It’s finally Friday on Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. So I tell him I’m a pro jack. And who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama himself. So we finish 18, and he’s going to sniff me. And I say, hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know? And he says, oh, it won’t be any money. But when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness. So I got that going on.
SPEAKER 12 :
and movie reviews with andy payne i think you got the wrong impression about me i think in all fairness i should explain to you exactly what it is that i do what i do have are a very particular set of skills skills i’ve acquired over a very long career skills that make me a nightmare for people like you
SPEAKER 02 :
What do you want to do tonight?
SPEAKER 08 :
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world. Stick a fork in me, Jerry. I’m done.
SPEAKER 10 :
Now, here is your host of Rush to Reason, John Rush.
SPEAKER 06 :
All right, we are ready for this Friday edition Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Myself, Andy Pate, Charlie Grimes. Yes, we are live in the studio. I had somebody during the last program, Ready Radio, ask if we were here, if Crawford Broadcasting in Denver was open because a lot of other places in town, I guess, are not. But, yeah, we’re here.
SPEAKER 10 :
Why are they not? I’m sorry, but I drove in. The roads weren’t that bad.
SPEAKER 06 :
Beats me. Not bad at all.
SPEAKER 10 :
This is such a weird snowstorm. I mean, it doesn’t come down heavy at all. It’s like four days of snow settling from the sky.
SPEAKER 06 :
There are people that live in certain areas that have gotten a lot of snow. I talked to some of them. I’ve gotten some text messages in from some folks that have been literally buried, snowed in, and so on. And it is going to get worse as the day goes on here. And as we get closer to this evening, it’s going to start coming down a little heavier.
SPEAKER 10 :
Where’s it hit the worst?
SPEAKER 06 :
South right now. South. Okay. Well, south and north. Actually, north end of town. I was up north earlier today, and it was much worse up north than it is down here where we are down south.
SPEAKER 10 :
Uh-oh, we’re in the eye of the storm.
SPEAKER 06 :
So it just kind of depends on where you’re at today, I believe. So anyways, all right, you got something you wanted to play?
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, yes. This has gone viral, and it’s just over a minute and a half. And it is, this is from Rumble. It’s a smug liberal. And this lady posted this. The day of the election, the results had not started pouring in yet.
SPEAKER 06 :
The day of.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
All right, here we go.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, so we’re closing in on almost 5 p.m. Eastern time, and I’ve been tracking everything that’s been going on across the country today. And my most important encounter was when I went out.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, she’s been tracking everything going on, which means she hasn’t tracked anything. It’s 5 o’clock Eastern time. Nothing’s happened.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, just stuff. Yeah, I don’t know what she’s tracking.
SPEAKER 06 :
I have no idea what she’s talking about with what she’s tracking. There’s no results yet.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. So this is before the results start really pouring in.
SPEAKER 06 :
Don’t comment she made, by the way. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 10 :
I know. Oh, it gets better.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 17 :
Most important encounter. Because when I went out to get my champagne, I was talking to the guy in the store, of course, asking him, did he vote? And he said he did early voting. And he asked me if I early voted. And he asked me, you know, why I was getting the champagne. And I said, because I’m going to be toasting Madam President tonight. And he just looked at me with kind of like a smirk on his face. And I said, you know, she’s going to win this, right? And he says, oh, well, it’s very, very close. And I said, no, it’s not. He says, well, what do you mean? I said, no, it’s not. The women of America are making their voices heard. Reproductive rights is what it all comes down to. And the women are voting in numbers relative to men that are unbelievable. She’s won this. I said to him, she’s going to win this.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, really quick here. Women were voting in much larger numbers at that point. And by the way, it held up fairly well. They still were a majority. However, I don’t know if you know this, Trump cut in to their numbers by 2%.
SPEAKER 17 :
versus how he did before so actually they didn’t uh it wasn’t as big a deal as this lady thought continuing on ball she’s won this and i said to him she’s going to take every one of the swing states plus plus iowa he said oh but the numbers are so close i said i’m a political analyst i’m telling you right now numbers are there she’s taking this election And then I said to him, you realize, and he didn’t tell me who he voted for, but of course I knew. And I said, you do realize you wasted your vote, right? And I didn’t care. I walked out with my bottle of champagne and happily walked home. Bye-bye.
SPEAKER 06 :
Is there a follow-up to this, by the way? There was. From her, I mean.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, I don’t have it in front of me.
SPEAKER 06 :
And she said.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, she was furious that, you know, America hates women and America’s bigoted and all this kind of stuff.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m tired of hearing that, by the way.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, yeah. Well, did you see my post I put out this morning?
SPEAKER 06 :
I haven’t seen it yet.
SPEAKER 10 :
Long story short, I said, look, two candidates lost to Donald Trump. OK, Biden first and then Kamala. But on the left, the Democrats, when Biden lost, they blamed him. Of course, he was too old. He was, you know, senile and all that was true. But when Kamala lost, they blamed everyone else. They blamed America for being racist and sexist. And I said, you know, this is how they go. If a white male Democrat loses, they blame the candidate. If a black male candidate loses, they say America’s racist. If a woman candidate loses, they say America’s sexist. If a black woman candidate loses, they say America is racist and sexist. And it was just like, look, the only group in their ranks that they hold to any standards… They expect absolutely nothing of everybody else. Because you know what, John? They don’t think much of women, and they don’t think much of people of color. And by the way, there’s another really interesting thing. I don’t know if you’ve seen this. A lot of, I guess, liberals are now checking into places where they can move to leave the country.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I saw that. I did see that.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, what are the top two places?
SPEAKER 06 :
Canada and New Zealand, I want to say.
SPEAKER 10 :
New Zealand. Okay, so think about this for a moment. All these wonderfully tolerant and diverse people who love diversity and love to be around diverse crowds and say that we, we Republicans, are just a big white fest. What are the two places again? Help me out here.
SPEAKER 06 :
Where are they going? Canada and New Zealand.
SPEAKER 10 :
Canada and New Zealand, two of the whitest places on earth.
SPEAKER 06 :
Pretty much.
SPEAKER 10 :
And that’s where they want to go.
SPEAKER 06 :
Pretty much.
SPEAKER 10 :
I’m telling you what, the Democrat Party is full of crap.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, they’re full of a bunch of hypocrite liars.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, they are. I mean, they’re full of people like Al Gore who buy oceanfront property and then tell us that the water is going to go up 20 feet. This is what they’re full of. Folks, they are lying to you about everything they say. They only want one thing. The reason that they’ve been crying and sobbing on air across all the airwaves is one reason. They wanted to control you, and now they can’t. They don’t care about your life.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I was going to say, they don’t care about anyone, including even their own party, evidently, because they botched this one big time.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. Another post I put out, they lost the working class. That’s why they lost this election.
SPEAKER 06 :
Andy, they didn’t lose them. They drove them away. They pushed them away. That’s right. They drove them out.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, think about it, John. That party, over just the last few years, imported millions and millions of cheap, illegal workers to replace the working class. Correct. So why would the working class not resent that?
SPEAKER 06 :
They do.
SPEAKER 10 :
They… The Democrats hate the working class. They resent the working class. They look down on the working class. The only demographic where she increased in her votes over Biden was rich people.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. That’s it. I talked about that yesterday. It’s the only place she improved. Other than that, she didn’t improve anywhere.
SPEAKER 10 :
Wine-sipping elitists.
SPEAKER 06 :
Nothing against wine, but I’m just saying. That have lost complete touch with reality.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
They have no idea, Andy, what reality is. Right. They literally have forgotten it.
SPEAKER 10 :
Meanwhile, Elon Musk is wearing t-shirts and Donald Trump is watching MMA. Right. They don’t get it.
SPEAKER 06 :
They do not get it. Like I said, Andy, they are completely clueless, out of touch, have no idea what’s going on. They’ll blame this on everything else other than what they should. They will not look internally. We’ll talk more about this on Tuesday in regards to what should their strategy, along with our own, be moving forward. Just as a side note, for all of you that are maybe gloating a little bit, and rightfully so, you guys did a great job. You got Donald Trump elected. We helped. We all are in this together, and we have the right person that we elected, and I’m very proud of that, and I’m very glad for that. On the same token, it’s like any other win, Andy. What does a winning Super Bowl team do immediately after coming home from the win? Start on the next one, right? If they’re smart. If they’re smart. If they’re not, they’re going to lose the next one. The smart teams come home, the coaches especially, and immediately start working on next season. They don’t gloat in the win. They realize how much work they now have to do to stay on top, right?
SPEAKER 10 :
Right, and there are so many things we can do. If we handle this right, John, oh, man, 2026 could be great.
SPEAKER 06 :
We could control things for the next 12 years, Andy. Absolutely. Easily, or 16 even if we do it correctly. Yep. I’m not joking when I say that. If we do things correctly, we literally could go that long. We really could. So, again, we’ll talk more about that on Tuesday. And also, I will say this before we go to break.
SPEAKER 10 :
Really quick, John, wasn’t she awful, though?
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, one of the worst candidates you could go with. That lady or Kamala?
SPEAKER 10 :
Obviously Kamala. But that lady represents the way the Democrat Party – the reason this has gone viral. This is how that party looks at the working man and woman.
SPEAKER 06 :
And furthermore, she claims to be a political strategist, and she’s not. Not a good one. She’s a political strategist. She is absolutely awful. I mean, Andy, you and I are. We talk about these things on a daily basis. And I think we were very realistic Tuesday going into it saying, hey, you know, this thing’s still 50-50. Yeah, I’ll go ahead and call it. I had no idea that we were going to be as far on our side as we were when it was all said and done. No, I did not pick that. And quite frankly, folks, before any of you start saying, well, we did. No, you didn’t. Well, not many did. No one did, Andy. I mean, there’s very, very few folks on our side that predicted a over 300 electoral college votes.
SPEAKER 10 :
I’m going to give it to Rasmussen. They did. They called it to the letter. And real clear politics, you know, people say, well, the polls really undercounted Trump voters. Actually, not by much. Real clear at the end. had him at plus .6, he’s going to wind up winning by about 1% to 1.5% more than that. That’s it.
SPEAKER 06 :
They did a pretty good job. That’s pretty accurate then. So at the end of the day, realistically, what I really was trying to say was don’t gloat too much. Get to work. Yeah, be careful of that. You can gloat a little bit. That’s fine. But realistically, by Monday, and I’m not exaggerating when I say this, by Monday we get back to work. There’s a lot of things that need to get done. The Trump administration knows that. They’re already assembling things and getting things going. Trump knows what we’re talking about. He is by no means sitting back and relaxing and celebrating. He is onward we go because we have a lot of work to do in the next four years. especially two. Keep that in mind. It really is two and two is how you break up a presidential term, because in 2026, things could change if you don’t get enough done these first two years. Oh, yes. Correct? Yes. So keep that in mind as well, folks. There’s no guarantees that things will go well for four years if you don’t get the first two years handled.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
So we’ll get into more of that on Tuesday. We’ll come back, do movies. We’ve got The Carpenter and small things like these. Hi-Fi Plumbing is next. If you’ve got any plumbing problems at all right now with the weather that we’ve got going on, don’t forget they do electrical as well. 877-WE-HIGH-5.

SPEAKER 03 :
Suck it up, buttercup. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 10 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John. Are you ready for a movie?
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 10 :
It’s Friday. John, I don’t know if you noticed, two crowds just won an election. The MMA crowd just won an election. They did, right? I mean, they churned out for Trump, but also the church. Did you notice how Catholics broke for Trump? Yes. Over 15%. That’s awesome. Yeah, it was great. Well, anyway, these two crowds come together in The Carpenter.
SPEAKER 1 :
Name?
SPEAKER 12 :
Warren. Where are you from?
SPEAKER 08 :
Cana.
SPEAKER 16 :
You don’t look like you’re from Cana.
SPEAKER 08 :
I don’t know where I’m from.
SPEAKER 18 :
You have to weaken them all and you win the fight. You cannot fight only with your fists. You must use this organ, too.
SPEAKER 05 :
You’re gonna be Shara’s champion fighter. Just don’t lose focus. Use whatever time you have to train and heal. Take him out!
SPEAKER 08 :
No distractions.
SPEAKER 07 :
What do you do for work?
SPEAKER 08 :
I’m an apprentice.
SPEAKER 07 :
For who?
SPEAKER 08 :
Come, follow me.
SPEAKER 14 :
You think it’s true what people say about him? He’s not like anyone I’ve ever worked with. Is this carpenter paying you?
SPEAKER 08 :
He takes care of what I need. There are many good life lessons to be learned from sport. If this is your gift, can you cultivate it to positively affect those around you? To let your light shine. Traditional invitational. 400 denarii. None of this is ours. If you don’t keep fighting for that money, I will jump in the fight.
SPEAKER 10 :
You really enjoy it?
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s not just the fight. It’s training. Walking out of each fight knowing that I defeated whatever they put in front of me.
SPEAKER 02 :
You are aware of his miracles?
SPEAKER 08 :
He’s a carpenter. Son of a carpenter.
SPEAKER 14 :
No. Look further.
SPEAKER 08 :
So why help me? I’m nobody. You’re somebody to me.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, John, what do you think? Sounds good. All right, well, John, it’s a couple thousand years ago, and a young man named Oren, he’s played by Cameron Krebs, he’s fighting for sport in front of a bunch of people who bet on fights. That happened back then, too.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
It really did. His brother Levi is his handler. Oren should have said, cut me, Levi. It was just kind of fun watching Levi work with him in the corner. It was just like a boxing match. Well, things go well. So a Roman sentry suggests Orin move up to fighting in Nazareth. I shouldn’t have said anything. I mean, what’s the first rule of biblical times? Fight club.
SPEAKER 06 :
Never talk about fight club. That’s right. You don’t talk about it.
SPEAKER 10 :
But anyway, you just can’t fight. You need a job, right? I mean, you can’t just go there and fight. It’s kind of hard to make a living just doing that. So… In Nazareth, Oren becomes an apprentice to a carpenter named Yeshua. Great guy, good boss, never sins.
SPEAKER 06 :
I can imagine.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, really good guy.
SPEAKER 06 :
With a name like that, yeah.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. Well, Oren is rising up the fighting circuit while also working for the carpenter and learning some life lessons along the way. Oh, and Oren also has a love interest named Mira. No, not the one from Aquaman, but Mira. I really liked her in this movie. Well, the gladiator-style fights are tough, and Orn must improve to match better fighters. Now, it’s gladiator, but without the swords, right? Very, very MMA style, totally MMA. Well, he’s determined, but clearly the carpenter is a man of peace, but he also values sport. I found it interesting the carpenter had no problem with the fact that he was a fighter. He saw value in that. But can Orin learn the greatest lessons while fighting for his future? And that is the story of The Carpenter. What do you think?
SPEAKER 06 :
Doesn’t sound bad.
SPEAKER 10 :
All right.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, what works in… Interesting twist.
SPEAKER 10 :
A very interesting twist. I’ve never seen anything like this. Well, what works in The Carpenter? First of all, what if Jesus was your boss? What would he be like? I mean, is it all just sermons and lectures, or would he also have a sense of humor? Might he even be a little bit of a matchmaker? This new take on Jesus was kind of fun. I enjoyed it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, frankly, not to get off on a side note here, but I think the majority of Christendom has Jesus depicted completely the wrong way. Jesus was, and is, because he wasn’t was, he still is, the ultimate man’s man, Andy.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
He was a man and is a man’s man. So these depictions of him being some sort of meek and mild and little wimpy wussy Jesus Christ, yeah, no, that’s not what he was. Not even close, Andy, in my opinion.
SPEAKER 10 :
John, a lot of that comes from our modern American and really inaccurate assumption that manhood makes you less sensitive and less compassionate.
SPEAKER 06 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 10 :
That’s ludicrous.
SPEAKER 06 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 10 :
I think weak people are insensitive and not compassionate. People like that lady we played earlier. Well, furthermore— Vicious people who look down on others and don’t care, man or female. That doesn’t make you masculine.
SPEAKER 06 :
And for those of you that maybe don’t believe me, Christ and his disciples, who many were fishermen, which at that time— Still is, by the way, one of the hardest man’s man’s job you could ever do. It’s like deadliest catch, Andy, only in Galilee. Reality is they were men’s men and Jesus Christ was as well.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, that gets to the next thing I was going to say I liked seeing. I liked seeing Jesus with strong arms. Yeah, thank you. He had biceps. He had guns. And now that made perfect sense. That’s a carpenter for you. Does anybody understand? He wasn’t using modern tools for carpentry.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, and even with modern tools today, Andy, how many carpenters do you know don’t have guns?
SPEAKER 10 :
Carpenters generally have guns.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 10 :
But back then they…
SPEAKER 06 :
Had to. Correct. There wasn’t a power saw.
SPEAKER 10 :
No. Okay. I’m telling you what. Back then, if you were a carpenter, you were pretty ripped. And Jesus was a carpenter. Remember, his ministry didn’t begin until he was around 30. That’s right. Okay. So he had been doing carpentry for a long time. I had never seen him depicted. Like you said, a lot of times he’s depicted with these thin little arms and he’s wimpy and whatever. Kind of girlish in a way. Yeah, almost. And not this movie.
SPEAKER 06 :
Good. That part I like.
SPEAKER 10 :
You kidding? He’s a carpenter.
SPEAKER 06 :
Awesome.
SPEAKER 10 :
All right. Okay. Now the fight scenes. They were actually pretty good. Nice action. Not great. Okay, this wasn’t Gladiator, but they were pretty good. I enjoyed them. The treatment of Jesus was respectful, if not historical. Okay. I mean, this isn’t history, obviously.
SPEAKER 06 :
This is not the New Testament.
SPEAKER 10 :
This is a what if.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 10 :
And I liked it.
SPEAKER 06 :
This is a read between the chapters, right?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. And I also liked that they would talk about, okay, here are some better ways you can fight. Here are some things you can do. And there were strategy in it. I liked that.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
What I really liked was how Jesus showed such interest in Oren’s potential. A lot of non-Christians think Christianity just makes you another drone in the Christian army and everybody acts the same. Not true. Everyone’s special. And Jesus looked at Oren and saw his personal potential, what he could be as Oren. Not that he could be like everyone else.
SPEAKER 06 :
Nice.
SPEAKER 10 :
One last thing, the Christians in the theater, they really appreciated the message. Well, of course they did. They always do. But that was nice. Okay, what doesn’t work in The Carpenter? Too much modern lingo, first of all. Now, I understand. It was for fun. They were transporting today’s MMA back to then, and they were keeping a lot of the lingo so you could relate to it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Makes sense.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
I just think that they at times overdid too much modern lingo threaded throughout the script.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah. But in their day, they would have had their own modern lingo.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
So I guess it’s fitting if you think of it that way.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. And honestly, it wasn’t something that really bothered me. Although at times I did roll my eyes a few times, but no, Not bad. Next. The pace of the story unfortunately slows multiple times. They should have kept it moving. This could have been at least 10 to 12 minutes shorter and not really cutting out any total scenes, but instead moving it more quickly between the scenes because you’re going back and forth between the fighting scenes, learning from Jesus, fighting, learning from Jesus, fighting, learning from Jesus. Do it quicker. And it would have been much better. You could tell that the people who directed this, in my opinion, probably haven’t done a lot of directing. All right. All right. The acting and dialogue, like I said, are fairly low grade. This wasn’t a masterpiece. It really wasn’t. Tons of wisdom, and that was nice, but I’m telling you, this just wasn’t high grade. There was very little conflict here. Now, this was a real problem. The romance was way too easy. It was. The lessons from Jesus, they were too easy. They flowed too easily, too easy to understand. I like it when Jesus would really challenge the disciples, right, and throw them off their game. he didn’t do that here the training scenes were okay but sporadic you needed a cool montage right the training montage like with rocky or that would have been better okay more suffering at the hands of centurions would have added some interest this just flowed along it just flowed along ultimately you just never had a real feeling of oh my gosh what’s going to happen and you need that That was missing from the carpenter. Okay, Rotten Tomatoes gave too few people review to have a score. So I got nothing. Okay. Quality. I’m going to give it on sheer quality, two stars. There was a number of things that I enjoyed in it that I liked in it, but it was not a high quality movie. Political three. Didn’t say a thing more religious five, obviously not four, but five. The messaging was wonderful. It was warm. It was family friendly. And I just liked the idea that it took fighting and it didn’t, I’m sorry, but a lot of Christian films almost look at fighting as evil.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 10 :
And this did not. This looked at fighting and said, no, no, no, it’s a sport. It’s a skill.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 10 :
It’s great.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 10 :
I like that. So do I recommend going to The Carpenter? If you want that kind of movie, why not? But I wouldn’t expect the greatest quality.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. Veteran Windows and Doors is next. You may be noticing right now that you’ve got things with either you don’t like. Give Dave Bancroft a call today. 35% off is the starting deal. Veteran Windows and Doors. Find them at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 18 :
Veteran Windows and Doors challenge you to ask every window and door salesperson about the ratings of their windows and doors. Owner Dave Bancroft knows other window and door companies are trained only to sell, not on whether their windows are even engineered for your home. Dave has an app where he can show you the exact door the other company showed you, but Dave will also include the correct efficiency ratings and codes necessary for your home. The other companies’ doors often don’t meet code, energy-efficient ratings, or give you crucial tax credits on your products. Also, Veterans installation methods are far stricter than other companies. They do more flashing, sealing, and installation than is required to ensure your windows and doors are going to work the way they’re supposed to. And Veteran now offers financing. Get 40% off and free installation when working with Veteran windows and doors by going to klzradio.com.

Now, back to Rush to Reason, presented by Hi-5 Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling, where every call ends with a high five.
SPEAKER 10 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate, and John! Are you ready for another movie? Absolutely. Okay, John, we just had good religion. Are you ready for some bad religion? Sure, why not?
SPEAKER 06 :
Always.
SPEAKER 10 :
Because not everyone in the church is good, are they? No, you were right about that. I am right about that. Okay, how much would you risk to right a wrong? Well, the stakes are real in small things like these.
SPEAKER 09 :
Hi, Dad. Come on, now, finish up your toast before it gets cold.
SPEAKER 16 :
Stop it! Stop it, please! No!
SPEAKER 09 :
I’m not going in there! I am not!
SPEAKER 01 :
Stop it!
SPEAKER 09 :
Daddy!
SPEAKER 02 :
I will live in the past, the present and the future. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach. You’d want to watch what you’d say about what’s there. People can make things difficult for you.
SPEAKER 07 :
The Lord is compassionate in love, slow to anger and rich in mercy. The Lord is compassionate in love. Now, don’t be thinking you’re in any trouble.
SPEAKER 08 :
If you want to get on in this life, there are things you have
SPEAKER 10 :
All right, John, it is Ireland in the 1980s and Cillian Murphy from Oppenheimer. I like you, don’t you? I’ve always liked him. Well, anyway, he stars as Bill Furlong, a simple man who makes a simple living hauling bags of coal to various homes and businesses. Well, John, this is grueling work and it shows. As Bill digs and hauls, you see a man working long hours and buckling over physically. His arched back shows years of burden. By the end of each day, Bill is so exhausted he can barely move. But he loves his wife and four daughters, so each night he scrubs off the coal and recovers with them watching TV. But one of the places where Bill delivers coal is a nearby Catholic convent. One day on his delivery there, Bill witnesses a teenage girl you heard in the preview there screaming and fighting against her mother and a nun, begging not to be taken inside. Bill watches as she’s dragged in. Well, it turns out the nunnery is one of the infamous Magdalene laundries. These really existed, John. They were there for, I don’t know if it was 80, 100 years. I’m not sure how long, but many years. Where troubled girls, that’s what they’d call them, were used for cheap labor. Most of these girls were pregnant and single, which meant that they had to be hidden away, and the convent basically owned them. It was really terrible, too, because they would finally have their babies. The babies would be taken from them and placed. And then the girls are still there because they are now damaged women, and they use them for cheap labor. There’s real history here, though. And I’m not sure how accurate this film depicts it, because I just don’t know. But at any rate, Bill starts to realize a chamber of horrors exists behind those convent walls. Think of being a sinner, John, completely at the mercy of a group of pious nuns who despise you. They despise you. You’re pregnant because you’ve enjoyed the one pleasure they deny themselves. And because you’re a social outcast, they can profit off your suffering. And profit they did. Wow. Well, what can Bill do? Blow the whistle? His entire life with his family depends on the trust of his clients, right? I mean, think about that for a moment. Are you going to blow the whistle on your biggest client?
SPEAKER 06 :
Probably not.
SPEAKER 10 :
What are all your other clients going to do? And by the way, in that area in the town, a lot of people kind of had an idea. Okay, these girls go in there and then they don’t see them. Right. And these girls are terrified and everybody would just kind of look away. And that was his wife in the preview saying sometimes you just got to look away. But the thing is, Bill is a guy who has an enormous heart. He’s just a simple man. He’s not some brilliant crusader. All right. This is not J.D. Vance. All right. This is just a guy who is just a simple man seeing something that is breaking his heart. And I guess it makes sense because, first of all, he had a bit of a damage past himself, a rough childhood of neglect. And secondly, he’s got four daughters. So what do you think it’s like for him watching all this?
SPEAKER 06 :
Be hard.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right. And the head nun is a sinister strategist in everything she says and does. So it’s not like Bill would be exposing some clumsy villain. Sister Mary, who’s played by the wonderful Emily Watson, she’s a force. What does Bill do? What would you do? That’s the question of small things like these. What do you think?
SPEAKER 06 :
Interesting movie.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yes. Well, what works in small things like these? Well, let’s get right to the obvious. Cillian Murphy. I think he has now risen up to be a phone book guy.
SPEAKER 06 :
He’s good.
SPEAKER 10 :
I could watch him read a phone book on stage. Well, his quiet, understated performance is perfect. In fact, everyone is perfect in this film, including the frightening Emily Watson. She’s the new Nurse Ratched. I mean, just scary. This church scandal is rarely discussed in the movies. Many graves, by the way, were found. Just so you know. And these places, they were closed in the 80s. This was shut down in the 80s. And I think this is depicted as like the story that exposed them. It’s probably an example of one that did. Got it. The quiet, steady pace highlights the shushed mood of a town looking away from pain. At one point, Bill quietly walks a victim through the town, forcing them all to see what they’ve been ignoring. Not a word is spoken. Not one. It’s very artful and slow for effect. This is gripping. At no point in this movie did I not care about the characters.
SPEAKER 05 :
Hmm.
SPEAKER 10 :
I carried all the way through. OK, what doesn’t work in small things like these? The pacing is too slow. There were a number of points where they could have moved. And I’m not saying action, action, action. I mean, move the pace, move the pace along. You’re showing a little you’re depicting a little bit too much of his daily life, their daily life. And yeah, you’re making it real, but you’re also dragging it out. I mean, think about it, John. Would you really want to watch many people’s daily life? No. No, neither would I. This is a movie moving along a little bit more. They could have, I don’t think, made the movie shorter, but maybe put in some more interesting things and moved it along. Also, some of the strategies aren’t well explained. Bill finds a girl outside a convent in a bed of coal. That’s how he finds her. I mean, that’s where he moves, puts the coal. Well, then she’s caught. Then he finds her there again. So how did she escape twice? That doesn’t make any sense. Okay. These nuns, trust me, they’re on it. They run that place like a lockdown. And I was kind of like, well, how did she do this again? All right. But not a big deal. Not a huge deal. The main thing is this. What you’re watching is a gripping quiet because he’s a very quiet, simple man. What they’re showing is a very simple man exposing a great evil that had grown and gone terribly wrong. Because they had basically entrusted to, there are wonderful nuns, obviously, I’ve known some, okay, but there have also been terrible nuns. And they empowered to these people, people that they would resent young pregnant girls. And basically turn them into cheap labor. Having a simple man be the one to expose this is a terrifying thing. And the question is, is he actually going to do it? And to what degree? Or will he not? Rotten Tomatoes gave this 92%. I’m not going to go that high because I thought it was too slow in its pacing. Now for me… Me personally, it was a four star. For general audiences, I’m not going to go that high. I’m going to give it three. And that’s just for the terrific quality of the acting and the depiction of the story itself. But the pacing was, I think, too slow for most audiences. And I did ask people after that, and that was the vibe I was getting from the audience. People who went to see it, they said, yeah, a little slow. Political three didn’t say a thing. More religious, I’m going to say four. This had an excellent message of good Christians, good people, finally having to face what some bad Christians were doing. Do I recommend going to small things like these? You know, folks, I really do. It’s not often that you get to see this kind of acting. And one more thing I’m going to say. Cillian Murphy was terrific in Oppenheimer. He really was. But this movie was more compact, more easy to follow acting. I thought it was better done. I liked this movie actually a little more than Oppenheimer for me personally.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. Good to know.
SPEAKER 10 :
All right.
SPEAKER 06 :

SPEAKER 06 :
Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560. All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Okay, question of the day yesterday, which I think I forgot to throw out to you all, but it doesn’t matter. You guys see it on social media anyways. On average, coyotes can outpace roadrunners by how many miles an hour? On average, 23 miles an hour. So the old depiction of the cartoon of the roadrunner outrunning the coyote. So Wile E. Coyote actually would have caught the roadrunner.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, so Wiley was just a very out-of-shape coyote.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, he was Acme.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, he was Acme.
SPEAKER 06 :
He was a cheapo. He was Acme-ridden.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, he was a cheapo coyote. He wasn’t the good kind.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, today’s impossible question. Again, answer this on our Facebook page. Name the first airline that offered free in-flight… entertainment name the first airline that offered free in-flight entertainment and it’s not as long ago as you would think keep in mind for the longest of time if you wanted in-flight entertainment you brought your own There wasn’t any. You did whatever. You brought a deck of cards or whatever. You weren’t really, unless you brought your own DVD player or something, you were not watching anything on the plane.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, what was the airline for Tommy Boy? Because he was pretty entertaining when he and Richard did the presentation. He’s a big dumb animal, isn’t he, folks? That was a funny moment.
SPEAKER 06 :
Flying has changed in some ways for the better, in some ways not.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh, most ways not.
SPEAKER 06 :
Because it’s more like a bus with wings.
SPEAKER 10 :
You know, John, we look at what happened in the election and the normals rose up. And I forget who it was. Darn it. It was a Democrat strategist came out, I think, yesterday or today and said… Our party has forgotten how to talk to normal people.
SPEAKER 06 :
They have. The normals. You’re correct. They have.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
He’s right. He or she or whoever that was was right, Andy.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, I think another thing that the normals are quietly getting angrier and angrier about are things like air travel. And what I mean is this. Every time you have to go through… know tsa that is all because largely of one religion on the planet and i’m not saying oh let’s all get you know go after the muslims no i’m just saying that the democrat party has treated them like they’re like every other religion on the planet and yet we have to go through long long lines at the airport all because of them that’s because you’re guilty
SPEAKER 06 :
Before you make it through their little test.
SPEAKER 10 :
I know.
SPEAKER 06 :
Literally, Andy.
SPEAKER 10 :
I mean, it’s just ridiculous.
SPEAKER 06 :
You are guilty before you walk through there.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, I think there are a lot of normals now who are looking at that and just saying, you know, this is ridiculous. I am not a threat.
SPEAKER 06 :
I can’t argue that. Not at all. We’ve got a couple minutes here for a call. Valerie, go ahead.
SPEAKER 14 :
I think it was Continental Airlines.
SPEAKER 06 :
Continental. You are wrong. Oh, dear. That’s a better guess than I had. And let me give you a tip. By the time they started this, I think Continental had already been absorbed by United.
SPEAKER 14 :
Oh, so we’re talking recent.
SPEAKER 06 :
It’s not that long ago. Like I said, in-flight entertainment hasn’t been around as… Well, let me… I’ll help out and give everybody a little bit of a tip. It’s only nine years.
SPEAKER 10 :
Really?
SPEAKER 06 :
Not as long as you think.
SPEAKER 10 :
Oh.
SPEAKER 14 :
United?
SPEAKER 06 :
Nope.
SPEAKER 14 :
Oh, dear. You can tell I don’t buy that much.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, well, and that’s why this is a good question, Valerie, because I think a lot of us feel like it’s been around for a really long time, but the reality, it really isn’t.
SPEAKER 10 :
What’s that one that goes to the Middle East?
SPEAKER 06 :
Emirates?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
It wasn’t them either. It’s not them, okay. And keep in mind, key word here, free. Free in-flight, not paid for in-flight. Because remember, for a while you could do some in-flight stuff, but there was usually a charge for it of some kind.
SPEAKER 10 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
You swiped your card or did something along those lines.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, Valerie had the best guess. I would not have even come close.
SPEAKER 06 :
So good job, Valerie. You guys are getting close. That’s a good guess, though.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, thank you.
SPEAKER 06 :
Valerie, thank you very much. No, that’s good. And, yeah, tip is it’s not as long ago as you would have thought. And, of course, now it’s pretty much free everywhere as long as it works. Sometimes it doesn’t work.
SPEAKER 10 :
Okay, now, but getting back to what I’m saying, don’t you think there are a lot of voters who also look at the Democrat Party after every time they go through an airport and think, you guys are treating us like this should be normal. It shouldn’t be normal. This is ridiculous.
SPEAKER 06 :
I think that’s some of it. I also think just some of the basic… Right.
SPEAKER 10 :
Why are we doing this? We have to jump through all the hoops and do everything right, and then you let people in across the border and give them free food cards.
SPEAKER 06 :
Thank you. We have to follow all the rules. Every time I go through customs, coming back from some overseas place, even Mexico, and I go through customs, the first thing I think about is, I’m doing this. Why doesn’t everybody else have to?
SPEAKER 10 :
Yes. After 9-11, remember, the Democrats came out and the number one concern that they had was that there would be hatred toward Islam. And we’re like, the number one concern should be that 3,000 of our people just got killed.
SPEAKER 06 :
And that we’re safe going forward. Yeah, and that we’re safe going forward. That should be the number one concern. I don’t care what your religion is. That should be the number one concern, to your point. Absolutely. But it’s not. We’ll talk more about that on Tuesday. Okay. Golden Eagle Financial coming up next. SPEAKER 04 :
Live and local, back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 06 :
And we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Next hour. Well, John, what group have you been saying the Democrats totally ignored in this election? All men. Not just young black voters like Obama was yelling at, but all men. They have been treating manhood as toxic.
SPEAKER 10 :
And manhood just rose up. We shouldn’t exist. Right. We shouldn’t exist. So in that light, we decided for our number two, we’re going to do manhood movies. Movies that display manhood.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay. So any parameters?
SPEAKER 10 :
No.
SPEAKER 06 :
Just whatever you like.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, and by the way, a lot of people are going to see manhood differently. It doesn’t have to be that you’re in the ring fighting or out on the battlefield.
SPEAKER 06 :
It can be. I have a few then that will fit some of what we’re talking about then.
SPEAKER 05 :
All right.
SPEAKER 06 :
Perfect. All right. We’ll be back, guys. We’ll do that NFL picks, of course, to begin with. Text us what your favorite movies are. I’ll add them to the list as well. 307-282-22. 307-282-22. Hour 2 is next. Don’t go anywhere. Rush to Reason. Denver’s Afternoon Rush. KLZ 560.
