Join John Rush as he takes a no-holds-barred approach to dissecting Governor Polis’s immigration policies. This episode provides an in-depth examination of the legislative changes in Colorado from 2013 onwards, highlighting the impact on local law enforcement and illegal aliens. Rush challenges the narrative around Colorado’s sanctuary state status by presenting facts and calling out the politics at play, offering his unfiltered perspective on what needs to change for Colorado’s future.
SPEAKER 18 :
This is Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 03 :
You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes.
SPEAKER 18 :
With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 13 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did. Get a job, sir. You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 12 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 05 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind? It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by High Five Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Electric, where every call ends with a high five.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, hour number two. And yes, Polis, Governor Polis, has said publicly, I was going to play the clip, but I’m talking too much and we’re tighter on time today than what I would like, so I’m not going to take time to play. You can go look it up for yourself. I’ll put the link in our show notes. Not a sanctuary state. That’s what Governor Polis says. And this is after Jeff Crank and some others have called for a change to our immigration policies in Colorado. By the way, wasn’t Jeff Crank one of the folks elected in spite of the Colorado GOP? That’s for tomorrow. Andy and I can maybe talk about some of that tomorrow. But let’s go through some of the timeline towards a sanctuary state. Now, I’d have to go back in memory and remember when Polis actually came into office. So he is on the second year… or sorry, the second half of his term. So let’s see, Charlie, going back in time, he was elected in 2022, meaning that he was elected the first time in 2018. Am I thinking correctly? Yes, that would be right, 2018. So as we go through this timeline, think of where 2018 lies in what I’m going to be mentioning here as we go through this timeline. So first, 2013, HB 13-1258, which repealed SB 90, which was a bill back in 06 signed by Bill Owens, which banned sanctuary cities in Colorado at that time. The 2013 bill prevented local law enforcement from cooperating with immigration officials, making sanctuary cities once again possible in Colorado. So that would have been under Hickenlooper. I’m thinking, is that correct, Charlie? Because he was before Polis, right? So that was a Democrat, is my point. That was Hickenlooper. Which, remember, he’ll be running again for his Senate seat in two years. So just remember some of these things, because that was Hickenlooper that signed that one. 2013, Colorado allowed driver’s licenses for illegal aliens, and they increased the scope of that in 2019. Again, now Governor Polis is governor to include ID cards. 2013, the state allowed in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, again, under Hickenlooper. 2019, so now from this point forward, everything else I’m going to say is under polis, okay? So 2019, HB 19-11-24 was signed, preventing local law enforcement cooperation with ICE. This bill included probation in the law, which keeps probation from notifying ICE when a criminal alien is released back into the community. OK, so we have a law in Colorado right now on the books. They cannot communicate. 2020 SB 83 keeps ice out of all courthouses and makes it illegal for ice agents to enter courthouses to arrest illegal aliens. Governor Polis signed that one. 2021, SB 21-199 provides state benefits to illegal aliens. The state estimates 162,000 illegal aliens at that time. It made available state benefits including dental care, mental health counseling, family services. It also expanded eligibility for property tax, rent, and utility subsidies. Did any of you get that, by the way, listening? I didn’t. Charlie, did you? No, neither one of us got that. Okay, again, 2021. SB 21-1054 was signed and passed to allow illegal aliens to get housing assistance. So not only can they get everything I mentioned a moment ago, but then we can assist them with housing on top of that. Your tax dollars, by the way, because government has no money. Always remember that. Government has no money other than what they confiscate from you, the taxpayer. And I use confiscate purposely because that’s what happens. SB 21077, also in 2021, allowed professional credentialing for illegal aliens. In other words, you can be a hairdresser, a massage therapist, tattoo artist, etc., get credentialing under DORA in Colorado, and not be here legally. 2021 established a defense fund with state money called the… Funny, state money. No, with our money is what this should say. It’s called the Immigrant Legal Defense Fund. Now, it’s actually the illegal alien defense fund that we as taxpayers are paying for. Governor Polis signed that again in 2021. 2023, just a year ago. HB 231100 law was signed which stopped immigration detention in county jails. But yet Governor Polis has the gall to come out publicly and say we are not a sanctuary state. I guess I’d like to know what his definition of a sanctuary state is. Every single thing that I’ve read to you that’s happened since about 2013 would give any illegal alien out there plenty of reasons to come to Colorado and hang out. Plenty. And by the way, this is a slap in the face to all of those individual immigrants that came here illegally and went through the proper channels. It’s a slap in the face to all of them. And there are some of them listening, I know, because I have friends that fit that description. But yeah, Governor Polis, he’s trying to convince everybody right now. And this is his chameleon liar approach to things. He likes to go with whatever the actual narrative is at that time. That’s Governor Polis. He definitely doesn’t have any backbone other than he’s a true Marxist. Other than that, he’ll go with whatever the tide, however that’s flowing at that time, that’s what he’s going to go with. That’ll be his narrative. Right now, it’s in his best interest to say that Colorado is not a sanctuary state, but it is. And Governor Polis, you’ve made it that way. You have assisted in that. Because guess what? You could have vetoed any of these things. You could have given marching orders to your party to say, we’re not going down this path. Governor Hickenlooper, who you know and who’s your pal, could have done the same thing, but he didn’t. He opened the door. He actually started it. You finished it. And as a side note, Coloradans, it’s time for a new governor, not just in the way of polis. I mean, we need a Republican governor in Colorado. It’s high time. A change needs to be made. Those of you that are transplants moving in, we need a change. Don’t bring your crappy laws and your crappy politics that you came from California or wherever else from, don’t bring them here. I mean that sincerely. If you’re a transplant from one of those other states that’s very blue, please, stop bringing your crap here. We’re tired of it. At least I am. I’m a native of this state. I’m tired of your politics. I’m tired of the way you’re ruining Colorado. You’re not helping. You’re making it worse. But back to Polis. The guy’s a scumbag. I have no other way to say it. I have no respect for the man whatsoever. He’s a scumbag. He’s a user. Let’s just say it that way. He is a user. Probably a better way for me to say it. He knows how to use people and things to get what he wants when it’s all said and done. And by the way, it’s been that way for him even when he was in the private sector. Even when he was in charge of his family’s business, which is how he got his start, by the way. You can go back and look at his history. And I know a lot about his family history because, again, I’m a Colorado native. And my family actually used to deal with his family in the car business. Decades ago. So, yes, I have some personal history here that most in the state don’t have. And I will tell you straight up, Governor Polis is a user. Go back and see when did he change his name and look at the events surrounding that, by the way, because Polis isn’t his original name. That’s his mom’s maiden name. So go back and if you don’t believe anything I’m saying, even those of you on the left, if you don’t believe what I’m saying, go back and look it up. I’m not lying about anything. I’m not telling you anything that’s not true that you can’t go find and fact check on me. He’s a user. It’s what he does. And he’s used Colorado and the citizenry to get where he wants to go. Now, he comes across as, you know, Mr. Nice Guy, and he can speak Spanish, and he’s going to talk to the immigrants and this, that, and the other, and he’ll do that in his press conferences. He is the biggest fake there is. Fake as a $3 bill. The guy is a user to the max. And it’s high time we started calling him out on this stuff. And that’s what he did this weekend. He’s a user. He’s trying to tell everybody we’re not a sanctuary state. I didn’t have anything to do with this. I didn’t create this. But he did. And his party for sure did. And he’s a part of the party, believe me, through and through. He’ll come at you with, you know, oh, I’m more libertarian minded and, you know, I believe in that end of things and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Again, he’s a user. He does what he needs to do to get where he wants to go at the end of the day. He’s a user. And those of you that are on the left, I would hope you’d start seeing that by now. He’s not even for you. He’s for him. Governor Polis, like Dave Williams, by the way, only does what works for Governor Polis. He didn’t care about anybody else. He is on a mission to the presidency and he’s going to do every single thing he possibly can. That’s why he said this weekend Colorado is not a sanctuary state. He is vying for the presidency. Unfortunately, when somebody like me goes through and says everything that I just said and you go through the timeline, he can’t back that up. And hopefully he’ll get called out on that down the road when he goes to run for president, because I believe at some point he will. He’ll at least throw his hat in the ring. Trust me. Trust me on that one. All right, got to take a break. We’ll come right back. Hi-Fi Plumbing is next. Hi-Fi Plumbing and Electrical. If you’ve got a plumbing issue or an electrical issue, and plumbing means fresh water in or the water going out, and maybe you’ve had some issues during the last storm you need taken care of, please give Hi-Fi a call today, 877-WE-HI-5.
SPEAKER 04 :
High Five Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Electric can install a tankless water heater as soon as today. Tankless water heaters are preferred to tank heaters because they heat the water as you use it, meaning you’ll never run out of hot water again. Tankless water heaters also save you money on energy costs because you’re not constantly heating up that big tank. And because they are so efficient, you will save more money in the long run. High Five customers also enjoy tankless heaters because they take up less physical space in your utility closet or laundry room. These tankless heaters can even add to your home’s resale value. In addition to all these benefits, you can receive incentives and rebates of up to $3,200 from Uncle Sam, so it pays for itself. All right, veteran windows and doors right now, 35% off windows, 45% off doors. Free labor to install them both. Give Dave a call today. Find him at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 10 :
Veteran Windows and Doors never uses gimmicky high-pressure salespeople. In fact, when you work with veterans, you get the owner, Dave Bancroft. Dave will never try to manipulate you or use silly tricks upselling you. Big window companies will show you a heat lamp test that is supposed to impress you. But what does that really tell you about your windows? Other companies omit the pertinent information, and just because the window and door says Provia, it does not mean their products are engineered for Colorado or even anywhere in the U.S. Dave prefers to be the last window and door company you meet with, so he can give you all the information the others fail to reveal. Like the U-Factor, efficiency ratings, and even if it’s ENERGY STAR certified. And of course, don’t forget the tax rebates many people didn’t know they could receive. Just talk to any of Veterans’ previous clients and they will be the first to tell you. Get your high-quality windows and doors without all the gimmicks. Reach Veteran Windows and Doors by going to klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, Bruce Simmons, he’s our reverse mortgage professor. And if you’ve ever thought of a reverse mortgage, but you’ve heard the ins and outs, and you really don’t know how they work, and you’ve heard some horror stories, put all that aside. Call Bruce today. Find out exactly how they work, and you can find him at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 09 :
Your parents still have a mortgage payment weighing on them every month. And our reverse mortgage expert, Bruce Simmons, might be able to help. In many cases, our parents keep paying their mortgage and waiting for the house to finally be paid off when Bruce could potentially get them set up with a reverse mortgage. That would eliminate their principal and interest payment. That can even be true if your parents live in other states where Bruce’s company works, including Florida, Texas, Arizona, and more. A lot of the parents that Bruce works with like to fully involve their families for checks and balances. Bruce will gladly do that too. And Bruce can also set up a line of credit for your parents for emergencies and unexpected expenses. This is a great way to preserve your parents’ independence and keep them in their own home. while reducing the monthly financial burden on their budget and keeping everyone informed. Give your parents their freedom by contacting Bruce Simmons at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 08 :
Putting reason into your afternoon drive, this is John Rush.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Real quick before I move on with some things going on here locally in Colorado, and a lot of you texting in about Governor Polis and agreeing with everything I said. Thank you, by the way. I appreciate the vote of confidence, and I think most of you, at least on our side of the aisle, know exactly who Governor Polis is and what he tries to get done. who he’s in it for, by the way. But don’t forget, tomorrow, Stop the Gun Ban Rally will be at the Capitol, 1.30 on tomorrow. So it starts at 1.30 and then goes on. It’s in relation to Senate Bill 25-003. If you want more info, just go to WeTheSecond.com. WeTheSecond.com, and that is for tomorrow. Joe, what’s going on?
SPEAKER 15 :
John, just a contrast between Trump’s deportations and Biden. By the way, If you return somebody to their home country, isn’t that a repatriation, not a deportation?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, that would make more sense. Because you can just deport them out, period, and then go wherever they want to. In that case, yes, you’re right.
SPEAKER 15 :
No, no, but we’re setting them back to their home. When Hamas releases Israeli citizens back to Israel, they are repatriating those Israeli hostages, those people being detained.
SPEAKER 07 :
They’re not just deporting them.
SPEAKER 15 :
They’re right. They’re not being deported. So we’re just repatriating them. But I wanted to point out a difference. In the last year, the Biden administration, do you know how many deportations per day were taking place under Biden?
SPEAKER 07 :
I haven’t looked, Joe. No idea.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, it was 271,000 for the year, which is 750 a day. Now, granted, most of them were right at the border. They would apprehend these people, bone process them, fingerprint them, and they’d put them right back over. But Biden… Biden administration was was shipping people back by air back to home countries. I guess the difference is they did it very low key. And, you know, I guess they didn’t want to advertise the fact that we’re sending people home. But but nobody protested when Biden did it because they didn’t advertise the fact.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. Good point.
SPEAKER 15 :
But, yeah, Biden was doing 750 deportations per day now.
SPEAKER 07 :
At the same time, they were letting – so, yeah, they were – Deporting some but allowing thousands more in each day.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, they were deporting 270,000 a year but letting 2 million a year come in. So a net increase of 1.75 million. By the way, interesting thing happened. Within a week of Biden – of Trump being inaugurated, the number of southern border and what they call an encounter has fallen by half. Half. Half. And I guess that’s because people are figuring out if we get across, we’re going to be sent right back over. So it’s already having, you know, call it the Trump effect, if you will.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right.
SPEAKER 15 :
But the number of daily encounters is down by half in seven days.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s amazing. That’s a ton, Joe. Wow.
SPEAKER 15 :
That’s a ton. Only stats I got for you today, John.
SPEAKER 07 :
You’re awesome, Joe. As always, I appreciate you, sir, very much. One other thing, too, before we continue on, and that is what I was going to say is outside of Colorado, Trump and student loans. He has actually, Donald Trump has, his administration has, has asked the Supreme Court to freeze the deadlines in some of the legal cases that are out there going against Biden’s executive orders when it comes to forgiving student loans and so on. In other words… What they’re saying is we’re most likely going to end this in other ways. There’s no sense in you, the Supreme Court, wasting any more time on this. In other words, let’s table this for now. We’re not going to continue to run these cases forward. Our legal – system, you know, that we’re in charge of, we’re not going to do this moving forward. So the reality is table these for now, because we’re most likely going to fix this in another way. So point being, and you guys know my feelings on student loans and how that works. I, as a taxpayer, should not be responsible for paying back your student loans. You did that on your own. Nobody forced you to do it. Now, I know some would say, well, yeah, but there is some coercion and this, that, and the other. Okay, maybe. But at the end of the day, you signed on the dotted line. You’re supposed to read those things before you sign. Nobody’s coming along paying my bills. offering to pay things that I’ve signed for over the years. Never once has anyone ever come along and offered to do that. So reality is we shouldn’t be responsible for you either. That’s on you. You signed up for it. It’s your responsibility to now pay them back. And I get it. A lot of people got a crappy education and spent a lot of money on student loans to get it. Again, not my problem. That’s like somebody buying a bad car. Am I responsible for paying their car payment because they bought a bad car or didn’t buy the right car? And really, let me explain it that way. I didn’t even say that right. It’s not that somebody buys a bad car and then falls on them. We’ve got lemon laws and things like that in most cases. Really what happens in a lot of cases is the person buys the wrong car, and then they’re mad. And they want something done because they bought the wrong car. I look at student loans as very much the same thing. They bought the wrong education. that either A, should have went into the trades, B, not gone at all, C, studied the right things that actually now provide a good income when you’re done, and dropped the goofy degree that they got instead. On top of that, the other thing that I know about student loans that doesn’t get advertised much, most people don’t talk about this, keep in mind a lot of these loans wasn’t just for tuition. A lot of student loans go towards supporting that student while they’re in school. In other words, they can pay for their apartment. They can pay room and board at the university that they’re at. They can pay for food and whatever else they decide to pay for. Sort of a blanket check. Yes, it covers tuition, but they’ve got money on top of that. When you hear of people having huge student loans, $100,000 plus, trust me, that wasn’t all tuition. Not in most cases. So again, why should we as taxpayers be paying that back for people? We shouldn’t be. And Donald Trump at this point is going to put a stop to that because basically what he’s telling the Supreme Court is, yeah, you can kind of shove that one off to the side right now because we’re not pursuing that. We’re going to head a different direction and change things when it comes to student loans anyways. Now, I also will say this, and I’ve said this for years. Part of the reason some of these folks got in this predicament in the first place is because the government got in the student loan business. At one point in time, and Joe and I have talked about this many times, you couldn’t borrow money on student loans like they can today. You had to have a STEM degree or you weren’t going to get a student loan. And then you had to even prove what you were doing and, in some cases, the grades that you were receiving and, and, and. So we’ve loosened that greatly when the government got in the student loan business, which, frankly, one of the things I would love to see Donald Trump do is get us out of that. Get us out of the student loan business. Put it back in the private hands. And then when you put it back in the private hands, universities should be on the hook for a certain amount of that tuition. In other words, if that loan doesn’t get paid, so it’s $100,000, we’ll use that number, and it doesn’t get repaid somehow, I think 20% of that should be on the university. Period. There’s incentive that way for the university to make sure the kids get a good education. And by the way, being placed and having a job when they’re done. And you get where I’m going with that. So so many things you could revamp in that whole end of things. And by the way, that’s coming from somebody that never went to college. So you might be talking to the wrong person, although I think I could fix this. and never being because I still know how it all works. All right, we’ll be back in a moment. Don’t go anywhere. Golden Eagle Financial, speaking of finances, that is next. Al will help you figure out a way to get to retirement and stay there. All you have to do is call him today. Find him at klzradio.com.

SPEAKER 07 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. My son Richard joining us now. Richard, are you there? I am. All right. Okay, so unless you are an Eagles fan or a dreaded Kansas City fan, you probably weren’t super happy yesterday.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, unless… Yeah, I mean, a very small section of the country and then a large section of said country is going to be Eagles fans, right? Because we around here especially don’t like… the Chiefs winning, right? I mean, honestly, if a meteor could strike and prevent us from doing anything, then we’ll just call it a win overall. But I don’t think we’re going to quite get that lucky. But, yeah, an un… Man, just a terrible weekend, I’ll say it. It was just not a fun weekend.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and again, I know that a lot of people are mad at all sorts of things in both games, but especially the Kansas City game. But I am to the point where I really could care anything about what goes on with the Super Bowl, and I’m not normally that way. But I despise the Chiefs so much that I’m not sure I’ll even watch it.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, and I think a lot of people feel that way. It’s a rematch from two years ago. It feels like, and I’m sure Andy and I will talk about it this weekend, next, it feels like a foregone conclusion that the Chiefs are going to win it. It just seems that way. I don’t know how else to say that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Really quick, and I’ll let you and Andy discuss this, but I remember Andy specifically saying there’s not an AFC team out there that’s good enough to beat an NFC team when it comes to the Finals.
SPEAKER 16 :
He did, and I’ll be serious.
SPEAKER 07 :
Did he not say that?
SPEAKER 16 :
No, he did, and he’s been adamant about his Lions. He would shoot me for saying that. About the Lions, and then he was adamant about the Eagles, with how they look. Dad, we’ve come to know here in Bronco land, as John Elway would say, I don’t feel like the Chiefs are going to lose at this point, and I’m just sort of setting myself up for that. And maybe this is how the Patriots fans and the Jets fans and all of those fans felt that over all the years, right? Or not the Patriots fans, the Jets fans, the Dolphins fans, the Bills fans even, felt when Brady and the Patriots were winning all that time. It’s just like nothing you do can stop this guy. And I’m not saying that Mahomes is the greatest. I think the dude’s well on his way. I mean, this is the guy’s seventh full season playing. The lowest level he’s gotten to is losing in overtime in the AFC Championship game. This will be his fifth Super Bowl. he’s gone to, he’s only lost one, and he has a chance to three-peat, which has never been done before in the entire history of the National Football League. Now, it went before the National Football League. I think there was a team that three-peated, but that doesn’t count. And so in the modern, it’s never been done. And as much as it pains me to say, I just don’t foresee it. So, yeah, to answer your original question, this was just a lousy sports weekend. I hate it. I just am in this. apathy sense that you know it’s one thing that you know when we look back and you we look at michael jordan’s bulls teams right or even the lakers but michael jordan right mid 90s they win three in a row then he takes a year off then they win another three in a row like i’m sure the entirety of the basketball world was probably tired of the chicago bulls at that point in time And that’s, I feel, but maybe they weren’t. I don’t know. Maybe Jordan had a different aura about him. I don’t know. You were more into that.
SPEAKER 07 :
It was different. And let me tell you what the difference was. I think people listening could probably relate to that. While a lot of people got tired of him winning, I think you also looked at Michael Jordan in a different way. And, of course, basketball is a little bit different than football. And, yes, there’s always questionable calls in basketball online. Although of late and when you and I get it, you know, people can, you know, throw all sorts of different things out when it comes to memes and so on. But when you’ve got the majority of the country asking if the NFL is rigged, even famous people like Dave Portnoy, who, you know, who, by the way, I don’t know that I. care for the guy or dislike the guy at all either way. I mean, he just is who he is. He’s a guy that can rub people really the wrong way, although I think sometimes he’s pretty spot on in some of the things that he comes out with, you know, barstool sports. And the reality, Richards, when you’ve got guys even like him calling, okay, NFL, Goodell, are you guys really fair in what you’re doing or is this thing rigged? And any time that gets asked, the NFL needs to take a step back and say, okay, wait a minute, we have a problem here.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, and I agree with you. And here’s the deal. I will say this first off, and Kansas City fans, I do not think that any one call yesterday, or even a multitude of calls, took the game away from the Bills and gave it to the Chiefs. I think that there were some iffy calls, some questionable calls, right? That fourth down call was a little bit questionable, I think. I think the catch, you know, where Mahomes just threw it up and his guy caught it on the goal line, basically, was iffy. But here’s the deal. I don’t think that the league has it out for them. In fact, I think it’s actually better for the league if more teams win, right? Because if you as a fan base feel like your team has a chance you were more bought in to that season and that thing.
SPEAKER 07 :
For example, my comment a moment ago about how the Super Bowl is not even exciting, why should I watch? And I know I’m not the only person because I’ve seen social media. I’m not the only person saying that. If the NFL is not careful, they end up with a situation where nobody wants to watch these big, huge games that, by the way, they make a lot of money off of.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, and I will be curious and we’ll be able to talk, you know, basically two weeks from today to see what ends up happening. And, Dad, if anything has sort of come, well, we’ll just see the ratings, right? At that point in time, we will know what the ratings are and what they’re going to be. Not all of all time, but lowest in the last number of years. And you’re going to see that. You will see some Chiefs fatigue. You saw the same stuff with the Patriots. There was some Patriots fatigue. And again, right, wrong, or otherwise, it’s just a fact. Now, Chiefs fans, I will say this. Take advantage of it, right? If your team’s this good, you’ll eat it up. It won’t last forever, though. What’s that?
SPEAKER 07 :
It won’t last forever.
SPEAKER 16 :
And that’s where I had Dr. Chiefs in today, and he was saying the same thing, which is, you know, I know it’s not. And, you know, they suffered through one in 15 seasons and terrible coaches and all that. And it’s just, you know, sometimes there’s just luck. And there is luck in sports, Dad, right? There is. You lucked into a coach like Andy Reid, who was fired by the Eagles, and he learned a lot in his time. They did get lucky in drafting Patrick Mahomes because he wasn’t the first quarterback taken. He sort of fell to them. Yeah, they traded up and got him. a lot of things went right for the Chiefs in order for them to take advantage of this. Now, they’re taking advantage of it, and, Dad, you know, Mahomes has still got a ways to go, but if he keeps it up, he will be arguably, it’s a name that was synonymous with John Elway for all those years, right, which was Clutch, and even Brady. If Mahomes keeps this up, he is going to be 1,000% I’ll just say it. He will be the most clutch player, Captain Clutch, whatever you want to say, Captain Mahomes of all time. Just the track that he is on is just incredible.
SPEAKER 07 :
And so, again, all of that to say… If he’s got the ball at the end of the game and there’s a chance of them scoring to win, he will.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, he’s going to.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s just that simple. And Elway was a lot that way, to your point, although probably not even to the same degree that Mahomes is. And to Mahomes’ credit, or maybe to John Elway’s credit, it was probably more on him than the rest of the team in the case of Mahomes. He’s got a lot of things going in his direction, including, which I can’t stand the guy, but Kelsey, because I can’t stand Taylor Swift and all of that nonsense. You know, that whole thing just drives me absolutely crazy. And whether you’re a Swifty fan or not, I could really care less. The whole thing just drives me nuts. It’s like, wait a minute, what’s the game about her or the game itself? I could care less anything about her. Yes, I get it. She’s brought some fans and things to the NFL and all that, but I just can’t stand the guy. I’m sorry. And I know I shouldn’t. He’s probably a really great guy, but I can’t stand the guy.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, you know, I’ll say it’s kind of like Barack Obama, right? He’s probably a guy where you can sit down and have a beer with him. You really have a good time, and you really enjoy it. And same with Patrick Mahomes. But it doesn’t mean you’ve got to like the guy, right? For a variety of reasons, and I’m with you. And honestly, Dad, it pains me to think, because again, we’ve talked about this a little bit. Even Kelsey, as much as his wife-to-be or whatever, wouldn’t want to agree. I think he probably leans right. I think that Mahomes does. You’ve seen some of the stuff that his wife posts.
SPEAKER 07 :
Definitely does. I’m giving credit there.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, I think Mahomes actually thinks… God last night, if I’m not mistaken, from what some people were saying. I didn’t watch the interview, so I’d have to go back and see. So there’s some things there. But you know what? I just, as a Bronco fan, just can’t do it. And so this weekend was painful. But you know what? It goes on, and as I have to tell my oldest, and you’ll find this funny, Dad, you know, it is just a game. As much as I have to remind myself of that at times, and you had to remind me of that growing up, it is just a game. But again, we talked about this today, Dads. It brings everyone together. We’ve talked about sports on this program for a long time, and the benefit that sports can bring, even with everything going on, I will say this. The benefit is, I’m not sure many of us, I know this is a sacrilegious on a Crawford station, I’m not sure many of us would be pulling for the Eagles. I mean, these are the fans, Dad, that booed Santa Claus right through snowballs at Santa Claus. And so for all of us to come together and become Eagles fans, unless you live in the Kansas City or Kansas metropolitan region, it’s saying something. So, hey, kudos to the Chiefs for bringing us all together under one umbrella.
SPEAKER 07 :

SPEAKER 07 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. We’ve got a couple of car reviews to do. Richard, you lately, and this is a car that’s pretty popular among a lot of individuals, 2024 Lexus GX 550 Overtrain. Talk about that.
SPEAKER 16 :
No, sorry, I missed it. 550 Overtrail.
SPEAKER 07 :
Overtrail, Overtrail. Sorry, that was my bad. I knew that, too. Overtrail.
SPEAKER 16 :
No, you’re good, yeah. So 2024 Lexus GX550, this is the all-new, maybe one of the hottest cars on the market right now, Dad, right? It is a, well, I’ll just say it’s a hot item in that it is, Lexus has redesigned the GX. It was getting stale, I’ll just say it. They’ve sort of redesigned it a few times. I think they’ve hit the mark on this vehicle. I’ve got several compliments on this car, Dad. Several people commented on it, and it’s one that we’ve been wanting to get in for a while now. So we’ll jump right into it. Different trim levels, right? There’s all sorts of things you can do. The Overtrail is the one that we had more gear towards the off-road. It’s got a few different off-road pieces on it as far as… You can read a little bit more about that yourself, depending on how you want to equip it. There’s a luxury version that’s actually got a third row, which kind of fits into that larger SUV sort of market. But we didn’t get a chance to do that. We just had your typical kind of, I guess, it’s technically a five-passenger vehicle. I will say this, Dad. It’s a new 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6. It’s fantastic. And they have solved some of their problems. power problems that they had over the years that you’ll talk about here in a second that were well known, right? They did a phenomenal job on it. I think it works well. It drives really well. It drives smooth. It feels smaller than it is, Dad, right? And that you get in this car and you don’t feel like you’re driving a large boat because sometimes some of the large cars… out there, they have that effect where it feels like you’re driving a larger vehicle than you actually are. And that’s something that it just can take away from the total value of the car as far as that goes. Its body on frame, as you know, obviously has a lot of the off-road, you know, that gives it some of the off-road capabilities. But you’ve seen these, you haven’t driven it yet, but from what I was describing to you, they made a lot of improvements from the previous generation to this iteration.
SPEAKER 07 :
um i like i’ve not driven this car but i like the look of this vehicle i think they’ve done a really good job on it and i’ve been up and close i’ve sat in it all of that i mean that part of it richard i really enjoy and i think uh lexus did a really great job or you know toyota that’s the owner of lexus they did a really good job on this vehicle one thing though about this particular vehicle that you and i were commenting on because i was driving a vehicle you were driving that vehicle and we were commenting on just everything from road noise and power and different things. But this particular vehicle, because of the roof rack, you didn’t care for so much, did you?
SPEAKER 16 :
Dad, I had several people get in it. They are Lexus fanatics. That’s all they basically own. And they love everything about this car except for the roof rack. And I’ll just say it, Lexus. We had a similar vehicle. I think we had a Toyota, no, a Sequoia that had the similar roof. There’s just something about the design of it that causes excess road noise or wind noise above about 50, 55 miles per hour.
SPEAKER 07 :
That would drive me crazy, by the way.
SPEAKER 16 :
And here’s the deal, Dad. On an otherwise quiet vehicle on the inside… And like I said, smooth, got a cool, you know, nice cooler box, pun intended. On the inside, you’ve got really easy to use controls, which I got several compliments on. It takes away from the vehicle. Now, I think you can remove it. And so I’m not going to knock the vehicle for it, right? I think if you got the luxury trim that offers that third row seating, I think you could get away from it. I just would love – because I know the reason they put it on there on the Overtrail is so that you can put some accessories and you can do some things like that with it that you couldn’t do maybe standard, right? Or you don’t have to buy an aftermarket accessory. I just would love it if they would engineer it better to not have that. Outside of that, Dad, one of my most favorite cars that I’ve driven over the past number of years – This vehicle, and don’t fall out of your chairs, folks, $8,4575, which some of you are going to say, oh, my goodness, folks, for a large SUV that’s in the luxury market, which is what this vehicle is, that’s right in line, Dad, and some could argue it’s even a little bit less cheaper than some of its competitors out there. So I love it. The fuel economy, just for folks, if you care, with the V6, It’s got the twin turbo. It doesn’t have a hybrid option yet, but I guess we’ll see what’s coming. I’ll be honest. I didn’t look too much into that. It’s a 15 and 21 for an average of 17. I already gave the price point. I would really highly encourage folks to hear the deal that if you want one of these things, you’ve almost got to get on a waiting list. That’s how much they are in demand right now. So we encourage you, if they have one, maybe they’ll let you test drive it at an Alexis dealer. If they don’t, still go in, check it out. And when you do that, let them know that John and Richard Rush from Drive Radio and Rush to Reason sent you.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, going kind of the other direction from this last review, because this is more of kind of a staple car that most anybody can own and operate if they’re in that market for this particular size of vehicle. That’s a 2025 Hyundai Tucson XRT.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yes. So this is, again, a little bit different car, Dad, but very competitive. We’ve driven Tucson’s in the past. It’s updated for 2025. There’s new infotainment system, new controls. It looks different. It looks a little bit more aggressive, which I really like. They redesigned it back in 2022. So this is kind of like a mid-cycle refresh, I guess you could say that. It gives you roomy interior. Plenty of room to get, and I know you and I talked about this, which you don’t care about as much, but that’s the car seat factor, right? You can get two booster seats in the back of this car. You can get however you want to apportion it. You can do that. As we know with Hyundai, Dad, and how they’ve apportioned these cars, they’ve made them really easy, right? They come very well apportioned for the value. And this car, just so folks know, as it sits, 36,240, Dad. Not bad. So right there in the mid-30s. all-wheel drive vehicle. It’s got a, let me see here, two-and-a-half-liter, four-cylinder engine, the eight-speed automatic transmission. Dad, this thing isn’t going to be a burner, but it’s not meant to be.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, it’s not. This is a car that you can get into. Great, everyday, reliable, you know, transportation. And to your point, if you go look at this compared to other vehicles in its class, this one will have better interior creature comforts than what most of its competitors have.
SPEAKER 16 :
Well, they will. And you even get some features that other cars don’t have. For example, and I know some people may not think it’s a big deal, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless device charging. You’ve got Hyundai Digital Key, which for folks who don’t know, basically you put the key on your phone. You don’t even need… a key anymore for a lot of these cars, Dad. And so for the price point, really hard to beat. In terms of fuel economy, Dad, $24,000 and $30,000 for an average of $26,000, which is great. Again, especially for what this car is around town. In the mid-30s, Dad, which I think that $36,000 price point is right around, maybe even less than what the average new car costs now.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, yeah, and then they’re in the 50s, so you’re well under that, absolutely.
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, so if you’re a younger family looking for reliable transportation, something that sits up a little bit higher, but it’s not a large SUV by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s got all-wheel drive here in Colorado for all the snow. Some of the snow we get, and even off-road, some of that sort of stuff. Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
And really quick to this one, as you were saying earlier, this is a vehicle also in its class. You won’t find another vehicles becomes it comes standard with a bunch of the safety features like, you know, lane keep assist, you know, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, a lot of those different things that in a lot of its competitors you’re paying extra for. You’re not here.
SPEAKER 16 :
you are correct. And again, there’s one thing about Hyundai, I don’t think they don’t have a ton of, you know, if you pick a trim, you don’t add a bunch, but they just kind of have different trim levels, right? Just depends on which direction that you want to go. You can go everywhere from their, you know, low-end SE for just over $30,000 to their high-end limited hybrid, which is about $43,000. And so I can say this middle-of-the-road XRT, it works phenomenal. That’s was really impressed with it. And, again, from a kid’s standpoint, taking kids to and from school, some of that capability was really nice. They were able to easily access the in and out of the car easy, close the door easy, all those sorts of things. So I encourage folks, especially if you’re in your young family, kind of looking for maybe a newer vehicle, whatever it might be. And the last thing I will say is this, Dad, we talk about this from time to time. Hyundai, five-year, 60,000-mile new vehicle warranty, 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, seven-year, unlimited-mile anti-perforation warranty, and there’s actually also a five-year unlimited roadside assistance warranty. So they’ve got a lot of warranties that, again, for maybe a young family, dad, whatever it is, may be the car that you’re looking for because you don’t have to buy all that extra stuff on top of it. So if you’re interested, text your local Hyundai dealer. Let them know that John and Richard Rush from Drive Radio and Rush to Reason sent you.
SPEAKER 07 :

SPEAKER 18 :
Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, we are back. And again, quickly, the announcement that I gave you on Senate Bill 25003, there is a gathering tomorrow at the Capitol. They’re going to take personal testimony and things like that on this. I believe you do have to sign up on the front side to be able to do those things. Go to wethesecond.com. For more information on that, it’ll start tomorrow at the Capitol at about 1.30 in the afternoon, and I guess it’ll go as late as possibly 11 o’clock tomorrow night as well. But this is really an all-out gun ban. I don’t know how else to say it. It’s not just an assault weapon type ban. It literally is naming certain guns and so on. I’ve been over this in the past here over the past several weeks. And if you’re somebody that’s got some ability tomorrow to go down and testify against this bill, I would highly, highly suggest you do so. It would help out immensely. Again, go to wethesecond.com for more information. All right, hour number three is next. Don’t go anywhere. This is Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 1 :
I’m a rich guy.
