Oh, it’s so wrong. Okay, one other thing I’m going to slip in here, because I got this text message last week. Folks, please, I understand there’s some really good, solid Christian people out there that listen to our program, and I’m very thankful for each and every one of you. I also understand that there’s a lot of you out there that have very little faith, no faith. Maybe you’re on the left, maybe you are on the right, and you’re still somebody that doesn’t have a faith. Reality is, folks, this is a show for everyone, and I do my best. Yes, there are times where I get off on sort of that religious rant and I kind of go down some rabbit holes periodically, but we are— by licensing a secular station. That is KLZ. We are not a Christian station. We are God and country. You hear us talk about that all the time. Yes, Mr. Crawford Sr. has his stand and his PSAs and so on, but at the end of the day, KLZ is a secular station. It’s what our license says. In fact, we’re very careful to not do too much of the religious aspect of things, because once again, you know, we are a secular station. Now, with all that said, you know where I stand, you know where Andy stands. There’s nothing that, you know, we’re not hiding anything as far as that goes, and we’re not ashamed of our faith or anything along those lines. But I want to make sure that I’m very clear that we are a secular station, because every now and again, Andy will do a movie review, and I’ll hear some comment about, how could any Christian ever go to that movie? Well, you know, to each his own is my answer to that. I am not here to judge what you do. You are not there to judge what anybody else does. And all sorts of people go to all sorts of different movies, and we review them all because of that.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, and by the way, one of the reasons this Christian goes to those movies is to warn Christians about those movies.
SPEAKER 03 :
Correct. So some of the reviews you will hear is basically, don’t go to this. Yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
Or if you go, here’s what you’re going to see, guys.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yes. And so some of you at times, I think, get a little offended that a particular movie gets reviewed versus some other movie. But at the end of the day, folks, again, we’re not a Christian station. We are a secular station. And yes, we do secular movie reviews on pretty much the hot movies that are out on any given week. It’s what we do.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, the ones that are going to sell the biggest almost always. I mean, there are a few exceptions where there’s one that I just know nobody is going to want out of our listenership. But for the most part, I go to the biggest ones. I love when I can have Christian and faith-based movies.
SPEAKER 03 :
Problem is, there’s not that many of those.
SPEAKER 14 :
No, there aren’t. And a lot of them are low quality. But hey, you know what? Let’s be honest. Let’s be honest. A lot of secular movies are low quality.
SPEAKER 03 :
That’s true, too. Good point. There you go. You’ve had plenty of one stars here of late. Oh, yes. Absolutely. Oh my god. What kind of monsters are we?

Well, we’re about to find out, aren’t we, John?

Yes, we are. Okay, Sydney Sweeney, we all know her. She stars as Millie, a young woman trying to put her past behind her. Now, Millie needs a job, so she interviews to work as a housemaid at a seemingly idyllic home of Nina and Andrew Winchester. Now, those are Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar. Brandon Sklenar, he’s one of the super hunks that are out there now. Okay, but all of this is not as it seems as secrets abound behind closed doors with the Winchesters. But first, we have Millie, who is bursting with secrets herself. Unlike the sparkling resume she offered Nina, Millie is actually fresh out of prison, John. Desperately needing this job to stay in good graces with her probation officer. So she’ll stay through almost anything. Nina, we soon learn, is basically insane. She puts Millie in an attic space with one window that doesn’t open and a door that locks from the outside. Okay.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, no thanks.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah. Nina barks orders at Millie, purposely setting her up for failure with tasks. Well, like picking up Nina’s daughter, Cecilia, when Cecilia was already scheduled to be somewhere else. For some reason, Crazy Nina is torturing Millie, but Millie really needs to stay. Then, of course, there’s Andrew, who is super handsome. Aren’t all Andrews? I mean, I’m just saying. I think all of them.
SPEAKER 03 :
Yeah, I think they are, yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, okay. Since Millie is also super hottie, they, of course, are hot for each other. The whole thing plays like the most predictably trashy woman’s novel ever written. Two beautiful people thrust into each other’s arms while the evil wife torments them. It’s embarrassingly simple. But not everything is as it seems, and the plot takes some sharp twists. What are these sharp twists? I won’t tell you. Suffice to say, this film gets crazier and crazier. Ultimately, we see more strategy than we expected in how secrets control our lives. That’s the story of The Housemaid. What do you think?
SPEAKER 03 :
Doesn’t sound bad.
SPEAKER 1 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 14 :
Okay, well, what works in The Housemaid? Well, first of all, the series of plot twists is good in the last third of the movie. Very good. Just like the book. Next, this film is made entirely for women audiences. Okay? And I mean all women. Right? I was in there. It was all women except one other guy was dragged in by a woman. He looked miserable. I mean, he looked like, well, a hostage video. Okay. I mean, that’s kind of how he looked. It’s like, I love you all at home. I hope to see you again one day. And he sat down. He was quiet. And, you know, and he said nothing. Wow. I mean, I’m sorry, but it’s totally women audiences. They’re going to get… And these women audiences are going to get all the trashy, steamy, forbidden naughtiness their hearts desire. Sorry, but that’s who reads this novel. It really is. Naturally, Sweeney, she looks the part, of course. So maybe some teen boys will go to see her in all her glory. And Sklenar is a classic hunk. That’s what audiences want, John.
SPEAKER 04 :
And they get it. Okay.
SPEAKER 14 :
But Amanda Seyfried, in my opinion, is the key as she plays the psycho. Personally, I don’t think that’s far off from her real life self, but that’s another story.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 14 :
Personally, I just think that she’s, well, she’s really mean. Okay. She’s one of these who says things about Trump that are vicious and so forth, you know. Bottom line, she nails the part. I think she’s a good actress. I think she’s very good here. It was interesting, by the way, to watch a Republican, Sweeney, battle a real-life psycho Democrat in Seyfried. I kind of like that. I mean, this woman insulted Charlie Kirk after his murder, all right? Yikes. And now you’ve got them going head-to-head in this movie. I thought that was interesting. Now, what doesn’t work in The Housemaid? First of all, John, too long. Much too long. Even with the plot twists, which they hyper-explain. They hyper-explain the plot twist to you. Going over 210 is just brutal for a trashy, sexy thriller. Get to the point, Hollywood. Next, ludicrous. Okay, now, I want you to imagine this for a moment. At one point, a villain, he is locked in a room. And Millie slides a pair of pliers under the door, asking him to do something painful. Okay, big problem here, John. The hinges on that door face inward. She just gave him pliers.
SPEAKER 03 :
Which means he could get out.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, I’m just sitting there. I’m looking up at the hinges, down at the pliers, up at the hinges, down at… Dude, you just… You can just pull them right off. I mean, I’m sorry, but have none of these people watched Home Improvement?
SPEAKER 03 :
Never.
SPEAKER 14 :
By the way, that window that doesn’t open, you just gave them a blunt object. No, it does. I’m just, help me here, John. Am I not seeing something here?
SPEAKER 03 :
No, I get you.
SPEAKER 14 :
Okay. Honestly, also, this needed some humor or something. It really does. One can only handle so much steamy, forbidden lustfulness before you start to doze off. A peppier script really would have helped. And once again, people say, why do Christians go to these movies? So I can warn you. That’s why. I mean, let’s face facts. There are a lot of people who are going to say, Sidney Sweeney, she’s on our side. Let’s go to this. Okay, I’m going to tell you something. You’re going to see a lot. You’re going to see all of Sidney Sweeney. You’re going to see all of Brandon Sklenar, pretty much all. And, folks, you’re going to see all of a lot. Let me just tell you this. This is a steamy thriller.

Just want to warn you. That’s why I’m here. All right. Rotten Tomatoes gave this 77%. You know what? That’s a little rich for my blood, but quality overall, because I factor in the audience that this is for. This isn’t for me.

Obviously, I was miserable in this movie.
SPEAKER 03 :
Right.
SPEAKER 14 :
I’m giving this three stars.

I think this is a little above average movie. I think it had a pretty decent pace. For the most part, they did too much setup. Okay. It was too slow early on. That was kind of painful. But it had a pretty decent pace for the story. Had some good, you know, plot twists going back and forth. So I thought that was pretty good. Political, two. It was pretty feminist. I’ll just say it. Or religious. What do you say? One. How’s that? Moral Religious 1. Obviously, this was not a moral movie. Once again, I’m here to warn you.

It’s not the genre.

Yeah. Do I recommend going to The Housemaid? I don’t think, once again, that it matters. This is actually going to sell very well. This was a very popular book. not with any single male of the species nationwide, but females read this book a lot, and they loved this book, and they are buzzing online about going to this movie as fast as they can. What they’re going to do is they’re going to go in week one, and then this movie is probably going to drop off real fast. Do I recommend going to The Housemaid if you are in the target audience? Yes. There you go.

Yeah, and just so you know, folks, all that fire but no steaks. So for anyone who’s thinking this is a grilling movie, which is what I would have liked, I’m sorry. This is not a grilling movie. Okay, here we go. James Cameron, he returns us to the beautiful world of Pandora where the wonderful Navi people are all blue and fat-free.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 14 :
Okay. Honestly, if you put a blue lens over an ad for Obsession, you’d have the Na’vi cast. All right. Sam Worthington, he stars as Jake, a Marine corporal who was placed in a Na’vi body for the first film. That’s why we say Avatar, right? You’re placed in that body. Okay. Jake was part of a nearly all-white invasion from Earth. We, of course, wrecked our planet, so we wanted to colonize Pandora by overpowering the weak little Na’vi. Actually, they’re much taller than us. The problem is we can’t breathe the air. So humans must wear oxygen masks while they’re there. Anyway, Jake has left the evil white invaders, taking a Navi wife and building a family. This is all previous films. Jake’s old leader. Colonel Quaritch, now this is still previous films, is played by Stephen Lang. He’s the villain, and he has been for quite a while. Quaritch is also in a Na’vi body, but he is determined to help his evil white colonizers kill the natives. I mean, Colonel George Custer, anyone? That’s basically who he is. Okay, Zoe Saldana, she plays Neytiri, all right, Jake’s wife. The record, I think she has set the record for the most colors played in movies, by the way. Really, Guardians of the Galaxy, green. And this, she’s blue. She’s played Hispanic. She’s played black. She’s played everything. I think she’s got a wide range. I actually really like Zoe Saldana. I think she’s really good. Okay. There are countless characters here, but the other main ones are Carrie. the daughter who has a mystical connection to the mother goddess or something, Spider, a human boy adopted by the family, and Loak, Jake and Neytiri’s son. We still, of course, have the new clan from the previous film called the Way of Water. That was number two, right? Avatar 2. They have green skin and they largely live in the water. So we got blue clan, green clan, and the white people coming to wipe them out. All right. Now in this film, we get another clan, a reddish one. These are the fire people, John, and they’re not nice. They want to kill the blues and greens for some reason. I have no idea why. And they are led by yet another tall, thin, because they’re all tall and thin, right? A lady named Varang. Now Varang has also some, she’s kind of a witch. She is tied into the mystic arts as well and can manipulate fire. And they all love fire anyway. So they’re the fire people. Are you following all this?
SPEAKER 03 :

Blue people, green people, red people. Okay. Well, Quaritch sees an advantage here. Evil allies. So he joins in. And, of course, Varang, she likes Colonel Quaritch. All right. Ultimately, this is a replay of the first two films. I mean, really a replay. You got the evil white invaders, innocent natives, mother planet goddess. You know, be at one with nature, not against it. We’ll all with breathtaking scenes and endless CGI battles. Oh, and save the whales. Got to save the whales. John, when you woke up this morning, did you think about saving the whales?
SPEAKER 03 :
No. I thought about, is the lights going to be on?
SPEAKER 14 :
Okay, then you are not going to be in the cast of Avatar Fire and Ash, John, because you did not think about saving the whales.

That’s two movies. You blew it.

Just so you know. Okay, what works in Avatar Fire and Ash? First of all, more incredible visions with every scene. You’ve got the aerial battle, sea battle, spiritual scenes. It’s just… Fantastic sights gobbling up your eyesight from left to right on the entire screen. It’s just incredible to watch the entire way through, and they’re great at it. James Cameron is putting the kind of money into this that is just incredible. That’s all I’ll say. It’s a delight to watch. Next, you got a good plot line with Spider. He’s the human boy who must become a human who can breathe Pandora’s air. because he’s on Pandora a lot, and switching out masks over and over and over, that gets dangerous, right? What if one of them runs out of its charge? You’re going to die. So they’ve got to do something for him. And once again, you have a good focus in this movie on family. And by the way, if you love the environment and hate humans, this is the movie for you.

Okay, that’s what works in Avatar, Fire and Ash. Now, what doesn’t work in Avatar, Fire and Ash? Well, John, I feel like I just watched an elaborate screensaver for 3.15. Wow. Three hours and 15 minutes of watching basically a screensaver. I mean, wow. Elaborate scene. You know, those really good screensavers that switch from scene to scene to scene to scene to scene. That’s what this was. It was pure tedium. I mean, this is one of the most tedious movies I’ve ever watched. I’m just going to say this right now. Corey went with me. Okay. She hated this movie. I have not heard her gush about how much she hated a movie. Like this?
SPEAKER 03 :

SPEAKER 14 :
Probably in years.
SPEAKER 03 :
Really?
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah. I mean, she hated it, hated it. I can already tell you, she would give it a zero. Wow. She despised this movie. Okay, and let’s get into why. First of all, there are far too many stories. The first two films were much more focused than this. But this one went all over the place, diving deeply into many characters. Too many characters. Good Lord, John, I was bored. Please, don’t dive deeply into another character. Make a different movie. For that character or those two or three characters. I mean, break it up, do something. But oh my gosh, they dove deeply into way too many storylines. And then what they would try to do is wake you up because they knew they were putting you to sleep. So they try to wake you up by snapping you into another action sequence. Have the fire people attack again, have the people attack again or deal with the whales or whatever. See where I’m going with this all over the place. No focus at all. I literally cared nothing for nearly all the characters. There’s just too many John with too much boring dialogue. A lot of, a lot of dialogue was really boring. I’m just like, uh-huh. They’re talking. Well, okay then. Worse yet, the story is incredibly predictable. A total rerun. Now, next, virtually no humor. Has Hollywood forgotten how to write humor, especially for big action films? My goodness, John, in the old days, big action films always had what? Several moments of really good humor, didn’t they? They did. This has virtually none. I mean, there’s virtually nothing funny in this movie. It was so boring. Finally, the final battle. It’s not close at all. Think about that. I mean, you would think, well, it’s going to be really a real cliffhanger. No. I know they tried to prop it up as one at times. But, John, this is Custer at the Little Bighorn. The whites are overrun from all sides. I’m not giving anything away there. Watch the preview. It’s ridiculous. And I’m just watching this wondering, you know, I spent over three hours to get to this. Okay? And don’t get me wrong, it’s fantastic to look at. All of it, it’s the best screensaver I have ever watched for over three hours. I want you to know that. But, John, this, you want to think that things are a little bit in doubt. Okay? Yikes. Okay. Rotten Tomatoes. They gave this, by far, the lowest review of any of the three Avatar movies so far. The other two were well over 90. This is 68%. That tells you a lot. Okay. And especially when you think about that’s got to be propped up fair amount by this is as left-wing agenda as you can possibly get. I mean, mother earth tap into the earth. We are all part of the earth. We all, you know, communicate with the earth and with the plants and with the animals and with the species. And we all connect with each other and we are all just one. I mean, it is the most new agey thing you could possibly make. without just having Shirley MacLaine speak on a stage for two hours. Okay? Incredibly. So you would think what? That the reviewers are just going to give it across the board great reviews. They didn’t. It was too much for them. They were bored. Okay, quality, I’m going to go right down the middle. Just for the look of it, I’m going to give it, for general audiences, two and a half stars.

I’m going to say right out, for me it was a one. For my blushing bride, Corey, it was a negative something. I don’t know how far it would go. Not bad. Oh, she hated it. She was miserable. She looked like a hostage video. I mean, she looked miserable. Political, I’m giving it a zero, obviously. Okay. And by the way, it’s super preachy.

Yeah, yeah. They don’t hold back. Moral religious, I’m giving it a three, unless you think that scantily clad blue people is… They’re all scantily clad, but the blue people, the green people, the red people, but so? That’s what it is. They are what they are. Whatever. It’s National Geographic, basically. More religious, I’ll give it a three. And I also thought, you know, nice family message as always, but honestly, I kind of got buried here. Wait, I’m going to give it some kudos for one thing. At least they showed the value of guns. Okay? Okay. Yeah. Jake decided early on, look, I’m not going to take a knife to a gunfight. He literally says that, by the way. Good for him. Good for him. Yeah. Go. Little Amendment 2 going on there because they knew they had to have guns. So I’m going to give it that. Avatar, Fire, and Ash. Do I recommend going to this, folks? You’re going to want to see the next part of the screensaver. Okay? I know you are. So go watch the screensaver.

They thought things were going to be much worse than they actually are. And a lot of people, 90,000 homes, I think, right now without power. Xcel Energy, you blew it on this one. Yeah, yeah. And these are ordinary kids. And in my opinion, that is the greatest reading of the Christmas story ever done in movie history.

Yeah, it’s iconic. And by the way, the rest of the show is really good. It’s a funny, fresh little show. And in this day and age when they try to adultize all the kids everywhere, right? It is so fresh and real and pure to watch the Charlie Brown Christmas. I love it.

Andy, I cannot disagree against one of those things that you and I, we have played this for a long time now. So all of you listening, it’s something that we do on an annual basis. And you know what? I could hear that over and over and over and over again. Doesn’t matter to me.

Those are the sorts of things that are timeless, Andy. I don’t know how else to say it. Literally, Charlie Brown Christmas is a timeless movie.

All right, wrapping up this first hour. And you know what? I know there’s a lot of you listening because of this Xcel Energy debacle. And I’m going to call it what it is. It is absolutely a debacle. This is a huge poke in the eye. I said this a couple of days ago for Xcel Energy because of the lawsuit that they had. Huge, huge poke in the eye, basically telling all of their customers that, yep, you know what? You sue us one time. We’re just going to shut your power off from now on. I don’t blame them for that. And somebody said the other day, John from Cheyenne, that the person to blame is the judge that didn’t throw that case out from day one because of what an atrocity it actually was. But at the end of the day, Xcel Energy took a huge hit. There was no fault of theirs in that particular case, or they admitted no fault. They paid out anyways. At the end of the day, here’s what’s happened. Because of a bunch of what I consider to be ambulance-chasing lawyers and a bunch of underinsured individuals on their homes, we’re all now paying the price.
SPEAKER 14 :
Right. And, John, for those people like me, now I have already heard your show, but for those like me who are in areas that did not get shut down, can you kind of remind people what happened?
SPEAKER 03 :
Well, like me, I’m on the west side of town. So we were shut down Wednesday at about 10 o’clock. Got power yesterday, Thursday at noon. It was on until 530. Well, in my case, 547. Some of you are saying, geez, John, right to the second. Yeah, because I was getting ready this morning when it. So 547 this morning, it went back off, and they’re predicting it won’t be back on until late tomorrow night. Although now with the winds actually dying down and not being near the storm that they thought, my prediction is some of that will come back on much sooner. Because again, as I said earlier in Ready Radio, they’re losing a boatload of revenue right now with all these homes that are shut off because there’s no billing going on right now. Right, right. And it’s a high cost for all of the linemen and folk they brought in, the trucks, the linemen, and so on. There’s a high cost just to have all this labor and stuff running around. So, again, at the end of the day, I would venture to guess that they want to get these things back up and running as quick as they can because they make money. On the same token, they’re mitigating risk is what they’re doing, basically. And I hate to say this, there’s too many, again, there’s too many ambulance chasing lawyers and money hungry customers that want to blame everybody else on their own problem, being undersured, etc. And now we’re all paying the price.

Yes, absolutely.

That’s the answer.

By the way, the fact that this is such a litigious society drives up all our costs.
SPEAKER 03 :
It does.

It drives them all up. And you know what I want for Christmas? I want them gone. I mean, we advertise a wonderful lawyer here who, by the way, represented my wife in an auto thing where she won easily. And there are wonderful lawyers out there. But, John, there are way too many that are simply driving a system that is – I mean, people think that it only drives up our costs a little bit.
SPEAKER 03 :
Oh, no. It drives up a ton.

Oh, my goodness.

How much more are we paying for everything? I mean, pharmaceuticals, health care, our cars, everything, all because of the threat of lawsuits.

I would guess. I would guess, Andy. This is a wild guess, but I bet if you ran the math, I might even be low in my figures at least 20%. Yes. At least 20%. And that might be a low figure.
SPEAKER 14 :
John, I didn’t even get into things with housing. OK, your life probably costs. And if we want to go at a very low end, 10 to a high end, 25, 30 percent more overall just because of our litigious society. And by the way, all of that could be fixed with a little thing called loser pays.
SPEAKER 03 :
Loser pays, tort reform, things like that. Absolutely. Tort reform. Yep.
SPEAKER 14 :
Which is very similar to loser pays.
SPEAKER 03 :
uh really quick here all needed by the way andy all needed really quick here with your power out what are you doing like barely opening the freezers i mean no i actually have have things set up you guys all know me i’m fairly handy i’ve got my boiler system working off of a generator so i’ve got heat i’ve got the refrigerators uh working you know some refrigeration i should say working because i’ve got a portable actually i have a portable power pack that runs the fridge just fine oh cool Yeah, it works. Actually, for those, and I’ve talked about this before, the Jackery unit, I’ve talked about that on Ready Radio, actually works fabulous. In fact, as far as just that particular appliance goes, just unplugging it from the wall and plugging it into that, it’s just slicker and snot.

We’ll get through the night. I mean, we’ve got lanterns and flashlights and so on. Andy, at the end of the day, not a huge, huge issue. We’ll be fine. It’s an inconvenience to us is what it is. Now, I get it. There’s a lot of folks out there where if you’re on a medical machine or things like that, it is a real true emergency. For me, it’s an inconvenience and an annoyance is what it really is. Yeah. It’s not an emergency on my part. It’s a huge annoyance.
SPEAKER 14 :
But all these ambulance chasers, and I’m not talking about the lawyers, I’m talking about the clients, all these people who basically live by lawsuits, who are very quick to file a lawsuit at work if they feel slighted or hurt or looked at the wrong way. I’m telling you what, those people who are around you who do that are driving up the cost of living in our society.
SPEAKER 03 :
Andy, 100% correct. 100% correct.

They’re making life so much worse for the rest of us.

And be careful how I say this. There are legitimate times where people are injured and somebody didn’t do something correct, some company did something wrong, or an apartment complex, building, housing, whatever, something’s not done correctly. Those are legit, Andy. Of course. And I have no issues with those whatsoever. Unfortunately, there’s a lot of people that sue because hot coffee at the drive-up got spilt on their lap.

John, it is not those few legitimate concerns that are clogging the courts today. They’re being clogged by all the others, by people who are basically living their lives, making huge amounts of money off the legal system and driving up your costs of living.

No, and it’s something that we’ll talk about in the future because, as I said during Ready Radio, what we’re experiencing right now with Xcel Energy, folks, we are not even close to being done. This, in my opinion, is just the tip of the iceberg. You’re going to see this in a lot of other events that come up. Anytime they think they might have some exposure to a lawsuit, you’re going to see exactly what’s happening now happen again, Andy.
