John Rush, Andy Peth, and Richard Rush dive into the NFL’s wildest week — dissecting Jekyll-and-Hyde teams, quarterback controversies, and whether the Patriots might actually be “for real.” Then, things turn hilariously off-the-rails as the guys list their favorite binge-worthy shows and movie series: South Park’s “ManBearPig,” Harry Potter, Tulsa King, Friday Night Lights, The Sopranos, Star Trek, The Dark Knight, Game of Thrones, Seinfeld, Lord of the Rings, and more.
Mix in Broncos talk, some old-school Westerns, and Al Smith dropping estate-planning wisdom, and you’ve got a full-throttle Friday episode that proves Rush to Reason is where common sense
SPEAKER 08 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 21 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes. With your host, John Rush. My advice to you is to do what your parents did. Get a job, sir. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 01 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 11 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 20 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush, presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right, hour number two, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Myself, Andy Pate, Charlie Grimes, and Richard, are you with us now? That I am. Okay, well, are you guys ready?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, let’s do a little NFL. All right, hit it. Okay, Richard, we start with not an exciting game. The Dolphins are on the road at the Falcons, who are favored by 7.5. Miami has shown they can play against really bad teams. Can they compete against an average one?
SPEAKER 09 :
Uh… I don’t know, Andy. Real quick, I feel like this week is going to be the battle of which team can we pick an upset because there’s lots of favorites that play here this week, Andy.
SPEAKER 10 :
There really are. Lots of big spreads. Well, let me ask you this, Richard, before we even get into the rest of the games. Every year you have a few Jekyll and Hyde teams, right? When’s the last year you’ve seen this many Jekyll and Hyde teams?
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, it’s been a while. And honestly, the parent, well, Jekyll and Hyde teams, Andy, and then just the parody, it feels like this year is so much greater than in years past. Right. And I know we kind of talked about it a little bit, you know, last or a few weeks ago, just with kind of how everything’s set up this year, but it really has set the stage. If this maintains Andy to be really phenomenal for the, the remainder of the season. And like you say, I mean, you’re going to have, Some upsets and some things like that. But when these teams, these top teams play together, I think it’ll be fun. But some of these games, Andy, it’s just, especially this week, like there’s like three or four good games and the rest are just kind of stinkers, at least on the surface.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I mean, exactly. I’m going to pick the Falcons. Are you?
SPEAKER 09 :
The Dolphins just seem so bad, Andy. Believe it or not, Andy, I don’t think from everything I’ve read, I actually don’t even think they’re going to fire their coach and stuff in the middle of the season. I think they’re going to just kind of let it go, see how it goes. He’ll be fired at the end of the season. He likely goes back to San Francisco, rehabs with… Shanahan, and then the Dolphins are, man, what do you do there? Because you’ve got to get rid of Tua’s contract. So, yeah, at this point in time, the only thing I think for the Dolphins, Andy, is can they salvage Tua? Because it’s a similar situation to Rush. They owe him a lot of money moving forward, and a lot of it’s guaranteed.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I agree. I think that’s going to be the question for them. Can they salvage Tua going forward? We’ll talk about it more. Next game, the Jets. Oh my gosh, worst team in the league. They’re in the road at the Bengals. Bengals actually favored by six and a half. Is Justin Fields finished as an NFL starter?
SPEAKER 09 :
Ugh. Yeah, he should be, Andy, because to me, he’s the same player I thought he was when he was coming out, right, Andy? Yeah. Because I think he was this really talented runner. Could he make some deep throws, things like that? Yeah, but I just don’t know if he sees the field well enough to be an NFL starter. Right. And that’s probably my biggest concern with him. And maybe the bigger story here, Andy, is thinking old man Joe Flacco, you know, getting traded from the Browns to the Bengals. Although, Andy, I don’t know if he maintains throughout the season. I know people are talking about, well, if Cincy can go on a run here, they may get Joe Burrow back before the – I don’t know if I’m ready to go there yet. No, they’re not talented enough. Don’t get me wrong. It was a fun game against the Steelers last week, but –
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I think that, once again, that was the Jekyll and Hyde week, okay? They came up, they beat the Steelers, but let’s face it, since he’s not that good, Flacco’s going to win this week because it’s the Jets.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, and you’re correct, Andy. Well, the question, Andy, is does Tyrod play the full game? Because I think that he was hurt and injured, and I don’t know. I’m going to go with the Bengals here, Andy, just because I think that they would. But it also wouldn’t surprise me if the Jets did decide to bench Justin Fields, which I think the only reason they haven’t It’s because Tyrod is, again, sort of up in the air at this point in time, but that’s about it.
SPEAKER 10 :
It’ll be interesting to see. Okay, next game, the Cleveland Browns are on the road at the Patriots. Patriots, once again, another team favored by a touchdown, seven. If the Patriots go six and two, when do we start taking them seriously? Is this all because they’re playing patsies?
SPEAKER 09 :
A lot of it’s because they’re playing passes, Andy, but I think they’re coming into it a little bit. I mean, they are playing well. And, Andy, let’s be honest. Tennessee should have never fired Mike Frabel, as evidenced by them firing Brian Callahan, you know, 18 months into his gig, essentially. Good point. You know, they shouldn’t have… They shouldn’t have. I mean, Mike Rabel’s a good coach. Now, does he have some deficiencies and some things like that? Yeah, but he never really had the guy in Tennessee. I mean, Andy, for crying out loud, Mike Rabel, I think he went to an AFC championship game with Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry, if I’m not mistaken.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, Richard, let me ask you this. Doesn’t it drive you nuts when teams fire a coach who has no talent on the team? I mean, no, every team has talent, but you know what I mean, where they are clearly in the lower quarter of talent and they lose a lot of games and they get fired for it. That’s never made sense to me. No, you’re, you’re correct.
SPEAKER 09 :
And it doesn’t hear Andy. And so I think part of it with, I’ll be honest with the Patriots is I think they got a good coach. I think Drake may is something. Do I think that he’s a top 15 or do a top 10 quarterback yet? And probably not. But if he continues this trajectory, honestly, they’re only going to keep getting better. So yeah. Andy, do I think the Patriots are real? Yes. However, my only concern, I don’t think it happens this week. I’m going to take the Patriots, but they are a young team, which is good and bad, right?
SPEAKER 01 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
They’re not a young team. They, I’m with you. They sometimes get ahead of themselves. But Buffalo’s ultimately going to come out of the AFC East just because, obviously, the Dolphins and the Jets are terrible. But I could argue that the Patriots, I think, are going to fight for one of those last playoff spots.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, good for them. I hope they do it. And we’ll both take the Patsies to beat another Patsy. Okay, next up, the Giants, who are playing some pretty tough football. They are on the road at the Eagles. Eagles favored by 7.5. After a legendary collapse, do the Giants just fall apart or do they pick it up?
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, Andy, I semi-struggled with this one, and I think this will be one of the only ones we differ in, mainly because I want you and I to differ on a few games here. And so it’ll be this one. And I’ll give my reasoning. I actually have valid reasoning, which is I was impressed by the Giants last week, although I think the Broncos gifted them a lot of what happened. I don’t think Jackson Dart played tremendously well. and I think that the Broncos actually held in check Skadaboo and some of the other stuff there.
SPEAKER 10 :
Honestly, Richard, really quick, Richard. I thought it was a poorly played game by both teams. I think both teams played badly.
SPEAKER 09 :
They did, and honestly, Andy, the Broncos, well, we’ll talk about that later. They tend to play to the level of their competition, which is a sign of it. We’ll talk about that. But, yeah, Andy, I think the Giants, they don’t have the offensive weapons. However, this is a divisional game. Second time they’ve played the Eagles in three weeks. and obviously both teams coming up, well, Eagles coming off a good win, Giants coming off of a terrible loss. I’m going to go, just because they’re young, Andy, I’m going to go with the Giants here, and because you and I have to differ on a few of these. Do I believe that in my heart of hearts? No, but, you know, sometimes you and I got to be different.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, you know, I’m going to take the Eagles, but I totally agree with you. The Giants, if there is a true Jekyll and Hyde team this year, it’s them. I mean, they can beat anyone. They can literally lose to anyone. They can lose to a high school team. I mean, this team, you have no idea who’s going to show up. And so we don’t know. I’ll take the Eagles. Next game, the Bills, who I think are overrated. Okay, I think they’re seriously. I don’t think they’re going to the Super Bowl. They’re favored by seven and a half against the Panthers. Let me ask you this. Are the Bills a paper tiger? Outside of Josh Allen, is there anything special about this team? Andy, the Bills are, I feel like, a classic.
SPEAKER 09 :
And there’s nothing against them because I think the Chiefs, while they’re coming around, is you’ve got to – well, I just think the Bills have been built poorly by their GM. Agreed. And not to say you can’t do it, but they’ve sort of drafted poorly. They haven’t really picked up on guys that they should have. They’ve gotten into bad contracts, things like that. And so, Andy, yeah, I mean – I’m not scared of the Bills. Last year, I was actually more scared of the Bills, obviously, than the Broncos. But if I was an AFC team, and honestly, we’ll talk about it. If you’re the Chiefs, you’ve got to be licking your chops because while you’re having a down year… Everyone, again, the parody that we talked about is just rampant throughout the league. And so, obviously, I’m going to, especially Bryce Young being out, I think Andy Dalton’s going to play for the Panthers. I think the Bills should win. They have to. But, Andy, the Bills feel like a team. They feel like the Cowboys to me. You’re going to have to beat the Bills 41-34, but I think you have the odds to do that just because their defense is so poor and there’s just nothing else around Josh Allen.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, honestly, I look at the Chiefs, Broncos, and Colts, and I think the Bills have no chance at the Super Bowl. Any of those three teams blows them out in the playoffs. That’s what I think. Okay, next game, the Bears are on the road at the Ravens. Ravens are favored by 6.5. Now, when was the last time a 1-5 team was a touchdown favorite over a 4-2 team?
SPEAKER 09 :
It’s been a while, Andy. Are you kidding me? I guess the bookmakers have a lot of confidence in Lamar Jackson because that’s the only reason for it, and I think he plays Andy. But my question for you is, even if Lamar does come back, is he the same player before injury, after injury, whatever it would be, is he the same player this year as he has been the past few years?
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, it just depends on how much rust. I mean, look, I’m going to tell you right now, I’m picking the upset. Okay, I’m picking the Bears because I think the Ravens’ defense sucks. I don’t think the Ravens are a threat to anybody right now. They’re bad.
SPEAKER 09 :
And that’s the key, Andy, as well. I think Lamar Jackson can come back. You’ve seen some stuff this past year that’s concerning to me, and that is even when he was playing, wasn’t getting much help around him, and he was kind of trying to do a little bit too much hero ball, too much what Shador Sanders did at Colorado last year, and I feel like defenses are sort of figuring that out. Yeah. I’m with you, Andy. And actually, you know what? I’ll go with you too, Andy. I’m going to go with the Bears as well just because I don’t know. And maybe it’s just to cover the spread. I don’t know. But I just think that the Ravens are in a world of hurt, and I actually think that they’re more wounded than what they’re leading on and what the media wants you to believe.
SPEAKER 10 :
I think if you show up at all, you score at least 35 on that team. Their defense is awful. Okay, and that’s just what I think. So, okay, next game. So we take the Bears. The 49ers, physical team, they’re on the road at the Texans. This, once again, the Texans are favored by one and a half. I don’t get it. Will the Texans finally play to their talent level at home? Why are they favored?
SPEAKER 09 :
The only reason they’re favored, Amy, is because their defense is pretty good. It is. Really good, in fact. Yeah. And that’s the only thing that kept him in that game on Monday night. However, the 49ers, Andy, are like the little engine that could with old Mac Jones at quarterback that just keeps… chugging along and doing everything that he can to will that team. And honestly, again, we talked about it at the beginning of the year, Andy, Mac Jones is probably the quarterback that the 49ers should have drafted. They would have never had to move up for Justin Fields, or not for Justin Fields, for a Trey Lance, but different conversations. So I don’t get it, Andy. I think this is a close game just because West Coast team’s going there. But I just don’t trust the Texans, Andy, and C.J. Stroud is. Man, I mean, you want to talk about last year’s sophomore slump. This year, he’s all messed up. Junior slump. I’m going to go with the 49ers as the upset, Andy.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, in fact, okay, you’ve explained to me why the Texans are favored. Now explain the meaning of life because it’s about equally as hard. Okay, let’s move on. We’ll both take the Niners. Next game, the Buccaneers having a pretty good year. They were favored by three and a half at the Saints. Does Baker have any healthy targets left?
SPEAKER 09 :
I think Buka is going to be back. Poor Mike Evans. So the rookie. He was going for the record. Yeah, he’s not. Obviously, he’s out, you know, broken collarbone. Right. And Dodgers is coming back, but not this week, Andy. This is going to be a tighter game. I just think, honestly, I just think that the Buccaneers are going to come back, and I think the Saints are that bad, right? That’s probably more of what it is. I just don’t think the Saints are a very good team this year, which no one anticipated. I don’t care that this is a divisional game. I think the Buccaneers may limp to the finish here, Andy, but they’re going to at least get through this game. They will win it, and they will go on to their bye and hopefully get some healthy people back for the stretch run.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I agree. I’ll take the Bucs. I’ll say this, too. The Saints are a perfect example of do not fire the coach because, in my opinion, they have the least talent in the NFL, but they always play hard.
SPEAKER 09 :
Andy, also, don’t fire a coach. And then Sean Payton did this. Don’t sacrifice the presence. And I get why they did it because they did a lot of it with Drew Brees there.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
But if you’re going to do it, you better win because otherwise you’re going to be in. I mean, they’re in for a world of hurt this year and next.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I totally agree. They have no future. Okay, next. The Cowboys are coming to the Broncos. Now, with the league worst defense, we’ve been talking about bad defenses. The Broncos are going to face the worst one. I think out of 32 teams, I put the Cowboys 32nd. Will Dallas get Denver to punt even once in this game? And I’m serious. I don’t think Denver will punt. The answer is yes.
SPEAKER 09 :
Because our offense is, you want to talk about Jekyll and Hyde. It is. Our offense is so Jekyll and Hyde that you don’t know what you’re going to get. And it would not surprise me for the Broncos to come out and go three and out. And the Cowboys look like thinking, you know, the 85 Bears.
SPEAKER 10 :
But everybody’s going to be wide open. They can’t cover. I mean, not only can they not cover anyone. They’re not close. I’ve seen a few Cowboy games this year. Every receiver is running like he’s in his own world. It’s just incredible.
SPEAKER 09 :
I will take your word for it, Andy. And Diggs is out there top corner. Awful. I said it before. The Broncos tend to play to their level of competition. And so my hope is… that they play to the level of the Cowboys’ offense. Because equally as bad as the Cowboys’ defense is, Andy, their offense is top five in the NFL. They are really stinking good. Dak is having a career year, and that’s actually without having C.D. Lambert a little bit of time so far. So, you know what, Andy? Well, do I play that way? I don’t know if I can, Andy. I was going to say, I want to pick the Cowboys. I do. Do it. Because then if I’m wrong, I’m going to pick the Cowboys. You’ve done that before. Because if I’m wrong, I know, and it’s worked out. So I’m going to pick the Cowboys.
SPEAKER 10 :
I’m going to take the Broncos because I think they have the league’s best defense, and I don’t care about the Cowboys’ offense going into this altitude. And by the way, you saw what happened in the fourth quarter with the opposition sucking wind this last week. I don’t think Dallas comes into this altitude and puts up a great game against this great defense. I just don’t see it. I’ll take the Broncos. Next game. The Titans are awful. They’re on the road at the Colts. Here’s my question. Are forfeits a viable option in the NFL? Can you legally forfeit and just not go? Or do you get in trouble?
SPEAKER 09 :
You’d like to think so, Andy, with this team. Unfortunately, I don’t think they allow that unless you don’t have enough players or something.
SPEAKER 10 :
Maybe you could ask President Trump to send in the National Guard instead. Put them in helmets.
SPEAKER 09 :
The Colts will be killing it. Yeah, Andy. And I actually like Cam Warren. He’s actually impressed me a little bit this year with some of his play.
SPEAKER 08 :
He’s fine.
SPEAKER 09 :
But just another team that is devoid. Well, they’re not devoid of talent because I actually think they have some talent on the defensive line there. And I actually think their offensive line isn’t too bad. But they just have no skill. They just have no help. Right. And so, yeah, it’s going to be the Colts here, Andy. And, again, we keep going through this. And to the Colts’ credit, Andy, they just keep beating the teams in front of them. And that’s all you can do.
SPEAKER 10 :
That’s right. Okay, we’ll take the Colts next game. Okay, Jekyll and Hyde meets Jekyll and Hyde in the next game. The Packers, my Packers, they’re a two-and-a-half-point favorite on the road at the Steelers. Green Bay is the only team Aaron Rodgers has never beaten. Can Jordan Love beat his mentor? Who’s going to show up? I have no idea with either team. Both of these teams can suck. Both of these teams can look lights out.
SPEAKER 09 :
I was going to say, I don’t know either, to be honest with you. This was actually the hardest pick of the week for me because I think that they’re very similar teams. I think the Steelers are really good defensively, which I think the Packers are too. And I think that the Steelers, Mike Tomlin, I think he’s a really good coach. I think Miloforo is as well. And I think Jordan Love’s a really good quarterback. And Aaron still is. But, you know, who is he coming? And like you said, he’s the only team. The Packers are the only team he hasn’t beat, obviously, for obvious reasons. Andy, I’m going to go with Aaron Rodgers here, mainly because I just don’t know if Rodgers, and this is actually from Walt, I don’t know if Rodgers and Tomlin let the Packers get one over on them at home on Sunday night. It just seems to scream, no, we’re not going to let the Packers come in and beat us.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I don’t think the Packers have a good defense at all. I think they’ve got some great pass rushers. But you see, the Broncos have defensive tackles. They’ve got corners. They’ve got the rest of the defense. We don’t. So we’ve got a bunch of pass rushers who just get pushed wide every play. And so I don’t think it’s going to matter. I’m going to take the Steelers, too. Last game. The Commanders are going against the Chiefs. Chiefs are favored by 11.5. What happened to the team that was in the NFC Championship last year? They’re awful.
SPEAKER 09 :
The commanders. You know, Andy, what happened? They regressed a little bit. They excelled and over-exceeded a little bit last year, which is fine. Don’t get me wrong. And their quarterback has been hurt part of the year, which was one of the concerns of you and myself.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 09 :
When he was coming out of the draft, he has a very slight frame, right, folks? Which is to say, he’s a skinny guy playing quarterback. Who runs a lot. In the NFL… Yeah, a skinny guy who runs a lot, Andy. Not a skinny guy who gets rid of the ball. He’s a skinny guy who runs a lot and does a lot of different things. So I would say to me, I actually think the NFL is disappointed because this was supposed to be one of their premier matchups, especially on Monday Night Football. Mahomes against Daniels and a great matchup. Touche to him. I actually think he’s a really good backup quarterback in the NFL. The Chiefs are kind of coming into their own. They’re experimenting with stuff. They’re finding their way. And unfortunately, they seem to be gaining some traction, Andy, as the year goes on. And I don’t think that stops here. It’s going to be by big. The question is, do they shut out the Commanders like they did the Ravens? I don’t think so. I think the Commanders will play hard. But unfortunately, I think the Chiefs will win.
SPEAKER 05 :
And I’ll take the Chiefs, too. There you go, John. All right, Paul Leuenberger is next, folks. Again, he is my insurance broker. He can be yours as well. SPEAKER 17 :
Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks. SPEAKER 05 :
All right, we are back. Binge-worthy movies, TV shows, you name it, Andy, fire it off.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, I’ve got to start with an obvious one right here from Colorado, and that is South Park. This is a long clip, but it’s just worth it. It’s Al Gore comes to town and talks about ManBearPig. Here we go.
SPEAKER 17 :
Al Gore.
SPEAKER 12 :
talking to the students. Thank you, Mr. Mackey, students of South Park Elementary.
SPEAKER 11 :
I’m here to educate you about the single biggest threat to our planet. You see, there is something out there which threatens our very existence and may be the end to the human race as we know it. I’m talking, of course, about ManBearPig.
SPEAKER 14 :
ManBearPig?
SPEAKER 11 :
It is a creature which roams the earth alone. It is half man, half bear, and half pig. Some people say that ManBearPig isn’t real. Well, I’m here to tell you now, ManBearPig is very real, and he most certainly exists. I’m cereal. ManBearPig doesn’t care who you are or what you’ve done. ManBearPig simply wants to get you. I’m super cereal. But have no fear, because I am here to save you. And someday, when the world is rid of ManBearPig, everyone will say, thank you, Al Gore. You’re super awesome. The end.
SPEAKER 05 :
Everybody’s just staring. ManBearPig.
SPEAKER 10 :
ManBearPig. So for the rest of the episode, they’re actually trying to find ManBearPig. That’s pretty funny, actually. Richard, did you ever see that episode?
SPEAKER 09 :
You know, Andy, I think man-bear-pig is just as believable as, or more than believable than actual climate change, you know, Mr. Gore. It is. As he might say.
SPEAKER 10 :
I just love it. Half man, half bear, half pig.
SPEAKER 09 :
I think the best part about South Park is that they don’t care who you are. They make fun of everyone. It doesn’t matter. And that’s perfect. That’s sort of what it is. That’s what comedy is supposed to be.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, I totally agree. Okay, Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right, Andy, for bingeable shows, I’m going to go to one that, Dad, I know that you don’t do or whatever it might be. But that’s okay. Harry Potter, especially around Halloween here.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, that’s definitely not my favorite.
SPEAKER 09 :
It’s very well done, well written, everything.
SPEAKER 10 :
Let me just play a little of the theme song when people hear this. Okay.
SPEAKER 1 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
And you hear that at the beginning of each one, and you know the magic is about to happen. And, John, I’m telling you, it is a great set of characters. And, Richard, isn’t it fun, like on a Harry Potter weekend, when you can just tune in and watch a bunch of them?
SPEAKER 09 :
It’s one of those things. They go together really well. They have good action. Some of them are a little bit slower than the others, right? And they take a little bit of time to get going. But it’s so worth it. So well written. So well done. And especially, I’ll be honest with you, J.K. Rowling being the… I guess not quite conservative that she is, but at least the anti- craziness out there, I’ll watch them whenever I get a chance.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, and also the cast on Harry Potter is really good, and they too would score at will on the Cowboys. Just so you know. All of them.
SPEAKER 05 :
Even J.K.
SPEAKER 10 :
Rawlings would score on the Cowboys.
SPEAKER 05 :
John, you’re up. Only because you said Sylvester Stallone earlier, and it’s kind of a cheesy show, but it’s actually really good, and when one episode ends, you do want to watch the next episode, so it makes binge-watching very easy, and that’s Tulsa King. It’s the new series he’s out in. It’s not bad at all.
SPEAKER 1 :
No.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, it’s not probably for kids because the language can get a little rough at times, but it is good.
SPEAKER 10 :
I just like him.
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s a good movie. It’s a good show, actually. It really is. It’s not bad at all. So if you haven’t seen it, it’s worth watching. John and Cheyenne, go ahead.
SPEAKER 07 :
Hey, guys. How are you? Good. Hey, John. Hey, can I make a quick comment on last Sunday’s game? Sure. Andy? Yeah. Okay. No, just Andy. Missed extra points. You fire your kicker after that. Yeah. You don’t. Go chasing the missed extra point with a two-point conversion in the first half. It’s just bad coaching. It was.
SPEAKER 10 :
But you’ve got to keep in mind, though, John, the reason the game got close, a lot of it was the altitude. They’re a young team. They weren’t ready. Their legs were gone in the fourth quarter. Their legs were absolutely gone. You could tell. Two other comments. I’ve seen it happen so many times.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s dark. Beats that ball and doesn’t throw that intersection and they punt and make the Broncos drive the length of the field. They probably win. And then the other thing is on the last set of depth, you know, after they scored and took the lead back. Why do you go to prevent defense with two down linemen when your best defensive players are linemen?
SPEAKER 10 :
You don’t, and that’s basically a coach making stupid decisions and handing the game away. But you know what? Teams hand the game away when they panic, and that just happens. It happens every week. Yeah, good point.
SPEAKER 07 :
There you go. Those are just my points on that game.
SPEAKER 10 :
So what you’re saying is you are not binge-watching the film of that game, huh?
SPEAKER 07 :
No. Okay, just checking. I’d rather have a tooth pulled.
SPEAKER 05 :
I was just going to say a tooth pulled is better, yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, okay. Well, what do you binge watch? Okay, I got three, if that’s all right, two TV and a movie. Sure. TV, Star Trek Picard Season 3 was probably some of the best Star Trek since The Height of Next Generation. That was probably the best Star Trek that’s been on in a really long time. Okay. Then for movies, the John Wayne Cavalry series, Fort Apache, He Wore a Yellow Ribbon, and Rio Grande. Three great movies if you want to just binge on some old classic John Wayne movies.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, actually, I put down on my thing just John Wayne movies or just Clint Eastwood movies. I will have a weekend where I just watch that actor.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, but, you know, what’s funny is you’ve got to watch him. Do you want to watch him in Westerns, in Cavalry, as he went in the Second World War? Yeah. You can take those options. Yeah. Yeah, good point. But then the last one, and I don’t know if it’s going to come up, and I thought it was terrific, was 1923. Yeah, it’s on my list. Yeah, I thought that one would be, the second season especially, would be worth watching again. Well done, sir.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yep, good job.
SPEAKER 07 :
Thank you, sir.
SPEAKER 05 :
Absolutely, John. You guys have a good rest of the day. All right, man, appreciate you very much. All right, Andy, your turn.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, let’s see which one of you called this first. Here we go. bond james bond bond james bond so all of them just line them up oh just a group you know grab a group usually uh from one of the bonds and i’ll watch just some sean connery for an afternoon or some daniel craig for an afternoon i’ll do that it’s a lot of fun what do you think richard are you there richard oh richard richard richard and we lost him for a minute
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, now I’m here.
SPEAKER 05 :
Now you’re out.
SPEAKER 09 :
I didn’t want to talk to you. Richard. I just didn’t want to talk to Andy anymore.
SPEAKER 10 :
Do your sons always just tune you out, John? Sometimes. Oh, okay. Richard, what do you think? James Bond, would you watch a few of those?
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes, good. Binge, though, can you watch one after the other? I don’t know.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, no, I’m not talking all of James. You know what I mean? I’m talking, say, two or three from one actor, like two or three Daniel Craig’s or Pierce Brosnan or Sean Connery, that kind of thing.
SPEAKER 09 :
Fair enough. I’ll give it to you. Okay. You’re up. All right. I’m going to go TV show here, Andy, because you did open yourself up to this terrible idea for you. I did. Friday Night Lights. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Phenomenal. Good old Coach Taylor. That’s on my list.
SPEAKER 05 :
I don’t know if it’s on mine, but let me – I mean, it should be on mine. That’s a really good – oh, yeah, it’s on mine. Yeah, there it is. That’s a good one. Yep. Okay. Absolutely. John, you’re up. Let’s see here. Lincoln Lawyer. Have either one of you watched it?
SPEAKER 10 :
I have not seen Lincoln Lawyer.
SPEAKER 05 :
Not the movie. So there’s the movie with McConaughey, and then there’s the series, and the series is really good. The Netflix one, right? What’s that? That’s the Netflix one, right? Yes, and it’s very good.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay. Very good. All right. Can I go to another?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yep, absolutely.
SPEAKER 10 :
Here’s an easy one. Maybe.
SPEAKER 05 :
Maybe.
SPEAKER 18 :
Space, the final frontier.
SPEAKER 10 :
So the movies or the TV show? TV show. The old original TV show. The original show.
SPEAKER 18 :
These are the voyages of the starship.
SPEAKER 10 :
With a real man as captain.
SPEAKER 18 :
Its five-year mission, to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations.
SPEAKER 10 :
We’ll let him finish.
SPEAKER 18 :
To boldly go where no man has gone before.
SPEAKER 10 :
That was an unbelievably good show. It was. It was so cool. And the chemistry between the three main characters, spectacular.
SPEAKER 05 :
I watched it every day back in the day.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 10 :
And can I binge watch that when I’m on a Saturday afternoon? Yes, I can.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, it was good. Richard, you’re up. Oh, man. There you go, Andy. Well, I mean.
SPEAKER 10 :
You’re interesting, but hey, you know, it is what it is. I am. I’m several hundred years old, so that’s why I can do that.
SPEAKER 09 :
That you are. Okay. All right. I’m going to go with movies since, you know, movie rentals, whatever you might want to be. Okay. Back to the future. Because I feel like those are good binge watchables.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. Absolutely. That’s a good one. I didn’t think of that. Good.
SPEAKER 09 :
Good quality films there.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yep. Okay. Can’t argue that one. Go ahead, John. I’m trying to get something that we don’t talk much about. How about, because this was actually a good series and it’s worth binge watching, especially if you’re a conservative man on the high castle.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, okay. Yeah. Yeah. The bad guys won. Okay. I’m going to try this one and I’m going to see if John gets this from the music. Here we go. No? Sons of Anarchy. Oh, I never watched it. Oh, you never saw it?
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
I never watched it. Oh, there you go. Richard, did you ever see Sons of Anarchy? Yes, I did. A little bit. Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s bingeable. I never watched it.
SPEAKER 09 :
Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 05 :
Is it really good?
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. It’s good. I mean, you… Pretty good. I don’t think you would love it, but… It’s got a motorcycle game, kind of like Hell’s Angels sort of thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, I never watched it. TV version. Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
Easy enough. What’s that one? Oh, Peaky Blinders. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I started watching it, and then I got sidetracked and started watching something else. Okay, John. Actually, it’s decent. It’s good. It’s got moments. Yeah, it’s good. You’re up. Let me cross off both of these sons of anarchy, and Ozark, I’m going to say, is my next one.
SPEAKER 10 :
Ozark, yeah, that’s on my list. Okay, listen to this and guess it.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 08 :
No?
SPEAKER 05 :
Don’t know. Richard? No idea.
SPEAKER 10 :
Sopranos?
SPEAKER 05 :
Never saw it. Oh, you never saw the Sopranos? Nope, never saw it.
SPEAKER 10 :
Sorry, guys. I’m alone there. Okay, Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 09 :
I always thought, because that was HBO, right, Andy? Yeah. Yeah, you know, could not have HBO.
SPEAKER 05 :
We didn’t subscribe. I did not know that.
SPEAKER 09 :
Andy, we didn’t have luxuries in life.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, we didn’t spend money on that. We didn’t have those.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, that’s on me. I shouldn’t have played that one. Okay. I guarantee my next one will be one that Richard knows.
SPEAKER 09 :
Richard’s dad was cheap. Andy, you got to go back to the black and white days, you know, like maybe like the Andy Griffith show or something, but that’s about it.
SPEAKER 10 :
John was cheap. He made you act out the films yourself.
SPEAKER 05 :
We didn’t have that subscription.
SPEAKER 09 :
Andy, we could not have any subscriptions. Andy, when I got married on my own, I realized there’s a whole new world that you can actually subscribe to different channels. I had no idea. Wow.
SPEAKER 05 :
Because we didn’t.
SPEAKER 10 :
There’s a whole new world that has entertainment.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, we didn’t.
SPEAKER 09 :
Exactly. Entertainment values, Andy. Go ahead. All right. Jurassic Park. That’s a good bingeable little. Although the first one’s obviously the best. Or maybe Jurassic World, Andy, because the first two of those aren’t too bad.
SPEAKER 10 :
I like the first one the best. Jeff Goldblum in his prime. Yeah. Okay, John.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, my next one is, and I think Richard will understand this. I don’t know if Andy watched this. I don’t know if Charlie did either. Billions until COVID, because then it got all screwed up after COVID. Oh, yeah. Am I right, Richard? It was really good until COVID hit, and then it was awful after that.
SPEAKER 08 :
I never saw it. Yeah, well, you got Bobby Axelrod.
SPEAKER 05 :
Come on, Andy. For Mr. Capitalist, it’s definitely worth watching.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, I’m sorry. We all see different things.
SPEAKER 05 :
It’s good. Until, again, until COVID hit, and then it got awful.
SPEAKER 10 :
I can’t believe you guys haven’t said the one. But anyway, go ahead, Joe.
SPEAKER 05 :
Let me get Joe going here. Go ahead, Joe.
SPEAKER 03 :
Guys, I got a couple. One is the Emmy Award-winning series Justified with Timothy Olyphant about a U.S. marshal. I like him.
SPEAKER 05 :
I’ve only seen a couple of episodes. I don’t know why. I just can’t – I don’t know why I can’t get into it. It’s good.
SPEAKER 03 :
It didn’t hook you.
SPEAKER 05 :
No, I don’t know why.
SPEAKER 03 :
It won so many Emmy Awards. It wasn’t on a major network. I think it was on TNT or something. Right. But, you know, and every season.
SPEAKER 10 :
Joe, does it make you happy to watch? Does it bring happiness? Because that would be why John wouldn’t watch it. Yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
You know, and typically just how he winds up, you know, killing some bad guys, you know. And, of course, he’s back to Kentucky where he grew up. Half the people he’s fighting or trying to arrest and put in jail are guys he went to high school with. Good. Yeah. Anyway, that was one. Burn Notice, one of the greatest spy theories. I never watched it either. No, I saw some of that. It was good. You don’t know what you’re missing. Burn Notice, what a great series. And, of course, any of the Reacher series, which, you know, on Amazon Prime, I think each one is, you know, eight to ten episodes long, and there’s been three of them, three seasons. Another sleeper, which is on Amazon Prime, Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch. Mr. Cumberbatch? I like him. I like him. But set in modern-day London, it’s a great twist on a classic. Never saw it. John, you don’t know if you’re a Sherlock Holmes fan. It’s just incredible. Okay. And one that has become, I’ve just started watching again, it is even more relevant today than it was 15 years ago, Person of Interest, which was a TV series.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, yeah, good show. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER 03 :
And think about it. Never once, I think the series ran for five years. It’s about a computer geek who has invented a computer system that he built for the government. It’s basically AI. Yeah, that today we would call it AI. Never once in the five years did they refer to it as AI. That’s what it was. That’s what it was, and it can identify. It listens to every email, every phone call, every text message, every traffic camera, every purchase, and can predict when somebody’s going to be killed. Okay. Yeah, it’s good. It’s so relevant today because… Back then it was science fiction. Today it could be reality. It’s reality.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, yeah. No, good one. Good one, Joe. Caviezel, that was a good one. Good job, Joe. All right, appreciate it. Let’s do this. We’ll take a break. We’ll come back. We’ll keep rolling. Golden Eagle Financial coming up next. Al Smith. Find Al at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 19 :
This is TJ with KLZ Radio. Once again, we’re back with Golden Eagle Financial and the wonderful Al Smith. Al, how are you today? I’m doing great, TJ. How are you? I’m doing well. Hey, we work a lot with estate plans and things like that and that’s a natural part of retirement plans. I know you’re not an attorney, but what do you do where it’s related to estate plans?
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, a large part of estate planning is the simple end of it, which is beneficiary designations on various financial products, such as IRAs or life insurance or investment accounts, because as people name those beneficiaries, there’s a feature called per stirpus for contingent beneficiaries. And essentially what that means, let’s say if there’s a married couple and one of their children dies before the primary spouse and then the spouse passes on, then when the primary person passes, rather than having it be divided equally between the children, it would go only to the one who didn’t pass on and then the grandchildren would be disinherited. I hope that’s not too confusing, but essentially the word per stirpus in a beneficiary designation would mean if that beneficiary died, his or her share would pass down the bloodline to the grandchildren.
SPEAKER 19 :
Sounds like a serious word. So I would also guess that you have a pretty vast network so you can direct folks to the right people to complete those, right?
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, that I can do myself. That’s not a document for an attorney or anything like that. That is just a little box to check on a beneficiary designation for an IRA, an annuity, a life insurance contract, an investment account. Those beneficiary forms, they just have a person’s name, and then they have a box to check either per stirpus or per capita. Per capita means… the proceeds would go to the other party who hasn’t passed on. Per stirpus means the proceeds, if the primary person who is named is deceased, then his or her share would go down the bloodline to their own children. Not to an ex-surviving spouse, but down the bloodline.
SPEAKER 19 :
That’s great. So folks can get in touch with you and really get kind of a total form of all their retirement stuff. Al, how do folks do that? How do they get in touch with you?
SPEAKER 13 :
Well, you can reach me at 303-744-1128. If you’re driving when you hear this, get in touch with KLZ. They’ll put you in touch with me so we can arrange either a healthy conversation on the phone or for you to come into the office. We’ll have a cup of coffee and talk about whatever’s on your mind.
SPEAKER 19 :
And as always, klzradio.com slash money will get you there. Al, thanks so much today.
SPEAKER 13 :
Hey, you’re welcome. Thanks for having me, TJ.
SPEAKER 20 :
Live and local. Back to Rush to Reason. And we are back. All right, Andy, take it away.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, we’re going to have to go rapid fire. But first, Richard, this one’s for you. It’s a movie trilogy that I think you’re going to recognize the music. Here we go.
SPEAKER 05 :
Richard? Any ideas?
SPEAKER 08 :
I don’t know, Andy. I don’t either.
SPEAKER 05 :
You’re kidding. Listen.
SPEAKER 10 :
You’re kidding. No. How to train your dragon.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, I did not at all, Andy. Not way over. Really? Wow. Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
I mean, I love it, but I did not even recognize it. Okay. Well, anyway, How to Train Your Dragon, you can watch those back to back to back. They’re really good. Richard, you’re up. Let’s go rapid fire. Here we go. Lost. I can’t believe you haven’t mentioned that one yet, Dan. Yeah, Lost is a good one. Classic. Tracker for me. Okay. How about Pirates of the Caribbean? That one works. You can watch them. Richard, go.
SPEAKER 09 :
Let’s see here, Andy. Oh, Andy, we would not be doing a binge-watchable thing if we didn’t mention Mad Max. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 10 :
Absolutely. Awful.
SPEAKER 09 :
Especially for you, Dan.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, go ahead, John.
SPEAKER 1 :
24.
SPEAKER 05 :
There’s like 15 season or some dumb thing. No, there’s not that many, but there’s a lot.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, here’s one that was good except for the last season. Game of Thrones.
SPEAKER 05 :
Never saw it.
SPEAKER 10 :
Richard, you’re up. Missing out.
SPEAKER 09 :
The Dark Knight, Andy.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, yes.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, yes. John. This is an interesting series. I’ve watched a couple of seasons, and I kind of got distracted, but Banshee. Banshee.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, good. Here’s one that started off great and then fell apart, Lucifer.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, I didn’t watch it ever.
SPEAKER 10 :
Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right, well, if we’re going to go TV shows now, I got to say the show about nothing, which is Seinfeld. Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER 05 :
Absolutely. Which, if you’re going to go down that road, let’s go Schitt’s Creek. Absolutely hilarious.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, one of the ultimate watch several in a row, Star Wars.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh yeah, good one.
SPEAKER 10 :
Gotta go with that. Richard, go.
SPEAKER 09 :
Maybe one of the most underrated funny shows out there, Andy, Parks and Rec.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, that’s pretty funny. Okay, this one you guys probably haven’t seen. Billy Bob Thornton, Goliath is the name of the series. I have not seen it. It’s a great series. Very good things. It’s awesome.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, here’s one a lot of people know, Stranger Things.
SPEAKER 05 :
I don’t know that one.
SPEAKER 10 :
I got a clip. We don’t have time. Go, Richard. Did we do, we didn’t do break.
SPEAKER 05 :
Do what? Breaking Bad? No, that one counts. Yep, that’s on my list. Well, if you’re going to do that, go Better Call Saul.
SPEAKER 10 :
Got to go with that, absolutely.
SPEAKER 05 :
Backing it up.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, one of my favorites of all time to rewatch over and over, The X-Files. Mulder and Scully, love it. Richard, go.
SPEAKER 09 :
I think you’d like this one, The Bear on FX.
SPEAKER 05 :
Never seen it. The Bear, it’s called?
SPEAKER 09 :
No. It’s the guy from another series. What’s the one series? The Chicago. The guy from Fair goes in it. He’s the bad dad. Limitless? No, not Limitless. Don’t know it. But I believe you. The Bear.
SPEAKER 05 :
I don’t know it. The Bear. Okay. John, you’re up. Speaking of bears, how about Animal Kingdom, which has nothing to do with animals? It’s a great show, though.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay. Ultimate movie series to watch, Lord of the Rings. That’s if you’ve got a lot of time. Go, Richard. This was a mini-series sort of thing.
SPEAKER 05 :
We’re losing you.
SPEAKER 10 :
Chernobyl.
SPEAKER 05 :
What? Chernobyl.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, okay, yeah. Chernobyl.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
Good one. Go, John.
SPEAKER 05 :
Mayor of Kingstown.
SPEAKER 10 :
All right. How about John Wick? Come on, man.
SPEAKER 05 :
John Wick’s good.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, Richard, go. Oh, let’s see here.
SPEAKER 05 :
Firefly. Pulling things out now. Yep. Somebody mentioned that one as well. And this will be our last one. Then we’ve got to take a break. I’m going to go with Reacher.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :

Okay, I’m going to do Queen of the South, Jack Ryan, The Night Agent, which, by the way, has turned out to be a fairly decent, fairly new one, and let’s do Fargo. Not the series, not the movie.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right, right, right. Okay, Chuck, Friends, Frasier, and let’s see here, Big Bang Theory, Gotham, La Femme Nikita.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, how about Heroes and Terminalist?
SPEAKER 10 :
