Hey, John, I normally start off my podcast with the quote of the week, but this week I had four.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay.

And I’m going to go back. I’m going to try to do these in chronological order. The first one is from a guy you may have heard of. This was from a guy named Senator Barack Obama. Okay. when he was thinking about running for president. And here was a speech he gave on the Senate. He said, quote, We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants of this country. Senator Barack Obama. Now, let’s go to Senator Hillary Clinton. when she was competing against Obama in the Democratic primary for president in 2016. She said, I am, as you know, adamantly against illegal immigration. I voted when I was a senator. I’m sorry, this was when she was Secretary of State. No, actually when she was, anyway, I voted when I was a senator to build a barrier to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in. And then we go to Chuck Schumer. People who enter our country without our permission are illegal aliens, and illegal aliens shouldn’t be treated the same as people who enter our country legally. And actually, here’s the earliest one of the bunch. President Bill Clinton, in his 1995 State of the Union address, quote, All Americans are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. They impose burdens upon taxpayers. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation to permit this kind of abuse of our immigration laws They are here illegally. They have to go. And if you watch the video of that State of the Union, every Democrat in the chamber stood up and applauded, standing ovation. My question, John, is what has changed and why?
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, mine too. Yeah, thank you. What has changed? I mean, other than we know that they continue to get their marching orders from the hardcore group that’s driving the party, the Marxist left drives the party. And I guess, Joe, in my mind, what has changed? I think they figured out that, wait a minute, we have a tool. that can be used to create more chaos, which, by the way, is part of the Marxist playbook. So if we can have this tool and we can have more chaos when it’s all said and done, not only chaos but a huge financial burden and all the other things that we could talk about, Joe, for literally the next two to three hours, reality is I think they’re looking at this as, hey, this plays into our playbook. Yeah, we’re going to make a fundamental shift because, you know, my feeling, Joe, is the powers that run the party continue to change and morph and get more radical all the time.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah. And you look at, you know, they have no guiding principles, you know, unlike the Republican Party, you know, small government list. They have no guiding principles that what’s ever convenient for the day. I mean, that speech by Bill Clinton from 1995, Trump could give that speech tomorrow and he would probably be, you know, the press would go after him and the Democrats would criticize him. Clinton got a standing ovation for giving that speech and everything Clinton said is what Trump has been actually doing. So it just blows my mind. So here you’ve got, you know, Obama, Clinton, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer all saying what Trump is doing. And they were all applauded for it. And think about it. Hillary was even advocating building a barrier, quote, building a wall. Yet in Trump’s first term, when he went to get money for the wall, they blocked them. They wouldn’t give him the money to complete the wall. So, you know, the. You know, if it wasn’t for hypocritical standards, I don’t think the Democrats would have any standards whatsoever.
SPEAKER 09 :
No, I agree with you on that wholeheartedly. They would not. And again, for those of you listening, trust me, I again, I’m not you know, I don’t have any inside baseball knowledge on what I just said, Joe, a few minutes ago, other than just watching what’s happened with the party, its fundamental shift, the way that it continues to go farther and farther left and Yes, it was left all the way back to even when Bill Clinton was doing it, but not to the extent that it is today. In fact, man alive, I think suffice to say you could put Bill Clinton in the middle today, given what he did back then with his policies and choice of words and so on. I get it. He’s still a radical lefty when it’s all said and done, Joe. But the way he behaved and governed was not that way.
SPEAKER 16 :
No, he was more of a moderate. And by the way, by today’s standards, JFK would be considered a right-wing nutjob.
SPEAKER 09 :
Absolutely. Yeah, he would not fit in their party at all today.
SPEAKER 16 :
Not at all. All right, then I move on to the stupidest thing I heard all week. And this is about the women up in Minnesota that went to the Target. Each one bought a box of Morton Salt. And as soon as they got through the checkout line, they turned right around and lined up at the returns line to return their salt to make a statement.
SPEAKER 09 :
And the statement being, we’re just going to waste all of these workers’ time at this particular target? Or I’m confused as to what statement that makes by returning it, Joe.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, you know, their whole thing is, well, we bought the salt because salt melts ice. And we want to make a statement that, you know, we think we need to melt ice. But yes, they wasted the time of the cashiers and they wasted the time of the people working the clerk’s desk. And of course, they wasted their own time If you’re in a line of 100 people waiting to return a box of salt, John, and what’s a box of salt?

Yeah, not a lot. Salt’s cheap.
SPEAKER 09 :
Drive to the store, buy the salt, check out.
SPEAKER 16 :
and then wait in the return line for $2.50 pots of salt.

And by the way, they’re actually, I mean, in a way they’re right, but in a way they’re wrong, because as you know, Joe, being the engineer that you are, salt doesn’t really melt ice in the traditional sense of melting. It lowers the freezing point of the water, disrupting the ice crystal, so they melt at a much colder temperature, and they stay liquid longer, meaning it really doesn’t melt in the traditional form of melting.
SPEAKER 16 :
No, it just lowers the melting point. So instead of water freezing at 32, water might not freeze until 26.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right. So it really isn’t a melt. That’s why you can make ice cream with it, by the way. Right. Because it lowers the temperature overall to make ice cream.
SPEAKER 16 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 09 :
When you’re making it on your own, I mean, you know, when you’re doing homemade ice cream.
SPEAKER 16 :
And by the way, and the fact that most of your listeners probably haven’t heard of it unless they were listening to the show shows how much of their time. It didn’t get a lot of national exposure on TV. So it didn’t really make a big deal.
SPEAKER 09 :
But I’m glad you brought it up because I want to talk about this for a moment because I did see that particular article. Charlie and I talked about it for just a moment as well. I mean, to me, Joe, these are supposed to be people that are there for the little guy. They’re really there to help. And they want to make sure that in this case, you know, all of the immigrants get, you know, their fair shake and this, that, and the other. And yet, by doing this, all they’ve done is literally waste the time of these particular employees that are working at this particular target.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, I’m sure they didn’t make any friends, people who were working the cashier lines and the return line at that target.
SPEAKER 09 :
I mean, basically, Joe, that just shows you how selfish they really are.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yep, no consideration for them.
SPEAKER 09 :
And that is a total selfish move that doesn’t do anything to move the needle on their side other than to prove how selfish they are.

Exactly.

Yep, 100% spot on, John, spot on. John, I know you talked, but I want to move on. Did you play any audio of the church protest?
SPEAKER 09 :
No, I haven’t. No, in fact, all week long I’ve had so much other stuff going on, I have not at all, no.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, can you play that little clip? We don’t need to play the whole thing. I think just the first 90 seconds or so, you decide where to cut it off. But, you know, this is in the middle of service. And by the way, the person—let me set this up. One of the supervisors for ICE in that area, he’s not a field aide, he’s a supervisor, he’s also a pastor of this church, but he was not the one conducting services that morning. He wasn’t even—he might have been in the audience, but he was not conducting the services. So these people, led by a woman who’s the head of the local Black Lives Matter chapter, brings the protest into the church in the middle of services. And here’s what happened. Where are you? Where are you? Where are your people? Why are you not at Whipple every day fighting for the humanity, standing for our people? Where are you? You drink your coffee, you got your jewelry, you have your nice clothes, but what do you do? What do you do to stand for your Somali and Latino communities? You have no comment, exactly.

Joe, this is, and I’ve seen clips of this before, I’ll cut it there, because basically, and for those of you that it’s hard to see what’s going on, but Joe, this is just nothing but total thuggery when it’s all said and done.
SPEAKER 16 :
And it’s also a violation of two federal laws, John. I think that’s been lost. There was a, in 1994, there was a federal law passed called the FACE Act, and it made it a federal crime to interfere or harass, interfere with the operations of or harass the employees of Abortion clinics and churches, because at the time there was some— That’s right. Well, guess what? They interrupted these church services. It was interfere, intimidate, or threaten. Well, they were clearly interfering and intimidating both the parishioners and the pastor of that church. They committed a federal violation. And the woman who led this, she’s also an attorney.
SPEAKER 09 :
She knows better.
SPEAKER 16 :
She knows better. By the way, there’s also a prior thing called the Ku Klux Klan back – because way back when, the Ku Klux Klan used to go around Baptist churches at Black Baptist and try to intimidate the people going there. So there’s also a prior law that also applies. It was called the Ku Klux Klan Act, if anybody – so they probably broke two federal laws. I hope the Department of Justice – comes down on them with a ton of bricks, and I hope she gets convicted of a felony, and I hope she gets disbarred, because she deserves to be disbarred. She should be.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, this is one of those where, you know, not literally, but heads should roll with this, Joe. In other words, they should all be held accountable. Anybody that entered that church in that way should have to pay some sort of either time behind bars, restitution, something along those lines, in my opinion.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, time behind, you know, maybe a week, maybe even just a weekend in jail plus, you know, 40, 80 hours of community service at a minimum. But I think… I think the woman who had it should get a felony conviction, and she should get disbarred.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, and you know what? I’ll add one more thing, because I’ve been around enough churches to know that, you know what, Joe? There’s always things around churches that need done. Building things, painting, remodeling, you know, stuff that needs fixed, because, you know, churches are typically on pretty tight budgets. I know that if anybody starts texting me, I know, Joe, there’s exceptions to everything I just said. But I can tell from looking at this particular church that, yeah, there’s some things they definitely would be in need of. You know what I would do as a judge? I would make them do community service, but at that church.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, paint it, do landscaping, trim the lawn, pull weeds, whatever.
SPEAKER 09 :
Anything it needs. I would have the church staff board, whatever, put together a laundry list of things that they’ve been wanting to get done, that maybe even they’ve got a team of people that work on weekends periodically doing. You know how that is? There’s always the church building committee that’s always trying to get some things done. They have work days and so on. Yeah, make these people do the work days.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yep, yep.
SPEAKER 09 :
If I were a judge, I mean, Joe, I’m asking for a lot. I know that’s not going to happen, but that’s what I would be doing if I was a judge.
SPEAKER 16 :
John, I couldn’t agree with you more.
SPEAKER 09 :
That would be a fitting… Because that would be more punishment for these people than sending them to jail.
SPEAKER 16 :
John, I think you’re right, yeah. But it would still be a felony conviction.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, absolutely. Yeah, that I would make stand. I wouldn’t change anything along those lines. But the punishment itself, I would make them, because it would be, in this case, huge punishment to have them go back and work in that church.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, I think that would be ironic and apropos, John. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 09 :
And then, by the way, if I was the church, I’d have a film crew there that day.
SPEAKER 16 :
Wouldn’t that be great?
SPEAKER 09 :
That would be me, but that’s why I’m not a pastor, Joe.
SPEAKER 16 :
All right. I want to move on to another story. You talked about briefly—I think it was on Monday, one of your callers came in and talked about the school in— in Kansas, where the sixth grade students were asked to name their role models.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes, yes.
SPEAKER 16 :
And I don’t think you talk about it a lot, but here’s the backdrop. So it’s an elementary school, sixth grade students, and the assignment was to, you know, write down and name somebody you think should be a role model for yourself. And as they went around the room, the teacher would write the names on the board. Well, they got to one kid, and he said, Charlie Kirk. And the teacher said, no, he shouldn’t be your role model. You need to pick somebody else. And, you know, and of course the kid is intimidated by the teacher. Went a few seats further and they write down a bunch of other names and they get to a kid and he says, Donald Trump. Same teacher tells him the same thing. You know, he can’t be your role model. He’s not a good person. And they make him pick somebody else. And then they get to another kid and he says, Jesus. And she tells him the same exact thing. So Charlie Kirk, Donald Trump, Jesus, they were all told by a teacher, you can’t have them as a role model pick somebody else. Now, the school is a governmental institution. Does the First Amendment apply to the school?
SPEAKER 09 :
In that particular setting, Joe, even if they were in a private organization, the reality is, given that they were asked an open-ended question, they have freedom of speech in that, definitely. Yes, but the fact that they’re a governmental institution— Yeah, that just adds to it, but point being, you know, it was an open-ended question. You can answer however you want to.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, and then they were told, if you have any, you know, issues or concerns, you know, please share them with your teacher principal. They were told not to tell their parents. Well, the parents got wind of this.
SPEAKER 09 :
That’s where it gets even worse, by the way. Now you know you’re in trouble. Now we’re in cover-up mode, Joe.
SPEAKER 16 :
Now we’re in cover-up. And so the American Center for Law and Justice has taken this on as a challenge. And they’re filing suit against the school and the – I think there was a guidance counselor and a teacher conducting this little exercise.
SPEAKER 09 :
And by the way, they’re most likely going to lose.
SPEAKER 16 :
They’re most clearly going to lose, clearly going to lose.
SPEAKER 09 :
Not to get off on another tangent here, Joe, but why do individuals like this do this when they know at the end of the day they’re going to most likely get sued and lose?
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, I mean, are they that ignorant about our Constitution and the First Amendment?
SPEAKER 09 :
I mean, Joe, I mean, are they just that ignorant or blinded or brainwashed or all of the above that they don’t understand how the system works?

I’m baffled by that, Joe. I really am. That part I’m really baffled. I mean, now, I do think that when they realized that they had done something wrong and said, don’t tell your parents, at that point, yeah, they know there’s no turning back.

And that’s when you know that they know they’ve done wrong.

Anyway, and these people all have college degrees, and you’d think they would know better, but I don’t know.

Joe, I talked about this earlier in the week. I did this on Monday, actually, and unfortunately, I think we live in a day and age, and I got into this even more yesterday with Andy talking about we literally have raised generations of stupid people. I don’t know how else to say it. I’m trying to be nice, but literally we’ve raised generations of ignorant people that really don’t know anything. In fact— So many people have a total misunderstanding of our First Amendment rights and how they actually work. I mean, they think that they can basically do whatever they want, whenever they want, including on the job. And the reality, Joe, is there’s lots of places where you do not have free speech. You have free speech in the public square. That’s the way the founding fathers set it up. But no, when you’ve sold your time to an employer, they’ve agreed to buy your time. They now own that time and they can tell you what to say and not say.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, they can say, I don’t want you to say a word for the next eight hours. Yeah, not a peep out of you or you’re fired.
SPEAKER 09 :
I mean, I know that sounds ridiculous, but you’ve sold your time to them. You’ve agreed to do that for X amount of money. They can control everything you do.
SPEAKER 16 :
100%, John, 100%. The First Amendment only applies to the government. It says the government can’t do this. The government can’t do that. The government can’t take away your guns. The government can’t interfere with your religion. the government can’t interfere with your speech. It says nothing about private industry.
SPEAKER 09 :
So why do so many people struggle with this, Joe? Even our side sometimes doesn’t get this right.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, John. I think the First Amendment, well, my employer can’t violate my First Amendment rights. No, because your employer is not the government, and therefore the First Amendment only applies to things the government does not to what your employer does.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, I mean, I’ve seen, for example, our side get mad because some football player puts, you know, John 316 under his eyes, and the NFL says, well, you can’t do that. And then, you know, I get it, the NFL might allow something else that our side doesn’t like. But here’s the reality of it. If you don’t like it, quit watching, because at the end of the day, the NFL can do whatever they want to.
SPEAKER 16 :
That’s 100% correct.
SPEAKER 09 :
And our side at times, Joe, doesn’t understand what I just said.
SPEAKER 16 :

I don’t get it. I mean, again, I don’t – both sides make huge mistakes at times when it comes to these things, and I don’t understand why, because it’s not that difficult. And I’m not an attorney, Joe. It’s not that difficult.

No, it’s not that difficult. And, John, we could go on for an hour, but – hey, before we – I’ve got one or two more things.
SPEAKER 09 :

The California billionaire – we talked about this, I think, maybe two weeks ago. Now, it hasn’t even gone through the legislature yet, but California has proposed – a one-time wealth tax, not an income tax, a wealth tax, that if you have a worth of more than a billion dollars, the state of California was going to impose a one-time, well, they say one-time, we all know how that goes, a 5% tax on your wealth. Now, if you’re Larry Ellison, the guy who founded Oracle, and you’re worth $400 billion, the last time I looked, 5% of $400 billion is $20 billion.
SPEAKER 09 :
Big chunk.
SPEAKER 16 :
Now, if you’re Larry Ellison, you think you might consider moving out of California in order to save $20 billion?
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, several reasons. Number one, yes. And it’s the other thing that liberals, for some odd reason, don’t understand. He doesn’t have that cash in the bank, Joe, as you know. So the reality is he’d have to go borrow money to even pay that $20 billion.
SPEAKER 16 :
Or he’d have to sell a bunch of his stock and pay enormous capital gains tax. So on top of the wealth, if he wanted to do it by liquidating his stock, Not only would he have to pay $20 billion to the state of California, he’d probably have to pay an equal amount in capital gains taxes if he chose to liquidate some of his stock.
SPEAKER 09 :
Meaning they’re not going to do that. They’ll just move and go someplace else. They’re not that dumb.
SPEAKER 16 :
And it’s not just Larry. So here’s a guy. So a tech entrepreneur, a guy named Chamath, has been keeping track. Now, a month ago or two months ago, he totaled up the combined wealth of all the billionaires in California. And not everybody knows who they are.
SPEAKER 03 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 16 :
And he estimated their combined wealth was roughly $2 trillion. Now, as of last week, 50% of that wealth has left the state, taking not only their wealth, they have taken their income tax revenues, their sales tax revenues, their real estate tax revenues, and all of their staffs and the salaries of their staffs and the taxes that their staff pays. And he posted this on X. Among those who have given up on California are Google co-founders Sergey Sergey Brin and Larry Page, each, by the way, worth about $200 billion. And the New York Times reports that 10 days before Christmas, Brin terminated or moved 15 California LLC companies that oversaw some of his business interests and investments out of the state. More than 45 California LLC companies associated with Mr. Page filed documents last month to either move or become inactive or move out of state. And venture capitalist Peter Thiel opened an office for his family investment firm in Miami. and David Sachs moved his Kraft Ventures office to Austin, Texas. So already the $2 trillion, you know, they thought they were going to get 5% of $2 trillion. Now, at the rate it’s going, they’re going to be lucky to get 5% of $1 trillion, but I doubt that’ll stay there. And not only, and whatever they gain, what’s ever left is going to be offset by the massive loss of income taxes, sales taxes, and property taxes from all these people who have left the state and waving bye-bye. I imagine those people are paying enormous amounts of income taxes to the state of California.
SPEAKER 09 :
At the end of the day, they’re not going to win, Joe. And another one is where I’m dumbfounded. Do they not understand these people aren’t dumb? They got there by being very smart, Joe.
SPEAKER 16 :
Money is fungible, and apparently they never read the tale of the goose that laid the golden egg because they’re trying to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.
SPEAKER 09 :
And furthermore, Joe, even if these people that we’re talking about aren’t smart, their advisors are.
SPEAKER 16 :
Their advisors are.
SPEAKER 09 :
I mean, let’s not forget that. I mean, they may be clueless and not paying any attention. Maybe they fell into all the money, and that’s not the case with Larry Ellison, of course. But, you know, maybe they just fell into it. But here’s the reality. The folks that are making sure they keep that, they’re smart.
SPEAKER 16 :
Right. And this law, John, hasn’t even been passed yet.
SPEAKER 09 :
And they’re already doing it.
SPEAKER 16 :
They’re already doing this in anticipation of the law passing.
SPEAKER 09 :
Unbelievable.

They’re getting out in front of it.
SPEAKER 09 :
Unbelievable. So… I got nothing, Joe. I got nothing.

Well, I got one more. I got one more for you, quick. Go for it. Elon Musk making a huge bet. You know, AI, of course, AI data centers are going all over. They require enormous amounts of energy and enormous amounts of cooling HVAC because they run hot. Elon Musk is making a massive bet to put AI processing centers in orbit around the world.
SPEAKER 09 :
Pretty good bet, I would say.
SPEAKER 16 :
Two things, by the way, on Earth, you only get from a solar panel, you only get about 15 watts of power per square foot of solar panel. But because 75% of that solar energy is absorbed by the atmosphere, you put that same solar panel in outer space, you get over 100 watts per square foot, number one. And number two, because the temperature in outer space is minus 280 degrees Celsius, you don’t need any cooling.
SPEAKER 09 :
Just let it do its thing.

I’m a little cold. You guys are a little colder back there. We were actually nice and warm, had a pretty decent day today here. But, yeah, no, you guys are cold now. It’s going to get cold in a lot of places here included. I think we’re going to look at minus one potentially over the weekend. But, yeah, you guys are – and I think from what Joe, our last guest, just said, you guys have more weather coming too.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, so they were saying yesterday they were unsure. Today they’re starting to say 6 to 12 with the potential for more.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 17 :
And then I actually looked – The GFS put out a preliminary forecast for next weekend, and there could be a system that comes through that drops 20 on us. Wow. That would be interesting.
SPEAKER 09 :
We need that, by the way. Send that our way. We don’t have near enough here, so we need some of that.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, right.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right. Talk to us about what’s going on with Wall Street and everything. And really quick, this is even before you sent the agenda for today. You know, Trump announced, of course, at DeVos that essentially he’s got a deal put together with Greenland. There was all sorts of people, of course, yesterday up in arms. Wall Street was even up in arms over what he was saying, his comments and so on. And when it’s all said and done. I guess you could say another win for Trump because he’s basically got a lifelong deal put together with the EU and Greenland to make sure that we can use that for our defense mechanisms.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, you know, so there are a couple different things going on there. So Congress was – I like to talk to people all over the place. Some of the people I like to talk to are policy analysts down in D.C. Okay. And so – you know, the conversations had with them talking to them in the beginning of the week, they were like, you know, Congress really isn’t worried about any of the Greenland stuff going on. Um, I guess there was a treaty signed in 1951 under the Truman administration and it was the Denmark us tree. Uh, people can look it up if they want. It was called the Denmark treaty on the defense of Greenland. And as long as Denmark and the U S were members of NATO, They gave the U.S. rights to build airstrips, ports, whatever they needed to defend NATO’s interests in the North Atlantic. And so the important part there is something that’s called the GU gap, the GI, meaning Greenland, Iceland, UK gap. It’s a space of water in between those areas where Russia would come down from the north. Um, so yeah, look, uh, the U S abandoned a lot of the force. I think it had like 16 bases there a few years back. And it, it just, it, it sounds like Trump resuscitated that deal now. So wall street wasn’t really as worked up about this as the media presented and kept claiming over the last couple of days because wall street knew there was this potential.
SPEAKER 03 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 17 :
And so, you know, if you listen to anybody, I’ve, this has driven me crazy over the last couple of days because Scott percent went on meet the press, I believe Sunday morning and was just, he said, look, Donald Trump is interested in what’s best for everybody within NATO. He wants to protect the North Atlantic against China, possibly coming in through the Arctic, coming into the ice flow. And they want to, from Russia sneaking down from the north. And he said, you know, cooler heads will prevail. Everybody needs to calm down. Trump is not looking to destroy NATO. We went through this in Trump’s first term. I think it was the end of his first term when Trump went after NATO for not meeting their spending commitments.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right, right.
SPEAKER 17 :
And at that time, I’m sure you remember, you know, a lot of people in the media start saying, oh, my God, Trump’s trying to ruin NATO. Trump’s trying to ruin NATO. He wasn’t. He’s just saying, look, you guys are supposed to be porking over 2% of GDP to pay for the military presence, and you’re not. The U.S. was paying like 3% or so at the time, I believe. But since then, a lot of those countries are paying their fair and then some now. So, again, I think the media got a lot of people really worked up about this, that Trump is trying to tear the world apart. He’s not. He’s highlighting a vulnerability that’s out there. and trying to get everybody to focus on it and get it figured out.
SPEAKER 09 :
And I’m assuming, after listening to all of what you just said, his threat of the 10% tariffs on the EU was really just a wake-up call to them that, hey, guys, yeah, we got this deal on the table, but if you’re dinking around and don’t get this deal done on the other side, yeah, I’m going to go ahead and throw that in, and our deal is off, meaning it was a wake-up call to them.
SPEAKER 17 :
That’s exactly right. I think there’s another part going on there, too, though. Part of the problem with the EU, if you look at anything that they do legislatively, every member nation, 27 members, they all have to vote in favor of it. If one member nation doesn’t, they can’t do a deal. So the U.S. and the EU are trying to work out a trade deal. They’re getting closer, but the EU has been dragging their feet. I think through this process as well, Trump was going after two things. One, the defense vulnerability. And two, he was going after the fact that he’s trying to hold their feet to the fire and saying, guys, you can’t drag your feet on this deal until you hope that maybe another administration gets in the White House. There’s a turnover. And then you’re like, you know, we don’t have to do anything. So, again, Trump isn’t looking to hurt America. He’s not looking to tear things apart. He’s just trying to push the conversation forward in what’s in everybody’s best interest.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay. By the way, that makes total sense. In fact, I’m glad you explained all that because I think there’s some folks listening. I’ve even had some text messages and so on along those lines. Man, what is Trump doing? He’s blowing everything up. This is ridiculous. He needs to just be quiet, blah, blah, blah. And really, at the end of the day, of course, now, 24 hours later, it’s like, well, you know, all of what you said along those lines, none of that happened. In fact, now there’s even probably as good as or better deal than we had prior.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yes. And so what he also said today, like the media said, oh, my God, he’s going to try to take over Greenland. He said, I have no interest in using military force. I don’t want to take over Greenland. It just it’s I just it kills me how, you know, it just it got. people got so worked up in a short period of time about this. And, and again, I just look, I think sometimes the way the delivery comes out, it isn’t the way everybody wants it to be.
SPEAKER 09 :
I would agree with a hundred percent. You could communicate probably better than what he does sometimes.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah. But, but he ruffles feathers and I don’t know if he tries to, you know, gets people like on their back heels a little bit or something, but, but really it just, He was trying to go down a road that he’s like, it’s best for NATO, saying, hey, look, we have a vulnerability here. Let’s fix this. Let’s get it rectified. And he’s also trying to push for a trade deal that it’s going to be good for everybody in the EU and the U.S. So it sounds to me, after what came out of this today, that we’re sort of moving back in that direction.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay. Good to know. Good to know. Talk to us about Japan. What’s happening there?
SPEAKER 17 :
Yes. So there’s another big, big piece of the puzzle on the sell-off yesterday that The media didn’t really talk about it because it’s probably not as exciting. But the recently elected prime minister in Japan, well, she was chosen by her party. She decided she wants to call a snap election because she wants to introduce an economic stimulus plan. The concern is on Wall Street right now that if she does this, she’s going to drive the yen down more. It’s going to cause inflation. That’s going to drive bond yields up. blah, blah, blah. So Scott Bessette has been warning the Bank of Japan, saying, guys, he’s been saying this since the middle of last year. You need to do a little more, be a little more aggressive, get rates up, slow any inflation threat, potential down. So basically, because of this, what you saw was Japanese bonds sold off, yields shot up. That caused yields all over the place. The meaning like 10-year U.S. yields, 10-year German yields. Those are the main sovereign bond yields people look at. They all spiked yesterday. And when people see, oh, my God, borrowing costs are going up, they start to sell risk assets like stocks out of concern. So I believe it was the finance minister for Japan came out overnight, said, hey, look, we’re going to clamp down on this. Everything’s going to be fine. So he calmed everybody’s nerves. The Senate had come out late yesterday and said he spoke to Japan, said you guys need to step in and do something about this. And that’s sort of, I think that was a big driver, too, of getting the market to stabilize and rebound today. Now, through all of this, the one set of stocks has done really well. You and I were talking about this the last couple of weeks. are small cap stocks. And the reason they’ve done well is because 81% to 85% of their revenues come from the U.S. And so Wall Street likes them right now because Wall Street likes the direction the U.S. economy is headed in. So even though you saw NASDAQ sold off 2.5%, the S&P probably sold off a similar amount, really didn’t sell off very much yesterday, and then they did very well today.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay. Okay. PCE coming out tomorrow. What are your thoughts there?
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, so we’re going to get November PCE. BEA is playing catch up to the shutdown. Look, I think you’re going to see annualized inflation drop to 2.6%. Okay. And the last time we got these numbers was in September. It was at 2.8%. Again, what that tells me is, you know, it’s going to improve the cushion for the Federal Reserve to cut rates again this year.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay. And on that, that’s a whole other conversation we always have. On that, how much, when, and will they do more after Powell is out? By the way, that’s another thing we’ve heard. We’ve heard the chatter on Powell from the White House really diminish here this past week. It was big last week. Haven’t heard a peep this week. And that’s an area where, Scott, I would say I think the White House, Trump himself, would be very wise to not go after Powell anymore, just leave it alone.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, I think you’re very right. I basically think, I would think somebody went to Trump and just said, look, the guy’s got four months left on this job. Just leave it alone. Yeah. What we talked about, I believe it was last week.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 17 :
So we were saying he’s not going to do himself any favors because some of the Republican senators said, hey, look, if you do this, we’re not going to vote for whoever you want to put in. So, yeah, it’s better. Leave it alone. get the next guy in, and then that guy can start cutting rates. Right now, Wall Street expects the next rate cut in June. I wouldn’t be surprised by that at all. And I wouldn’t be surprised. There’s potential that if inflation keeps slowing the way it’s shown, if it’s running at 0.2% a month, on a CPI basis, by the time we get the February numbers, which will be in March, you can see CPI annualized inflation at 2%. That’s the Fed’s goal. You know… Then you start to ask yourself, well, wait a second. If we’re seeing all this employment data has been weak and inflation is at 2%, why aren’t you cutting now? So there’s potential they could start cutting before Powell leaves.
SPEAKER 09 :
Interesting. And you know what? I wouldn’t be surprised at that. And by the way, I think that’s going to go against the grain of what Powell wants, but I think it’s going to happen anyways.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s against the grain of what he wants, but I think. If you get to 2%, you’re going to have a hard time saying we’re not cutting rates.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right, gold, silver, all that’s still high. What are your thoughts on all of that? I’ll close with that.
SPEAKER 17 :
You know, I’m a fan of having, you know, like a 5% position in your portfolio. If it goes to zero, it’s not going to kill you. But if it keeps going up, you know, you’re going to do well. Just let it be.

This was news earlier today that some of you may have seen or not seen. I was going to ask Scott about this, but honor his time with everything he’s got going on with snow and cold and so on. I wanted to not take as much of his time as I even sometimes normally would. But Trump is moving. to block Wall Street, so Wall Street investors, from buying single-family homes in a sweeping executive order. Now, this one will probably be challenged. Will he win this executive order or not? I don’t know. I can’t think of other precedences where there might be other things that the courts could use to say, yeah, we’ve done this, or yes, we’ve done that. I don’t know. I tried to think of things that would be of a similar example. In this one, I’ll just be straight up honest with you. I get where he’s coming from. He doesn’t want big investors to be able to come in and buy up blocks of neighborhoods and then those houses typically are owned by an investor and then they’re rented back out and so on. Although, again, I struggle with this one because I understand where he’s going with this and I respect President Trump greatly. I talked about that a minute ago when it comes to Greenland. But I’m not sure I would do this. And let me explain. For a lot of folks out there that hate the big investors when they come in and they buy up properties and so on because a lot of them feel like they do that and it raises the price and so on and off we go. Well, that’s not always true because the housing market always adjusts whether those big investors are there or not because the market is far bigger than what any of these investment groups would ever think they could be. Reality is the market itself, the housing market itself is still larger than they are. So it always adjusts anyways. So I don’t worry about that side of things. And maybe some of you can correct me and school me and tell me that I’m wrong, but I don’t get worried about that. I also know that there are a certain amount of people, and some choose to do this, whereby they want to rent. They don’t want to own. And there’s a market for renters. Some, it’s because of recent financial issues. It could be divorce. It could be that I know of a couple right now that just got done selling their home. They’re older, and they don’t want to move back into another house. They want to rent. And there’s all sorts of things that happen when it comes to people renting. And so there’s a market for that as well. And in some cases, there’s not enough of them around, and that pushes up prices. So again, while I’m not against Trump in this, I understand his motive. I just don’t know when it’s all said and done if this is the right way to handle this. In other words, stopping people from buying homes, I don’t think, you know, stopping corporations, I should say, from buying homes, I don’t think that’s an answer. Jim, go ahead. We’ve got a couple of minutes.

Yeah. Hey, you know what? I’m with you. I mean, I don’t like it. I don’t like it. I don’t. It’s hard because, as you know, I’m kind of I’m a real estate broker as well. And there was some times in during COVID especially where these corporations were coming in. they were paying over asking price cash close in two weeks.

Right. Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
So you couldn’t, you couldn’t compete with that.
SPEAKER 09 :
That’s right. That’s exactly right, Jim.
SPEAKER 04 :
Now, now mainly they buy new homes and in new neighborhoods and then they rent them out. They were doing that the other way. It’s I’m, I’m a capitalist. I, I, I, you know, I, I, I want to support that, but it did have some problems. Now that being said, it’s only 1.5% to 2% of the market. Right. So it’s not a huge deal. Thank you.

You’re backing up what I just said a moment ago. It’s not as big of a deal as even sometimes we as conservatives make it out to be.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s not. It’s not going to turn the page. That’s right. It’s an affordability issue. It’s not them. But I’m very conflicted on this point.
SPEAKER 09 :
No, I am as well. When I read that this morning, and I appreciate you calling, Jim, especially somebody in the industry itself. I appreciate that greatly because I like you. I’m kind of conflicting. I love Donald Trump. I love what he does. I’m not questioning him. I just wonder sometimes the motivation, and I get his motivation. It’s to try to keep affordability down and not have happen what you just explained a moment ago. But also at the flip side, and you know this as well, there are those individuals out there that need to rent a place, and if there’s not enough, then rents go up because there’s not enough competition. So it’s kind of a catch-22, Jim.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, and you know – Are you there? Yeah, I’m listening. Nope, you’re fine. I’m sorry. You know, it is… People… I want to sell houses, but people don’t need to buy houses unless they’re ready to buy houses, right? Right. And there’s a lot of expenses to own in a home, as you well know.
SPEAKER 09 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s not just the mortgage. But, yeah, this… I did… There were some clients that affected because we put in offers, but it ended up being a corporation buying it and stuff. So it could be bad both ways.
SPEAKER 09 :

And I kind of had a feeling this one would be similar to what others of you listening would be similar to me on this. It is. It’s a catch-22. And, again, I’m not questioning Donald Trump in this, but I, again – Do you want to mess with the market in this way? Do you want to set a precedence even where you’re telling certain corporations what they can and cannot buy? In other words, government telling corporations what they can and cannot do.
