here we were fighting the National Conservation Area. And within a week or two of that, a friend of mine who had just won election for Montrose County Commissioner District 3 unexpectedly and tragically had a heart attack and passed away. And that created a vacancy on the Montrose County Board of County Commissioners. And it was kind of an unexpected turn. I received hundreds of phone calls from people asking me to please put my name in the hat. And it’s kind of funny. I didn’t even know what they really meant, to be honest with you. But I did. I made a phone call. We had six days because under Colorado State statute, there’s 10 days to fill that seat or the governor, Governor Polis, gets to appoint that person. So it was kind of a rush. I went over there kind of as an unknown and somehow walked out of there being appointed and sworn in as Montrose County Commissioner for District 3 that day. And that’s how I came into this seat. And it’s only been six months. right about six months now and boy have my eyes been opened i’ve been to dc i’ve walked the capital in denver and i’ve seen people met people my phone blows up about the people that are terrified of what we’re losing in in this state here in colorado and so it’s been a it’s been a journey of only a few years but i’m a quick learn and i listen to what people have to say and that’s that’s kind of the story of how i ended up where i am today

Okay. Just a quick question. Now, I saw headlines that Hickenlooper, Bennett, and then Congressman Jeff Hurd come together, bipartisan, to do what I consider some kind of a land grab. What is that exactly, Sean Pond?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, so the Gunnison Outdoor Resource Protection Act, and that actually goes back and has ties right into this National Conservation Area that I was speaking about previously. And I’ll tie that in where at that time, Senator Bennett’s office was talking about releasing this broader land use package, which would have included the Gunnison Outdoor Resource Protection Act, 730,000 acres in the Gunnison Basin, the Dolores National Conservation Area in Mason Montrose counties, and the Dolores National Conservation Area, and San Miguel, Dolores, and Montezuma Counties. Currently, Bennett Higginlooper and Jeff Heard, disappointingly, They have this broader land use package. They’re separate now, but they’re out there. The only reason the NCA here in Montrose and Mesa County is not included in that act is because when I was appointed my second day in this chair, I put a resolution before our board to oppose the NCA in Montrose and Mesa County, and it passed. So we’ve kept that off the table for now. But the Gunnison Outdoor Resource Protection Act, it’s the single largest threat to public lands in And taking Looper Bennett, the two suspects we always see here, the head environmentalist in charge, and they’ve got a new friend. Congressman Jeff Hurd is working with them. He’s co-sponsored the bill. They’ve been over here. They’ve toured it. It’s actively, it’s in the threat. This is actually a bill introduced into Congress. So it’s real. I’ve traveled to Gunnison. I’ve spoke with people. 730,000 acres is about to be taken from the American people. From our industries, it’ll crush jobs. It has water implications. It’s a real threat. So I’m trying to speak about it, trying to raise awareness, and trying to get people to understand what it truly means.
SPEAKER 12 :
So what can people do right now, Commissioner Pond?
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, they need to make sure they’re asking their county commissioner. So that gore back spans five counties. Delta County, Gilpin, Pitkin, Ouray, Sawatch. Gunnison, I believe, are the five. And they need to be talking to their county commissioners. Now, most of those are Democrats, not all of them. But the commissioners in those counties, they support it. People need to go ask them why. They need to get in front of their county commissioners. They need to get in front of their elected representatives and ask the serious, the hard questions and demand answers. Why are we locking up this land? Why are we going to lose access for outdoor recreation, hunting, outfitting businesses? You know, the outfitting and guiding business in outdoor recreation brings in billions of dollars in revenue each year. Why are we curtailing oil and gas exploration? Why are we locking up the resources below this land? So that’s the most important thing they can do. I do have a petition out there on change.org, HALT Corp., that’s being circulated. It hasn’t picked up the traction that the HALT, the Dolores, did in the past, and I’m not sure why. I think it’s going to send it to just a smaller area. But people need to understand what it truly means. Because this is public land, it affects people all across this country, not just locals. But it has huge impacts to Colorado and especially the locals here.

Okay. So, Sean Pond, I think we’ll go to break early because as I want to ask these next questions, I don’t want to interrupt us. So we’re going to go to break early. And welcome back to the Kim Monson Show. And we’re going to jump right into the conversation with Montrose County Commissioner Sean Pond. Sean, I saw you had a Facebook post that I found was absolutely riveting because you were able to articulate something that it’s been a journey for me to start to figure out. And that is, is that basically many of our elected representatives are they’re not really the ones that are representing the people. There’s a shadow control in boards, commissions, and NGOs. And it stopped me in my tracks when I saw that. So please share your insight on that.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, I’d be happy to, Kim. And I would say that you’re probably not the only one. That video on a simple Facebook post had almost 40,000 views. So people are starting to pay attention, and I’m thankful for that. But it’s very simple. What I would tell people is that Colorado is being controlled and run by people that they don’t vote for, and that these unelected commissions, they’re appointed, and they make the decisions bypassing your elected officials. And it’s not by accident. It’s been going on for a very long time, and that’s all part of the blueprint of how they want to how they want to change this state, and it’s worked. It’s swept across Colorado, and it’s here right now on the western slope. Some of these last rural strongholds here in western Colorado were a target. So it happens, and I’ll give you an example. I attended… The Colorado Parks and Wildlife meeting here in Grand Junction three weeks ago or so, I sat and watched this CPW unelected appointed commission that made these decisions that affected people’s lives. And I was taken aback by that because this commission, so the Gray Wolf introduction, and I always say introduction because the Canadian Gray Wolf was never native to Colorado, It passed. The voters put it out there, and it passed by an incredibly small margin, 50.91%. And that percentage that passed it was on the front range. But the ballot language had the gray whoop introduced here. So the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission is comprised of appointed… Anti-hunters and appointed wolf advocates. And those are the people that make the decisions on where the Canadian gray wolf is introduced into western Colorado. These are the people that I sat and watched who made the decision of ranchers not getting paid for livestock depredation. So the voters voted for it. But Jared Polis appoints these unelected officials or unelected appointees, and they make decisions for the very well-being of rural western Colorado, for our agriculture producers, for our ranchers. And that’s probably one of the most public ones that people see. It’s in the limelight, if you would. But there’s so many others. I mean, from the state level all the way down to local town municipalities. Another example is the Air Quality Control Commission. Right now in Colorado, they’re phasing out natural gas in the new buildings and pushing strict emission rules. And again, that commission was appointed, never approved by the voters. You didn’t get a vote, Kim. The people don’t get a vote. And your state legislator, your elected representatives don’t get a voice in that. That’s how they bypass the voice of the people. It goes on and on. Another one, Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Again, appointed by the governor. And most of the people on these commissions, like this one for the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, they’re all environmental activists. They’re the same people that oppose oil and gas regulations. So the commissions are stacked with the people that have a negative influence on the very industries of which they impact. It goes on and on. The Water Control Commission. All of these commissions are appointed, not elected, not voted on. They bypass the people’s voice. They bypass the legislative elected officials at the House and the Senate in Colorado. And that’s the people that are making the final decision for you, for the people out there. It’s a very long, deep, dark story, but it’s happened for a decade now or more, and these are the people that are calling the shots, Kim. It’s terrifying.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and I also saw, so I served on city council from 2012 to 2016. And all these different boards and commissions, they’re being, well, at least at the local level, Sean Pond, they’re being sold to us as where we can get citizen input on these different issues. It’s actually become somewhat of a training ground for, for a bench, if you will, for those that are wanting to get into elected office. But as you said, they maintain a tremendous amount of control. And one of those planning boards is the planning commissions. They have a tremendous amount of power and they are unelected. And same thing. They are being chosen by, I have this in air quotes, the city council. It took me a while to connect the dots that at least in the town that we were in, the planning commission decided, did a lot of the bidding of the agenda out there that was being pushed. And so it took me a while to connect that dot, Sean Pond.
SPEAKER 08 :
No, you’re absolutely right. I’ll give you an example right now played out in real time. So here in Montrose County, there is a solar moratorium. And that solar moratorium was put in place two years ago by a previous board. And As a board right now, we are looking at adopting power generation policy for Montrose County, which includes solar. And the planning commission that I get appointed, they review all of these, whether it be power generation policy or building codes, major and minor subdivisions. All of these issues go before the planning commission. prior to being given to a board in any given county or city municipality, as you were talking about. And I think it’s important that people understand that those commissions are heavily influenced by the lobby, the lobby group, the people that want to put their will on the people. And it’s important that county commissioners across the 64 counties of Colorado realize that when they get the advice from that commission, What they’re hearing is the advice and the guidance from a commission that’s been stacked against the people sometimes, and it’s important to make up their own mind to put it out there for the public, to get public input from all of the constituents, not just focus on the commission. It’s important for people to remember that. The commission can’t tell a board what to do. They literally give them advice, but their advice is not always based upon the good of the people in the area.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and what I found, though, Sean, is sometimes the electeds hide behind the decisions of the commission because the electeds don’t really want to take a stand on it. They’re saying, oh, well, the planning commission approved this, and so that was the voice of the people, and so that’s what we’re going to do. And so it’s a very interesting web that has been created here. Now, we saw a couple of things very exciting. Over here on the front range, out on the eastern plains, the commissioners in Elbert County and the commissioners have a tremendous amount of power. In fact, someone told me that the commissioners have more decision-making power about what happens in your lives than your elected representative or senator down at the statehouse. And I think that’s true. And so the commissioners in El Paso County and in Elbert County both denied permits for Excel to do a land grab for an electric transmission line across their counties. And I congratulate them for standing up and representing the property rights of their constituents. But an unelected board, the commissioners, Utilities Commission, my understanding, has given Excel eminent domain to be able to take that land. Again, connecting that dot, Sean Pond.
SPEAKER 08 :
No, you’re exactly right. And that’s the complete point of the video I made and the talk I have with people is we have unelected commissions, appointed commissions, overriding the people that you vote for. That is not the way the Constitutional Republic was set to be. The voice of the people is being bypassed. That’s tyranny. Plain and simple. And it’s playing out all across Colorado right now. I want to give an example of something right here in a small town of Nattery to Nuka, Colorado, my hometown. We have a group that came in here called Community Builders. And Community Builders has came in here as part of the Just Transition Board. So Nuka, Colorado had a coal mine and a coal power plant there. And the environmental activists and our failed leadership in Colorado closed those plants down, took hundreds of jobs, thousands in direct jobs. And then they call this area Just Transition. Well, then the progressive front rings, sends this group in here called Community Builders, and they come in here to build a new vision, if you would, for the west end of Montrose County. And they actually called it the West End Sustainability Plan, which has deep socialist ties. And I called that out before I was ever in any position. So they changed the name to the West End Vision Plan. But they come over here once a month. They have taco dinners, free spaghetti dinners, ice cream socials, and they bring the community in. Some of these people just come in there to get their kid a free ice cream cone, but they count every soul that walks through that door as support. for this community transition. Well, that transition is away from rural Colorado, Western Colorado values, away from oil and gas exploration that provides jobs, away from critical mineral extraction and mining, away from agriculture producer, back into the Green New Deal and solar plans. And they start to work their plan to the local level, and they call that community involvement and local control when it’s really not. And this, and the plan, they’re funded by grants, right? And the plan, when it plays out, is? they will put together an appointed commission right here that starts to be the voice of the locals. And the people don’t even realize it’s happening. They’re trading a free ice cream cone for the voice of the future of what happens in their communities. So this is playing out from these small towns with a population of 400 people all the way to the front range where Xcel Energy is a username and a domain. These unappointed commissions are actually what’s running Colorado, not the people you vote for. And we have to expose it. We have to talk about it. and we have to make sure that that can’t keep happening here in Colorado.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and that’s why your journey to get to this point where you are a county commissioner in Montrose County is so important that you’re shedding light on this. We’re going to have Marlee Hornick on in the next hour. She is with Unite for Freedom regarding… We had raised money, our listeners and followers, regarding two lawsuits that were filed regarding elections here in Colorado because… What you’re talking about is there’s been this whole big strategy, and while the people that you elect – and I saw it even when I was on city council that it was – I just saw all the power of these boards and commissions, but there are those that are elected, such as Jared Polis, then uses these boards and commissions to push his agenda. So elections really do matter as well. Sean Pond, this has gone very quickly. We have about a minute left. How would you like to wrap this up?
SPEAKER 08 :
I would wrap it up by reiterating what you just said. This is part of – when Jared Polis ran for election, he said he was going to fundamentally change Colorado, and he has. He’s destroyed our rural values. And that’s the Democratic blueprint to flip Colorado. They’ve created these commissions. They work together. It’s a progressive plan, and people need to get involved. My point right now is to wake people up, make people understand what’s really happening, get the uninvolved involved. and realize that the election of 2026 is a pivotal moment in Colorado’s future, and we have to all be involved to save this state that we love.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, absolutely. And Shampan, thank you to you and your family, your wife, for stepping forward, because I know it takes an enormous amount of time to attend all these different meetings as an elected, but I really appreciate that you’re doing that. So inflection point is our word of the day. It’s a moment of dramatic change, especially in the development of a company, industry, market, or I’m going to say a state and a country. He said, we all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about turn and walking back to the right road afterwards. In that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive. We need to progress to reclaim this state of Colorado that we love. And so, again, that was C.S. Lewis. It’s a really important story. about freedom and thank you to gammy she i i talked about the senate bill 25001 and she had taken positions on a number of different bills and had sent the information to legislators and the governor and she really nailed this uh and she said that um Basically, she referenced Donald Trump’s executive orders regarding defending women from gender ideology, extremism and restoring biological truth to the federal government. And the second order that would protect children with gender dysphoria from chemical and surgical mutilation. So Gammy went on to say here, she said, we already have laws that do not discriminate. She’s right. Codifying or making gender dysphoria an ideology as a protected class is wrong. And she’s right on that. It sets up one group to have special rights over others. And if you have special rights, you do not have equal rights. Then she addresses this with the Indian tribes. And she said, we already have protections for people with disabilities. And as regarding the language, having these ballots printed in all these different languages, we need to make sure that we have one language. And then she says we don’t need any more state-run databases, which can be corrupted, like our voter rolls. And then regarding ID cards, and this is true. I don’t know if you realize that you can actually present a utility bill. as your idea to register or excuse me as your id to register to vote and as gammy says this is insane and so she’s pretty well nailed it and i appreciate you getting this over to me so quickly uh and uh she said um you need to well basically Now this is law in Colorado, but it is a real problem. So we are going to be writing about that in our Colorado Union of Taxpayers Ratings Report. And again, we would really recommend that you join us on that. And we have these discussions because I get to work with really amazing people. And a value partner of the Kim Monson Show is the Roger Mangut State Farm Insurance Team. And, Roger, I have some questions for you. Colorado had had the distinction, particularly the metro area, I think, of being in the top five regarding auto theft in the country. I haven’t heard any reports lately. What’s going on with that?
SPEAKER 15 :
Good question, Kim. I think what’s happening nationally is a good trend. Auto thefts in 2024 fell by one million fewer cars stolen. But what does that mean? Well, 850,000 vehicles were reported stolen today. And the national scene, we’ll talk about that for a second. Hyundai is still leading the charge with the Elante and the Sonata being the two most popular cars stolen. For example, out of 850,000, 31,712 were Hyundai Elantes and 26,000 were the Sonata. Not sure what the attraction is other than they usually are easier to steal. However, I think also there’s a pickup truck that is right behind them. It’s the Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup. It leads the list with 21,666 of those vehicles stolen. A piece of trivia… The number of registered cars in the United States? Unbelievable. 296,600,000 cars in the United States are registered. So when you think about, in context, the number of thefts, not too bad relative to the number of cars. But who would want to say… car stealing is not as bad as it used to be now what states lead colorado in 2021 was leading and we’re still in the forefront and of colorado today it’s still denver aurora lakewood then pueblo in that order denver aurora lakewood then pueblo In the state of Colorado, other cities, excuse me, in the United States, other cities that lead the charge are Albuquerque, New Mexico, New Mexico in general, and Oregon. So we have a big problem out west. You can surmise on your own why that is the case. I think a lot of cars, when they’re stolen, a lot of them are recovered. Those that aren’t recovered end up going usually south across the border into Mexico where they’re chopped up into parts, and some of them don’t have to go to Mexico to be chopped up into parts. If you took a car and dismantled, let’s say, a $20,000 car or a $40,000 car, if you chopped it up and sold parts, that $40,000 car could bring somewhere around $100,000 in cash to someone in the car chop market. If you ever go out and try to buy a part like a taillight for a car, it’s an assembly now, and it costs somewhere around $200 to $400 to buy a replacement lens. So if you steal a car, you start chopping it up and sell it piece by piece. It’s a very lucrative industry.
SPEAKER 12 :
And where does Colorado rank now regarding car thefts? Hmm.
SPEAKER 15 :
Colorado is number one in terms of car thefts in the United States. Now, some cities in various states, like Bakersfield, is still number one for car thefts. But Colorado is number one as a state. So be careful. You know, and you’ve heard this before. When you park your car, park it if it’s at night where it’s lit, well lit. Don’t ever leave your keys in your car. You’d be surprised how many people do. Don’t ever let your car run to warm up in the wintertime because there are thieves driving around looking for that opportunity. One other thing that you should be aware of, if your car is stolen, you come out, from work that day and you parked your car, you know where it was and it’s gone, obviously the first thing to do is report it to the police. One of the things that happens with your insurance policy, if you left your key in your car, you’re still going to have coverage. If you left it running, it’s still going to be covered. There isn’t any exclusion in terms of theft. One of the problems I think most people have is the value of the car. If you owe $21,000 on the car and the car is determined to have a value of $18,000, you could be out $3,000. So you’d be upside down when it goes to replace the car. What you can do if you have a lien on that car at the time of the lien, you can buy what’s called gap coverage. And gap coverage covers the deficit. That $3,000 I mentioned would be picked up by the loan company. if you bought that gap coverage at the time of the loan. And you might be able to add it if it’s within six months to a year of the purchase. So if you’re nervous about it, and you should be in Colorado, we have a lot of car theft, you might call whoever has that lien and see if you could add gap coverage and what that cost would be. So it’s a lot of carelessness on the part of the owner or the consumer of cars.

Well, it’s good to have you, Marlee Hornick, and I know you’ve been very busy. I watched the press conference that you had at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., a few weeks ago, where you specifically talked about Letitia James in New York and here in Colorado. Secretary of State Jenna Griswold and Attorney General Phil Weiser. But before we get into that, if people don’t know Unite for Freedom, explain what you’re doing exactly.
SPEAKER 14 :
Unite for Freedom is a election validity research outfit. We’re a nonpartisan nonprofit 501c4 organization that And we have a very simple approach to checking on the validity of federally or certified federal election results. We request the official list of registered voters and the official voter participation histories from their state custodians who maintain these lists on behalf of the American people, the citizens of their state and Congress. We check those lists for registration records that failed to meet reasonable standards of law, meaning they either do not demonstrate eligibility under state requirements or they do not demonstrate integrity of the data itself. We then take our extracted records and our reporting And we send all of that back to the chief election officials and ask for a line-by-line explanation of cause, in particular regarding not only the registrations in error but the votes that were counted from those registration records equally to registrants whose records do indicate eligibility under law. And then we also report on whether or not the results as certified by the state and reported publicly of the number of votes counted, correlates to the number of voters that they recorded as having participated. And then we, unfailingly, we hear nothing back from the state. So then we report the entire problem to federal and state law enforcement agents. including in this case in Colorado, Attorney General Phil Weiser. So again, these are not speculative claims. These are not statistical claims. These are individually extracted registration records from these official data sets. And we return them to their custodians with a line-by-line listing of every single registration record that has a material error, meaning you can’t, again, you can’t tell just by looking at the record whether or not the applicant or the registrant is legally valid, is actually qualified to vote in the United States of America. You have to investigate and correct the error before you can be certain. So that’s our process in a nutshell. We’ve also filed nine federal lawsuits against nine different states, including Colorado. And of course, the press conference that we held in D.C., we announced the filing of our amended petition in Colorado. So we have substantially improved the legal anchors for our arguments. And also our 2024 data shows that petitioner Ramey Johnson or plaintiff Ramey Johnson is has a very legitimate beef with the state regarding the administration of elections, particularly in Jefferson County. So that’s USA. That’s Unite for Freedom. We really we do very forensic, detailed work. We have a giant team, 95 credentialed and professional experienced software developers, big data auditors. who peer review each other’s work. We don’t want to mess anything up. We don’t want to make anything worse. We want to fix the problem. And yeah, we had this tremendous press conference announcing not only the filing of this amended petition in Colorado, but our upcoming lawsuit against New York State Attorney General Letitia James and the New York State Board of Elections for a conspiracy against the rights of the citizens of New York State.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, and good for you. So you’re focused really on New York and Colorado, right, at this particular point in time? I know you’re doing other work, but these are at the top of the list anyway.
SPEAKER 14 :
These are at the top of the list right now. And, yeah, we’re also working in other areas, but these are the two legal actions we’re pursuing immediately. We’re also… doing deep research all over the country that people can support by going to uniteforfreedom.com in terms of measuring through deep identity verification of voters whose votes were counted in 2024, measuring the actual percentages of apparently fictitious records in the nation’s voter rolls who are voting equally to qualified American citizens. despite the fact that they don’t exist.
SPEAKER 12 :
So let’s talk about, so at uniteforfreedom.com, and it’s the number four, unite4freedom.com, there is a whole bunch of information there. And you’ve got the 2022 scorecard for Colorado there. And so first of all, it took me a little while to understand this, but the voter rolls, it was an aggregate, had significant… problems. But then so you looked at that from an aggregate standpoint, and then also from a in 2022. And as I show this report to people, they don’t understand this. And it is a figure in 2022, a little over 58,000 people in Colorado voted before their registration date. And people say, Kim, I don’t understand that. How could that happen? So what do you say to that Marley Hornick?
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, I have the same question, and I’ve had that question since, I don’t know, 2021 in August when our work in New York uncovered the fact that 338,000 votes in New York’s 2020 election were counted, even though the state has no record of anybody casting them. So there’s massive questions. Massive questions all over the country, and that question in Colorado has never been addressed by Colorado election officials. It’s never been addressed by Colorado law enforcement, and it absolutely has to be discovered. How is that possible?
SPEAKER 12 :
So up until we, and when I say we, our listeners and followers stepped forward and raised the money so that United for Freedom could file this lawsuit. And And basically, we’ve been kind of back and forth then on what happens. I see this, I call it legal ping pong. But this amendment, tell us a little bit more so we understand the amended information on this lawsuit.
SPEAKER 14 :
Sure. There’s a couple of things we added. From a data perspective, we added our analysis of the 2024 election. in which we discovered the registration error rate in the voter rolls at the time the election was administered and certified was 29%, where federal law allows for a maximum error rate of 0.0008%. So roughly 10,000 times the amount of error tolerated by congressional statute. We added, you know, our specific line by line issues we discovered in the Colorado voter rolls. And of course, it’s not just registration issues. It’s voting. These records vote at a, you know, an outrageous number. I would say I’m looking for the total here. I’m looking at the lawsuit as we’re speaking. But I know that the total was over 50,000 votes counted. from records that the only way you can you look at them, you look at them with your eyes and you cannot tell if they’re actually qualified citizen voters. You have to look at them with your imagination, the imagination of an election official, apparently, to allow that these votes were legitimate. It doesn’t mean that they weren’t legitimate. It means that the records have to be updated and corrected in order for any reasonable American to have any faith whatsoever that this process was administered fairly. Just like all the people you’re seeing who have this question, how can people vote before they’re registered? Yeah, everybody has this question. How do they get away with this? And the kind of research that Unite for Freedom does is so unique. Because we’re not looking at the kinds of errors other people look at, you know, did the person move and their registration record wasn’t updated in a timely fashion. So our stuff is like, hey, how did this even happen in the first place? So that’s part of what was added to the amended petition is the 2024 data, which shows that as we predicted, the injuries Colorado voters sustained in 2022 were repeated in 2024. They were worse. And unless Griswold and Weiser do something about it, it’s going to continue and probably continue to get worse. The other thing that we added to the lawsuit from a data perspective was what I spoke about in regards to Jefferson County. So Again, your listeners, Kim, donated $7,000 to Unite for Freedom so that we could run a very deep dive analysis on whether people voting whose votes were counted in Jefferson County, Colorado in 2024 are legitimate voters. So we use qualified personnel to look into commercial identity verification tools. These are databases that banks and other major institutions rely on to verify the identity of loan applicants, of criminals that they’re trying to locate in time and space. Law enforcement uses these databases. They’re called skip tracing databases. They find people exactly in space and time. So we didn’t just check one database. We used three different commercially viable tools. And we looked up a sample. So this is like a biopsy, you know, like if you took the organs of Jefferson County and you sampled a biopsy of that tissue to try to figure out how diseased the whole system is. That’s what we did. We grabbed 608 voters, which is we used NIST or federal standards for randomization and statistical analysis. significance. And we studied whether or not we could find the voters at all. So based on our sample, 1,205 voters who voted in Jefferson County simply don’t exist. No database has a matching name, address, or date of birth for that voter. We found that 603 voters did not match the date of birth information listed in the Colorado voter rolls. We found that 5,991 times the address the voter voted from is not associated with the voter in skip tracing databases. So this is like a person report. Again, we don’t look at the person reports, qualified personnel look at these. So the data and the personal information is absolutely secure. But they’re reporting that, no, when they look at these person reports, that address the vote was counted from, voter never lived there. And, you know, there’s other issues here. We found that 1,205 voters were, their votes were counted, but they have no Social Security number. And then, oh, no, I’m sorry. That was no dates. We found that 19,836 voters whose votes were counted in Jefferson County only have no social security number. And we also found that 7,817 voters’ names, while they do have an association with the address they voted from, it is not within the election window, according to these very accurate, highly accurate commercial tools. We can’t find the person at that address within six months of the election. So these are massive problems, massive issues that have been added to the original petition. And it’s very, very material, which means legally significant, because Ramey Johnson lost her bid for the Colorado House of Representatives District 30 by 10,485 votes. But our prevalence study turns up a minimum of twenty two thousand three hundred and eighty nine suspected illegal votes counted. So Miss Johnson has a very legitimate grievance with the state if this, in fact, can be, you know, And here’s the question always, will they admit that there’s a problem? Will they grant her standing and United Sovereign Americans along with her? Finally, the other thing that we changed in the lawsuit, just to kind of give your listeners a little perspective, was a technical legal issue where what we had anchored the lawsuit in in 2024 failed in all the other states. And we had this opportunity in Colorado. to update the legal anchor. And the thing that really is exciting about it, and it’s actually really cool, is that on Monday, last Monday, one week ago, when we filed this amended petition, using the materiality clause of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as our legal anchor, in the Fifth Circuit of Texas, a court issued a ruling simultaneously, also issued on last Monday, August 4th, saying that Texas has a right to demand proof of identity and proof of citizenship included in the envelope with every mail-in ballot because it is material right. to determining the voter’s eligibility, meaning they used the exact same anchor in the Civil Rights Act and vastly expanded its authority. So it’s very exciting because right when we filed this argument, the federal courts acknowledged and expanded the use of this exact argument.

And welcome back. I’m talking with Marlee Hornick. She is a co-founder of Unite for Freedom, previously known as United Sovereign Americans. Why did you change the name on that, Marlee Hornick?
SPEAKER 14 :
Oh, I think that there’s not enough Americans yet who remember what the word sovereign means, and we kept getting… lumped in with people who believe that they have a right to drive around without license plates, and that’s their platform. So we just had to, in order to actually, honestly, we’ve been having tremendous success now getting to meet with state and federal legislators within, with attorneys within the DOJ, just from the name change. Apparently it was just a deal breaker. So We’re still United Sovereign Americans, but for now we’re operating as Unite for Freedom.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and I like that because freedom is, there’s a freight train that’s coming after our freedom, our liberty, our responsible exercise of freedom. President Trump has indicated he wants to get these elections cleaned up. And so how is that matching up with our lawsuits here in Colorado?
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, let’s just say that what we’re working to show the administration and the American people as Unite for Freedom is the only place, the only place you can find that has an actual plan for how to fix the problems in the elections. We’re the only organization that has actually shown. And just to be clear, what we’re looking at here is not a bunch of errors that are excusable or explainable. We’re looking at a penetrated system. And election infrastructure is critical infrastructure. So right now we’re working intensely within the government to help the national intelligence operation, national security infrastructure people, and also the civil rights and voting rights divisions understand that this is not like, how do I say it? This is not a bunch of excusable omissions that are just casually or trivially painting something, but then we just move on. We can’t act that way. It’s a matter of national security and sovereignty. So Unite for Freedom is the only organization that actually has studied and knows how to fix these problems. So we’re working to align and collaborate with the administration on actual solutions.
SPEAKER 12 :
So do you do you think that Pam Bondi, Department of Justice, is this the studies that you’ve done? Is that would that be grounds that she could also use for legal action?
SPEAKER 14 :
Absolutely. Yes. In fact, we were in D.C. last week recommending that very thing. It does take time, I think, to build trusted relationships. But fundamentally, using the Unite for Freedom reports across 32 states is the only way to fix the problem in advance of the midterm. And there are significant and very robust legal actions that should be taken, can be taken. And, you know, if it’s in my power, they will be taken. I am not a quitter. I’ve been doing this every day for four and a half years, and I’ve never taken a dime. I love my country, and we know how to solve this problem. We’re literally the only people in the country who’ve been studying it this deeply for this long.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and Marley, it’s just interesting how the good Lord brings people together. And one thing led to another. I had a listener that reached out who was volunteering with Unite for Freedom. And then I met some other people as well that was doing great work. Mike Cahoon, who’s been the Colorado director for Unite for Freedom, is really just a very thoughtful representative of the organization as well. But one thing led to another. which then ended up being on the show, a conversation, and that you had this information and presented it to Jenna Griswold. It did nothing because they didn’t have the legal teeth behind it because you’re a volunteer group and needed the money to file the lawsuit. And our listeners came together, and it’s because of them that we are now in this position in Colorado, and it all takes time. That lawsuit was filed last September. But I really want to give a shout out to the people of Colorado for what they’ve done to get us into this position because I think it’s huge.
SPEAKER 14 :
Absolutely. We would not be able to do any of this without support from other citizens. We are not, you know, some giant D.C. think tank. We don’t have endowments flowing our way. We don’t have any of this. We’re doing this by the shoestring, by the seat of our pants. And every $10, everything people can contribute actually is very, very much appreciated and critical to getting this work done. We can’t, you know, the citizens of this country, we can’t stand down on these issues any longer. We can’t assume that someone has this and that, you know, they’re going to figure it out, that there’s some, you know, plan. I can tell you from being in D.C., there is no plan here. We have the plan and the citizens were the ones who have to go to our governors and say, you know, this is our plan. Whether you’re on board or not, if you’re not on board, we’ll file these lawsuits. We’re going to keep going because you know what? This is simply not good enough. What’s going on with our elections is simply not good enough. And, you know, we’re supposedly defending inalienable rights. on earth for our future generations. And this is inane. You know, this is like if citizens submitted our taxes with a 14% or a 29% error rate, the IRS would not tolerate us saying that these are placeholder numbers. But we literally allow this to satisfy the earthly defenses of human liberty encapsulated in our Constitution. And this is an intolerable insult to America. We cannot tolerate this. If we give up, do you understand? If we give up, liberty will die. It’s just like if the French stopped making croissants, right? Or the Italians stopped making pasta. If Americans stop having liberty, it doesn’t exist anymore.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’s why we are our word of the day. It’s actually two words inflection point. We are at an inflection point in our state, in our country. I think Colorado is really at the tip of the spear on this. We’re going to continue the discussion with Marley Hornick. We sure can. And my prayers and my efforts every day are to make sure it happens. We definitely need support to keep that effort rolling. And we’re going to be filing, like I said, we’re going to be filing a lawsuit in New York, alleging that Attorney General Letitia James and the New York State Board of Elections and also various media outlets engaged in a conspiracy against the civil rights of New York state citizens. That’s our next lawsuit. And we’re also working, like I said, we’re in D.C. I’m actually in D.C. almost every week now, helping the administration and the people in positions who can actually unquestionably have standing to file these lawsuits, helping them understand the pathway we see, the solutions that we have, and work together to get this done quickly. So Yes, the answer is absolutely yes. This is entirely possible. It’s totally doable. It’s well within the law. And it really meets the concerns that some Americans will like the solution and some Americans will believe the solution is unfair to them. In fact, this secures faith in the 2026 election, in the 2028 and all subsequent federal elections. And it’s a solution that should bring all Americans back to the table and help us actually, you know, solve these massive crises we’re dealing with in American families, in our economy and foreign policy, all of these issues that just seem to balloon and balloon. And, you know, we see the behavior. It’s like, you know, the midterm is the pivot because you see what’s going on in Texas with these lawmakers who refuse to attend in order to redistrict Texas on civil rights basis. This is outrageous. Of course the midterm is the key.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and regarding these reports that you’ve done, so we did the Jefferson County voter biopsy, and you’d also done one in Orange County, California. And what… we’re learning is, is these irregularities can actually affect congressional seats, the number of congressional seats, which also affects the electoral college. So all of this is very connected. And I’ve got to think, Marlee Hornick, That the big, broad middle of Americans and that’s that’s your moderate Democrats, unaffiliated libertarians, Republicans, conservatives. We all want fair, honest and transparent elections. If we have that and our candidate does not win, so be it. That’s the way it works. But we I think the big, broad middle of America wants to have free, fair, honest and transparent elections here in Colorado. Secretary of State General Griswold has just said, we have the gold standard, pats everybody on the head and move along, nothing to see here. And she’s actually had help from Republicans on it as well. And so we’ve got to, what we’re doing is so important with this lawsuit. And we’ve got just a few minutes left, Marley. How would you like to wrap all this up?
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, I want to speak to that, this gold standard of elections concept. One of the things that we did last week with Unite for Freedom was attend the National Association of Secretaries of State conference down in Biloxi, Mississippi. And, you know, one of the things we in lots and lots of one-on-one discussions with secretaries of state, with election directors, we discovered that A lot of election officials are aware that they have anomalies. And what do they do? They go to the vendors and the vendors explain why that could have happened. You know, why were there 35,000 more votes counted than voters who voted? Oh, well, you see the data enters here and then all this stuff happens and then something else comes out the other side. But it’s the time lapse and it’s all of these other issues. What I want to say is that the secretaries of state are operating under this idea of like best practices elections. So if they’re applying the best practices and they’re meeting with their vendors and understanding, you know, oh, it makes sense that these problems exist in their mind. They are at the gold standard. But the problem is it’s not good enough. The problem is best practices is not the same thing as a legally compliant election. And for some reason, the more of these anomalies exist and the longer we apply these best practices, the more radical progressive our country becomes. So you do the math. This is, you know, this is what they all say. The good ones, the ones you think are rotten, the ones you think are, you know, they all say the same thing. And so this is, again, why we, the American people, have to come out. We have to participate as volunteers with Unite for Freedom, bringing the resolution for a legally valid 2026 election to all of our representatives across Colorado and across this country. We have to keep filing lawsuits. We have to keep doing their reports. And we have to keep the administration and all of our representatives on the hook, understanding that we will never back down until we have a legally valid process for choosing representatives in Congress. And that’s it. That’s what we have to do. And, you know, what’s the alternative? You say, well, that’s too much work. What’s the alternative? I’ll tell you, it’s very unpleasant.
