Get firsthand insights into the emotional reactions from both progressives and conservatives as they face the possibility of a federal shutdown.
SPEAKER 09 :
Mike Gallagher. It’s not really a decision. It’s a Hobson’s choice. Either proceed with the bill before us or risk Donald Trump throwing America into the chaos of a shutdown. This, in my view, is no choice at all. While the CR bill is very bad. The potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse. For sure, the Republican bill is a terrible option. It is not a clean CR. It is deeply partisan. It doesn’t address far too many of this country’s needs. But I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even more, even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option.
SPEAKER 04 :
Uh-oh, the progressives are big mad. AOC, Rashida Tlaib. Jayapal, oh, they’re mad. They’re big mad. They’re furious. In fact, they’re lashing out at Chuck Schumer. They can’t believe that the Republicans are going to win this. You know, and to the Pennsylvania texter who said you were hoping that there would be a big shutdown so that they could continue their Doge march. I mean, look, I get it, but can we not forget that it’s not good for anybody to have a government shutdown, frankly, as a country? It would have been a big assist for Trump, but you don’t want to shut the government down. Not a good idea. Incidentally, thank you for all the text messages of support for Danny Boy. I think we’ll get it out of the archives for Monday, and we shall sing Danny Boy. I also just saw us pass over $70,000 in donations to our Food for the Poor campaign. I am overwhelmed. Every time I think we’re going to fall short, you just step up, and I am beyond grateful. Let’s keep it going. We’ve got another couple weeks to go. Starving children all over the world are going to be fed by your donation to this beautiful Christian ministry, Food for the Poor. All you have to do is go to mikeonline.com and click on that blue banner at the top of the page, Feed Their Future. $100 feeds a child every day for a year. They get a lunch every day for a year. You know what that means to a kid in one of the poorest of the poor nations? And thank you for taking us over 70,000. Once again, this audience stands tall. You are the light. You are the leader. You are the winners. You are the gracious givers, the most generous audience in America. And I am so lucky to get to come to work every day to be with folks like you. Thank you. Please go to MikeOnline.com. It would be kind of fun to see how… how high these donations can come in. But right now, well over 70. It’s actually 76 because we have a $6,000 check that was mailed. And, of course, that’s a process. It takes a while, but we’re so grateful to the gentleman with his family foundation. Food for the Poor has not yet received the check, but it will be there, I’m sure, once they locate it. Then we’ll pop in another 6,000. So our total is actually 76,000 right now. We might, I don’t know, we may get over 80,000, 85, 90, who knows. Whatever you can afford, make it a Food for the Poor Friday, mikeonline.com. If you’re grateful for the way things are going in America, if you feel as optimistic as I do about our country, about the world, about Americans. Please go to MikeOnline.com and click on that blue banner there. You’ll see the Food for the Poor banner. It’s a secure online donation, tax-deductible food for the poor. Jim in Palm Harbor, Florida. So what do you think, Jim? Chuck Schumer did something Democrats never do, threw in the towel. Are you glad?
SPEAKER 05 :
I am glad, but maybe for more personal selfish reason. I have two kids in the Army, a son and a daughter-in-law. And my oldest son also works for the federal government as a law enforcement officer. And he’s in training. They were getting ready to send him home Friday because there’d be no money for the training to continue. Wow. I don’t have the resources to help my kids and grandkids out like I would like to. Sure. Although we would. but I would have to do that if the government shut down. So maybe that’s selfish.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, it’s not selfish at all. And you know why your call is so important, Jim, and I’m glad you did it. I’m glad you reminded us. There is pain with this, and I don’t want to ignore the pain. You know, people get mad at me because I say we should not just put our fingers in our ears and ignore the wails from our political opponents. Some of these people are really hurting, and I don’t want anybody to hurt. Look, getting rid of waste, fraud, and abuse on the federal level benefits Republicans and Democrats. Democrats were all about getting rid of fraud and waste and overspending. How about this video surfaced of Barack Obama? This is amazing. Did you see this video we have that, guys? This is, oh yeah, cut two. Check this out. I had to double check to make sure it wasn’t artificial intelligence. I thought, has this been staged? No. This is actually Barack Obama in 2011.
SPEAKER 10 :
Everyone knows that getting rid of the deficit will require some tough decisions. And that includes cutting back on billions of dollars in programs that a lot of people care about. But what should be easy is getting rid of the pointless waste and stupid spending that doesn’t benefit anybody. Waste we should be getting rid of, even if we didn’t have a deficit. Sure, some of these cuts aren’t that big. But no amount of waste is acceptable. Not when it’s your money. Not at a time when so many Americans are already cutting back. Just as families are living within their means, government should too. Did you know the federal government pays for a website devoted to a folk music ensemble made up of forest rangers? They’re called the Fiddlin’ Foresters. I’ll put their music on my iPod, but I’m not paying for their website. And there are hundreds of similar sites that we should consolidate or just get rid of. By the way, you’re not only paying for websites no one needs, you’re paying for thousands of buildings all across the country no one uses. For the last decade, the government’s owned a massive and completely empty warehouse in the middle of Brooklyn, for example. The government hadn’t been able to sell this building and others like it because of red tape and Washington politics that held things up for years. But we’re finally cutting through all that and plan to get rid of these buildings in the months ahead. We need to step up our game. We need to go after every dime. We need to make government work for you. That’s why, starting today, I’ve asked the vice president to lead a renewed effort to hunt down misspent tax dollars in every agency and department of this government. We’re calling it the campaign to cut waste. And I know Joe’s the right man to lead it.
SPEAKER 04 :
Wow. I mean, Barack Obama was Doge before Doge was cool. The campaign, we’re calling it the campaign to cut government waste. I don’t remember anybody freaking out when he gave that speech in 2011. So finally a president comes along and actually does it, and they’re melting down. They’re only melting down because it’s Trump. They only hate Elon Musk because he’s aligned with Trump. So they’ll calm down. I pray that their hearts will be softened and they’ll see that what’s happening is good for every American man, woman, and child. Now, as for Barack Obama, there’s only one thing that was a blatant lie in that little speech from 2011. If you think he’s going to put the fiddling foresters on his iPod, I got a bridge over in Brooklyn I want to rent you for the summer. Speaking of Brooklyn, one of New York’s finest, one of America’s finest, the great… Attorney Arthur Idalla on the Trump Tower protest coming up. I just got the daily report for our Food for the Poor campaign. Look, if the new kid on the block, Chris DeGaulle, beats us in the campaign, I’m in big trouble. I’m giving up. You can’t let that happen. If you like what we do… Because we’re all doing this together, this Food for the Poor campaign. I’m going to give you the phone number that I didn’t give you a moment ago. I just need 400 people to pop in 100 bucks. Let’s get 100 people today to donate $100. Food for the Poor. This is what we do. We do this a few times a year. And here’s the phone number that I left out before. If you want to make a phone call, have your credit card standing by and call Food for the Poor. 844-860-HOPE. That’s 844-860-4673. Or you can go to mikeonline.com, click on that banner at the top of the page, or just text the keyword food to 800-655-MIKE, and we’ll send you back the link. And thank you, thank you, thank you for supporting our Food for the Poor campaign. Come on, let’s get there. Come on, 400 people. Wouldn’t it be amazing? How astounding would it be if I could touch the hearts of 400 people, maybe even you, Ed, in Naples? Instead of being grumpy at me, feed starving children. Clothe the naked. Feed the hungry. Partner with the Christian ministry. All I need is 400 people to donate 100 bucks, and we’re there. We’ve got our goal. Maybe we could do it today. Go to mikeonline.com, click on the banner, or call 844-860-HOPE. Call 844-860-4673. However you reach out, I do hope you’ll join me as folks just like you all over America step up to help our friends at the Christian nonprofit international relief organization, Food for the Poor. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
SPEAKER 06 :
The Mike Gallagher Show.
SPEAKER 14 :
Alexander Hamilton had undue influence on George Washington. Literally, he was with George Washington all the time, telling him ideas about policy and the Treasury.
SPEAKER 13 :
But there have been people next to people in the Presidents forever. Who’s gotten us to the moon? Who’s gotten us into space?
SPEAKER 01 :
He’s gotten us into space.
SPEAKER 13 :
He went to space long before you were a citizen.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s the government.
SPEAKER 13 :
Excuse me, that’s the government.
SPEAKER 06 :
In the ReliefFactor.com studios, here’s Mike.
SPEAKER 04 :
Now, I know we’ve been singing the praises of Scott Jennings over at CNN, the lone conservative common sense voice over there. He’s not the only one. And Scott, you know, guest hosted for me, which was pretty neat. I’ve got to find out if we can afford our next guest, who is absolutely killing it on CNN. I brought Arthur Idalla, our legal eagle, back because, first of all, it’s been too long. Second of all, I want to ask him about the storming of Trump Tower and what the legal ramifications of all that are. But, Counselor, can I just tell you how proud I am of seeing those clips on CNN and you going into the lion’s den and holding your own? What the heck? I mean, congratulations.
SPEAKER 14 :
First and foremost, for those watching us on video, I apologize I don’t have a tie on, Mike. Father’s morning here with my little guy, so don’t be mad at me. Usually when you walk into a room, Mike, I stand up like a judge.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, yeah, sure you do. I apologize. Sure you do. First of all, I’m going to respond as the guy who never wears a tie. Don’t give them any ideas. If Kerry Pahagian hears that, they’re going to make me wear a tie. Chris DeGaulle, my predecessor on this network, looks like he just walked out of GQ with his pocket squares. There you go. But no, we’re kind of casual around here. We’ve got our coat on, but you’re wearing a tie on CNN, and you’re killing it over there, Arthur.
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, look, you know, for me personally, I’m not a label guy. I’m not a conservative. I’m not a liberal. And I will tell you what, Abby Phillip, who’s the host of that show, what she has told me more than once now. She goes, you’re very measured. Meaning, I guess, I’m not yelling and screaming, but I just look at it from a New Yorker’s point of view. I acknowledge that I am not the typical American. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and there’s a big difference between Brooklyn, New York and Scottsdale, Arizona. I learned that when I went to Scottsdale, Arizona. But there are certain things that are said on CNN and other places, by the way, that, like, I’m just like, that doesn’t make any sense to me. And I just speak my mind. And, you know, what happened yesterday, you know, you were talking about what happened here in New York City. You want to talk about what doesn’t make sense. I was very busy yesterday. I heard about the protests in Trump Tower. And it upset me for a lot of reasons. There were so many tourists. By the way, New York City, it’s amazing. As soon as the weather broke like 50 degrees, the tourism just swelled. My office is right there, not far at all. And so I was like, oh, this is a bummer. And when I found out it’s a Jewish group, That was protesting. Like, I’m flabbergasted by that. And it’s born out of ignorance. Subjectively speaking, September 11th was a horrible day for me. I lost one of my closest and dearest friends. I know other people who lost people there. So I have to be subjective. But objectively speaking, what happened on October 7th It was almost like the difference between September 11th was kind of like World War II and dropping the bomb and people died, whereas October 7th was like the Civil War. It was hand-to-hand combat. These pieces of garbage went into people’s homes on October 7th and pulled babies out out of father’s arms and took them away, Mike. I have a daughter who’s that age, too. She was two years old on October 7th. And I heard this story recounted of Hamas going into some guy’s house and pulling this kid out of his arms and taking her away. I mean, I can’t think of something worse right now in my life. And so then to go in and make these protests… You know, they’re just ignorant. They’re really ignorant people. It’s like the people who protested, you know, defunding the police. That’s because they’re too young to have been here before Rudy Giuliani came in and cleaned up New York City. But hats off to the NYPD and to the chief of department, John Schell, who I spoke with right before I came on your show just to get some feedback from him. You know, basically within two hours, I think he told me there were 98 arrests. You know, they don’t put handcuffs on them. They put those like plastic zip ties on them because they were trespassing. And, you know, President Trump was happy that his building didn’t get, you know, get beat up. But, you know, look, you have a right to protest. That’s why this country is so great. But if you want to be an idiot and protest about stupid things, you’re allowed to do that as well.
SPEAKER 04 :
A lot of people don’t understand that this was ostensibly a Jewish group, which is so bizarre. So you’ve got signs. They all look like they were manufactured in a factory, these signs. These aren’t exactly like sandwich boards that people write on. This looks very orchestrated, very well organized. One sign says, Jews say do not comply. And then the other sign says Free Mahmoud Khalid, the anti-Semitic, anti-Jewish protester. It is bizarre. I mean, look, it is New York, and crazy things can happen there. You know, to your point about the average New Yorker, my Denise used to say a New Yorker might curse you out and take your head off, but they’ll give you the shirt off their back. and she’s so right about that. Denise had such a great ability to kind of capture the essence of somebody’s personality, and New Yorkers do not hold back. Sharp-elbowed, Donald Trump comes to mind, but have hearts as big as the Empire State Building. Incidentally, a follow-up to what you said about October 7th, Hamas has agreed, as I’m sure you’ve heard, to release This 21-year-old Israeli-American, Edan Alexander, he’s the last living American hostage. And Hamas has agreed, according to a deal, according to reports, they’re going to release him. Now, there’s also four dead Americans who are going to be returned. Their bodies will be returned. But, Arthur, make no mistake, there’s a new sheriff in town with Donald Trump. Israel loves this guy. The state of Israel has been treated horribly by previous Democrat administrations. And I hope that Hamas realizes they better not futz around or they’re going to find out.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, and you know, I don’t want to overemphasize what you said. There’s a new sheriff in town. Crime has gotten down a lot in January and February in the city of New York. A lot. Really? Really? To say that, oh, yeah, it’s gone down a lot. Like, I don’t want to throw out a wrong percentage, but a lot. I mean, they’ve written now editorials about it. It’s in today’s New York Times. How much crime on the subway has gone down and ridership has gone up. And I don’t want to give too much credit to President Trump because, you know, let’s face it, he’s in Washington kind of running the world. But I think… there’s been like a change of feeling, a vibe, that we’re going to be a little bit more of a law and order society. We’re going to pay attention to the law. If you jump the turnstile, it’s going to be taken a little bit more seriously. I think the migrants who were right down the block from my office in Manhattan at the Roosevelt Center, they’re like, okay, maybe we better chill out because… You know, this is a heavy-handed administration. So you look at the NYPD, you know, working with the feds, and, you know, we’re heading in the right direction. I’m not going to lie, being measured, my children’s college fund hasn’t headed in the right direction in the last two weeks. But, you know, I’m hanging on, and what goes down must come up, right?
SPEAKER 04 :
So do not look at the stock market right now. Don’t do it. It’ll give you agita. Arthur’s show is the Arthur Idalla Power Hour. You can hear him weeknights on AM 970, The Answer, Monday through Friday, 6 to 7 p.m. Eastern. Get the app. Download the app, am970theanswer.com. Anecdotally, Arthur, I was in New York for about 10 days last week and a half or so. It’s you’re right. It’s different. It’s real different. I stay often in Midtown, right by that row NYC hotel that has been a migrant shelter way down. I mean, it was common six months, a year ago to see hundreds and hundreds of Hispanic people on the street on 8th Avenue kids at one in the morning on scooters. It’s different, Arthur, and the homeless people who, frankly, look, we’ve dealt with homeless people as New Yorkers forever. For years, I’m not trying to sound like Mother Teresa, but I’ve carried a wad of singles in my wallet, and I always try to give a dollar or two to homeless people that I’ve seen over the years just because I just want to do that. Now, in the last year, they’ve been aggressive. They jump on your face. They want to hit you. They want to chase you down. Even that seemed different, Arthur, when I was there last week. There does seem to be a very different vibe, a very different atmosphere in New York City. And look, let’s give credit where credit is due. You talk about calling balls and strikes being down the middle. Credit’s got to go to Eric Adams and even Kathy Hochul to some degree, doesn’t it?
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, definitely Eric Adams. And as a matter of fact, a week ago today, the Daily News, I think they held their nose and they wrote an editorial saying exactly what you just said. Credit must be given. I mean, they’re not big Eric Adams fans, but they’re like… It’s also the rats. I know that sounds silly to people who are listening in a national audience, but when you come out of your office at midnight and one in the morning, as I often do… And, you know, I’m looking to my left and my right. We’re thinking whether I’m going to get jumped. And I got rats running across my feet. You know, that’s not a good time. They put in new garbage pails for all these restaurants that now all that food has to be in a locked garbage pail. And that was all the food source for the rats. And again, some of your national audience may be thinking, why is this guy talking about rats? Trust me, it’s not very pleasant to have a seven So definitely New York is turning around. Look, if you look at even when Rudy Giuliani was in office and he came in and things really were on the uptick, it was simultaneous to Bill Clinton being president of the United States. And that one-two punch, because don’t forget the tech stocks took off. Money started flowing around the United States of America. New York is the financial capital. And that Democrat in one place and the Republican elsewhere, it was the glory days of New York City. And let’s hope, you know, President Trump and whoever comes in next, whether it’s Eric Adams or Andrew Cuomo, you know, New York is… New York sneezes and America catches a cold. I don’t say that in an arrogant way, but I say it in a realistic way. So the better New York does, the better this country does, the better this country does, the better the world does.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, we’re always a little better for having spent a few minutes with the great Arthur Idalla here on the Mike Gallagher Show. Keep fighting the good fight, my friend. Come back and visit with us often, okay?
SPEAKER 14 :
All right, sit down, Mike.
SPEAKER 04 :
You’re rocking the boat. We got to rock the boat together, my friend. We got to rock the boat. Thanks, Arthur. All right, 15 before the hour. Just an amazing time to be alive. 800-655-MIKE is our number. Do you get annoyed when we give credit where credit is due? Because, frankly, the Democrat mayor, Eric Adams, I think is responsible for a big, big shift in the atmosphere in New York City. We’re not doing that enough. I mean… You know, on the other hand, I’m upset about Gavin Newsom’s podcast. I want to see if you can talk me off the ledge on that one. Stick around. More coming up on this busy, busy day. SPEAKER 06 :
He’s the happy conservative warrior. From the Relief Factor studios, here’s Mike Geller.
SPEAKER 04 :
Mitt, I kind of obsess over the text messages that come into this studio on our MyPillow text line. They’re great, great talking points. It’s like an instant focus group for a talk show host like me. Bill in Pittsburgh says, Donald Trump became wildly popular largely because of all the free airtime he received. We should not participate in the elevation of any Democrat like Gavin Newsom. They said they wanted to find a Democrat counter to Joe Rogan. And by Republicans going on Newsom’s podcast, we’re giving them exactly what they want. I think we’re giving Gavin Newsom what he wants. I don’t fault anybody who accepts an invitation, although I will confirm if I were to be invited, sorry, not going to go on Gavin Newsom’s podcast. Because he’s the guy that I think… could be a formidable opponent. And as a Republican, I want to win in 2028. I want J.D. Vance. I want Ron DeSantis. I don’t know, Marco Rubio. I want a Republican to stay in the Oval Office after Trump’s term. And I am convinced that Gavin Newsom is playing a game. He wants voters… and that’s all he’s focused on right now, future voters, to consider him a guy who’s moderate, who reaches across the aisle, who gets along with others. Look, Pete Buttigieg has announced he’s not going to run for Senate in Michigan. I don’t even know why he’d run. He’s not even from Michigan. Is he? Pete Buttigieg, the South Bend mayor turned transportation secretary? Would he be a formidable opponent? Well, I think it’s night and day between Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg. Newsom checks all the boxes. And this is not a… By the way, this is not a free speech or a rights issue. Look, you want to… Have a podcast, have a podcast. But the Democrats are in free fall when it comes to their messaging. They don’t have a plan to counter all of this Republican success. And this is what comes with the territory. You know, earlier in the week, Democrats were crowing that they were going to block Trump’s agenda by not voting for this CR. When they vote, when this passes tonight, thanks to Chuck Schumer’s epic cave, we’re going to be able to completely eliminate the Biden imprint on America. And it’s complicated. I heard Marsha Blackburn the other day on a talk show explain it brilliantly. You got to do step A before you can get to step B. And I know there’s red meat MAGA conservatives who say, oh, no, let’s shut it all down, burn it all down. Let’s not No, no, no, no. You still got to play the game a little bit. You still got to… And you know me, I’m not an establishment guy. Trump, I know for a fact, did not want a government shutdown. Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the House, did not want a government shutdown. Republican leadership did not want to have a government shutdown. The media was going to blame us. The media was going to blame Trump. Now, the counter-argument was powerful. A government shutdown could have really benefited… Donald Trump and the Trump agenda. Whole bunch of people who were laid off for the shutdown weren’t coming back as part of Doge, getting rid of waste and abuse and fraud. But you have to appreciate that the Democrats don’t know where to turn. Well, they might turn to Gavin Newsom. But they right now are only capable of being in a crazy blind rage. We all know how much they loved Elon Musk a few years ago. We all know how enamored they were with electric vehicles a few years ago. Now they’re firebombing them. Incidentally, Pam Bondi made a big announcement this morning on Fox & Friends. She seems to be a regular over on Fox News these days, but I’m glad the U.S. Attorney General announced there have been arrests made with regards to those Tesla terrorist attacks. These are domestic terror attacks. Tesla’s being attacked on the political front. These are domestic terrorists. And I trust they’ll spend a lot of years in jail. But here was what Jesse Waters said. He sums up the lost… path that the Democrats are on. They’re flailing about. They don’t know what to do.
SPEAKER 07 :
Saving the planet. He was going to other planets. And he was in love with the Democrats. They were both in love. And then they had this horrible breakup. But Musk says he didn’t change. They changed. He was always about free enterprise and free speech. They went full wacko. They tried to transition one of his kids. And then he buys Twitter and realized that they were censoring everybody. And then he sees Trump get shot. It kind of gives him a political awakening. And he goes all in. And Trump gets elected. He comes and he wants to make the government more efficient at great expense to himself and his company and finds out the Democrats are stealing from the government. So he caught him censoring you and then he caught him stealing from you and he’s humiliated them. This is not your average breakup. This is like you hit him where it hurts. And now the Democrats don’t have the emotional intelligence to kind of reconcile this breakup. So they just oppose everything in a blind rage.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s a perfect way to sum it up. They’re just in a blind rage. We had the guy yesterday. I kept him on for nine minutes. The guy who’s infuriated at Elon Musk. Why? Why do you hate him so? He couldn’t articulate an answer other than he just hates the guy. They hate the guy because he used to be on their side and now he’s on Team Trump and they despise that. It’s only tribalism. That’s all it is. And they’re frustrated. And they’re flailing. When Jesse says Democrats don’t have the emotional intelligence to reconcile the breakup, oh, I know a guy who does. He’s got a podcast now, and he’s the failed governor of the failed state of California. And Mark Davis and I, boy, we got into it today. I love the guy. Mark’s one of my dearest friends. Occasionally we disagree. I want to play for you what he said about why he thinks the Gavin Newsom podcast is splendid and great and wonderful and why I think it’s a very, very bad idea. for us to play footsie with Gavin Newsom. We’re going to have to beat this guy probably in 2028, and this isn’t helping. We’ll see what you think coming up as we kick things off on a busy Friday. Great to have you here on the Mike Gallagher Show. Portions of our show brought to you by MyPillow. And the flannel sheets are 50% off right now. It’s actually laughable every time you hear these people on the left say, Elon’s enriching himself and his friends. You just talked about it. This guy is losing money because of what he’s doing, but he understands the importance of this moment. We cannot continue in perpetuity spending the way we are. We cannot survive as a country. So people ought to be kissing the feet of Elon Musk and Donald Trump for being the two people to actually do this.
SPEAKER 06 :
In the ReliefFactor.com studios, here’s Mike.
SPEAKER 04 :
All right, let’s read some texts from the MyPillow text line before we take your calls. Roy from San Jose, I love Mark Davis, but I disagree with him strongly. Gavin Grusome has just approved over a billion dollars for illegals. The outrage of the fire has fizzled out here in California. You’ve got to have one eye to keep one eye on this guy. Illinois, Mike, that was the best Eminem experience yet, and you were right. You hit it perfectly. Finally, Chicago, Tina, the minute Newsom decided to make a run for president, and we knew he would, he also decided he’d pull the wool over our eyes by pretending to want to build bridges with conservatives. This is the guy who uses taxpayer money to Trump-proof his state. Remember that? We’ve got a Trump-proof California. But, oh, he’s pals with Sean Hannity. And, oh, I want to get Steve. He’s trying to fool us or fool the American people. And Mark’s position is we cannot be fooled. I’m not sure I agree. Let’s take calls. Jimmy in Oakland, California, the home of Governor Newsom. Hey, Jimmy. Hello, Mike. You can sing away.
SPEAKER 12 :
It’s your show. Thank you. Sing away. How are you? You can’t be afraid of Governor Newsom. He is going to run. But you got to remember, it’s a fight. And Ron DeSantis and J.D. Vance get to punch back. OK, we got the two best guys. It’s going to be Newsom. Don’t be afraid. They’ll destroy him.
SPEAKER 04 :
All right. Let’s see what others say. Thank you, Jimmy. Tim in San Diego. Hey, Tim, how are you? Good. Good. Thanks for taking my call. You bet.
SPEAKER 11 :
What do you think? Newsom is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. You’re 100% right. Anyone who goes on his podcast better beware and have facts to throw back at him. The train to nowhere. I mean, the billions of dollars are going to be wasted there. The money to the illegals. The list is long.
SPEAKER 04 :
But wait a minute. Time out. Time out. Let me address something, because Mark would agree with you, and that was Mark’s point. And believe me, Charlie was magnificent. Bannon was great. Savage was fantastic. That’s not the point. It’s not about what makes a good podcast. It’s about Newsom trying to pull the wool over everybody’s eyes into thinking he’s some kind of a touchy-feely moderate who actually likes conservatives. He doesn’t.
SPEAKER 11 :
You’re 100% right. I don’t know if it’s good or not to go on the podcast with him, but we just can’t. Let him pull the wool over our eyes.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s it. That’s my point altogether, and I’m glad we agree. Let’s see what others say. One open line. Jerry in Lansing, Michigan. What do you think? Who’s right on this, Mark or Mike? Hey, Jerry, welcome. How are you?
SPEAKER 08 :
I’m fine. Thank you, Mike, and I love your show.
SPEAKER 04 :
Thank you. I appreciate it.
SPEAKER 08 :
I just wanted to have one comment. One thing about gruesome.
SPEAKER 04 :
Gruesome. That’s a good one. Gruesome is right. You were right the first time.
SPEAKER 08 :
Anyway, I wanted to let those who don’t realize that, number one, he puts off the same spin as his close relative. I won’t know how close they are, but I assume that they are because he sounds just like her. Pelosi.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, he’s related to her through marriage.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes, I know, but that doesn’t make any difference. My kids all call their aunts and uncles even if it’s through marriage.
SPEAKER 04 :
I hear you. I hear you. All right, Jerry, I appreciate it. Thanks for your kind words. One open line, 800-655-MIKE. Look, my spidey sense on Gavin Newsom started tingling when he was doing all the touchy-feely crap with Sean and Governor DeSantis. Remember they had the debate that Hannity hosted? And Newsom, I mean, he’s right out of central casting. Good-looking guy, the pearly white teeth. Charismatic. The other day on the podcast, oh, I should have never gone to that restaurant maskless in the middle of COVID. Oh, you were right. You’re right, Steve Bannon. Oh, yeah, Charlie Kirk, you make a good point on this. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. This is a guy who is an absolute wolf in sheep’s clothing. We don’t have to belabor this. You know, I have a hunch that, first of all, my disagreement with Mark might center around Just his being a great broadcaster. I don’t doubt that it’s good content. I don’t doubt that having the far-left, ruinous governor of California’s podcast feature folks like Charlie and Steve and Savage is in good content. I’m afraid that that good content is going to help lift him over the finish line in November of 2028. And, you know, people are very impressionable. Now, I feel in a way like I’m contradicting myself to some degree because I keep thinking we ought to be able to talk to one another. But I want to talk to the other side in good faith. I want them to have good faith, like my cousin Paul the other day. I talked to him for a long time. He’s a liberal Democrat. I love him, and I respect him. We disagree about a lot of things, but he listens to me. I listen to him. I’ve had friends like that over the years. And that’s getting thrown out the window. I love talking to people on the other side who are willing to discuss and debate and differ in good faith. This is not a good faith actor. This is a guy who is faithful. This is a guy pretending to be something he’s not. And that’s moderate and kind of middle of the road. And, oh, you’re right, Steve Bannon. Oh, you make a good point, Steve Bannon. And incidentally, the left is noticing. They’re flipping out about this. They can’t believe some of the things he’s been saying. And to his credit, he’s recognizing that the cancer of the Democrat Party is is the presence of the far left progressives. And he’s absolutely distancing himself from them. Look, he knows what he’s doing. He knows exactly what he’s doing. And we’ve got to be wary of that. We’ve got to be careful and just have your eyes wide open. Again, the phrase wolf in sheep’s clothing comes up a lot. If you love historic American collectibles, you do not want to miss this. SPEAKER 06 :
Mike Gallagher. Every day Mike visits with Mark Davis. Morning host on 660 AM The Answer in Dallas. Here’s today’s Eminem experience. So do you want to agree first or do you want to argue?
SPEAKER 04 :
What do you feel like?
SPEAKER 03 :
Folks have liked the arguing now that you’ve been here. You’ve been totally slam dunked on the Gavin Newsom podcast, idiot.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, that’s what I want to argue about because people are on to this guy. Now he’s had Steve Bannon, Charlie Kirk. Who else? What was the other conservative? He’s had a trio of conservatives on.
SPEAKER 03 :
Who’s the third? Because I do have a caveat. I do have a… An asterisk or an asterisk. Are you caving? Are you caving, Chuck Schumer? Not at all. Because here’s the thing. Let’s see. And I wonder if this is a devious game by Governor Hairgel. Because I am great with it, and you should be too, as long as the guests who appear on that show are awesome, fantastic communicators who are going to win the arguments by any objective measure. And I don’t know who an example would be. I wouldn’t insult anybody. But if somebody winds up going on that show and getting owned by Gavin Newsom because they’re not a real good communicator, that’s going to be a problem.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s not about who owns who. No, you’re missing the whole point. Let me tell you why you’ve missed the big picture. Here’s Axios. Newsom leads Democrats into the MAGA lion’s den. He’s daring. He has rankled the Democrat base by hosting a trio of hardline MAGA voices for the first three episodes. Who’s the third? Let me look here. Charlie Kirk. Michael Savage. Michael Savage. What? He’s had Michael Savage. Oh, yeah. That’s what I mean.
SPEAKER 03 :
And so Michael Savage, Charlie Kirk. Sit tight. I’m telling you. Let’s help people out. Let’s help people out who may not know who Michael is. Who doesn’t know who Michael is? Dude, Michael Savage has not been front of mind in talk radio for 20 years. I don’t think that’s fair. I think he’s around.
SPEAKER 04 :
I mean… Well, please, really? I don’t know that’s true. I know. He’s a prominent conservative radio host.
SPEAKER 03 :
Not anymore. And he is also… Oh, good Lord. Now you’re dragging me into this. I don’t know how this one’s going to go. Because he is also a joyless scold of a man…
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, Mark.
SPEAKER 03 :
Don’t start. Now we’re going to argue about another thing. The guy’s a delight. I love this guy. Personally over dinner, maybe. Well, no. He’s hysterical. Oh, yeah. He’s hysterical. Oh, here we go. A knee slapper every day on that show. Are you kidding?
SPEAKER 04 :
Are you kidding me? I mean, Mark Levin isn’t a knee slapper, but so what?
SPEAKER 03 :
They’re passionate. I love the guy. Levin actually does have a sense of humor. I mean, it’s not a kind of a self-deprecating you and me style thing, but Levin. No, I know. I would love it if Newsom invited Levin, and I’m not predicting that one’s not going to go well.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, let me read what Axios is saying. In a discussion with MAGA, Charlie Kirk broke with his party, owned up to the dumbest boneheaded move of my life, dining maskless indoors. He’s trying to rehabilitate himself, Mark, and he’s using the podcast to do it. With conservative radio host Michael Savage, Newsom slammed California’s slow vote counting process. He complimented Tucker Carlson. With Steve Bannon, he gave Bannon ample time to promote his economic populist views. And then he goes on to say he is widely expected to run for president in 2028. You’re rehabilitating the guy.
SPEAKER 03 :
He will still be wrong on every issue. Why are you running scared from Gavin Newsom? I don’t fear him. I am confident in the superiority of our views. And if he wants to welcome some of our people to make our superior points, that is nothing but a good thing. Look what you might do for a living. Why do you also, also being additionally scared of Gavin Newsom, why? Nobody’s scared of Gavin Newsom. Knock it off. I hear you quivering. I’m not quivering in the slightest.
SPEAKER 04 :
I’m quivering at your obstinance here.
SPEAKER 03 :
Why do you also recoil from the specter of vigorous debate? I love vigorous debate.
SPEAKER 04 :
The guy’s the governor of California who’s likely going to be a formidable Democrat candidate. Why do you want to platform him? You know what?
SPEAKER 03 :
Let him be an obscurity.
SPEAKER 04 :
Because it’s a free country, and I’m going to judge. Oh, it’s a free country. Oh, is it free speech, Mahmoud? Is it free speech? Uh-huh.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, it’s a free.
SPEAKER 04 :
Actually, this one is. Uh-huh. Oh, is it? I don’t care. I love it. Well, it’s not. Look, it’s not. I’m not talking about a rights thing. I’m just saying don’t go on his show. Don’t give him the time of day and don’t platform him. I would do it tomorrow. Because he’s winning people over, people in the middle, people who are not as good. See, you’re playing to your own bubble. You’re in your own bubble. You’re not thinking about independents, people in the middle who are going to say, we got to win, Mark. It’s about winning, not about good radio, not about good broadcasting.
SPEAKER 03 :
Maybe it is flip sides of the same coin. Because as Gavin Newsom talks to Charlie Kirk and talks to Steve Bannon, I don’t know how the savage thing is going to go. But in those particular examples, you are concerned about people, sort of the mushy middle. Yeah, I’m concerned about him winning. Concerned that they will watch this and think, wow, this Gavin Newsom guy. He’s not so bad. He might be pretty okay.
SPEAKER 04 :
Because, by the way, let me stipulate, because he’s gaslighting. He’s not a moderate. He’s not pro-Steve Bannon. He doesn’t want to be polite to Republicans. We’re going to learn that anyway.
SPEAKER 03 :
his presidential campaign and we’re gonna wind him on fire but let me finish are we if i may and that is for every person who watches the the gavin newsom and charlie kirk gavin newsom and uh And Michael Savage. For everybody that watches those, for every person who goes, well, the Gavin Newsom guy might not be so bad. Yes, yes. I think there are two people, again, defining them as people coming in with no agenda, just kind of on, you know, who will hear Charlie Kirk and hear Steve Bannon and go, those guys are geniuses. I think that number is bigger.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s a win. Well, that’s a gamble. That’s a gamble. That’s a roll of the dice. And if he winds up being president, first of all, I’ll blame you.
