Denver Native, American Hero (Matthew Wagner’s Story)

Chief Petty Officer Matthew Wagner, a Colorado native, has served our country for over 13 years. Petty Officer Wagner serves in the US Navy as a hospital corpsman and is a part of the Navy Medicine Readiness Training Unit in Bangor, Washington. Through the Navy Medicine Readiness Training Unit, Officer Wanger has provided extraordinary medical and dental care for active-duty members in all military branches.

Petty Officer Wagner is a graduate of Denver High School, he credits his hometown for developing him into the man he is today. In an interview Petty Officer Wagner said of Denver, “I credit my hometown with giving me a good education and a close-knit community that wants you to succeed.”

Petty Officer Wagner carries his family’s military legacy; grandfather served in the Navy during World War II. He is grateful for the love and support he has received from his family. Petty Officer Wagner stated, “My parents, Lloyd and Wanda, have been there every step of the way and I’m grateful for their support. I also want to thank my wife, Eliana, for being my support. She’s the reason I’m here. I’m grateful for my son, Kaiden, who is the funniest little dude. He makes it easy to wake up and come do this job every day.” 

Petty Officer Wagner said he joined the Navy, “To have the opportunity to serve my country and see the world” and he has achieved both. By traveling around the world, Petty Officer Wagner and his unit have provided important care for our troops serving other seas. The Navy Medicine Readiness Training Unit serves as a reminder that troops all over the world are not forgotten and America thanks them for their service. Petty Officer Wagner remarked about his overseas tours, “Being able to see other countries has given me a greater appreciation for our country.” Through Officer Wagner military duty, he has displayed a servant’s heart for his country and his fellow soldiers. 

Petty Officer Wagner is grateful for the opportunities the Navy has given him in his over 13 years of service. “The Navy is important to me because I get to play a role in making America the great country it is.” 

Thank Chief Petty Officer Wagner and your unit in Bangor, Washington for serving your country and fellow soldiers. Thank you for representing what it means to be an American hero.
