SPEAKER 10 :
It’s finally Friday on Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 14 :
So I tell him I’m a pro, Jack.
SPEAKER 10 :
And who do you think they give you?
SPEAKER 14 :
The Dolly Lama. So he finished 18, and he’s gonna sniff me. And I say, hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know? And he says, oh, uh, it won’t be any money. And when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.
SPEAKER 11 :
So I got that going. And movie reviews with Andy Payne.
SPEAKER 19 :
I think that you got the wrong impression about me. I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do.
SPEAKER 04 :
What I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
SPEAKER 15 :
What do you want to do tonight?
SPEAKER 10 :
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world. Stick a fork in me, Jerry. I’m done. Now, here is your host of Rush to Reason, John Rush.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, welcome. Friday edition Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Myself, Andy Pate, Charlie Grimes on a beautiful Friday, December the 20th.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yep, heading into Christmas time.
SPEAKER 07 :
It is super, super nice. So if you haven’t been outside, get outside and enjoy it because it’s really nice. Hunter from Cub Creek, speaking of being nice, it’s also cold at night though, so you still need your furnace, Hunter.
SPEAKER 08 :
That is right, and every once in a while we get a cold day.
SPEAKER 07 :
And we’re not out of winter yet, so as you know, we get spoiled with these, and the worst is yet to come. Let’s just say that.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, typically that January, February is when it really starts to get cold.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, this is not uncommon. I can remember being here my whole life, as you. I’ve grown up here, and I can remember many a Christmas where it was super nice outside. You get your toys, you go outside, you hang out, you have fun. Maybe you got a new football or whatever the case may be. I can also remember some where there was two foot of snow.
SPEAKER 08 :
I agree with that completely.
SPEAKER 07 :
We can have either or. Bottom line, these things need to be functioning properly. And what are you finding right now, Hunter, as you go out and do service calls and so on? What are some of the big things you find right now?
SPEAKER 08 :
The big things are igniters. We’re starting to get mostly igniters, filter changes, furnaces going out on high limits. That’s some of the big stuff. And obviously that’s mostly wear and tear and normal maintenance stuff. So, yeah, if you have us check out your furnace before then, it’s a good way to prevent. We can catch those things hopefully before they go out and leave you stranded.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay. So you can basically see if an igniter is going. You can check that.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, we can look at it and we do a visual inspection on it. And if there’s any, yeah, if there’s any signs of it starting to crack or typically like on hot surface igniters, they start to get some like white discoloration and stuff like that. That’s usually a pretty good sign that they’re at their end of their life, getting towards the end of their life. And for something like that that’s a relatively small repair, it’s definitely worth the money and the peace of mind just to replace it at that point. Sure.
SPEAKER 07 :
Hunter, and this is something we haven’t chatted about, so I’m just going to spring this on you. Is there any big environmental-type changes coming when it comes to furnaces and things like that that folks need to be looking at? In other words, is there any major EPA new regs coming in 2025 or 2026 that if folks wanted to be ahead of that, they can? Or is there any major changes coming at all?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, actually starting January 1st, they are releasing their new, the EPA is releasing their new refrigerant regulations. So that pertains more to the air conditioning side of things. But the current refrigerant we’re using now, they are going to start to phase out. Now, that doesn’t mean that it’s going to be not available at all, but they are going to start phasing it out and moving to two different new refrigerants. So with that, of course, everybody, all the manufacturers and everything else are using that time to –
SPEAKER 07 :
roll out their new line of equipment and everything else so um as far as that goes we do see um some price increases coming with that yeah i’m assuming i don’t know your industry but on the automotive industry we switched over to the you know why you know the one two three four yf which is their newest refrigerant which i’m guessing is now hitting you guys which is a lot more expensive than what we had prior
SPEAKER 08 :
Our stuff has been expensive, but actually it’s funny that you say that. The two refrigerants we’re switching to are R32 and R404B. And the second of the two actually is a mixture of R32 and your automotive refrigerant, YF1234 or whatever that is.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, that’s why it’s going to be expensive. It just is. So the question I have along those lines, if somebody’s thinking of doing a complete upgrade, they want to do the furnace, they want to do the AC unit, get them all done at the same time, would it benefit them to get that done prior to these things being mandated and there’s no old inventory of the less expensive refrigerant?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, it’s hard to say. I would say yes, but the way they’re moving, and it is moving fast, and everybody’s starting to phase out. So we are starting to see where we are starting to have issues getting the older equipment. And it really just depends on brand. Because the mandate is January 1st, they cannot manufacture the old 410A units anymore. They still will supply parts and we will still have parts for our 410A units. um through i think they’re telling us 2025 january of 2020 or sorry january of 2026 okay um and then after that it’ll start backing out just kind of like previously like r22 did okay so something to think about folks and hunter i know that five hundred dollars or more you guys can help with the financing of things whether it’s a complete you know furnace replacement or just a part that you need to take care of you can handle that for folks as well right Absolutely. And the other thing, too, that we do want to mention is we do give free second opinion. So if you have another company come out and they tell you you need a new furnace or anything and you don’t feel right about it, we do offer that free second opinion and we will always be honest and fair with you on what you offer. what fits you and what your needs are, and we’ll give you our honest opinion.

SPEAKER 20 :
Suck it up, buttercup. Back to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 09 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John. Are you ready for a movie?
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 09 :
It’s Christmas time. You got to be ready for movies.
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. Okay. Well, John, we’ve seen The Lion King. Yeah. Right. But what about his father, Mufasa? Well, it’s time for a new CGI lion movie in Mufasa.
SPEAKER 21 :
This story begins far beyond the mountains and the shadows. On the other side of the light. A lion was born without a drop of nobility in his blood. A lion who would change our lives forever.
SPEAKER 10 :
The Earth will shake.
SPEAKER 21 :
Destiny awaits you.
SPEAKER 09 :
All right, John. John, do you have a drop of nobility in your blood? Yeah. You do? Of course. From what? I don’t. You don’t have any? No. There’s nothing noble about me.
SPEAKER 07 :
They did a measurement, and they found nothing noble in me. One of my ancestors signed the Declaration of Independence. Really? Yes. Benjamin Rush.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, that’s very impressive, sir. That’s very impressive. None of mine did. Mine were a bunch of German Nazis back at that time, probably. I don’t know. We actually came over before that. But okay, here we go. We all know about the Lion King, but what about his dad? How did Mufasa get started? Well, as a young cub, Mufasa was not royalty at all, but he had good parents, John, very good parents, wonderful mom, wonderful dad, and they loved him very much. Well, then tragedy strikes and Mufasa finds himself far from home and alone. Another young lion, Taka, and he’s going to be very important here. He rescues Mufasa from crocodiles and drowning. So that’s pretty cool. And Taka is next in line for being the lion king. But he really wants a brother. And so he takes Mufasa home. Well, Taka’s dad, the Lion King, rejects Mufasa since he doesn’t trust outsiders. But Taka’s mom cares for Mufasa and she sees great potential in him. You see, John, Mufasa, he has this incredible sense of smell. He knows if enemies or prey are nearby or even if they’re a long way off, he can really sense it. And it’s very, very impressive. You can almost see that he’s going to be a leader one day because he can sense what’s coming. Well, Mufasa also is very brave. And when he demonstrates this, the Lion King finally takes him in. But a rival group of white lions are invading the area. Oh, these Caucasians, I tell you.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER 09 :
They’re always running rampant.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s what they do.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah. Well, they’re invading the area. They’re larger. They’re ferocious. And as Taka’s parents are ready for their last stand, they send Taka and Mufasa, who are now teenagers, right? They send them away to preserve the lion. But the white lions and their great leader are also great trackers, so they pursue the two young lions into the mountains. Along the way, Mufasa and Taka, they meet, you know, they put together a little group. They meet a monkey, they meet a bird, and they also meet a female lion. Now, the monkey is named Rafiki, and he’s in all of the Lion King movies. And he is the wise monkey who goes on to guide Mufasa throughout his life. Unfortunately, Taka desires the female, but she has eyes for Mufasa. You see a problem right there, don’t you? Well, this drives a wedge between the two friends. Taka is also jealous of Mufasa’s great abilities. All along, while fleeing the White Lions and dealing with their growing rivalry, Mufasa and Taka are seeking a great paradise. a rich area that they’ve heard of since their youth. Some people see it, sorry, some lions see it as fantasy. It doesn’t actually exist. And those lions also question the circle of life. They say, oh, that’s a myth. That’s not real. Others, though, say it’s real. This land is real. We have to get there. It’s almost like Moses going to the promised land, only you just got this little group of them. Anyway, can they survive, John? And even if they do, will they be allies or enemies? And that’s the story of Mufasa. What do you think?
SPEAKER 07 :
The CGI looks tremendous.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes. I actually, and Charlie was talking about it during the break, they did some more unique things with the CGI here in their camera work and being able to follow the actors as they were portraying the various characters. And… I’ll just say, you know, the original CGI Lion King was, eh, it wasn’t that good.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, it was early in all that stuff. Remember how, I mean, it’s actually very old. We kind of forget that. It’s been a while now. It’s been a minute.
SPEAKER 09 :
Well, this is better. And the movement of the lions, the movement of the animals is better. Also, the facial expressions are better, as Charlie was mentioning at break. You can just tell more what a smile is and what laughter is and so forth. Okay, what works in Mufasa? Well, first of all, Let’s get to the obvious. Spectacular visuals. Absolutely spectacular. Very good action scenes with lots of them. I like that. This was at one point it’s about midway through and I’m thinking this is an action movie. This really is an action movie. They are flying, and that was pretty cool. And I was thinking, this is a movie that guys can enjoy more, because a lot of these movies aren’t. Mufasa, Taka, Rafiki, and Zazu the bird, they’re all very good characters. I thought the girl character was just meh. She wasn’t really all that interesting. They could have made her quirkier or different or more special, but they just kind of made her straight as a female who the guys both liked. There’s a nice leadership message in this. And leadership, you see, John, it’s not handed to you because of who you are. You have to earn it. It comes through sacrificing yourself and inspiring others to work together. That’s leadership, right? Getting other people to come together or lions, right? Or how about animals? Getting other animals to come together who don’t want to work together and having them do great things that they wouldn’t do without you leading them. That’s leadership.
SPEAKER 07 :
Can you get Colorado GOP to watch this?
SPEAKER 09 :
No. No.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m sure it’s banned at the headquarters. Sorry, I had to throw that in.
SPEAKER 09 :
I know, I know. Well, another really good message is the importance of good parents. I like that. Just having such wonderful parents makes a huge difference for the young lion, and it makes a big difference for us. Okay, what doesn’t work in Mufasa? Well, first of all, John, this is about 15 minutes too long. Okay. Now notice, I’m not saying it’s 45 minutes too long. I’ve had a number of movies in the last three weeks where I’ve said basically this has an hour of story in two and a half hours of movie, that kind of thing. It’s not that bad.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s two hours, right? This one is.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah, but they could have trimmed it a little here and there. It’s just under two hours. It should have been about an hour 40. And just to have that pace, you know, snapping along, bang, bang, bang. Not just the pace of the action, but the pace of the storyline. Keep it going. Don’t have it dragged down. At times they did. Just a little bit. Not bad, but a little. Dragged through the middle. Also, the plot. This is a big problem. It’s very predictable. I mean, come on. You see the woman lion, the girl lion. What’s going to happen? You already know what’s going to happen. You know the rest of the story. And it’s just kind of like, okay. Right. Because we’re all watching these two, and we know what’s going to happen because they’re setting up how those two are going to be in the Lion King. And that makes it kind of a hard watch when you know exactly what’s coming. Timon and Pumbaa. The two characters, they were the comedic characters from the original Lion King and also in the CGI Lion King. They were in this one as well. And they were there along with the storytelling monkey. And let me tell you something. They were awful. They were terrible. I would have paid extra money for the two of them to shut up. I leaned over and I mentioned it to Corey. She was there with me. And she said, they are awful. They’re not funny at all. They’re distracting. Shut up. They were killing the movie.
SPEAKER 07 :
And they made the movie before.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
The first one especially.
SPEAKER 09 :
There’s a little tactic that a lot of these movie makers will make when they’re making a movie for kids, but there’s going to be some harsh, scary, more adult-like elements in it. And you have those here. The… You know, there are lines who are going to die. There are lines who are going to get killed and so forth. Now, they keep that off screen, but it’s still dark. Right. And so what they then do is they come back to Timon and Pumbaa and they lighten it up really quick so that the kids won’t be crying and falling apart. That’s the whole idea. The problem is they’re not funny. They’re awful. And it’s just like, just shut up. You know, I just kind of wanted a pack of white lions to come in and eat Timon and Pumbaa. I think that would have added a lot to the film. I cannot stress enough how much they hurt this movie. Next. As I said, this is a bit dark for kids. Lots of killing, though it was kept off screen. Now, next. It had good music, especially the first song was pretty good. But it started to all sound the same, John. It all started to sound the same. In the first Lion King, the music was very different. This song is very different from this song. You know, I Can’t Wait to be King is nothing like the Circle of Life, which is nothing like. And it was different songs that kept the interest. When the songs all start to sound the same, you get the feeling they’re just putting another song in here for a song.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right. And that was the feeling I had here. It was still better than Wicked’s music, though, because Wicked had like, I think, 150 million songs packed into this. It was just song, song, song, song, song, song, song. Wicked was basically a an opera, basically. This, you know, an opera has virtually no speaking. It’s all singing.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s why I don’t go to one.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right. This is the opposite. Well, and this is a musical with only a few songs, but they were all the same. And Wicked only had like one really good song at the end and a couple of other pretty fairly memorable songs. And everything else was boring, not memorable at all. And it had a million of them. The reason I mention Wicked is this is not nearly that bad. Mufasa only has a few songs. It’s just that they’re not really memorable. And that’s kind of a problem. It needed more humor. Once again, they should have subbed out Timon and Pumbaa. They should have had all new characters because apparently these two are threadbare. They just don’t have it anymore. Remember when Dumb and Dumber, they made another one that was horrifying? It was awful. Okay, so you have these two incredibly funny characters, and then you try to make another one or make them when they’re young, and they just bomb, right? Sometimes a character is threadbare, John. Sometimes you’ve milked it for all it had. That character. Timon and Pumbaa, they had milked for all they had. They were trying to rehash the same old jokes. It was terrible. Now, also, there wasn’t much humor elsewhere in the movie. The other characters were not funny either. I thought the funniest character was probably, you know, they were trying to make the bird funny and he was semi-funny at times. I thought the monkey was the funniest. When the lions first met the monkey and they were going to eat him. The feeky? Yeah, and Rafiki’s just kind of looking at them. No, you’re not. And he just starts walking casually away. He doesn’t even care. It was kind of a funny moment. I liked that. But throughout the movie, there wasn’t much humor, and they could have done more. The original Lion King actually had a pretty fair amount of humor. It did. You’re right. Right. Okay. Rotten Tomatoes gives Mufasa, get ready, 57%.
SPEAKER 1 :
57%.
SPEAKER 09 :
He didn’t like it. Right. And… You got to think that this is a movie that is, you know, African culture. Now, you know, I don’t find that to be right or left wing, but, you know, let’s face it. These writers do find it to be left wing and that’s why they generally like it. So you would think that would pump up the rating on its own. They didn’t like it. They did not like this movie and nobody loved it. I’m going to disagree. I thought this was a pretty good movie. I thought it was a pretty good action flick. I thought the music, while it sounded the same, at least none of it was annoyingly bad or anything like that. And they didn’t have too much music. They only had like four or five songs. I’m going to give this three and a half stars.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s not bad.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes. For what it’s worth, my wife gave it four out of five. Good to know. But I told her I couldn’t quite go that high. I don’t think it was a really strong movie, but I thought it was a pretty good movie. I was entertained. I enjoyed it. Political three, moral religious three, didn’t say a thing. Thank you, Hollywood. Keep that up. And Disney. Yeah, thank you, Disney. Shut up. Are they learning? Yeah, Disney is starting to learn two words. Shut up. Just shut up. It’s not hard. It’s real easy to do. A lot of us do it. We do it every day. Everybody who’s listening to me right now has gone into work and had things you’d like to say to your coworker, you’d like to say to your boss, you’d like to say to that customer. And what are the two words you got to obey, John? Shut up. And Disney’s starting to learn those words, and that made Mufasa a better movie, too. Do I recommend going to Mufasa? Yes, I do. I don’t recommend it with accolades. I’m not saying, oh, this is going to be life-changing. It’s still a good movie. But I think it’s a good, fun holiday movie.
SPEAKER 07 :

SPEAKER 03 :
Reading is fundamental to understanding the world, and that’s why author Mike Goldstein wrote American Stonehenge. This breathtakingly beautiful book was written in order to bring parents and grandparents together with their children to enjoy stories while they learn to read. The book follows a boy and his immortal telepathic dog, with whom he communicates as they travel through time to learn about the dog’s experiences through history. SPEAKER 15 :
Now, back to Rush to Reason, presented by High Five Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling, where every call ends with a high five.
SPEAKER 09 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, John Rush, together with Andy Pate and John. Are you ready for another movie?
SPEAKER 07 :
This one I know nothing about. Sonic the Hedgehog? No.
SPEAKER 09 :
Are you not big into Sonic the Hedgehog?
SPEAKER 07 :
I hate to say it.
SPEAKER 09 :
You know, it was pretty fun, actually, at the theater. There were kids wearing Sonic hats all over the place.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, cool.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, they were having a ball. It was kind of fun to see a bunch of cute little kids all over the place wearing stuff for a kids’ movie that honestly wasn’t trying to indoctrinate them into anything, and I kind of liked that. Okay. All right. Well, John, real quick here. Jim Carrey… He did this film because he needed the money. Did you know this? That’s what you said last week. Yes, he actually did. And, folks, this is a true story because Jim Carrey had retired. He at least was going to take a long time off from doing movies. And they asked him why he did the movie. And why did you do the movie? He said, because I needed the money. He says, I bought a lot of stuff and I needed the money. That blows my mind. The guy should be a gazillionaire. Right. I mean, think of the money he has made just off. Oh, my gosh. just off all his old stuff being replayed. I have no idea. Anyway, he did this film because he needed the money. Let’s see if he earned it in Sonic 3.
SPEAKER 12 :
Sonic, you’re not ready to face this on your own. For years, he was a prisoner, but not anymore. Now you seek revenge. It’s known as the Project Shadow.
SPEAKER 14 :
We will need help. And for that, we will need Sonic Team immediately. This is completely different. Everything that mattered to him no longer exists. Okay, Shadow.
SPEAKER 11 :
My turn. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but we need you-know-who. We need your help.
SPEAKER 10 :
When I’m done with this, they will finally pay for what they did to me. And this world will have no escape from what awaits you.
SPEAKER 12 :
These two paladins. It is much more than that. He is a superior being.
SPEAKER 11 :
I don’t want to fight you, but you’re not giving me much choice.
SPEAKER 09 :
Sounds like quite a battle there. What do you think, John? Doesn’t sound bad. Yeah, it doesn’t sound bad. Okay. Well, first, let’s list some of the star voices for the characters because there’s so many, and I just want to get this out of the way. You’ve got Ben Schwartz. He is Sonic the Hedgehog. Colleen O’Shaughnessy, she’s Tails. Idris Elba, I love him. He’s Knuckles. Knuckles is the tough one who was the villain in a previous Sonic movie. And I’ll just say this. He’s very serious, and he’s very funny because of it. He is the funniest character in this movie, in my opinion. The villain, the new villain, Shadow, is played by Keanu Reeves, who is just so good in this because, once again, he’s very serious. Kristen Ritter is director Rockwell, while James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, they play Sonic’s human adopted parents, Tom and Maddie. All right. Let’s dive in. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. They are now a family with parents Tom and Maddie. The superhero trio are still on call with Gunn. That’s Guardian Units of Nations. That sounds scary, doesn’t it? That sounds very UN-ish. I’m worried about them. I don’t know. Well, anyway, they’re basically like the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D., right? Except that the Avengers weren’t a family like these guys. But now another super-powered hedgehog, Shadow, has been freed from stasis. He had been in stasis. He had been in a liquid that was keeping him from doing anything wrong for decades. Well, a secret villain has arisen, and he wants Shadow to help him get revenge. Now, revenge for what, you say? Well, the loss of someone who meant everything to them both. Now, Gunn calls Sonic and his team to stop Shadow, and Shadow is just too powerful. Hey, it’s Keanu Reeves, right? Come on, he’s too powerful. And Shadow can teleport back and forth during battle. He can come at you from all different angles. He can’t be stopped. Well, desperate to stop Shadow, Sonic must turn to his old nemesis, Dr. Robotnik. Jim Carrey, who has let himself go, let’s just say. He’s got a big gut now. He’s kind of out of shape. And he has a lot of fun with that. Well, Robotnik, for reasons of his own, he agrees to help Sonic. But then he encounters his long-lost granddad, Robotnik. This changes everything. Where will Robotnik’s loyalties lie? Well, ultimately, this is a story about how terrible loss in our past can drive us to vengeful destruction in our present. I think this is very applicable for a lot of people’s lives. You’ve seen people with pain in their past take it out on people in their current, right?
SPEAKER 07 :
True.
SPEAKER 09 :
We’ve all seen it. Well, can Sonic stop this destruction? And can people heal? And that’s the story of Sonic 3. What do you think? Doesn’t sound bad. Yeah, not bad at all. All right. Well, what works in Sonic 3? First of all, you got good action and pace through much of the film. Much of the film has a very good pace, certainly to the action because they’re whipping around lightning fast and with great special effects. And that’s all very impressive. But also there is a pretty good pace to the storyline. And that’s important. You have a pretty good amount of humor. You have funny sequences poking fun at Spanish soap operas. I thought that was pretty funny. Robotnik has become addicted to watching Spanish soap operas. You know, you’re in love with my twin brother, Raul, or whatever. It’s just kind of funny. There’s a nice array of central characters. Carrie is hamming it up as usual, doing a good job, while the vocal characters are good. As I said before, Idris Elba’s Knuckles, he’s the funniest character. He’s so serious. You have a nice message about the importance of family and friends, especially after loss. The worst thing you can do after you’ve gone through terrible loss or gone through a terrible gosh, loss or frustration or something in your life is to allow yourself to be isolated alone. Honestly, that can make you dangerous. And it’s much better if you are around others, especially family, but at least friends, people who can guide you back to reality during times like that. Uh, there’s an excellent backstory for shadow. Now this, this was the one, the one time of the movie and really it was the one time of this movie or Mufasa. So only once yesterday, uh, Did I find myself actually drawn into the story? This was good. And it’s a backstory about Shadow and a young girl who he got to know, not romantically as friends, just as friends. But it was very touching. The only time in the movie I cared about any character. Nothing against the other characters, but I didn’t care about them. It didn’t matter to me. It was just a matter, well, gee, do they entertain me or not? This, I cared. Well, there’s also some snappy dialogue for Carrie and some for Sonic. And that keeps the interest up because you got two pretty good comedic actors, obviously, Carrie and Ben Schwartz. And it’s good that they have some good dialogue. You don’t want two guys just trying to ham it up with lousy dialogue, but they have some good writing. What doesn’t work in Sonic 3? Well, it’s once again about 15 minutes too long. They dragged this out just a bit. You got too many characters with everyone needing their scenes. And that is a real problem. As you get to the third, fourth one in these sequels, what you often have is every single character, especially the human ones, they’re not going to come back if you don’t give them a few special scenes. And I mean, I’m talking about the actors. They won’t come back and redo it unless they get their scenes. And the problem is, a lot of times for these stretched out trilogies and so forth, they… They get drawn out, and you’ve got some really uninteresting scenes as a result, and that happens here. The Tom and Maddie scenes, they’re the parents. They’re silly. They’re boring. They should have been cut out entirely. Quite honestly, you didn’t need the characters at all. They were meaningless. You could have had a feeling of family with just the CGI characters. It was bad in that way. The humor. It’s for fans of the game and the trilogy or for children, but it’s not much for adults. I noticed there were a number of people laughing a lot of times during this movie where I wasn’t. And that’s when you know that you’re in a theater full of people who, this is their thing. They are clued in on this, and you don’t care. I mean, I saw the other Sonic movies.
SPEAKER 07 :
They’re Sonic the Hedgehog groupies. They’re groupies. There you go.
SPEAKER 09 :
They are, and that’s okay if it’s kids laughing, because I get that. But it was adults. That I didn’t get. I honestly didn’t understand. There were a few funny moments. Kerry had one funny line about playing himself. I thought it was very funny. But for the most part, I was kind of like, um… This isn’t very well written, but that’s okay. People are having fun, so who cares? Why, you know, microanalyze it. It really dragged out the ending, adding one more challenge after another, after another. It’s like, okay, okay, let’s wrap this puppy up. It’s becoming like Lord of the Rings Return of the King. You don’t know what that is, but everybody makes fun of Return of the King because it had like a million endings, and it would not end. It would not go away. Somewhere it is still running, trust me. And so Return of the King ending is kind of a way in movie critic ease of saying way too many endings. They kind of did that here. And it really dragged it out. It got old. Okay. Rotten Tomatoes loved this movie. They said it was… Almost all the critics said this is the best of the three. You know what? I’m… I don’t know. I thought the first one was a little fresher. But because of the shadow and his backstory, I think I’m going to agree. I think I’m going to agree. I’m not going to give it 88%. That’s four and a half stars. No way. But I’m going to give it three and a half.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 09 :
Now, for me personally, it was two and a half, but I’m not reviewing this for me. I’m reviewing this for general audiences, people who are going to go to this movie. There are people who are going to go to this, and it’s going to be a five because they’re Sonic heads, and they’ve got kids there wearing the little hats. Gosh, they were cute. They were so cute. You had to see it, especially ones with big glasses. So they had the big glasses and the hat on. It was very cute. Um, I’m going to give it three and a half. This is a good movie. The parents can go and they’re not going to be too bored. They’re going to enjoy it. Political three, more religious. Oh gosh, I gave it two and a half and I don’t remember why. I’m sorry. So I’m just going to say two and a half.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 09 :
Um, a little bit of language.
SPEAKER 07 :
That would be a 2.5.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Don’t need it.
SPEAKER 09 :
Don’t need it at all, but very little. It wasn’t that much, but yeah, I’ll grade it down. I’ll nick it down to 2.5. There you go. Do I recommend going to Sonic 3? Yes, I do. It’s worth seeing. It’s not bad, and I’m certain it’s going to set it up for Sonic 4, so you might as well know the storyline. There you go.
SPEAKER 07 :

SPEAKER 14 :
Now back to Rush to Reason on KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, we are back. Friday edition, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Question of the day. Yesterday, St. Nicholas was born in Patera. What is the country’s modern-day name? That would be Turkey. It was Turkish. Turkish.
SPEAKER 09 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
Turkish Santa. So in the movie, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, what were the three words used to describe the Grinch?
SPEAKER 09 :
Stink, stank, stunk?
SPEAKER 07 :
Pretty close, yeah. Good job, Andy. Took a shot. Did you know that one, Charlie, at all? It’s been so many years. Good job. All right. We do this every year, and Andy’s got it all queued up and ready to go. Do you want to play the… Probably the best, you know, the best…
SPEAKER 09 :
telling of the Christmas story.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, the best telling of the Christmas story ever in any movie.
SPEAKER 09 :
I believe so. I really do. And this is, of course, Linus from Charlie Brown Christmas, and he’s simply reading scripture here. And this, of course, is the scene that had the makers or the producers or the company or whatever didn’t want this thing on air. They said it’s too religious. No one’s going to like it. It’s an all-time classic. Here we go.
SPEAKER 05 :
Isn’t there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about? Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about. Lights, please. And there were in the same country shepherds, abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them. And they were sore afraid, and the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you. Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth, peace, goodwill toward men.
SPEAKER 09 :
Now he walks back over.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes, it is indeed, Linus.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes, it is indeed. Yes, it is. Wonderful. It’ll never sell. No one’s ever going to want to watch that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Greatest story ever told.
SPEAKER 09 :
And it’s the most popular Christmas movie. you know, certainly TV thing that’s ever been done.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. When we were kids, you watched it every year.
SPEAKER 09 :
I still do, John.
SPEAKER 07 :
Awesome.
SPEAKER 09 :
Yes, I still watch it every year.
SPEAKER 07 :
I love it. This kid watched it every single year. It’s just what you did. Okay, so we’ve got, of course, next hour, NFL picks. And then, as you would imagine, favorite Christmas movie. So if you’ve got a favorite Christmas movie, you want to get it sent to us, go ahead. Send us a text message. We can get that added to the list. We’ve got quite a few already. Yeah, you can call in at that point as well. Yeah, favorite Christmas movies. And it might be a little debate on what is a Christmas movie, but we’ll… There always is, John. We’ll get into that in the next hour. There always is.
SPEAKER 09 :
Every single year, we have a debate.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right. And then, really quick, and I… It’s Friday. We don’t get into a lot of politics and all of that. But the continuing resolution, there’s all sorts of clamoring on Capitol Hill over that and a lot of folks on the left that are mad because the Republicans didn’t let them have their way with the first round. And then there were some Republicans that voted the second one down because of the debt limit not being controlled. And essentially Trump wants that thing out there for two years so he can get done what he needs to do, which – I mean, I can kind of understand that on the same token. And this is where there’s times I don’t agree with Donald Trump. This is one of those. With all of his pushing of Doge and what they’re going to try to do to clean up government, why do you need that for two years?
SPEAKER 09 :
No, I agree. I don’t always agree with Trump. I mean, this isn’t a terrible—it’s not that big of a deal with me.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m not going to break fellowship over this. No, but do I disagree? At the end of the day, I don’t agree with this strategy.
SPEAKER 09 :
Look, John, I mean, you know my biggest disagreement with Trump is entitlements.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right.
SPEAKER 09 :
We need to raise the retirement age by at least five years, and we need to scale it up quickly. Why? Because people are living much longer, and this is breaking the bank. I disagree with Trump on entitlements, and I disagree with him here. That’s okay. I agree with him on about 99% of things.
SPEAKER 07 :
And again, for me, the only reason why I say that is we’re pushing our side. We are pushing for Doge to come in and do a lot of cleanup in government when it comes to spending and things along those lines. So if we do what they want to do, and I get it, that can take some time. It won’t happen overnight. On the same token, if you’ve got this hanging over your head where you know you don’t have a debt ceiling limit raising of for the next two years, in other words, if you’ve got to keep that in control, isn’t there more incentive to get that done faster then?
SPEAKER 09 :
Agreed.
SPEAKER 07 :
Absolutely. That’s how I would look at it.
SPEAKER 09 :
You know, another thing, John, I think people are being too hard on the Speaker of the House.
SPEAKER 06 :
I agree.
SPEAKER 09 :
Because, okay, so.
SPEAKER 06 :
I agree.
SPEAKER 09 :
The first thing he was going to try to put through, and by the way, terrible bill. I agree. It needed to be shot down. I’m totally with the big four. The big four are Trump fans. Vivek. Vivek and Elon. Right. Okay. They’re the big four now. They are the power mongers. They’re the big four, and they came out and said no.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right.
SPEAKER 09 :
Good for them.
SPEAKER 07 :
And I agree. 1,500 pages is far too much.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right. But however, the big four got in. They put together something and lost 38 Republican votes. Look, guys, when you have no… When you have a couple seats, majority one or two. And by the way, thank you, Matt Gates. Way to go, big fella. When your majority is that tiny, this is how hard it is. And for all those who say, oh, gee, it’d be so easy. Just, you know, get them together. Get them to get on board. You don’t understand. Every single one of them has to go back to their districts. And a lot of them are in purple districts. Right. And they have to go back and answer to their people there. People are being way too hard on Johnson.
SPEAKER 07 :
They are. Yeah, I don’t see this being his issue or his problem. Granted, he’s a speaker. He’s responsible for getting this done and so on. And again, you’d have to ask, why wasn’t this done prior to the election or even shortly thereafter? Well, there’s a lot of other things that are going on at that same time in his defense to where we make that sound really easy, but it’s not as easy as you think. And there was a Thanksgiving holiday in the midst of all of that.
SPEAKER 09 :
I agree. One last thing. A lot of people are also saying it’s President Musk. He’s actually running the show.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m so tired of hearing that.
SPEAKER 09 :
John, isn’t it this simple? The big four simply agree on pretty much everything. They like each other. Who cares?
SPEAKER 07 :
Trump’s in charge. I saw some responses to Musk having input upon this spending bill. Good. He is the largest single taxpayer in the country. Yes, he can have a voice at the table as far as I’m concerned.
SPEAKER 09 :
Works for me.
SPEAKER 07 :
Anyways, I’ll leave it at that. Golden Eagle Financial is next. Speaking of finances and all the things that we just went through when it comes to the continued resolution, please give Al a call when it comes to your own personal finances and the planning of retirement. Find him at klzradio.com.
SPEAKER 18 :

SPEAKER 07 :
All right, that is it for this first hour. Another full hour coming your way. Again, we’re going to do NFL picks and then, of course, your favorite Christmas movies. Text line 307-282-22. You can call in with your favorite movie as well. We’ll get into that here in just a few minutes, but don’t go anywhere. Hour two is next. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560.
SPEAKER 17 :
Average Guys Average Guys
