SPEAKER 13 :
It’s the Kim Monson Show, analyzing the most important stories.
SPEAKER 08 :
An early childhood taxing district? What on earth is that?
SPEAKER 13 :
The latest in politics and world affairs.
SPEAKER 08 :
I don’t think that we should be passing legislation that is so complicated that people kind of throw up their hands and say, I can’t understand that.
SPEAKER 13 :
Today’s current opinions and ideas.
SPEAKER 08 :
And it’s not fair just because you’re a big business that you get a break on this and the little guy doesn’t.
SPEAKER 13 :
Is it freedom or is it force? Let’s have a conversation.
SPEAKER 08 :
Indeed, let’s have a conversation. And welcome to the Kim Monson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You eat your treasure, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today, strive for excellence. Take care of your heart, your soul, your mind, and your body. My friends, we were made for this moment in history. And thank you to the team. That’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Teresa, Amanda, and all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. Happy Friday, Producer Joe. Happy Friday, Kim. and we’ve got a jam-packed show planned for you today so just fasten your seat belts wanted to say thank you to the harris family for their gold sponsorship of the show they have been sponsors for many many years and we will talk with susan harris in the second hour just to get her perspective on what is happening out there she lives in arizona and i always am interested to know what’s happening down there as well so again thank you to the harris family for their gold sponsorship of the show And also wanted to mention Hooters restaurants. They have locations in Loveland, Westminster and on Parker Road and great specials for lunch and happy hour. And be sure and and give them some of your business, because right now it’s it’s a little interesting in Colorado regarding our restaurants, because all of the things that have happened at the state legislature, as well as, you know, Regulations make it very difficult for business in Colorado right now, and the state legislature is in their special session. We’re going to be talking a lot about that with our different guests today. But do check out Hooters Restaurants and How I Got to Know Them. It’s an important story about freedom and free markets and capitalism and PBIs trying to exert control. And so be sure and check that out. Let’s see. Next thing I wanted to get to was our word of the day. And I was doing some Bible reading yesterday and the word behold was a word that I thought was really interesting. And I thought the definition I hadn’t really ever thought. Well, I guess I hadn’t really ever thought about it. But it is when, of course, the angels see the shepherds behold, use the word behold. It’s an intransitive verb and to see, to look upon or gaze. And so, for example, I beheld a figure in the distance. And in the Bible, what it says is pay careful attention to see what follows. And so I would say that we are in this time in our country. So behold, what is happening with, I think, the Trump administration working to reclaim the American idea for the American people. And so behold, what’s going on. Our quote of the day is, and this is Friday, so we always are using a quote from the Medal of Honor quote book, which I have right here in my hand. It’s an inspiration from America’s military heroes. It’s published by the Center for American Values, which is located in Pueblo. and you can check it out and order it by going to their website that is americanvaluecenter.org and you can also see all the different events that they have coming up but this is from uh the quote is from john l lefato and united states air force medal of honor recipient born 1945 died in 2000 and this is what he did and what he was awarded the medal for It says, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life, above and beyond the call of duty, Sergeant Lefitow, then Airman First Class, U.S. Air Force, distinguished himself by exceptional heroism while assigned as a loadmaster aboard an AC-47 aircraft flying a night mission in support of the Longbin Army Post. Sergeant Lefitow’s aircraft was struck by a hostile mortar round. The resulting explosion ripped a hole two feet in diameter through the wing and fragments made over 3500 holes in the fuselage. All occupants of the cargo compartment were wounded and helplessly slammed against the floor and fuselage. The explosion tore an activated flare from the grasp of a crew member who had been launching flares to provide illumination for Army ground troops engaged in combat. Sergeant LaFetal, then stunned by the concussion of the blast and suffering from over 40 fragment wounds in the back and legs, staggered to his feet and turned to assist the man nearest to him who had been knocked down and was bleeding heavily. As he was moving his wounded comrade forward and away from the open cargo compartment door, he saw the smoking flare ahead of him in the aisle. Realizing the danger involved and completely disregarding his own wounds, Sergeant Lefitau started toward the burning flare. The aircraft was partially out of control and the flare was rolling wildly from side to side. Sergeant Lefitau struggled forward despite the loss of blood from his many wounds and the partial loss of feeling in his right leg. Unable to grasp the rolling flare with his hands, he threw himself bodily upon the burning flare. Hugging the deadly device to his body, he dragged himself back to the rear of the aircraft and hurled the flare through the open cargo door. At that instant, the flare separated and ignited in the air, but was clear of the aircraft. Sergeant Lefitel, by his selfless and heroic actions, saved the aircraft and its entire crew from certain death and destruction. Sergeant Lafertau’s gallantry, his profound concern for his fellow men at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest tradition of the U.S. Air Force and reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces of this country. And his quote is this. He says, the American flag represents all of us and should be treated with respect. And that is why what happened with Colin Kaepernick during the summer of love, if you will, what happened with the kneeling for the flag is a direct disrespect for the men that have done such things as Sergeant Lafitteau. And that is why we must honor the American flag. And so that was by design to try to disrespect our whole American idea is what that was all about. And as we look in the rear view mirror, we can see that clearly. And that is why it is so important that we honor and remember those that have given their lives, been willing to give their lives for our liberty. And liberty is the responsible exercise of freedom. And that is why I’m so honored to support the USMC Memorial Foundation. And we have the president on the line right now. Paula Sarles, welcome. Thanks. How are you today? Well, I am well. And the work that you’re doing, Paula, at the USMC Memorial Foundation to raise the money. Well, first of all, to take care of the memorial and then to raise the money for the remodel is so important. And tomorrow we’ll be celebrating the 48th anniversary of the Marine Memorial. And you have a great evening planned. Tell us about that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, we have Dave Bray, USA, is coming to sing a bunch of patriotic songs and entertain us. And he’s just spectacular. He puts on a really good show. And the Young Marines are going to be there to provide a color guard. They’re a young group that we support and try to teach them about patriotism and service and sacrifice and we’ve got Joe Lewis from Angels of America’s Fallen is coming to speak to us about that service and sacrifice and it’s going to be really good and we’ve got some door prizes that are really nice for everybody too so hope people will come out and join us and how can people buy tickets it’s great to purchase the ticket in advance yes Yes, it’s very good. And that’s at usmcmemorialfoundation.org.
SPEAKER 08 :
And Paula, the memorial is a place of healing. I remember you telling a story about a young, I think it was a young Marine that was there, that it’s just been such a place of healing. And you talked with him there at the memorial.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, I did. And then I met him 12 years later. And he told me—I get choked up telling this story. He told me that the memorial saved his life, that he was contemplating suicide that day. And when he came out and met all the Marines that were there and talked to us and realized that he wasn’t alone, that there were other people hurting, too, and that he could share his story— It meant a lot to him. And he now serves veterans. He was wearing a shirt when I met him 12 years later that said VAC Connect, and he was helping veterans with PTSD. And he helped me with a little bit of issue that I had after I went on an honor flight. So it kind of came full circle. Just having people that were there with you and talking to you and helping you through situations is really important.
SPEAKER 08 :
And when the remodel is complete, you are capturing many, many stories that people will, it’ll be available to people, which I think that that is so important. And that’s why I’m really honored to support the USMC Memorial Foundation because of just all that you do. And so again, what’s that website, Paula Sarles?
SPEAKER 07 :
usmcmemorialfoundation.org.
SPEAKER 08 :
And you can buy your tickets. I’m going to be there tomorrow evening emceeing the event. Very excited about that. And we’d love to have you join us. And again, that’s usmcmemorialfoundation.org. And Paula Sarles, we will see you. I’m going to see you this evening, and I’ll see you tomorrow evening as well. Yes, ma’am. Looking forward to it. And again, you can remember and honor by attending the event tomorrow evening, or you can just make a contribution. And if you buy a brick to honor your loved one’s military service or your military service that will be on one of the pathways of service, that’s a great way to have your service remembered, but also to support the foundation. That website, again, is usmcmemorialfoundation.org. And all these conversations that we have are so important so that you’re informed on what’s going on out there and you can engage in this battle of ideas that is raging in our country right now. And it happens because of all of your support. It happens because of our great sponsors. And a lot is happening down there. And I wanted to talk with Scott Shamblin. And he is the executive director of, I had it exactly right here. Scott, welcome. The Colorado Right to Life. Scott, welcome.
SPEAKER 10 :
Thank you, Kim, for having me.
SPEAKER 08 :
So what’s your ear to the ground telling you about this special session, and what do you hope will be accomplished?
SPEAKER 10 :
So the governor put out a call to address the $1.2 billion budget deficit. The Republicans’ big, beautiful bill creating a Medicaid funding gap for Planned Parenthood and AI regulations. Well, I don’t really deal with AI regulations, and I’m just watching the $1.2 billion budget deficit, nothing too big for Colorado. But yesterday, it was pretty hectic. I got to deal with quite a few bills and running back and forth between their different buildings, trying to help fight the bills.
SPEAKER 08 :
And which ones? I took a look at, and Bill Track 50 is the system that we use for CUT, the Colorado Union of Taxpayers. And we’ve got some of the bills that are posted there. But I had gone to the state legislature’s website and I saw quite a few there. So which ones should be on people’s radar right now?
SPEAKER 10 :
So with Colorado Right to Life, we were specifically watching three bills that were introduced. And we were expecting one more that we were told was going to be introduced, but they canceled it. So the big bill that we are watching is Senate Bill 2. That’s SB 25B-002. And basically what that bill does is it’s kind of a revenge for the Democrats. They are… upset about the big, beautiful bill defunding Planned Parenthood. And so what are they going to do when we’re in a $1.2 billion budget deficit? They’re going to go spend more money to go fund Planned Parenthood. And so that bill, that’s our main focus now. It passed committee yesterday, and then they passed it on second reading, which basically means they have to vote on it one more time in the Senate, and then it goes over to the House. The next bill is the Continuity of Care Bill. They named it very nicely. Basically what it did was it created guidance for doctors and physicians and whatnot to continue family planning services despite federal guidance. federal prohibition of paying for that on Medicaid. And so Democrats, they were going to teach doctors to sneak around the feds and how to continue care despite not being able to pay for it. So this is the government teaching the doctors how to run around the fed. And it was specifically for minority communities. which if you’re at all familiar with Planned Parenthood and their legacy, that’s just what they do. But thankfully, that bill, it died in committee last night, so we’re very happy about that. And then the bill that never got introduced, it was supposed to be a baby bond bill, the reintroduction of the baby bonds bill that died in the 2024 session. which would have this time included a funding aspect for Planned Parenthood. So we’re very happy that that one, they decided to cancel it. And then finally, there was a tax credit bill, which was going to have a funding aspect, but they removed the funding aspect. So we’re no longer opposing that bill. So it was a lot of running around yesterday, but we are down to one bill. And that is Senate Bill 2, which is going up for third reading, which is for those who are unfamiliar. Basically, it’s debate and then a vote in the Senate today.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, so that particular bill, which is Senate Bill 25B-002, it’s titled Reimburse Entities Providing Reproductive Health. And, of course, reproductive means not reproductive, actually, because it is funding abortion. and it says in the summary information, the bill requires the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing to use state funds to reimburse entities that are prohibited from receiving federal reimbursement from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Do you know how much money we’re talking about for this particular bill, Scott?
SPEAKER 10 :
So they have thrown out a few different numbers. If we go to the Real quick, I’ll pull up their fiscal note, which will take half a second. And so we are looking at they’re saying up to almost two and a half or sorry, four and a half million dollars that they are trying to spend on this.
SPEAKER 08 :
So I thought I thought that actually what we were trying to do was to reduce spending with this special session.
SPEAKER 10 :
Well, that’s what I thought, too, and that’s what would make sense. When we don’t have enough money to pay the bills, you’d think you would stop going to nice restaurants and cut back your spending a little bit. But no, no, we’re going to spend more money. Welcome to Colorado.
SPEAKER 08 :
And on that is really, really it’s for abortion, right?
SPEAKER 10 :
Ultimately. Yeah. So this bill, the talking points on it, that all the Democrats are using, the Planned Parenthood lobbyists, they’re saying that this is specifically, this is not for abortion funding. This is for primary care services. So they’re arguing that Planned Parenthood, conducts primary care. Because last year, or sorry, last session earlier this year, if you remember, the Speaker of the House, Julie McCluskey, passed a bill specifically for Medicaid funding of abortion. So this bill they’re saying is to provide primary care, which That’s simply a lie. Planned Parenthood does not provide primary care. I had a woman reach out to Colorado Right to Life earlier this year, and she was saying that Planned Parenthood was, by default, selected as her primary care provider because she uses Medicaid. And when she called in, she was like, hey, so you guys do primary care? Can you Can you see me for – it could have been anything. It could have been an injury. It could have been a cold. Anything that you would see a primary care provider, even physical, like an annual physical or a physical for your kids for sports or school. they’re unable to provide any of that because they don’t have licensed doctors available to do any of that, nor do they have any of the facilities within Planned Parenthood to provide primary care. And so they collect a $15 to $30 payment for every patient that they have as primary care on Medicaid every year, but they don’t actually provide primary care. They just refer it out to an actual doctor. So this entire bill is a farce. They’re just trying to pad Planned Parenthood’s pockets further and continue the misnomer that they provide primary care. They are not a PCP.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, so they’re trying to get around the directive from the federal government then. Exactly. And that is just really being dishonest with the people of Colorado. And if you’re dishonest here, you certainly can’t be trusted in other places as well. And so it seems to me, so this is $4.3 million. There’s all different, it seems like it’s planned out to be able to use different pieces of legislation to, as you say, pad Planned Parenthood’s pockets. So what do you think is going to happen today on this, Scott Shamblin?
SPEAKER 10 :
So I fully anticipate this bill getting out of third reading in the Senate. So that is the final vote in the Senate. And from there, it will be sent over to the House, and then they will continue their business on it tomorrow. Tomorrow is a Saturday. So we’re going to be working tomorrow at the Capitol. And it’s possible that we’ll also be working on Sunday morning. So it’s… As for the long-term of the bill, Colorado Right to Life, we are fighting it as hard as we can. If you go to our website, coloradortl.org, on the front page at the very top, there’s Planned Parenthood bailout. If you click the Learn More button, we’re going to be keeping that page up to date. And then there’s a petition you can sign at the bottom of that petition. and that will allow you to stay up to date, and we’re going to keep on fighting it.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Scott Shamblin, who is the Executive Director of Colorado Right to Life, that website is coloradortl.org, coloradortl.org. Thank you for standing for life, Scott Shamblin. I really appreciate it, and thank you for giving us an update. Absolutely.

SPEAKER 08 :
It is Friday. And hold on here just a second. We’re going to get our guest here on the line. We’re going to talk with Jim Thompson. And he is founder of the Don’t Get Played Cooperative. And we’ll get him on the line here in just a minute. Let me just text this over to Joe so that he’s got it. And fumble fingers here. I think that I didn’t get the right number on there for you. for producer Joe. So hold on here just a second and we will make all this happen. And while we’re doing that, I will share some information with you. Okay, Joe, you should have that regarding this special session that we have going on. And at this particular point in time, we’ve got 12 bills with scheduled hearings, and most all of them are regarding taxes. And I find this one very interesting. It’s House Bill 1004, and it’s the sale of tax credits. And it seems like to me what that is doing is kicking the can down the road on having to make real decisions about reducing spending here in Colorado. And the prime sponsors on this particular bill are Representative Rebecca Stewart, Representative Sean Camacho, Senator Janice Marchman and Senator Mark Schneider. And it says concerning authorizing the Department of Treasury to sell tax credits to qualified taxpayers and in connection therewith transferring the proceeds or proceeds to the general fund. And that seems to me like that could be a real problem. So let me just check one thing here. OK, Joe, you should have what you need there. So hopefully we’ll get to Jim Thompson on here in just a moment. But as I look at the bill text on this. First of all, I’m not sure that if I were an entity that I would purchase these tax credits because as we were talking with Scott Shamblin in the previous segment is this legislature can’t really be Trust it. So perhaps you buy these tax credits, and then what happens in the future? So anyway, this is the bill summary. It says the bill authorizes the Department of Treasury to issue insurance premium tax credits. to insurance companies that are authorized to do business in Colorado and incur premium tax liability subject to procedures established by the department. The department may contract or consult with an independent third party to manage the bidding process. The department is required to issue an insurance premium tax credit certificate to each successful purchaser. And this seems to me like… We want to get away from issuing tax credits. What we want to do is we want to reduce taxes across the board. And so again, this is one of these bills that we’ll really be keeping an eye on. And so we do have Jim Thompson on the line and I got connected with him via Josh Lowenstein as we are watching what has been happening in rural America regarding industrial wind and solar projects. So, Jim Thompson, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 11 :
Jim, thank you for having me.
SPEAKER 08 :
And you live in Ohio and you’ve just tell us your experience, what happened and how you got involved in this issue. Because as I am looking at what is happening with these industrial wind and solar projects, taking farmland and ranch land out of production, which ultimately could affect our food supply, you saw something happening in your community. So what happened?
SPEAKER 11 :
So back in October of 2020, I was sitting with my wife watching the nightly news like we normally do, right? And it popped up on the nightly news, massive new investment into Allen County solar development. And then they flashed up this nice map showing I mean, a huge solar development. You know, just looking at it on the TV, it covered six, you know, country blocks or about six square miles. And, you know, Kim, we live in the country. Living in the country, you’re known for, you know, peace and quiet, great view sheds, and, well, the rumor mill. And nobody had learned about that. this project that had been in the works for the previous 12, 18, 24 months. So, uh, we were shocked. Our community was shocked and we just started digging in. And what we found was, uh, our, our, our local leaders, our township leaders, our County leaders were, uh, pretty much take we’re blindsided just as much as we were. They had nothing. They knew nothing. So we did a little bit more digging, and then we found out the state of Ohio took away property rights and local control back in 2008 and gave them all to the state siting board. Therefore, our community had little to no say if this project was approved or denied. And then we just started digging in, trying to get more information to see how it was going to impact our community. And what we found out was even more depressing.
SPEAKER 08 :
So back in 2008, people probably weren’t paying attention, and this was what the Ohio State Legislature that did that?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yeah, absolutely. They did it. They passed Senate Bill 221 in Ohio back in 2008. And that set up some of the renewable energy portfolio standards that many states now have, if not all of them. But that’s also when they took local control away and gave it to the State Public Utilities Commission in the creation of the Ohio Power Siding Board.
SPEAKER 08 :
And, of course, then you say the citing board, which means that’s bureaucrats, that’s not electeds. So in essence, to connect a dot here, the legislators gave this power to unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats. Am I connecting the dot correctly?
SPEAKER 11 :
You’re going down the right road. Absolutely. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, so that happens in 2008. Twelve years later, you see that there’s this big industrial solar project that is being planned, and it’s very near to your property, yes?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes, essentially 500 to 800 feet away from my property. So it was close, close enough that I would be able to see it, yes.
SPEAKER 08 :
So what was the process? You and your wife probably looked at each other and said, okay, what do we do? So what did you do?
SPEAKER 11 :
So our initial concern, my wife and I’s initial concern, was we had just moved into our home about five years prior and had gone through a massive storm event. It was a two-, three-, 500-year storm event. I can’t remember exactly, but it actually flooded our basement. which destroyed photo albums, videos, things of our children growing up, absolutely destroyed all of her memories that she had down in the basement. So we were very concerned about this happening again because we were looking at a 3,000-acre solar development at the time And, you know, you start adding, even if you go half of that, 1,500 acres of glass panels, there’s absolutely no way that is not going to increase the rate of runoff when rain hits the ground and gets to the creek. So there’s no way possible that that wasn’t going to affect drainage. So we started digging in and just getting… bad answers from the developer. They couldn’t answer anything or didn’t want to answer our concerns about flooding. And so it kind of went from there. And I’m sorry, Kim, I don’t do this normally, speak publicly about this, but this is becoming a growing problem with states rushing to take away local control. And I just want to, I’m trying to share my experience. So forgive me, I
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, you’re doing a great job. And Jim Thompson, I served on city council from 2012 to 2016. And if I remember, just in watching the news, is new projects have to go through some kind of an environmental study, I thought. So it sure seems like a 3,000… acre industrial solar project that they should have had to go through at least how this was going to affect the environment, the runoff, all of that. And it sounds like they didn’t have to.
SPEAKER 11 :
No, they have to in Ohio. Some states are more lenient, but in Ohio they have to go through a series of studies, one of them being environmental review, wildlife drainage. They do have to go through a lot of those studies. Phase 1 environmental site assessments. However, typically a Phase 1 environmental assessment is just a desktop review, meaning nobody’s really going out to the site. They’re just looking at the top-level data to see if there might be a problem. There’s really not too much of an in-depth study. So, yes, these are done, but they’re not done with much diligence, in my opinion.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, because, well, in the event of a hailstorm, if, in fact, solar panels are damaged, that can, I think, be a real problem. You’ve got broken glass or whatever it is that covers them, and then there are different chemicals that can get into the topsoil. And I don’t think that we had really understood a lot of this regarding solar and wind. And, of course, now that people are getting more and more. And the other thing is, it’s an intermittent power source. And Virginia Maka with Stand for the Land Kansas was on yesterday. And she said that we are trading out our baseload reliable power source. from natural occurring, such as hydrocarbons, oil, natural gas, and coal, for this intermittent power. But the other thing is, it’s just taking up so much land. Was this 3,000 acres of solar panels, was this farmland, or what kind of land was this?
SPEAKER 11 :
Yes, to answer your question, it absolutely was farmland. And, yeah, it takes up so much space. And what you said about the intermittency is 100% correct. These solar panels, I mean, they might perform at a 25% efficiency rate. So, you know, to get the same amount of energy, they have to put in two, three, four times the amount of solar panels, which takes more space, which, again, takes up more farmland. But to your point about the toxicity of the panels, absolutely, there are toxic metals inside of those panels. Developers like to claim that they are covered in glass, right? The truth is they’re not. Those panels are not covered on all six sides with glass. That’s two sheets of glass with a plastic, if you will, vacuum-sealed cover over top. They’re prone to… They’re prone to damage just like any other mechanical device. And it’s those toxic chemicals inside are water-soluble, and they can get out and be released into the environment. And there are studies out there that show it. Robinson and Mingle did a study five years after a construction of a solar field. They actually went out and measured contaminants in the ground. And indeed, there are… Elevated levels of selenium, nickel, the list goes on. So leaching does happen, and it should be a concern. And for us, you know, we were trying to find out what’s actually inside these panels. Developers across the United States always claim, well, we meet U.S. TCLIT testing procedures. Well, no. This is a procedure that they bring in a panel into a laboratory, cut out a small portion, test the level of toxicity, and then extrapolate that for the panel, et cetera, et cetera. You would think those reports would be publicly available. I mean, it’s a US EPA report. Developers hang their hat on them. But trying to find those T-clip reports is a near impossibility. Even when I reached out to the Ohio Power Siding Board, again, the agency that permits in Ohio the 50 megawatt and larger facilities, they don’t keep those. They don’t keep them on record, which I think is a violation of the Community Right to Know Act. But we can’t even get copies of solar fields surrounding our county to help those residents determine you know, what toxins they need to be testing for in their own groundwater or drinking water. So it’s just amazing how fast these projects are moving forward and how little attention is actually being paid to the environmental impact.
SPEAKER 08 :
Wow. So your website, you can put in just don’t get played cooperative, but it’s D-G-P-C-O-O-P dot com. Don’t get played cooperative. So we’ll continue this discussion when we come back. And we get to talk about all these things because of our sponsors. And for Everything Mortgages, talk to Lorne Levy.

SPEAKER 08 :
And welcome back to the Kim Monson Show. Text line is 720-605-0647. And always love to hear from you as well. Trying to stay on top of that. We’re talking with Jim Thompson. He is the founder of Don’t Get Played Cooperative. He and his wife in 2020. They live in rural Ohio, and they were watching the news, and it came across the news line that there was going to be a big industrial solar project, 3,000 acres, right next to his property. So Jim Thompson, you got busy. What happened?
SPEAKER 11 :
Absolutely. You know, once we learned that there was no local control, that pit in our stomach, that gut feeling that something just wasn’t right, grew larger. So myself and other people in our community just started digging deeper. And the more we dug, the more we found that there were just a plethora of risks associated with these developments and risks that when you start stacking them one on top of the other, just didn’t make sense for our community. And that’s when we started organizing, organizing a grassroots opposition group and fighting back. We went to our first public meeting that the developer put on, and they were just, I don’t know, trying to placate us, hedgy answers, non-answers. Essentially, they were, I think, taking a page, if you will, out of the W.C. Fields, if you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with, excuse me, baloney, you know, W.C. Fields’ theory on public engagement. They were just trying to schmooze us and not get us to talk because if they can, you know, flood the zone with misinformation and false narratives, they can divide the community and pitting neighbor against neighbor and and this makes people less likely to to talk, to complain. I mean, they don’t want to offend their friends or family. So we didn’t buy it. We just kept fighting. We got petition put together within weeks of organizing. We had 700, I think it was about 700 petition signatures. And Kim, I remind you, this was October of 2020. We were at the peak of COVID. So going door to door and getting signatures was not an easy task. And then a couple weeks later, we convinced our township trustees at a township meeting, which due to the number of complaints they were getting, they had to move from our township building to a local church gymnasium. And it was at that meeting we had over 100 people show up, and the township trustees, within a month of this project being announced, passed a resolution opposing it. From there, we were able to convince the Speaker of the Ohio House and the President of the Ohio Senate to come to our community and speak about not only our project, but renewable energy in general from the perspective of the state legislature. And it was at that time the President of the Ohio Senate specifically told our community he did not want to see this particular project go forward in our community. And after that, it was gangbusters. We dug in deeper, we fought back harder, and we turned the tide. Eventually, I think it was October of 2021, about a year later, the Ohio Power Siding Board issued a preliminary decision where the board’s staff, not the board itself, but the board’s staff, recommended denial. So, you know, the momentum kept building. And then we got to the point where, again, we were in the middle of COVID. Our group was running out of money. This is the other bad thing about opposing these projects. They can cost tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to oppose on a local level. It’s expensive. Our group ran out of money. So we had to kind of back out because we couldn’t no longer afford our attorney to go through the process. to continue taking us through the permitting process or appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court. So we had to back away. People locally still opposed, even though the developer tried to spin our removal from the process as our group now approving the project. That was not the case. People here overwhelmingly in our county opposed the project. And people still opposed, just not our group directly. and it was about about another year later, the board finally came out with their decision to deny the project. Now our project was the first project ever denied in the state of Ohio since 2008. Right. So I think they denied it in 2022. That’s a good stretch. Um, so what we did was successful and that amounted to just a community of hardworking people fighting for a just cause. And, uh, It was quite the ordeal.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, as you’re describing it, I’m thinking it’s a tremendous amount of time and organizing to do this. And as this is now playing out, with Brooke Rollins with the USDA just on Monday saying that that they’re not going to be using USDA money for tax credits and financial incentives for these industrial solar and wind projects. I didn’t realize that the Department of Agriculture was doing that. But that is huge as well. But if you guys had not organized and gotten this stopped, that project would be right next door to you.
SPEAKER 11 :
So it’s pretty amazing. Yeah, yeah, it is. I’m sorry, Kim, go ahead.
SPEAKER 08 :
No, we’ve got just a couple of minutes left, Jim. Just your final thought on this. And when you said that this was an ordeal, this really does take a tremendous amount of energy for grassroots to mobilize. Of course, going back to our founders, the grassroots organized there, and that took a lot, too. But that’s the American idea. So we’ve got about a minute or so left. What’s the final thought you’d like to leave with our listeners?
SPEAKER 11 :
So the final thought I’d like to share is that For communities that are facing these types of developments, you can’t rely on the one, two, or three people that are most vocal. It takes an entire community to do this because it takes so much time away from the families of those people who are fighting. And that’s why we put together the Don’t Get Plagued Cooperative so that People can more readily find those studies, read them, listen about them, and take them and apply them to their own local community. So, again, the takeaway is the community as a whole has to fight. It can’t be just one or two people, and that is so very important.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and the other thing is, is that you can be successful. And so you have taken with the Don’t Get Played Cooperative and people have access to all the things that you have learned. And that’s why you put this together. You were on social media sharing information. And so people don’t have to go out and reinvent the wheel. You’ve got a lot of that information there.
SPEAKER 11 :
We have a lot there, and since everything we do is volunteer, I mean, we don’t get paid to do this. We still have a lot more to put out there. It’s just, again, finding the time to get it done is just tough. So more will be added, but there is a great deal out there.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, and that’s at the Don’t Get Played Cooperative, and you can just do a search for that. It’ll come up, but it’s dgpcoop.com. And Jim Thompson, thank you so much. This is truly the result of really those, our American idea, people standing up for their property rights. So I thank you for that.
SPEAKER 11 :
Absolutely. Thank you, Kim.
SPEAKER 08 :
And our quote for the end of this show is by Orison Swett Marden. He said this, success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds. I think that’s very appropriate for Jim Thompson and his group. So my friends today, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you. God bless America. Stay tuned for our number two.
SPEAKER 03 :
Through the rain and lightning, wandering out into this great home. And I don’t want no one to cry. But tell them if I don’t survive.

And welcome to our number two of the Kim Monson Show. Thank you so much for joining us. You each are treasured, you’re valued, you have purpose. Today, strive for excellence. Take care of your heart, your soul, your mind and your body. My friends, we were made for this moment in history. And thank you to the team. That’s Producer Joe, Luke, Rachel, Zach, Echo, Charlie, Mike, Teresa, Amanda, and all the people here at Crawford Broadcasting. Happy Friday, Producer Joe.
SPEAKER 20 :
Happy Friday, Kim.
SPEAKER 08 :
And as we are learning more and more about these industrial wind and solar projects and looking at the amount of government money, tax credits, all these different incentives that have been going to these projects. And taking so much farm and ranch land out of production, which that’s taking land out of food production. And we have taken for granted going to the grocery store and having an abundant supply affordable, although with inflation, it’s been it’s less affordable. It get government induced inflation. All these things are so connected. And we are at I truly believe we are at the third founding of our country. And I think Colorado is at the tip of the spear and looking at these bills for with this special session. We’re going to talk with Rebecca Kelty, Representative Rebecca Kelty, here in just a few moments about the special session, what’s happening down there. But it is so important that we do, that we search for truth and clarity on these issues. And the easiest way is, is it more freedom or less freedom? And we look at these at freedom versus force, force versus freedom, and force can be all kinds of different ways that it gets to us. And so we will continue to do that. As I think about this, my heart is heavy as I look at what is happening here and now, but what that means for our children. And in the spirit of our founding, our founders put their lives on the line so that we could pass on liberty, the responsible exercise of freedom to the next generations. And each generation has to fight to preserve it. Our fight is in this ideological fight, which is it’s difficult to understand. And you’re also working with somebody texted me and the text line is 7206050647 that the evil one really is into deception. And so just go back to this bill that Scott Shamlin was talking about. I don’t have it right here. I think it was zero zero three. I got to hold on here. I got the notes. But this in the special session is it’s deception. And gosh, if you start with a legislator who’s trying to deceive you, we need to vote them out. And that’s why all of the election stuff that we’re doing is so important. But I want to get to our word of the day, which is behold. Behold, I think something good is going to happen because everyday people are stepping forward, just like Jim Thompson. And the word behold means to see, look upon or gaze upon or pay from a biblical standpoint, pay careful attention to see what follows. And then our quote of the day, I went to John L. Levittow, United States Air Force Medal of Honor. Remarkable story. He was born in 1945, died in 2000. And he said this. He said, the American flag represents all of us and should be treated with respect. And I would highly recommend that you get the Medal of Honor quote book and have it at home and go through these stories with your children and your grandchildren about these amazing action these men did. When they saw the situation, they stepped forward and they took action. And you can buy the book by going to the Center for American Values and get all the information about Drew Dix’s podcast and upcoming events. That website is AmericanValuesCenter.org. And they are doing just amazing work. They’re located in Pueblo. on the beautiful Riverwalk and putting out the foundational principles that they stand on is honor, integrity, and patriotism. And so be sure and check all that out. And I’m hoping that we have Rebecca Kelty on the line here shortly. She is a Colorado State Representative, and she had texted over some very interesting interesting information regarding different pieces of legislation that were proposed by Republicans in the last legislative session that would have basically taken care of this deficit that Colorado is finding itself in. Of course, the governor And the Democrats in the state legislature want to blame all of this deficit on President Trump and the big, beautiful bill. In essence, it’s that we have a spending problem and a priority problem here in Colorado down at the state legislature. But Rebecca Kelty is on the line. She is the representative for Colorado House District 16. She is this is her first year. Rebecca, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER 04 :
Hi, Kim.
SPEAKER 08 :
Good morning. Thank you very much. And it sounds like you might be on the road headed down to the state capitol, hands-free, I’m sure.
SPEAKER 04 :
Always hands-free. Yes, ma’am.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. So what happened yesterday and what should people know about this special session?
SPEAKER 04 :
So yesterday was the day for committees. Everyone went to their committees. You know, for some reason, there were a lot of bills that were presented. I disagreed with that. I don’t think it’s time for presenting any type of new legislation. If you want to fix old legislation, that’s fine. But there was actually some new legislation brought to the table. Each of those bills they create cost money. So that’s my main objection to all that. But going through the committees, they were basically denied or killed almost every Republican bill. And so the only thing on the table left is our Democrat bills.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, and I’m looking at this because the CUT team will be taking positions on these bills and working on that diligently. It looks to me like there’s 12 bills out there that moved forward. Is that kind of what you understand as well between the House and the Senate?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, one of them advanced from my committee, which was distance and labor. That one was a must-have bill. Again, in 2024, they put out legislation that was absolutely damaging to the state of Colorado to the tune of where it could have lost us like 30-some thousand jobs in Colorado and shut down tons of businesses. And they pushed it through knowing it may do that. And now they’re realizing it will do that. So they had to do something as far as put out, you know, try to change that. They’ll start killing it, which they should have killed it. They changed it to where, you know, it wouldn’t have done, you know, the damage that it was going to do. But that’s just… The tune for what has been happening over the last several years, they’re putting out bad legislation, half-cooked legislation, rather than putting out good legislation that’s actually going to help and advance Colorado.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and you had texted over to me some information on House Republican spending solutions. And there were a number of different bills proposed by a number of different state legislators, Republicans, that would have basically got us to the point that we probably would have had a balanced budget if these things would have gone through. Yes?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes, ma’am. That’s 100% correct. A lot of the cuts that we did, we went through. We found a lot of the fluff. We found a lot of things that, you know what, in our household, if we can’t afford something, we wait. Can this wait? Is it a need or is it a want? And a lot of the wants were pushed through on their side. And we were like, look, these are the wants and fluffs that can be held off or just canceled altogether. And they had nothing. They wanted nothing with it. They honestly, they were just like, yeah, no thanks. And they just proceeded along and just ignored, you know, like it always happens. They’re constantly ignoring, you know, the Republican input.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and I think from a political standpoint that I think that they had to know that this was coming down the pike. A hundred percent. But instead of addressing the problems and the challenges on this spending and the spending priorities, I think that they wanted to, Polis and company, to possibly use this as a political narrative out there to try to blame Biden Donald Trump tried to imply that he’s trying to hurt Colorado. Hence, then, all the fluff with the special session. If they would have done their job, we would not be in this situation, and you would not be in a special session, in my humble opinion.
SPEAKER 04 :
Your opinion is spot on, Kim. And we knew that they were planning something like this because in regular session, they passed a bill that allowed them to have monies to be able to basically sue President Trump. So they knew that what they were doing is wrong. They knew that their hand in the cookie jar was going to get caught, and they tried to put something together to help them fight them getting caught. And I think they just got caught larger than what they had anticipated. And they have such short sight. You know, we have to look at long term. What are we doing to Colorado, not just short term, but long term? And that seems to be something that is just ignored all the time over just very, very, very short sightedness.
SPEAKER 08 :
And it’s actually very selfish to not think about things long term because we need to think about what we’re passing on to our children and our grandchildren. Rebecca Kelty, what does today look like for you?
SPEAKER 04 :
So today they’re saying today is floor work. So everyone can go on to YouTube and the Colorado channel and they can watch this live. We’ll be down there and the bills that did advance will either be down there talking for or against them. And we’ll be pointing out, you know, the things that are actually going on in Colorado. There’s a lot of great, you know, Republican reps that are ready to, you know, fight a battle if that’s what it needs to come down to. But We’re not staying silent anymore. We’re not being tolerant anymore. We have to make a stand in Colorado and it’s starting with the 22 of us, but more across Colorado needs to also make a stand as well.
SPEAKER 08 :
And when you say not being tolerant, you mean that we are not going to tolerate these terrible decisions that have been made by the radical activists that have taken over the Democrat Party? Rebecca, I always like to make the point that this Democrat Party in Colorado is not the party of JFK or your grandpa and your grandma. This is radical activists that want to control people’s lives instead of represent people down at the State House. And I think it’s important that people of Colorado understand that.
SPEAKER 04 :
I agree. I agree. Yeah, and it’s a shame because, honestly, it used to be Democrats and Republicans would get along enough to have good legislation go through. But when you throw in radicals on either side, but you throw radicals in there, that’s always the thing that breaks it. It’s like we need to do good by Colorado, and we can’t do that when people are setting – You know, everything, you know, upside down for everyone else. We’ve got to work together if we can. But if we can’t, we need to point it out. And we need to let the people of Colorado know what is going on. Because I think that’s the biggest problem. A lot of people go to work every single day. They don’t have time to sit there and listen to all the stuff that’s going on. But by not listening and paying attention, now we’re in a pickle. We’re in a pickle in Colorado.
SPEAKER 08 :
We are. Well, Rebecca Kelty, how can people get more information about you and to help you?
SPEAKER 04 :
They can go to my website, RebeccaKelty.com. They can send, they actually, you know what would help me the most would be if when these bills come through this next session, January to May, if they could please come testify. I need the people of Colorado to make their voices heard because we, the 22, it’s just not enough. And I think if we band together and we can hear what they need to say, how the things that are going on in Colorado are impacting their lives, whether positive or negative, we need to hear it. So people, please, in Colorado, please stand up and please help us put Colorado back on the map again as being a good conservative state that wants to put the people and their rights first.
SPEAKER 08 :
okay rebecca kelty good luck today thank you for this update and i really do appreciate it and again that is rebecca kelty she is the colorado representative for house district 16 and she won that seat it was a nail biter how many it was how many votes did you win that seat by rebecca i won by three ballots three votes if you think your vote doesn’t matter it matters and you’re doing a great job so thank you rebecca kelty
SPEAKER 04 :

She is a firearms instructor and also works with Teddy Collins and Rosia Collins at Spartan Defense, which is a firearm store in Colorado Springs. And Alicia Garcia, welcome. Good morning, Kim. So what does your ear to the ground have regarding this special session? Anything that we need to be concerned about regarding firearms, our right to keep and bear firearms, to protect ourselves against bad actors?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, we have some people down at the Capitol. I just flew in from Texas last night, so I will be making my appearance down at the Capitol here shortly. But we have some people that are representing us down there to make sure that every bill is being read, to make sure they’re not sneaking in some information. goofy, you know, extra gun control that they’ve been known to do. So as of right now, we haven’t seen anything, but I don’t ever put it past these people to try to pull a fast one and get some legislation that refers to firearms in there. As we know, this year in 2025, there were 25 bills that had the word firearm in it. So there is a constant attack on our freedoms down there.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes, there is. And we’ve been watching that as well from the Colorado Union of Taxpayers. And regarding firearms, that’s one of our flag words as well. I find it a little interesting, Alicia, as I as first of all, it was difficult to get information on what was going to be proposed. and I thought, gosh, it sure seems like things should have been the different bills and the different representatives and senators that were going to be introducing these bills. I was thinking, ideally, we’d like them to get that information out there so that people could review it and understand it, but instead, it seems like the legislation was kept pretty close to the chest so that it makes it, and then the timeline’s so compressed, it seems like that’s a strategy by some of the radical activist Democrats that are in control down there?
SPEAKER 05 :
Well, we’ve seen this before. And as much as our governor would like to act as if he’s, you know, bipartisan and he’s libertarian and all this nonsense, he is very radical himself. When he signed all of these egregious bills that passed, especially SB 25003, He did it silently, and he did it behind closed doors with an invite of Moms Demand Action, of Tom Sullivan, a very radical anti-gunner, with Julie Gonzalez, who is also a very radical anti-gunner, who are both sponsors of SB 25003. The worst ban that we’ve ever seen come across his desk in the state of Colorado. So you can tell quite obviously by his acts, he is very much up to no good. And as much as I’m happy that we’re getting rid of him, my concern is that who we’re going to replace him with is going to be even worse.
SPEAKER 08 :
Wow. That is a statement. But to your point, I think that Polis has handlers that they’re trying to portray him as libertarian. And in fact, we’ve even had media on our side of the aisle saying, Say that he’s libertarian, but you look at his actions and there’s no way that that he is a libertarian, but they’re trying to couch him as more middle of the road. But all you have to do, as you mentioned, look at his actions. Look at what he has signed regarding the Senate Bill 003, which was the big firearms grab bill there yesterday. and then also the 1312, I think it was, the Transgender Activist Bill. He has his name on those, but yet, to your point, from a political standpoint, he tries to distance himself from what he is actually signing and approving.
SPEAKER 05 :
You know, I’m also suing Jared Polis myself. I am the plaintiff in Garcia v. Polis against the three-day waiting period. That was actually put into law on October 1, 2023. Now, we have seen very little slow movement on that case until recently because this week, I was very quite happy to hear this, the 10th Circuit found that the New Mexico seven-day wait is unconstitutional. And that is fantastic because we are also the 10th Circuit. So my attorneys are in works right now to put something together because we have had nothing but our preliminary injunctions denied. We’ve had, you know, all of these things kind of put before us as stops. But to see that the Tenth Circuit Court is saying, hey, you know what? No, these waiting periods are unconstitutional. That’s a great piece of legislation that we’re getting to help my case for the three-day wait. So since it is Tenth Circuit, we want to go ahead and petition the court and say, then you should also find that the three-day wait here in Colorado is also unconstitutional and give us that preliminary injunction and get rid of it so we can actually eradicate this and have a win for Colorado.
SPEAKER 08 :
That’s really great news. How can people help you? I know that attorneys are expensive. And so what’s the best way to help you?
SPEAKER 05 :
Please, everybody out there that’s listening, we need donations. We’re not asking for donations so we can live the high life. We’re asking for donations. That way we can continue to do this grassroots effort and organize people and get people informed to be able to continue to work with Kim Monson, to be able to continue to represent us down at the Capitol, to put good legislation through and talk to these politicians because… This is what we do full-time when it comes to being dedicated to preserving the Second Amendment. So head over to the second syndicate, the2ndsyndicate.com. You can donate to us there. You can go to Give, Send, Go and donate to the second syndicate there. If you have a skill set that you want to be a part of the syndicate, that’s the whole beauty of us being a syndicated network of people. Do you know how to write code? Do you want to get involved in politics? Do you have a business or something that can donate items or something that we can auction? let us know because this is how we are making changes one increment at a time. So we’re employing people right now. Please go to thesecondsydicate.com and donate.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. And we’re going to continue the discussion with Alicia Garcia because the Second Amendment was put into the Bill of Rights and the Constitution to protect all of our other rights. And that means that we would have the right to keep and bear a firearm so that we could protect ourselves against bad actors. So we will continue the discussion with Alicia Garcia here when we come back. But if you are looking at selling your home, buying a home, reach out to Karen Levine.

SPEAKER 08 :
And welcome back to the Kim Monson Show. Check out our website. That is KimMonson, M-O-N-S-O-N.com, and sign up for our weekly email newsletter there. And on the line with me is Alicia Garcia. And before we get back to the conversation, I did want to mention tomorrow evening out at the USMC Memorial, there will be a great event for the 48th anniversary of the Marine Memorial. You can buy your tickets by going to USMCMemorialFoundation.org. That is usmcmemorialfoundation.org. And Alicia Garcia is with the Second Syndicate. She’s a firearms instructor, and she also works with Teddy Collins and Rosia Collins at Spartan Defense, which is located in Colorado Springs. Alicia, tell us just a little bit about Spartan Defense.
SPEAKER 05 :
Spartan Defense is spectacular. They are my business partners in the Second Syndicate. They are a very, very high-end and niche gun shop in Colorado Springs. They are off of Towers and Barnes. And so what you can find in Spartan Defense is quite unique from other shops. They have all the employees in the shop are actual shooters and gun owners themselves. One of the things that I noticed when I first started shopping for guns on my own many, many moons ago is that I would go to gun shops and I found that a lot of the employees there, they had no idea what they were talking about. They weren’t well versed in their products. They aren’t very involved in politics or supporting the Second Amendment. It was very much, you know, like walking into a Wal-Mart store. and you’re not going to get that with Spartan Defense. They sell guns that you’re not going to be able to find in many stores in Colorado when it comes to high-end firearms, unique firearms, purposeful guns such as Atlases. They are the number one retailer of Cabot, which is a very hard brand to find, but they’re at Spartan Defense. You can find Aliens, which are the lowest board access firearm on the market. They’re quite spectacular anything from staccato to cue to all kinds of really really niche and high-end brands you’re going to find it spartan defense they also have a gunsmithing shop they make holsters there’s pretty much nothing that we don’t do down there and we also have an excellent training department and speaking of training my good friend kingdom tactical and I just returned from Texas and And we are now certified in the Defensive Pistol Instructor Program through USCCA, which there is only a handful of people in the nation who have ever passed this curriculum. I think it has a 67% failure rate. And I am the third female in the nation to ever pass it. And Josh is taking over our training department in Colorado Springs when I’m not there. So this is going to be a great, a great one-up for Colorado students. in the training because we can bring more education and more knowledge and more certifications to get people more hands-on training so they can be at their best and then are effective with their firearms. So that’s a great thing.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, congratulations. That is really amazing. And what is that website for Spartan Defense? It is SpartanDefense.com. Okay, congratulations. We’ve talked a little bit about Colorado, but what is happening on the national level regarding our Second Amendment?
SPEAKER 05 :
So Trump is doing some really interesting things when it comes to D.C. He is taking the National Guard, and what he is doing is he wants to make some of these obstacles in order to get the concealed carryover. Now, I want to be very clear with everybody out there listening that I am not an advocate for any type of permitting process. I am not OK with asking the state for permission to exercise a constitutional right. So is this the final decision? state that we want things to stay in for dc absolutely not is it an inch in the right direction absolutely and we talk about how do we make change and we have to take a cue from how you know the anti-gunners and the left do things and they do things very slow and incrementally and that’s exactly what this is helping the second amendment with is it may not be the position that we want to stay in but it’s helping us slowly but surely stop The egregious overstepping of the permitting process, the concealed carry process. So if people are not aware, the place of D.C., I hate to call it a state because it’s not a state, but their concealed carry permit process has to be one of the most egregious in the United States. So right now they have to register their firearms in D.C. We don’t have a registry yet in Colorado. So they have to register the firearms. They are not allowed to possess ammunition that is not for a firearm that they’ve registered. They have a ban on where you can conceal that firearm. If you are in a business that serves alcohol, you are banned from possessing your firearm in that locale. They have bans on plenty of places that you’re allowed to have that firearm. And what we’re seeing is that Trump is saying, no, we need to cut down this permitting process. Right now, it is months and months behind, which, as we all know, a right delayed is a right denied, to making sure that people who are applying for a concealed carry permit are able to have that within a few days.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, I find it ironic that Washington, D.C., has some of the strictest firearms rules, regulations in place, and yet it is crime-infested. Because those that want to take away the right for everyday people, law-abiding citizens, to keep and bear firearms, the criminals… still have firearms. So here you’ve got these very restrictive laws that they say are to protect people, but yet D.C. is crime-ridden, so much so that President Trump has brought the National Guard into D.C. So it’s important that people connect that dot, Alicia.
SPEAKER 05 :
You pronounce her name Piro. She is the United States attorney for the District of Columbia. She made a statement this week also saying that Washington, D.C., will no longer assign people with felony charges for possession of rifles or shotguns in the nation’s capital. So, that’s a step in the right direction also, because when we have guns like this that criminalize gun owners, what they’re saying is just by merely being in possession of the tool makes you a criminal. And that demonizes the tool, making it seem as if, hey, this is a bad thing, to which it isn’t. It is something that everybody should have access to. It’s not something that… People should be afraid of. It’s a tool that people should respect. So by pulling back on making possession of these tools so much of a crime, it’s letting people know, hey, guess what? There’s a new day. There’s a new change coming. And when we start representing firearms as they were meant to be and they always have been in the history of America as tools, It is something that it’s okay to own. It’s okay to possess. And just by merely possessing them does not mean that you intend harm. It does not mean that you are a bad person. It means that you are an American citizen exercising the right to possess and own arms to defend and protect your way of life. And that is the new look that I am hoping that we see here in the United States. because we need people to respect the tool. And I mean, I honestly think it’s kind of a good idea to implement things slowly and steadily to reinforce that guns are good, because what we want to do is make people aware that, hey, If we go ahead and we rip the Band-Aid off, right, and we take away all these laws, would people like me be absolutely happy? Yes. But what it would do, it would cause a rise up from the left to do what they do best, is to kick and stomp and make scenes and protest and act out. And by slowly and steadily pulling back that veil to expose the Wizard of Oz, what this is doing is getting them accustomed to seeing this happen in the future. So they can get more acclimated to saying, you know what, these rights are going to be reinstated. These rights are going to be returned. And there is nothing that they can do about it.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and I find that very exciting, Alicia. Lastly, there’s, and again, we’d recommend that people go to thesecondsyndicate.com, and that’s the number two, nd.com, and support this great work that you’re doing to bring these voices together to protect our Second Amendment rights. There’s some events you’re involved in that are coming up. What should people know about those?
SPEAKER 05 :
So we are hosting a free event on September 13th at the Damage Factory in the Denver Tech Center in Greenwood Village. It is going to be a spectacular event. We are going to have Britta Horn of the GOP speak. We are going to have an amazing man by the name of Israel DelTuro. He is the only veteran who has ever reenlisted into the military after being deemed 100% handicapped. He is going to speak out. We are having the event under the name of Honoring Heroes because it’s to represent the lives lost and the heroes of 9-11, not only in just New York, but nationally, because so many things changed that day. And I want people to remember the patriotism that the world felt on September 12th. And that’s what we’re looking to get people back into the mood of, reminding them that this great country is built on the backs of our heroes and our first responders. So we will be celebrating them. We are going to have a swap of gun parts. So people who want to meet up with other like-minded individuals, if you have some parts and things that you want to maybe buy and sell that aren’t illegal to buy and sell, we’re going to have a meet-up at the parking lot. We’re going to have food trucks out there. We’re going to have live music. We’re going to have… you know, entertainment. The Second Syndicate will be having a bar there where we’re going to be serving cocktails and beer. So every purchase will go to the Second Syndicate to help keep us afloat and fund all of the things that we are doing to keep the Second Amendment in our in our liberties here in Colorado. So come out and support us. We’re also going to have an event at Pikes Peak Range in Colorado Springs in October on the 4th, where we are going to have the gun manufacturer Q come out as well as Staccato and plenty other gun manufacturers. So people can experience these amazing guns and get their hands on them and enjoy them. And if they would like to purchase them, they can do so.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. And where can people get information about these events? They can hit us up at thesecondsyndicate.com.
SPEAKER 05 :
They can go to Spartan Defense. They can follow us on all of our socials at The Second Syndicate on Instagram, on X. They can also follow me at The Boomstick Babe or Boomstick Babe on any platform and reach out. We always welcome to hear from the public and take your questions and inquiries.

SPEAKER 08 :
Indeed, it is Friday and so much information out there. Pleased to have on the line with me, Susan Harris. And I thank the Harris family for their gold sponsorship of the show. It’s because of our sponsors that we bring this independent perspective, independent voice on this independent station. Susan Harris, welcome. Good morning, Kim. Well, you moved from Colorado to Arizona. And I’ve heard Arizona has been a little warm lately, Susan Harris.
SPEAKER 06 :
It has. It really has. But, you know, it’s just typical Arizona summer. Everybody’s used to it. It’s our winter weather. Like in Colorado, you stay inside more in the winter. And in Arizona, we stay inside more in the summer.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, definitely. You always have such a positive attitude. True that. True that. So I always like to get your perspective on what is happening out there. And on a national level, it’s been quite a week with Donald Trump. He met with Putin recently and then Zelensky. And then this just came across the wire this morning. The FBI raided John Bolton’s home yesterday. Looking at regarding classified documents. What do you think about this whole Trump agenda as we’re continuing to watch it play out?
SPEAKER 06 :
You know, I just think it’s so interesting that they continue to push forward at just light speed. And I think you have to because the Democrats love to file lawsuits. And so I just love that he’s throwing everything at them so quickly that it’s very difficult for the left to even react in time to have any impact. And, you know, in the in the few areas where they do have some impact, you know, temporarily anyway. stalls everything that Trump’s trying to do. And I think he’s very aware that that’s their strategy. It just put up roadblock after roadblock. And so to avoid that, you just continue to throw everything at them at lightning speed. And it’s just so heartening to see someone willing to take risks, to take control and make decisions quickly and effectively. It’s just really heartening.
SPEAKER 08 :
So this thing regarding elections, where he’s issued an executive order to get rid of mail-in ballots and the voting tabulating machines, that would be huge in Colorado. I’m sure there’s going to be pushback. That would probably be huge in Arizona as well, because there were some challenges.
SPEAKER 06 :
And California, for sure. Yeah. Yes, I think that is a huge thing. You know, one of the things I think Trump does is he puts out these types of tweets, I guess they’re called, but I’m not on Twitter, so I don’t follow those, but they get reposted all over social media, so I see his tweets everywhere. But I think he puts these things out, and he even signs executive orders knowing full well that he’s not going to get 100% of what he wants all the time. But you have to start there. You have to ask for everything. And also, it’s a way of informing the American public to the reality of the situation. So many people have no idea how detrimental these paper ballots and voting machines are. They just don’t know. And so it’s a chance to wake them up and at least have some opportunity to to put the issue in front of the American people.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and it is important because people, I think they’re busy. And I realized just this last week that even though people look at these national headlines, they’re busy, focused on their lives, just trying to keep it together for themselves and their families. Here in Denver, though, there was an issue that a friend of mine said, I’ve never, ever… engaged regarding city council, but I did on this. And that was the just pure tone deafness of Mike Johnston, mayor of Denver, and the city council in the midst of laying people off from Denver city government. laying people off, and then they were going to go on a retreat that was going to cost $26,000. The uproar of everyday citizens was amazing, and they’ve decided to postpone that. But I realize that people are looking at headlines nationally, but it’s the local things that will finally get people to engage, I think.
SPEAKER 06 :
It really is. Nationally, when you look at those headlines, you don’t feel like there’s anything you can do about it. But, I mean, that’s one of the great things about your show, Kim, is it brings the local issues to the attention of the local community. Those are things you can do something about, and you do feel more empowered. And once you just dip your toe in that and start engaging in the local things, you feel more empowered even on the national things. But nationally, there’s not a lot a local person feels like they can do. And there probably isn’t a lot, except for vote accordingly. But I think those local things, that’s a great example. And I loved how you said the word postpone. So now they probably just won’t publicize that they’re going to do it. And they’ll just do it anyway. But at least people are aware.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and the other thing is there’s so much information out there, Susan, and that’s why what we’re doing on the show, and I thank you and your family for your sponsorship, is to try to sift through all this and search for the truth and clarity on these issues. And the lens, freedom versus force, force versus freedom, is so important. Typically, we’ve not seen PBIs, politicians, bureaucrats, and interested parties. Once they take power from the people, I don’t see a lot of legislation that’s passed to give it back to the people.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, it’s just the opposite. Just the opposite. But, you know, what’s interesting, you know, this John Bolton raid is a perfect example of The left doesn’t like it when they are held to the same standards as they supposedly are holding the conservatives. They really don’t like that. And it’s just so interesting to me. The same thing has – with Letitia James and the woman on the federal – the federal reserve governor and – Adam Schiff, you know, they don’t like it when you hold them to the same standards, when they lie on government forms to get advantageous treatment for their own investments. When, you know, Nancy Pelosi is another good example. When they use the information they have to, you know, line their own pockets, basically. And then they don’t like it when they’re held accountable for these actions. And it’s just so encouraging. John Bolton is a good example. You know, he uses information that is highly in a gray area at the least. And it may be considered classified information when he writes his book because he just has Trump derangement syndrome. And he uses that information, yet he doesn’t like it when he’s held accountable for it. And it’ll be interesting to see how that rolls itself out in the coming days. But it’s just so encouraging that these actions are being taken. And to me, the main thing is it shows the American public, listen, these people that have been lying to you they’re going to be held accountable on some level, even if it’s only in the court of public approval.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and a couple of things, and I think when you say that they don’t like it when they’re held to the same standards, I think, and then I think you got to it, is they don’t like it when they have to be held accountable for what they’ve said and what they’ve done. Because I think you and I agree, we want the standards to be impartial, that the standards should be the same across the spectrum. Absolutely. But but there were things that as we look back that were fabricated probably regarding Donald Trump and fabricated those things not work. Right. Yeah. So we want to make sure that we are searching for truth with each of these people. So this is pretty interesting regarding John Bolton because this is a pretty big deal. And Kash Patel, he said this, he said, He said he posted a message that says no one is above the law, FBI agents on a mission. And so this, I think, is going to get real interesting here over the next month or so, Susan Harris. So we’re about out of time. It goes so quickly when you’re on the line. How would you like to wrap this up?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, the only other thing I would like to bring up is just the amazing foreign policy that happened over the last week. And I think one of the greatest things that’s come out of it is the money flowing to Ukraine and the weapons flowing to Ukraine for free from the United States, I really think is coming to an end and letting Europe and the Ukrainians pay for their own war at a minimum. If we can’t get peace, at least the United States doesn’t finance the entire war. And as a taxpaying American, that to me is a victory.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and Trump is really pushing for peace there. And I love that about him as well, getting them to negotiate. So as always, Susan Harris, it’s great to talk with you. We will talk with you next month and have a great weekend.
SPEAKER 06 :
You too, Kim. Thanks so much.
SPEAKER 08 :
And our quote for the end of the show is Orson Sweat Martin said this, success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds. So today, be grateful, read great books, think good thoughts, listen to beautiful music, communicate and listen well, live honestly and authentically, strive for high ideals, and like Superman, stand for truth, justice, and the American way. My friends, you are not alone. God bless you, and God bless America.
SPEAKER 03 :
Through the mountains climbing, twisting, turning further from my home. Young like a new moon rising fierce through the rain and lightning. And I don’t want no one to cry. But tell them if I don’t survive.
SPEAKER 17 :
