I like to think I am, or at least I’m turning into one.

Here’s what we’re going to do. My best movie of the year list, my top ten, those are going to be at the end of the hour.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean, save the best for last.
SPEAKER 15 :
I’ve got to save the best for last, folks. But this is really important. I’m going to give you some neat little surprises along the way. I’m also going to give you some things to avoid along the way because we are going into January through October. March is movie rental season, big time. You’re coming off the holidays. A lot of stuff gets played out and it goes into movie rentals where you can rent it at home for cheap. But even if you rent it at home for cheap, three, four, five bucks, whatever, you don’t want something that sucks. You don’t want something that takes you captive for two hours and wastes it.

Yeah, I would feel like I wasted my time and my money.

Exactly. So… What we’re going to start with, let’s start with the… I’m going to do the worst movies of the year. Let’s start with that, and then we’re going to get into pleasant surprises, biggest letdowns, best actress, best actor, most needlessly woke films. I always do that every year, too. Are you ready?
SPEAKER 04 :
I’m ready.
SPEAKER 15 :
Okay, let’s do the worst movies of the year. Yes! The biggest bombs. The ones that you absolutely don’t want to go near. And, folks, these are out there right now that you can rent them. I am warning you. I’m telling you what. I’m doing this for your own good. First of all, before we get to the top ten or bottom ten, dishonorable mentions.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, I love these.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes. Number one, inheritance. Just, I don’t even remember what it was. I only remembered I hated it. Now, this one I do remember. Tron Ares.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, yeah. That one was one of my big disappointments because I was really looking forward to Tron Ares.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, and that’ll be in my letdown section. I can already tell you that. Tron Ares, folks, was boring. It was boring. It was unfocused. It was lousy storytelling. It was all over the map. It was one of these where you’re sitting there saying, my gosh, there’s all these pretty things happening on screen, and I don’t care.
SPEAKER 04 :
Would you say it was a true sequel to Tron Legacy, or do you think it was just a movie produced to encourage people to go on the ride at Disney World?
SPEAKER 15 :
I think it was the latter. Yeah, I think it was Go on a Ride because Tron Legacy was a good movie. This was not. This was not. And that’s just it. A lot of times when people say, well, hey, the one before this was really good. Why not? I want to see how the story goes. They don’t even really pick up with the same story.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s unfortunate.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, it’s not good, folks. It is a waste of time. Continuing with my dishonorable mentions, Stitch Head. Now, this looks like a very charming little kid flick, one of these kid horror movie things, but it’s not really a horror movie, okay, at all. And it’s this little character called Stitch Head, and he is the caretaker for all the little monsters who live in this little castle run by this evil mad scientist, and he’s the good guy. Folks, it looks very charming. You’ll see ads for it. and you’ll see ads for it saying, hey, watch this. This is something your kids can watch. I’m telling you what, they’re going to be bored.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean, it just sounds like it would be overstimulating, but not interesting.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, yeah. Oh, there’s plenty of stimulation, just it doesn’t do anything. Okay, next one. Paddington in Peru. Oh, no. Yes, and this is a surprise because the first two Paddington movies were pretty good. They were good movies.
SPEAKER 04 :
How do you mess up Paddington Bear?
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, they do a great job at it. It’s awful, folks. It’s a bad movie. I mean, there are worse movies. They’re coming up. But it is not a fun movie. They took Paddington and butchered it. And it was really too bad.
SPEAKER 04 :
I know he’s a… You know what? No, he’s a bear. He’s an adorable character. That’s animal cruelty.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, it’s animal cruelty. Then there’s a horror movie called… Two horror movies here. The Monkey. And this is really stupid. It’s this toy monkey that when it’s around, it causes accidents.
SPEAKER 04 :
Is it one of those, like, clapper monkey things?
SPEAKER 15 :
Geez. No, it’s different. Well, maybe. I can’t even remember. I put this out of my mind. Oh, man. Yeah, I had to go see a guy who could help me and drive things out of my mind. No, I didn’t. But it was awful. It was awful. Wolfman is the other one. And this is a guy who, he becomes a wolfman. And he’s in his family, and there’s some really good actors in it. And you’re thinking, oh, this is going to be good. Oh, my gosh, was it slow. It was so slow. It was painful. It was torture. Just a terrible movie. Okay. Let’s get to our worst movies of the year.
SPEAKER 04 :
That was still just the dishonorable mentions.
SPEAKER 15 :
Those are the mentions. Here come the worst movies. Number 10. Smurfs with Rihanna.
SPEAKER 04 :
I expected that one.
SPEAKER 15 :
By the way, Rihanna’s very talented. I’ve always felt so. Not in this. It was awful. They were trying to do this hipster kind of thing. Hey, man, we’re cool. We’re modern. This is what we’re going to do with Smurfs. And they lost all the magic of Smurfs. There’s no magic.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a live-action Smurfs movie that’s been good.
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, well, this hit new lows. By the way, all the critics hated it, not just me. Next, Homestead. Now, this is going to upset some people. It’s a Christian movie from Angel Studios. It stars Bailey Chase and a guy I love, Neil McDonough.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes, I remember that one.
SPEAKER 15 :
Awful. Corey had this tied for her worst movie of the year with one you like, unfortunately. Sorry about that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Unfortunately, I know about it, yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, but she, my wife, despised this movie with such a passion. Why? Because it depicts homeschoolers in the worst possible light. This has a romance between two teenagers, boy, girl. That is the most clumsy, awkwardly done, worst romance. It was almost like the two were sitting there going, line, line. Yes, here is my line. I will say this. It’s terrible. Homestead was painful. Next, number eight. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. Now, the first one was a hit.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, it was. That gained massive popularity.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, Five Nights at Freddy’s was very fresh. It was a fun, it was a horror movie for younger people for the most part, but it was well done. And the second one is awful. They lost all the magic. They went off in directions you don’t want to go. It is boring.
SPEAKER 04 :
I’m curious about how you think the line deliveries were, because I know they cast a lot of YouTubers as some of the animatronics or the toys or whatever in this one.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, in this one, it was terrible. And some of the acting was just flat out bad. The young girl who was actually good in the first movie, in this movie they asked her to do more acting, and she is not up to the task. She was dreadful.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yikes.
SPEAKER 15 :
I mean, she was the kind of girl that you would basically see in a school play that is poorly done.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, no.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes. Okay, next. In the Lost Lands. And this is with Dave Bautista. And Mila Jovovich. Okay, two actors I like a lot. Not in this movie. This was terrible. It was embarrassing. Dave Bautista, by the way, wrecked his career this year. Unfortunately. 2025 was a bad year for Dave Bautista, and you’ll hear why next. The House on Eden. Okay, this is one of those found footage horror movies where they’re ghost chasing, right? Going into.
SPEAKER 04 :
Call me crazy. I’ve never liked found footage movies.
SPEAKER 15 :
There were some good ones early on.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
But not this one. And it’s not early on. This is terrible. It’s one of those where you go into the you got the YouTubers who go into the ghost house and they’re going to find the ghosts and they’re going to tell you, oh, the terrible things that are happening. Oh, my gosh, was it boring? It was boring. The acting was bad. Don’t see it next. Number five. Head of State. Now, you might be drawn into seeing this, folks, because it stars two big stars, Idris Elba and John Cena. John Cena is a pretty funny guy. Idris Elba is one of my favorite actors.
SPEAKER 04 :
I love Idris Elba.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, but I’m not going to forgive him for this. This is awful. And there are reasons later that I will explain, but I won’t right now. Just Head of State is a lousy action movie. Just bad. Next. Number four, Afterburn. Again, with the aforementioned Dave Bautista.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, no.
SPEAKER 15 :
Folks, it’s a disaster movie and it’s after the disaster. Wow.
SPEAKER 04 :
Horrible. Horrible. You get actors in bad movie after bad movie after bad movie and you do have to genuinely wonder, how much debt are you in?
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes, Dave Bautista shouldn’t be in any because he was in Guardians of the Galaxy. He was red hot for a while. Not now. 2025, man, he’s going to have to make a comeback next year. It’s not good. Number three, one of the funniest actresses in Hollywood made just the worst comedy of the year. Bar none, Bride Hard. And that is Rebel Wilson. And Rebel Wilson can be hysterical.
SPEAKER 04 :
She can be.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes, she can be very, very funny. Oh, my gosh, this was terrible. She was terrible. It was all terrible. It was, you know what, I’m not going to go into it. Just, folks, if you see Brideheart, don’t rent it. You may be thinking, hey, Rebel Wilson, this could be pretty funny. No, it is awful. Next, number two, and these two are really almost a tie. The Carpenter’s Son with Nicolas Cage. And it’s about the story of Jesus and Joseph as his dad. But Jesus is actually a troubled young man. And it’s got Satan played by a tranny. So trans Satan.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean.
SPEAKER 15 :
And actually the girl who plays Satan does the best job in the movie.
SPEAKER 04 :
I would say that’s probably the most accurate part.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, so you got tranny Satan. It’s just weirdness upon weirdness. But here’s the big thing, folks. It’s very, very dark. It’s one of these gloomy, dark movies where you can barely see them half the time. You’re bored out of your wits. It was absolute pain. And finally, the worst movie of the year is Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring Abel, The Weeknd, Tesfaye. Have you heard of him?
SPEAKER 04 :
I’ve heard of The Weeknd, yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, yeah. Well, The Weeknd, he decided to have a big hand in making this movie, and he doesn’t know how, okay? This was horrible. Hurry Up Tomorrow was so bad, it is, I believe, the only movie of the year I left early. I couldn’t take it.
SPEAKER 04 :
Where does he think he can make a good movie? He can’t even make a good TV show. The Idol is awful.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, this was horrible. It was awful. His acting was awful. The directing was awful. The script was horrendous. There was nothing entertaining about it. It was just bad. I don’t even… And I’m going to say this. Usually people who are fanboys or fangirls of somebody are going to like it anyway. No, I don’t think his fans would like this. Okay? This was so bad, it is not worth seeing. So there you go. Now… Before we move on, I just want to get to my most needlessly woke films of the year.
SPEAKER 04 :
All right.
SPEAKER 15 :
And when we come back, we’re going to do Best Actor, Best Actress. You ready?

SPEAKER 15 :
Okay. Number five. Snow White. Yeah. Snow White was quite woke. It’s more girl bossery. All right. You know, got to have a girl boss. And the prince, of course, can’t run anything and he can’t be in charge of anything because he’s a man. Can’t have that.
SPEAKER 04 :
He wasn’t even a prince, right? He was a thief.
SPEAKER 15 :
Basically, but he was going to marry her later. So they replaced a prince with a thief. Look, I don’t even want to get into it. It’s so bad. But of course, the big thing that everybody’s talking about are the CGI dwarves, because at first they were going to use not even dwarves, just the seven whatevers.
SPEAKER 04 :
They were the seven diversity hires from Boulder.
SPEAKER 15 :
Right. Seven diversity hires. That’ll work. Why not?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
They were just going to be all over the map, and then everybody protested. So what’d they do? They did CGI dwarves who look creepy.
SPEAKER 04 :
I still blame Peter Dinklage for that one.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes, I do too. Peter Dinklage, the very well-known dwarf actor, who complained that Hollywood would be doing… Let’s get into this for just a second. He complained what?
SPEAKER 04 :
He complained that it was ableist or something like that to hire dwarf actors for… These dwarf roles. These dwarf films because they’re not… You’re stereotyping us. You’re treating us like mythical creatures and not real people. Right. Now, who got upset at this?
SPEAKER 15 :
The dwarf actor community. And I saw several of them who were interviewed and they said, guys, the seven dwarfs, those seven roles were seven choice roles that everybody in our community was wanting. We were lathering over these. It was going to be a huge opportunity and we were going to make big money doing it.
SPEAKER 04 :
Playing the seven dwarfs in that, huge opportunity. Playing the goblins in Harry Potter, huge opportunity. Those are like the surefire roles for them.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes. And they were cut out of all those roles. They lost all those roles. And a big part of that community turned on Peter Dinklage and said, we don’t like you at all. Okay. Number four, The Carpenter’s Son. Once again, I won’t go into it. It was very woke. Okay. Just…
SPEAKER 04 :
You have to be a very special person to make a biblical story woke. Right.
SPEAKER 15 :
Number three, a movie I didn’t even see, even though it’s obviously a big seller, Stranger Things, the final episode. I just didn’t care.
SPEAKER 04 :
Is that considered a movie?
SPEAKER 15 :
It is. Okay. It’s in the theaters. And I tuned out of Stranger Things after the second season.
SPEAKER 04 :
I have not even seen the first episode.
SPEAKER 15 :
It got really lowbrow and also it got very woke. And in this, of course, they take another character and make them gay and it has nothing to do with the story. They just insert it because the actor is gay. And so gay, they just gay everything up. You could do that, but it has nothing to do with the story and you’re slowing it down.
SPEAKER 04 :
I will say I have seen a lot of response from the gay community on the Internet actually agreeing with us on this, going, this has nothing to do with the story. Why did they have him explain that he’s gay for five minutes when they’re supposed to be saving the world?
SPEAKER 15 :
Right. It has nothing to do with it. Number two, you will disagree with this.
SPEAKER 04 :
I’m going to fight you on this one.
SPEAKER 15 :
Avatar, Fire, and Ash. I don’t know that you should. You can fight me on whether it’s a good movie. But Woke, Avatar, Fire, and Ash, the last… Half hour to 40 minutes is all slaughtering white people, white colonizers. It is getting in touch with worshiping Gaia, Mother Earth. It is heavy environmentalism, heavy anti-white. I mean, heavy, like intense. And what I was asking you before the show, what if all the colonists were black? How would people look at it then? i answered truthfully hollywood would riot right so if hollywood would riot about all these black people being slaughtered from every conceivable corner okay the entire planet folks rises up and slaughters the white people okay this is this is custer’s last stand it’s ridiculous it’s not close and but i mean also throughout it it’s just very new age now Do I think throughout the story that there was wokeness inserted everywhere throughout the story? No, I don’t. Okay.
SPEAKER 04 :
I think that’s where we had the disagreement was we just disagree on how woke it is. I find it moderately woke. You find it very woke.
SPEAKER 15 :
The reason I find it very woke is twofold. Number one, because of the incredible new age environmentalist theme, which is, by the way, preached at you heavily in this movie. I mean, just beat over the head.
SPEAKER 04 :
Has been for every single movie.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, I know. But actually the second one didn’t preach as much. This one did more. But number two, the slaughter all the white people thing, you know, finale for a half hour, just slaughter them in every possible way you can. If you did that to any other group, there would be an uprising.
SPEAKER 04 :
Which we did agree on that one. We said, you know what? Use Hollywood’s favorite term. They needed a more diverse cast.
SPEAKER 15 :
Right. They really did. And finally, the number one most needlessly woke film was Head of State. It was unbelievably woke. I won’t go into it. That’s the one with John Cena and Idris Elba. I won’t bore you with all the details. Why? I’m just telling you folks, if you go to that, get ready for a woke fest left wing preach-a-thon. Okay? You’re not going to like it. Let’s take a break. Folks, there were a lot of great performances this year. First, let’s do actors. Honorable mentions, I got several. First of all, there is young Ben Wang for Karate Kid Legends. He played Lee Fong. Oh, yeah. He was good. Everybody went to the movie to see the two older guys. They left talking about him. He was terrific. Number two, Alfie Williams. He was in 28 Years Later. He’s a young kid who dominated that horror movie. It was amazing. Number three, David Johnson. And he was in The Long Walk.

Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
And he was really good. Number four, John Leguizamo. He played Bob Trevino in Bob Trevino Likes It. Now, I’m not a fan of his, but he was terrific.

You know what? As long as he was terrific.

And he was. Next, Michael Strassner in a movie called The Baltimoreans. And, folks, that’s going to be a pleasant surprise. I can already tell you, The Baltimoreans. He played Cliff. Next, Ewan Horrocks in Truth and Treason. He played Helmut Huberner, and he was fighting the Nazis.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 15 :
And it was really good. Finally, Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
SPEAKER 04 :
Really?
SPEAKER 15 :
In The Smashing Machine, playing Mark Kerr. Put in an excellent performance. Now, I’m not going to put him in my top five, because they’re elite. But he put in a strong, strong performance. Okay, my number five is… Cooper Hoffman from The Long Walk. He played Raymond Garrity. He was the star of it. The Long Walk is the movie about those guys who had to keep walking and walking until the last one was standing. Everybody else gets killed.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, the one where they had special screenings with treadmills.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah. OK, number two. I mean, I’m sorry. Number four, because I’m going five to one. Number four, Russell Crowe in Nuremberg. He played Herman Goering. And boy, was he good.
SPEAKER 04 :
Sounds about right.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yep. Number three, Josh Brolin, who is always a sure thing in my book, and he played Archer Graff in the movie Weapons.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 15 :
And trust me, there’s one you’re going to want to see. Number two, Jesse Plemons, who played Teddy in Begonia. And Teddy has severe psychological issues. And Jesse Plemons knocked it out of the park. He kidnaps somebody and tortures them. And there’s some comedy in it as well. But he is incredible. And number one, the best actor of the year, Timothee Chalamet as Marty Mauser in Marty Supreme.
SPEAKER 04 :
I knew that one was coming.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, it was coming, folks. He put in a knockout performance. The movie was average. He was not. He was incredible.
SPEAKER 04 :
I’d say for me, the only honorable mention I want to add is Dave and Corn Sweat. Superman.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, I thought you did a good job. I just didn’t think it was a demanding role.
SPEAKER 04 :
As a comic book lover, I just liked how he portrayed it.
SPEAKER 15 :
He did a good job. I agree. Okay. Now we’ve got to go to Best Actress. And, folks, there were some wonderful ones. Honorable mentions. Liz Larson, also in the movie The Baltimoreans. She played Dee Dee. She was really good. The Baltimoreans is really two people, and they are terrific. Next, Emma Thompson. Remember her in Dead of Winter? She plays Barb. Yeah, and she’s not the typical Hollywood person. She’s very heavy set, wonderful actress, nailed it. Number four, Danielle Deadweiler in Forty Acres. She plays Haley Freeman. She’s wonderful. Just a wonderful actress. Number three. Oh, my goodness, folks. Elle Fanning in Predator Badlands. She plays two characters, Thea and Tessa. They are both synthozoids. OK, synthetics. And she plays both of the characters. She is the best thing in the movie.

She’s funny and she’s vicious. And she does them both. She’s wonderful. Number two, Julia Garner, who’s a wonderful actress in Weapons. She plays Justine Gandy and knocks it out of the park. And number one, best actress of 2025, Emma Stone in Begonia, playing Michelle. And I’m telling you what, Emma Stone… I did not love Begonia, okay? But I didn’t hate it either. It had good and bad in it. But the acting, wow.

Mission Impossible Final Reckoning. An average movie from an incredible series. Dang. Just not very well done. Number five. Wicked for Good.

Yeah. I’m sorry, folks. Big step down from the first one, and I was not in love with the first one. Okay? I thought it was… I gave it a good review, just not a great one. Number four. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. I already mentioned it earlier. Big drop-off. Terrible movie. Number three. This hurts. Anaconda.

Yep. Anaconda.

You know, and this was supposed to be the next Jumanji. And I was sitting there going, this ain’t Jumanji.

We said it when you reviewed it. Instead of renting Anaconda, just rent Jumanji.

Yeah, this was a big letdown. Number two for biggest letdowns, Captain America Brave New World. Oh, was there some dumb CGI at the end? A draggy story, just a few woke pieces, but I didn’t really care about that. It was just a boring movie. This is not. Marvel is falling apart. And by the way, this thing lost around $150 million.

Okay. Number one. You want to talk about another big loser of money? Tron Ares. Yep. The biggest disappointment of the year. Oh, my gosh. What a waste of time. Now, guess what? There are pleasant surprises.

Here we go. Honorable mentions. Number one. Novocaine. Big time surprise, but I expected it to be pretty good. It was better than I expected. Next, K-Pop Demon Hunters.

Absolutely. K-Pop Demon Hunters, folks. It’s on Netflix, and it is a chick flick. It’s for kids and girls, but I’m a guy who also enjoyed it. It had a lot of really good music and just a lot of fun and humor. What do you say?

It is a great movie. I love it. I was surprised by it because the title is so dumb.
SPEAKER 15 :
Big time surprise next, 28 years later. Zombie movie. I thought that this franchise was going to fall apart. It took a step up, folks. It’s a good movie. Edgier seat and fun. Next, number 24. Excellent movie about a Norwegian fighting the Nazis. Next, The Baltimoreans. A very different romantic comedy that came out of nowhere. Next, Last Breath. This is with Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, and they are on the bottom of the ocean trying to survive. And it is really quite good. Okay. My top five most pleasant surprises. Number five, Flight Risk with Mark Wahlberg as the villain.

And he was good. Flight Risk is a short movie, guys. I think it’s under an hour and a half.

Love a short movie.
SPEAKER 15 :
It’s quick. It’s hard hitting. It is edge of your seat. It’s fun. It has a lot of really good moments and also some very good humor. Good movie. Next, number four, Predator Badlands. I was shocked. All right. This was mainly because of the girl. She was so funny. This was a funny, enjoyable movie that came out of nowhere that was action-filled, good CGI, the whole thing. Next, number three, Warfare. That is a movie that takes you right into the heart of warfare overseas in the Badlands. I mean, it’s tough. Number two, out of nowhere, Karate Kid’s Legends.
SPEAKER 04 :
I did not expect that one to be good.
SPEAKER 15 :
I did not expect this movie to be good. It surprised me, folks, because of Ben Wang, mainly. But it was very good. A little slow, but very good. Number one most pleasant surprise out of nowhere. Weapons. Oh, yeah. Weapons was the most surprising movie of the year. And by the way, I think most reviewers would say that. It came out of nowhere. Weapons is a movie that is a horror movie. We’re going to be talking about in the next list, of course. But it’s not just a horror movie. You don’t have to think, oh, just another slasher movie. I don’t like those. No, no, no. This is really well written. And it’s a mystery. It’s got it all.

That’s hard to achieve for horror movies anymore.

The Dead of Winter. a woman fighting in the freezing snow against some killers, The Long Walk, Stephen King thriller, and Nezha 2, which is a Chinese cartoon which actually made more money than any movie the entire year. Wow, that’s incredible. Number 10. This is shocking. Fantastic Four First Steps. I know it lost money, folks. I know people were worried about it. It is actually an entertaining movie, and almost every reviewer felt so.

Number nine, Final Destination Bloodlines.

take these and and from there there’s action folks it is fighting nazis it is really good and it is on netflix right now so this is an easy one for you to see uh the next one oh my goodness the clips just went wrong so i can’t play a clip oh no number two for the entire year novocaine oh wow yes and this is the guy who can’t feel pain Yeah, he has something wrong where he cannot feel any kind of pain. It’s an action comedy love story. It came out at the beginning of the year. I was shocked by it. I thought it was going to be my number one movie of the year as the year went on. But one other movie came along.

Now I’m excited to know which one edged it out.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes, one movie that was able to edge it out, which kind of shocked me because it took a lot to edge out Novocaine. Let me tell you something, folks. Novocaine is a ride. It is funny. It is crazy. It is fun. It is a very good movie. It’s an action movie. I laughed at it a lot. It had really good performances. And it’s gross at times. OK, it is actually very gross at times because what’s going on? He’s getting himself broken up, banged up, cut up.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
And beat up.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean, it’s a real condition. And people who live with that condition do just that.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes, they do. They just it’s funny. Folks, Novocaine is very good. But are you ready for my number one movie of the year?

I mean, I don’t know if they’re ready, but I’m ready.
SPEAKER 15 :
OK, here we go. I’m going to play the entire trailer. Weapons.

This is a true story that happened in my town. So this one Wednesday is like a normal day for the whole school. But today was different. Every other class had all their kids. But Mrs. Gandy’s room was totally empty. And do you know why? Because the night before, at 2.17 in the morning, every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs, and into the dark. And they never came back.
SPEAKER 08 :
I don’t understand at all. Why just her classroom? Why only hers?
SPEAKER 14 :
We have a lot of emotional parents here. I think it’s best if you keep some distance from this place.
SPEAKER 10 :
Where did you go?
SPEAKER 16 :
This is where the story really starts.
SPEAKER 15 :
Okay, that’s Weapons. Now, folks, Weapons is basically this. It is a thriller with supernatural… Overtones. Okay. There’s supernatural things going on here. It’s got everything. It’s got incredible acting, right? You’ve got Josh Brolin, who is one of John’s very favorites and mine too. Julia Garner, who is wonderful. And she is a teacher. And one day she comes in and all the kids in her class have disappeared. Only her class.
SPEAKER 04 :
That would be terrifying.
SPEAKER 15 :
Right. None of the other classes, her class, all the kids are gone. Okay. And everybody in the town wants to know what happened to the kids.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean, I would want to know.
SPEAKER 15 :
Right. And they’ve got these cameras right on their front doors. So they can see that a bunch of these kids at 2.17 a.m. ran out the front doors and ran out into the darkness never to return.
SPEAKER 04 :
That is terrifying.
SPEAKER 15 :
Right. And so how is everybody looking at her right now? It was her. She’s the teacher. It was her class that everybody disappeared from.
SPEAKER 04 :
When she’s a trusted adult.
SPEAKER 15 :
Except for one kid. One kid is still there. Just one kid and her. And she’s the only adult. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 04 :
She’s the trusted adult. So it’s like my first assumption would be, OK, what did you specifically do to the kids?
SPEAKER 15 :
Exactly. So she’s terrified. She’s wondering, oh, my gosh, what am I going to do? And Josh Brolin is one of the parents and he’s furious and he’s basically leading a mob, an angry mob. But he starts to investigate.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 15 :
And then you start to see there’s more and more happening. And folks, this is very interesting what they do then. They look at the story from different perspectives. They tell her story. They tell his story. They tell another person’s story. They tell the principal’s story. The principal, he’s an interesting character. He’s a gay principal. Okay.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 15 :
And… He goes through, I’m just going to say some very traumatic things.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, no.
SPEAKER 15 :
That happened, okay, with, well, I don’t want to give away too much of it, folks, but let me just say it is very intense what he goes through. But there’s an evil going on in this town. And you’re getting closer to it with each story that they tell. With each story, you are seeing more of the truth unfold to you.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s actually a really clever storytelling device.
SPEAKER 15 :
It is, and it is so well done. This was not a good year for movies. Let’s take a step back and look at movies for a second, just for 2025. How was it as a year? How did it compare to 2024? It wasn’t as good. No. This was the only movie this year. it was one of, I would say Novocaine would have been in the top 10 last year. Okay. And there were a couple others that might, you know, number 24, maybe 28 years, maybe Karate Kid Legends, maybe, maybe not. Okay. This was a weak year. 2024 was better. And by the way, I’m going to read off some of the best of 2024 for you again. Why? Because those are still out for rental. But really quick here, for this year, my best movie is Weapons. And I don’t even know that it’s really close.
SPEAKER 17 :
Fair.
SPEAKER 15 :
It is just flat out better. It’s the most interesting, differently done movie of the year. Remember the first time you watched The Sixth Sense? how it was totally different from anything you had seen before.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean, yeah, that’s the thing. Movies are not as unique as they used to be, so it’s nice to see a unique film.
SPEAKER 15 :
And this is a unique film without being a crazy art film. I don’t like the weird art films. I don’t get into that. I want mainstream, entertaining, and it was, okay? But, you know, Saving Private Ryan, the first time you see it, it’s like, wow, I’ve never seen anything like it. Raiders of the Lost Ark, first time you see it, wow, I’ve never seen anything like it.
SPEAKER 04 :
You want mainstream and interesting, but you want creative
SPEAKER 15 :
Right. Pirates of the Caribbean. I’d never seen anything like it. Ghostbusters. I’d never seen anything like it. Groundhog Day. I’d never seen. See what I’m saying? Yeah. I like a movie that catches me in a way that I haven’t seen in a while. And that is what Weapons did. And I’m not the only one who liked it. The critics adored it. Peanut Butter Falcon, I’d never seen anything like it. It was just wonderful. Ford v Ferrari, I’d never seen. See, there are movies like that that just catch you and you really enjoy them. Now, let’s take a quick look back at 2024. I want to give you my top 10 list for that. Why? Because, folks, these are still out on rental, and 2024 was a little better year.

honorable mentions saturday night of all things oh yeah showing one night in of the first uh airing of saturday night live i remember that one actually being very good the first episode that they were putting out and everything was falling apart behind the scenes the performances are great and honestly it’s just a very well done little film next one life with anthony hopkins oh yeah Very touching. Bit slow. Very touching. Okay, here we go. 10 to 1 for Best Movies of 2024. And I’m just going to read through them. Number 10, Gladiator 2.

And was it as good as 1? No. Was it good? Yeah, it was very good. Number 9, Reagan.

I remember that one being very good.

Yeah, with Lupita Nyong’o as the star, and she’s a wonderful actress. Number seven. Guys, it’s a kid movie, but I’m telling you, it’s really good. Transformers 1.

My husband loved that movie.

Yep, and kids who saw it loved it. I gave it four stars. Number six, Cabrini. The story of Mother Cabrini.

Excellent acting. Outstanding. Number three, Ordinary Angels. This is from Angel Studio. Very touching, very funny, very enjoyable, great performances. Number two, a cartoon, The Wild Robot.

Wasn’t it excellent?

Number one, and this one is still, I believe, yeah, it’s on Disney Prime. Young Woman and the Sea with Daisy Ridley.

I did not watch it, but I heard that one was excellent.

Yeah, I did get John to watch it. He loved it because he was like, really? Because that wasn’t one that John would want to watch. He watched it, and it’s about Gertrude Ederle swimming across the English Channel. And, folks, it’s a really good movie.

Yeah, Young Woman in the Sea, best movie of the year. Okay, once again, I’m going to do the countdown, and then we’ll finish up. Because, once again, top ten for 2025. Fantastic Four, first steps, not bad. Number nine, Final Destination, Bloodlines. Really incredible how they do the deaths. in this movie. Number eight, Predator Badlands. Way more fun than I expected. Way more. Number seven, Bob Trevino likes it. It is touching. The acting is fantastic, and it is really out of the blue. Number six, F1. No, it’s not as good as Top Gun Maverick, but folks, it’s the same style, and Brad Pitt is terrific in it. Number five, Karate Kid Legends. surprisingly fun, surprisingly enjoyable. I didn’t expect it. Number four, 28 Years Later, a good horror movie, and the next one is coming out this summer. Number three, number 24, it’s on Netflix. You can watch it right now, and it is a really good fighting the Nazis movie. Well done. Number three, number two, Novocaine. Fun, fun, fun, stupid fun, and lots of action. It is surprisingly good. And number one, once again, is Weapons. What do you think?
