You know, in all the years I’ve wanted to be a talk show host, I’m glad I didn’t want to be a banker. Because if I wanted to be a banker, I’d work 9 to 5 Monday through Friday. Nothing wrong with being a banker. But, boy, we don’t keep bankers’ hours. And the way the world unfolded Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday, let me go through the list. Trump meets Mom Donnie in the Oval Office, and you’d have thought they were just a couple of bros hanging out over a beer down at the pub. I mean, it was a love fest. And I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I guess it’s good. I figured it was going to go off the rails. It didn’t. I thought it was going to be a disaster. It wasn’t. I thought one of them would insult the other one. And I really envisioned Trump kicking him out of the Oval Office. I figured at some point Trump will ask him to leave. That’s how bad I thought it was going to get. And it couldn’t have been more opposite. Mark Davis said, no, it’ll be fine. And, I mean, it was so pleasant that even when reporters asked Mamdani in the Oval Office, did you call Trump a fascist or do you take back calling Trump a fascist? And Mamdani is giving one of his patented plastic non-answer answers. Trump leans over, pats him on the arm and said, that’s okay. You can tell him you have. I don’t care. And he laughed. I mean, I’m watching this thinking, am I having a stroke here? Here is the moment after the Oval Office meeting where Mamdani is asked by reporters to Do you take back calling the President of the United States a fascist?

I asked about your comment calling the President a fascist. And your answer was, when President Trump and I have been clear about our positions and our views, are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?
SPEAKER 01 :
I’ve spoken about… That’s okay, you can just say yes. Okay. It’s easier. It’s easier than explaining it.
SPEAKER 08 :
And he pats him on the shoulder. It’s like, it’s okay. It’s easy. Now, I’ve spoken to friends who’ve had two wildly different reactions to the Trump-Mamdani meeting in the Oval Office. And the only friends I care about are you. 1-800-655-MIKE. 800-655-6453. Because, I don’t know, I mean, I’m kind of lost on this. I’m, on the one hand… I expected it to go badly. On the other hand, I kind of like that it didn’t. There’s a part of me that says, if you really are serious about lowering the temperature, the political rhetoric and the temperature in America, well, this was a giant step in that direction, was it not? If you really mean it, and let’s face it, don’t we all kind of mean it? I know the keyboard warriors don’t mean it. I know a lot of the red meat, sharp-elbowed hosts don’t mean it. But I think normal people say, can we all just cool it a little bit? Can we just have a little bit of civility to one another? Can it just go a little bit easier in our lives rather than this constant tension and angst and yelling and name-calling and doxing and threats and violence? Can we just ramp down the political temperature a few degrees? If you believe that, then the Trump-Mamdani meeting was a home run. If you don’t really believe it, you’re probably annoyed at it. Because, like me, you thought it was going to be very contentious. You thought the meeting… And look, here’s Mom Donnie. Afterwards, he made the rounds on the Sunday morning talk shows. Mom Donnie is becoming the face of the Democrat Party, as we predicted. He hasn’t even been sworn in yet. He’s not even mayor yet. January, he gets inaugurated, I guess. Is the mayor inaugurated? I suppose he is, on January 1st. But he’s already everywhere. And look… We thought it would be good for Republicans for him to be the face of the Republican Party. So let’s look at the flip side of this meeting, this positive, productive meeting a little bit. Maybe this is what Democrats are going to want, somebody who’s willing to stand up to Trump but can have a meeting with him and have a chummy meeting with him and have a meeting that goes well. I mean, here’s Mom Donnie himself on Meet the Press.

I was looking forward to having the meeting with the president to speak about the needs of the eight and a half million people who call the same city we love home. And to speak frankly about the affordability crisis that is pushing so many of them out of those five boroughs. And I found in the meeting that I had with the president a productive one and a meeting that came back again and again to the central themes of the campaign that we ran. The cost of housing, cost of childcare, the cost of groceries, the cost of utilities. And it showed that this is an opportunity to now start to deliver so that people can do more than just aspire to struggle in New York City, but actually to be able to live there.

So that’s the communist talking about the fascist. That doesn’t sound like a communist talking about a fascist to me. That talks like an experienced politician talking about a political rival that he seeks common ground with. And let’s face it, a whole bunch of America didn’t think that was even possible. Here was Bill Maher on his show on HBO over the weekend commenting on the meeting between President Trump and the incoming mayor, Zoran Mamdani.

It is amazing. I mean, I don’t want to tip my thing at the end of the show, but this is exactly what I’m going to be talking about. He met him in person, Mandami, and great meeting. I mean, the night before, just like the night before I went there, he said, you know, he’s a communist. Trump said, he’s a great guy, great meeting. He said, you know, they asked him, you know, what about the communist things? Well, you know, he said, maybe he’ll change. My views have changed. Trump said, I’d love to live in New York under this guy. He might be a great mayor. See, that’s what it is. You’ve got to talk to people and negotiate. I mean, they’re New Yorkers, you know. They negotiated. Mondami… They each got something they wanted. Mondami wanted Trump’s help on affordability issues, yes, and Trump wanted a guarantee that he can still stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone. Oh, I did. Always with love.

That’s actually pretty funny. That’s actually comical. But to his point, did you notice the way the Bill Maher audience clapped? You’ve got to talk to people. You’ve got to negotiate. You’ve got to work with people. And that’s what Trump and Mom Donnie did. And make no mistake, the rabid, lunatic… base of Zoran Mamdani was not happy with this meeting at all. They don’t want him going into the lion’s den and playing nice. So did it help Trump or did it hurt Trump? Did it help the Republican Party or did it hurt the Republican Party? Are you with me? And let me, you know, I’ll quote myself. I know it’s obnoxious to do that. I always hate it when I see another host say, oh, here’s what I wrote in the New York Times today. But I will say this, and I think the way I put it makes sense. Here’s my post on X. Where, by the way, did I get a ton of activity over the weekend between Marjorie Taylor Greene and the birthday party with Joyce and the Oval Office meeting? I had one post that got like nearly 30,000 views. That’s pretty good for old Gallagher. It’s pretty good. So follow me at Gallagher’s show on X because I love that platform and I go there. Mike, in the history of the world, we know one thing is certain. Socialism fails. But every time it fails, we say the same thing. Well, it was because of other forces. Well, we never tried it this way. What did Trump just do? It was master class. I’m a nice guy. I’m going to help you. Because when Mondami fails spectacularly, which I think can come as early as next summer. Yep. Hey, who are you going to blame? Trump? He was there for you. He showed his hand. He said, yeah, I’ll help you. We’ll make it great. And he’s going to fail so spectacularly that he’ll have nobody to blame. Everyone’s going to be like, well, Trump offered him help. He was a nice guy. He once again is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

Well, and to your point, John, you make a great point about the criticism of Trump is that he’s this tyrannical dictator. He’s this monster who doesn’t get along with people, and all he does is attack, attack, attack. Ultimately, it was a humanizing moment for Trump because for people who truly loathe him, they had to be confused. This is repetitive, I’m sorry, but there’s a string of things after this. You know the old saying, keep your friends close and your enemies closer? Yep. If you’re not talking, you’re involved in covert operations or covert wars, which lead to bombings and wars, which lead to political people deciding they need to change the rules of engagement on the military when we might be winning a particular war. It ends up in an impasse or a stalemate. And so then the State Department can come in with their philosophy of decades upon decades of wars only end through negotiations. And unfortunately, We haven’t learned the lesson that you can only negotiate from a position of higher strength.

But you’ve got to negotiate, though. You’re so right. You’ve got to talk. You’ve got to be able to have a dialogue. You know how many friends I’ve lost because I voted, because I’m a Republican, because I’m a Trump voter? I mean, not a lot, but there’s enough that it gets your attention. But as David Marcus writes over at Fox News, perhaps as we enter… The season of Advent next week, this is exactly what Americans needed to see and hear. Two men who could not be more polar opposites in the political imagination of the nation, nonetheless treating each other with dignity and respect. And somewhere, he writes, I could almost sense First Lady Melania mirroring so many mothers and grandmothers this Turkey Day, whispering, thank God, when the fireworks never started and the family made nice all the way through the pumpkin pie. Again, I know the keyboard warriors don’t like it. I know the bomb throwers don’t like it. I know the flamethrowers are not liking it at all. I get all that. But ultimately, aren’t normal Americans whispering, thank God, Trump and Mamdani had a good meeting in the Oval Office? It may not hold, it may not last, but gosh, it’s a good step. How about Marjorie Taylor Greene resigning from Congress? Now, you know the history that led up to this. The congresswoman from Georgia, one of Trump’s biggest, biggest supporters. She is MAGA through and through, it has been said. And then suddenly they butted heads. She was all about the Epstein files. She questioned the mass deportation policy to some extent. She started criticizing some of the Trump policies. Trump didn’t like that. He criticized her, said they’re going to primary her. Before you know it, here we are, Marjorie Taylor Greene, effective early January, is stepping down as a congresswoman. Hi, everyone. I’ve always represented the common American man and woman as a member of the House of Representatives, which is why I’ve always been despised in Washington, D.C., and just never fit in. Americans are used by the political-industrial complex of both political parties, election cycle after election cycle, in order to elect whichever side can convince Americans to hate the other side more. And the results are always the same. No matter which way the political pendulum swings, Republican or Democrat, nothing ever gets better for the common American man or woman. The debt goes higher. Corporate and global interests remain Washington’s sweethearts. American jobs continue to be replaced, whether it’s by illegal labor or legal labor by visas or just shipped overseas. Small businesses continue to be swallowed by big corporations. Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars always fund foreign wars, foreign aid, and foreign interest. And the spending power of the dollar continues to decline. The average American family can no longer survive on a single breadwinner’s income, as both parents have to work in order to simply survive. And today, many in my children’s generation feel hopeless for their future and don’t think they will ever realize the American dream. And that breaks my heart. I ran for Congress in 2020 and have fought every single day believing that Make America Great Again meant America first. I have one of the most conservative voting records in Congress defending the First Amendment, Second Amendment, unborn babies because I believe God creates life at conception, and I love to fight for the little guy. Strong, safe borders, I have fought hard for that. I fought against COVID tyrannical insanity and mandated mass vaccinations, and I’ve never voted to fund foreign wars with your hard-earned tax dollars. However, with almost one year into our majority, The legislature has been mostly sidelined. We endured an eight-week shutdown, wrongly, resulting in the House not working for the entire time. And we are entering campaign season, which means all courage leaves and only safe campaign re-election mode is turned on in the House of Representatives. During the longest shutdown in our nation’s history, I raged against my own speaker and my own party for refusing to proactively work diligently to pass the plan to save Americans’ health care and protect Americans from outrageous, overpriced, and unaffordable health insurance policies. The House should have been in session working every day to fix this disaster. But instead, America was force-fed disgusting political drama once again from both sides of the aisle on television every single day. My bills, which reflect many of President Trump’s executive orders, like calling for a new census counting Americans only to draw new districts, making English the official language of the U.S., making it a felony to medically trans a minor, and other bills like eliminating capital gains taxes on the sale of your primary home and eliminating H-1B visas. Just sit. They all sit collecting dust. That’s how it is for most members of Congress’ bills. The speaker never brings them to the floor for a vote. Many common Americans are no longer easily convinced by paid political propaganda spokespersons and consultants on TV and paid shills on social media obediently serving with cult-like conviction to force others to swallow the political party talking points. Because they know how much credit card debt they have. They know how much their bills have gone up over the past five years. They actually do their own grocery shopping and no food costs too much. Their rent has increasingly gone up and up. They have been outbid by corporate asset managers too many times when they put in an offer to buy a house. They have been laid off after being forced to train their visa-holding replacement. The college degree they were told to earn only left them in debt with no big six-figure salary. They see more homeless people than ever on their own community streets. They can’t afford health insurance or practically any insurance, and they just aren’t stupid. These are the people I represent and love because that is who all of my family and friends are, common Americans. I’ve been blessed to represent the 14th District of Georgia for five years. The district is filled with some of the most wonderful, kind-hearted, God-fearing, patriotic, hardworking people you will ever meet. Good, regular, common Americans. I’ve worked hard to bring taxpayer dollars back home to help district needs. I impeached Biden’s secretary of homeland after watching my constituents die as he facilitated dangerous open border invasion into America. And I led the effort to defund hard left politically biased NPR and PBS and the corrupt USAID. And I did that as chair of the Doge subcommittee.

I agree with about 90 percent. of what she said. Two quick points, though. She will always be way more effective in office than she will be out of office. You’re not always going to get your way. And Trump’s a negotiator and he’s going to play the cards that he has. And his card was to put pressure on her the only way he can. And that, you know, threatening a primary against her.

Hey, I agree with everything that she says in her goodbye speech. However, I’m not sure if she’s being honest with us as to why she’s leaving or why she went after Trump. All of her top five items are in bold print on Trump’s things to do list. And then she goes after him about nuanced differences as to how to achieve them. Why wouldn’t she just stay on the Trump train and let it happen? If those are her passions, instead of getting in Trump’s ire, you know, if you make Trump mad, he’s going to attack you. That’s his modus operandi.

Hey, I agree with you. I’m very disappointed. I think it’s why we’re never going to get good senators and representation in our country because, uh, We’re not a one shoe size fits all. I think it’s very sad that somebody can’t disagree on some issues and then is ostracized and deemed non-mega. I think we all have, I think we’re losing. And I think this is a big mega hit because it can’t be like, We agree with everything, or if you don’t, then you’re out. I think it’s sad.
SPEAKER 08 :
I do, too. I’m really disappointed. I’m sad at the whole situation, to be honest with you. I really am. And I agree with the other caller. She gets a lot more done as an elected member of Congress than she does as some podcaster or some sort of consultant or some kind of Fox News or Newsmax or One America’s Voice commentator or whatever. I’m just very, very disappointed in the whole situation. I just don’t, you know, and it brings me back to the other thing that we haven’t covered yet, the Mamdani-Trump meeting on Friday in the Oval Office. I predicted to Mark Davis, and don’t worry, he’ll remind me of it when he gets back from vacation this week. On Monday, after Thanksgiving, I’m sure he’ll remind me that I thought that meeting was going to go off the rails. Instead, it was two people palling around, acting like there was nothing wrong anywhere. I mean, I’m overstating, but at one point, the reporters asked Mamdani in the Oval Office, do you stand by calling President Trump a fascist? Well, Mamdani started giving a, you know, word salad answer, and Trump said, it’s okay, it’s all right, go ahead. It’s easier than trying to explain it. And he gave him a playful, friendly pat on the arm. Even Mamdani yesterday, on the local, on the Sunday morning news rounds, says we had a very productive meeting. It went really well. Now, you know, the truth is, a lot of people were disappointed in how well it went. I’m not. Look, if we all agree with Marjorie Taylor Greene that you’ve got to turn down the temperature a little bit, then mean it. Turn down the temperature.

How are you doing today? Very good. Good. I think what she said was spot on. Sorry to see her go. I like her a lot. I think that most everything she’s said, she’s been through a lot. And I think she could possibly be more effective outside of Congress. She’ll totally take the brakes off if she’s ever had them on. And I think she could be a good influencer. And who knows, maybe she’ll end up being an advisor or just something. She sounds like she’s just so frustrated with the way it is. And one person like her can’t change it. From the inside to maybe more from the outside. You never know.

It’s got to be tough to realize that Trump is going to turn on you. You know, like if Trump decides, all right, I’m done. I’ve run out of patience. You know, it was almost like she was testing the waters. You know what I mean? She was like saying, okay, I’m going to push back here on the HB1 visas. I’m going to push back on this. And all of a sudden Trump said, all right, I’m done. And then, my gosh, what a lonely feeling that must be to have a guy like Trump, the most powerful guy in the world, say, I’m turning on you big time.

Absolutely. And she highlighted a lot of things that a lot of people have probably forgotten because they come in drips and drabs. I would send this 10-minute speech to everyone. I’ve got a lot of friends that are Jewish friends. And I’m afraid it just won’t resonate with them, although part of it would, because they think she’s anti-Israel, et cetera, et cetera. I don’t really know where she stands there.
