WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – Britain’s King Charles III has told the U.S. Congress that despite an age of uncertainty and conflict in Europe and the Middle East, the United Kingdom and the United States remain united in defending democracy.

“Whatever our differences, whatever disagreements we may have, we stand united in our commitment to uphold democracy, to protect all our people from harm, and to salute the courage of those who daily risk their lives in the service of our countries,” he said in a rare address to a joint meeting of lawmakers, after receiving a prolonged standing ovation upon entering with Queen Camilla.

His remarks came amid reported tensions between Washington and Britain over Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s reluctance to commit British military forces to the U.S.-Israel conflict with Iran.

The monarch also reflected on shared security commitments, recalling the September 11, 2001, attacks and the invocation of NATO’s Article 5 collective defense clause.

He noted that the alliance demonstrated that “an attack on one is an attack on all,” underscoring the enduring importance of transatlantic unity in times of crisis.

WHITE HOUSE DINNER

At a White House state dinner hosted by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, Charles struck a lighter tone, drawing laughter with a historical reference to Britain’s past role in Washington and planned changes to the White House, including a proposed ballroom project.

He told the president that he “cannot help noticing” changes to the East Wing, adding: “I’m sorry to say that we British, of course, made our own small attempt at real estate development of the White House in 1814,” referring to when British troops burned the building during the War of 1812.

The visit underscored the ceremonial and diplomatic nature of the transatlantic relationship, with Charles emphasizing shared values while avoiding direct political commentary.

His trip came days after Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima also stayed at the White House, highlighting a series of high-level royal engagements in Washington.
