NY Jets QB Justin Fields returns to practice, will start Monday’s game if cleared from concussion protocol

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields will start Monday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, provided he is cleared from concussion protocol.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters that Fields was expected to be limited in practice on Thursday for the first time since he suffered a concussion in the team’s 30-10 Week 2 loss to the Bills on Sept 14, but he remains in the concussion protocol. Glenn said: “He still has to go through the whole protocol before he’s totally cleared, but I like where he’s at. If he’s cleared, he’s the starter.”

Fields was injured in the Week 2 loss to the Bills in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, after being smacked by Buffalo pass rusher Joey Bosa when throwing an incomplete pass. Fields’ head hit the turf as he landed, but remained in the game for one more play. The injury resulted in him missing the Week 3 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With Fields sidelined, Tyrod Taylor started against Tampa, completing 26 of his 36 attempts for two touchdowns and an interception. Prior to his concussion, Field has been struggling, completing just three of his 11 attempts for 27 yards..

The Jets and Dolphins are both looking for their first win of the season during their matchup on Monday night in Miami.
