How are you? Yeah, it’s good to have you here. It’s a nice change of pace. It is, yeah. I do like coming to the studio a lot, though. It’s a great view out those windows. It is, really. Here is a view that I’m very comfortable and familiar with. So maybe not as exciting, but much more convenient. So I appreciate you doing this. You bet. You bet.

Well, how have the last few weeks been? I mean, hunting season, I mean, archery is kind of kicking off. Our muzzleloader season is getting ready to open and different things. Actually, today it opens. And so how have things been going?
SPEAKER 06 :
Pretty good. We’re getting all the last-minute Larrys calling and asking for weird projectiles. Last-minute Larrys. That’s what we’ll call them. I don’t know if I just came up with that or that’s something I’ve been saying in my head for a long time, but guys are just in a total panic because they can’t track down something. oddball muzzleloader projectile or whatever it may be and it’s like man you had this hunt lined out for months now and the week before you’re scrambling to get the bits and pieces so it’s pretty common but you know you rifle hunters this is the time for you to get down here or make the phone call and get all your gear squared away because you don’t want to be in a scramble the week of the hunt trying to track down some special ammo that you’ve zeroed with uh you know the last two years that they don’t make anymore or something like that that’s that’s something we see very often you know this is a time to figure that out and then get some new ammo and go to the range and uh get zeroed in with that so you can go out there and you know take a shot that you’re comfortable with and hopefully harvest an animal so yeah absolutely how are you on some normal calibers of rifle ammo I mean, we keep kind of a smaller selection, but we have access to a lot, and our deliveries are coming in in really quick lead times right now, less than a week in most cases, even if it’s like two boxes of ammo or something. We do try to push for like a two-box minimum if we’re going to special order you some ammo. Sure. But, you know, we can be flexible on that if we got another order on the way out, you know, on the way out of the warehouse or something like that. We can just piggyback it on there. So we do have access to a lot. But, you know, as far as in-store, we have kind of a tight selection. We have a couple things, though. We got some nice Hornady Match stuff and then a couple more basic options for, you know, Remington Core Lock, things like that, just like real classic stuff that guys can – you know, feel confident buying and running through their gun and getting some pretty decent results.
SPEAKER 14 :
But like you say, now’s the time if you’re rifle hunting, go check your ammo box now and see if there’s something you need because now’s the time to get it where you got it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yep, yep. You know, make sure all your screws are tight, torque down properly, and make sure you’re not missing any screws on your – optics mount or anything like that i mean those those things they they can come loose if they weren’t torqued or properly loctited in in the from the get-go uh just from bouncing around in the back seat of the truck or you know uh bouncing around on your back while you’re hiking up and down the uh the lovely mountains here in colorado um You know, it’s one of those things that you always think you’re in shape for. And even if when you’re in really good shape, you get going and hiking with a pack and a bunch of gear on you and altitude, you know, things jostle around quite a bit. So you just want to make sure everything’s nice and straight and leveled and torqued down properly. So you can come in and talk to the guys at Sovereign Armory and make sure that that’s the case and everything. They can do like a re-zero here in the shop to get you back out to the range on paper so you can kind of fine-tune things out there. Right.
SPEAKER 14 :
You know, walking through the store a little bit this morning, man, you’ve always got a great selection of things. But, man, handguns, all kinds of things. Man, you’ve got a great selection and a well-balanced selection. It’s not just a bunch of ARs, not just a bunch of shotguns or whatever. I mean, you’ve got some lever action cool stuff. You’ve got a good selection. Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’ve always loved them all. I have always had a hard time just picking one lane and sticking with it because there’s just so much cool stuff out there. So we do try to have a little bit of something for everybody. And either way, if you’re coming in for one specific thing, there’s just lots of other cool stuff to look at and think about. So, yeah, we have everything from… You know, cowboy action stuff, new and, like, you know, original stuff as well. And military surplus, bolt action, you know, Mausers and M1 Garands, all that cool World War II stuff, which I’ve always been a really big fan of. That’s kind of, like, if I were to say I collected one thing, it would probably be in that lane, the U.S. military small arms stuff. from World War II. That’s always been a big interest of mine. So we have some cool stuff like that. We’ve got a nice selection of revolvers. So if you’re looking for a good sidearm for hunting, those are usually pretty popular this time of year. So we’ve got some really good magnum uh calibers and different barrel configurations and stuff like that so a lot a lot to look at there and choose from uh we’ve got all the ar-15s you know we’ve got premium brands there from hk to q to noveske lmt um fn you name it we’ve got it and if we don’t have it sitting on the shelf here you know likely we can order that through the warehouse got a great selection of benelli shotguns right now benelli franke and uh some stoger stuff for you know the guys who just are getting into it now um looking for some place to start that’s not terribly expensive um but you know you’ve got that and if you if you

And just about all your cases, I mean, from handguns, I mean, if you want to spend $400 to $600 on a handgun, you can. If you want to spend $3,000, you can. So you’ve got a good selection for each price per budget, so to speak.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, yeah. And if there is something real specific you’re looking for and we don’t have it here, I mean, right now – You know, availability through distribution has been really good compared to the last five years. So, you know, unless it’s something really sought after, limited production or something like that, then, you know, we may have to wish list it or put you on the back order list. But most items are just available, ready to ship. And we’re seeing… deliveries on long guns in less than a week and handguns in a couple of days. So, um, we got a couple, I just saw that we had a couple of, uh, Benelli, uh, uh, super black Eagle threes ship. So we’ll have a good selection of those. Those are real popular with the waterfowl guys. Um, and, uh, you know, really, I mean, you can do anything with that shotgun, but that’s kind of more of the crowd that, that, uh, gravitates towards that gun. Um, Um, so we’ve got a few different configurations of that gun. Uh, we’ll be here. I should see those two guns. Uh, today is Thursday, possibly tomorrow, if not early next week. So we’ll have good stock on it. Uh, super black Eagle threes. And then we’ve got some great over unders and semi autos from the Benelli lineup and, uh, and Frankie. So some really nice stuff. And if you don’t want to spend Benelli money, you know, Frankie’s, uh, make some really beautiful stuff.

Yeah, I shot one of those for several years, a few years back, but, I mean, nice shotgun.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, and I feel like the quality on the Franke’s has kind of been like, there’s been some ups and downs with it over the years, but ever since Benelli really dug in deep, got a hold of them and dug in deep, they’ve, the last, I would say, three years, the quality has been Really consistent, really nice wood on those guns, and you’re talking sub-two grand on a really cool over-under. And they got some limited stuff with some nice engraving and case hardening and the whole nine. So got a good selection right now and really something for everybody. Yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
Once again, we’re at Bighorn Firearms with Ryan Resch, and it’s 2175 South Jasmine Street in Denver. Let’s talk about suppressors a little bit. Sure. Big change in that and a big, beautiful bill. Knocked out the $200 tax stamp in January. And so you’re kind of helping folks. If they want to wait until then, I’ll let you walk through the process, what your options are.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah. As we get closer to that date, it’s going to make sense to just wait it out because you’re already going to be in the fray when the floodgates open January 1 and there’s a $0 tax stamp. A lot of vendors… Dealers, online vendors across the country have been offering buy it now and wait until January 1 to avoid the $200 tax stamp. Now, That’s great in theory. I just don’t know how that’s going to pan out in the big picture. I mean, we’re seeing 24-hour turnarounds. Two to three days on average right now turnarounds on Form 4s. So, you know, when all of these Form 4s that are kind of waiting in the queue that haven’t even been prepared yet all get prepared and submitted through the e-forms at the same time, I just imagine it causing lots of problems. So, you know, if you can swing the $200, now is still a great time to buy a silencer because we’re getting season two to three day turnarounds. I just… anticipate us not experiencing two to three day turnarounds come January one. But we’re, we’re open to that. I mean, we’re kind of getting pretty close to that window here. So, you know, if that’s something you really want to push for, you know, come in and talk to us and maybe we can open that up for you. Yeah. But, you know, also the other issue that we’re going to see is limited availability on inventory. You know, everyone’s going to go buy a silencer when there’s a free tax stamp. Sure. You know, and who knows what kind of bills we’re going to see coming from the state of Colorado come February of this year.
SPEAKER 14 :
They’ve already shown no matter what comes through federally, they’ll change some stuff.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, and I imagine after this being made such a spectacle of in the federal realm that they’ve probably got their eyes – on silencers on a state level you know they’ve seen everybody all the excitement about this big beautiful bill and the zero dollar tax stamp and all this stuff and it’s it’s made a lot of uh you know national news sure so you know we’re we’re calling attention to something that who knows if it’s kind of gotten their attention and we may see something like that coming down the pipe so You know, I say now is a better time than ever.
SPEAKER 14 :
For those that don’t have a suppressor, man, shooting with it, it’s a game changer.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
I mean, it is so nice. And I’m using it for hunting. I mean, man, and it’s so nice. Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, reduced recoil. obviously reduced sound, reduced decibels, to what they consider hearing safe if you’re shooting outdoors and you’re not standing next to the gun. If you’re behind the gun and you’re shooting outdoors, silencers are all considered hearing safe. You’re shooting indoors or you’re shooting next to somebody, it’s a different story. But I just did a… pistol rifle class two weekends ago. And we were, we did one day pistol, one day rifle. On rifle day, we shot close to five, 600 rounds through different techniques and different, you know, stages and transitions and things like that. I would say 99% of the class all was running silencers on their guns. And it was awesome, unless you were standing next to the two guys that were not running silencers. And I happened to be the lucky recipient of that. being uh next to a gentleman not only who didn’t have a silencer but had like a massive uh compensator on the end of his gun so yeah i was shooting i was like am i i don’t even know if i’m pulling the trigger right now as he’s just ripping rounds off i was like it was you know no i mean i’ve been around before you don’t know you know you don’t pay attention who’s in the next booth and all of a sudden some big gun go off and man it just yeah yeah it totally throws you out of your focus so um we came to an agreement that he would shoot first or I would shoot first, and then one of us was done, and the other guy would do his thing because it was very distracting. But, yeah, silencers are great. You know, get a silencer. Do it for your friends. Sure.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, absolutely. All right. We talk about this pretty much every time you’re on, but I thought we might break it down a little more today on the estate buyers. And by that, and I never want people to think that that means, like, You know, someone has to pass to do this, whatever. But that’s usually the case that happens where, you know, and let’s be honest, most of the time it’s the wife that’s left with some firearms. Doesn’t know anything about them. Or the kids. The value. And they just need to find somebody honest that can help them figure out what to do with them. So a couple of options, whether consigned or buy outright, but I’ll let you walk through.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, we’re seeing a lot more people kind of like think about this ahead of time because they’ve seen like their other friends maybe pass and have to help the family, you know, get those guns sold or whatever. So a lot of guys now I think are a little bit more proactive on it, knowing that they have 100 guns. Or maybe 200 guns that they don’t want their lovely wife to have to worry about selling after maybe they pass away. So I do see a lot more guys now that are kind of… thinking about this ahead of time and making moves on it. But in the unfortunate scenario where you get stuck with a whole bunch of guns you know nothing about, we’re here to help you out. We can come out to you. We can kind of get the ball rolling via email with some pictures. preferably a list is always nice too to kind of, most guys keep, I think, pretty good records on their firearms. Most, not all, but most guys, I think, do keep a pretty definitive list of, you know, the makes, models, and serial numbers of the guns they have in their gun collection. if you’ve got your hands on one of those that’s super helpful you can email all that information directly to me at ryan bighornfirearms.com i’ll take a look at what you send over and we’ll kind of figure out what the next best steps are whether you want to bring some stuff in a few guns at a time or you want us to just come out to you and view the entire collection I just did this for a gentleman out of Parker where he found me online and reached out, said he had about, he thought he had 30 or 40. I think we ended up at like 35. Went there, you know, it was, everything was there, but there was a lot of kind of other stuff kind of around it. So I came back the following week, weekend, and went through, brought some tables, got everything laid out, and went through and just spreadsheeted the whole collection for him. Got everything on the spreadsheet. So we had a definitive count with make, model, serial number, caliber, a couple minor notes, what kind of condition the gun was in, if there was anything included with it. And then Fired Off took that back home with me, went through, looked at some comparisons on stuff that I just wasn’t maybe really on top of my game with, stuff that was just kind of odd. He had a lot of cool older single shot type bolt action stuff. military trainer rifles, so .22 caliber. Neat stuff, but it’s not really my cup of tea. It’s a very niche thing, and I’d say it’s probably not many guys’ cup of tea. But cool stuff nonetheless, and there’s a bunch of modern stuff in there too. So I went through and I valued everything out based on what I know, comparisons for different auctions that have sold recently online. And then gave him a couple options here for consignment and outright purchase. And we’re still doing some negotiation on that. But I think we’re close. And nonetheless, I mean, he knows what he’s got now. It’s on a spreadsheet. And he’s got at least my opinion on what the stuff is worth. So, you know, there’s always options there. We don’t have to buy the whole thing at once. We can buy part of it and then buy the second part later. We can maybe do part of the collection on consignment and purchase other items. We can do the whole thing possibly on consignment or purchase the entire collection outright. You know, whatever is a good fit. At the end of the day, we just need everybody to be happy with the deal that we come up with. And then also just, you know, helping – People with, you know, it can really be a stressful burden when you’ve got 100 guns or, you know, even, I mean, 35 guns is a lot, you know. But, you know, we’ve seen 100, 150 gun collections, and that’s a lot of guns to deal with. And we can help you. relieve you of that burden by selling the guns legally, making sure that they find good homes, and they go through the appropriate channels, the legal channels, to get to their final destination.

It’s a good, safe way to do it. You know, it’s a legal way to do it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah.

You know, where they don’t have to mess with it.
SPEAKER 06 :
A lot of people don’t want to drive around with 30, 40 guns in the back of their car. So, you know, reach out to us. Give us a call at the shop. Let us know what you got going on. belt you need a good holster yeah that’s a big part of a handgun too isn’t it yeah i mean a good belt and good holster yeah uh you know this is really too important um i would even consider them safety products uh you know for if you’re going to carry a gun you you need to have a proper gun belt and a proper holster you know these you know i try not to like knock certain things and you know but really if you’re going to be carrying a gun around whether it be in the woods or you’re carrying it around town i mean you should have a really gun specific holster right i think that’s really important uh you know that that is part of the safety you know it covers the trigger guard it keeps the gun from unintentional discharge while you’re carrying it around if you’re carrying a gun in a holster that’s not specific to that gun there’s the chance of that gun coming out of the holster. There’s a chance of other things entering the holster. And at the end of the day, the only thing that makes the gun go bang is something on the trigger. It doesn’t have to necessarily be your finger, but something has to touch that trigger for the gun to go bang. And a holster keeps that from happening. So, you know, having a proper holster and then also, you know, as far as like comfort goes, having a holster that is comfortable to wear is a big deal too. If you conceal carry, whether you’re just getting into it or you’ve been doing it for a long time, it can be a burden. It’s one of those things you’re carrying around all day, and you’re like, man, I can’t wait to take this thing off. But it can be better, and that all comes down to a proper setup, holster and belt.
SPEAKER 14 :

Yeah, those are Origin Tactical. They’re actually based out of northern Colorado, just outside of Johnstown. They recently moved. I’m trying to think. It might be like Windsor or something like that. Really good people there, super good quality stuff. They sell some of their stuff in some of the big box stores too. Those have been really popular lately. I’ve been seeing a lot of those come up to the counter recently. and I’ve been getting really good feedback. I shoot one myself and I’ve never had, I have one that’s a Yeti shape and one of the limbs is kind of starting to crack on it, but it’s seen a lot of like high power rifle rounds. I had a customer in here who’s bought several of these steel targets from us. And he’s like, man, he’s like, these things are amazing. I’ve never bought one that I can actually shoot and not destroy. So that was some really good feedback. And I think he’s got probably, I don’t know, maybe three or four different targets and a couple different target stands now, too. So we have the shepherd’s hook, which are nice if you’re just, like, packing in somewhere to go camping and, like, you want to bring a short target with you. It makes for an easy setup. We also have the big target stand that gets the target up to, like, kind of a man-size height. They all come with a 2×4 and a small plate, but we have a good deal going on those where if you buy, uh the target stand and a plate it’s 200 bucks even so um yeah come check those out and they’re also manufactured locally so you’re supporting another colorado business which we we absolutely love being a part of that so um some other colorado companies we stock here um attack pack They’re just down the street from us here as their main facility. But we’ve got some of their belts, plate carriers, packs, and things like that. So if you want to just kind of get some hands-on with it. But if you need to build out a custom rig, I would highly recommend just going directly over to Attack Pack and seeing Alex over there. And let’s see. What else? I’m trying to think what else we have that’s local Colorado. But let’s see. If something else comes to me, I’ll throw it out there.

All right, we’ve got to schedule a date here pretty quick to get you over to a shooting range, all right? No. So we’re going to do that so you can really see what that’s like. But I want to mention, again, I’ve told you this before, I loved the name of your company when I first met you because – It says exactly what you’re about. Custom your solutions. And that’s what it’s all about, you know. And, you know, the different things that you make, I’ve got most of them now. And it has been a game changer for me, you know. And it took me even a little bit even after me, hey, oh, I didn’t bring them, you know. Well, then I’ve just decided don’t go shoot then, you know. Just wait until the next time, you know, when I’ve got them. Yeah, yeah. Many times you go to a range and if you weren’t planning on going, but maybe you got your firearm with you, you know, you just go in and you get their earmuffs and yeah, that does that protect a little bit, but it’s really not protecting because you never know what somebody’s shooting in the next booth to you, which could be an extremely large caliber rifle or something, you know, and you’re just shooting a handgun or whatever. But today we’re going to run through some reasons that you should get your hearing checked regularly. And, again, this is very fitting for our audience here, but you’ve got to take action. If it’s been a long time since you’ve had your hearing tested or you can’t even remember when you have had it tested, then it’s probably time. So all you have to do is call 720-839-7705. But tell us some reasons that people should come in or should get their hearing checked regularly.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, so a top reason I would say is to catch it early. Because you may not be noticing any problems, but that doesn’t mean that you haven’t had some damage to your hearing. And it’s important to catch it early before it becomes, before your brain really adjusts to having hearing loss. And that’s the thing, is your brain is plastic, meaning it will adjust to having… I’ve been told that before.
SPEAKER 13 :
My brain is plastic.
SPEAKER 07 :
Probably. A very small piece of plastic. Probably with a different meaning. Kind of like a Lego. Yeah. I’m using it in a different sense, meaning it can change. And it does change with how your body changes and how your environment changes. So anyway, it’s important to catch it early so that we can start to prevent potentially what the cause of it is so it won’t keep getting worse without you really knowing until then it hits you one day. It’s a problem. You can’t understand speech and background noise. You’re turning the TV up. You’re asking people to repeat themselves. And now it’s not just affecting you, it’s affecting everybody in your life. So to prevent all of that from occurring, it’s better to just start getting it checked early and regularly, especially if you have risk factors like you’re noise exposed often, like a firearm user or somebody in construction or a musician or a pilot or anybody that’s regularly exposed to noise. So we want to catch it early so we can do something about it sooner to lessen the effects of it later.
SPEAKER 14 :
Right. And, you know, we talked about this on our Haystack show recently, but so much is connected to the brain here from hearing or lack of hearing. And it can lead down a… I don’t want to make it real…
SPEAKER 07 :
depressing here but it can lead down a sad road yeah for the person yeah i mean that’s another reason is when people develop hearing loss uh it gets harder and harder to interact with people because you can’t understand them you’re asking to repeat for them to repeat themselves so often and eventually you get tired of it you stop asking for people to repeat themselves You stop engaging in conversation because you can’t understand what’s going on, especially in a noisy restaurant or in a group setting. So you just withdraw and you stop going to social gatherings. And that leads to depression when you socially isolate yourself. And that comes with a whole other bag of problems for your brain health.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, absolutely. If you’re just joining us, you’re listening to Sportsman of Colorado, of course, but this is a special segment we call Listen Up, and Dr. Fling is with us on Wednesdays at 1230. If you want to learn more about everything, we’re just going to cover a few things here, again, about getting your hearing checked regularly. You know, one thing, too, I thought about, too, just, you know, depending on your work or whatever, but just from a safety standpoint, being able to To hear is really good. And, you know, we had a tragic story here at the station. Really, when I first started, you know, our station, our general manager, his daughter was downtown and was walking, had some listening to music and things and got hit by a light rail car, you know. And, boy, I just remember, you know, just, oh, my. I mean, it was really – and she’s done well now and is doing well.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, she survived it.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, she survived.
SPEAKER 07 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 14 :
But, you know, it really – you know, our e-bike of Colorado show airs on Wednesday. Just try it, you know. And so – but I see people – it seems like we’ve got to have something in our ears. And I wonder how healthy that is where we can’t just – walk and just enjoy quietness for a little bit but if you look everywhere you go somebody’s got something in their ear listening to something yeah and you wonder how good that is is that good for the brain that much activity or is it good to let it relax once in a while
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, you’re right about that. That’s an interesting question. And, you know, I don’t know the answer to it. And I don’t know if there’s been much research looking into that because, well, I guess I was thinking of even back to Walkmans in the 80s. I guess we’ve been listening to things through earphones and earbuds for decades now. But, yeah, there could be such a thing as overstimulation of the brain. That’s a good question. I don’t know the answer, but I’m going to look into that.
SPEAKER 14 :
But I think we’ve all sat next to people, and they’ve got earbuds, and you can hear the music. That can’t be good, right?
SPEAKER 07 :
No, it’s not good, yeah. If you can hear it out of their ear, it’s too loud.
SPEAKER 14 :
Right, right. And we said this the other day, but if you’re getting your hearing checked regularly and you get a hearing exam, to me that’s that’s got to be the foundation is the hearing exam right because you’re not going to know what’s happening if you’re you know losing some hearing if you don’t have a baseline so yeah that’s really the takeaway today is to call you and get a hearing exam just get a baseline you know because we as kids we get our hearing tested every few years in school i remember getting mine screened in high school
SPEAKER 07 :
But that’s the last time most of us do it until like our 50s or 60s. So there’s, you know, 30 years of changes in your hearing that you’re not even paying attention to. And it does seem like all of a sudden I can’t understand in background noise. But really, it’s been going on for a long time, depending on what your risk factors are. But. yeah, just get, just come in, get a bait. I don’t care if you’re 20, if you’re, you know, 60, if you haven’t had a hearing test as an adult, just come in and get a baseline. I’m not going to try to sell you anything really. I’m what I’m selling is prevention, you know, and monitoring. Um, so it doesn’t become a huge problem later.
SPEAKER 14 :
Right. And it’s $125. Hey, very transparent here with pricing and, uh, kind of walk through cause your chest is really thorough.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, good. Yeah. I’m glad you think so. Well, so first I always look in the ears, uh, make sure there’s no wax buildup infection, any abnormalities with the eardrum. I do a pressure test on the ears that gives me information about how your eardrum is working, if it’s vibrating normally, or if there’s a hole in it, or if there’s fluid in the middle ear. Once we do that, then I have you go into a sound treated booth where it’s very quiet so we can do a hearing test. The kind of the bread and butter of today’s standard hearing exam is finding out what the softest sounds are that you can hear. And that goes for tones. We’re looking at pure tones because that’s how the inner ear hearing organ is organized. So we test from low pitch to very high pitch, which almost spans the entire human hearing range that I’m checking. So I just want to see what’s the softest sound that you can hear. Then I’m also looking at what’s the softest level of speech that you can understand. I’m looking at if you have hearing loss, how loud do we have to turn up the volume of speech in order for you to be able to understand it easily? And then I’m also looking at how do you understand speech when there’s background noise? Is that easy for you? Is it challenging for you? Um, and then, then the last part of it is determining what type of hearing loss you have. Is it being caused by a problem in the ear canal or the middle ear, or is it being caused in the inner ear where the hearing organ is? And that will help me figure out what one, if you need to follow up with an ear, nose and throat physician about anything that needs to be medically treated, But two, if you’re interested in treatment options, what those might be as far as hearing aids go, really. So, yeah, it just gives us great information about what your current hearing status is and what we might need to consider going forward.
SPEAKER 14 :
Sure. And your first point, of course, is ideal because you’re going to catch things early, but then it’s just going to automatically be a better treatment outcome.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. Yeah. And then we have, as you’ve said, we have the reference, we have the first test. And then in the future, if when you come back and we recheck, then we know if there have been changes or not. You know, especially if you are noise exposed regularly, if you’re going hunting, target shooting, you work in construction, you’re a musician, you’re a pilot, whatever it is. If we test it regularly, then we can track those changes and it will also inform me about whether or not the hearing protection that you’re using is effective enough or if we need to pivot and look at a different style or something. So it gives a lot of good information to kind of navigate what’s the next best step to prevent.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, absolutely. Hey, really, it’s all about just overall well-being. You know, hearing health reduces stress, fatigue, isolation, improving your quality of life. And if you’ve ever been in a situation where you really wanted to hear something and you couldn’t, I mean, that’s stressful. hey, help your family, help you, help those that want to be around you and, hey, are sick of repeating things, all right? Surprise your wife, guys, all right? And gals, hey, you know, this can happen anywhere. We’ve all seen it. And, you know, if you’re a waterfowl hunter, you get in the goose pits and, you know, and you’re there with so close to all the shotguns and different things. And really one shot, can be a damage yeah and you’ve talked about that before so people really need to do all they can to protect and you know um the next time you’re on we’ll have you run through the models again but you’re you’re going to be looking 125 for the test her custom ear solutions which is the name of her company these are her hearing protection uh solutions that she makes they can be the solid moles if you don’t need to have any kind of conversation uh those start about one 160 okay um then you can get some with some filters which she made for me um and i tell you that’s been great you know and doing some hunting where i needed to have some conversation uh especially like upland bird hunting you know we were out doing that in kansas it was nice to be able to to talk and hear, and yet when the gun goes off, hey, it shuts it down for you. So then she’s also got some more of the electronic type, right?

The EPA announces it will keep maximum contaminant levels for PFOs and PFAs. in our drinking water. What that means is that municipalities are going to have to test and monitor for these contaminants, and they will not move to the unregulated contaminant list. This is important for us, so that way in our water quality report, they’re going to tell us exactly what levels of PFAS are in our water supply. It’s important because you want to have a point-of-use drinking water system to remove these contaminants and understand the quality of water that’s being provided to you. I’m Paul the Waterman.

Good. I appreciate that disclaimer. It’s not like I don’t like golf and all that kind of stuff. But if I don’t do it, I can’t sell it because I don’t feel comfortable telling people about it.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, no, no.
SPEAKER 04 :
No golf. There’s plenty of shops out there. But yeah, I think fishing, that kind of thing. We’re all about that.
SPEAKER 14 :
Man, no doubt. You know, it is something. Buddy and I, we were talking that day, just all the gear that you accumulate as a sportsman. And you kind of look back at things and you’re like, why did I buy this? And then the big thing I run into a lot of times, I can’t find something. So then I go buy it knowing I had one. And then I find myself with two. So a lot of things can go on there. But let’s approach the consignment side first of things in just gear and whether that’s hunting, camping, fishing, and just kind of tell people how all that works.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, so, I mean, we’re not high pressure here. You know, we’re a family business. Most of your listeners probably know that by now. But I don’t try to make things harder than they really are. So you bring your stuff in. We set you up with the consignment accounts. You know, to kind of go through your stuff. We want stuff that’s usable, guys. If you’re not going to use it out there, chances are somebody else isn’t either. So no funky smelling, you know, tents and no ripped pair of pants. You know, we want usable stuff. That being said, everybody’s got that kind of stuff. You know, like the way you mentioned earlier, guys go in and out of stuff all the time. You know, I… I thought that I was going to be a fly fisherman. I found out it wasn’t for me. I get frustrated. So I had all that junk and everything, and so you bring it into a shop like mine. We sell it for you. We get some money back. More importantly, you get to go and use that money or find something else that you really like to do. It’s a good outlet for that kind of thing, you know, because every year, you know, everybody looks through the magazines and goes, ah, I’ve got to have that part. A lot of times that stuff doesn’t work out for people, you know. Our shop’s a great way to get introduced into those kind of sports too. A typical guy, I just talked to a guy earlier this week, he just dropped $1,000 on a bunch of fly fishing stuff. And he’s like, oh man, I wish I would have known. I just picked this up and walks into my shop i probably could have outfitted four guys no i started to say yeah that was all it goes a long way at your store yeah it does it does and so you know if you’re on that even on the fence guys you know if you’re just thinking about getting into elk hunting you know come into my shop you know the clothing gets expensive so quickly you know um another great outlet is kids stuff um you know kids camo you know kids fishing stuff kids waders you know Those kids aren’t going to stay that size. There’s no sense in spending $200 on a set of waders for a kid that’s going to wear them for maybe three trips. That being said, if you’ve got kid gear, bring it in because we’re always starving for that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER 14 :
That’d be a huge sector, man, that really needs help. Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, you know, and I mean, you know, going forward, I mean, even like muzzleloading, that’s getting hot again because guys are getting kind of frustrated with some of the draws. And if you got muzzleloading stuff and you tried it, you decided it’s not for you, bring it in. We can turn it into cash for you. and get it in front of somebody else that’s going to use it.
SPEAKER 14 :
Right. And, you know, a lot of times, too, man, fabric shrinks. In other words, our sizes change. And I’ve got some things that, you know, used to fit different. I’ll just put it that way. And a lot of times this stuff, you know, is gently used, you can say.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
You know?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. You know, I’m guilty of it. I always say that my arms get longer. And so… long sleeve shirts and me never work out. And so my wife’s like, gosh, what are you going to do with all this stuff? So I just bring it over to the shop and resell it. But I mean, that’s true. You know, this clothing stuff, a lot of the stuff that I get in is real lightly used. Guys, we’re all gear junkies. We all like the greatest, best thing that, you know, blah, blah, blah, that the neighbor has. But at the same time, the fish, the birds, the You know, the elk, nobody’s looking at the labels, guys. They’re not trying to see if you got the 2025 camo pattern. Yeah. You know, don’t let that fool you. And so you come into a shop like mine, you save a buck, and you still get, you know, you still get good results.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, absolutely. And once again, it’s located at 2650 West Hamden. And what are your hours, Billy?
SPEAKER 04 :
And so Tuesday through Friday, we’re here from, well, I’m usually here by 8. We’re here until a little after 5, depending on if it’s a little slow out there. We might go and play hooky, and I might go try to drop a line somewhere. And then on Saturdays, we’re from 9 to 4. We’re closed on Sundays and Mondays because I’ve got to, I’ve got to get out and play, too. I’m sick of hearing all the stories about everybody else going out.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, no doubt, no doubt.
SPEAKER 04 :
And fishing and hunting. Yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
And, you know, just kind of thinking the last time I was in, I mean, man, if people are in the market for packs, man, you’ve got a big selection. You’ve got sleeping bags down. I mean, folks, this is something. There’s an upstairs and a downstairs now when you go. So how do you describe the best way for people to get to you there off that service road?
SPEAKER 04 :
So we’re just, you know, a lot of old timers know the building is the old camera trader building. That was around since dirt was invented. We’re in that building. We’re basically between Santa Fe and Federal on 285. Okay. Everybody thinks it’s a frontage road that’s just north of. North of Hampton there. It’s actually Hampton Avenue.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 04 :
You’ll see the back of the building up against 285. It’s got a giant purple mountain on it. You know, that’s us there. Right.
SPEAKER 14 :
And once again, folks, fishing, hunting, camping gear, and if you’ve got some things that, you know, hey, you’re just not using anymore. I’m telling you, it’s a lot better than trying to do Facebook Marketplace and some of these other apps that may be out there. You can take it into Billy. Hey, he’ll help you price it reasonably where it’ll sell. And like I say, it’s a great way to make some extra bucks. Or, hey, what I do is just end up buying something else there that ends up being a really, really good deal. Because, Billy, I mean, I’ve seen things through the years, I mean, quite often that’s brand new in a package, dude. Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, we’ve got a ton of ammo. The reloading stuff is always hot. If you decided to back off of reloading, bring it in because I’ve got guys daily coming in and just buying everything that I have for reloading. So I’m starving for reloading supplies. And so you’re going to get a premium for that. You know, the ammo, you know, it’s all new stuff. You know, the fishing stuff, guys go in and out of fishing all the time.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Tents, wall tents. you know, it’s, the draw is going to be coming up here pretty quick.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Going through your stuff and thinking, okay, do I want to still be in this tent or do I want another one? I’ll bring it into the shop guys. Um, you know, this is a good time of year for me to, I said that the store always kind of swells up after the, the wives start going through our closets and going, you know what, you’re not going to fit that. Or, you know, I want to park my car in the garage kind of thing. So, um, Now’s the time to do it, guys.
SPEAKER 14 :
And like you said, man, for families to come in, you know, and you got kids and you need to buy them some fishing gear, you need to get them some things. As Billy said, hey, their sizes are definitely not going to stay long. And, hey, there’s a great selection in there of different things, and it can change day to day. I mean, this is actually a store, honestly, you can go in two, three times a week, and you will see different things every time you come in. And, Billy, it’s got to be a fun deal. You know, I used to watch some of those pawn shop deals on TV when people bring stuff in. I mean, every time that the bell goes off and the front door opens, you never know what’s going to walk in there that somebody wants to sell, right?
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, yeah. It’s crazy, the stuff. And, you know, I’ve learned a lot over the years, too. I thought that I knew everything. Oh, sure. I mean, some of the best knowledge that I get are from my customers. They bring in something that I’ve never seen before and they have to explain it to me. And then not five minutes later, one guy comes in and says, I’ve been looking for that for years and buys it and out the door happier than anything. same thing with scotty our gunsmith downstairs you know he’s a wealth of knowledge for me sure um and i mean he’s just turning and burning right now um guys are bringing in a ton of stuff so right right and you got live bait too right we do yep yep uh ice fishing guys i i don’t know what happened but we had good ice and then it quickly disappeared here in town but um the yep the mount lakes are still looking good so we still got plenty ice up there but Yeah, we go through a ton of bait and a ton of fishing stuff here.
SPEAKER 14 :
