In this episode, host John Rush navigates through a complex web of societal issues, from a chilling attack at a church to the intricacies of drug trafficking. Delve into a discussion that questions the sanity of violent actions and the societal structures that might contribute to such events. This episode also tackles the mental health aspects of violence and how they intersect with broader societal concerns.

My advice to you is to do what your parents did. Get a job first.

SPEAKER 06 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 11 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 03 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush, presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 08 :
All right. Happy Monday, everybody. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Thank you all for listening today. We appreciate it greatly. And thank you also for all the text messages, things that you do throughout the weekend as well. Get a lot of text messages over the weekend, which I appreciate greatly. Also, so got a lot in store for you today. Two-hour show today. I’m going to repeat this first hour during the 5 o’clock hour. So if you’re listening then and we talk about something, you will not be able to call in. I’m going to the Bronco game tonight, which I don’t normally do on Monday nights because we don’t normally have Monday night football here in Denver. But tonight I’m going, so hopefully the rain will stay away and we’ll have a good evening and hopefully have a win when it’s all said and done. We’ll talk about that a little later with my son Richard. in the four o’clock hour question of the day from friday which letter of the alphabet is never silent in the english language the letter v is considered the only letter in the english language that is never silent while other letters can be silent in various words v consistently maintains its phonetic value with no established english words containing a silent v so there you go i i by the way i wouldn’t have guessed that one so That was a good question of the day, Ann. Thank you for that one. Today, the impossible question is, what patent… This one I did know the answer to, by the way. I guess because I’m a car guy. But what patent did Volvo give away in 1962 to save lives? What patent did Volvo give away in 1962 to save lives? Charlie thinks he knows. Charlie said an answer, but which type… of item that Charlie guessed. I’m not telling you all, but which type would be the Other clue. It’s a specific type of something that they gave away. So be thinking through that one as to what the answer would be. All right. In sad news, and some of you probably saw the news yesterday, and I don’t have a lot to comment on because there’s still a lot of, again, like all stories involving things like this, the fire and shooting that happened at the Mormon church yesterday. And Michigan, I did as much reading as I could today to even determine, you know, who this knucklehead was that did this. And there’s such little information at this point. And, of course, the news media is going to want to paint this individual up to be a hardcore Trump loving. conservative, although I think even right now, from just a little bit I’ve read, this is a very disturbed, mentally disturbed individual from the get-go, most likely very racist towards, in this particular case, of course, the Mormon Church and Mormons, the LDS Church, the Latter-day Saints, and maybe some others as well. And again, you’ll hear all sorts of different things that come out over the next few days. We will dissect that as the days go on. By the way, just like we do, anytime something else along these lines happens. So four people were dead, eight were wounded. And if you saw the story, he basically drove his truck through the front door of the church and then got out, opened fire, and had some explosive charges, I believe, that were set in. either in or around the church that one again i’m a little bit vague on i don’t know exactly what he did in regards to the charges that were set i just know that from where everything i’ve read i think charlie i mean the truck crashing through the front of the building would not set the church on fire i can tell you that much right now it would have to be a really bad accident to even puncture a gas tank and then have a fire that results from and you’re just not going to get that from crashing through the front door of the church so from what i’ve read there were some explosive charges and things that went off as well and fortunately the fire department there responded quickly probably saving countless lives as well and this was actually happening as church was going on so and again folks Don’t know what side of the aisle this guy came from. Don’t care. He’s a very mentally disturbed individual, no matter how you look at it. Now, the downside to this one is, or I guess you could say the plus side is, he’s dead. So they’re going to now have to put together all of the things that led up to this and do some other eyewitness testimony of people that knew him and so on, because you’ll never get the actual answer from him himself, of course, because he’s no longer around. Which, personally speaking, these kind of knuckleheads, one less thing to have to dink with when it comes to trials and jail time and room and board and all the other stuff that goes along with it. Sorry, I don’t mean to say it that way, but that’s really what it is. Good riddance. These kind of people that go and take other people’s lives and have no respect for life. And this is where, again, it’s hard to wrap my head around somebody that would claim to be a conservative, claim to be for the pro-life side and against abortion, but then drives in and takes people’s lives. None of that to me makes any sense because it doesn’t go hand in hand. If you believe in one, you believe in the other, again, unless you’re mentally ill, unless you’re disturbed some way, somehow. And it sounds like he was. He was ex-military. That part I did get pretty good confirmation reading several different articles that he was ex-military. Military, although, again, folks, that doesn’t really, even when it comes to the conservative versus the liberal side, extreme left, extreme right, whatever, that doesn’t really tell you anything one way or the other. There’s all sorts of people that come out of the military that go through all different walks of life afterward from being extremely liberal to being extremely conservative, even on the far alt-right. And maybe this guy was on the far alt-right. I don’t know, folks. I really don’t know. And I don’t know at this point, again, everything that I’ve read, there was no known motivation for said attack other than there was a politician running for office that did go door to door, that did run into this particular individual. that said the 20-minute conversation they had at the front door ended up being all about how much he did not like the LDS church and what was going on there and what was this guy’s, you know, as a potential politician, what was his thoughts on all of that and so on and so forth. And again, where was this guy coming from? I have no idea. The other thing I did read, again, don’t know if this is true or not, he had married into the church, I shouldn’t say it that way, He married somebody that was in the church. Let me say it that way. That’s probably a better way to say it. Whether he was actually in the church or not, again, I do not know. So I don’t know all of the details of. And Charlie’s rule in these particular situations is, in my opinion, one of the best rules, which is, Don’t say any more than you really know. Don’t speculate on things. Don’t read into anything. And we’ll just let time take its course and determine exactly what happened and talk more about it at that time. But it’s sad. Shouldn’t be happening. You know, what’s the motive behind this? Again, don’t know. This is way different than what was going on with Charlie Kirk, of course. We already know what the motivation there was. But here, I don’t know. I don’t know what the motivation was. So Dr. Scott coming up next. And great doctor. Talked to him this morning, by the way. a different kind of health care. SPEAKER 10 :
Suck it up, buttercup. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 08 :
And we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560 on this fine Monday, which the weather’s been pretty decent throughout the day. Got a little bit of rain showers coming in tonight, but it’s been a great day, a great weekend, by the way. Love this time of year. Hopefully you all do as well. All right. There was a story I was reading. This was in 9 News, actually, but I think it made other outlets as well. Aurora Woman. has been charged, grand jury, accused of following ICE agent home from work and live streaming the address. When a rural woman and two Southern California women are facing charges after a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging them with following a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent home and then live streaming the address on social media. The grand jury indictment was unsealed Friday after the suspects were charged with one count of conspiracy and one count of publicly disclosing personal information of a federal agent. The suspects were identified as Ashley Brown, 38 years of age, of Aurora, Sandra Carmona Samane of Pomona City, California, 25 years of age, Cynthia Ragoza, 37 years old, of Riverside, California. Both Brown and Samane were arrested on federal criminal complaints, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. The prosecutor’s office said that Brown is also charged in a separate case with assault on a federal officer and that she is in federal custody without bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on September 30th for an arraignment. Good. Good. In fact, this particular story, as far as I’m concerned, needs to be made nationwide to get other people to think twice about doing the same thing prior to doing it. This is, in my opinion, well, A, there’s no excuse for this, but B, this is very serious. And this, in my opinion, does tie in to our last conversation, because when people’s anger… gets to the point that in this case they’re now going to follow ICE agents around and publicize where they live, and I’m guessing in hopes that somebody will actually come pay them a visit. Why else would you do it, by the way? If you’re not trying to wreak harm on that particular person, why would you live stream their address? Therefore, these charges are brought against them, rightfully so. I don’t know – I’m sorry, I’m at a loss for words. I don’t know where we’ve gotten to where this entitlement of, you know, I can pretty much do whatever I want to without any consequences, and if I don’t like what’s happening with a particular, in this case, agency when it comes to immigration, if I don’t like what they’re doing, then I’ll just take matters into my own hands. I’ll take the law into my own hands, essentially. Which goes against the whole rule of law we have in this country. And I understand people’s frustration with government. I get that. I get frustrated with it at times. Even with this administration, I get frustrated with it. Government sucks. I get it. At the majority of what it does. But, there’s always a but. But we can’t have an open border. We can’t have immigrants just running around willy-nilly. We can’t have no accountability for the things that go on, especially for the bad actors. You can’t just let them run around with no accountability. That doesn’t work either. So I ask these same people that would run around letting people know what the addresses are of these agents, what’s the alternative? What’s the alternative? Just letting people run willy-nilly and doing whatever they feel like doing? Letting the bad actors continue to be bad actors? Is that the answer I’m going to get from these individuals? By the way, I’m guessing that’ll be the answer. Their answer will be, well, you know, they’re not doing anything wrong and they’re just here looking for a better life and, and, and. And by the way, while there are some, some where that’s true, and I believe that there are some that’s true. There’s a lot that don’t look at it that way, that are here, that are working for the cartels or the sex trafficking trade, which is typically run by the cartels, or I can go down the list. And there are a lot of bad actors. In fact, I was reading the article, I think I was talking to you guys about this last week, where there’s been a change in the who’s the biggest cartel in Mexico in the last few months here because cocaine has been on the rise in America. People are using it more now than they are because of the crackdown on fentanyl coming across the border. People have reverted to cocaine. Cocaine right now is selling for what it was back in the 70s. Believe it or not. Meaning that with the price of inflation, I guess it’s a really good deal. By the way, I would have no idea what – I don’t even – I’m so green. I’m so removed from some of this. I couldn’t tell you where to even go buy it. I think Charlie would agree with me on that. I have the foggiest idea. I was talking to a police officer friend of mine the other day about that. I’m like, you know, I’m so naive when it comes to some of these things. I couldn’t tell you even where to go to buy this stuff. He said, well, I can. I’m like, I don’t want to know. I don’t want to know. And, you know, he’s laughing because it’s like, oh, it’s more prevalent than you think it is. I’m like, again, I don’t need to know. I don’t want to know where it’s at. I don’t want I don’t need anything to do with anything along those lines whatsoever. I don’t need to know. Not something needs to go into my I don’t need to waste a brain cell on that period. So anyways, there’s been a big shift in the cartel power, I guess you could say. Here’s my point with that. Meaning they need people inside of the U.S. once that actually is brought across the border. They then get that distributed. They get their money back. That flows back into Mexico, of course. That’s how the cartels get rich. If you think for a second they just run it across the border and leave it alone, that’s not how that works. That part I do know. That part I do know. The gang network that’s actually here in the U.S. is huge. And in a lot of cases, that money is funneled right back to the cartels in Mexico, meaning let’s get rid of the bad actors. And so we’ve got folks like this, though, running around where they’re basically taking the law into their own hands. They’re now going, you know, in this case, going live, live streaming where an ICE agent’s address is. I mean, fortunately, nothing happened in this particular situation, but that’s not how this works. And I go back to the question I asked a moment ago. Where do these gals get off thinking they can do this without any consequences? Do we just live now in a day and age to where we’ve had such previous administrations to where there is no consequences for this? You just go do whatever you want to because you don’t like the way this administration is doing something? That’s not how it works. And by the way, that’s true for both sides. I don’t care what side of the aisle you’re on. You can’t just go willy-nilly and take law into your own hands. Now, I will say that if, and we’re not there yet, but if it ever gets to a point in this country whereby the powers that be are definitely doing things completely the wrong way and you can see it on a day-to-day basis and there needs to be some sort of revolt to get that back into check, okay, I’m in. We’re not there yet. And I know some of you out there listening would disagree with me, but we’re not there yet, folks. Not even close. And for those that maybe would disagree with me, I would encourage you to go to any third world country that’s run by dictators and then tell me how close we are to that as a country. And I will tell you that we are a long way away from that. A long way. As much as we don’t like certain things that go on in this country, I myself don’t like certain things that go on in this country. Are we at that point where we need a revolution? No, we are not. And I will stand on that. Again, there’s some of you listening that would disagree with me. Some of you that run down these rabbit holes of conspiracy theories and follow all the nut jobs that are out there, which there’s plenty of, you probably would disagree with me. I’m sorry, though. Don’t fall into the nut job camp or you become one. Literally, you become one. So be careful what rabbit trail you go down and who you follow. And I’ll continue to say this. Every one of these guys and gals, but they’re mostly guys, that are on because it’s generally social media because they’re generally not in other forms of media because they can’t be for obvious reasons. So it’s typically social media where most of these guys have a voice, get a platform. And as I’ve said, and I just can’t seem to get through this into people’s heads enough, every single time you click on a video, you watch an ad, you forward that particular video onto somebody else or that particular website onto somebody else, or you search around on the website even, every single time you do that, that other person is making money. The person behind that operation is making money. That’s how it works. They call it influencers. And I don’t think most of my audience really understands how much money is in the influencing end of things. And it’s a ton of money if you do it correctly. And if you look at any of these influencers that even get up into the 100,000 range of followers, and some will have millions, but if you get to 100,000, you can make a living. You could quit your job. I’m not exaggerating. You could literally quit your job with 100,000 followers, make content every single day, and make more money than you would in your job. That’s why a lot of people want to be an influencer. And if you get up into the millions, you’re making really good money. I mean, you’re making enough money that if you ran that gig for four or five years and saved your money and did it correctly, you wouldn’t have to work again. And I’m not exaggerating when I say that. There are millions to be made from some of these content creators, and they do. Now, a lot of them, I believe, blow it and they burn it as fast as they make it, like a lot of professional athletes do. and they’re no better off when it’s all said and done. But the smart ones that are tucking money away, they literally could be an influencer for four or five years and not ever have to work again. So where I’m going with this is be careful of the content that you watch and how much stake you put into it because every one of these guys is sensationalizing what they’re saying. Trust me, they’re sensationalizing what they’re saying on your back so they can make money. It’s not, by the way, and you notice I didn’t say on behalf of you. I said on your back. Because they’re not doing it for you. They’re doing it because of you, because you’re watching, and they can make money. So every single time you go down a rabbit hole of some conspiracy guru that’s out there that’s got some different idea of something that’s going on, and here’s the real answer, the more people that watch that video, the more money that guy makes or that gal makes. It’s, by the way, why the wackadoodles like Candace Owens are still out there, because she can make money doing what she’s doing, even though nobody else will pay her to do what she’s doing. But because people watch her, I won’t. But because people watch her, that’s how she makes money. And dovetailing back into the story of what these gals are doing against ICE, don’t fall into that same trap. They fell into the trap of feeling like they can take the law into their own hands because they don’t like the immigration system right now. They don’t like what’s happening under the Trump administration. They feel like the laws are too harsh. They don’t think I should be out doing what they’re doing, so we’re just going to take the law into our own hands. Folks, our side can be guilty of the same thing. And as a side note, if you’re following – and I realize you can’t always throw the baby out with the bathwater, but if you’re following – Anybody that’s on the so-called right, and I question whether I’m even using that term correctly, but if you’re following anybody that’s on the so-called right that’s a flat earther, that promotes all these stupid conspiracy theories that are out there along those same lines, that calls himself a Christian nationalist because the way these guys are using it is not the same way that a true Christian that is for the nation would use it, Anybody that would throw Jews and all sorts of other people groups into the same people group and criticize them for all of the woes of the earth, please be careful, folks. Those are wackadoodles. Those people are not sane. Well, maybe they are, actually. Let me rephrase that. I think they full well know what they’re doing and I think they found their niche. They may end up believing some of what they spew out, but I think initially they do it because they know there’s money to be made from the likes of some of you that will listen to them. And so they start going down that rabbit hole themselves and they start building content along those lines and then the money starts rolling in and then they get caught up in it and it just keeps going and going and going. Yeah, Charlie says do not watch them for your own entertainment. Because as I said a moment ago, that’s how they’re making money. Find other things to entertain yourself with. And I mean that sincerely. I watch none of these guys. In fact, if anybody sends me anything from somebody that within two or three seconds I can do a quick search and know who these people are, I’m done. I’m not listening to them. I’m not giving them that credit. So Veteran Windows and Doors coming up next, folks. Again, cut the middleman out. Get that window and door straight from the manufacturer to you. The best export we have is common sense. You’re listening to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 08 :
And we are back. Rush to Reason. Our guest right now, Amy Gomez, joining us. Amy, welcome. How are you?
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m doing good. How are you?
SPEAKER 08 :
I’m doing very well. You are a candidate for the 27J school board. Let’s start with where is 27J?
SPEAKER 07 :
So 27J is primarily located in Brighton, Colorado. It also encompasses some of Thornton and some of Weld County, some of Reunion, Commerce City.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Big area. So kind of that northeast end of the metro area. And again, one of the things I always ask is why the school board? What are you seeing and why do you want to do this?
SPEAKER 07 :
Sure. My why is I think that my awareness was definitely heightened during COVID. Just going through COVID as a parent in this public school setting was just really alarming to me just to realize that our lack of freedom, that we have our lack of parental choice, and just really realizing that the public school system seems to have a bit of a control over our children, that really doesn’t feel good. So I think I just really became passionate at that time, got involved and helped as many friends that I could that were deciding to run at that time. And then during COVID and for the last five years, my own older daughter, who’s 16 now, has just been really struggling to catch up. And just her academics have just been plummeting. And so after multiple attempts to try and get support within the district, I ended up having to unfortunately pull her out and find additional options for her, which was a great choice in the long run. But just really seeing my own kids struggle and then just keeping an eye on test scores that are just getting lower and lower and lower. I just really feel like passionate about trying to help that situation. You know, it’s a national crisis. The 27J is no exception. Adams County as a whole just ranked the lowest County in Colorado for test scores.
SPEAKER 08 :
And correct me if I’m wrong, Amy, because it wasn’t, I mean, I’m old and time flies, but it seems like it wasn’t that long ago that Adams County had one of our higher scores in the state, or am I wrong in saying that?
SPEAKER 07 :
You know, I am not sure. I don’t want to give an incorrect answer to that. I’m not exactly sure on historic test scores for Adams County. I want to admit, you know, like, unfortunately, I wasn’t as plugged in as I should have been. And so now I’m just like waking up to how involved I truly need to be as a parent. And it is ultimately my responsibility to ensure my kids are where they should be right now.
SPEAKER 08 :
What was one of the biggest eye-openers? I mean, you just mentioned COVID, some of the things that you saw, but as a parent, what were some of the bigger eye-openers that you saw?
SPEAKER 07 :
I think during COVID time specifically and trying to help my kids academically at home, knowing that there’s really only like two hours of content that we had to help them with in the day. So it’s like, what are we doing the other six and a half hours that are there? It just was really shocking to me. Now, given they might have had some type of tailored homework for us to do, but it just really felt like the content was so minimal, yet they’re there all day long. And so what are they doing while they’re there?
SPEAKER 08 :
And I did a quick search as you were talking. And yes, there was a time where Adams 12, Adams 14, the five-star schools, quote unquote, were one of the higher districts, higher ranking districts prior to COVID. And yes, you are correct. In fact, they have definitely dropped since then. So everything you’re saying is correct. And that area was one of our higher areas at one time.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes. Yeah. It’s so disappointing to look at schools right now.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. So as a school board member, number one, what are some of your responsibilities and what would you, you know, in other words, what do you want to change if you can get elected?
SPEAKER 07 :
So kind of along the lines of everything I mentioned, the one thing I really want to focus on, and this can sound so cliche, but it’s not, and it is a huge problem, is just really honing in on ensuring students graduate at grade level. It sounds so simple, but 27J specifically is promoting an 87% graduation rate right now. But what good is that if students are graduating severely below grade level? They’re not prepared for life. They’re not equipped for just the basics when they leave those doors. So with that said, I want to really focus on prioritizing core learning, getting back to those basic foundational subjects, and then I think also strengthening parent-partner school partnerships because without that, you know, we don’t have the success that we need. And if you as a parent are desiring academic success, parents have to be able to partnership with the district and just on the board in general. I mean, board members are responsible for policies and looking at budgets and ensuring taxpayer dollars are well managed and looking at staff compensation and retention and all of those things that kind of go with making sure the district is successful and running smooth as a whole.
SPEAKER 08 :
And you’re talking to somebody that believes wholeheartedly that we’re very bloated in the public school system on the admin end of things. We don’t do enough on the actual education side. We blow so much money in areas. And frankly, now, especially with AI that’s come into the midst, there’s just no sense in having a lot of the admin side. that’s there, frankly, Amy. In fact, I’m not saying we even need an increase in dollars. We just need to, in fact, I would tell you this, get the dollars spent correctly. You could actually lower some of these mill levies and things that people are paying for if you do it correctly.
SPEAKER 07 :
I agree. And I think like just talking to some of my neighbors, I think that that’s another thing that really needs to be kind of evaluated, even just the communication around where the money is going. Sure, it’s in a newsletter here and there, but we really have to kind of focus and identify how are we going to show where this money is going and what it’s really doing. And to your point, I mean, let’s get it back to the foundation, to the education, to the content, to the material.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, in fact, and I’ve heard this even from teachers inside the schools that are very, very disappointed in the way things are run. In fact, to the point where some of them would like to go do something. I mean, these are good, solid Christian parents themselves, and they are frustrated. They would like to go do something else. They feel like they’re sort of stuck. They’ve spent enough time there now to where— I can’t blame them. They want to get their retirement someday, so they’re sticking things out. But they’re extremely frustrated with where things are going. And by the way, they would agree with everything I just said a moment ago. In some cases, too many principals, too many admins, too many people that are higher than them that, frankly, have nothing to do with teaching kids, but they’re all making more money than teachers are.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, and that goes hand-in-hand with the teachers union as well. I’m just going to call it what it is. I mean, nothing really feels like it’s for the children anymore. It all kind of feels like political pawn and game, and I really don’t feel like the children are at the center of any of the decisions being made right now, especially with admin and, like you’re saying, what you’re speaking to.
SPEAKER 08 :
And what I’m reading in my notes is you’re up against somebody that is endorsed by the teachers union, which, by the way, should tell everybody something in and of itself.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, definitely. And so just a little background on that. There’s four open seats for 27J, three of which there are no other people running. They have no opponents. They’ll get their one vote. They take the seat. I, on the other hand, am the fourth candidate and I have an opponent. And yes, she is fully endorsed and backed by the teachers union. And so what that looks like is they will do anything and everything they can to ensure she’s elected and With that said, I mean, I just want to share that I have the heart that I, you know, prayed on and have these campaign aims and missions in my heart. This is my goal. This is what I want for my children, my family, my neighbors. And so the teachers’ union, just from what I’ve experienced in the last eight weeks of campaigning, I mean, it’s a game. And I had my meet and greet last night, and the teachers’ union said, Someone on behalf of them there, as I guess you’d say, this sounds silly, but a spy. They refused to say they were there for my campaign. They sat there four tables away, listened, and I got a little interesting. Some profanity was said. It was very disheartening, and that is not how I want to represent myself whatsoever.
SPEAKER 08 :
I think you’re learning a lot about how things work. And, yeah, just a little insight from me to you. Watch your back with those folks because, man, they don’t mess around at all, Amy. I will tell you that right now. They are ruthless. They don’t want to lose. They know what it’s at stake. They have got a lot of people on the payroll, on the dole, if you would, and they don’t like losing. I’ll tell you that right now.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep, it seems like they are working tirelessly, like whatever that means, to make sure I’m not there. You’re right. I mean, I take it as a challenge because I know my God is bigger and greater, and if he wants me there, I’ll be there. And if not, I’ll keep fighting and find other avenues to fight and stick up for our children and what they need in school.
SPEAKER 08 :
I appreciate your willingness to do this. Not everybody’s got the time or the dedication or the want to, by the way, to be able to do this. 27J School Board, Amy, how do folks find you if they’re listening and they’re in your area and they got the ability to vote? How do they find you?
SPEAKER 07 :
They can find me at Facebook. I have a page, Gomez for Growth. I also have a website, www.amy427j.com. And I really just want to encourage the conservative listeners, you have to vote. Your vote is vital. I think too often people say, oh, it’s just local staff. My voice doesn’t really count. It’s just one vote. Change starts at the local level. It is imperative that we get involved. And school boards specifically, these are our future. They’re being indoctrinated from three years old preschool up. They are being filled with nasty stuff. And we have to make a change for their future now.
SPEAKER 08 :
You’re 100 percent correct. And I will remind everybody, too, that you just said it very well, Amy. There are some races and I’ve seen these happen as the course of time I’ve been on air the last decade plus. There are some of these races that literally are won by just a hundreds, you know, a few hundreds, if not a hundred or so votes. In other words, you think your vote doesn’t count in these particular situations. It counts more than anybody could ever realize.
SPEAKER 07 :
It does, because it’s such a small amount of people that are voting in the first place. And even a single neighborhood or a single church or a single group of active parents can make the smallest difference in this.
SPEAKER 08 :
That’s right. Absolutely. Well, hats off to you, Amy. We’ll do our best to support you. Thank you for coming on air. And it’s Amy, F-O-R, Amy427J.com. We’ll have that up on our show notes a little bit later as well. Amy, thank you for reaching out, and thanks for joining us, and best of luck.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes. Thank you guys for your time.

SPEAKER 09 :
Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 08 :
All right, I’m not sure some of you will hear this, but we’ve been getting some feedback in that some of you that listen to us online, you stream us, and maybe you have the ability to listen over the air instead. The streaming is having an issue right now. Not our fault. Comcast has a problem. Regional outage right now, meaning that that can be affecting all sorts of things from you receiving from us, outputting, all sorts of things can be affected by that. Some of you may be hearing us just fine. Others may not. But I thought I’d make that announcement. Some of you are calling in and texting in. And yes, we are aware of that. We, of course, in this case, have zero control over what Comcast and a regional outage means. So unfortunately we’re at their mercy just like a lot of you even in your businesses are when something like that happens. So some of you have been calling and texting and so on, that’s the scoop. So some of you that are not able to hear us as we speak or maybe you’re trying to listen because it’s clear online because of where you’re located in a building, whatever, but you’re not picking us up on the stream but you can hear us over the air, that’s why yep we’re here alive and well but comcast has a regional outage going on right now all right there was another article that i read today which i found interesting now this is probably not the end of this particular story but there’s a judge locally jefferson county judge that has ordered plaintiffs who unsuccessfully sued Tarumo. I think I’m saying that right. They have to pay their court costs, which, by the way, are over $5 million. This is a multinational medical manufacturer based out of Lakewood. They used toxic ethylene oxide as a sterilizer, and Jefferson County residents have attempted to sue for health damage. Now, to cut to the chase. The way this has worked out is the Jefferson County District Court came back and basically said this manufacturer didn’t do anything outside of the parameters of what they’re supposed to do regulation-wise according to state and EPA standards. Now, the plaintiffs… in this particular case, have come back and said, well, that’s not good enough. They’re still polluting. They’re still doing things that aren’t correct. Now, according to the company, their standards are even above what the regulations are that they’re supposed to do when it comes to the sterilization process that they use, and that they’re exceeding what the regulations are. So, again, they feel like there’s no wrongdoing on their part. And so… Where I’m coming at from this is… tough to prove probably that you’ve got any kind of health issues or cancer from this particular company, and you brought a lawsuit. And again, there’s still a lawsuit. The reason why I say this isn’t the end of the story, there’s another lawsuit that’s in play, whether this one will have anything to do with that one. And it’s not uncommon for, in this particular situation, it’s not uncommon for the losing party to pay the court costs of the other party uh… party which in this case they had expert witnesses and all sorts of people they drug in and it’s roughly five million dollars is what they have spent in legal fees defending their particular case and of course there’s attorneys out there that are looking at this probably chomping at the bit thinking that they can go after a very large company And they were seeking over $200 million in damages. And, again, where does this go? Seeking $217 million, by the way, $217 million in damages. Where does this go from here? They’re going to appeal it, of course. They’re even going to appeal this particular award that’s already been issued. And the company itself has $4.2 million just in expert witness fees. So not counting any other legal fees, $4.2 million just in that alone. Now, I don’t know much about this particular case. I don’t know much about this particular company other than what I have read. And I think where I come from on this is before you sue someone, you better make sure you’ve got all your ducks in a row. And you better make sure that you know what you’re actually going after because if it comes back on you, in this particular case especially, you’re liable to be the one flipping the bill. In other words, you really lost. You didn’t just lose the case, but now you’re potentially losing money. And I get it. If you’re already destitute, poor, there’s nothing left. In this case, you’ve got cancer and your life is short anyways. I guess at the end of the day, who cares? Although… Keep in mind that there’s still other things, other avenues that these particular folk can come after. If you’ve got any kind of estate after you die, if you own any kind of assets, homes, things like that. My point is, you know, is it always the right thing to do in suing? No. I’ll be the first to tell you, no, it’s not. Unless you’ve got, you know, a really solid case, and this is where don’t let the attorneys convince you otherwise. Because a lot of these attorneys think, oh, there’s a big payday here, $217 million. And remember, in this particular case, I don’t think I’m going out on a limb and saying this. The attorneys probably get half that if they win. The attorneys will put up front a lot of the money to go through the trial and do the things necessary to get there and get to the end and so on, and they’ll front all that money, and that’s the deal they make going into it is, listen, we’ll front all the money, and if we win, we take half because we’ve got to get some of our costs recovered, and we want to make some money. And by the way, I’m not against them in doing that. But where I’m going with that is if the number is large enough, be careful because a lot of times attorneys will say, yep, let’s keep going. Let’s keep pushing forward. Let’s keep going down this path. We think we can win. Well, can they? In this case, they didn’t. And now has cost their customers, their clients, $5 million, 5.2. And here’s the other thing. They’re not on the hook for that. They’re on the hook for the money they spent in going after this company. But at the end of the day, they’re not on the hook for the fees associated with this, the other company’s fees, the $5.2 million that the other company’s out defending this. So, again, my caution is… Before you decide to sue a large corporation because you think there’s a big payday there and you see some of these attorneys with their faces all over town on billboards and so on, be really careful because at the end of the day, if you don’t win, it could be not only your livelihood but the livelihood of your entire family when it’s all said and done. And I’m not taking sides here. I’m just simply saying, listen, there’s no done deal. There’s no for sure deal. No matter what some attorney tells you, it’s not a for sure thing. And that’s where you really have to sit down and evaluate. Is this a worthwhile endeavor for us to go down this path? Because in this particular case, it didn’t. Again, they’re going to appeal this decision. They want to go to trial again in January. And there’s another case, by the way, that has been, you know, it’s a completely separate case in this particular situation. And, again, this particular case is all about this particular company only meeting the minimum regulations, and that’s not enough to escape liability. Well, honestly, then who’s at fault? Maybe you should sue the folks that set the minimum guidelines. Because if the company is doing what the guidelines say, how can you fault them? Why is it now their fault? And I’m not taking the company’s side. I’m just saying, how are they at fault? They didn’t set the regulations. Government did. State, federal, and so on. So, again, I know it’s more convoluted than that. My point is be careful in what you do and what you wish for because it may come back to bite you when it’s all said and done.
