What starts as a health segment with Dr. Kelly Victory and Steve House turns into a powerful public service announcement from host John Rush. After fielding listener texts and sharing his own strong opinions, John dives into the serious topic of why back-to-school pictures can be dangerous to share online. With real-life examples and even some light cyber-sleuthing, he illustrates how predators can exploit innocent social media posts.
Later in the episode, a caller shares his experience with “grounding sheets,” which leads to a debate over pseudoscience, body electricity, and whether it’s all just in our heads. John gives his
SPEAKER 17 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 14 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes.
SPEAKER 17 :
With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 07 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did.
SPEAKER 14 :
Get a job, sir. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 06 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 14 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 13 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 12 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Great first hour, by the way, with Dr. Kelly Victory and Steve House. Question of the day. What percent of homeowners believe there’s a direct link between their home’s tidiness and their well-being?
SPEAKER 1 :
78%.
SPEAKER 12 :
Both yesterday, Al Smith and Charlie guessed around 60%. It’s actually 78%. That was a survey of over 2,000 households, and that’s exactly what they came back with. So today’s possible question answers on our Facebook page. When was the first rechargeable battery invented? When was the first rechargeable battery invented? And let me just give you all a hint. A lot longer than most people are going to think. I’ll just give you that hint. A lot longer than most people think. So going back to our first hour, the last hour, and talking about sleep and all of that, and I asked Charlie as we were coming back in to break, as my wife will admit this, will tell you this, I’m one of those, when it comes to sleep, I see it as a necessary evil. And I’m sorry, I’m not somebody who looks forward to sleep. I look at it as, okay, I got to go do this. I’ll get it done, get it out of the way. Yes, I know I need it. I need to get my batteries recharged, and I know it’s for your health, and I’ve done all of the things on this show through health and wellness, and I understand how important sleep is, a good night’s sleep. I get that. But even with all of that, I just see it as something that has to be done. It’s not something I enjoy. I’ll just be straight up honest. You do it because you have to in my world. And if I could avoid it, if I could figure out a way to stay up all night, no, I’m not going to take drugs and speed and all those different things to stay up all night. But if I could, and if there were a way to stay up all the time and never sleep, that would be me. There’s so much other things to do and enjoy and have fun with and so on that I guess for me, I just feel like there’s other things to do besides sleeping. That’s me, and I know I’m unique and I’m weird. Charlie says it all the time. He knows I’m weird, but that’s my look on sleep. I do it because you have to and your battery has to recharge. That doesn’t mean that I don’t go to bed at night tired and things like that at times, but I’m just saying if there were a way to avoid it, I would. Because to me, and I know God made us to where we’re supposed to rest and sleep, and it’s how our bodies are made, and we have to recharge, and it’s helpful for our brains, and it’s a core thing that we have to do. We have to get rest. Otherwise, we just can’t survive. Our bodies won’t last. And I will say this, as I’ve gotten older, used to have to do all sorts of all-nighters back in the day, depending upon what I was doing work-wise, business-wise, I should say. I don’t recover from all-nighters like I used to. Used to be back when I was younger, you could do an all-nighter and I could be recovered in a day or two. Anymore, if I do an all-nighter, it’s stinking two weeks before I feel normal again because I’m not as young as I used to be. But is that John? John and Cheyenne, you’re next.
SPEAKER 03 :
Hey, first things first, T-Mobile, Starlink. It’s phenomenal, John. I was in the Cloud Peak Wilderness, and yesterday I got nine texts when I took my phone out of airplane. I usually put it in airplane mode to save the battery when I’m using it for navigation. And I took it out of airplane mode, and I got nine texts within about two minutes of it connecting to the satellite.
SPEAKER 12 :
Awesome. That is really cool, John. It really is. That’s a great testimonial.
SPEAKER 03 :
And I signed my wife up for it, too, because I did the beta test, and then you had to sign up for it. It was an additional $10 a month per line, which is not a whole lot for safety.
SPEAKER 12 :
No, it’s not.
SPEAKER 03 :
She took hers out of airplane mode and got and sent a handful of texts. So for safety reasons alone, when you’re in a no-shell area, I would definitely tell anybody that it’s worth the $10 a month.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’s cool. Very good to know. Well, like I was telling you, as a company, we’re looking at some of that, trying to decide should we make some changes and so on. And they’ve got some very – how should I say this? They’ve got some very entertaining things to look at.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. They’re fighting to get you off of Verizon or AT&T. Yes, they are. They want to be the number two or number one, and those two are one and two.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 03 :
But they want to move up. So I texted you. About a year and a half ago, I was – mindlessly scrolling through, I don’t know, Instagram, and I came across some guy that started talking about grounding sheets. And I listened. And then, of course, you know, if you listen to a full two-minute video anywhere, you’re going to get 20 more.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, yes, absolutely.
SPEAKER 03 :
And I looked at a couple of them, and this one guy said that he was the one that invented it. I don’t know if it was true or not. I was skeptical because I’m a skeptic. And he said, go test it yourself. So the weather was okay. I went outside. I took my shoes off, and I put them on the ground, the bare ground. And he said, take one end of a multimeter, stick it in the ground, and put the other in your hand and put it on continuity. And it went from an open circuit, and it started dropping. So I don’t know.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, so let me think about that. So you went outside, you stood on the dirt or on concrete?
SPEAKER 03 :
On dirt. On dirt. On the actual earth.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, so then you stuck one end of your probe into the ground? Right. And one end, and then you hung on to one with your fingers or something, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
Right.
SPEAKER 12 :
And the multimeter did what?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, it was on open circuit, you know, the zero, when you’re doing a continuity test.
SPEAKER 11 :
So you’re doing Ohm’s test.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, an Ohm’s test. Okay. And the numbers started dropping down. It didn’t go all the way down to zero, but it dropped. Like, there was resistance, but not a lot of resistance.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, because you’re not going through your body. You’re going from the ground through your body back to the other probe that’s a few inches away from wherever you’re standing. That would make total sense. I mean, that’s just the way that would work. That’s the law, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, right. So this guy’s saying if you do that with your body, you’re releasing your body’s electrical charge.
SPEAKER 12 :
He’s full of crap.
SPEAKER 03 :
I thought it was…
SPEAKER 12 :
Sorry. I’m sorry. I’m calling BS on it. Now, everything we talked about in the last hour, I’m not going to disagree with some of those things that were happening, some of the things even Steve talked about and so on. I’m not saying there’s not some validity to that end of it, but as far as discharging your body, if you discharged it, you’d have a heart attack and die because there’s electric current running through your body at all times period. There’s no way to discharge your body. The guy’s full of crap saying that.
SPEAKER 03 :
So he says that it releases built-up energy.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, so here would be the way to finish that test up. I’m not an electrician, but I do understand enough about electricity and how it works to know this. Here would be the real test. You do what you just said. You go ahead and, quote, unquote, you know, do your discharge. You stand out there. You do your ohms check. Then what you need to do is turn your multimeter back over to millivolts. So before you do any of this, by the way, check the millivolts between one finger and another. So you do a finger on the left hand. You have two fingers left hand, two fingers right hand. See what the millivolts are. Then go do that test of what he said. Then go back and test the millivolts again, and I guarantee you there’s no difference.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right. So I said, what the heck? They were… I think it was a hundred bucks on Amazon, a hundred percent Egyptian cotton sheet woven with copper strands. And you plug in one end of it to the sheet and the other end, you put in the grounding socket on your socket. And I plugged it in and I, I don’t know, maybe like you said, it was psychosomatic, but I sleep better on a grounding sheet. Now what they’re saying is you’re releasing the built up,
SPEAKER 12 :
electrons in your body and it helps you my electrician friend is saying is you’re not doing anything in your body but what’s on your body clothing things like that you may very well be discharging and doing that but internally you’re doing zero OK, well, and then, by the way, that one, that one, I could buy the things that might be surrounding you or the things even that have collected upon you, because, yes, your body, your hair, things like that could build up some electrons that I get. But internally, knowing that there’s a certain amount of electricity you need just to run your I mean, for example, for all of you listening, what do you think a pacemaker does?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, it uses electricity to control your heart rate.
SPEAKER 12 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 03 :
I’m not saying it’s good or bad. I’m just saying that I have slept better. And I’m not a great sleeper anyway. I have slept better since I’ve been sleeping on those.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
Maybe it’s all in my head.
SPEAKER 12 :
No, and again, I’m not saying that there’s non-validity to what you guys are talking about. You know, externally, sure, getting some of that electricity, those electrons, the things that are surrounding you. And by the way, I do think – this is just a side note as well. I think depending upon your environment, you may build up more electricity than others. For example, and I’m not – each of you do whatever you want to. I’m an anti-carpet guy. I hate carpet. For those of you that have it, great, love you. to do but I hate carpet John I hate it because it’s dirty it gets dirty you’re taking care of it more than you are a regular you know hardwood or a tile type floor so I’m a guy that in our house we have other than a couple of throw rugs zero carpet so in my world I’m not sure how much static electricity you’re really building up because I’m not on carpet hardly ever John I think you’re channeling my wife because we have the same thing and what’s funny is we came off the trail and there’s a hotel just
SPEAKER 03 :
kind of changed the subject that’s pet friendly in buffalo wyoming and all their pet friendly friendly rooms are lbt no carpet which is nice nice that is nice you don’t have to worry about the dog before whatever they did you know if they even if they just laid and left their dander the pet friendly rooms have no carpet so they can get them nice and clean
SPEAKER 12 :
No, and again, now I’m that guy because of, A, what I do. You know, I want things clean. Kind of going back to the question of the day, I want to have things clean, and I have just found hard surfaces. And it took me a while. You know, the house I bought was a used house, so it took me a while to actually go through and change all of the flooring in the house out. Didn’t do it all at once, but over time got rid of all of the carpet. Now, I will say this. After not having, John, any carpet, I’ll never go to a house with carpet again.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, if you’re going to buy a house with carpet, you’re going to, before you move in, have it replaced.
SPEAKER 11 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 03 :
And you know what? The hardwood lasts longer, or the LVT, I don’t know what the life expectancy is. We have all hardwood, and we love it because it’s hardwood. And, you know, yes, if you drop something the wrong way, you may get a scratch. But what are you going to do? If you drop something the wrong way on carpet, you’re going to get a rip.
SPEAKER 12 :
Right, right. And again, my electrician friend just texted me and said, you know, it’s Bill. Bill joins me on Ready Radio on Fridays, Bill Anderson. And so what Bill is saying is there’s all sorts of ways you can release that electricity that’s on your body. It can be through grounded sheets. It could be through some other ways. He agrees with me. There’s nothing internally you’re ever going to change as far as this is concerned. But externally, sure, absolutely.
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, I don’t know. I… Read it. I saw these couple of things. I looked at some stuff and I just said, what the hay? It’s 100 percent Egyptian cotton sheet anyway, which are good quality sheets. I’ll give it a try, see if it works. And I found that I sleep a little better on it.
SPEAKER 12 :
That makes sense. That makes sense. You know what? And again, I think for all of you listening, you do whatever you do, whatever makes it better for you to sleep. And I think, John, even going back to Dr. Kelly’s comment about green noise, white noise, they talk about gray noise now. I mean, the reality is whatever works for you could be temperature, could be you name it. I’m one of those where… Where I can handle some light, my wife can’t handle any light. Now, when it comes to noise, I’m a guy where I don’t like any noise. You know, I can have a fan or something like that running in the background, but I don’t like a ton of noise. I’m a very light sleeper. So what I’m getting at, John, is you got to do you and whatever makes you sleep well, do so.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, yeah. Well, that’s like when we’re out backpacking. I’ll fall into it. I have trouble sleeping. Anybody who has ever slept in a sleeping bag on an air mattress knows it’s not the greatest sleep you’re going to get.
SPEAKER 12 :
No, it is not.
SPEAKER 03 :
But I’ll always get three or four good hours, and then it’s like flip over, fall asleep for an hour, flip over, fall asleep. You know what I mean. But I will tell anybody that is going backpacking or camping, the best investment you can make is with a pillow. Do not use a rolled up parka inside a stuff sack.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, good point.
SPEAKER 03 :
Use a pillow.
SPEAKER 11 :
Good point.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, there’s some really good ones out there on Amazon. I use Trekology, the brand, for less than $30. And what I like the most about the ones I got, it has a strap attached to it that goes around the top of your air mattress so you’re not chasing it all. Cool, cool. 30 bucks. I mean, if you’re going camping and you’re going to camp in a tent and sleep on an air mattress, invest in a decent pillow.
SPEAKER 12 :
Good stuff. John, as always, man, I appreciate it. Thanks for all of that, and I’ll let you go. Bill, thanks for texting as well. Great topic, something that I think even Dr. Kelly and I and Steve can touch on in the future again. So whoever texted that in, by the way, thank you for that question. That became a really good topic for today, and I appreciate that greatly. Golden Eagle Financial is next. Al did a great interview here of late. Hang tight. We’ll come back right after that. Golden Eagle Financial, find them at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 05 :
TJ with KLZ. And again, I am with Al Smith from Golden Eagle Financial. Al, we talk a lot about how relational you are with your clients. Why don’t you take us through what an initial visit might look like, whether that’s in the office or over a Zoom call or whatever that is. What does that look and feel like for one of your clients?
SPEAKER 02 :
Well, first we kind of get to know one another a little bit, have a little bit of small talk. And once we move slightly beyond that, I often ask a question, what is your and your spouse’s greatest concerns as you move into toward retirement?
SPEAKER 05 :
What do you think people’s main fear is when they come to see you and how do you help to quell that with them?
SPEAKER 02 :
Many of the people who come in have been listening to me on the radio for years. And often there is some event that the reason they want to talk to me. Maybe they have concerns about taxes. It may be they’re concerned about the volatility of the stock market. And so by asking them about their concerns, we can zero in specifically. Because usually people have something on the back of their minds as the reason that they came in rather than having a cookie cutter form that I complete for everybody. I try and dive in more specifically to what is an individual or a couple’s primary concern that brought them in the office.
SPEAKER 05 :
We love that relational aspect and we love Al Smith from Golden Eagle Financial. Al, why don’t you tell folks how to get in touch with you for that meeting?
SPEAKER 02 :
Easy way, 303-744-1128. If you’re driving, you can reach me through KLZ. KLZ has all my contact information. And once you reach out to them, they will reach out to me and I will contact you by phone or email so that we can have that conversation, whether it’s on a Zoom or a long phone conversation or here at the office.
SPEAKER 05 :
Excellent, Al. Thanks for joining us. Of course, you can find Al on klzradio.com slash money. Al, thank you so much.
SPEAKER 02 :
Well, thank you, TJ. Look forward to our next conversation.
SPEAKER 15 :
Putting reason into your afternoon drive. This is John Rush.
SPEAKER 12 :
All right, trying to answer as many text messages through the breaks as I possibly can. They’re rolling in faster than I can get them answered. So if I answered you with just a one-word answer, that’s why I’m doing my best to try to get you guys answered and handled. I did have several of you actually text in and say that. You agree with me on the sleeping thing. It’s a necessary evil. You do it because you absolutely have to, but don’t look forward to it any more than I do. So thank you, by the way, for that. And, again, some of you that I haven’t gotten back to, I will do my very best to get to you as quickly as I can. All right, before we do anything else, though, one thing that I was going to do today, because I’ve even promoted this, is the back-to-school picks. I do this every year. And it never fails that, you know, and I will say this, my own family has evidently been listening because my family and what I’ve seen them post when it comes to the back-to-school pictures is very generic like it should be. So thank you, family, for listening. For all of you that aren’t my family, that evidently haven’t listened to me, please tune in. And you may even want to go back and change some of the pictures you may have already put up on social media. So back-to-school pics. First of all, they need to be extremely, extremely generic, meaning if you want to take a picture somewhere, I wouldn’t even take a picture of my house with my address, and I would be very generic even with your house. Maybe you want to take it in front of your garage door where nobody even – that garage door looks like every other garage door in the neighborhood. Nobody would even be able to pick your house out. Last thing you want to do is publicize where you live. That’s me personally. Each person can do whatever they want, but I think that – Not putting as much out, in other words, putting as little out as possible is the right answer. Do not, and I repeat, do not put anything in that picture that would tie your kid to their school. I mentioned this the other day. I saw a post the other day of somebody that I know, and I will probably handle this on a one-on-one basis. I don’t want to embarrass them in the post. But in this particular situation, I believe, again, it was either a three- or four-year-old going to preschool. They’re holding up the little sign that says, you know, here’s my name and here’s where I’m going to go to school and here’s my teacher and here’s what I love and blah, blah, blah. Here’s my favorite thing. Here’s this. Here’s that. Everything you just posted on social media tells someone this is how you can steal your kid. Here’s their interests. Here’s what they like. Here’s their teacher’s name. Here’s where they’re going to go to school. You know, it only takes about a 60-second search of that particular school to determine when does school start, when does school end, where is that particular classroom. I mean, on and on we go. So I’ll give you an example. And no, I’m not a creeper, but I did this just as an example. So I was scrolling through my social media today through Facebook and happened to see somebody that posted their child going back to school. Now, at first, I thought, okay, this isn’t a bad picture. It shows the little girl. She’s in fifth grade, and she looks pretty innocent, and she’s standing in front of what looks like a school building, and there’s nothing else there. Now, here’s the unfortunate part. I could see in the glass behind the little girl a little sign. And I thought, hmm, what does this sign say? So I clipped that little picture out. I blow the sign up, and it’s the teacher’s name. So it only took me about three minutes to do a search in the city that I know Mom lives in because Mom has that on her Facebook page. It takes me about three minutes to do a search in the city of this particular teacher’s name, finding the color of the school. And I could see even from a Google Street View where this school is at. So even with something that seemed as innocent as that was, I was able to determine where this little girl goes to school, and I could then determine what are the hours of school, when’s she going to be there, so on and so forth. Folks, and I’m not a creeper, I’m just telling you, this is how this works. This is how easy it is for people to find where your kid is. And if you value your kids like I do, by the way, I value every one of your kids. And the last thing I would ever want happening to a child is to have any of them be abducted and being put in harm’s way. So I am saying this now to try to help any of that from happening. There are so many creepers and weirdos out there. And some of you are, again, I said this the other day, some of you are thinking, well, I know who all my friends are on Facebook are. Do you? Do you? I don’t think you do. Sorry, but no, you don’t. In this particular case, this particular individual who I happen to be an acquaintance with, I don’t know this individual on a personal level. I have almost 5,000 friends on Facebook because of what I do here on the radio. And this particular person probably has, I think, had 2,500. There’s no way this person knows intimately 2,500 people. No one can. No one can. Period. You might think you do. No, you don’t. You have 2,500 acquaintances. You don’t have 2,500 intimate friends. There’s no way. That is an impossibility. It can’t happen. There’s physically not enough time. There’s not enough ability to know 2,500 people intimately. It’s why great leaders surround themselves with maybe a dozen people that they get to know intimately, and that’s about it. They don’t know even all of their fans and followers intimately. It can’t. You can’t. It’s impossible. It’s why in great organizations, the CEO or the president will have those people around them that they know very well, and then all those people know somebody around them very well, and those people know somebody, and you get my drift. It pyramids down. There’s no way that that CEO can know. If they have a company that’s got 2,000 or 3,000 people, even 2,000 or 300 people, it would be hard for them to know each person intimately. They might know their names at a few hundred, by the way. They’re not even knowing all their names when it gets to be 1,000 or more. It’s impossible. So those of you out there that think, well, I don’t have that many friends. I’ve only got a few hundred. Do you know each one of them personally? Could you vouch for each one of them personally? If somebody called you on the phone and said, hey, I see that your friend’s on Facebook with so-and-so, so-and-so, can you vouch for their, you know, can you verify that they’re really a good, solid person? And, you know, we’re doing a background check on them. How well do you know them? Knowing that whatever you tell them is going to go into their file to tell whether this person is really solid or not. You know what your answer is going to be? Well, I don’t know them that well. I can’t vouch for them at all. I don’t know them that well. Okay, yet, yet, yet, you’re putting all this personal information out there about your own kids, and yet you can’t vouch for that person. This is why I say the things that I do every single time school starts back up. I’ve been doing this now for years. And it gets a little better every year, although I just gave you an example of where it still needs fixed. There’s still stuff being put out there that shouldn’t be. And it seems innocent enough. Well, I’m just congratulating my child. I’m recognizing that they’re going off to school and I’m proud of them and so on and so forth. You know what? Here’s what I would suggest. Don’t put any of that crap on Facebook. Keep it to yourself. If you want to share some things between grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, whatever, you know what? You know their email. You know their text. You can do a group chat even and send all of that to them directly if you want to. You don’t need to put it on Facebook. And I’ll give you a little, just as a side note, I’ll give you another tip. Outside of your close family and friends, no one cares. Sorry, I’ll break the news to you. No one cares. You care. Your intimate family cares. Your intimate friends care. No one else cares. So you putting up that your kid’s going back to school, I’m going to break the news to you. No one cares. You do. Those close friends do. No one else does, though. So why do you post it in the first place? Who cares? And the chances of you putting something out there that’s going to put your kid in danger is so high. Why would you do that? Don’t. Don’t. It’s not necessary. You can congratulate your kid in a gazillion other ways. You can start a family album that certain people can be joined into now, where you can have them join into the picture club and this, that, and the other, and they all can share and talk and comment and so on. And that’s great. Do that. Have fun. But you do not need to put it on social media. I’m just going to say straight up, the best rule in all of this is stop posting your kid going back to school, period. It’s not wise. And the amount of effort that goes into making sure that you’re being as secretive as possible when it comes to that picture becomes extremely difficult as time goes by. It’s just not worth it. Last night, my wife and I, we play trivia at a place nearby our house every Wednesday night. And as we were sitting there, there was a Amber Alert that went out for a 14-year-old girl in our neighborhood that had been missing, came up missing, and it was an immediate thing where they wanted to find her right away. I don’t know exactly what the situation was, but they gave a description of who it was and so on. And I’m thinking about that as I’m thinking about today’s topic because nobody wants to have anything happen to anybody of that age. no matter what the circumstances are. I don’t care if she ran away. You still don’t want that. You want to make sure that she is safe at all costs. Luckily, about a half an hour later, they found her, put out another report that they had found her. Everything was good. That’s great. That’s what we want to hear. The last thing you want to hear is that something happened and that person now has had some sort of harm done to them or they’re dead, God forbid. So for all of you listening that have kids or grandkids or have relatives that have kids or grandkids, And they somehow feel the necessity to post their kids. And I get it. They want to go back in time and they want to look at when junior went to preschool and then in kindergarten and first, second, third, fourth. You get it all the way up until they’re now seniors in high school. OK, that’s great. You can now guess what, though, with everything being digital now, you can track that inside of your own folders on your own phone. You don’t have to put it on social media. And again, no one cares. You care. No one else does. So since you’re the only one that cares, keep it to yourself. And I know that sounds really harsh, and I sound like I’m an ogre. I want your kid safe. I’ll go as far as to say this. I think I care more about your kids sometimes than you guys do. Because I wouldn’t post what you do. I wouldn’t put up there what you guys do. Now, I get it. Most of my listeners, I’m preaching and talking to a lot of other people out there, not my listeners, because you’re all smart enough not to do this. Unfortunately, because I can see it on my own Facebook feed, unfortunately, there’s still a lot of people out there that aren’t very smart. And again, I’m not saying they’re not smart because they’re not smart. In some cases, they’ve never heard me or someone like me talk about the things that I’m talking about, and they’re doing it out of innocence. They just don’t know any better. And unfortunately, they don’t understand, or I think they probably do, but they’re not thinking about how cruel the world is and how many people there are out there that would love to abduct your kids. And I’m sorry to say that, but that is the world that we live in. There are people out there that it’s their single job to go find your kid, abduct them, and put them into whatever type of fantasy land they have and or sex slave trade they’re involved in or whatever the case may be. Yes, those people exist. In fact, I’ve interviewed numerous people that talk about how internally in this country the sex slave business is as big as it is from what was coming in over the border. Just internally in the country, the kids that are abducted, that are put into the slave trade and so on, the sex slave trade, how big that is. I’ve talked about that on this program, by the way, for a decade now. So the last thing we want is anything like that happening to any of your kids. And it’s not just because you have a little girl or a little boy. This can be either way. It doesn’t matter. Little boys, little girls doesn’t make a hell of a bit of difference. Those individuals that are looking for these kids, they don’t care. And I’ll say this as well. They don’t care if they’re 5 or 15. They don’t care even if they’re 18. I would even be hesitant in this day and age to put where my kids are going to go to college and what dorm they’re going to be in and, and, and. That’ll happen next, you know, well, happening now as people send their kids back to college. But there’s less of that because most of the time the college kids don’t like that and they’ll tell mom and dad don’t do that. Unfortunately, though, they do. And they have multiple friends and sometimes acquaintances. Keep this in mind as well. There’s a lot of people on Facebook that are fake. They don’t even pretend to be one of your friends. They may even slip through the cracks of becoming your friend because you think it’s somebody that you don’t already have as a friend, and you accept them, and now you’ve let this monster into your world, and they’re seeing all sorts of things that are private that you don’t even allow the public to see. But because of one little slip, they’re now inside. There’s so many things I could go down this path on. There’s a guy that I follow. He’s been on a lot of different podcasts. And this guy never graduated high school even. He is a professional hacker on the good side. He’s not on the bad side. He’s on the good side. Thank you, Charlie. White hat, white hacker, whatever they call it. White hat hacker. And he talks about how easy it is to not only get into your personal data, your personal computer, your personal Wi-Fi at your house, but he talks about how easy it is to get into your social media. and find everything that you’ve posted. How easy that is to happen because of what I just said. It could be posing as a friend that’s not a friend. All he did was copy X amount of pictures off of another friend’s Facebook page, creates a profile. All of a sudden, you’ve accepted him as a friend, and he’s now in. And he talks about publicly how easy it is to deceive people to make this happen. And the problem is we’re all not safe enough especially with our kids when it comes to some of these things that we post. So my advice when it comes to the back-to-school pictures or the back-to-school whatever posts, just don’t do it. Stop. Stop posting it. If you have posted it, take it down. Delete it. Get rid of it completely. Tell your family and friends why. Tell them you heard me talking about these things and you just don’t want that out there. You don’t want the risk of it. Because for me personally, not talking about this, for me who I know about these things and know this stuff can happen, I can’t live with myself not talking about this. More and more people need to know what I’m talking about and stop doing it. So those of you that are listening, that have family, friends, co-workers, and so on, in a very nice, non-rude way, tell them don’t do this for all the reasons I’ve mentioned today. If you’ve got comments on that, send me a text message, 307-200-8222. You can call in directly. We’ve got time left through the show, through this hour as well, 303-477-5600. Mile OnlineCoin is next. All right. Michael Bailey, he is our mobile estate planner. Make sure you’re dialed in today when it comes to your estate plan. Michael will come to you. He is our mobile estate planner. Find him at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 16 :
Michael Bailey, the mobile estate planner, has the key to wisely protecting your college-aged kids. Think about it. If your kiddo goes off to college and gets hurt, the hospital won’t let you make decisions for them because at age 18 and above, they are technically an adult. What if they’re unconscious? Will a doctor let you make healthcare decisions for an adult and stay informed about their medical condition? No. Before they’re 18, it’s a given. You can make those decisions. But after 18, there is typically no spouse and protect your kids by getting your power of attorney appointment set up today.

SPEAKER 17 :
Live and local, back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 12 :
All right, and I will read a few of the text messages that came in on this topic because there is a lot of you. that feel the same way about this that I do. One of them was talking about how it’s not just parents, but grandparents will take that same picture, copy it, repost it. You know how that works. They can take that same image. They can take that post and repost it or redo it or whatever you do on social media, depending on what platform you’re on. And all of a sudden, they’re sharing what mom and dad just put out, knowing then that everybody grandma and grandpa are associated with now can see little junior. And keep in mind, nothing against Grandma and Grandpa, but they’re even more susceptible to having people scam them and have friends and so on that aren’t really friends than probably anyone because they understand technology less than even you do. So my best advice, and a lot of you are agreeing with me on this, just don’t post. Just leave those off. In fact, when it comes to personal things that you put on Facebook, especially in general, don’t do it. Somebody else said that, you know, it’s gotten to the point where everybody’s identity is off of how many likes they get on Facebook. That includes the high school kids that are out there. Their entire identity is based upon their likes. Yes, I would agree with you wholeheartedly on that. Somebody also said that obituaries. I never thought about this. Be careful even what you put in an obituary. That everything you put in an obituary, as you roll down through the whole family tree, that can also lead to some things. So this person’s recommendation is, why do you need an obituary in the first place? If there’s people that you know need to know that so-and-so died, reach out, tell them directly, but really, why do you need an obituary? In this day and age, you don’t. You have the ability. It used to be back in the old days, you’d put that in so everybody in town would know that so-and-so died. Well, with social media today, do you really need to put out there that so-and-so died in an obituary? Honestly, no, you don’t. And thank you. I hadn’t thought of that one, by the way. I think about a lot of these other things. When my mom died, we didn’t do an obituary. Honestly, didn’t do it because of that. We did it just because we had so many other things to take care of with my dad and everything else that, honestly, we – I’m sorry to say this. We just didn’t get around to doing it. Now that we didn’t, though – I’m glad we didn’t. Thank you for actually saying that because I wouldn’t have thought of that at the time, and that’s another piece of great advice. All right. Somebody also was talking about the cell phones in the room and our specialists that we have had on and so on. So thank you, by the way, for agreeing with me on that one. I’ve got so many text messages. I’m trying to read these and talk at the same time. I apologize. That’s not always the easiest thing for me to do. Bottom line is… You guys are all agreeing with me, especially on the kids being on Facebook, the back-to-school pictures for kids, and the fact that they just don’t need to be there. Bottom line, they don’t need to be there. Go ahead, Charlie. Yeah, and, yeah, thank you, Charlie. No shower, no bathtub picks, those sorts of things. You know, swimsuits, all of that kind of stuff. I’ve had conversations. My kids and I have even talked about these things, and they don’t do any of this, by the way, because of what we’re just talking about. But, yeah, these are things that the perverts of the world love to see. And at the end of the day, we don’t need to see those things. Again, these are things that you can keep to yourself very easily that you do not need to share with the general public. And I know I rant and rave about this all the time, but again, several of you saying thank you, thank you, thank you for saying this. Most people don’t hear this enough. They tend to just think that everybody on Facebook that they’re quote-unquote friends are Mr. and Mrs. Nice Guy and nobody’s ever going to do anything nefarious. Bottom line, you have no idea who you’re friends with on Facebook. You just don’t. Now, am I saying don’t use social media? No, I’ve never said that. I mean, you can put up there whatever you want to put up there. I, for example, am a person where if I put something on Facebook, even if it has to do with you took a trip, you did a vacation, you did an event, something along those lines. Here’s what I do, though. I never do it immediately. Sometimes what I put up might be a week later. Again, because people then don’t know what you did and where you were doing it at that exact time. I know people, though, that the minute they’re doing something, it’s on social media. Yeah, Charlie, thank you. They know you’re not home when you post those things. So I know people that will live stream. You know, we’re at a concert. We’re live streaming. Okay, well, you think that everybody out there that’s watching that live stream knows now you’re not home? They do. So I would not do that, frankly. That’s just my advice. I would not do that, especially when it involves not being at your home. Now, if you’ve got house sitters or something along those lines, that might be different. But, again, you’re still telling people you’re not home. Somebody else is in charge. And depending upon what all they see on your social media and you’ve got a 13-, 14-year-old kid that’s watching the 10- and 8-year-old, which can happen, by the way, and you’re not home, they know that also. So, again, do you want to risk that? My point is people put far too much out there. Stop doing that, and everybody will be a lot safer when it’s all said and done. All right, we’ll catch up on breaks. Sorry for going so long in that first and second segment. Cub Creek Heat and Air Conditioning up next. And at Cub Creek, they are there to help you with all of your air conditioning needs. SPEAKER 16 :
The summer season is still grinding on, but your air conditioner is not. So it’s time to call Cub Creek. They love getting calls for second opinions because they can usually give you some good news and fix the problem for less. They don’t buy into upselling, and they believe that an air conditioner should last the longest time possible. That’s why they won’t move right to replacement if it’s possible to repair it. They understand the incentives and rebates better than most, and that means if you don’t need to replace it, they’ll work with you on figuring out the most beneficial way to repair it. Don’t wait until it’s an emergency, when you’ll have to wait in the heat. Get our Rheem-certified pro partner Cub Creek Heating and AC out for a free quote fast. The big beautiful bill ends all tax credits for solar and backup power on December 31st of this year. Until then, you can still get 56% back on solar and 66% on backup power. If you’re with Xcel Energy, your backup power is nearly 100% reimbursed. Colorado has all this sunshine, and the government is still paying for most of the cost. Your system must be installed and running before December 31st to qualify for the tax credits and rebates. Call Allen Davis today at 303-378-7537. That’s 303-378-7537.
SPEAKER 15 :
Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 12 :
All right, thanks for listening. I didn’t want to spend as much time on the back-to-school picks as we did, but so many of you texting in and adding to, and I appreciate that, by the way. I always know that hits a hot spot, and for a lot of you, and here’s my fear, a lot of you listening know this, and probably even share these things with your friends and family, which I appreciate. Unfortunately, we don’t have this word out enough, and I really wish the schools themselves… would do a better job of letting people know that, hey, by the way, school’s about to start. I know a lot of you want to do your back to school pictures and post it on social media. We would advise you to not do that for this reason, this reason, and this reason. A lot of the things that I’ve just gone over, by the way, in the last 15 to 20 minutes. I wish schools would do that. Problem is, and I’m sorry to say this, I’m not saying every single teacher in the school system is this way, but number one, some of them are clueless with technology. Number two, they really don’t care at the end of the day. I’m sorry to say they don’t. Number three, they’re so involved in the Marxist movement that I’m not sure they even think about these things. And I’ll go as far as to say that there are some, some, not all, but there are some inside of the school system that frankly don’t care about your kid at all. Your kid is nothing more than somebody they can deprogram, reprogram, and use as a tool. That’s all they’re looking at your kid as. Sorry. I’m being 100% honest. That’s exactly how some school systems are and the people that are in them. Again, not all. And if you’re a great public school teacher, I’m not talking about you, but there are those in the system that are very much that way. That kid is nothing more than something to be deprogrammed, reprogrammed, and is a tool for their cause. That’s it. That’s all they look at your kids. So unfortunately, because of what I just said, you’re not going to find schools doing what I just said in regards to advising parents, even grandparents, to not post back-to-school pictures. Okay, something that I had in my notes, because I saw this the other day. I was going to talk about it and didn’t get a chance to. You’re going to see this was an article in Wall Street Journal. And there’s a lot of, you know, to do right now over tariffs. And we’ll talk about some of that maybe even in the next hour. But a lot to do about tariffs. One of them… That you’re going to hear a lot about and being heard a lot about right now is the alcohol industry, especially the whiskey industry, whereby they are claiming that because of tariffs and what’s happened in Canada and so on, that’s really hurting their business. Well, I watched a really long video the other night explaining some things that I don’t think most people have ever thought about, including most that are writing these articles that really explain this in more depth. than just blaming the alcohol slump on tariffs. Because that’s just a small part of it, by the way. The biggest reason alcohol sales are down in general, by the way, it’s not just whiskey. It’s not just bourbon and things that come out of Kentucky and Tennessee and places like that. It’s also affecting wine country, California. There’s a glut of wine right now, by the way, in the market. And here’s the biggest reason why. Young people aren’t drinking as much. Charlie and I have talked about that. That’s the biggest reason, by the way, there’s a slump in the whole alcohol industry. It has nothing to do with Trump and tariffs. I mean, a portion of Canada and so on, yes, there’s going to be some impact there. But by and large, the biggest reason it’s down, young people aren’t drinking as much. And what they’re drinking is different than what their parents and grandparents drank. meaning they’re drinking some of the pre-mixed drinks that are already on the market, and they’re drinking Trulies and some of the seltzers that are spiked and the hard lemonades and things along those lines. They’re not drinking bourbon and whiskey and the stuff that costs a lot of money and high-end wines and, and, and. They’re not drinking that. And you’ll not see articles about this. And I don’t know why, because the whole picture is what’s the whole market doing? But they want to blame Trump for tariffs, of course. So that’s the number one angle for most of these writers is let’s try to get Trump any way we can. So, man, the alcohol sales are down. That’s because of tariffs. Let’s go ahead and go there. No, that’s not the only reason. There’s multiple reasons as to why things are happening. Tariffs just being a small part of that. The largest portion, again, as I said a moment ago, is the fact that young people, even what they are drinking, is different than what their parents or grandparents drank. And when I say young people, I’m talking about kids in their even early 30s, late 20s on down. They’re just not consuming what even a lot of you listening may have over the years. So it’s way different than it once was. Now, you would think that all of those folks internal to the industry would be looking at some of these trends. And I guarantee you a lot inside of the industry are. But the people writing about these slumps aren’t. They’re looking at tariffs only. Let’s blame this all on Trump. Bourbon sales are off. The whiskey, the whole whiskey business in Kentucky is collapsing because of Trump and his tariffs. No, no, that’s not it at all. That particular industry relied on an old customer for far too long and didn’t change their model. That’s what it amounts to. It was an industry that thought, like the tobacco industry, that we’ll have this forever. We’ll never have to change our model. And the tobacco industry did, and by the way, went into buying food companies. That’s a story I talk about on Wednesdays a lot. But the alcohol industry hasn’t done that. And I think the reason is is because they thought that customer was always going to be there. These people are always going to be by bourbon, whiskey, all of that. Well, they’re not, though. It has changed. Their tastes have changed. What they want has changed. What they’re doing in life has changed. Keep in mind, because this is so ironic, we talked about social media with people posting their kids going back to school and so on. Believe it or not, because of social media, people are less social. It’s the opposite of what you would think. They actually get together less and hang around and drink and do things along those lines, even on the social sides of things. They do less of that because of social media, not in light of it. It’s the opposite of what people think. People think, oh, these kids are more social today. These kids, they can’t talk on the telephone. They can’t have a real conversation. They can’t even go in for a job interview. They have to bring mom and dad with them. And I’m not joking. I’ve got clients that I consult with that will tell me that, including a lot of you. These kids have to bring mom with them to do an interview. Well, they’re not social. They’re antisocial. It’s no wonder liquor sales are down. They don’t go out. But yet they’re going to blame all this on Trump. All right, that’s enough. Roof Savers of Colorado coming up next.
