SPEAKER 05 :
It’s a mighty fancy automobile. Oh, she’s a real road king, all right. Zero to 60 in 7.5. She’ll do a quarter mile, 13.40. 390 horsepower, 500 foot-pounds of torque. Whatever that is. Performance and image, that’s what it’s all about.
SPEAKER 20 :
There’s no such thing as a stupid question. This is Drive Radio. All of your automotive questions are just one phone call away. 303-477-5600. SPEAKER 12 :
And we are back. Drive Radio KLZ 560. Thanks for joining us today. Myself, Dietze from ProTech Auto Shield with us today. And a lot of you having questions in regards to we did a lot in the last couple of hours on PPF paint protection film. We’ll talk about ceramic coating and window tint as well before we close out the day. Somebody did ask on the text line, can I talk about DEF? def that’s the fluid that is used in modern diesels to keep emissions down and in most cases the vehicle will uh re you know power will be reduced and so on if it starts to run low so you’ve got to keep the def tank you know not full but you’ve got to keep it over a certain level or you’ll have issues so all modern diesels are using this fluid called def def it’s a urea type fluid and Somebody was saying that, you know, is it wrong to try to pull from the back of the shelf getting the newest stock? No, that’s exactly what I would do, because typically they’re going to put the old stock up front. Death does have a shelf life. So you want to try to buy the newest death they have. And if they don’t like it, then I guess they can choose not to sell to you. But I would be choosing from the back of the shelf as well now. If you’re using it on a pretty routine basis and most DEF, as long as it’s stored in a cool place where it doesn’t have a lot of light coming into it, has a pretty decent shelf life. But still, would I be pulling from the back of the shelf if I could? Absolutely I would, because it does have a shelf life, unlike oil and other products that really don’t have a shelf life. So that was a great question, by the way. Tony, you’re next. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. Hey, John. I’ve got a question about that ceramic coating for DETA. And with the factory clear coat, there’s two kinds of factory clear coats. There’s those that are peeling and those that are going to peel. So with that ceramic, if it started to peel already, can they fix that with that ceramic, or is it too late by that time?
SPEAKER 03 :
It’s too late. So the ceramic coating goes on top. So if the, if the underneath surface is failing is not going to help much.
SPEAKER 12 :
Nope.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay, so then you’ve got to catch it before it starts to peel.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, it’d be one of those things where it’s designed to be put on, hopefully, as the car is newer so that you’re keeping that top coat as fresh as possible so that you don’t have any of those issues like what you’re talking about, Tony. But, no, DITSA is, again, it’s like anything else. Whatever that underlayment surface is, the ceramic, which is clear, is going right on top of that. So you could coat that. that coating that’s coming off, but you’re still going to see the coating like it’s coming off because it’s just a clear on top of what’s already there.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, okay. Well, I thought they had a way of removing the old stuff first and then putting the ceramic coating on is what I thought.
SPEAKER 12 :
No, that would be more of what collision centers would do, and there’s no way to effectively remove just the clear without harming the paint color underneath it. So in that case, a collision center would be doing a complete panel repaint. If it’s just the top surfaces or the whole car or whatever, they’re going to do a complete repaint. Base coat, clear coat.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. yeah yeah then i’ve got a question about putting leds in my instrument panel i’ve got a 97 silver auto you know how the instrument cluster unplugs from the dash yes on those uh and leds are uh polarity sensitive so you gotta get positive and negative correct how do you do that once you get that how can you tell which is positive and negative on the back of that instrument cluster to put those leds in
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, you’d have to trace out. Those are going to screw right into the back of the circuit, the printed circuit that’s on the back of the instrument cluster. You’d have to trace that out and determine which side has got the positive coming in and which side is the ground. Typically, you can follow the ribbon, the wire on the ribbon, back to where the ground is and know that’s the ground side versus the positive side, and that’s how I would do it, Tony.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. Just follow the ribbon.
SPEAKER 12 :
You trace it out. It’s like a little maze. Just trace that out, and you’ll see it that way.
SPEAKER 07 :
So it’s pretty easy then, I’d say.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, that one is. On that truck, they’re very easy because that one’s easy to see, yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and you were asking about jobs where you learn something?
SPEAKER 12 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
I used to work for Colorado Springs Utilities with the electric department, and that taught me a lot about electricity, and I even do things around my house. Pretty much anything that was electric, I can take care of it, you know, so…
SPEAKER 12 :
You’re one step ahead of a lot of others, so good job. As you know, not everybody can do that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, yeah, I know. I’ve done quite a bit just in my own home with that knowledge, but it’s been really helpful.
SPEAKER 12 :
It’s funny, Tony, you say that because electricity and plumbing, for a lot of people, really stump them. And for me, personally, I kind of look at the two in the same way. Electricity, as you know, are electrons flowing down a quote-unquote pipe. I don’t look at it much different than I do plumbing. Granted, there’s alternating current and direct current, but at the end of the day, it’s still electrons flowing down a pipe.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s it. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. So, yeah, it’s been, you know, like I say, the amount of money you can save just by doing things yourself is tremendous, you know. Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER 12 :
Absolutely. Thank you, Tony. No, I appreciate that. And, yeah, one of the things that I learned over the years from my father was a lot of those same things, you know, do-it-yourself things around home and so on. And, yeah, I’m like Tony. I can’t think of how many things over the years I’ve learned. saved money on by being able to do certain things that you would normally be paying somebody else to do. And like him, I’ve been able to save a ton of money over the years. So really quick, Dietze, back to his question on the ceramic coating. And I think it’s really important for folks to understand that you can ceramic coat anything you want to. I mean, you could take that paint that’s coming off, and if you didn’t want to fix it, you could ceramic coat over the top of it, but it’s still going to look like the clear coat’s coming off.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
Right? Might be a little shinier, but it’s going to look like the ceramic. You’re going to tell that that clear coat’s coming off, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you’re still going to be able to see it. And if, let’s say if the clear coat, it’s completely failing, it’s still going to come off.
SPEAKER 12 :
Which means the ceramic coating is going to come off with it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 12 :
Because the underlayment isn’t secure is the way to look at that, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
So if anything, what I would do is put PPF. Because at least the PPF is not going to fall apart.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’s a good idea. Because at least it will have some bonding. Even if that one little section wants to come off, it will still be bonded around it. Yeah. So here’s a question on ceramic coating. I was going to ask you guys this anyways. Some of these folks that have an older classic car, we talked about that during the first hour. So you’ve got an older classic car. You don’t really want a patina, which those of you that have classic cars know what I mean by patina. You’re leaving all of the original paint. In some case, it may have even worn all the way down to the primer. A patina is you put like a clear coat on top of all that patina to try to keep it looking original so that the car looks as original as it could and you’re not repainting the car. Can you do ceramic coating the same way you would do patina? In other words, can you take that old paint, get it cleaned up, paint corrected as much as you can, and then ceramic coat that and have it stay? Or will that work?
SPEAKER 03 :
I want to say it would work. Yeah, because it bonds to the paint.
SPEAKER 12 :
So as long as that, again, going back to the underlayment comment, as long as all of that underneath is still good, you can just, you can go ahead and ceramic coat the top.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 12 :
What about if even there’s a little bit, some of these cars get to where there might even be a little bare metal in some places. A ceramic coat will still stick to the bare metal, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, it’ll still stick, but it’s not going to have the same effect.
SPEAKER 12 :
right right but you could but it would still stick you could have you could theoretically save or keep an old paint job lasting longer and not have any more deterioration by ceramic coating it right yes am i thinking yes correctly that way yes okay so for some of you that have some of those older vehicles where you’re thinking you know i’d maybe want just a maybe a little bit more shine i don’t want to go through a whole repaint the paint on the car is good enough for what it is in fact it kind of is period correct and looks good for the time frame you can ceramic coat that and keep that in tech because you can put multi layers of ceramic coating on right so you can even put a little bit more finish on it if you wanted to right yes and even now that matte paint is really popular you can still do ceramic coating on them oh you can i didn’t know that yeah so you can ceramic coat the matte paint
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes. That would make washing it way easier. Yes, it would. Now the insulation is a little bit different.
SPEAKER 12 :
I did not know that. Ah, I just learned something. So you can ceramic coat the matte finish and it still looks like matte finish when it’s done?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 12 :
So is it a special ceramic coating?
SPEAKER 03 :
So the one that we use, I don’t know if it has explained a little bit, but we have the 9H and then we have the top coat. So the way the… How do I explain it? The way the ceramic coating is made is slightly different. So it’s made with silicone and it’s made with titanium.
SPEAKER 12 :
Right.
SPEAKER 03 :
So if you have more titanium, it’s a little harder.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
If you have more silicone, it’s what gives it the shine.
SPEAKER 12 :
Ah, okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
So we would do just the 9H, which would give you that hardness. So there’s no shine in it. Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
So you just don’t use the top coat. Oh, gotcha. So you keep them at finish. Because for those of you that are listening that don’t know this, the matte finish paint is really hard to take care of. It’s very temperamental. You have to wash it a certain way. It can be very finicky, whereby the ceramic coating would make that a lot easier.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, just learned something. All right, we’ve got more to cover on that. Don’t go anywhere. If you’ve got a question for us, by all means, lines are open 303-477-5600. We’ll be right back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560.

All right, we are back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Jeff, you are next. Go ahead, Jeff. Hey, how are you doing? Glad to hear your voice again. Thanks, Jeff.
SPEAKER 10 :
I’m pretty well, pretty much. It’s a beautiful day now. We’ve had some really needed showers, and we’re just enjoying the day. Nice. Walking in the dark. Nice. So my first job was not real pleasant, and I didn’t learn much, but it was detasseling corn for my uncle’s dog. seed corn company, and we had to ride an open grain truck over to Illinois, and you’d walk the field in the morning, you’d get soaked by the dew, and in the afternoon it was so hot you couldn’t hardly stand it, and humid. And we walked the field, we didn’t ride any machine. And it wasn’t a pleasant job, I didn’t learn a lot, but then I got a job near our house at a grocery store, a private grocery store. And I was a bagger and a carryout guy. And finally, I got, and I hit high school. I got my dream job working in a full-service shell station. And I learned a lot from those guys, and especially the owner. So he taught so much of me. And when I got home on leave… for the holidays from the army so he could go visit his grandchildren. He had me make sure I could work like while I was home.
SPEAKER 12 :
So good for him.
SPEAKER 10 :
I learned a lot of stuff.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’s awesome.
SPEAKER 10 :
And just don’t get that anymore.
SPEAKER 12 :
Very good.
SPEAKER 10 :
So, yeah. And, uh, so I’ll let you go, but always enjoy the show. And then, and, uh, what a service you do you provide.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, Jeff, I appreciate it. And it’s because of guys like you that we keep doing it. So thank you very much. I appreciate that greatly.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, good. Well, good. Not a problem. We sure enjoy it.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, thank you, Jeff. Have a wonderful afternoon, sir.
SPEAKER 10 :
You too.
SPEAKER 12 :
All right. We’ll do it. We’ll do it. Uh, Terry in Nevada, you’re next. Go ahead, Terry.
SPEAKER 09 :
Hey, John, I was, I got in on the last conversation before break. Um, I had questions about that stuff that’s advertised on TV called One. Okay. Is that what you were talking about? Is that ceramic coating?
SPEAKER 12 :
I’ll have to look up what’s on TV. I don’t watch TV anymore. I don’t know if I should say I’m sorry to say or I just don’t think it’s a matter of being sorry. I just don’t watch TV anymore. So is it advertised as ceramic coating or how are they advertising it?
SPEAKER 09 :
You know, I can’t remember, John. I think it is called a ceramic coating, and it just goes by one name, O-N-E-1, and it’s just a spray-on.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, I’m looking it up. Yep, I see it now. Yeah, I see that, and here’s what I will tell you. Dietze can talk about this better than I can, of course, but if it’s in a bottle, and you’re just spraying it on, it will have a ceramic content to it, but nowhere’s close to what you’re actually getting done in a professional ceramic coating job. Because in a regular ceramic coating job, you’re paint correcting everything first, you’re cleaning all of the paint up because it’s going to bond to the surface of the paint like Dietz has been talking about, meaning that prep has to be spot on, or you’re just ceramic coating over something that’s bad already. And in the case… go ahead you got to rub it you got to rub it out yeah so and another thing is um usually if you can buy it over the counter is going to be a lot more diluted yes so it will like i said it will have some ceramic coating content terry and i’m not saying it won’t make the car shine as you you know put it on but it will not have the same durability and longevity that reg you know that true professionally installed ceramic coating will have
SPEAKER 09 :
Uh, I didn’t know they had a. Yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
So I like to compare it to like, uh, pain relievers. Like you can buy Tylenol, ibuprofen over the counter, and then you get like your prescription pain relievers.
SPEAKER 12 :
They’re, they’re not one in the same.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right. Another thing that they advertise on this thing is, uh, I’ve heard him say, you don’t have to wash it. Just spray this stuff on. And I thought, wow, that’s crazy as hell. But, uh, That’s what they say, but the finished product, as they show it on the tube, damn, it’s… The shine is brilliant.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and again, I’m not going to tell you that there aren’t products in this spray bottle that don’t make the paint shine. They will. I’ve used some of them even before meeting Dietze and Roy and understanding fully how the ceramic coating world works. I won’t tell you that these products don’t work. And what you’re also talking about is there’s waterless car wash products. And again, in certain situations, you know, guys are at car shows and so on. Do they work well? They do. Keep in mind, if there’s dirt on the car, though, that waterless solution, that waterless wax, I guess you could say, that’s going on, you’re not getting all of the old dust and dirt off, so you’re actually rubbing that into the paint, and it’s really not helping anything at the end of the day. So as long as the car is pretty dust-free, sure, use that product. You should have no issues. But would I use waterless paint care on a really dirty car? I would not because you’re just rubbing the dirt into the paint.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, I totally agree with you. I thought that was kind of silly for them to say that. But I tell you, the finished product, when they show these cars, the shine is just brilliant. But like I say, it’s on… Film is on TV.
SPEAKER 12 :
Correct. Who the hell knows? Well, and the best way to see, and this is most people don’t know this, but the best way to see how good the finish on a car is, is look at the paint under fluorescent lighting, which we don’t have a lot of anymore because most everything’s gone over to LED. But fluorescent lighting is the most unforgiving lighting when it comes to paint. that you’ll ever find. So even if you’ve got a handheld fluorescent tube that you can run over a car to really see how well the finish looks, that is the best indicator of how well something looks. All of the LED type lighting and things that are now out there and even TV lighting and so on, it will mask a lot of what’s actually underneath. And even the sun will mask a lot of what’s underneath. Fluorescent lighting is the best telltale of how good paint is.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, thanks for that. I had no idea. I don’t know if I could ever get one of those lights.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and here’s the key to that, Terry. Look around a lot of garage sales, secondhand stores, and so on. A lot of the old tube lights that even technicians would use before things got switched over to LEDs, there’s a few of those still floating around. You can still buy bulbs for them, by the way, for those of you listening. And instead of re-outfitting, because I hate fluorescence in the shop, I’d rather have LEDs because the light’s better, you can see better, and so on. But for paint finish, nothing is more of a telltale than fluorescent lighting. It’s good to know, man. You’re the greatest. All right. I appreciate it, Terry. Thank you very much. And, yeah, if it’s in a spray bottle, it’s not going to be the same as full ceramic coating. I’ll just tell you that straight up. And it needs to be professionally installed. I mean, I think if you’ve got a lot of experience, even myself, would I try to put on ceramic coating with no training at this point? No, I would not because I’m going to screw it up some way, somehow.
SPEAKER 03 :
I mean, if you can get, like, a spray on and you’re washing your collar and you’re one of those people that just enjoy the hobby and it’s… You do it every day? Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
Go ahead.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah. Otherwise, I would not do that. So, Pat Norvada, you’re next.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Hi, John. My brother passed away a few weeks ago. Sorry to hear that. And, yeah, it sucks. And he left behind a 2017 Mitsubishi… uh, WRX.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. And, uh, it’s in perfect shape. It only has 7,278 miles on it, believe it or not.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
And he only, he was a bat out of hell on Saturday mornings. That was it. And, uh, anyway, uh, I was listening to Martino one day, a couple of weeks ago, and they had car day and they’re talking about, heck, uh, A Honda or a Mitsubishi, something or other, are getting $50,000 for them now. New. And I was thinking, well, geez, if they’re getting $50,000 for something like that now, this thing’s got to be worth $75,000. But you tell me, John. How far out of the park am I here? Where am I?
SPEAKER 12 :
Let me look here. I have not kept up on that car as far as values go, but I can look pretty quick here. And the other good resource for that would be the guys up at Ridgeline. Justin and Ridgeline Auto Brokers up in Boulder. Josh and Justin, either one could help you with that. Justin would be the one to talk to you. I can already tell you, it won’t be $75,000. I think that car, that low miles and so on, you’re probably going to be in the, and don’t quote me because I’d have to do a little research, probably in more like the 15K range.
SPEAKER 08 :
Really? No, he paid $25,000 or something years ago.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, I mean, that car is great. It’s not super rare because they built quite a few of those. I mean, the more rare a car is, the more the value is. That car, there’s nothing that is… super rare about it now and again i could be off i mean this is this is where you know josh and justin need to come into play it might bring more than the 15 to 20 uh i may be off in that and with the low miles that might be a huge plus to it but it’s not going to be 75 grand i can already tell you that that there’s there’s it’s not even close to that even the 50k mark it’s not even going to be close to that yeah well why do they open their mouth about that
SPEAKER 08 :
A Mitsubishi that’s worth 50 grand now.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’s got to be a very unique Mitsubishi because most Mitsubishis don’t do very well on the resale sites. I would have had to have listened to exactly what Mitsubishi they were talking about. And I am seeing a few of these WRXs for sale that are fairly low mile that are in the mid-20s. So that car might be in the 20, 25K range. I could be off in what I said, Pat. Again, that’s another one where the way that works for everybody listening, Josh and Justin, they’ve got a tool. that they can use where they can plug all the information in, and it does a really great job of coming back with what are things selling for nationwide, what are auction prices, what are retail prices. It’s all a collection. It’s like, think of AI for the used car world. It will plug all of that information in and give them a pretty good idea what the car is worth.
SPEAKER 08 :
Cool. Ridgeline will do that, right?
SPEAKER 12 :
Ridgelineautobrokers.com.
SPEAKER 08 :
Bam. Okay, I’m on it.
SPEAKER 12 :
All right. And by the way, Pat, they may be even willing to buy that car or consign it and help you sell it or whatever the case may be. They can do all that for you.
SPEAKER 08 :
That’s mighty. That’s very cool. That’s what I’m looking for. They’ll do that. I just want you to know, my brother and I love your radio shows. We love your politics. And he’s called you a few times since he’s had his car. But I just want you to know you’ve got some fans over here.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, thank you, and I’m sorry for your loss. I know what that’s like, and I’m sorry, Pat. I appreciate it, John. You betcha, man. Have a great rest of your day. No, I appreciate you. And, yeah, they’ll do a great job helping you do something with that car and helping you out at the end of the day. All right, we’ll come right back. Lines are open, 303-477-5600. This is Drive Radio, KLZ 560.

Looking to buy or sell a classic car? Need a reliable valuation you can trust? Look no further than BP Appraisals, LLC. With over 20 years of experience in the appraisal industry, we provide fast, accurate, and professional appraisal services that you can count on. Did you know that an appraisal can also entail the forecasting of monetary earning power? An appraisal is a document with a valuation conclusion. SPEAKER 18 :
Napa Know How.
SPEAKER 12 :
And we are back. Dietze from ProTech AutoShield with us today. And you can find ProTech, just go to our website, drive-radio.com. You’ll find them there. You can also call direct. What’s the phone number?
SPEAKER 03 :
720-382-8481.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, and we were talking during the break for all of you that couldn’t hear that on the ceramic coating end of things. Even I, and I’ve been in the industry my whole life, and have a pretty good understanding of how all this works. I can paint correct. I can use a buffer and a polisher. I’ve been in the collision world and all of that. So I know that world. And with probably some training, could even do ceramic coating. But even with everything I just said, I, I… cannot buy the same product that Protech Auto Shield is using because to buy that ceramic coating from Ceramic Pros in this case, you have to be trained, you have to be an authorized reseller. There is a step-by-step process that you go through because, as Dietze was saying during the break, if you don’t do it correctly, you could really screw a car up paint-wise when you’re all said and done. That’s why the really good, solid ceramic coatings have to have a trained individual doing it because if not… you’re in for a world of hurt.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, you get high spots, and it just looks cloudy. It looks worse than you would have started with.
SPEAKER 12 :
You’d have been better off not messing with it. Yeah. That’s why, for most of you, well, for all of you listening, unless you’ve got some sort of an in, you won’t even buy the same ceramic coatings that professional ceramic coating installers do. And as a side note, you’ll see even ceramic coatings I’m looking right now on the Internet, you’ll see them anywhere from $30 to $60 a bottle. For example, well, I can already tell you that even at 60 bucks a bottle, that is a fraction of the price of what Dietz’s cost is on true ceramic coating that you’ll get done on your car. Because again, it’s not apples to apples. Am I right in saying it that way?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 12 :
Because true ceramic coating is in the hundreds of dollars, not 50 or 60 bucks.
SPEAKER 03 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 12 :
So your cost is much more than that is my point.
SPEAKER 03 :
A lot more than that.
SPEAKER 12 :
A lot more. And the other cost in all of this, of course, as we’ve been talking, is the whole labor side of this and getting the car done and prepped and ready to go. And, for example, if you’ve got anything that needs to be touched up or anything needs to be handled, all that needs to be done on the front side because the ceramic coating is going to go over the top of that, and you can’t touch up over the top of ceramic coating, and, and, and we go.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, so if you have scratches underneath and you put the ceramic coating on top, they’re to stay.
SPEAKER 12 :
It exemplifies it.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
Magnifies it, I guess I should say.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, they’re going to be there. For a while.
SPEAKER 12 :
I had somebody also text in and say, yep, John, you are 100% correct on the fluorescent lighting. Somebody else that grew up in the industry like I did, when you delivered a car, you did your best to deliver the car outside, not under fluorescent lighting because the fluorescent lighting showed every little imperfection that the car had. Yep, I grew up in those days. I know exactly how it is. That’s why most car shows, even back in my day, most car shows were done under more of an incandescent type lighting or metal highlight or things along those lines rarely did you have a car show with fluorescent lighting because it was so hard to get the cars to look really well under fluorescent lighting and everybody knew that back then and it’s just a little i guess insight into the trade now These newer body and paint guys, they don’t know how well they have it because I grew up in a time where it had to be perfect because if it wasn’t, it showed. In today’s world, unless you’re under that fluorescent lighting, you’re probably never going to see that imperfection because LED lighting and the sun, of course, being outside natural lighting, it just won’t show some of those imperfections.
SPEAKER 06 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 12 :
So in you guys’ case, do you have handheld lights that you use to actually show more of some of the spots you’re doing the paintless dent removal and so on? How do you do that?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we have both types. We have the fluorescent ones, especially when we’re doing the ceramic coatings, we use the fluorescent ones. But mostly we have the LEDs because, you know, like for vinyl and stuff, it’s a lot easier to do. Yeah, it’s a lot easier to see.
SPEAKER 12 :
Now, paintless dent removal, there’s also tools you guys use in that that tell you whether the panel’s straight. Lighting, for example, it tells you whether the panel’s straight or not as well, right?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, yeah. The tools are a little different than what we use for ceramic coatings. The lighting is different. They have like… Those like photography kind of things that have like the squares so you can see where the dent is.
SPEAKER 12 :
Right, right. Yeah, that’s kind of stuff I was talking about. It really highlights the dent to know whether you’re even as far as when you’re pulling it and it’s settling, it even gives you indicators as to how far you’re pulling the panel out, letting it settle back in and so on. There’s lights that actually show those guys how to do all of that. It helps them with that, I should say.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, it’s actually pretty cool.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay. All right. Question on ceramic coating for you. Is there anything you can’t ceramic coat?
SPEAKER 03 :
um because they make products for interior in the whole nine yards right yeah we have leather um interior trim paint um stainless steel wood shoes uh boats i know right does his shoes yeah yeah he does his shoes um there’s struck like architectural ceramic coating there’s i don’t think i’ve
SPEAKER 12 :
Run anything?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay. So, again, those of you listening, if you’ve got a car, boat, by the way, for some of you that have boats and things like that, you can ceramic coat all sorts of different things, RVs. I can go down the list of things that you can ceramic coat that would help out immensely. In fact, Roy, my trailer you guys see me take to the remotes and so on, our drive radio trailer, Roy at some point wants to do that because… Those trailers always have a bleed, I guess you would call it. So the aluminum will sort of get the little black streaks and bleed. And Roy’s like, okay, I want to try that because I think the ceramic coating will prevent that from actually happening. So at some point we’ll do a test on that. I don’t know. We’ve always got a project going on, something along those lines. So we’ll report back on that. But, yeah, I will say this. As somebody that didn’t know how any of that worked several years ago until meeting Roy and Dietze, and that was through Louie, my pinstriper, as to how that all came about, by the way, Because prior to that, I didn’t have a lot of knowledge on the ceramic coating thing. In fact, I had people that were talking about it, asking questions about it. I didn’t know a ton about it. Since I’ve done a ton of research, and, of course, after knowing, you know, Roy and Dietz and learning more and more about it and having it done, I will say this. Once you’ve had a vehicle done, even your daily driver, you’ll never go without it. It makes keeping the car so much easier, you know, keeping it clean makes it so much easier after being ceramic coated, Dietze.
SPEAKER 03 :
You still have to wash it, though.
SPEAKER 12 :
You still have to wash it. You do. But the washing of makes it so much easier because the paint, you know, the dirt, let me say it that way, the dirt doesn’t want to stick in the same way. Is that the best way to say it? Yeah. It’s just got a whole different… When you wash it, everything comes off and just, especially in the wintertime, we get all the crud, the dirt, the salt, all of that junk. It just comes off so much easier.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah. So Clearco has like pores in it. The ceramic coating fills those pores and it has a more sleek finish to it. So things don’t tend to stick as much because there’s less friction on it.
SPEAKER 12 :
How often does maintenance need to be done on the ceramic coating? We’ve talked about that in the past. So how often?
SPEAKER 03 :
Every year.
SPEAKER 12 :
Every year?
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 12 :
And with that, you’re just coming back in.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we wash, we decontaminate the vehicle, we test the surfaces that they’re still beating the way it should. And if it’s not, then we do another layer of ceramic.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, so every year, come back in, have that done, updated, taken care of, make sure you’re all dialed in. And again, for those of you that have really, in some cases, exotic, or you’ve got really nice cars, or you just bought a new car, you want to keep that finish on as long as possible. That’s the other side of this, I will tell you is, and I’ve talked about this a ton in the past, The better you keep your car care of, maintenance, paint, interior, all of that, the higher the value it is when you go to either trade or sell. And I’m living proof of that. The nicer you keep the vehicle, you’ll get top dollar out of it. You know, you take two vehicles that may be exactly the same. Same vehicle, same mileage, everything, but one is really cared for and one isn’t. The one that’s really cared for brings the most money all day long and will sell faster than the one that isn’t because of what I’m saying. Everybody looking at a vehicle, number one, they say, okay, wait a minute. If they took this… good of care on the outside and the inside. That means mechanically they’ve probably done a pretty good job of caring for it as well. So it’s a complete package, and that’s why those cars are always easier to sell and do something with. All right, we’ve got another full segment coming your way. We’ve got lines open. We’ll get a few more questions answered here towards the end of the day here. 303-477-5600. Give us a call. We’ll get you right on air. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. You listen to Drive Radio because you have a lot of questions about your car.
SPEAKER 16 :
You have questions about what kind of oil to use, what the best tires are, where to get the best parts. But have you ever asked what will happen to your car after you die? Did you know that if you don’t have a will that specifically states what will happen, a probate judge will order your family to split your car evenly. And because you can’t cut up a car into pieces, your family will be forced to sell it and just split the money. According to Michael Bailey, the mobile estate planner, it is estimated that two out of three people don’t have a proper will in place. And oftentimes, things like your favorite classic car are accidentally forgotten completely. Michael understands that the only way to be absolutely certain that all of your final wishes will be honored is to take a small amount of time to talk about it. 720-394-6887. 720-394-6887. Call Michael Bailey, the mobile estate planner, right now to set up a free consultation and make absolutely sure that you don’t leave anything to chance.

All right, we are back, Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Myself, Dietze from ProTech AutoShield. Mickey, hang tight. I’ll get to you in just one moment. I had a great text message a moment ago from a young person who said that even though this isn’t my daily show, but given the events of this past week with Charlie Kirk and everything that’s happened, could I give some encouragement to the young people that are out there that listen to all of my programs? And you know what? I would be more than happy to. And let me just say this. I am honored, and I mean this sincerely, that we have as many young people out there listening to us as we do. I’m an old guy. And I feel very honored that we have young people that actually listen to us and are tuned in to what we do, not only here on Drive Radio, but the other programs that we have, The Daily Show, and so on. And I am. I’m honored that you young guys, young folk, would even listen to us in the way that you do. So I’m very honored. And What I would say about this last week is while it is a huge loss, and it most definitely is, any time great leaders lose their lives, especially in utter nonsense, in an assassination like what happened this last week, it is a huge loss. And I will not minimize that in any way, shape, or form. And he was a great leader and a great influence upon all generations, mine included. So not just the younger generation, but all generations. I followed Charlie and have for a number of years. I’ve interviewed him on my daily show and so on and had just a great deal of respect for him and still do. That hasn’t changed. What I will say, though, is life goes on. In fact, I will tell you that Charlie would even want you to go on. And what I mean by that is you keep the torch lit. You keep moving forward. You keep doing the same things that he did. And if anything, get re-energized to do more than what maybe you would have done before. So some of you that are listening, band together. You know, join together, join forces, I guess I could say, and just keep doing what Charlie was doing because the fight hasn’t ended. In fact, it is just really been reignited. It’s the fight’s been there for quite some time and it’s not going away. So continue to fight, continue to band together, keep your chin up. And ultimately, you know, we win. I mean, I think at the end of the day, we all know that anybody that has faith understands that at the end of the day, we do win. And you guys need to know that. And don’t get discouraged. And I know it can be. And especially as a young person, things can get discouraging. But all in all, we still win. We’re still going to fight. I’m still going to fight. I’m going to keep being here on a daily, weekly basis. So I’m not going anywhere. And for any of you that are, you know, of that community, generation and you need somebody to reach out to by all means reach out i’m always here you guys are always welcome to call text message email whatever you need to do and i’m always going to be here for you guys as well and all i would can say is is you keep your chin up that’s exactly what charlie would want you to do and to continue to move forward continue the fight and you young people are our future and i mean that sincerely you literally are our future we need you we need you to be at the top of your game so please do so don’t get discouraged and Keep the faith, keep your chin up, and keep moving forward because my generation needs you as much as you need us. Mickey in Denver, you’re next. Rest in peace, Charlie. Absolutely, absolutely.
SPEAKER 11 :
Anyway, the man with the 40-year-old jack?
SPEAKER 12 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 11 :
Jack oil is hygroscopic like brake fluid is. So over the 40 years, it may have been contaminated with water. So if he changes out his oil, it’ll probably come back. I’ve done the same with some less well-cared-for jacks and had them… Yeah, great idea, Mickey.
SPEAKER 12 :
You’re not going to hurt anything in trying that. Absolutely. And it’s cheap. Yes, yes. Good point. Thank you. That’s a good one, Mickey. Yes, absolutely. Number two, the man with the 300, with the minimal damage… Oh, the Mercedes? Yes, the Mercedes.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yep. Well, with the minimal damage, when it goes to co-park, it’s going to get bid up because it’s worth more in parts than it is as a rebuilt title car. You’re right.
SPEAKER 12 :
You’re right. The insurance company is not your friend. No, they want that to go there. They’ll make more money that way, Mickey, to your point.
SPEAKER 11 :
That was the point I was trying to get.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yep, you’re 100% correct.
SPEAKER 11 :
So, yeah, have it as car evaluated by your friends, the estimators. Yep. So, yeah, good idea.
SPEAKER 12 :
Really good idea. Yeah, and you know what, Mickey, that’s universal. For all of you that are listening, where you get any kind of an accident where you may have, may, you will have diminished value, you may have an argument with an insurance company and probably will have. I mean, anymore, Mickey, these are guarantees. I say you might have. It really anymore is an exception to not have one. That’s where guys like Burke and what he does on the appraisal side of the fence is really key.
SPEAKER 11 :
I don’t think he ever mentioned how much they were offering to him if he could keep it. No, he did not.
SPEAKER 12 :
No, he did not. I didn’t hear that, Mickey. That would be a piece of really useful information.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, good point. So, yeah, just… My thoughts for the day. Thank you.
SPEAKER 12 :
No, Mickey, you’re awesome. I appreciate that very much. Thank you. And thank you for what you said about Charlie as well. And yeah, there’s no secrets there. Everybody knows the kind of week that we had. There was, of course, another shooting even in Evergreen as well. And yeah, we live in times where. This program in cars in general, and I’ve said this over and over again, the car community is a very close knit community whereby I’ll just say it. I mean, I guess I struggle with people that have racist tendencies and things along those lines because in the car community, there aren’t any of those. When you’re a car guy, you’re a car guy. Period. It doesn’t matter what kind of car you drive. You could be an off-road guy. You could be a low-rider guy. You could be a European guy. You could be in a muscle car. I mean, it doesn’t matter. Car guys are car guys. And we all love each other no matter what just because you’re a car guy. It’s one of those universal things that sort of like the boating community only better because in the car community, once you’re in it, you’re in it. And you’re really never out of it because it’s always in your blood and And I guess just growing up, we never looked at anybody according to their nationality or their skin color or whatever. If you’re a car guy, you’re a car guy, you’re a car guy, and nothing else mattered. And it’s how I was raised and how I grew up. And I will tell you that this community, those of you that are listening, it is, in fact, exactly that. It is a community. And I appreciate each and every one of you. I mean that sincerely. I know you guys thank me a lot. I get that a ton. And I’m very thankful that you guys do say that. But I will tell you that, believe me, I’m as thankful for you all. And I know all of our sponsors, folks like Dietz and Roy, they are very much the same way. They feel highly, how should I say, highly obligated to all of you because you’re such great listeners and such great customers that we’re here because of you. and I mean that sincerely. If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t be here doing this, and I mean that with all of my heart. It’s because of all of you that we keep doing this, and I mean that, and I appreciate each and every one of you. I hear from a lot of you, not only through phone calls, but I get emails, I get text messages. I will even get emails and text messages from people that you tell to call and text message us, which I appreciate greatly, meaning they’re not listeners, But you are, and you tell them. And sometimes it’s on the other side of the country. I’ll get people literally from the East Coast that will email me a question saying, hey, my cousin or my brother or so-and-so in the family listens to you, and they told me I should contact you about such and such. And I’m more than happy to help those individuals out because, again, it’s a community, and it’s what we do. And it’s where – I’ll kind of close out with this. There’s a lot of – now through social media, there’s a lot of quote-unquote broker-buyer services whereby these guys are out there on the internet, and they’re on Instagram and TikTok and whatever, and they’ll help you buy a car for a fee. They help you negotiate and do all of that. I do all that for free. There’s a lot of you that will tell me, here’s my deal, what do you think? And I don’t charge for any of that, nor will I ever. It’s not what we do here. We’re here to help you guys, the motoring public, make the best decisions possible, and I’m always willing to help somebody through that process. And I do it for free, whereby a lot of these guys are charging you a percentage of the deal. And we don’t do that. So anytime you guys need help on anything, by all means, just let us know. And we’re here to help. I was going to do a car review today. We sort of got busy with all sorts of other things. I’ll probably wait and do it Monday. I drove a Kia K4 here recently. I’ll do that review on Monday. And I’ll just give you guys a little bit of a teaser. Great car. I’ll just say straight up, great car. I was very impressed with that car for the money and for what that car actually does. I’ll talk more about it on Monday. But fabulous car, and I don’t have a single thing bad to say about that. And for the car review sides of things, we have a litany of. Just go to the website, drive-radio.com. We’ve been doing car reviews since 2008. So almost 20 years, not quite. So 18 years we’ve been doing car reviews and have driven a lot of cars over those years. It’s why in some cases some of the cars where somebody says, hey, I’m thinking about buying this used car versus that used car. Those are cars I’ve probably test driven or owned over the years and can give you a really good idea of what car to buy, how it works, and so on. But anyways, if you’ve got any questions along those lines, please let us know. All right, Dietze, ProTech Auto Shield. And I do know this. If you guys are looking to get some things done, your schedule’s fairly full.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, we’re about two weeks out right now.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay, so two weeks out, meaning if you need something done, be patient. I will just say this straight up. There’s no other place in town I would take my stuff to get done besides them. So whatever you’re looking to get done, window tinting, PPF, the ceramic coating, wraps. What am I missing?
SPEAKER 06 :
PDR.
SPEAKER 12 :
Painless Debt Removal. If there’s anything you need done, this is the place to do it. I don’t care if they’re a couple of weeks out. Just get on the schedule, get dialed in, and when your turn comes up, they’ll get you in, they’ll get you taken care of. And one last time, Dietza, what’s your phone number?
SPEAKER 03 :
It’s 720-382-8481.
SPEAKER 12 :
All right, that’s going to do it for today, guys. Thank you so much for listening. Enjoy the rest of your day. Charlie Grimes, our engineer, Larry Unger answering phones today. I appreciate it. Don’t forget, you can text me even after the show is over, 307-200-8222. But have a fabulous weekend. This is Drive Radio, KLZ 560.
