In this episode of ‘Rush to Reason,’ John Rush dives deep into the murky waters of political messaging, dissecting why the Republican party often falls short in effectively communicating their initiatives. With guests Ben and Bob, they explore the cost implications of White House expansions under Trump’s administration and how private funding plays a crucial role. Tune in to understand the unique financial dynamics of political events and learn how to see through the common misconceptions perpetuated by popular media. Alongside insightful political discussion, John highlights the strategic brilliance behind NFL’s retro jersey phenomenon and its marketing success.
SPEAKER 06 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 21 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes.
SPEAKER 06 :
With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 14 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did.
SPEAKER 04 :
Get a job, sir. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 02 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 21 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 19 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, we’re back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Thanks for tuning in. Real quick before I go to Ben, AI, and this is a really rough estimate and even said so, is the presidential motorcade is at least 5,000 a mile. So they estimate it’s 2,500 a mile, but keep in mind they only travel 30 miles an hour, so they double that up and get to 5,000. They said that is a very rough estimate at 5,000 a mile. So Ben and Evergreen, go ahead.
SPEAKER 10 :
$5,000 a mile, now getting an Uber doesn’t seem as expensive. Good one, Ben. Good one. But anyway, yeah, about this addition to the White House, dovetailing in with that transportation expense. You know, the Democrats or this Peterson, she’s worried about this expense or whatever. But… It’s private money anyway. Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
Really not much expense there. That’s right.
SPEAKER 10 :
That’s right. Somebody put a federal building up. with private money. Why should she care?
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s a great, well, because, and here’s why, Ben, and this is a great question, but here’s the answer, because at the end of the day, this is something that actually Trump is doing that’s good. The majority of people out there, if they look at it correctly, would say that it’s good. It’s going to benefit the country and future presidencies, not just this one, and they’re not going to give him that credit, Ben.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, and Trump, he’ll probably put it up under budget and under schedule.
SPEAKER 07 :
Ben, this really shows, and Charlie said this over the weekend, really shows you the Trump derangement syndrome, the TDS, that really is real. It shows you how alive and well it still is.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, yeah. It’s like there was this No Kings protest. You know, if I’d have had that day to do over, I’d have gone and asked them, wait a minute, which… you’re you say no kings what you mean you want burger king to go out of business good one good one and and by the way back to this this white house thing you know they’re worried about wasted money which isn’t really the case no it isn’t but if you if they’re so worried about it her or anybody else just going back and this is only one example of many but back when 9 11 happened They admitted that there was $3 trillion missing from the federal budget, which they probably know where it is. I mean, really, what did they do? Leave it in a cigar box on a table? Doubtful. And it’s like, well, wait a minute. If you’re so worried about the money, let’s go find that $3 trillion.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. By the way, Democrats never been worried about the money, Ben. You know that as well as I.
SPEAKER 10 :
And this money he’s spending, it’s pocket change compared to a trillion dollars. Good point. It’s like there’s a million millions in a trillion. And they’re worried about $300 million for this?
SPEAKER 07 :
Again, I go back to what I was talking to with Joe, Ben, and this is my only complaint with all of this, because I think what we’re doing is great. I think Trump’s doing a great job. I think the addition is fine. I have no issues with it. My biggest complaint, and it’s my complaint every day, Every bloody single time. Why do we fail at the messaging of these things, Ben? Again, we should have said, listen, we’re going to expand this wing. Here’s what we’re going to do. It’s already slated. We’ve got the money raised. Not going to be a dime out of taxpayers’ pockets when it’s all said and done. And, oh, by the way, here’s what we spend on average per event right now.
SPEAKER 10 :
I agree. And beyond that, you know, we have… I’m not into big government or a lot of times even big business, but you want to make a statement. I mean, it’s the White House, not an outhouse. Right, exactly. So fix it up. Right, I agree with you. If I went by there and I saw leaky ceilings and worn out carpet, I’m like, I could have stayed home and dealt with that. Right. I agree. And so there’s nothing wrong with this. It’s just the left doing what they’re doing. And I agree. It’s messaging. That’s part of why I called in today. I agree with what Joe was saying and you. You’ve got to present the message in such a way that it’s going to be accepted. But so much of this politics, it’s like all-star wrestling. But they’re wearing coats and ties and talking trash. And I think you’ve got to frame the message in a way that makes it more palatable, more real.
SPEAKER 07 :
Absolutely. And we don’t.
SPEAKER 10 :
And more direct to the public.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, you’re right, Ben, 100%. And that is, again, one of the biggest complaints that I have across the board. We suck at that.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, and I think part of that’s the uniparty or the rhinos. If these people really care, if you do it, you know, if you really care about something, you’re going to focus in on how to get the job done. Yeah, good point. The best way. What’s our PR campaign? Yeah, good point. How do we get this message across? These people in Colorado specifically, I don’t know about a lot of these other states, but if they can’t get out of their own way or they won’t, really, at a certain point, you almost got to conclude – if you don’t conclude, that they’re in with the Democrats. It’s like, oh, we’ll act like we’re putting up a good fight. But, hey, you know, we’re still getting paid one way or another. Can’t argue that. So, anyway.
SPEAKER 07 :

SPEAKER 07 :
And we are back. Rush to Reason, Debra’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. John, you’re next. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 11 :
Hey, John. Did you see over the weekend what that idiot Swalwell posted on X?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, Charlie was talking about that to me, and I mentioned it just before we left the first hour. The guy’s just an idiot.
SPEAKER 11 :
I mean, that guy right there is an idiot. And why? And I bet you 10 years ago or 12 years ago, he would have been sucking up to Trump like all the rest of the Democrats before Trump became conservative, looking for a handout, looking for some money.
SPEAKER 07 :
As Charlie said, it just shows you how deep Trump derangement syndrome runs.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, it does. It’s insane. And you want to talk about money, what it costs to move the president? Look up what it costs to move Marine One or to move him on Marine One just from the White House to Andrews.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I think Joe and I were figuring that each event was probably somewhere in the half a million dollar range, and I’ll bet we’re half of what we ought to be. I’ll bet it’s a million bucks an event if it’s a nickel.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, exactly. And when he travels, it costs a ton more, you know.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right.
SPEAKER 11 :
You got Air Force One, you got the backup plane. Depending on where he’s going, if he wants Marine One there, they have to send that on a C, I think it’s a C-5, maybe a C-17. Right. that helicopter goes on a plane.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right, yeah, and the whole motorcade, there’s not just one car, there’s multiples, there’s two beasts on and on. I mean, John, you start adding that up, and everything I just said has a dollar sign attached to it. It just keeps rolling.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, yeah, and if you… Beast probably gets about four miles to the gallon at most with the weight of it and with everything in it. I mean, these people that are saying he’s spending money, he’s not even spending their money.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, he’s saving the money. But again, really quick, John, I go back to the whole messaging end of things. We should be messaging what you and I and others have talked about so far. We should be saying that as Republicans, and we’re not.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, and they’re not. I know we have to battle the left-wing media, because they don’t want to give Trump a nice story either.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, they do not. That’s absolutely correct. You’re 100% correct.
SPEAKER 11 :
You have to battle them, but if you ever watch, when the Democrats come out against something, they get their talking points, and every one of them says the same thing.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, yes, they do. They get their marching orders. 100% correct.
SPEAKER 11 :
But we don’t. On the Republican side… Every Republican, every senator will say similar things but not the same thing.
SPEAKER 07 :
And we need to be more like them. In that regard, we need to be more like them.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, yeah. We definitely do. Totally agree. But the other thing, I have a question for Richard.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 11 :
I would like you to ask him. Why the Broncos wear those throwback uniforms?
SPEAKER 07 :
Every team does, I believe. I don’t know if it’s required or what, John, but you saw Pittsburgh last night on Sunday Night Football wear theirs. I don’t know what the rule is on that. I’ll ask Richard. He’ll know.
SPEAKER 11 :
The reason why is when you guys were wearing those uniforms, you lost four Super Bowls. I would want to burn those.
SPEAKER 07 :
They still, as far as throwback uniforms go, though, look better. I mean, the Steelers last night. They’re not as bad. Oh, I wanted to throw up looking at those things. They were awful.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, the Steelers’ uniforms are terrible. And why does Green Bay have to wear all white? Why can’t they just wear the white road uniforms with their regular helmet?
SPEAKER 07 :
I don’t know.
SPEAKER 11 :
Why do they have to have a special paint job on their helmet?
SPEAKER 07 :
I don’t know. Good question.
SPEAKER 11 :
It’s all marketing to sell extra jerseys and stuff.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, I think you just hit the nail on the head. That’s mostly what it is, absolutely. Which, by the way, give him credit, not a bad way to… So you get a four… I just looked it up. The NFL says you can do that up to four times in the regular season for this 2025 season. And it’s by choice. I don’t know why. Well, I think you just hit the nail on the head, John, when you look at even the stadium yesterday for the Broncos. Look at how many people had the retro gear on, which some may have had from years ago. But if not, you’re buying that stuff.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I have my old. I don’t think it fits me anymore because I was a little skinnier back then. But I still got my 80s Lawrence Taylor jersey.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and again, but to your point, a lot of people don’t. So if you want to go and fit in, you’re buying that stuff.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, I guess that would be the reason.
SPEAKER 07 :
Huge marketing ploy, by the way. To your point, huge marketing. I mean, the merchandising side of that genius, by the way. Genius.
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, absolutely. Every time. I mean, look at how many… classic jerseys sell? How many Elway jerseys did you see in the crowd yesterday? A lot.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. Great example. Nope. Great example. Yep. No. I’ll double check, but I’m sure that’s the answer, John.
SPEAKER 11 :
All right.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, man. Talk to you soon. Appreciate you, man. Have a great rest of your day. Bob and Thornton, you’re next.
SPEAKER 09 :
Are you there, John?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, Bob. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, you forgot to tell John from Cheyenne that we’re so proud of a Wyoming and kicking in $130 million to pay our soldiers. Anyway, your second-to-the-last caller needs to go back to school for his math. A billion is not a million million. It’s a thousand million.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right, a thousand millions, right. I didn’t hear him say a million billion. I didn’t hear that. I missed that.
SPEAKER 09 :
A million is a billion. It’s a thousand million. But nevertheless, nobody knows any math anymore. And I’ve gone through this with you quite often. If it wasn’t dollars, if it was just seconds, a million seconds is 11 days. A billion seconds is three years. A trillion seconds is 3,000 years, round numbers.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. It’s huge how large that number gets quickly, Bob. It’s huge.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, I guess maybe if you put your arms around, oh, a trillion, yeah. If it was seconds, it’s 3,000 years times, what, 38 trillion?
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s amazing when you look at it that way.
SPEAKER 09 :
The other complaint that I got, and I even blame Hegseth a little bit for this, All this whining about, well, there’s 40 million people that won’t get food stamps come Saturday. You know, this is a shame. Why would we have 40 million people on food stamps?
SPEAKER 07 :
And talk to most of my business owners, Bob, that’s part of the problem we have with finding good help is too many of them are addicted to government cheese.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, my God. And the other one is, like I said, even Hegseth is… throwing his two cents in on this. John, I mean, you and I are in a different position. I got a rainy day fund. You got a rainy day fund. We have, you know. But nevertheless, if you can’t go for 35 days without getting a paycheck, there’s something wrong. It’s called a credit card. You know you’re going to eventually get paid. Use your credit card until you get paid, and then pay it off.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, good point.
SPEAKER 09 :
Come on.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yep. No, I agree.
SPEAKER 09 :
Are there any people in this country that are, oh, if I don’t get a paycheck next month, I’m just going to have to die?
SPEAKER 07 :
Keep in mind, Bob, this is sort of like COVID. They’re going to find every extreme case they possibly can to put on the news, and that is not the average of what’s going on by any means, but they make it seem like it is.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, the ones that are complaining about not, you know, oh, I live in paycheck to paycheck. Yeah, they’re the ones that pay $400 to go to a concert at Red Rocks.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, and let me add something else to that, Bob. Sorry, but I’ll just say this for what it is. They’re also the person buying that $150 throwback jersey we were just talking about with John that can afford that.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, John from Cheyenne, I hope he’s still listening, and he’ll understand this. I’m a New York Stater, you know, but we didn’t have baseball. We had AA, but nevertheless, we followed the Yankees. Do you know the Yankees, for as long as I can remember, had two uniforms? Home and away. And their home uniforms didn’t even have their name on the back.
SPEAKER 08 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 09 :
If you didn’t know their number and who they were, we’re not even going to sew that on. Now their away uniforms, they started putting the names out.
SPEAKER 07 :
Got it.
SPEAKER 09 :
Today, they have home and away.
SPEAKER 07 :
Interesting. That’s interesting. Now, good story. Bob, I’ve got to run. Appreciate you very much, as always. Always a great call. Jennifer, you’re next.
SPEAKER 14 :
Hi, John.
SPEAKER 07 :
Hey, Jennifer.
SPEAKER 14 :
This… ballroom they’re building, 90,000 square feet. That’s like 100 yards by 100 yards.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s right.
SPEAKER 14 :
Is that about the total area of the grassy area of the football stadium?
SPEAKER 07 :
Probably close to the grassy area. Yeah, might even be a little bit larger than that. I don’t know what the width of, you know, a football field is 100 by 50. I don’t know exactly what the ballroom measurements are. I have not looked that up.
SPEAKER 14 :
So it’d be twice the size of a playing field for football.
SPEAKER 07 :
If it’s 100 by 100, yes.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah. You know, if you look at the prices, what the cost is going to be on this compared to the cost of the other renovations, a lot of those included underground buildings to build the White House, the second-story underground and a third-story underground building. I’m kind of wondering, this particular building, how many levels down are they going to be?
SPEAKER 07 :
Again, I have not seen any, and maybe because of the security side of it, you’re not seeing, but I haven’t seen any blueprints on anything as far as that goes, so I have no idea, Jennifer.
SPEAKER 14 :
That would be a real waste of space if they didn’t dig down three or four levels.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and I kind of agree with you, but honestly, that one, again, I have no idea. I’ve not seen anything published along those lines whatsoever. That’s a great question.
SPEAKER 14 :
The one thing I have wondered or thought that they really need there is something like a university lecture hall that will hold 1,500 people.
SPEAKER 07 :
to bring the press in everybody has uh well i would think you could use i think i mean i would think as i was saying earlier jennifer that this particular facility they’re building you it could be very multi-purpose when it’s all said and done and i i would hope is going to be in other words i want to see something happening in that thing uh not monthly i want to see something happening in that thing weekly oh yeah yeah and
SPEAKER 14 :
If it’s big enough and has the facility, people from the Pentagon could move over there to do press conferences. It would just work out really well.
SPEAKER 07 :
And I’ve got to double-check. It’s 90,000 square feet. So before somebody corrects me on my math, depending upon – again, I don’t know what the dimensions actually are, but 100 yards would be 300 feet. So if it’s 300 by – it’ll be bigger than 30 feet wide. So it’s – they’re comparing it to a – football field but that’s hard to do because in a football field you would have let me do the math here really quick that would be 150 times 300 a football field is I’m not doing that right yeah football fields 45,000 square feet so it’s twice the size of a football field right yeah hundred yards by a hundred yards double
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Which, you know, and you’ve heard me say, Jennifer, good. I’m glad. I mean, it keeps us from having to go out as taxpayers and rent something else. We’ll have one of the largest facilities. And by the way, we should have.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah. Well, many times I’ve thought that, you know, they’ve had to do so much to that building and other buildings in Washington. Maybe it’s time to build a new Capitol, maybe in Nevada or Washington. take some of eastern Colorado and western Kansas and start from scratch and build an entire new capital.
SPEAKER 07 :
Wouldn’t hurt my feelings, but yeah, that’s not going to happen.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’d love that. And I think partially because of the way things were district out, the biggest thing we have to be careful of along those lines, Jennifer, is not allowing the Democrats to have another state out of D.C. because right now it’s independent of all of that on purpose and needs to stay that way. They want two senators coming out of there, of course.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah. By the way, by the time this thing is finished, Donald Trump will probably be out of office.
SPEAKER 07 :
Possibly, although if you know Trump, I’ll bet you they get that thing rolling along pretty quickly. A project that big is probably a 12 to 18 month minimum project, depending upon, I mean, right now, the plus side they have, no red tape, Jennifer. And if you don’t have any red tape, you can build pretty quickly. So bottom line, I’ll bet that thing operates in the next 18 months.
SPEAKER 14 :
So it’ll probably be ready for roughing in, but not, you know, not finished.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, and again, you could be right. Although, again, the one advantage they have that you and I don’t, you don’t have to wait for anybody. There isn’t a lot of, you know, you know, you got to get this approval from this guy and you got to grease the palms of that guy. And this inspector has to have I mean, you don’t have any of that, Jennifer. That stuff all goes away.
SPEAKER 14 :
If they’re building deep levels underground.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’ll be the question. And you are right about that. If they’re going deep, yeah, no, it’s not going to happen that quickly. And that’s the one thing I don’t have an answer to. If somebody finds out, you, anybody, and you want to call in and let me know, I’d be happy to know.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, take care.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, thank you, Jennifer. Great points, by the way. I appreciate that very much. Great thoughts. We’ll be back here in just one moment. And up next, it’s Golden Eagle Financial. Roof Savers of Colorado, make sure you’re dialed in when it comes to your roof this winter. You can extend the life of your current roof substantially, by the way. Warranty to go along with that will rejuvenate your current roof. 303-710-6916. Gil, what was your experience like working with RoofMax?
SPEAKER 03 :
Very good. With Dave Hart, we right away connected. You know, he was a very nice person to talk to, very accommodating. He even came over to my location when I asked him that I couldn’t go to him. He came to me and he walked the roof and he said, Gary, there’s just a couple of minor repairs needed. A few shingles needed to be replaced. And that was the start of our, you know, my conversation to go with him. I said, well, give me a bid and we’ll go from there.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s great to hear. And how long did the process take from your first call to the final treatment?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, it was an excellent experience. They were very accommodating with my time. Dave was very willing to meet my needs. and so gave me an idea of what it would take to repair it. It wasn’t very much, and so I think it was maybe he came over one day and then maybe two days afterwards and got it all done, all in one day. It was awesome.
SPEAKER 05 :

SPEAKER 06 :
Putting reason into your afternoon drive, this is John Rush.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. My son Richard Rush joining us now. And throwback uniforms is one thing I was going to throw in really quick because John from Cheyenne was asking about that. And I looked up that the rules are, is it mandatory or can they just do it up to four times a year? What’s the scoop there, Richard?
SPEAKER 12 :
Is it four or three? Is it four?
SPEAKER 07 :
I just looked up AI and it said four.
SPEAKER 12 :
I can’t trust AI these days.
SPEAKER 07 :
I know.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, I know the Broncos are doing it three times. So they’re doing it. They obviously did it last week. I think they’re doing it this, not this week, but the next week against the Raiders. And then I think they’re doing it week 18 against the Chargers at home, if I’m not mistaken.
SPEAKER 07 :
AI says it increased this year to four. So year three is probably right for previous seasons. It’s now four. And the way I told it to John is my thought process is the reason they do that is it’s merchandising. They sell more crap by doing that.
SPEAKER 12 :
They do sell more, and my guess is it’s alternate uniforms that they let them do, because keep in mind the Broncos also have that white uniform that they came out with last year that they wore one time. And so I think the reason that they’re doing the throwbacks three times is my guess is they’re probably going to do the all whites at some point in time this year.
SPEAKER 07 :
Gotcha. Somebody just said it’s snowing west of Cheyenne on I-82. For those of you that are up in that area, be careful. There is some snow up that way right now, so… All right, let’s talk about the Broncos. They actually had a really good game yesterday.
SPEAKER 12 :
They did. We talked about this a little bit on Friday. The Broncos tend to play to their competition, and my concern was that they would play up or down in both, up or down, right? Their offense would elevate, but their defense would kind of give up some points, and honestly, their defense played really well. The offense, literally, except for the first drive, Dad, um and you know except for a few drops you know here and there the offense played really well in my opinion it was overall one of the better performances of the sean payton era i mean especially anytime you can put 44 points on the old cowboys it makes it feel a little bit good you know no offense to jira and uh the old the old cowboys there but but that’s just my thought so yeah they played well dad again offense played well defense played fantastic They really played as a unit for about the first time this year, maybe, except for the Cincinnati game. But I actually think the Dallas, I think the Cowboys may compete for a playoff spot later in the year, depending on if they can give the defense any help. And obviously, folks, what I mean there is there was no D from Dallas on Sunday. I mean, that thing, Dad, it was, I mean, you and I probably could be throwing touchdown passes against those guys.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I didn’t watch the entire game, was driving for a little bit of it, and then got home, started watching it. And, yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, you didn’t have to watch a lot of it to realize how dominant it was when it was all said and done. I mean, the reality is, to your point, there wasn’t any defense at all.
SPEAKER 12 :
No defense. They just played really, really well. Yeah, they did. I mean, honestly, it was one of those games where you can kind of just get a feel for a game, right? And that was just one of those games where you kind of just felt like when the Broncos were on offense, they were pressing the old Staples easy button. You know, they were just saying, oh, this, you know, do we want to run at this drive? Do we want to throw at this drive? Do we want to do a mix? Do we want to, you know, and the one thing I like, Dad, is to Sean Payton’s credit, He didn’t do a lot of frills, right? He didn’t go to trick plays. He didn’t do anything exotic. He didn’t do anything crazy. He kind of just did what they should do on a daily, on a game-by-game basis. And I liked that. I liked how they did that. I thought they came together really well. And, yeah, overall, Dad, at least one of the teams, I feel like it was a couple weeks ago we were talking about all of the football teams in our area did well, but at least one of them did well this weekend, and they kind of showed out, and they have another tough task this next weekend.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, so talk to us about the other team that didn’t do so well.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, well, for John up there in Wyoming, Wyoming knocked CSU on the border war. CSU just fired their coach last week. They beat them. I think it was 28-0 if I’m not mistaken. But, yeah, CU, Dad, in one of the worst halves of football I have ever witnessed in my life. Yeah, it was terrible. And, folks, these eyeballs have seen CU lose to Texas. 70-3 in the Big 12 championship game one year. I mean, I have seen some very, very poor games, especially the likes of CU, Dad. But there was just something about that first half that was just awful. And I told you this earlier. I like Deion. I like Coach Prime. I like what he brings to CU, just to everything, to the league, to everything. he sometimes is too loyal, and my thoughts are they need to change the quarterback, and granted, he had a good game a couple weeks ago right before the bye against Iowa State, and they need to change the offensive coordinator, and that guy has been loyal to Pat Shermer darn near since the day that he hired him, Dad, and because we sort of had Pat Shermer on the Broncos side of things for a few years, and we kind of heard it, and I’m not saying that Pat Shermer doesn’t know football, but I just don’t know if he’s the most up-to-date person to be running an offense, especially an offense like CU’s where you’ve got to be a little bit more fast-paced. Salter, I don’t know if he doesn’t see the future. I just don’t know, Dad. But you have a lot of weapons. You have some good offensive line play. But, man, it was poorly executed, Dad. And after a bye week… you would expect more, right? You would expect that your coaches would have your kids prepared, even if you gave the kids the week off, which it sounds like they did, that they would still come back with a really good game plan. All right, guys, we’re going to attack them with these plays. We’re going to do this. And don’t get me wrong, I think Utah is a good team.
SPEAKER 07 :
Not that good.
SPEAKER 12 :
They’re not that good. It was 43-0 in the first half.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. No, they’re not that good.
SPEAKER 12 :
They had minus 18 yards of offense in the first half. Minus 18.
SPEAKER 07 :
I know.
SPEAKER 12 :
They would have been better to quarterback sneak for every single possession, and they would have had more yards than they had. And so, again, I’m not saying Deion should be fired. Some of your listeners are going to say, well, you guys have been calling saying Deion’s been great. And he has been great. And this is one game, and I’m not going to say that this is going to be an endemic or anything. It’s going to be a problem or anything like that. But even himself, he said it after the game, Dad. He said a lot of these players have come to be, well, basically they’ve come to make their money, look good and make money, essentially. And he said, well, in order to do that, you’ve got to show up to play. And a lot of those kids didn’t show up to play. And I would argue that some of the coaches didn’t show up to play.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, that’s another conversation, yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
that’s another conversation and so i just it was really concerning and they got to win three of their last four to be become eligible i have no confidence confidence that can that that is going to happen but honestly that at the end of the day i just want to see a little bit more of a competitive team yeah the rest of the season like that’s what i’m hoping for like just give me yep you know, some close games, some of what you had earlier in the year. Again, I don’t even need you to win every single game. I just need you to be competitive and to show some fight and show some heart. And I just didn’t see it. I don’t even know how much of the game you watched. That’s a whole other conversation. You know, these 8.30 starts are killing.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, it’s ridiculous. I hate that. And, by the way, I don’t think that helps the teams out either. In this case, it helped one team, didn’t help the other. And I can tell you right now, it does not help CU. We have played awful in these late games.
SPEAKER 12 :
Last year we did a little bit better with Shador there, but this year every league, I think, well, I can’t remember what Wyoming was, but you know what’s really concerning about CU, Dad? So Georgia Tech, first game of the year, right? Game was actually pretty close until the very last drive. Georgia Tech went down and won it. Georgia Tech is undefeated right now. They are a top 10 ranked team in the country, and you had them, basically you probably should have won that game because you had them turn the ball over three times to start the game. Additionally, you played BYU. You played them really tough, right, for most of the game. Yeah, it was one possession game for most of the game, but they ended up coming out on top. Yeah, but again, they are a top 10 ranked team in the country. You don’t play two top 10 ranked teams. very tightly without there being some talent and some ability on coaches and on the player side of things, right?
SPEAKER 08 :
Right.
SPEAKER 12 :
But something has gone amiss. Something’s off, whatever you want to say, and it’s just disappointing and frustrating because, again, you look at it, I’ll say, you look at the Broncos, and like Sean Payton or not, I was critical of his play calling last week. Ultimately, though, that guy knows how to build a team. He knows how to build an organization. He knows how to put his players in a position to succeed. One of Deion’s biggest, well, not caveats, but basically one of his biggest negatives, and that’s the only way I know how to describe it, is he’s been really well-known to be able to bring in players, bring in high players, High name, big name coaches, all those sorts of things. But at the end of the day, I question his ability to assemble the right team. Right from top to bottom. Are you putting the right kids in the right spot? Do you have the right coordinators in the right position? Whatever it might be. And he has every time to prove me wrong. And he may very well prove me wrong. I just am a little bit skeptical from what I’ve seen, especially the past few weeks. to say that I truly believe that. And it’s frustrating, again, because I think that the same stuff that we saw the past few years with Shador and Travis and some other guys, I think can be carried on into future years. We all kind of knew this was going to be a rebuilding year, and it’s just unfortunate because I think that some of these games were winnable or should have at least been closer and unfortunately just hasn’t worked out so far.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, unfortunately. Okay, before I let you go, one last thing. The whole gambling thing that came out last week, we talked off air, but really quick, throw your thoughts in on that. We’ve got a few minutes here.
SPEAKER 12 :
So I think that, well, number one, Chauncey, I love him as a CU guy, love him as a Colorado kid. But that dude just got mixed up in the wrong thing, Dad, with the wrong people. And, you know, there’s speculation now that he was even part of the illegal, the sports side of it, not even just the poker side. But that’s a different conversation. My thoughts are this, Dad. There’s a lot of people saying that, you know, states should ban some of these prop bets. And for folks that don’t know really quick, a prop bet is if I think that Bo Nix is going to throw for two touchdowns, or two plus touchdowns in a game, I can bet that individual stat, right? It’s called a prop bet. You’re betting individual things that can happen in a game. And in some cases, players have controls over that, right? Maybe if a guy doesn’t play as long as he should, Dad, maybe he gets hurt. And that’s really what happened in the NBA is a guy basically pulled himself out early. He had guys bet the unders, right? So if he was supposed to get 20 points for the game, they would bet the under, and he pulls himself out after nine minutes and doesn’t end up scoring it. I think that legalized gambling… which again, not saying that more regulation is better folks, but in this case by the government regulating stuff the way they have that. And it came out that basically the sports books flagged this guy’s activity and not necessarily this guy’s, but other people’s activity around him as being skeptical. I was like, okay, we should probably look at, take a look at this. And you and I talked about it. It’s really hard to beat the computer. It’s really difficult to beat what all these systems that they have in place. So I actually think that, legalized gambling, helped catch this situation, and it remains to be seen how deep this goes because I don’t know if they’ve actually gotten everyone, to be honest with you.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, I think more will be coming out on that. We may be talking about this in some weeks ahead. I guess we will see. But, okay, we’ll stop there. We’ll come right back. We’ve got a car review to do. SPEAKER 07 :
And we are back. Rush to Reason. And this part of it, we actually do drive radio as well because we do car reviews on a weekly basis. And this is that time where we do it. Richard, talk to us about a vehicle that you’re actually still a tail end of right now for another day. But talk to us about the car you’re driving right now.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, Dad, so we’ve got a 2025 Toyota 4Runner, and this is, again, we reviewed it. Actually, we reviewed a similar version of this vehicle a few weeks ago, Dad. I think that one was the TRD. Actually, that was the limited model, which actually had the third row. This one is the Trail Hunter, and it doesn’t have the third row, but it’s got a lot of the aftermarket accessories that you would want on this vehicle, Dad, right? I’m not going to go through the litany, but I’ll just say this. You can buy this vehicle, Dad. straight from the lot and drive it pretty much wherever you want to go even here in colorado whatever you want to do you have the capability and the flexibility to do that this vehicle again we’ll just kind of go over some of the basics it starts out about 43 000 the trail hunter the one that we drove is kind of the top of the line about 69 000 for a forerunner but again folks This is something where you can buy it, and you don’t really have to do a whole lot to it. You can literally just buy it, and you keep going, and you don’t have to worry about it. You don’t have to touch it. This has got the I-Force Max engine in it, Dad, which, for those that know Toyota, is their hybrid powertrain turbocharged. I think it’s a turbocharged four-cylinder, if I’m not mistaken. It runs ridiculously well at our altitude. I’ll just say it. This car gets up and goes, and for those of you that know 4Runners of old, that was one of our biggest complaints, and it always has been one of our biggest complaints. They just tended to not run very well. They’ve changed that. This thing runs phenomenal. It’s kind of cool. The kids like it. This piece, again, because it’s a trail hunter, has the snorkel that comes out, right, so you can go through that, you know, three foot of water or two foot of water or whatever it is, and the engine can still breathe and can still do the things that you want to do. and so you can hear the turbo kind of you know spool up and then spit out and i mean it’s just kind of some fun stuff there outside of that dad it’s really nice on the interior again if you’ve seen one of these vehicles folks you’ve seen most of them they don’t do a whole lot of changes on there this has got the jbl speaker system and you can pull out the speaker and kind of have it as a bluetooth option which is really really great As far as it’s got some storage underneath the third row there. It’s got a roof rack on top of it. It’s got some aftermarket accessories. My biggest negative for this car, Dad, is more of just functionality for a family with children and stuff. Is that back row just doesn’t have a whole lot of space. I’m not even talking the third row, right? I’m talking the second row. You know my kiddos. One of them is pretty tall. One of them is kind of about average as far as their age group goes. And I’ve got a scoot to seat up for both of them, to be honest with you, in order for both of them.
SPEAKER 07 :
Meaning it’s probably not more. There’ll be people buying this that convince the wife that it’s the family vehicle and let’s go buy this vehicle and off we go. But probably more of somebody that would be looking to store gear and things like that in the back and not necessarily people is what you’re saying.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, that’s what I would say. I mean, I do know some people that have this car, and a lot of families have this car, and they actually really enjoy it, right? They enjoy driving, and they just make do, because they like the 4Runner, and they like what it is. And don’t get me wrong, Dad, there’s a lot of I’m just going to call it forerunner purists out there that they love or Toyota purists, I should say. And for good reason, folks, you see for we’ve got several people that we know, one of them got 295,000 miles on a 2007. You’re right. And it’s still running like a dream. I mean, they just put a little bit of work into it and it keeps going.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right.
SPEAKER 12 :
That is what they’re they’re known for. And so some people swear by that, dad. I just, for me, if I, again, as a family, it was hard to, you know, kind of put more than two kids in the back seat. And even then, if you’ve got a car seat, that’s rear facing, maybe a newborn, maybe one of those bigger booster seats that some of you have seen out there. I just would struggle putting them in that on a regular basis. I would just get frustrated because it’s always going to be ramming into the seat in front of you, whatever it might be outside of that, dad.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, one last thing, and I know this is a – I get it. This is a particular vehicle where it’s got Old Man Emu suspension, and it’s got a lot of extra gear, racks, and so on. And I get that, and I understand all of that stuff costs money, and I’m not trying to negate that. I did that in my own businesses for years. So I understand that full well, Richard, as you know. But here comes the but for all of you listening. Toyota, I know you’re going to listen as well. Here’s my but. You could go buy a full-sized vehicle for the same price as this. I get it. The capability and what you’re getting in the 4Runner and all that, I fully understand, and it’s probably really unique in that particular way, but it’s $70,000, Richard.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, I was going to say there’s some larger SUVs, right, and then we won’t name them, but that you can go out and buy, Dad, for a little bit more money and you have a lot more room, right, you know, for a family. And you could argue in some cases maybe not quite as capable, right, you know, in the most purest sense of the word, but still very capable nonetheless, right?
SPEAKER 08 :
Right.
SPEAKER 12 :
And I’m with you, and I was just going to say that is the price point on it for me is is a little bit steep however some of you may look at it and say richard john it’s a toyota i mean love it you know that’s a fair price for a car you know i’m gonna i’m gonna never own it i’m not gonna buy a car for 20 years well then in that case you know that it may work for them but that was just one of the negatives for those of you listening you know i’m not exaggerating this vehicle the base price of a trail hunter forerunner
SPEAKER 07 :
And TRD Pro is the same, so they’re very similar as far as that goes, $67,400. So by the time you get this thing equipped out, you’re well over $70,000.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, and I will say this. One thing that Toyota’s done nicely, Dad, and because I’ve got the window stickers here in front of me, this car, because they basically put the options and stuff on it, there’s not a whole lot of customization that needs to be done.
SPEAKER 08 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 12 :
Now, you can add some different accessories and some things like that, but I don’t think you’d be tipping the scales on this. You know, mid-70s are there.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, you’re going to be right at that probably 70k mark when you’re done.
SPEAKER 12 :
absolutely it is so again is that something that would deter you you have to be the judge it’s just something that we obviously want to make note of because it matters right it matters to a lot of people and so outside of that that love the car driving it it’s kind of got it’s got this kind of greenish bluish color that honestly in the right light looks really really cool um and you kind of saw it there the looks of it the trail hunter dad with the i think it’s got toyota tires on if i’m not mistaken Let me see here. Yep, Toyota tires on it. Just a good-looking car. They’ve done a phenomenal job. Not sure on some of those other things, but you know what? That’s for you to judge. And so if you do that, folks, head to your local Toyota dealer. I think they have some of these on lots now. And when you do that, let them know that John and Richard Rush from Drive Radio and Rush to Reason sent you.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, with that, Richard, I will let you go. And again, yeah, not knocking that car by any means. It’s just you need to know what you’re getting into. Of course, you’d figure that out as you go out and look for this vehicle and hunt for it. But that’s something that we want to mention in a review as to the price of the vehicle because it will affect a lot of people and what their decisions are. Oh, I guess Richard’s gone. All right, we’ll let Richard go. And with that, let’s do this. We’ll take our break. We’ll come right back. Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning. Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, that’s it for this hour. And I’m going to talk a little bit when we come back about the government shutdown. And I had a few things I was going to cover in the first hour we didn’t get to, which we got to talking about the ballroom and all that and had lots of callers. And that’s great. That’s what I enjoy doing. And then Jared Whitley is going to join us at 530. And he had an opinion piece here in the Colorado Sun lately talking about Denver voters needing to ditch voting. The flavored nicotine ban. Now, I will just say straight up, I have no dog in the fight on that. I’m not a user of. I don’t know that I fully even understand all of the e-cigs and all of that. That’s about as foreign to me as certain things that we could get into. Definitely not in my wheelhouse. So we’ll talk to Jared about that at 530 as well. So anyways, we’ll be right back, guys. Don’t go anywhere. Hour number two is next. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 1 :
Thank you.
SPEAKER 16 :
I’m a rich guy
