(Worthy News) – Kazakhstan has officially joined the Abraham Accords, becoming the first country to do so during U.S. President Donald Trump’s second term, the White House confirmed Thursday evening.
“I just held a great call between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “Kazakhstan is the first country of my second term to join the Abraham Accords — the first of many. This is a major step forward in building bridges across the world.”
Trump added that a formal signing ceremony will take place soon, promising “many more countries” are lining up to embrace peace through the accords. “So much more to come in uniting countries for stability and growth — real progress, real results,” he said.
The announcement came as Trump hosted a summit at the White House with the leaders of five Central Asian nations, including Kazakhstan. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance both hailed the decision as proof that the Abraham Accords remain a cornerstone of U.S. foreign policy.
“The momentum of the Abraham Accords is alive and well in the second administration,” Vance said. “It’s not just going to be Kazakhstan — other countries will follow in the months ahead.”
Though largely symbolic — as Kazakhstan and Israel have maintained full diplomatic ties since 1992 — officials said the move renews the accords’ energy following recent regional upheavals. Kazakhstan’s government called its accession “a natural and logical continuation of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy course grounded in dialogue, mutual respect, and regional stability.”
Secretary Rubio emphasized that the accords now extend beyond the Middle East, building bridges between Jewish and Muslim-majority nations worldwide. “The strength of this partnership is that it creates practical cooperation — in energy, technology, and development — and shows that peace and partnership are possible,” he said.
The Abraham Accords were first brokered by Trump in 2020, normalizing relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco. Trump and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff have said they are now working to expand membership to additional Arab and Muslim countries, with Saudi Arabia, Syria, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan among those under discussion.
Jewish and pro-Israel organizations applauded the development. AIPAC praised Trump for “further widening the circle of peace and reconciliation,” while the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations said Kazakhstan’s entry “deepens ties between Israel and the broader Muslim world.”
Rabbi Marc Schneier, who has met President Tokayev several times in Astana, said the move highlights Kazakhstan’s longstanding commitment to religious tolerance. “Kazakhstan is publicly demonstrating support for peace and coexistence,” Schneier said. “It is time others get on the peace train before history leaves them behind.”
Kazakhstan, a Muslim-majority nation of 20 million, supplies over a quarter of Israel’s oil imports and has been viewed as a regional model of interfaith cooperation. Its chief rabbi, Yeshaya Cohen, called the announcement “a moment of great joy but not surprise,” saying, “Kazakhstan has always been a model of peace and tolerance.”
Trump ended his announcement with a characteristic flourish: “Blessed are the peacemakers!”
