Joey Hudson and callers engage in a spirited conversation about the implications of major retail closures, like Walgreens shutting down many of its locations, and how the Biden-Harris economy is impacting businesses nationwide. The episode also dives deep into the contentious immigration policies emerging in cities like Frederick, Maryland, where local government decisions are creating new debates about federal law and the protection of undocumented residents. With insightful contributions from listeners on how America should handle international hostage situations and the role of deterrence, it’s a packed episode that brings forth diverse opinions and perspectives.
SPEAKER 19 :
He’s the happy conservative warrior. From the Relief Factor studio, sitting in for Mike today, here’s Joey Hudson.
SPEAKER 18 :
President-elect Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Hamas saying that if they do not release the hostages taken on October 7th, 2023, by the time he is sworn in on January 20th, there’s going to be hell to pay. Also, Senator Joe Manchin suggesting to President Joe Biden that maybe he should consider also pardoning President-elect Donald Trump. We got some details on Senator Manchin’s suggestion there. The mayor of Frederick, Maryland, Michael O’Connor, he’s a Democrat. He set off a firestorm by proposing a taxpayer-funded legal advocacy group that would defend illegals in our country against the new Trump administration guidelines. Many citizens of Frederick, Maryland, aren’t quite sure why their taxpayer dollars should be spent defending people who shouldn’t be in our country to begin with. And should fans at college football games be allowed on the field after the game? There were a number of altercations this past weekend in some of the state rivalry games in which fights and altercations broke out because of the opposing teams wanting to plant a team flag in the middle of the field. Some colleges were even fined by their respective conferences. We’re going to dive into all this, plus your phone calls. 800-655-MIKE. 1-800-655-6453 is how you join the conversation. You can call. Tracy will put you in queue. We’ll talk as time permits. You can also send me a quick message on the MyPillow text line. And you can email me directly, joey at joeyhudson.com. So where do you want to start? There’s a lot to talk about today. Here’s the headlines making the rounds as Senator Joe Manchin The retiring moderate from West Virginia dropped a bombshell yesterday when he called on President Joe Biden to also issue a pardon to President-elect Donald Trump. Now, I’m not sure Biden saw that one coming. Manchin is saying that Biden should wipe the slate clean for Trump as well. who, of course, will be back in office come January 20th. In cut number eight, Manchin explains why he believes that Joe Biden should also consider this pardon as well.
SPEAKER 14 :
As a father, I don’t know of a father that wouldn’t have done the same thing. What I would have done differently, my recommendation as a counselor would have been, Why don’t you go ahead and pardon Donald Trump for all his charges and make it, you know, it had gone down a lot more balanced, if you will. I’m just saying, wipe them out.
SPEAKER 04 :
What do you think this does for his legacy?
SPEAKER 14 :
I don’t know. From that standpoint, it makes it difficult.
SPEAKER 18 :
Of course it makes it difficult. Still a lot of talk about this pardon that came down Sunday evening. from Joe Biden. And again, I don’t know that it was a big surprise. I think some people still were just taken aback by the idea that Joe Biden, over the past months, has said he would not pardon his son, that he would let the justice system take care of it itself, go through the process, but yet in the final hour, he does so. Senator Manchin is pointing out The hypocrisy of that. A lot of other Democrats as well are still scratching their head over this move by Biden on Sunday. And more details of how it came about. You know, a lot of the Democrats, I think they’re upset about this, not necessarily because Joe Biden pardoned his son. But the fact that this opens the door to what President Donald Trump might do, particularly with the January 6th defendants, many of whom are still in prison. How can they object to President Trump also pardoning these folks after Joe Biden took this action with his son? Trump has been battling a mountain of politically motivated charges of his own. And when Joe Biden and now his staff, by the way, I said to you yesterday and we played a quick snippet of that. We’ll we’ll share it with you a little bit later in today’s show. I’m just dying to see. how Corrine Jean-Pierre responds when she’s back in the White House press room and can really be asked questions about this. Now, some reporters traveling with the president yesterday on Air Force One asked Corrine Jean-Pierre about this. And she has suddenly changed her whole attitude about this. I was curious as to how she was going to respond because she sort of is out on a limb here. She’s been the one out front defending Joe Biden and saying over and over again that he would not pardon his son, Hunter Biden. After he did so on Sunday, though, she had to come up with a story. Well, her key word here or term is – or talking points is that this is political war, that it’s okay now. It’s all right that Joe Biden lied to us over these past few months, and it’s okay that she lied to us as well because it’s all been unfair because of the political process, because of their Justice Department – coming back and using the president’s son in an unfair way. It’s all political. I thought it was pretty brilliant the way she pivoted so quickly. 800-655-MIKE, 1-800-655-6453 is how you join the conversation. We’ve got a lot to cover today. We have a lot of response. from various people, including Democrats and some of the president’s main supporters, who aren’t quite understanding how he could so quickly change his mind. I think the point is here, and there’s evidence, that he’s always intended to do this, that it took the first lady, Jill Biden, it took her to kind of encourage him a bit, but that maybe he was planning to do this all along. He just wasn’t quite sure of the timing. Well, he answered that question on Sunday. Hope you’re enjoying the conversation on this Tuesday. And it is Giving Tuesday. We’re going to need your support of our Angel Tree campaign. I’ll give you those details coming up next on the Mike Gallagher Show. I’m Joey Hudson, in for Mike today.

SPEAKER 18 :
More troubling news in the retail sector as Walgreens, one of the nation’s largest pharmacy chains, announced plans to close over 1,200 stores over the next few years. Walgreens operates about 8,500 locations nationwide. They are struggling with significant losses, including a $3 billion loss in this final quarter of 2024. CEO Tim Wentworth said earlier this year that changes are imminent. for underperforming locations, which account for nearly 25% of the chain’s stores. By the end of the fiscal year, Walgreens will have already closed 500 stores, and they expect to close another 1,000 or close to 1,000 stores in the coming years. No word on where these locations will be. This news adds Walgreens to the growing list of major retailers who are scaling back on their physical locations, like GameStop, Sears. Their competitor, CVS, and even Walmart, closing some stores in certain locations. Just another example of how this Biden-Harris economy has crippled a lot of retailers around the country. And it’s going to take a few years of the Trump administration Trump policies to turn these things around. The problem, though, is some of the damage has already been done, and it’ll be tough to recover. So you may not have a Walgreens on every corner like we do today. Many of you commenting on the MyPillow text line, yours is welcome, 800-655-MIKE, 800-655-6453. Your phone calls are welcome as well. Texter says, when leaders like Joe Biden Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and they say, and some Republicans, they call such a foul stench that reaches the high heavens because of their lies. Texter says, come on, Joey. We all know that the dirtbag hunter got all freaked out as the sentencing got near and put the squeeze on daddy for a pardon, or he’s going to start dropping dimes and take everybody down with him. I do believe that probably plays a part, don’t you? that Joe Biden wanted to try to sort of clear the air and protect himself to keep his son quiet. He didn’t want little Hunter talking. Matt Vespa, writing on townhall.com, wrote, Biden lied. Liberals know that they can’t say anything if when Trump pardons the January 6th defendants. And that, too, might be why liberals are so apoplectic right now. They’re just wrong about everything. That’s a given. But they should have been… should have seen this coming. Even the most apolitical person knows a president is going to pardon his son who is facing jail. Liberals can’t say anything about gun control and any potential pardons of President Donald Trump. Biden’s pardon of his son even has some of his biggest supporters. still kind of scratching their head. For example, Representative Dan Goldman, a Democrat from New York, had to try to explain his previous comments when CNN played back in cut number seven, played back some of his comments in the past about why Joe Biden would not pardon his son. Cut number seven.
SPEAKER 13 :
In July of 2023, just after that plea deal fell through, this is what you said. I want to watch.
SPEAKER 16 :
Do you think a pardon for his son would be a mistake? Yes. And I don’t think there’s any chance that President Biden is going to do that, unlike his predecessor, who pardoned all of his friends and anyone who had any access to him. And I think you see that in this case where he kept on and Merrick Garland kept on a Trump appointed U.S. attorney to investigate the president’s son. If there is not an indication of the independence of the Department of Justice beyond that, I don’t know what what we could look for.
SPEAKER 13 :
What does that feel like, watching yourself back then, reassuring people that Biden was not going to issue a pardon for his son?
SPEAKER 16 :
Yeah, and I think that if that plea agreement and that plea deal had gone through, there would be no pardon. That was a satisfactory outcome.
SPEAKER 13 :
It had already fallen through.
SPEAKER 18 :
Uh-oh. Sorry? Awkward.
SPEAKER 13 :
When you reacted, this was when the deal had fallen through.
SPEAKER 18 :
Wow. He didn’t quite know what to say. He was without words when she pointed out that, you know, hey, it had nothing to do with the deal falling through because you said this after the deal had fallen through. Even comedian Jon Stewart says the whole deal is a bit fishy in cut number four.
SPEAKER 05 :
Democrats have a moral perch from which they can judge without shame, hypocrisy, or nuance.
SPEAKER 12 :
Breaking news. President Biden has issued a pardon for his son, Hunter Biden. Mother*******!
SPEAKER 05 :
We were so close. But you know what? That’s fine. It’s good. It’s right. It’s his right. An 82 year old man doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life visiting his son in prison. Republicans can’t wait. I’m sure the pardon is a narrowly written, precisely drawn farewell note of compassion for a loved one.
SPEAKER 03 :
The pardon sweeping covering offenses that Hunter Biden, quote, has committed or may have committed or taken part in over the past 11 years.
SPEAKER 05 :
11 years is a very specific and not rounded amount of time. So, Hunter, I’ll give you a pardon. A few years, five years, 10 years. It needs to be 11.
SPEAKER 04 :
And if you would be so kind, make sure this upcoming New Year’s Eve is also covered.
SPEAKER 18 :
Wow. That’s, you know, when the comedians can’t explain it. You know that it’s unexplainable, right? Some of the Democrat lawmakers still questioning this. Representative Greg Stanton, he’s a Democrat from Arizona, dismissed Biden’s claim that his son was being targeted for political reasons. Writing on X, he said this wasn’t a politically motivated prosecution. Hunter committed felonies and was convicted by a jury of his peers. Colorado Democrat Governor Jared Polis said the pardon sets a bad precedent that could be abused by later presidents. And that’s what they’re more afraid of than anything. They’re afraid that Joe Biden has opened the door for Donald Trump. The governor from Colorado, who’s been floated as a possible 2028 presidential contender, insisted that the move will sadly tarnish Joe Biden’s reputation. Polis wrote, when you become president, your role is paterfamilias of the nation. Hunter brought the legal trouble he faced on himself, and one can sympathize with his struggles while also acknowledging that no one is above the law, not a president and not a president’s son. Representative Marie Perez, a Democrat from Washington, fumed that Hunter was gifted special treatment. saying President Biden’s pardon of his son confirms a common belief I hear in southwest Washington that well-connected people are often gifted special treatment by a two-tier justice system. She added the president made the wrong decision. No family should be above the law. But the Biden family has always been above the law. The Biden family has always thought the rules did not apply to them. Joe Biden has taught his son, Hunter Biden, that you can do things and not have to be responsible for your actions. He has enabled Hunter Biden’s bad behavior for many, many years now. And what’s next? I mean, what’s Hunter Biden going to do next? I mean, think about this for a minute. And I read this yesterday yesterday. It was questioning Joe Biden and how he has treated Hunter Biden and has made excuses for Hunter Biden’s bad behavior for years now. How a vice president, when Joe Biden was Barack Obama’s vice president, how he would send his crackhead son. Because it’s a known fact that Hunter Biden was struggling with his addictions while his dad was vice president. And he sent his son to China. He sent his son to negotiate with Ukraine. Ukraine, Burisma was paying Hunter a million dollars a year to sit on their board. Joe Biden knew the delicacies of this and still… and still promoted his son, still allowed his son to sell access to his father, knowing the condition that Hunter Biden was in, knowing that he was struggling with addiction. 800-655-MIKE, 1-800-655-6453. I’m Joey Hudson, in for Mike today. Light on the ground. Children with frost in their hair.
SPEAKER 07 :

SPEAKER 11 :
Thank you. What’s on your mind today, Will? I was talking about President Trump’s comment. No one should be allowed to take Americans hostage. I don’t care who they are or where they are. It’s time we got a president that stood up for America and quit sitting on his little behind in his diaper and crying to everybody else about stuff. We finally got somebody that’s going to stand up to these people and put a stop to it.
SPEAKER 18 :
So you’re willing to send troops, if that’s necessary, to free these hostages?
SPEAKER 11 :
I don’t think it’ll come to that, but we have too many missiles and drones that we could target key points of interest that would pretty much shut Hamas down.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah. Yeah. Appreciate your call, Will. And, hey, I respect your opinion. You’re in Asheville, North Carolina. How are things in Asheville?
SPEAKER 11 :
It is slick in places. We have places maybe an inch of snow.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yep. I couldn’t believe, of course, I live in upstate South Carolina, I couldn’t believe when I got up this morning the weather forecast that you guys were having snow and some of the schools were either delayed or closed. So, hey, have a great day. Appreciate your call, Will. 800-655-MIKE, 800-655-6453. Wes is in Six Mile. Welcome, Wes. Thank you. I appreciate that. Appreciate you taking my call. Sure thing.
SPEAKER 07 :
What’s on your mind? I just want to say that, uh, it’s not about protecting the lives of the hostages right now. It’s about protecting future hostages. Yeah. If you make, if you make a strong impression, if you do what it takes, uh, people are not willing to mess with a buzzsaw when they know that it’s going to come and get them.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah. Yeah. It really is. It does have a lot to do with deterrence, doesn’t it?
SPEAKER 07 :
It does indeed. I’ve spent my entire life, uh, protecting. I’ve, uh, Been in the military. I’ve contracted. This is about the future lives. If people know what you’re willing to do, then, you know, they’re not going to take advantage of you.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah. Yeah, you know, I think there’s a lot of discussion, and I tend to agree with the idea that if Donald Trump were president now, there would have never been an attack on Israel, and there wouldn’t be any hostages.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s why we’ve got to make a strong impression now, for now and for the future. That’s just my opinion.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yep. Hey, Wes, appreciate you calling. Appreciate you listening, I’m assuming, on 98.9 WORD in the upstate?
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, yes, indeed. I listen to you. I’ve listened to you for years.
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, I appreciate that. Have a blessed day, Wes. 800-655-6453, one line open. Let’s go to Indiana, Hammond, Indiana. Mike, you’re on the Mike Gallagher Show.
SPEAKER 10 :
Hey, Joe, thanks for taking my call. Sure thing. Yeah, we need to do the complete opposite of whatever Joe Biden has been doing. We’ve got to put the world on notice that it’s not tolerated. You can’t take American hostages. Now, they may be killed in the process, but you’ve got to hit them hard and heavy, leading from the basement to capitulation and appeasement. It hasn’t worked. Look around the world. Joe Biden has closed 11 embassies of ours around the world in his administration. That’s unforgivable. I don’t understand how it’s happening like this.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah, it really is. Just as Wes was saying a minute ago, it’s more about deterrence than anything. It’s sending a statement to the world, but particularly to Hamas, this group of thugs, that we’re not going to tolerate this. And, you know, you may have dealt with Joe Biden and he may have let this happen. Donald Trump’s not going to.
SPEAKER 10 :
And, Joe, I think you have to go after Iran. I’ll be honest with you. Because they’re allowing all this to happen. I mean, in one way or another, you’ve got to make Iran pay a price for all this.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yep. And I think that if, in fact… Trump does order some type of military response, you’re probably doing that knowing that we’re going to get involved with Iran because I don’t think Iran’s going to sit back. There’s going to be conflict on both sides there, and so we have to be ready for that.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, that’s why I say you’ve got to keep Iran as your primary target on that.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yep, yep, exactly. Hey, appreciate your phone call. 800-655-6453 is how you join the conversation. Your comments are welcome on the MyPillow text line as well. I’m Joey Hudson, in for Mike Gallagher today.
SPEAKER 20 :

SPEAKER 18 :
Continuing the Mike Gallagher show on the MyPillow text line, getting a lot of text, by the way, on this issue with college football and storming the field and planting your team flag. A texter says they should have to write 1,000 times on the chalkboard, I will not plant my flag on the opposing team’s field. That and a $100,000 fine in some cases, I guess. Interesting that Ohio State and Michigan were fined $100,000. North Carolina and North Carolina State were fined $25,000. I guess maybe the ACC has different rules. From 96 South Carolina, James is on the line. Welcome to the Mike Gallagher Show.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yes, thank you both. Yeah, I think it all started in the locker room. They want to be young men. They want everybody to present them like young men. Both teams, stop this. They show the people how to game, and we can be gentlemen. That’s the way I feel about it.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yep. Well, hey, good point, James. Appreciate your phone call. 800-655-6453. You know, someone made the point. Let’s see if I can find it here. Texter says, America plants a flag when they win a battle. Those games were a battle, and the winning team were the conquerors. I love they were putting their flag up for the win. You agree? Is it okay to plant a flag on your opposing team’s home field? Appreciate your comments. The mayor of Frederick, Maryland, Michael O’Connor is his name. He’s a Democrat. He set off a firestorm this week when he proposed a taxpayer-funded legal advocacy program to defend illegals. He’s getting ready for the new Trump administration. And instead of prioritizing law-abiding citizens, Mayor O’Connor wants Frederick taxpayers to foot the bill to help these immigrants fight federal immigration laws. Now think about that for a minute. And think about if you lived in Frederick, Maryland, how you’d feel about that. Some of these sanctuary cities are just, things are getting out of hand. They hate Donald Trump so much, and they hate the idea that he’s going to close our borders, both north and south. And by the way, good news from both, with the Mexican president indicating she will cooperate after the threat of tariffs, and the Canadian prime minister was at Mar-a-Lago over the Thanksgiving weekend, he too suggesting that he will cooperate and work together to try to solve this problem. Now, isn’t that interesting that all Donald Trump has to do is threaten the use of tariffs and have a conversation? And both of these countries are now saying, hey, we’ll work with you. We’ll try to stop this. This is not good for either of us. You think Joe Biden could have had that same conversation? It’s just proof that Biden did not want to close our borders. Joe Biden wanted our borders to be open. Back to Frederick, Maryland. It’s the second largest city in the state of Maryland. It has a population of around 86,000, just between Washington, D.C., and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Mayor O’Connor, in justifying his proposal, says that it’s patriotic, and he invoked his own family’s immigration history. Evidently, his parents came over to America from another country. He also referenced Vice President Kamala Harris’s remarks about being organized, energized, and engaged. The mayor claims that this isn’t about politics, but protecting the values of Frederick, he said. He says it’s about ensuring that immigrants feel safe, they feel respected, and they feel protected. But at what cost? The plan doesn’t just sidestep federal law, which it does. It just outright challenges it. I don’t understand why these local officials don’t recognize the fact that they’re violating a federal law. And we have that law in place for a reason. Sheriff Chuck Jenkins… is a defender of the law. He’s not mincing words. He told Fox News that this plan is not only inappropriate, but it’s unfair to taxpayers. And cut number 11, he says that city’s resources should not be diverted from public safety for funds like this. Cut number 11.
SPEAKER 08 :
I think it’s unfair to the taxpayer. And there’s already enough advocacy groups out there to provide legal counsel for people in removal proceedings. What the mayor said in his statement, he is going to try and protect. The non-citizen residents of Frederick City, by not working with ICE, not cooperating with ICE, who is going to come in and they’re going to make arrests. He doesn’t have the right to do that. It’s not his business to do that. ICE has the authority and they will come into this jurisdiction, come into the city and pick up the targets they deem necessary to pick up. To me, he’s invited more problems potentially by saying, we’re going to protect you in Frederick City. We’re not going to cooperate. So that could invite, you know, other criminal elements, including criminal gangs that may think they’re safe here by the mayor’s comments. The quicker we address a problem, the quicker we clean up the cities, get the criminals off the streets, the criminal gangs, people in this country who are convicted of violent crimes in other countries. There’s probably two, two and a half million people that are going to be the initial targets. All criminals. I am 100% supportive from the standpoint I want to do everything I can to keep my county safe, my citizens safe, reduce crime, remove a criminal element, and let’s clean this country up. So I’m 100% supportive of President Trump and his policy.
SPEAKER 18 :
I’m predicting there’s going to be a clash. between this law and order sheriff and this flaming liberal mayor. What do you think? The sheriff predicts that this move, as he said, could potentially invite illegals to come to their city, thinking they’re going to be protected, as the mayor has said. Again, I just don’t get it. I don’t get why a local official like this would want illegals in his city using resources of the city and defying federal law. Can you explain that to me? 800-655-6453 is the My Fellow text line. Your calls are welcome as well. I’m Joey Hudson, in for Mike Gallagher.
