On this special Liberty Toastmasters Table Topics edition of The Kim Monson Show, Kim is joined in studio by Marshall Dawson and fellow Toastmasters to explore the relevance of the Declaration of Independence in 2025. From civic reflections to critiques of overreach, the conversation spans history, language, patriotism, and faith in our founding principles. You’ll hear passionate commentary from local leaders including Greg Morrissey, Rick Rome, Bennett Rutledge, Fred Clifford, Ross Klopp, Bradley Beck, Dave Walden, and more. Later in the show, Kim welcomes Alicia Garcia and Teddy Collins of the Second Syndicate to break down the potential backfire
SPEAKER 02 :
It’s the Kim Monson Show, analyzing the most important stories.
SPEAKER 19 :
I find that it takes work to get your brain around these ideas, and it takes work to engage in these conversations.
SPEAKER 02 :
The latest in politics and world affairs.
SPEAKER 19 :
With what is happening down at the Statehouse, I used to think that it was above my pay grade to read the legislation, and it’s not.
SPEAKER 02 :
Today’s current opinions and ideas.
SPEAKER 19 :
I see big danger in as much as we will be giving an unelected bureaucrat the power to make rules about what we inject into our bodies.
SPEAKER 02 :
Is it freedom or is it force? Let’s have a conversation.
SPEAKER 19 :
Indeed, let’s have a conversation. And welcome to The Kim Monson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You’re each treasured, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today, strive for excellence. Take care of your heart, your soul, your mind and your body. My friends, we were made for this moment in history. And thank you to the team. That’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Teresa, Amanda, and all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. Happy Thursday, Producer Joe. Happy Thursday, Kim. And a great show planned for you today. Fasten your seatbelts. In studio with me is my friend Marshall Dawson. He is my colleague with Liberty Toastmasters. It is Liberty Toastmasters Table Topics Day. It’s great to have you.
SPEAKER 04 :
Thanks, Kim. Yeah, joining me in studio is my friend Kim Monson. It’s so great to be here, Kim.
SPEAKER 19 :
It’s great to have you, and we’ll talk about the Declaration of Independence. Well, we have a suggested subject, and that is the Declaration of Independence and how it’s relevant to us in 2025. And 250 years ago at this time, Marshall Dawson, 1775, things were hot in the colonies.
SPEAKER 04 :
They sure were. There was lots of unrest, if you will, and I think a lot of that was being goaded on by the behavior of the English.
SPEAKER 19 :
Yes, government, a king, where government was the king instead of, or in this case, it was a king. What we see, I think, in 2025 here in America is that there are those, particularly with the No More Kings movement, protests that some of them devolved into riots, is that they want government to be the king. And the fact that we’ve got this rub right now, this unrest, where we’re trying to get government put back in the proper role that the founders wanted it to be in, there are those that are kind of co-opting that message on no more kings. But if you drill down, they want government, bureaucrats, politicians to be our kings.
SPEAKER 04 :
You’re absolutely right. And isn’t it ironic how they attempt to change the language? They are the ones who want the authoritarian government. They’re the ones who want a strong figurehead. And I guess we have to give them credit on their protest because when they were done, we still did not have a king.
SPEAKER 19 :
True, true. And so this is going to be really interesting to talk with our fellow colleagues about this at Liberty Toastmasters. And it’s great to have you here. Let’s jump into a few of these things. Housekeeping, the show comes to you 6 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday. The first hour is rebroadcast 1 to 2 in the afternoon, second hour 10 to 11 at night. And that is on all KLZ platforms, KLZ 560 AM, the KLZ website, 100.7 FM, and the KLZ app. I do thank all of you who support us. We’re an independent voice on an independent station that searches for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom. Marshall, if something’s a good idea, you shouldn’t have to use force to implement it. You should be able to engage and communicate freely. in this battle of ideas and persuade people, reason with them, persuade them to ultimately liberty, which is the responsible exercise of freedom.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, of course. And, you know, if something is a good idea, people are already going to be doing it by and large anyway. They don’t have to be forced.
SPEAKER 19 :
That’s a really good point. And socialism ultimately comes down to force. The free stuff is just the carrot to get people to vote for it. I find it crazy that there is potentially a Democrat socialist that will be the mayor of our largest city, New York City. But socialism is not about free stuff. That’s the carrot. Socialism is such a bad idea that ultimately, as we look at history… The Nazis were the National Socialist Party in Germany. Socialism comes down to force. And again, if something’s a good idea, you shouldn’t have to force people to do it, Marshall.
SPEAKER 04 :
And I think that that form of government requires force, not just because people don’t necessarily want to do something, but it requires force in order to keep people compliant. If they start to get out of line, they have to be kind of nudged back into place. They have to be informed of where their location is, where their stature is. Government is always at the top. Government is always ever powerful in a socialist environment. And so you have to have force in order to constantly remind people of that.
SPEAKER 19 :
And you said another word that I think is important, and that’s compliant. And we’ve moved people. We talk about rule of law in America, and I think people want to obey the law. People want to be good citizens. That, again, I think has been used as a cudgel to be compliant. All these little things that people, it becomes more and more onerous. And to become compliant is not free either. So I’m going to be really interested to see what our friends have to say about this.
SPEAKER 04 :
Same here.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay. And let’s see here. Check out our website. That is Kim Monson, M-O-N-S-O-N.com. And while you’re there, make sure you’re signed up for our weekly email newsletter that goes out every Sundays. We do not bombard your email inbox. I bought something recently. I bought a new purse. And my gosh, I get an email every day. I don’t need a new purse, but I get an email every day. We promise we won’t do that, Marshall.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, and it’s absolutely the truth. I’m signed up, as you probably know. And it’s one of the few, I’ll call it a mass mailing. I don’t know how broad your reach is, but it’s one of the few mass mailings that I actually read on a weekly basis, Kim. Thank you. Yeah. Everyone out there, sign up.
SPEAKER 19 :
And it’s very informative, and we have amazing guests. So let’s continue on with all that we’re doing here. First of all, I wanted to say thank you to the Harris family for their goal sponsorship of the show. We will be talking with Susan Harris in the last segment of the second hour to get her read on what is going on out there in her world. But our word of the day. appropriately is declaration spelled d-e-c-l-a-r-a-t-i-o-n eric always wants me to make sure that i spell that it could be an explicit formal announcement either oral or written number two the act or process of declaring that’s not much work when they come up with that as a definition and number three it could be a statement of taxable goods or property subject to duty So the word declaration, our Declaration of Independence, I’d really recommend that people pull that out and read that over this next week. We will be running pre-records next week for the amazing interviews for Independence Week. I’ve named it. It’s not only a day now. It’s a week. What do you think about that?
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s the first I’ve heard of it, I have to be honest. But let me give kudos to Eric. I mean, you know, asking you to spell out the word of the day, I think that’s really valuable. The more that we rely on electronics and the Google machine and things like that, I think the less skilled and the less adept that we are at spelling and using proper grammar. So that’s just great.
SPEAKER 19 :
And I would encourage people to make sure that they learn how to do cursive as well. I didn’t realize we have a generation that was not taught that. But that hand-eye coordination, I think all that’s really important. Okay, I mentioned to you as we were walking in that I had a quote from Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. And Gandalf is the protagonist of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. He’s a wizard, one of the Istari Order, and the leader of the Company of the Ring. Tolkien took the name Gandalf from the Old Norse catalog of dwarves in the Voluspa. And then J.R.R. Tolkien was an English writer and philologist. Maybe I’ll have to use that as a word of the day. First of all, work on pronouncing it. He was the author of the high fantasy works, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. From 1925 to 1945, Tolkien was the Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon and a fellow of Pembroke College, both at the University of Oxford. He then moved within the same university to become the Merton Professor of English Language and Literature and Fellow of Merton College. He held these positions from 1945 to 1959. Then he was part of the group The Inklings. And The Inklings, would you not have loved to have been part of this? The Inklings was an informal literary discussion group associated with J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis at the University of Oxford for nearly two decades. Could you imagine?
SPEAKER 04 :
I know what must have been said in those circles.
SPEAKER 19 :
But that was from the 1930s to late 49. So through World War Two. And they were literary enthusiasts and they were praised for their value of narrative and fiction, encouraged in writing and fantasy. And it says the best known, apart from Tolkien and Lewis, were Charles Williams and Owen Barfield. This, I’ve always, this has just hit me to the heart. And I was with some friends last night and they mentioned Gandalf. And so I said, okay, I’m going to do a Gandalf quote today. And so this is between Gandalf and Frodo in Lord of the Rings. And Frodo says this, he says, I wish it need not have happened in my time, said Frodo. So do I, said Gandalf, and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. What do you think?
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s pretty prescient. You know, I was thinking the other day that I’m really good about sort of romanticizing periods that I didn’t live through. And it occurred to me that, no, this current time, this is really what’s important. So rather than fixating on history, go out and make history. This is the time that we’re in.
SPEAKER 19 :
That’s why I say on the show we were made for this moment. 250 years ago, 1775, they were fighting for the founding of our country. I really believe that we are in the third founding of our country, and we’re engaged in this huge battle of ideas. Regarding our headlines, I can’t – I’m just –
SPEAKER 04 :
You’re excited about New York, aren’t you?
SPEAKER 19 :
Yeah, I am on New York. I used to go back to New York on a regular basis when I was in the ladies’ clothing business. But I wouldn’t go back there right now. But something big happened. I went out and watched the hearing out at Elbert County with Xcel Energy. applying with an incomplete application for a transmission line to go across Elbert County. With this incomplete application, xl energy has actually been out serving condemnation papers on people through imminent domain to take their land for this transmission line so i went out to the hearing on monday afternoon began at one uh one to two o’clock staff made their presentation two o’clock to 3 30 xl made their presentation meanwhile we have a room full of people that have taken time off from work farmers ranchers Time is money. At 3.30, public comment began. I finally spoke a little after 6 and left around 6.30. And credit to the county commissioners, they had let all of the public make their comments. Then they recessed and made a decision, announced it yesterday. They denied the application.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, wow. How about that? I didn’t hear that, Kim. You know, one thing that’s maybe worse than a government that has ultimate use of force is a government-sponsored monopoly.
SPEAKER 19 :
That has force to take people’s lives.
SPEAKER 04 :
That has that same force. That’s right.
SPEAKER 19 :
So stay tuned. This isn’t over, but I congratulate these county commissioners for doing what they needed to do, and that was to represent the people and protect their private property rights. Hear, hear. Yay for them. Yay for them. And then Roger Manga was in yesterday. Roger Manga, State Farm Insurance Team. We, I’m going to start to cry. SPEAKER 11 :
That’s a long story, but I’ll try to give you the short answer. I was in corporate America for 20-plus years. I was at Connect for Health Colorado and got laid off. They laid off a lot of the executives, and I took a job. I won’t say where, but I took a job and I lasted about 90 days and I quit and I said, this is not what I want to do. I’m going to figure it out. And so I figured it out.
SPEAKER 19 :
Wow. And I was talking with an entrepreneur yesterday and it’s not a 40 hour a week work week, is it, when you’re an entrepreneur? No.
SPEAKER 11 :
I wish it was. It is much longer. You know, it depends on, you know, it’s only in a painting company. It depends on the season. So in the summer, it’s pretty long hours. But then around the holidays, things slow down and it probably is a 40 hour week at that point.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay. Okay. Question. Can you do indoor painting in the winter or does the weather factor in that?
SPEAKER 11 :
Oh, absolutely. We can do indoor painting year-round. And so, yeah, winter is a perfect time, as long as it’s not a garage, because then you run into temperature issues with paint not drying, etc. But absolutely. Year-round for interior painting.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay. And then also we’re getting into, well, the Independence Day is next week. I’m naming it Independence Week now, Karen Gorday. But you do holiday lighting, and now is really the time for people to start thinking about that plan as well. I imagine it really ramps up after Labor Day, but it’s probably a good idea to give you a call on that, yes? Yes. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 11 :
Cause I’ll be running ads in July about Christmas in July and, um, try to get people to think about life now versus later, uh, because we can actually install them in October, for example, when the weather is warmer and we put a timer on and then they just have to plug it in when they’re ready. Um, and a lot of customers like that is that they’re ready to go. Um, versus if they wait, um, too far into, let’s say, September or October, they may not get their lights up until Thanksgiving or right after Thanksgiving, depending on the volume.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay. And how can people get more information about you?
SPEAKER 11 :
Sorry, they can go to our website, which is www.paintwithradiant.com or give us a call at 720-940-3887. Okay.
SPEAKER 19 :
Great. Okay, now we’re going to change gears because in your spare time, you have been watching all of this zoning rewrite out in Lakewood, and there’s a lot going on. So just bring us up to speed on that, Karen Gorday.
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes, so there is a lot going on. As you know, there was a planning commission meeting on May 21st. And they introduced 16 amendments that evening. And then there was a city council workshop on June 2nd. And there were at least two other amendments introduced then. The newest version of zoning has not been updated. So we still have a red line version from early May. And the email was sent out yesterday saying the new red line version will not be out until the beginning of July. That is problematic because first reading is July 21st. Wow. And then second reading is August 11th. And the document is 409 pages.
SPEAKER 25 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 11 :
So I don’t understand why we have to wait five to six weeks to get 18 amendments updated in the document to be able to see exactly what’s in that.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, I think it could be a strategy, Karen Gorday. It could be a strategy.
SPEAKER 11 :
It could be, yes. So we are, as citizens, we have arranged a community potluck for this evening at Addenbrook Park. In Lakewood at 530 and it’s concerned citizens. We’ve got a very structured format. We’re going to break into small groups and hear folks ideas on how to get organized, how to get city council to listen to us. not just on zoning but a couple other things and hopefully have some great takeaways for some great community involvement to be able to stand up and say kind of do what littleton did and say we don’t want this okay and so that is today you said correct at 5 30 at aden brook park
SPEAKER 19 :
530 at Attenbrook Park. Okay. Karen Gorday, thank you for doing your civic duty and informing people on what’s going on. And thank you for being a sponsor of the Kim Monson Show. Absolutely. We’re an independent voice on an independent station searching for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom. If something’s a good idea, you should not have to force people to do it. As you all know, I dearly love the Center for American Values. It’s nonpolitical, it’s nonpartisan, but focuses on these foundational principles of honor, integrity, and patriotism. They will be doing a celebration on July 4 in the afternoon. You can get more information by going to AmericanValuesCenter.org. And then Drew Dix, Medal of Honor recipient and co-founder of the center, has started a new podcast, Words from the Silo. And I would highly recommend you check that out. His most recent one is on domestic insurrection. And with all of his experience, his views, I would highly recommend that you check that out. You can do that at AmericanValueCenter.org. My friend Marshall Dawson, you’re the president, the new president, aren’t you, of Liberty Toastmasters Denver?
SPEAKER 04 :
I am the incoming president, that’s right, of Liberty Toastmasters in Denver. We meet at the Independence Institute, first and third Saturdays, 10 a.m.
SPEAKER 19 :
And North meets the second and fourth Saturdays. Are you a member of both groups?
SPEAKER 04 :
I’m a member of both groups, yeah.
SPEAKER 19 :
Here’s something.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, I joined the second club when I was running for office because I knew that I was going to have most weekends tied up, and I didn’t want to lose out on that Toastmasters experience.
SPEAKER 19 :
And learning how to communicate, to reason, persuade, hear all these different views is so important. So what’s our subject today, and who do we have teed up?
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, I’m going to get the word of the day in right off the bat because our subject is the Declaration of Independence and its relevance in 2025. I think that they wrote the Declaration with future generations in mind. So I’m really looking forward to hearing what our colleagues have to say. And first out of the gate is going to be Greg Morrissey. Good morning, Greg.
SPEAKER 15 :
Good morning, Marshall. How are you doing this morning?
SPEAKER 04 :
Fantastic.
SPEAKER 15 :
Me too. Yeah, the… I’d like for people to understand the Declaration of Independence was earned. It wasn’t given. There’s a lot of work, effort, time and risk they took in writing those documents. This should be part of the history program in all schools. They should know the foundation and all people today should be able to quote this stuff from, you know, when they’re talking, when they’re meeting, they’re talking about that type of stuff. It’s an incredible document. And go back and look at the situation they were in when they wrote the document, the things they were being faced with at the time. They were threatened writing this document. And understand how it was written and attach that emotion to the words in it and keep it. It’s got to stay this way.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, absolutely, Greg. And it is relevant to 2025, isn’t it?
SPEAKER 15 :
very relevant. It’s probably just as relevant now as it was back then, especially with the stuff going on in our current government situation, some of the crazy laws they’re passing.
SPEAKER 19 :
Absolutely. So your final thought on this, Greg?
SPEAKER 15 :
Everyone get a copy of the Declaration of Independence and do your best to memorize it and teach it to your children and everyone gets to know it.
SPEAKER 19 :
Greg Morrissey, you always have such great advice. So Marshall, who’s our next guest?
SPEAKER 04 :
See you, Greg. Yeah, our next guest is a member of the Liberty Toastmasters in Denver, and that is Rick Rome. Good morning, Rick.
SPEAKER 14 :
Good morning, Marshall, Kim. I’ll tell you, I was reading through my copy of the declaration last night, and it struck me. It’s not really Christmas in July. It’s more like Festivus in July, because when I was going through the grievances, a lot of this struck me. Here’s a couple of my favorites. He called together legislative bodies and unusual, uncomfortable and distant from the Depository of Public Records for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures. That’s every Zoom meeting that these city councils are engaging right now. Endeavored to present populations of the states for the purpose of obstructing laws of naturalization of foreigners, refusing to pass others and encouraging migrations hither, raising conditions of new appropriations of properties. That’s every sanctuary city that we hear about. Made judges dependent on his will for tenure in their office and the amount of payment for their salaries. How much money did Michon’s daughter make off of his judgments for the DNC and her own commissions? For imposing taxes without consent. It’s not a tax, it’s a fee. For depriving, in many cases, the benefit of trial by jury. How many years did some of these J6 protesters sit in prison without having charges leveled against them or a case being brought before trial? Four years. And of course, my personal favorite, has excited domestic insurrections among us and endeavored to bring the inhabitants of our frontiers the merciless indian slash immigrant savages whose known rule of warfare is indistinguished destruction of all ages sexes and conditions look this stuff does not have the ambiguity of an ostradamus quatrain and it’s no wonder to me that we celebrate this holiday by blowing stuff up now before i get my name on on another watch list i’d like to talk about what we can do we can speak truth it’s truth to power We can talk about how the Jefferson County School District has turned it into a P. Diddy love shack. We can talk about an Arapahoe County District Attorney who’s turned a blind eye to manslaughter from an illegal immigrant who just slaughtered a kid on the sidewalk and just gave him a probationary sentence who’s since been deported. But we can also talk about the good things. like what pro-life activists are doing in the community to try and save the unborn and celebrate that truth as well. And that is how we honor our mutual pledge to each other for our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.
SPEAKER 19 :
Rick Rome, thank you. He’s a little fired up after he read the Declaration.
SPEAKER 04 :
Wait till he gets his coffee.
SPEAKER 19 :
True that. True that. Who’s our next guest?
SPEAKER 04 :
Our next guest is Bennett Rutledge. Hey, good morning, Bennett. What’s on your mind this morning?
SPEAKER 16 :
Good morning. Good morning. Well, I’m still trying to process what Rick Rome just did. And, yeah, the current occupant of the Oval Office has been doing a lot of the stuff that the founders complained about in the Declaration of Independence. And one of the things that he’s been messing with is the process of immigrants and in particular the Refugee Act of 1980 has been sliced to ribbons. The due process described there for actually becoming a naturalized citizen has had pieces cut out of it. Just the way that back on his inauguration day, he started working on his promise to preserve and protect the Constitution by trying to slice out the notion of birthright citizenship.
SPEAKER 19 :
So, yeah, that’s still pertinent today. Most definitely, Bennett Rutledge. And thank you. I appreciate you sharing your views on that, Bennett. Okay. Anything else, Bennett? Okay. I think we lost him.
SPEAKER 16 :
Oh, I’m sure there’ll be more, but he only gave me two minutes.
SPEAKER 19 :
And that’s what we do in Table Topics. So Bennett Rutledge, thank you so much. Okay, who is our next guest?
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, Kim, let me mention real quick since you said table topics. Table talks is one of the sections of our regular meetings that we have where we have the opportunity to speak impromptu. And although there’s a recommended topic, we don’t always recommend it. I said that completely wrong. We don’t require it because we don’t force people to do anything. People are free to talk about whatever topic that they want even though we have the recommended topic. So our topic for today is the Declaration of Independence, and I’m curious what Fred Clifford has to say about this.
SPEAKER 16 :
Hello, this is Fred.
SPEAKER 08 :
Hey, Fred, good morning. Yeah, and by the way, my coffee’s still brewing. So I’m not sure if I’m fully alert yet, but anyway, my coffee’s still brewing. I was thinking about the Declaration of Independence yesterday, and where it specifies that the purpose of government is to secure our rights. And then it lists three as an example. Then it says, among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I was thinking about the words among these, because there’s a lot more than just that. And I was thinking about the fruit of our labor. I really think that’s a natural right. And I don’t know if it’s, you know, the Ninth Amendment mentions natural rights that aren’t enumerated. I think that’s one of them. I was thinking of a time I worked at a travel lodge, and I’d been a busboy at a Ramada Inn, and I went roller skating one night, and I broke my finger. I went to work the next morning, and they wouldn’t let me work with a splint on my finger. So what I do, I went and find another job. And I thought I was going to make more tips. But I didn’t make very many tips. I made a dollar and a quarter hour plus just a few tips here once in a while. But my point is that was the fruit of my labor, and I loved it. I love having the fruit of my own labor. I don’t really want the fruit of somebody else’s labor. And if I want to give part of the fruit of my labor out of love to somebody else, I can do that. That’s a wonderful thing. I donate to charities once in a while, but I don’t appreciate theft. I don’t think the left understands love, but the only thing they seem to understand is theft. So that’s my thing today. The fruit of our labor is very important.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, it is very important. And what happens sometimes, thank you, Fred Clifford, what happens sometimes with government is that you will see interested parties go to government, make a case for whatever it is, is their pet project, and then ask government to take money from other people, the fruit of their labor, to fund that project. And that’s why we need to get rid of government grants, tax credits, tax incentives that we need to make sure that as the founders saw that we would all be treated equally. What a novel concept, Marshall.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, I know. And, you know, the one of the favorite pastimes is to use the force of government to get what you want to take from others. You know that what you have not earned. And that’s what we see so often.
SPEAKER 19 :
And that’s how we got into this situation. So that’s why I think the declaration is very relevant to what is going on in America today. This is such a fascinating conversation with our fellow Liberty Toastmasters. All this happens because of our sponsors. And if you are looking for a mortgage, a new mortgage, second mortgage, or reverse mortgage, reach out to Lorne Levy. And I know I giggled just a little bit because he can help you in all 49 states except New York. With what’s going on in New York, I’m pretty sure he’s glad he’s not doing business there. So again, Lauren Levy for Everything Mortgages.
SPEAKER 22 :
High inflation and increasing property taxes are making it more challenging for seniors to make ends meet. If you’re 62 or older, a reverse mortgage may be the solution for what’s keeping you up at night. It is essential that you understand the process and work with a trusted professional. Mortgage expert Lauren Levy will help you craft solutions for your unique circumstances, whether a mortgage, a second mortgage, or a reverse mortgage. If you’d like to explore what a reverse mortgage can do for you, call Lauren Levy at 303-880-8881. That’s 303-880-8881.

And welcome back to The Kim Monson Show. Be sure and check out our website. That is Kim Monson, M-O-N-S-O-N.com. Sign up for our weekly email newsletter. You can email me at Kim at KimMonson.com as well. Thank you to all of you who support us. We’re an independent voice, and we search for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom. Something’s a good idea. You should not have to force people to do it. And another nonprofit that I dearly love is the USMC Memorial Foundation. The official Marine Memorial is located here in Golden at 6th and Colfax, was dedicated in 1977. It’s time for a facelift and Paula Sarles, the president of the foundation and her team are working diligently to raise the money for the remodel. And I think a great thing during Independence Week would be to make a contribution in honor of all those that have given their lives or been willing to give their lives for our liberty. And what is liberty? It is the responsible exercise of freedom. That website is usmcmemorialfoundation.org. usmcmemorialfoundation.org. In studio with me is my good friend, Marshall Dawson. He is the incoming president of Liberty Toastmasters Denver, which meets the first and third Saturdays of each month.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s right, at 10 a.m. We would love to have guests. If you would show up about 10 minutes early, let us get you a name tag and give you some of our materials. We pride ourselves on starting on time, so we are very prompt.
SPEAKER 19 :
And the Liberty Toastmasters North meets the second and fourth Saturdays of each month in Longmont. And that’s a very vibrant group as well.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s a fantastic organization up there as well. We meet at the Boulder County Republican office. I should say that Toastmasters is a 501c3. We’re not political, but we borrow that space. Second and fourth Saturdays, also at 10.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay. So, Marshall, our suggested subject for Table Topics today.
SPEAKER 04 :
Suggested, yeah. Is the Declaration of Independence, and is it relevant in 2025? Yes.
SPEAKER 19 :
And who’s our next guest?
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, Kim, our next guest is Ross Klopp, who’s a member of the Liberty Toastmasters in Denver. Hey, good morning, Ross.
SPEAKER 10 :
Good morning. Yeah, I thought about this a lot. And we got two big things out of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States. And if you remember, back before the Revolutionary War, the United States was part of a tyrannical regime called the British Empire. They actually did have a Bill of Rights, but it had a lot of flaws to it. And the first flaw that was really glaring when I was looking over their old Bill of Rights from 1689 is there’s absolutely no freedom of religion at all, none. So what would happen is you would be mandated to go to the Anglican Church of England every Sunday. If you didn’t go, you would get fined. And if you couldn’t pay the fine, you would rot in prison. That’s how they handled it. And that continued long after the Revolutionary War. They eventually did change it, but it took a long time. The other big glaring difference is they did have a Second Amendment back in 1689, but it was extremely watered down. And it had a really weird condition that you had to be Protestant to or you didn’t have a second amendment. So basically they were using gun control as religion control. They used their gun control to control people’s religion. And that was actually sort of common back then. England wasn’t the only country doing that. The US is one of the first countries that actually had freedom of religion. And if you look at today, what’s going on in England. They have totally taken away any resemblance of the Second Amendment over there. And you have absolutely no right to defend yourself. The only thing you can do if a criminal wants to do harm to you is run away. And guess what? A lot of people just can’t run very fast or they can’t run at all. You have people with disabilities and so on. And their government is telling people not only that they don’t care, it’s even worse than that. They actually want the criminals to be able to catch the law-abiding citizens because they have absolutely no method for self-defense in England. And it is a huge problem over there. And hopefully we don’t repeat England’s mistakes in the United States. Right now we do have a Second Amendment, and hopefully we keep that for the future. So that’s my little two cents of wisdom. There’s over 1.6 million defensive uses of firearms per year in the United States. That equates to a population that’s about the same as the Denver metro area. So firearms do a lot of good as far as protecting people and protecting people’s rights.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, thank you, Ross Clough. And then I had gotten a meme from one of our listeners that said this. Radical Democrats are suddenly worried that Iranian terror sleeper cells will now attack the U.S. from within. These are the same radical activist Democrats who let them all in and the same radical activist Democrats who want you to be unarmed. I thought, connect those dots. Ross, thank you. I He always brings it. The 1689, I didn’t know anything about this.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. Ross brings it, doesn’t he?
SPEAKER 19 :
He does.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. Well, our next guest is a familiar name to many people who are listening, and that is Bradley Beck. Good morning, Bradley.
SPEAKER 17 :
Well, good morning, Marshall and Kim, and it’s a great day to be in Colorado, be alive, and looking forward to this subject because the American Declaration does have relevance in 2025. Let me share with you a little story. When I was a kid, I played Little League baseball, and my dad was the coach. And you know what he made us do? Every time we practiced, we did the basics. We did throwing we did catching we did batting we did throwing batting catching throwing batting catching so it became like second nature and yet today as we struggle with this question of is the declaration relevant you know we don’t teach our young people the basics they don’t know the throwing the catching the batting in my office And Marshall’s been over there. Well, both of you have been over to my house before. But up in my office, I’ve got quotes all over the place that inspire me. And one of my favorite presidents, Calvin Coolidge, who almost 100 years ago, next year, at the 150th anniversary of the Declaration, said the following. He said, quote, if all men are created equal, that is final. If they are endowed with inalienable rights, that is final. If governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, that is final, end of quote. And then as I look at the poster of Abraham Lincoln and the Gettysburg Address, which is well known, he starts off, quote, Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal, end of quote. And then Thomas Jefferson, the man who was given the task of writing the first drafts of the Declaration of Independence, which, as Kim rightly said, is our duty to understand when you have the definition read. And what is duty? Duty is something that provides our self-mastery, which gets us to the word of happiness. But I’m more focused right now on Jefferson and the Declaration Virginia Declaration of Rights, which is the basis for the first section of the Declaration. And Jefferson wrote of that document, it states, quote, that all men are by nature equally free and independent. You notice the one word that is in all three of those quotes. It’s equal. And what is that? What is equal? It’s level. It’s being a partner, a helper. We are all equally human. And nobody is more human than anybody else. No man is more equal human than a woman. No Jew or Muslim or Christian or Buddhist or Hindu is more human than another. And I think we need to go back to those fundamentals of teaching people about equality. We’re all equal under the law, and we all have equal natural rights. And I think we need to read the Declaration as I do every year, and remind ourselves and our children of posterity that it’s our duty, our responsibility to understand that concept. That’s all I had for you today.
SPEAKER 19 :
Love that, Brad Beck, the basics. Thank you so much. Who’s our next guest, Marshall?
SPEAKER 04 :
You know, and I like the idea of making things second nature as well. So our final guest, our final caller today is going to be Dave Walden. Good morning, Dave.
SPEAKER 18 :
Good morning. Kim and Marshall, you know, as I sign up to do these things and you schedule me last, I’m always trying to come up with something that has not yet been said. Today is particularly difficult, Marshall, because you know, having known me for a while, my thoughts on the Declaration. So at the risk of letting your eyes glaze over, I’ll I’ll repeat some of it, I’m sure. You know, a week from tomorrow, we will celebrate our 249-year-old celebration of No King’s Day with what has gone on here recently. They seem to have forgotten that we had one of those almost 250 years ago. And every year we celebrate it on July 4th. The declaration basically comes down to two distinct documents rolled into one. And the reason that that declaration is so relevant in 2025 is because both parts of it deal with timeless human nature. We are human beings. We have been for thousands of years. and hopefully we will continue to be for thousands more. And because we all are human beings, we have certain tendencies, certain likes, certain dislikes that are common to each of us. Part one of the Declaration that begins with when in the course of human events and ends, in my judgment, with life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, it deals with human nature of the longing to just be left alone, to pursue our happiness as we see fit, mindful of the rights of others to do the same. The second part, it deals with timeless humanity as well. Only what it deals with is the tendency to become tyrannical. Because part two, the biggest part of Jefferson’s declaration, deals with tyranny, in this case the tyranny of the king and crown, because it wouldn’t leave the colonists alone. And so the Declaration, in my mind, is a timeless document because it deals with timeless human nature, both the good aspects and the bad aspects. So next Friday after tomorrow, when I read part one which is what i usually do to whatever audience i’m in i will be reminded of the good aspects of human humanity and that is the desire to live and let live respect the rights of others while we pursue whatever version of our happiness we have determined is important so with that being said i shall celebrate no king’s day as well thank you
SPEAKER 19 :
Oh, Dave Walden, thank you so much. Marshall Dawson, we’ve got about a minute left. Amazing thoughts from our fellow Liberty Toastmasters. How do you want to wrap this up?
SPEAKER 04 :
It really was. Here’s what I want to say, and I’m always afraid that I might be repeating Dave, so maybe I’m paraphrasing a bit. But the Declaration wasn’t simply serving separation papers to King George. The Declaration is really a moral document. It’s a document of morality. It’s like a mission statement. The Declaration, when it talks about our rights, is saying who we are as a people, that we are all created equal. And as Dave said, these are timeless ideas. This is still who we are as a people. We are always seeking for that more perfect union.
SPEAKER 19 :
It’s an amazing document, and we all need to pull that out and read that. Marshall, it’s been so great to have you in studio.
SPEAKER 04 :
I couldn’t have enjoyed it more, Ken.
SPEAKER 19 :
Thank you. And thank you to all of our fellow Liberty Toastmasters. And our quote for the end of the show is from J.R.R. Tolkien. And I pulled it because we are in such a historic time right now. And he said this, only a small part is played in great deeds by any hero. And I thought that that was pretty amazing. So each of us has a part to play. where we’re at this time in history and I don’t know what that looks like in the fabric of history as we move forward but we are called each day to play our part and again it’s great to have you here.
SPEAKER 04 :
Thanks, Kim. And good morning to everyone. Glad you could join us.
SPEAKER 19 :
Absolutely. And so today, my friends, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you. God bless America. Stay tuned for hour number two.
SPEAKER 23 :

And welcome to our number two of the Kim Monson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You each are treasured, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today, strive for excellence. Take care of your heart, your soul, your mind and your body. My friends, we were made for this moment in history. Thank you to the team. That’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Teresa, Amanda, and all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. Happy Thursday. What an amazing first hour with my fellow Liberty Toastmasters, Marshall Dawson in studio, Karen Gorday, owner of Radiant Painting and Lighting, and what she and her colleagues are doing in Lakewood to shed light on what’s going on. Pretty powerful first hour, wouldn’t you say, Producer Joe?
SPEAKER 05 :
Absolutely. I would say it was definitely a powerful hour. And happy Thursday to you as well, Kim.
SPEAKER 19 :
And we’ve got another great hour planned for you, so stay tuned. Fasten your seatbelts. I want to say thank you to the Harris family for their goal sponsorship of the show. We’ll talk with Susan Harris a little bit later. Make sure that you are signed up for our weekly email newsletter, which you can do at our website, which is KimMonson, M-O-N-S-O-N.com. And the show comes to you 6 to 8 a.m. Monday through Friday. First hour is rebroadcast 1 to 2 in the afternoon, second hour 10 to 11 at night. And that is on all KLZ 560 platforms, which is KLZ 560 AM, KLZ 100.7 FM, the KLZ website, and the KLZ app. And then you can listen to us on Spotify and iTunes as well. We search for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through this lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom. If something’s a good idea, you should not have to force people to do it. And… We focus on the issues on the show, not the personalities. We’ll mention the people pushing issues, but we want to stay focused on those issues. And we want to look at these issues through reason and then be able to persuade. We’ll have an understanding of the issues and then persuade our colleagues and our friends and our family. To be moving towards liberty. We’ve been losing liberty. We’ve moved to a compliant society instead of a liberty-loving society. And we need to reclaim that, particularly as we’re coming in on our Declaration of Independence, celebrating that on July 4. And, of course, I’m renaming it Independence Week because we have all kinds of great shows that we’ll be broadcasting regularly. for Independence Week. Our word of the day is declaration. And Eric always says, Kim, make sure that you spell that. So the word of the day is declaration. D-E-C-L-A-R-A-T-I-O-N. It’s a noun. It could be an explicit, formal announcement, either oral or written. Number two, it could be an act or process of declaring. Or number three, a statement of taxable goods or properties subject to duty. So I’d highly recommend declaring that you pull out your Declaration of Independence. It doesn’t take that long to read it. Of course, there’s the Declaration, and then there’s the usurpations, of which Rick Rome in the first hour mentioned some of those usurpations. They said to King George, these are the reasons that we are breaking up. And as you look at those reasons, there’s a lot of similarities to this big, huge government that we have, and it all works together on the local, county, state, and national level. We need to get government back in its proper box at the local, county, state, and national level. Our quote of the day, I was with some friends last night, and one of them quoted Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. He’s the wizard in The Lord of the Rings, which is he’s the protagonist in J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels, both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and, of course, Tolkien. He was born in 1892. He died in 1973, and he was a professor there. At, let’s see, at Oxford, I think. Let me, yeah, at Oxford. Also Merton, at Merton College. And he was part of the Inklings. He and C.S. Lewis were part of a group that got together for, gosh, 19 years. to talk about literature and to, oh, be a fly on the wall there to hear what they all had to say. But this is what Gandalf said. He said, and this is his conversation with Frodo. He says, “‘I wish it need not have happened in my time,’ said Frodo. “‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, “‘and so do all who live to see such times. “‘But that is not for them to decide. “‘All we have to decide is what to do “‘with the time that is given us.'” And we are in a historic time. We’re in the third founding of our country. It’s a battle of ideas. America was founded on an idea that all men are created equal with these rights from God of life, liberty, pursuit of happiness. And that idea should be conserved and preserved. And we are in a battle of ideas to make that happen at this particular point in time. Hooters Restaurants has been a great sponsor of both the Kim Monson Show and America’s Veterans Stories for many years. It’s important. It’s an American story about freedom and free markets and capitalism and PBIs, those politicians, bureaucrats, and interested parties that want to use power to control our lives. But Hooters Restaurants has five locations, Loveland, Aurora, Lone Tree, Westminster, and Colorado Springs. Great specials Monday through Friday for lunch and happy hour. And their nachos are particularly very yummy. So be sure to check that out. Next thing, congratulations to the Elbert County commissioners who voted unanimously to deny Excel the permission on their transmission line. They had applied for this transmission line to go across Elbert County. And amazingly, the application was incomplete, but they wanted the commissioners to approve it. Then secondly, even though the application is not approved, they’ve been serving Excel condemnation papers saying that they will take the land via eminent domain. And I made public comments when I went out to the meeting on – gosh, was it Monday, Tuesday? Now I can’t remember – And I said, so with eminent domain, which is in the Constitution, it says that if land is to be taken for governmental purposes, that the owner of the land should receive just compensation. Right. Well, apparently there’s a couple of things going on. First of all, some of the landowners commented that they thought that Xcel Energy was lowballing on that just compensation. So that’s not fair. But secondly, to take land, a tangible piece of property that typically will increase in value, and replace it with dollars, which is decreasing in value because of inflation and government policy, that does not seem like just compensation to me. But anyway, the Albert County commissioners voted unanimously to deny this application, which this is huge. This isn’t over. So this is a stay tuned kind of a thing. But it is pretty darn exciting that the county commissioners realized, as I mentioned in my interview, public comments that they’re as elected representatives their job is to protect the property rights of their citizens they do not work for excel and so this is pretty huge i did want to mention another headline from and this is from bloomberg and it says trump policies will cut deficits up to 11 trillion dollars white house economist says Now, Trump has been getting beaten up by both sides of the aisle about this excessive spending, these deficits. And we’ve got to get this turned around in order for us to continue as a country. and had had Wade Miller on with the Center for Renewing America on a few weeks ago, and he said that the Congressional Budget Office uses a static modeling, economic modeling process when they then come out and say that you put in X, you put in X, then the deficit’s going to go up. But our economy is not static. And so I thought this was – and he said that actually Trump, they are working to get these deficits more under control and the spending. So this is from Bloomberg. Again, this was published just – hold on here. I think it was just yesterday. I’m not getting the date here. Okay. One more time. I’d love to give you the exact date on this if I can. They should have this in the byline. Well, they said it was published 23 hours ago, so – Let’s go with it. President Donald Trump’s policies will reduce the U.S. fiscal deficits by up to $11 trillion over the coming decade, according to the White House’s chief economist, a projection that defies analysts who say government debt is poised to climb to record highs in coming years. We calculate that overall the reduction in deficits as a result of the total suite of the president’s policies is going to be roughly $8.5 to $11 trillion over the 10-year budget window. Stephen Moran, chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, told reporters on a call yesterday. Those are very big numbers. It says about half the savings, $3 to $5 trillion, would come from faster economic growth. thanks to the pending Republican tax cut bill, along with deregulation efforts. He also cited a $3 trillion bump in revenues from Trump’s tariffs hikes, referring reporters to the CBO office’s recent calculation. Reduced debt loads, thanks in part to those savings, will help to bring down the U.S. Treasury’s interest costs by approximately $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion. I love this report. The big, beautiful bill. We’ve got a few things I’m concerned about. One, and I’m going to try to get her on the week after Independence Week, is regarding what could be happening in education and to homeschoolers. So we need to – there’s something there that could be negative for them. Also, we’ll talk with Alicia Garcia and Teddy Collins regarding suppressors, firearm suppressors. I’m concerned about that. I am also concerned about the continuing tax credits issue. for CO2 pipelines and want to get that out. We should not be having tax credits and grants because that is picking winners and losers. Government’s not supposed to be doing that. And then I am concerned about the 10-year carve-out on these data centers on AI. So there’s some things we need to work on on that big, beautiful bill, but it looks like there could be some very good things that are happening with that as well. i did mention in the first hour that yesterday we recorded with roger mangan state farm insurance agent and great sponsor of the show an america’s veteran stories show and it’s a he talked about his stepfather who he dearly loved his stepfather enlisted at the age of 24 in 1942 to fight in World War II. He was sent boots on the ground to North Africa, then came over, let’s see, he fought at Anzio, Salerno, the southern assault, or not assault, freedom, freeing of France, and then all the way up to Dachau, freeing Dachau. It is a powerful story. You will not want to miss it. It is 3 to 4 p.m. this upcoming Sunday. And Roger and his team are really great sponsors of the show. And if you reach out to them and bundle your insurance together, you might be able to save some money. You won’t know unless you call them. It’s a complimentary appointment. How are you doing, Kim? Doing well. And Teddy, great to have you as well.
SPEAKER 09 :
Thank you for having us, Kim.
SPEAKER 19 :
So you have founded, I’ll go to you first, Alicia. You founded the Second Syndicate. Explain how, why, what’s the latest?
SPEAKER 11 :
So my business partners and I, Spartan Defense, came up with the Second Syndicate in response to the onslaught of gun control that has been happening in Colorado recently. for the past few years. We work together for other organizations and for other things that we fight about. And we said, you know what? The Second Amendment is in such duress right now. We need a come to Jesus moment for the people. And we said, well, if we’re not part of the solution or part of the problem, so let’s be part of the solution. And let’s see what we can do about building a grassroots movement that’s not just for gun shops or firearms educators. It’s for everybody involved and every person that wants to champion the Second Amendment and resurrect and basically humanize the Second Amendment in Colorado again.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, and it is really under assault here. And I had read this meme. Let me get to it, Alicia, in the first hour. And this was from a listener. It said, This is the same radical activist Democrats who let them all in. And this is the same radical activist Democrats who want you to be unarmed. And I want to make a point here. This Democrat Party, the people that are in control of this Democrat Party, is not the Democrat. These are not the Democrats of JFK, Tip O’Neill, any of those. This is radical activists. But I thought that meme was very telling, Alicia.
SPEAKER 11 :
Indeed. And, you know, The reason for self-defense shouldn’t be because there’s a threat. It should be because you understand that it is your human and your civil right. A lot of people often say to me that, oh, you know, you champion the Second Amendment because you’ve probably been a victim of crime or you’ve experienced a tragedy. And the entire point is to prevent from having to be a victim in the first place. We shouldn’t have to explain to people or justify to people why we are choosing to exercise our civil right.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, and it is, the Second Amendment is in the Bill of Rights, in the Constitution, to protect the first. I love the fact that you say that. And that is freedom of speech and freedom of religion. And in the first hour, Ross Clough, my fellow Liberty Toastmaster, talked about the freedom of religion and how the Second Amendment is so important to that. But, Teddy Collins, before we continue our discussions on other things, tell us a little bit about Spartan Defense.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, so Spartan Defense was originally founded in 2010 as a training company, and that was originally founded in Texas. We moved out here in 2015 and started Spartan Defense as the physical brick and mortar, as you know it today, around 2017. And, yeah, been going ever since. So, yeah, it’s locally owned and operated, one of the largest locally owned and operated stores in the state of Colorado that’s actually family owned and not a large corporation.
SPEAKER 19 :
And where are you located?
SPEAKER 09 :
We’re located in Colorado Springs. And I mean, we do pretty much everything defense related, whether it be training from lethal to less lethal, we offer it all.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, and Alicia, you train. Do you train primarily women or co-ed men, women and both? What do you do?
SPEAKER 11 :
I actually get a huge handful of men. So I teach concealed carry classes once a week. So we’ll actually either on Saturdays and Sundays with my training company, the concealed carry class of Denver. And I have about anywhere from eight to 14 students in each one of my classes. I also do court ordered classes. There’s a lot of people that are, you know, do dumb things with firearms and they are court ordered to take, educational classes, they come to me and we help remedy that ignorance and carelessness and implement, you know, knowledge and discipline with firearms.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, I think that’s really important. And then creating and building the second syndicate last time that you were on, we talked a little bit about you’re going to have membership. I know that some of our listeners wanted to make contributions. How can that happen, Teddy?
SPEAKER 09 :
We have a few ways to make contributions. You can go to our website, the2ndsyndicate.com. That’s the2ndsyndicate.com. We do have it up and running where you can actually donate through the website there. We also have a Bonfire account with awesome Second Amendment shirts that you can purchase, and those proceeds go back to the organization. which is a not-for-profit, and those proceeds are used to fight for the Second Amendment. So those are a couple ways that you can donate to the cause. And with the shirts, of course, you can actually get something that’s pretty cool. We’ve got some awesome, awesome shirts out there that I think people will really like that are pro-2A.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, and we need to realize that here in Colorado, this radical activist legislature and governor are not going to stop. They are trying to take away our Second Amendment by a thousand cuts. So we’re going to continue the discussion with Alicia Garcia and Teddy Collins. We want to get an update on what’s happening regarding something I don’t think that They intended with the Big Beautiful Bill, and Alicia Garcia has written an excellent essay that’s at our website, The Big Beautiful Backfire, regarding firearm suppressors. So we’ll see if there’s been some progress that has been made on that. And all of this happens because of our sponsors, and one of those is the Second Syndicate.
SPEAKER 06 :
The Second Amendment was established to ensure that all individuals have the right to resist oppression, stand firm against government overreach, and protect our ability to defend ourselves, our families, and our freedoms. Today, that right is under relentless attack in Colorado. Colorado’s premier grassroots Second Amendment organization, the Second Syndicate, is on the front lines, fighting to preserve and protect your constitutional rights. We expose the most pressing threats to the Second Amendment and provide the education, resources, and tools to stay informed, empowered and prepared. Join the movement. Protect your rights. Visit the second syndicate dot com. That’s the second syndicate dot com, where the second is first.

Thank you to all of you who support us. We’re an independent voice and we search for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force, force versus freedom. If something’s a good idea, shouldn’t have to force people to do it. And one of the nonprofits that I dearly love is the USMC Memorial Foundation. They are raising money for the remodel of the Marine Memorial. which is out at 6th and Colfax. It was dedicated in 1977, and it is time for a remodel on that. Paula Sarles, who’s the president of the foundation and her team are working diligently on raising the money to make all that happen. And as we’re coming into Independence Week, Our celebration of our Declaration of Independence, as my fellow Liberty Toastmasters indicated, that was the original No Kings Day. It would be great to make a contribution to honor those that have given their lives or been willing to give their lives for our liberty. What is liberty? It’s the responsible exercise of freedom. And that website is usmcmemorialfoundation.org, usmcmemorialfoundation.org. I’m pleased to have on the line with me Alicia Garcia and Teddy Collins. They are the co-founders of the Second Syndicate, as well as with Spartan Defense, which is located in Colorado Springs. Alicia Garcia, we had published your essay regarding the Big Beautiful Backfire. And apparently in the Big Beautiful Bill, there was some… unintended consequences that I know that you and Teddy have been working on regarding firearm suppressors. For those that may be new to this issue, set it up for us and then give us the latest.
SPEAKER 11 :
Okay, so we have the Big Beautiful Bill that is taking over D.C. right now, talking about tons of different things. Well, one of the things that was implemented and the wording that was included in the Big Beautiful Bill was language from the hearing protection act and also the short act two acts that are affecting gun ownership in the united states so the hearing protection act has a few sections of that which would just necessarily take suppressors or what you know people come and refer to as silencers or cans as we call them in the industry off of the national firearms act that way they can be deregulated as a so we don’t have to continue to pay a 200 tax stamp and have access to those in that manner as well as short barrel rifles and things that nature in the short act one of the things that we had found working with our attorney with an organization that we also work with the colorado federal firearms licensee association Our attorney, James Cook, we discovered that, indeed, even though we want to defund the NSA and, you know, start treating firearms and firearms accessories as they should be as freely accessible tools, one of the things that was written in there is in Section 2 of the Hearing Protection Act, they wanted to take away that tax stamp. So right now, if you go and buy a suppressor, since the 1930s, a tax stamp is required to get that suppressor, which is $200. It has been $200 since the 1930s. So imagine that being an extremely demanding barrier from the 1930s. That’s about a $4,000 difference in inflation, if you think about it. So it still is $200. So what we want to do is take that $200 away and make it more accessible to people to get these suppressors. Well, one of the issues is that the way the bill was written at the time that we wrote the article and published that information is that Section 3 and Section 4 of the Hearing Protection Act was not included in the Big Beautiful Bill language. What essentially is going to be negative for Colorado is that the way Colorado law is written, because of course we have a state that is focused on tyranny and gun grabbing and preventing Colorado from being able to access these tools, they defined suppressors as dangerous weapons. Well, by defining them as dangerous weapons, it also says that in order to acquire these quote-unquote dangerous weapons, you need to follow a permitting process through the state of Colorado, the way that they want you to, through the law, to have them. Well, currently, the way the state of Colorado is recognizing that permit, they’re saying the tax stamp suffices that permit. Well, by taking away the tax stamp, which, yay, we do want to do, It also takes away the way to appease the tyrannical textual law that we have in Colorado. So without a way to appease that law, it would make it that suppressors would become a classified felony and be unobtainable because there’s no way to appease that the way it’s written. So what we propose is that You can use the ATF form 4473, which we want to be very clear, we are not okay with asking the government for any type of permitting, but it is a process that is in place right now that would allow people to still be able to continue to access these devices and not completely disarm you know, millions of people nationwide. So not only would this affect states like Colorado, it would affect states like Georgia. And we’ve identified at least 17 other states that have language in state-level language that would prevent them from accessing suppressors. So we wrote a letter to Congress where we had pretty much every Republican in the state house sign and a few senators and a couple other 2A organizations in Colorado saying, say, hey, you know what, please put back the language for the Section 3 and Section 4 of the Hearing Protection Act in the Big Beautiful Bill. By adding Section 4, which we really want them to do, what that would do is give the federal preemption back to the government. So taking away states like Colorado’s ability to override federal law and write laws like Senate Bill 25003 and You know, the conceal carry laws that go into effect in January or July 1st of this year and state permitting for gun shops that would go into effect, you know, July 1st of this year as well. So we want a way to combat those things. So that’s why we wrote that article to kind of clue America and Colorado into what the constraints of this is and encourage everybody to contact. you know, their federal level representatives and say, hey, we want these freedoms, but we want them for everyone, not just for some. Include this language in the big, beautiful bill, including also the short act. which would give power back to the people to obtain and possess short-barreled rifles and things of that nature as well.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay. Alicia Garcia, I know it’s complicated. Thank you for that synopsis of what’s going on. So Teddy Collins with Spartan Defense, what’s your ear to the ground? Are they making progress on this with the Big Beautiful Bill?
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes, so we have had some feedback, and it wasn’t oversight. They did not realize that we got the feedback like, oh, my gosh, we didn’t realize that this was going to do this to so many states and that there would be so many states in which suppressors wouldn’t, and SBRs and things of that nature would be illegal because of state laws that are currently in existence. And to be honest, you know, we mentioned Georgia, but there’s also states like California, Washington State, Oregon, Illinois, places you would expect. And in those states, you don’t have, you know, two-way friendly legislators. You don’t have a legislator that’s going to be willing to go in and change it. So it’s pretty important to get this stuff added. So we have seen them add the SHORT Act to the bill at this point. We are still waiting for Section 3 and 4 of the Hearing Protection Act to be added, but from our understanding, it’s in the works. Let’s hope that it’s in the final draft of the bill. Otherwise, there’s going to be a huge issue with suppressors here in Colorado. But for the short act, just to bring up kind of an interesting issue. interesting situation it could put us in here is since the short act does contain preemption, federal preemption for SBRs, which would not allow the state to further regulate SBRs past what federal law allows or disallows, it could put us into an interesting quandary when SB003 goes into effect next year in September, because we’ll have a bill that essentially makes nearly any semi-automatic require a state license with, you know, three days and close to 24 hours total of training when you include the prerequisite course from Parks and Wildlife on top of the two-day advanced course that they’re going to require to take. And it’s going to require that license for some automatics, but if the short act does stay in the Big Beautiful Bill and pass, you’re going to have it where they can’t require that license for for SBRs. So you might not be able to go out and buy a 16-inch AR-15, but you would be able to go out and buy a 10-inch AR-15 without a state-required license. So it might create an interesting conflict between state and federal laws, which would be a great thing for the courts to be able to take down SB-003. Okay. And
SPEAKER 19 :
Because there cannot be a legal challenge to Senate Bill 25003 until it takes effect. But this could create something that something might happen to try to get rid of 003 before that. Am I hearing that correctly?
SPEAKER 09 :
At least for now. because the preemption clauses in the Hearing Protection Act and in the Short Act would specifically be for those two items, short barrel rifles and or shotguns and suppressors. It wouldn’t be for all SB003 because regular… rifle length, you know, regular length items would not be affected by the preemption clause in this bill. It would only be the items that specifically are stated in the bill with the Hearing Protection Act and the Short Act, so SBRs and suppressors.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 09 :
Short barrel rifles for the layman’s terms.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay. And then, Teddy, this came in from the text line. One of our listeners said, we don’t need badges and we don’t need permits. And I think, well, Alicia, I’ll send that over to you. I think that’s what you said as well, but you’re trying to figure out, as we’re working to get to a point where we don’t need badges and permits, how we can still function. Yes? Yes. Indeed.
SPEAKER 11 :
So by design, I mean, I know I teach concealed carry classes and things of that nature, but I’m a true constitutionalist at heart. And I believe truly that asking the state for permission for a civil right is redundant. And that’s exactly what the state of Colorado is imposing on Coloradans. In fact, July 1st of this year, so in a stone’s throw away of time here, they are actually implementing the new concealed carry laws that will be affecting Colorado. So for quite some time in Colorado, all you needed to do was take a four-hour class that’s just classroom information with a certified instructor, someone like myself, receive your certificate, and then you were able to get that paperwork as long as you weren’t a federally prohibited person and be issued your state concealed carry permit. Well, Colorado legislators decided that that wasn’t enough. So they updated its concealed carry laws with House Bill 24-11-74 back in 2024. and the implementation date is July 1st of 2025. So what they’re doing is they’re not only imposing new hoops for instructors like myself to appease, they’re also implementing a eight-hour mandatory class, a written exam that also has to be passed as an addition to a live fire requirement that we, the instructor, have to supervise and procure for the student that has them shooting at least 50 rounds downrange with a proficiency level of accuracy. And for us to say, OK, you’ve done all these things. Now here is your certificate. So now you can go to the state and ask them for permission to exercise your constitutional right.
SPEAKER 19 :
It’s crazy. That’s why the work that you’re doing at the second syndicate is so important. Teddy and Alicia, it is great to be partners with you in this this fight to reclaim our constitutional rights. Teddy, how can people get more information about the second syndicate?
SPEAKER 09 :
I mean, they can go to thesecondsyndicate.com, the2ndsyndicate.com. You can check us out on YouTube. We do podcasts every other week with important guests. We had Josh Griffin on last night, who’s running for governor of the state of Colorado. He’s a Republican. uh… we’ve got mike swan we’ve added numerous other republican uh… party officials on the and uh… other pro to a people on the and just it just to provide uh… submission query i don’t know how much time we have left your camp but just provide some additional query for the uh… the comment you got on the text line there we’re not the again we’re not advocating for a permits here all we’re trying to do is get the preemption clause added so that state law does not take away your right because as it is currently in colorado If the preemption is not added to the big, beautiful bill for suppressors and for the short at and for short barrel rifles, you will not be able to purchase a suppressor in the state of Colorado going forward at any point. Your right to purchase a short barrel rifle and or suppressor will be taken away because of an oversight of this bill. So we’re not asking for any additional permits or anything of that nature. All we’re asking is for that preemption clause to be added so that the state cannot have laws that affect your rights.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay. Teddy Collins and Alicia Garcia with the Second Syndicate and Spartan Defense, thank you so much. We will talk next week.

You can email me at Kim at KimMonson.com as well. And thank you to all of you who support us. We’re an independent voice, an independent station searching for truth and clarity by looking at these issues through the lens of freedom versus force. Force versus freedom is something that’s a good idea. You should not have to force people to do it. You may want to spend Independence Day down in Pueblo and visit the Center for American Values. And they’ve got a celebration going on down at the center. And you can get more information about what’s going on at AmericanValuesCenter.org. As I mentioned, the show comes to you because of our amazing sponsors. One of those sponsors is the Harris family. We have Susan Harris on the line with us. Susan, welcome. Good morning, Kim. How are you? Well, I am well. And Susan, you are watching politics. You live down in Arizona now. And so what’s going on with Arizona? And you watch California. Just wanted to get your read on current events. What’s your thoughts?
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, well, we continue to fight the fight down here, just like you in Colorado. Luckily, hope or I would say hopefully and I’m very hopeful because of the people that are working so hard here in Arizona, we will push back all of the advances that the Democrats have made in our state. And we’re we’re really working hard to just keep all of those woke. slash socialist policies out of our state. And we definitely were behind the eight ball at first. But I think we’re going to be able to maintain our conservative values here in Arizona.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, that means people probably want to move to Arizona. We’re having quite a time up here in Colorado, Susan Harris, and you lived here for many years. So I know you do watch Colorado.
SPEAKER 12 :
I do, and my son still lives there and works there, and it’s very disheartening to see what’s happened to Colorado. It’s one of the big reasons we moved away. We saw it happening. We felt it happening. We actually, quite frankly, didn’t feel that we could speak freely in our own neighborhood. So it was time to leave and find a place where we could express our values independently, And feel freedom again. And that was back during COVID. And boy, when we got to Arizona, the atmosphere was so different that we realized this was the place for us, at least for right now. But we do care deeply about Colorado.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, and I think that’s one of the reasons, and we really appreciate it that you sponsor the show, is because we’re engaged in this. It’s really an epic battle of ideas that’s occurring in our country right now. Susan Harris.
SPEAKER 12 :
It really is. And it’s across the nation, especially in the large cities. And, you know, we’re seeing that on so many levels. New York City, you know, shockingly is probably going to have a mayor that’s Only been in our country for seven years, I believe, and he’s a Muslim and he’s a socialist slash communist. I’m not sure what the difference between those are, but it’s just shocking to me that the citizenry of New York City, this is their choice. Well, and…
SPEAKER 19 :
And what they used, though, was this ranked choice voting system, which basically it means that a computer starts to redistribute votes until they get to somebody that’s gotten over 50 percent of the votes. And that was on the ballot here in Colorado, this last election cycle. Kent Theory, very wealthy guy. put lots of money into it. In fact, I think there was about $14 million that came in to try to get the people of Colorado to vote for that. We came out as a strong voice against it, and also with the voter’s guide. Amazingly, the people of Colorado defeated that, but it will be back. Something, some iteration will be back. But this is a way that ultimately, I think it takes away the voices of the people, Susan Harris.
SPEAKER 12 :
I agree. That’s been debated here in Arizona very vehemently, and we’re continuing to fight that battle as well. So a lot of money is being poured into all these campaigns to try to get that voting put into place because they know it will accomplish control, which is what they want, and take away the voice of the people. So it’s very disturbing, and we continue to fight that battle here as well. One thing I will say, it’s been an amazing week internationally. I’m just so pleased with the foreign policy that’s been happening across the world with President Trump’s leadership. And just as you have been on the air this morning, they held a news conference with Pete Hegseth and the generals that were in charge of the Iranian bombing. And they went over in detail the results of that bombing. And I guess I wasn’t aware of this, but for 15 years, our military has been studying that Fordow site. and developing the exact weapons that they used to attack that facility. And it was, you know, I’m just so grateful that this information has now gotten out to the public and that it’s been made clear that that attack was very successful, very targeted. It’s like threading a needle in this type of military warfare, and it was very successful. So that was very encouraging that that information is now out in the public and that our military is on it. You know, they’ve been working on these issues behind the scenes covertly for many, many years in case we ever needed these types of weapons. And we had them at the ready. So I just… I just am very encouraged on that level and the incredible leadership that the United States is now guiding really the global stage with and getting all the NATO countries to agree to spend more money and to come to the table and support not just what we do around the world, but their own values, put their money where their mouths are, and not just rely on us for everything.
SPEAKER 19 :
Can you imagine the pressure on President Trump with all these different issues? And a couple of days after this attack upon these nuclear facilities in Iran, there were the mainstream media was saying, oh, the mission was not accomplished. They didn’t knock everything out. Again, I questioned that reporting. It’s like, how did they know as they’re coming out with those reports? And so I think you bring up a really, really important point, Susan Harris.
SPEAKER 12 :
Yeah, I don’t think they do know. And, you know, I think it’s been made clear now that whole mission was amazingly accomplished with no leaks. I mean, no one knew what they were doing.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, he didn’t tell the Democrats. That’s why.
SPEAKER 12 :
That’s exactly right. That’s exactly right. I mean, it’s so obvious. And they’re all angry that they weren’t told. And now it’s like, well, yeah, because you don’t maintain your integrity through the process. So you can’t be told. You can’t be trusted with international secrets. And I just think it’s, I find it very fascinating the way he handled it and the way he is handling it with such, I hate to say it, but grace, because you would, you know, a typical person under the pressure that he’s under would probably be way more emotional. And he is just, stands so strong in his convictions for our country. And I just find it fascinating.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, we are in remarkable times, and it’s a great journey that we’re on right now. When I say on the show, Susan Harris, that we’re made for this moment, I’m serious. I really think that we’re in the third founding of our country, and I really appreciate you and your sponsorship of the show. Thank you, because it’s of you and our other sponsors that our independent voice is out there.
SPEAKER 12 :
Well, it’s our pleasure to do it, Kim. And we just want to support you 100% with everything that you do to get the word out of what is actually going on. People do not, they don’t have time to do the research and reporting and gain an understanding that you give with your reporting on what is going on at the local level. And that is where the real battles are fought. It’s at the local level. And so we just greatly appreciate everything that you do.
SPEAKER 19 :
Well, Susan Harris, I wish you and your family a very happy Independence Day and a happy Independence Week. Thank you so much, Kim. Thank you. And our quote for the end of the show is J.R.R. Tolkien. He said, only a small part is played in great deeds by any hero. So today, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you, and God bless America.
