Join Kim Monson as she delves into today’s pressing issues, dissecting politics and world affairs through the ever-relevant lens of freedom versus force. In this episode, Kim explores local and state-level challenges that redefine property rights and the political landscape. Highlights include a deep dive into how the radical activism affecting the Democrat Party and how bipartisan efforts in local legislation are shaping our future.
SPEAKER 13 :
It’s the Kim Monson Show, analyzing the most important stories.
SPEAKER 05 :
I find that it takes work to get your brain around these ideas, and it takes work to engage in these conversations.
SPEAKER 13 :
The latest in politics and world affairs.
SPEAKER 05 :
With what is happening down at the Statehouse, I used to think that it was above my pay grade to read the legislation, and it’s not.
SPEAKER 13 :
Today’s current opinions and ideas.
SPEAKER 05 :
I see big danger in as much as we will be giving an unelected bureaucrat the power to make rules about what we inject into our bodies.
SPEAKER 13 :
Is it freedom or is it force? Let’s have a conversation.
SPEAKER 05 :
Indeed, let’s have a conversation. And welcome to the Kim Monson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You’re each treasured, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today, strive for excellence, take care of your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body. My friends, we were made for this moment in history. Thank you to the team. That’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Teresa, Amanda, and all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. Happy Thursday, Producer Joe. Happy Thursday, Kim. Did you miss me? Of course. Well, I missed all of you. It is great to be back. I was in a place I dearly love in western Wyoming. And it is great to be back. Had great guest hosts that stepped in to take care of everything. And, of course, Joe behind the boards. And I did miss all of you, though. It’s great to be back, though. Wanted to say thank you to Laramie Energy for their goal sponsorship of the show. It’s reliable, efficient, affordable, and abundant power. From oil, natural gas, and coal that powers our lives, fuels our hopes and dreams, and empowers us to change our own personal climate, to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer, this is totally under assault. And that’s why we need to continue to shed light on all of these power sources and how this is all related to everyday people being able to thrive and to flourish. And so thank you to Laramie Energy for their gold sponsorship of this show. As you know, on the show, we search for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom. If something’s a good idea, you should not have to force people to do it. And it’s not compassionate and it’s not altruistic to take other people’s stuff. It’s called theft. And it could be their rights, their property, freedom, livelihood, opportunity, childhoods, or lives via force. Force can obviously be a weapon, but it can be policy, unpredictable, and excessive taxation, fear, coercion, government-induced inflation. The World Economic Forum’s agenda is played out by the globalist elites, obviously, through the United Nations. We see it with this Colorado governor, the radical activists that have taken over the Democrat Party here in Colorado, and Democrats. And there’s a big fight for the Democrat Party on a national basis, obviously. But this Democrat Party is not the Democrat Party of your grandpa and your grandma. It’s not the Democrat Party of JFK. This is radical activists moving towards a Marxist ideology. And we are seeing this also, though, playing out in local government and at the county level. So these races, these candidates, they are all so, so important. And land use codes and zoning, all these things are taking away people’s property rights. And so that’s why we are shedding light on what’s going on. We’ve got a big show planned for you guys today. So stay tuned on all of that. It happens because of all of your support. I’m an independent voice on an independent station. What that means is I purchase my airtime and pay my contractors so that we can bring this show to you. And so it happens because, again, all of you and our sponsors, Hooters Restaurants has been a great sponsor of the show for many, many years. How I met them is a classical story regarding PBIs, politicians, bureaucrats, and interested parties wanting to control things. and the free market and capitalism and entrepreneurship. And you can find the story at my website. But Hooters Restaurants has three locations. That’s Loveland, Westminster, and in Aurora. Great specials Monday through Friday for lunch and for happy hour. And, of course, football season is in full swing, so great place to get together to watch the games with everyone. I wanted to say thank you to Terry for his suggestion for the word of the day and also the quote of the day. And the word is ignominy. And it’s I-G-N-O-M-I-N-Y. It’s a noun. It could be great personal dishonor or humiliation. A public disgrace or dishonor, reproach, infamy. And he pulled this from a quote from Samuel Adams. Samuel Adams was born in 1722. He died in 1803. He was an American statesman, political philosopher, and founding father of the United States. He was a politician in colonial Massachusetts, a leader of the movement that became the American Revolution, a signatory of the Declaration of Independence and other founding documents, and one of the architects of the principles of American republicanism that shaped the political culture of the United States. He was a second cousin to his fellow founding father, President John Adams, and he founded the Sons of Liberty. He said this, If therefore a people will not be free, if they have not virtue enough to maintain their liberty against a presumptuous invader, they deserve no pity and are to be treated with contempt and ignominy. And that is Samuel Adams. Just think of the words they used. There are those that want to say that we are so much more intelligent these days. I don’t think so. We have a lot of different tools where we can get a lot of information. But we need to be disconnecting so that we can read, read books, read things. Reading is so important. And so, again, expanding our language, that’s important as well. I think the main… The main thing that I wanted to mention regarding headlines before we really get totally into the show is we’re working on the Colorado Union of Taxpayers Ratings Report, as I’ve mentioned, and it is an incredible body of work. And what I am realizing is that consultants, PBIs on both sides of the aisle are trying to control the narrative. And they’re also trying to keep people confused. The laws and the ordinances are so voluminous, zoning regulations. People can’t understand it. And I think it’s by design. And Madison had said something, James Madison said that if the laws are so voluminous that people can’t read them and understand them, it doesn’t matter if we are electing, I have this in air quotes, then representatives, because we don’t know what’s going on. It’s by design. And so I was able to, while I was… traveling, I was able to go through and do the second proof on our ratings report for the Colorado Union of Taxpayers. And I would highly recommend that you join us so that you can support us as we’re doing this. We will be putting it on the website. But House Bill 25-1315 is we chose 30 bills to write extensive commentary on in the report that’s one that we chose and it’s come back to bite the republicans in the rear end here because and and cut was a strong no on it and it was vacancies in the general assembly and the sponsors on it were representative sirota and puglisi and senator weisman and kirkmeyer so bipartisan support uh rose puglisi uh who I like very much, has decided to step down from her seat in the Colorado State Legislature. So the Republicans put together a vacancy committee, found a candidate that they wanted to fill the vacancy, and then the Secretary of State said, hey, You didn’t do everything you needed to according to the letter of the law of House Bill 25-13-15. And so that has been up in the air somewhat. And it was a terrible bill. And so if you’re going to want all that commentary, support us at coloradotaxpayer.org. On the line with me is a great sponsor of the show, and that is Karen Gorday. She is an entrepreneur. She is the owner of Radiant Painting and Lighting. She’s also a candidate for Lakewood City Council. Karen Gorday, welcome to the show. Good morning, Kim. Thank you. Let’s talk radiant painting and lighting first. I cannot believe that we are into October. That means Christmas is right around the corner, and you do beautiful work with outdoor lighting. But it’s not just on the house and the trees. Tell us what else people can do.
SPEAKER 07 :
You know, they can do just about anything with lights. You know, I like, you know, if they’re throwing a party, we can come in and decorate their backyard, whether that’s their pergola, their fence, string them from their shed to the middle of the yard. We can get super creative. And then they can sit, you know, enjoy the lights. You know, if they want to come down and take them down in a week, we will. But they can also keep them up a couple months, and then we’ll come take them back down when they’re ready and store them again so they can have another – Let’s just say backyard barbecue next year. So there’s so many things that can do with the light.
SPEAKER 05 :
You know, when I was coming home from the airport last night, I went by areas that I normally just only go by during the day. And I was shocked how different it looks when people have done some like backyard lighting. It’s it’s it’s really happy to me.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, yes, and that’s what I like about the lights. It doesn’t have to just be around the holidays, you know, between Thanksgiving and January. It can be year-round, and who doesn’t like lights? Because I love them.
SPEAKER 05 :
I do, too, and people can see some of your work by going to your website. What is that website, Karen Gorday? That website is www.paintwithradiant.com. Okay, let’s go over to the other thing that you are working on, and that is you’re a candidate for Lakewood City Council. That election is just a little over a month away. And tell us, first of all, why you’re running, and give us updates on what’s happening in Lakewood.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, thank you. So I can’t believe we’re a month away. It’s coming very, very quickly. And I’m running because I was just fed up in short with the way city council was voting on numerous issues and decided it was finally time to get off the sidelines and get involved. So I’m knocking doors every day, trying to get out and talk to people. It’s hard though, because everybody has busy lives, but at least making the attempt to get out and talk to folks. But then I was at an event last night and someone hadn’t even gotten to their neighborhood yet was like, oh my gosh, I’m so excited about your campaign. So I think the word is getting out there. And I’m excited. Again, though, I do need help. I’ve got 10,000 door hangers to get on doors between now and October 11th. And most of the normal folks that would help in Lakewood are a little tied up working on the citizens referendum, which I’m not going to go into too much because you’ve got Corey on your show today. later today. And he’s going to talk about that.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. Okay. So 10,000, and you say October 11th, because that is when the ballots are mailed out, correct?
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s correct. They go out on the 10th. So the 10th is a Friday. And so we want to have those door hangers on the doors no later than the 11th.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh boy, that’s right around the corner. Yes, it is. Okay, so how can people reach you regarding, obviously, radiant painting and lighting, but how about helping you with these door hangers? How can people help you with that?
SPEAKER 07 :
They can go to my website. It’s www.karenforlakewood.com. They can fill out a form just to submit a question and just say, hey, I want to help, and here’s my contact information. That would be fantastic. Okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. Well, Karen Gorday, thank you. And this is really in the spirit of the American republicanism, as Samuel Adams talked about it, is everyday people, representative government. And so thank you for stepping up. And again, that website for your campaign? Karen4Lakewood.com. Four is spelled out. Okay. Karen Gorday, great. We will talk to you next week. All right. Sounds great. Thank you, Kim. And we have amazing sponsors. Another one of those is the Roger Mangan State Farm Insurance Team. SPEAKER 17 :
Morning, Kim. I got to say, my coffee tastes, I don’t know, something in the air or something. It just tastes better, you know, even now those days when the coffee’s a little better, the sunrise is a little bit, I don’t know, more beautiful. I don’t know, maybe it’s the government shutdown creamer I’ve got in it.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well done, Corey.
SPEAKER 17 :
We started off with something a little happier since the last time I was on it was for 9-11.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, my gosh. Corey, great. Hey, first of all, I’ve got to say thank you to our fellow board members. We’ve got this amazing team, and that is Steve Dorman, Greg Golianski, Russ Haas, Bill Hamill, Rob Knuth, John Nelson, Wendy Warner, Marty Nielsen, Ramey Johnson, Mary Jansen, Dave Evans, Corey Onozorg, you Paula Beard and Ray Beard and I while I was traveling I needed to have additional hours to just proof this ratings report that we’re working on so I got four hours that I went through and I thought I thought that first the first Proof that I gave the printer was pretty good, and then I looked at this, and we had Paula Beard and Bill Hamill also did some editing, but we’re getting really close, and it’s a monumental piece of work that we’re doing here, Cori. Thank you.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, it’s God’s work and really love everyone on the team. It’s fantastic.
SPEAKER 05 :
It is. So let’s talk about, you sent something over regarding gentle density, which I thought that was interesting. Tell me a little bit about that.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, it’s quite a euphemism. So Mayor Strom, she went on a… And she’s Lakewood, right? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And she went on and talked about, you know, kind of the zoning changes here in Lakewood. And so what I want listeners to understand is, you know, this battle of ideas. What happens in Denver yesterday is happening in Lakewood today and is coming to a neighborhood near you unless you stop it. Unless we can stop it here in Lakewood. So we’re trying to stop it here so it doesn’t get downstream.
SPEAKER 05 :
And what is it exactly? I know that it’s not just one thing, but generally, if people don’t know what’s going on, what’s happening?
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, they’re increasing the housing density through allowing for ADUs, duplexes, triplexes, quadplexes. One of the zoning principles is it’s a 50% open space principle. I don’t want to define that and be wrong on it, but… uh from the wording of it i’d assume if you’ve got a 10 000 square foot property that you can have no more than a 5 000 square foot um total built on it but don’t quote me on that but i think that’s kind of the idea of it uh and so their idea is that you know they don’t want to look at the infrastructure the open apartments um and housing that already exists they’re just you know trying to to build more and i think part of it is lakewood’s anticipating a bit of a setback in the economy, most likely they’re going to raise the mill levy. And this kind of keeps construction jobs going in the near future. And of course, you’ve got to pay to get permits from the city. So I think there’s a bit of both that going on.
SPEAKER 05 :
So when you say raise the mill levy and that creates construction jobs, you mean public projects, yes? Yes.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, exactly right.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. But ultimately, on the short term, maybe that will create funds for building on the short term for public projects. But at some point in time, the amount of money that they can wring out of people is going to be so onerous that people are going to move or… There’s a variety of things on that. The other thing regarding this density, though, is they are not increasing the amount of parking. So it’s going to be putting people on top of each other, and then people are going to have to be driving around and moving into other neighborhoods to park their vehicles, yes?
SPEAKER 17 :
That’s exactly right, Kim. And when asked about it, Mayor Strom just kind of completely avoided the entire parking system. concept and the parking you know getting rid of parking minimum uh concept and uh that’s a little bit disturbing i mean imagine if you’ve got a you know 20 year old daughter getting home at midnight from her waitress shift and she’s got to park eight blocks away from uh where where her door is because because now there’s all this parking on the street or people are parked in front of your home on the street or or you know what’s next you’re gonna you’re gonna have uh paid parking I mean, you know, it’s just there’s so many problems that come with this. And the fact that we’re rushing into it willy-nilly and that they’ve got to call it gentle density because there’s a lot of opposition to it is, you know, to me it’s terrible. And so the reason why they broke it into four separate sections, I think approximately two weeks apart, four separate ordinance changes, is because now you need four separate sections uh referendums from the people and around you know four thousand plus signatures on each one of these changes which is really difficult you can’t just carry around four petitions because they’re all on a clock and so that’s a bit of strategy from the city to make it much harder to stop them from uh getting this zoning through and from us to get a referendum done but anyone can go to the facebook page is liquidus for everyone and uh details on the The referendums requiring signatures is all there. I encourage anyone who would call them, make sure they sign this petition and that we can do everything we can to stop it here so it doesn’t spread, like I said, a neighborhood near you.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, that’s interesting that you would mention this. I was going through getting ready for the show with headlines, and I found this is from Denverite. It says, no parking in your neighborhood. Resident-only permits could be coming. So that’s going to be interesting as well. So let’s say you have your lovely home and you want to have a party. You want to have friends over. Well, that’s going to make it very difficult if you get to resident-only parking. And so all these things are bad decisions are playing out, which is making it more difficult for people to thrive, flourish, live the lives that they want to live. It’s… Boy, Corey, it’s really coming down from the World Economic Forum right to the neighborhood in Lakewood. It’s coming down to Lakewood. And the other thing is, is that these PBIs, these bureaucrats, they’re unelected and they’re unaccountable, but they are being paid big bucks to push these agendas. An example, I looked at Open the Books and the… Lakewood City Manager is making just south in salary, just south of $400,000. That’s not including benefits, insurance, and all of that. So it’s crazy that what’s happened now is this agenda of the World Economic Forum of you will own nothing and be happy about it. They have in place now all these bureaucrats that are paid big bucks to push that agenda, Corey.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, well, Manager Hodgson, she’s surely the queen bee here. And from her, directly from Lakewood in 2024, as of 2024, she’s got a $3,633,880, sorry, $3,633,880. thousand uh plus dollar golden parachute and that was uh basically put in there a while back and that’s all paid for by taxpayer dollars and she bought a lovely two million dollar home in evergreen uh so when when she’s she doesn’t live in lakewood Well, she has a home in Lakewood as well, but I have a feeling once Lakewood hits the fan here, she’ll be headed up for the hills and living in her $2 million home, all off taxpayer dollars. And her views for what’s happening in the city… They’re going consistently backwards. I think she’s about at 30% kind of what’s going on in the city now. And she’s the only person that’s required to live in Lakewood and that can be fired by city council. And… So she has a home, but she has a second home. And I’m sure the second home probably… I’m not accusing her of not living here. She’s here all the time. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay. Thank you for that clarification. I can get myself going a little bit, Corey, so I apologize.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah, we all can.
SPEAKER 05 :
So the work that we’re doing at Colorado Union of Taxpayers, and we’re nonpartisan. We talk about Republicans and Democrats. What we do is we stand up for the taxpayer. And who is the taxpayer? It’s every Coloradan. If you buy anything in Colorado, you pay sales tax and all kinds of other things, fees. And we really would recommend that people join us. What’s your final thought that you’d like to leave with our listeners? Corey Onusorg.
SPEAKER 17 :
Come with the hour, come with the man, come with the woman. It’s surprising when you can look at a city like Centennial. It’s got two-thirds what Lakewood has. They only have 80 to 90 city employees, whereas Lakewood’s got up to around 1,700 now. And Of course, the outsourced police to Arapahoe County, you know, there are a few different factors there, but that’s a huge discrepancy. And the bureaucracy, God only knows how many of these people actually live in Lakewood that work for the city. And, you know, people got to get their heads up. you got to get into the sunshine here and see what, see what’s going on. There are a lot of people fighting and there are a lot of people that have moved and it’s changed the demographics of Colorado greatly, whether it’s the legal immigration into, into the state or, um, good people leaving the state. So, uh, I’m doing all this just like you are. Cause we love Colorado and, And we’re fighting for everyone. So please, please check us out on Colorado Unit of Taxpayers. And we’re going to be having a blue checkmark here soon, Kim. We’ll be posting a lot more stuff going into election and next year’s legislative season. So thanks for all you do.
SPEAKER 05 :

He is a Medal of Honor recipient for actions he took during the Vietnam War. He’s also a co-founder of the Center for American Values, which is located in Pueblo, Colorado. And Pueblo is known as the home of heroes because there’s four Medal of Honor recipients that grew up in Pueblo. Drew Dix, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 15 :
Jim, it’s always good to be here. Good morning to everybody.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, it’s been a while since we’ve talked, so it’s great to have you.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, thanks for, yeah, I missed our little meetings in the morning here, but no, we should get back on it. I always look for the opportunity to talk about the center. I know we’re doing great work down there in Pueblo and other parts of the country. that teachers are tuning into what we do.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, so let’s talk just a little bit about that. Well, the Center for American Values, located in Pueblo on the Riverwalk, is doing great work. It’s nonpartisan. It’s nonpolitical, focused on these foundational principles or values of honor, integrity, and patriotism. So you and your team have put together some K-12 programs educational programs, and you recently had a training for secondary educators, correct?
SPEAKER 15 :
Yes, we did. We had just right at 50 teachers that came to a class that was put on by the Medal of Honor Society and we hosted it. And, you know, they were really interested in our approach to get back to the basics of educating our kids and let the parents do the work that they’re supposed to do about bringing them up the way they want to be brought up. We’re going to reach out to some of those teachers and get them involved because they were motivated and practically all of them came up to me afterwards and spoke about how much they appreciate what we’re doing.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and the education of our children. I think during the COVID lockdowns, parents saw what was happening in many of these different schools, and there’s been great concern on that. And so parents and educators, I think, are hungry to get to these basic values and values. and set our kids up for success. And character development is one of the foundational components of the Center for American Values.
SPEAKER 15 :
That’s right. And we take great pride in being able to convince or tell the students that they have an opportunity to think, but we don’t tell them how or what to think, just that they can do it, that it’s okay to think about things that come across their minds and they should go to their parents in most cases to get an answer. You know, the thing that those of us, I mean, get older, of course, I’m up there, but is that The difference between the ages of those that we’re approaching and some of the parents is very narrow. A lot of times when we talk to groups of kids and they’re 15, 16, 17, we tell them they’re going to be parents very soon. And we’ve lost a generation of parents parenting those to carry that on, that responsibility of raising their kids. And they’re letting the government do it, and that’s a danger.
SPEAKER 05 :
Somebody sent me a quote. It says, when you have Caesar educate your children, don’t be surprised when they become Romans. And I thought, oh, that’s kind of an interesting quote. I hadn’t thought about that. Education really should be a partnership, and that’s the way it was really styled, our public education, was a partnership between the parents, the community, and then the school board would oversee the staff and educate. And it’s gotten a bit out of whack, and so I think people are realizing this, and so the center is really – It’s not that you just started to step into this. You’ve been working on this for quite some time, Drew.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, Kim, 15 years coming up November 11th, 2010 is when we opened the doors and it’s been a a steady build ever since. And, um, I got across to those teachers. I said, we had one hurdle when we started. And I, I remember because it was no, uh, November 11th, where there was a dedication at the bridge and Pueblo. And I spoke at, at, uh, Veterans Day event, and I invited everybody, it must have been 10,000 people there, I invited them all to come to the center, so we walked from the bridge over to the center along the river walk, and a woman came up to me, wasn’t confrontational, but she said, well, I guess we have another right-wing conservative organization building, and I said, you know, I never thought of it, only conservatives have honor, integrity, and patriotism. When I got that across those teachers, they realized that, yeah, everybody should have honor, integrity, and patriotism, no matter what your political beliefs are. And if we all believed in that and embraced those values, I think we’d get along a lot better as a nation.
SPEAKER 05 :
So, Drew, that brings up a really interesting point, and that is unity. We’re the United States of America, and Lincoln said that a house divided cannot stand. It’s biblical. A house divided cannot stand. And I was having a conversation with someone, and they said that there’s so much division in our country, we need to unify. And I said, yes, but it’s very difficult to unify with someone that wants to destroy our country. And we have those that want to destroy our country. And so how would you address that, Drew?
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, you know, it’s going to be a, I don’t know how we got there, but we got there pretty fast in the scale of things. That, you know, there’s basically two parties. And if you’re not 100% in line with With one party or the other, you’re an enemy. And I don’t understand that. There are some pieces of the agenda of both political parties that maybe I don’t agree with. And we should all have that prerogative of disagreeing. I can’t figure it out, but I think some of it is the communications that we have and the ability to reach everybody. And they can make a case for themselves, but recently after the Charlie Kirk assassination, It became obvious that a lot of people don’t care what they say as long as it’s an opportunity to express their point of view. And young minds are impressionable in that they could believe some of that stuff. I can’t even imagine the insults and attacking Charlie Kirk. He’s passed. He’s assassinated. He’s dead. And I remember the days in Pueblo when a funeral procession went by. Everyone stopped and gave respect and didn’t even know who it was, let alone trash the individual. So we’ve got to get back on track. we’re chipping away at it the center is uh is involved uh if if you align with what we’re saying here uh give us a call and see if you can’t help out if you don’t feel like you can do it on your own let’s let us help you out and express your values so well and i would really recommend that yeah i would really recommend that people
SPEAKER 05 :
go to the center in Pueblo. And the walls have the, and the portraits are amazing of over 160 Medal of Honor recipients. And they come from all, you know, all, they come from America, the melting pot of America. And these are men that when the situation presented itself, they stepped forward and took action to protect those around them. And I take great inspiration from that, realizing that it may not be that we’re in a physical battle, but we are in a mental battle now, or an ideological battle, where we need to, first of all, be trained up. That was the other thing, that these men were able to do this because they had good training, which I guess that’s what the center is really doing, is get trained in… these ideas of honor, integrity, and patriotism so that you can step forward into the battle of ideas that is raging right now, Drew.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, I know. And we make a big point that we honor those on the wall there that recipients of the Medal of Honor, not so much that the young students have to have a Medal of Honor or even serve in the military to do good things for this country. We use the examples of hardships on the battlefield where if the individual didn’t make the right choice, people would suffer more.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and so that’s why this is so important that the center is doing this work. And I’d really recommend that people support the center by going to AmericanValueCenter.org. That’s AmericanValueCenter.org. And Drew, you started a new podcast. And so we’re going to talk about that when we come back from break. It’s Words from the Silo. And you have so much experience, life experience on so many different issues. I really recommend that people add that into their repertoire as they’re kicking around these different issues and trying to get their brain around those ideas. And so we’ll talk about that when we come back. We’re talking with Drew Dix, co-founder with Brad Padula of the Center for American Values. and also a Medal of Honor recipient for actions that he took during the Vietnam War. And these discussions happen because of all of our sponsors. And one of those is Lauren Levy. Give him a ring for everything mortgages.
SPEAKER 10 :
Many seniors are feeling squeezed because of inflation, higher property taxes, and increasing costs of living. If you’re 62 or older, a reverse mortgage may be the solution. Reverse mortgages can be complicated, so it’s important that you understand the process and work with a trusted professional. SPEAKER 05 :
And welcome back to The Kim Monson Show. Check out our website. That is kimmonson.com. And I wanted to mention the USMC Memorial Foundation as well. It is a nonprofit that I dearly love. Paula Sarles, who is the president of the foundation and her team, just are doing amazing work honoring our veterans and our military. Thank you so much for having me. The other nonprofit that I highlight on a regular basis and dearly love is the Center for American Values, located in Pueblo, co-founded by Drew Dix, who is a Medal of Honor recipient, and we have him on the line. Drew, it’s always just fascinating to – you have so many life experiences that you bring – Well, you’re sharing that, which is so great, through your new podcast series. You completed season one, and it’s Drew Dick’s Words from the Silo. And it’s very, very good. And I’d recommend that people add that into their repertoire of things that they’re using to try to get their brain around these issues that we’re facing.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, thanks, Kim. A year ago, we started… that it became obvious that there’s so many issues that are surfacing that it just basically, well, it keeps me up all night. And that’s how we got started, because we figure that what keeps me up keeps everybody else up. And we take the common sense approach of answering questions that I know people have, because people are smart enough not to believe everything they hear. And then look at the opportunity or another side of an issue. Brad Petula is very good on that. It’s a good balance, and you can watch it on YouTube or you can listen to it. But some of the hot subjects that we talked about in the first 20 episodes were one is women in combat. That was a touchy one. I thought I’d get a lot of flack on that. I didn’t. I got all 100% positive responses because we take a common-sense approach here. to that so and now the very first one we did was uh it was kind of jokingly but we heard greenland might be for sale and i spent quite a bit of time uh in another life uh out on the sea ice put the night stations uh when we had a classified project uh tracking soviet submarines around and uh so i had that was our very first one didn’t necessarily keep me up all night but the fact that that the country is thinking about the value of that piece of the world was refreshing to me. And I was worried that we weren’t thinking about it.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and that was quite a conversation. And we did an interview with you where you explained a bit about that mission where you were on these floating pieces of ice and Soviet submarines. It’s like, wow, it’s pretty fascinating. What would you say, which podcast would you say that… you think that you got the most response from that as far as people said, gosh, this really hit a nerve?
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, like I mentioned, there’s our readiness and the military readiness. And I spent 20 years in the Army and in most of those in special operations. But I did have a tour in combat with a rifle company where I was company commander of 100% draftees. And I mean 100% draftees. And I consider that one of the most rewarding tours I had. But that gave me an awful good appreciation for the value of our young people that have to fight these wars if our politicians fail in achieving peace. So the readiness ones I received an awful lot. I’m very critical of our top-heavy command structure, and I think the current administration, I’m not making it sound political at all, but I’m really behind them on that. They’re trimming the fat, and no pun intended, because there’s a bunch of fat people leaders out there, not set an example. If we’re gonna fight a war, then we’ve gotta have the very best, and the very best in motivation in young men and women that we can field. To do less would be irresponsible. A waste of taxpayer money and the risk of losing a war.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, in speaking of readiness, I was thinking that we need to – there’s all this discussion about becoming healthy again, making America healthy again. And our military certainly needs to be trim and in shape. But I think that we have a responsibility as civilians to start to work on that as well, Drew. Yeah.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, we do. One of the hurdles that the recruiting, even though we’re meeting our goals now in all the services, I believe it’s all the services, record recruiting level, our pot that we pick from are not so healthy. I’ve heard figures at less than 20 percent or 30 percent in that neighborhood are of young people would qualify to be in the military, either for low physical condition or maybe their background or whatever. But, you know, it’s a challenge. And as citizens, we need to – all what we’re talking about at the center is building a culture that people are proud of. You know, you don’t get on – As a leader, don’t just say, okay, I want you to defend this and take care of your buddies. Okay, you do that with building a spirit of court, but a country that is willing, makes men and women willing to make sacrifices for each other is something that is built. It’s a strong foundation. It’s not something you order them to do. Let’s face it, you can’t order… courage and order success on the battlefield if times are tough. Someone has to rally and surface, and they do that because they love this country and those that build and make the country the way it is.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and true, this big, broad middle of Americans, that they’re busy with their lives. But I think that the Charlie Kirk assassination has been, it’s kind of like the JFK assassination. I think everybody remembers where they were when they heard about that. And I think it’s jolted people. and so I think it’s a good time. I think people are hungry for these principles again, this big, broad middle. I guess the big, broad middle of America, I think, is paying more attention than it did before Charlie Kirk.
SPEAKER 15 :
And obviously, you know, I knew of him, and I saw him every now and then pop up on some YouTube thing, but And I like what he was saying, but now that it’s inundated with what he was saying, he was just like a disciple moving around, trying to get those young people to open their minds up and not to be hateful. to each other, but to give them an opportunity to hear the other side of it. Some of those are ridiculous, and where they challenge him, and you can laugh about it, because that’s what’s happening, is those people are not stupid, they’re just ignorant about some things, and they’re young people especially, or mimicking what someone else has said without verifying The validity of it. So he’s done, was doing some good work, and I hate to say this, it’s unfortunate, but his death has caused an eye-opening approach that we’ve got to solve this problem, and not just violence. I think we’re going to, it’s ratcheting up, but I believe that it’s going to come to a time when people have enough violence And they’re going to back up our law enforcement to get civil again to each other.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and so, Drew, we’ve got just about a minute left. And the work that you’re doing at the Center for American Values, and I would highly recommend that people… Check it out. And you do great on values events, which I highly recommend. But I also, the first time I went to the center, I was there just by myself. And the director at that time just kind of took me around. And it’s a place also, and you’re open seven days a week unless there’s a private event, yes? Yes.
SPEAKER 15 :
That’s right, seven days a week. You might check the hours, but it’s basically 10 to 4, six days a week, and I believe it’s 1 to 4 on Sunday. But we’re open, and if someone has a group to come down and you want to do it on a different time, give us a call. We’ll accommodate you because that’s what we do. We’re to show off what we do, and we’re proud of it. And the docents down there know their subject, and they’ll give you the background of what you’re doing. And I might even be down there. I’m down there a lot. Yes, you are. So I’d like to see you.
SPEAKER 05 :
And, Drew Dix, you and Brad have co-founders of the center. It’s really an amazing place. So I’d recommend that people also support the center, and they can do that by going to AmericanValueCenter.org. That’s AmericanValueCenter.org. Drew Dix, thank you so much.
SPEAKER 15 :
Thank you, Kim. Have a good day.
SPEAKER 05 :
You too. And our quote for the end of the show is from Samuel Adams. He said this, It will bring a mark of everlasting infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of designing men. So my friends today, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you. God bless America. Stay tuned for our number two.

SPEAKER 13 :
It’s the Kim Monson Show. Analyzing the most important stories.
Indeed. Let’s have a conversation. And welcome to our number two of the Kim Monson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You’re each treasured. You’re valued. You have purpose. Today, strive for excellence. Take care of your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body, my friends. We were made for this moment in history. Thank you to the team. That’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Teresa, Amanda, and all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. Happy Thursday, Producer Joe.
SPEAKER 18 :
Happy Thursday, Kim.
SPEAKER 05 :
You know, when we were talking with Karen Gorday and she said that the ballots are going to be mailed out for this election on October 10th, that’s one week from tomorrow. And there will be two statewide questions, Proposition LL, Proposition MM. which it’s the old for the children, have that in air quotes, to create more bureaucracy and more taxes. So I will be working on our voter’s guide on that, but explaining why. I would highly recommend a no vote, but give you my reasoning, and then you can use that as a tool. And we’ll make probably more of a 30,000-foot view on a number of these other questions on local ballots because I know up in Wellington there’s going to be a request for a tax increase for the fire department. And we need to stop having government grow. And the way to do that is to quit giving them more and more money. So we’ll talk a lot about that. Let’s see here. I had coming in on the text line a question about getting candidates on the show. And any candidate that reaches out to me, I will get some time for them on the show. I’d highly recommend that they text me at 720-605-0647, which is our text line. But they can also email me at Kim at KimMunza.com as well. And I will get candidates on. I am going to moderate. a candidate forum for the gubernatorial candidates on Saturday, October 18th, up in Loveland. And it will be at Res Church 6502 East Crossroads Boulevard in Loveland. And at this point, I know that Trent Lisey is trying to get all of the candidates that have announced for governor to be there. So it’s going to be very interesting. And of course, we would love to have you join us. And I will be the moderator on that. So check that out. All this happens because of all your support and our sponsors. I wanted to say thank you to Laramie Energy for their gold sponsorship of the show because it’s reliable, efficient, affordable, and abundant power from oil, natural gas, and coal that powers our lives, fuels our hopes and dreams. and empowers us to change our own personal climate to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer. And if you missed our number one, as you know, we’re live six to eight. If you missed that, it will rebroadcast this afternoon in the one to two hour. And we featured Drew Dix, Medal of Honor recipient and co-founder of the Center for American Values in Pueblo. And the center is non-political, non-partisan, but focused on these foundational principles of honor, integrity, and patriotism, which those seem to me like values that we can all unite around. And so check out the center, support it. That website is AmericanValuesCenter.org. Our word of the day, and thank you to Terry for this. He gave me both the word of the day and the initial quote from Samuel Adams, is ignominy. And it’s spelled I-G-N-O-M-I-N-Y. It could be great personal dishonor or humiliation, public disgrace, reproach, infamy. And the quote was this from Samuel Adams, who was one of our founding fathers. He was a signer to the Declaration of Independence and founder of the Sons of Liberty, which they’re the ones that dressed up as Indians and threw the tea over the side of the ship in Boston Harbor. And he said this, he said, if therefore a people will not be free, if they have not virtue enough to maintain their liberty against a presumptuous invader, they deserve no pity and are to be treated with contempt and ignominy. And that is Samuel Adams. Let’s see. Wanted to make sure that I mentioned I think that I think that’s good. Karen Levine is on the line. You know her. She’s a dear friend. We’ve known each other for many, many years. She is an award winning realtor with Remax Alliance. Karen Levine, welcome to the show. Good morning, Kim. And I have been out of town and had guest hosts and I have one other trip coming up soon. And you’re going to guest host the show here soon. Well, that is the plan.
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s going to be great. I will, yes, just ask for a lot of grace from the listeners, but we’re going to have some good conversations, I think.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and that’s what we really are focused on is conversations. I’ve been out of town. And so what’s happened over the last week or so with the fall selling season?
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, you had made a suggestion about preparing your home for sale in the fourth quarter or as we move into the fall season. And whether that’s preparing it to live in it or preparing it to sell it, some of the things are very similar, which… Some of the thoughts I had were we all need to start thinking about getting our sprinkler systems winterized. And if we’re going to be selling our home, we want that done to assure that the sprinkler system will be in good maintenance and repair next spring for the new owner. And, of course, for ourselves, we don’t want to have maintenance issues next spring as well. So something to put on your calendar to get that done here in the next probably 30 days, six weeks before winter. And then a lot of people, homeowners and home sellers, forget that they should have their furnace cleaned and serviced and ensure that it is safe and that the filter has been changed as we go into the winter season. And we should change our filters regularly. pretty much every 30 days when we’re in the winter heating season. But one of the biggest or most common things asked for in a home inspection is to ensure that the furnace has been cleaned and serviced in the last 12 months. So you can get a jump on that. Let me give a plug for Ben’s Plumbing and Heating.
SPEAKER 05 :
To do that for you. Great sponsor of the show. That number is 303-995-1636. And I’d recommend that people reach out to get that done. And furnaces are expensive, so maintenance on it is important, isn’t it, Karen? Sure.
SPEAKER 08 :
It is, and I have found that my clients that have kept their furnaces well-serviced, cleaned, have changed their filters on a regular basis, they do get an extended life out of those furnaces. And although an inspector will tell a buyer, hey, that furnace is approaching the end of its useful life, but I don’t see any issues with it, there are reputable companies, and Ben’s probably – guessing one of those that would say it is safe and doesn’t need to be replaced if that is the case absolutely and there are yeah other hvac furnace companies out there that be due to age alone they would tell you that that needed to get replaced and that’s a big expense for everyone so those were a couple of items i thought that were important to think about this time of year the other thing is is if you are considering making a move selling your existing home to either find something smaller something larger because your family’s growing or you’re thinking of relocating If we start a conversation, you’re interested in using my services, I provide what’s called a walk and talk. And that is an appointment with a professional stager that will walk us through your home and give suggestions about how we can best present your home. And the number one thing that’s going to be on that list is decluttering. And we do a lot of spring cleaning, so now’s a good time to do fall cleaning. And start going through some closets. You know, maybe skinning down some things. Editing.
SPEAKER 05 :
Getting things out of our homes. I have some editing I need. And I am starting to work on that, Karen Levine. So I am. I’m working on that. How can people reach you? It’s an endless task here. I know. Buying a home, selling a home, new build. How can people reach you?
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, they can reach me by giving me a call or giving me a text at 303-877-7516. That’s Karen Levine for Everything Residential Real Estate, 303-877-7516.

SPEAKER 05 :
Welcome back to the Kim Monson Show. And are you craving a real New York style pizza and pasta? I have to tell you, I’m craving a calzone from Little Richie’s and they are in Parker and Golden. And they have authentic New York flavor with Colorado roots from daily specials and weekday lunch deals to a happy hour worth planning around. They are your neighborhood favorite. They’re always serving up something worth stopping for. And again, that’s Little Richie’s in Parker and in Golden. On the line with me is Virginia Maka. She is a wealth of knowledge on very important issues that we are facing in our country. She is the founder of Stand for the Land Kansas. She understands the importance of our farming and ranching communities. And that the connection to our urban areas is that we go to the grocery store. We’ve taken for granted reliable food sources, abundant, affordable. Same with our energy. And she is all over it. Virginia Maka, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 06 :
Good morning, Kim. That was a very interesting segment before because I do need to clean out my closet and I might have to call Karen myself.
SPEAKER 05 :
She’s a wealth of knowledge as well. Virginia Maka, Stand for the Land Kansas. Tell us how and why you founded that. And people are reaching out to us here in Colorado as well for your expertise. But tell us how you started it and what you’ve learned.
SPEAKER 06 :
you know this was really just a a project of god to drop me into this utility sector and it’s a very hard subject matter to understand they have a lot of acronyms and you have to learn who’s who and who has what power and the one thing that i did test was do people understand eminent domain because we were we had 1.2 million acres on a transmission line under assault and landowners there were over 200 of them that were going to be eminent domain this land this land is so connected to our freedom and people are very passionate about their land and that’s how I got involved because Our survey showed out of 150,000 homeowners, 86% of them not only understood eminent domain, but responded to the ad and went to our page. So we were not really expecting that kind of response right out of the gate. But it was so necessary to address it early that I could see where this was going and it was to turn into a large land grab, that’s exactly what it did. And we get to pay for those transmission lines.
SPEAKER 05 :
So these transmission lines ostensibly are from industrial solar and wind projects to supposedly get, I have this in quotes now, renewable energy to the urban areas, yes? Yes.
SPEAKER 06 :
So with the Entire renewable industry, it can’t function without government subsidies. And during this COVID period, there were a lot of executive orders written by our President Biden. And they literally changed not only your power to protect your land, but gave government overreach and changed the way our federal tax dollars flow through the treasure without oversight. So these subsidies are in the trillions of dollars every year. So you see it’s directly connected to our debt. So renewables have a very large footprint. So they had to come to the Midwest and use that premise to expand renewables here in America. Now the only place that’s missing solar is our deserts, which is kind of strange that desert doesn’t have solar in it.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, I remember when I was first on the air that there was this big solar, industrial solar project in the Mojave Desert. And now I’m drawing a blank. I think it started with a U. And I thought, I looked at the amount of land that was being used for that and I couldn’t believe it. But that is, it’s going out of business. They’re closing that down. And what’s going to happen? I wonder what’s going to happen with all those solar panels. Are they going to put the land back to how it was before? I doubt it. What do you think? Let me find the name of that.
SPEAKER 06 :
You know, that’s the expensive part is the decommissioning. Most of those panels, within a year or two do not function at an efficient rate so you’re actually saying it’s going to be worth this much energy and it’s producing less and as each one of those panels sunsets itself early your problem is decommissioning and yes that desert was the largest of its kind with photovoltaic solar, and those panels are toxic. So what the plan will be and who will pay for it, I imagine it will be the taxpayers. Again. Again. Again. We seem to be popular in that field. And how they dispose of them is really up in the air. Now, come to Colorado and Utah, Your state has a terrible problem with these panels. They’re stacked and stored in quarries because there’s no other solution to address it. And so they stack them out of sight. A lot of your solar fields that are standing now, the panels will be perpendicular to them. uh to the earth to the land which is straight up and down and that’s a signal that that panel no longer works so if that’s what you see in the solar fields you pass that panel is no longer functional but they don’t have any other option but to put it perpendicular to the the earth because it is um It doesn’t function and actually hailstorms really are tragic to this whole experiment. And I call it an experiment because they’re literally changing the reliability of our energy with renewables.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, and the reliability is that it’s not reliable. And I found that, and this was January 30th, 2025, from AP News. It was 11 years after celebrating the opening. The massive solar plant, Ivanpah, appears to be headed for closure. So now the question is, we need to be shedding light on this. What is going to happen to that land? Because… It’s the same question with the wind turbines and taking the amount of land that is being taken for solar projects. I’m not calling them fuels anymore. Right. Virginia, because that implies farming and ranching. I’m calling them industrial solar projects and wind industrial projects. Because what’s going to happen is nobody asked about this decommissioning. And even if these big companies that have been getting all these tax credits to put in these industrial projects, they need to be putting up money now. for the decommissioning so that the taxpayer will not be on the hook for that because we already have been on the hook for getting them built through all these tax credits and tax credits and incentives, Virginia.
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely. Absolutely. I actually have been working monitoring your situation in Colorado because it seems as though Kansas was the epicenter of the experiment and we’re about two years ahead of you and we have really worked hard at the county level to hold back the expansion of this bad experiment and this is why because the soil that solar sits on can can’t be brought back once you kill the organisms in the topsoil. That soil, or actually they remove the topsoil, and then what organisms are left in the soil, they kill off those colonies. And once you do that, you will see the earth has no nutrition and it becomes dust. And that’s what Colorado does. has now happening in the southern part of colorado where the solar and the wind are they have respiratory problems the populations are suffering asthmatic because of the dust so i guess it’s really hard to wrap your mind around it so i did a little just a general estimate And trying to give your audience a picture of something that they can visualize how big the mass of land being removed for electric and transmission and renewable is in your state.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay, let’s keep that as our cliffhanger, Virginia Maka, because it is so significant, this discussion that we’re having right now. This is happening. People don’t realize it. And it’s really… something that we’ve got to stay on top of and these discussions happen because of our sponsors and we need to protect our rights our bill of rights our freedom of speech and the second syndicate is doing amazing work on protecting our second amendment rights which the second amendment is there to protect all the other rights

And I’m talking with Virginia Maka. She is the founder of Stand for the Land Kansas. And the issues that caused her to create Stand for the Land Kansas, she said that they were about two years… and I don’t mean in a good way of what Colorado is doing, but Colorado is doing a lot to try to catch up as fast as possible. And Virginia, you said you had some estimates about this renewable wind and energy industrial projects, these transmission lines, how much land it’s taking. What’s the numbers? What’s it look like?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, and these are really guesstimates to the very minimum size. This is minimal. Usually they come in and take blanket easements where the landowner actually loses control of the property. So just the easement on the Colorado corridor transmission line that Albert and El Paso counties are battling, just the easement alone, that’s 150 foot wide, it takes up Around 10,000 acres. So let’s put 10,000 acres into a perspective. And that’s about 8,000 football fields.
SPEAKER 1 :
8,000.
SPEAKER 06 :
That means 8,000 football fields are going to be repurposed in land use. That’s giant. And the public will never understand. have control back over that easement, nor will the landowners. So Excel has actually exceeded expectations on how many properties that they’ve taken by eminent domain. And there’s 13 people in Albert County that were served eminent domain papers just a couple of weeks ago.
SPEAKER 05 :
So this 48-mile segment… And even though the Elbert County commissioners voted to deny this permit… Xcel Energy is out there taking people’s land. And eminent domain in the Constitution, it says that if land is taken via eminent domain, that people are supposed to receive just compensation. But I consider it a takings because, again, you get over there to the just compensation, and that’s a whole other conversation. So eminent domain, these people don’t want to sell their land, and so Xcel says we’re going to use eminent domain to take it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Exactly. And you have to prove necessity, public necessity. These transmission lines will be paid for by the right holders in Colorado. That means you’re going to pay for this expansion. Your governor wants to be 100% renewable. So at this moment, they are actually decommissioning your fossil fuel, which are your coal and gas burning power producers. That’s like taking your electric clear off line and using candles and thinking that you have reliable electric. Because when you lose your reliable, which is your fossil fuel type of utilities, And you change that out for electric that’s not constant, which the sun doesn’t shine in the night and the wind doesn’t blow all the time. So by doing this, it puts the entire state of Colorado at risk. And if your grid went down 100% renewable, you would not have the kind of energy it needs to bring that grid back up. And that is your fossil fuels. So A mix of these two things could be okay, say 20% renewable, which actually we have 30% in Kansas, but you have to think you’re not going to be expanding economic development, manufacturing, and all those things that we enjoy when we go over and turn the light switch on or we have the power coming into our homes. So just think about this. 127,000 acres currently and future projects that are following this transmission line, 127,000 acres will be repurposed from agriculture to solar, wind, and battery with substations all along the line. That’s 96,000 football fields. That is, to me, a tremendous beatdown of eastern Colorado repurposing land, and it’s going to be just sad if we don’t get control of this. 100% renewable.
SPEAKER 05 :
That is just silly. So, Virginia, what about the Trump administration? They’ve said that they want to get rid of these tax credits and incentives for industrial wind and solar projects, which I totally agree. However, when we had Trent Luce on, he said that, yes, the administration has said this, but we’re seeing right here in Colorado that the continuation. We’re seeing it up in Wyoming. Is it that the Trump administration is saying one thing and doing another, or is it that it’s difficult to get this, you know, send the messages down to these projects? What is your thoughts on that, Virginia?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, we have to look at how this all was implemented. We had three years of Joe Biden writing executive orders. He used over 11 cabinet positions, that means agencies, establishing through them thousands and thousands of changes of the rules and regs. And there wasn’t a paper trail because Joe Biden passed the Paper Reduction Act. So Let’s talk about the tax credits. In 2023, Excel alone collected $850 million of federal transferable tax credits. Transferable is key here because Joe Biden made it so that Excel can transfer those tax credits, which are like, say, free money, free cash, like a poker chip, and you can go out onto auctions and sell those tax credits to another party for cash and it’s not reportable income and it’s not taxable so the irs has no way to trace the paperwork no way to trace the transaction because they say it’s private and that is why we sued janet yellen and the irs and the epa because of the transferable tax credits for incentivizing the ignoring of the environmental laws. So we have to untangle those thousands of agencies. What a massive task our president has. But here’s what we can do. The local level is what holds back the dyke. You can put a cash bond, the utilities pay every year to the county for if something hazardous happens and you have to clean up or you have to decommission. And that cash bond is not returned to the company. It is a cash bond they have to put up front. They can do things like that. They can require at the local level, and that is what I see, this wonderful little group of environmentalists there that have helped Albert County stand up, and that’s the Environmental Alliance. And these people have really held the line, and they’re the ones facing eminent domain. Okay. This is a fight for our land and our freedom. It is absolutely no different than what they fought for in the Revolutionary War. It is very similar.
SPEAKER 05 :
Virginia, you and I were talking, and you said that these Elbert County commissioners and these El Paso County commissioners that voted to deny this Colorado transmission program, line of by excel will really they have their finger in the dike you said this is this is huge what is happening and so excel now is going to the puc and here you have an unelected unaccountable bureaucracy that is giving this uh company uh the power of eminent domain and And so we’ll keep that as our cliffhanger, Virginia, because I know you’ve got a lot to say about that. We’re talking with Virginia Maka. We’re talking about saving our land and our food source and our power sources. And it is right under our noses that this is all under attack. And so we’ve got to continue talking about it. And we do this because we are an independent voice and we’re independent because of your support and because of our sponsors. SPEAKER 05 :
And welcome back to the Kim Monson Show. Be sure and check out the USMC Memorial Foundation. It’s a nonprofit I dearly love. The official Marine Memorial is right here in Golden, 6th and Colfax. And Paula Sarles, who is the president of the foundation and her team, are raising money to take care of the memorial and this amazing remodel. And it is so important to remember and honor those that have given their lives, have been willing to give their lives for our liberty. And we’re called to support them, usmcmemorialfoundation.org, and do our part in this battle of ideas. A woman that is doing that is Virginia Maka. She is the founder of Stand for the Land Kansas, but she is starting to understand what’s happening here in Colorado It is a big deal. And Producer Joe, during the break, said something interesting. He said, a lot of people say, oh, tax credits, that doesn’t really affect me. But connect the dots. If an organization is getting a break through tax credits… then government isn’t reducing their spending so that revenue has to come from someplace. And in the case of the federal government, it’s by taxing us or borrowing. And so tax credits, tax incentives, we need to get back to this vision of the declaration that we’re all treated equally. And once we do that, we start to make better decisions. And that means no tax credits, no tax incentives. We’re all treated equally. What do you think, Virginia Maka?
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely. And this battle, it can be won. It can be stopped. And we can stop the damage now. And there’s some things that you don’t think everyday people can do. But if they just took the time to do a few simple things, and one of them is stand up and have an opinion in your community. And give courage to those that serve because that gives them courage to do the right thing. And that is what has been honestly hijacked at our local level of government is the bully tactics that these energy companies demonstrate at the local level. They’re threatening. And landowners that are surrounded by solar just give in because they’re They’re going to be surrounded by solar. It doesn’t do their land any good. And they just succumb to whatever, you know, their neighbor has signed up for. It becomes attractive. Because it’s an emotional as well as a physical drain on every landowner.
SPEAKER 05 :
It is. When I went out to the hearing where the Elbert County commissioners, then the next day they reconvened the meeting and they denied Excel the permit. And Excel, the permit that they were requesting was incomplete. But bear in mind, my friends. The permit was denied, and Excel is out there still serving eminent domain on these farmers and ranchers in Elbert County. And, Virginia, you and I talked just the other day, and you’ve been watching this closely, and I heard this, and it perked my concerns, I would say, and that was that the judge was going to try to put all of these eminent domain documents questions all together. And I thought, that’s danger, danger, because then there will be just one decision instead of hearing all of these different eminent domain questions. And that is happening. Yes, Virginia? Yes.
SPEAKER 06 :
When you do that, you take away a person’s right to represent their property. And every property is different. And every property is not necessary to
SPEAKER 05 :
The transmission line… Not necessary meaning… What do you mean not necessary?
SPEAKER 06 :
So sometimes necessity isn’t met by the utility company to take that land by eminent domain. If you lump all of the properties together… Oh, got it. They eliminate the necessity part of proof. And the proof of burden of necessity is very, very… It has criteria and it’s very tough for a utility company to actually present in court. So they usually take the property owner to court and then they beat the property owner down in legal fees to where they just succumb and sign. And that’s not what we’re seeing in Kansas because these people are rising back up and they’re taking them to task. And the utility companies, they are really struggling to prove that necessity part of eminent domain that is laid out in our Constitution. A little fact, Excel, just been in your state for a couple of years during this transmission line. During 2020 to 2025, Excel has initiated over 200 actions across your state uh for eminent domain and but you know like over 30 of those potential cases are in albert county and those people really need encouraged to withstand the pressure of the large utility company and that includes your state representatives and your state senators tell them this hundred percent renewable is not a good plan but the one thing that really changed for um colorado and you guys have stronger uh property rights than we do in kansas it was your 2006 amendment one where you could limit what can be taken for economic development and so some of uh Those things are being ignored by your unelected committees, like your transmission and your public utility. So those are some real, I mean, just have a conversation. Let’s have an open conversation. And that’s what I see not happening. Your utility users in Colorado, eastern Colorado, Excel is not their service provider, not to all of them. The average bill for Colorado people, it’s estimated, they don’t even know, but it is estimated that your bill will not double, not triple. It will be about four to six times the bill that you’re receiving now. And I don’t know too many families that can sustain that.
SPEAKER 05 :
So it’s not sustainable. All the words that they use, sustainable, it’s not sustainable. And… So with Excel, I like power. I like to turn my lights on. I like to be cool in the summer and warm in the winter. And I appreciate that. But Excel and the radical activists in our government are in bed together right now, Virginia.
SPEAKER 06 :
They absolutely are. And when you have town halls attended, just go. And be present because that congressman or congresswoman, which Eastern Colorado has, they’re good people. And that gives them a sign of if they see one person, they’re thinking there’s a hundred or more at home that couldn’t show up. And so that means a lot to them to find the courage. And if you don’t show up, they think, You don’t care. So if you have time, just go to a town hall and help the congresswoman stand up. There could be a letter written to our president as well as our Federal Energy Regulation Commission and the Department of Energy. They are hiding all the climate change committees under different names now, like rapid grid deployment. I was over there.
SPEAKER 05 :
So when you say they, that would make it sound like that the Trump administration is still supportive of this.
SPEAKER 06 :
They are not supportive, but it is very hard the way that the legal barriers have been set up.
SPEAKER 05 :
So these bureaucrats are just changing the names of what they had. So this is difficult to unravel.
SPEAKER 06 :
It is very difficult. And if you were a secretary that just came into office trying to evaluate all the bureaucrats that have been there, For years, and especially under the Biden administration, there’s so many rules and regs that they put into place without following protocol of the Administration Act, where there is a protocol to address NEPA. There are protocols to establish committees, and none of that was followed. So it’s very hard for the president to keep his finger, and he’s trying to find good people to help his secretaries identify all of this. It’s a mountain to climb, per se, in Colorado. It would be a mountain to climb.
SPEAKER 05 :
But we can climb it. We’re going to climb it. Not climb it, change, but climb it. And we are going to protect our land. Virginia, we’re basically out of time. What’s your final thought? And we will get you on again very soon.
SPEAKER 06 :
Your little saying, freedom versus force, force versus freedom. This is where we’re at. And it is the regular guy that does extraordinary things that can change the dynamics of what’s going on. And all you have to do is find your voice. And it doesn’t have to be harsh or nor confrontational. Just ask the simple common sense questions and boil it down to family budgets and the quality of life we enjoy in America with freedom. And that resonates with everyone across the board. And it gives other people passion to also have a voice. So you’re encouraging, but you’re also giving permission for people to find their voice. And that’s how we save America.
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, Virginia Maka, stand for the land, Kansas. And it’s the number four stand for the land, Kansas. Thank you. We’ll talk again soon. Thank you, Kim, for allowing me to speak to your audience. And our quote for the end of the show is Samuel Adams. He said, You will bring a mark of everlasting infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of designing men. So, my friends, today be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you, and God bless America.
SPEAKER 09 :
Thank you.
