HR1 Rush To Reason March 21, 2025 by John Rush
SPEAKER 06 :
It’s finally Friday on Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 04 :
So I tell him I’m a pro jack. And who do you think they give me? The Dolly Lama. So we finish 18 and he’s going to sniff me. And I say, hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know. And he says, oh, it won’t be any money. When you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness. So I got that going. And movie reviews with Andy Pate.
SPEAKER 14 :
I think you got the wrong impression about me. I think in all fairness, I should explain to you exactly what it is that I do.
SPEAKER 12 :
What I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you.
SPEAKER 09 :
What do you want to do tonight?
SPEAKER 04 :
The same thing we do every night, Pinky. Try to take over the world. Stick a fork in me, Jerry. I’m done.
SPEAKER 06 :
Now, here is your host of Rush to Reason, John Rush.
SPEAKER 07 :
Filling in is Andy Pate, party of choice. And I’m your host, Andy Pate, filling in for John Rush. John’s taking a day off. He will be back on Monday. I’m joined today by Tanner Cole. Man. That’s right, too much man for all the women to handle. We do not have Luke Cash.
SPEAKER 18 :
Man.
SPEAKER 07 :
I know. We’re half a man.
SPEAKER 18 :
It’s unbelievable. I can’t believe he’d do that to us.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, Luke is actually a very dedicated worker, unlike you. You know, you’ve got all kinds of time. You could just wander in here. You know, Luke is working hard.
SPEAKER 18 :
I barely even got to look at the March Madness scores today, so I don’t know how much work he’s doing.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, my gosh. That’s pretty tough. I know. You’ve got a hard life. Okay. We’re going to talk a little about Snow White, and I’m going to be reviewing Snow White in the next segment. But first, before we get into the review of Snow White, I want to talk about why it’s such a big controversy. Have you heard a lot about what’s going on here?
SPEAKER 18 :
Her and Gal Gadot are good friends, but they’re completely on the opposite political aisle.
SPEAKER 07 :
And her being Rachel Zegler, the star who is Snow White. And there’s actually a lot more going on. Snow White is going to have a pretty big opening weekend, driven mostly by liberal parents and activists. It will be. And I’m going to tell you why. I hate it when these movies get all political like this. And the movie itself is really not. It gets a little bit, but not too political. But she has made it political. Rachel Zegler says, you know, blankety blank blank Trump. OK, she hopes Trump supporters and I quote, never know peace. You know, that’s not good to tell half your market. I’m just saying, you know, a little word to the wise here. That marketing plan on her behalf was so effective, Zegler has practically been buried now by Disney. Word has it, it’s just a rumor I’m hearing, she’s been dropped from several upcoming projects and she’s very upset. Right.
SPEAKER 18 :
Good on Disney. They finally figured something out.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, yeah, they figured out they like money.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
You know, and which is a good thing because let’s face it, ever since Lightyear especially, and they had been drifting down. They had been getting too woke, too woke, too woke. But when they fell off a cliff in the same year doing Lightyear and Strange World. They tanked. I mean, they lost hundreds of millions of dollars.
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, I mean, they lost people like me. I love Toy Story. I love Buzz Lightyear. It was him for Halloween when I was like four or five. I was so excited.
SPEAKER 07 :
I can picture that.
SPEAKER 18 :
I was so excited for the Lightyear movie. They heard someone was gay, and I was like, well, there’s no shot I’m going to that at this point.
SPEAKER 07 :
Can you say his line?
SPEAKER 18 :
To infinity and beyond. Oh, I thought it was from the new movie.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, no, not the new movie. Okay, there are more issues. Let me throw some out here. There’s the issue of having Gal Gadot play the Wicked Queen. I mean, because she’s supposed to ask, she asked the mirror, who’s the fairest of them all? And the mirror is supposed to say, well, it’s not you. It’s now Snow White, which is from the story.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
But this is Gal Gadot. This is Wonder Woman. So you tell me, who’s the fairest of them all, Rachel Zegler or Wonder Woman?
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, they should have switched roles in this movie. I mean, I’ve only seen so many clips of Rachel Zegler, but her just trashing Disney and then The Prince. I mean, all you have to do is watch the three biggest interviews she has, and there are only a minute or two, but she trashes the whole story. It’s like, well, you don’t deserve to be Snow White now if you don’t even understand the entire story.
SPEAKER 07 :
We’ll get to that in a moment. Yeah, she’s mean. That’s just the point. This is a mean young lady. The way she tears into Americans for voting for Trump. Hey, it’s one thing to lose. And you can even hate it because, you know, we all have the right to hate the outcome of an election. The election of Obama was, you know, a purgatory for me. OK, I get it. I totally get it. But you got to keep in mind you are representing the brand.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right. And well, let’s get back to Gal Gadot. Okay, once again, the whole idea is there is a new fairest of them all. There’s a new prettier one. And I’m sorry, but Gal Gadot is one of the most beautiful women in the world. Yeah.
SPEAKER 01 :
She’s up there.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, she’s well known as that. And don’t get me wrong, Rachel is a lovely young woman, but she’s also a mean young woman who probably starves puppies and makes them fight in a cage for food. I mean, this is a mean girl.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah, she seems super entitled and doesn’t seem to understand the scope of representing a brand like Disney. Right. If it was a smaller production company and she happened to get an interview and said something like that, okay, I think everyone would be alright. But… I mean, it’s not like she’s helping Disney’s stock. If anything, she’s diminishing it.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, let me ask you this. Don’t you think mean people just don’t look as good? I mean, it’s crazy watching a girl sing as a princess when she supports Hamas. I mean, I can only separate those two so much when I go watch the movie. And by the way, when I get my review of the movie, none of my political bias is going to enter into the score I give this movie, just so you know. But for me personally, do I want to go watch this girl? And by the way, she was in the worst movie of the year last year. Which one was that? Y2K. Okay, that was unbelievable. All of us were stranded. We were absolutely stranded in the theater for a couple hours, and Elon had to send a rocket to get us. It was the only way to have it because we were running out of oxygen. It was getting low. It was terrible. I think that… I think this is going to be a very interesting couple weeks for opening this film. Now, I did go last night, and I will say there were liberal parents everywhere.
SPEAKER 18 :
How old were the kids, you think, with them?
SPEAKER 07 :
You know, they range because you’ve got to keep in mind, because of Rachel Zegler, you don’t just have the little kids coming, and they do, but you also have the teenagers. A lot of teenage girls, no teenage boys.
SPEAKER 18 :
Probably a lot of different hair colors in there, too.
SPEAKER 07 :
There were a number of hair colors. I mean, it was just, you know, liberal parents all over. Mommy, I don’t want to shut up and smoke your weed. You know, I think I saw some Teslas burning outside. It was it was horrible. I I was in a sea of liberal. I had to really hunch down, stay safe. Exactly. It was… Nobody applauded anything. That’s good. Young and old alike, they just held signs up like a Trump speech.
SPEAKER 18 :
Good song. Just chanting, you know.
SPEAKER 07 :
Cute animals. Trump lies.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah, a couple phrases they threw out.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, they… We love dwarves. We love dwarves. Then they get angry again. It was… There was a lot of grumpy. I’m going to be reviewing Snow White in the next segment. Once again, my bias is not going to affect the score, but I will say this. I think. that it’s actually going to do semi-well. It was predicted originally to do over $100 million in the first week, which makes sense. Originally, way back when they were rolling it out. Okay, that dropped to $70. I mean, it dropped to $80, and then it dropped to $70. And now it’s dropped. The expectation is under $60. And some are even saying as low as $50. Now, I don’t know. I think the Tesla burners are probably going to, you know, get it up a little higher than that because they’re going to force their kids to go to this. And don’t get me wrong, and I’ll tell you right now in advance, kids won’t have a bad time. It’s a kid movie, okay? But… This is, I think, this is one of those movies that is going to start out at one level and drop very quickly because you have taken half the market in America and cut it out. Let me ask you one last thing because you were raised as a pretty conservative kid, weren’t you?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. What was it like? I mean, if your parents really didn’t want you to go to a movie because of the liberals in it, but you’re a kid and it’s a kid movie and you want to see it, What was it like? Did they let you go anyway? Did they bring you?
SPEAKER 18 :
I remember going to every movie we wanted to.
SPEAKER 1 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 18 :
Granted, the politics wasn’t as enhanced and rampant as it is now when I was growing up in the 2000s. Yeah, I mean, I didn’t even know actors and actresses were political until I became an adult. I was kind of, or my parents didn’t really talk about that too much, but obviously now. You can type in anyone’s name. The first thing that’s going to come up, they’re political parties.
SPEAKER 07 :
I know. I know. Well, I’ll tell you what. After the break, we’ll get into that. And by the way, I’m going to be talking about Rachel Zegler’s talent, which let me tell you something is immense, just so you know. All right? I’m good. That’ll be Snow White. It’s coming up next. SPEAKER 07 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, Andy Pate filling in for John Rush along with Tanner Cole. Man. That’s right. And Tanner, buddy, I got a question for you.
SPEAKER 18 :
What’s up? Are you ready for a movie? I’m ready for a movie.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, that’s so wimpy. Let’s do this once more time. I want you to reclaim your manhood.
SPEAKER 18 :
I’m taking it back from Rachel.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m going to give you a chance. Yeah. Are you ready for a movie? I’m ready for a movie. All right. Well, Tanner, no film of the past decade will benefit more from low expectations than Snow White.
SPEAKER 03 :
This was my father’s kingdom. A place of fairness. But the queen changed everything. Take him away. Your Majesty.
SPEAKER 04 :
What did you say?
SPEAKER 03 :
The people need some kindness.
SPEAKER 11 :
You know, I really don’t remember you being this… opinionated.
SPEAKER 01 :
Magic mirror on the wall. Who is the fairest of them all?
SPEAKER 11 :
Famed is thy beauty, Majesty. But the lovely maiden I now behold.
SPEAKER 01 :
I look at you, and I just want to be…
SPEAKER 11 :
The queen is evil. You must flee into the woods.
SPEAKER 03 :
My parents always said this forest was a magical place.
SPEAKER 1 :
Hello?
SPEAKER 03 :
Is there anybody here?
SPEAKER 1 :
Wait, wait.
SPEAKER 03 :
It’s a human. What did you think I was? Nothing. Ghost.
SPEAKER 06 :
You’ll be safe from the Queen here.
SPEAKER 03 :
The Queen stole everything from all of us. I’m gonna need your help. It’s time to restore our kingdom.
SPEAKER 07 :
Make our kingdom great again. What do you think?
SPEAKER 18 :
It looks like and sounds like it will bomb.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. Well, the embattled, much embattled Rachel Zegler stars as Snow White. But first, we see Snow as a child of royal parents born during a snowstorm. That’s where she gets her name. See, it used to be because her skin was white as snow, but now they use Rachel Zegler, so they say it’s because she was born during a snowstorm. Good thing she wasn’t born during a hurricane. Okay. I’m not sure how they would have named her. Right from the start, we see the message of this film is, well, collectivism. Everyone gets what they need because everyone shares what they have. The ideal kingdom. It’s kind of communism set to music. OK, then everyone, everything is happy. But then mom dies and dad marries Wonder Woman Gal Gadot. Evil mom isn’t down to, you know, she’s down, isn’t out with this whole to each according to their needs thing. She doesn’t go with that. So she oppresses the poor. Snow grows into a lovely young woman who helps the poor. As the magical mirror tells the evil queen, Snow White is now the fairest of them all. Get it? Fairest? Fairest? Yeah. So they do a double meaning on the word fair. Now, evil Wonder Woman sends a hunter to get Snow, but Snow is just too darn nice to kill. Her goodness gets her allies as she sings with a beautiful voice to CGI animals, CGI dwarves. Basically, if you’re not real, Snow White will sing to you. You’ve been warned. All right. Of course, the animals are incredibly adorable, delighting kids in the audience. Okay. Along the way, Snow meets a cute guy who leads the forest resistance against evil. Okay, I mean, it wasn’t Antifa-like, okay? They were a little better than that. But he leads them against evil Wonder Woman. His name is Jonathan, and he’s loyal to Snow’s parents. But evil Wonder Woman has a plan. Poison an apple. Get Snow to eat it. Will Snow White fall asleep forever? Will evil Wonder Woman rule with an iron fist? Will the kingdom ever return to the happy times of communism? We find out in Snow White. What do you think?
SPEAKER 18 :
It sounds like it would be a hoot if you were on some psychedelic or something.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I think maybe the writers were. Here we go. What works in Snow White? Well, as I’ve always said, Rachel Zegler is a spectacular talent with an incredible voice. She has one of the most beautiful voices of our generation.
SPEAKER 18 :
Should have put her in Wicked then.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. Well, I mean, Ariana Grande has a great voice, too. They’re very compatible. Just an amazing voice. Rachel Zegler even does a really good job mimicking Snow White’s original dance moves from the cartoon. And she is a performer. We’ll get to that more in a moment here. You have tons of cute animals, tons of them. They’re everywhere. My gosh, they’re coming out of the woodwork, literally. Kids love cute animals and nothing else will matter to children. You know that.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
So kids are going to have fun. Most of the downsides will have no effect on the core audience, which is kids. Okay, there’s great scenery with nice special effects. You expected that. Right. And there are some pretty good songs. Overall, a pretty good pace and a sweet story throughout most of the movie. So there you go. That’s what works in Snow White. What doesn’t work in Snow White? Well, first of all, the songs are solid, but only one is memorable, really. It needed more humor, which would have been easy with the dwarves. They’re funny characters. They could have done more with that. They could have made Snow a funny character who is more naive, much like Tangled. Remember, you see Tangled? They could have gone that way, but instead they made her a social crusader. And that kind of hurt the fun.
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, that’s what Rachel is, so… Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
And, you know, it wasn’t too much that way, but it leaned a little that way, and it just kind of hurt a little of the fun. We’ll get to it a little more here. It is preachy. There’s constant class warfare replacing equality of opportunity with equity of outcome. They redid Fairest, and I already mentioned that. It’s also pretty feminist. Even the love interest will never be king. Hmm. Yeah. You know, so there you go. Uh, the worst part of course, and everybody’s talking about it are the CGI dwarves. This is polar express level creepy. Okay. Uh, guys use live actors this is seven seven choice roles for dwarf actors it’s a role of a lifetime role of a lifetime and you could have had seven you know midget dwarf whatever uh actors who could have had these roles yeah little people and they could have had these roles and they would absolutely have loved them and they would have done and by the way a lot of them are fantastic actors
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah, and they’re upset that they didn’t get the roles offered.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. What a waste. All their talent, which is so immense. Here’s a biggie. Gal Gadot was poorly cast. Okay, very poorly cast. She’s too pretty, first of all. I’m sorry, but the fairest of them all is Gal Gadot. Okay, Rachel Zegler is a lovely young lady, but she’s no Gal Gadot.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay, Gal Gadot. She’s not a woman. Sorry, I’ve got to pronounce the T. She’s too pretty. And also, it’s a one-note performance, right? And what I mean is this, she’s pretty bland and just kind of, well, she’s performing evil.
SPEAKER 18 :
Gotcha.
SPEAKER 07 :
She’s also a very masked singer. She hits all the notes, but she doesn’t do anything special with them. She doesn’t have a great voice. All right. And really, for the villain in this movie, you could have gotten a lot of lovely actresses who have spectacular voices who could have done this role better than Gal Gadot. And here’s the biggest thing I really noticed. And I noticed it mostly from Zegler. And it really I didn’t understand there was something going through this movie and I was like, I’m not connecting with this. I’m not. Look, this isn’t bad. What I’m seeing on the film isn’t that bad, but I’m not connecting. Why is it that it hit me? They’re all performing. They’re not acting. OK, and here’s what I mean. I know it sounds the same, but it isn’t. When you are on a stage and I’ve done a lot of stage work when I was younger, I majored for a while in music theater and you are performing on a stage. You’re not doing the same as acting on screen where you have close ups constantly and you are you have to emote and grip the emotion out of a scene up there on a stage. You do everything in simple terms because people are a long ways away. Right. And they need to see big emotions. Right. And so you perform happy. You perform sadness. You perform anger. You perform this. You perform that. But when you’re in a movie and there’s close ups, you act. Anger. You emote anger. You emote happiness. You emote. Now, in case people are out there wondering, Andy, I don’t get it. Here’s what I mean. It came off fake.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right. And it came off like Gal Gadot was a woman performing evil.
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, she probably just got tired of hearing Rachel blab all the time.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, there might have been that because she supports evil. I mean, evil. Wow. She supports Israel. Right. And Rachel supports Hamas, which is wow. But anyway, Rachel Zegler is a spectacular performer. But she’s not much of an actress. And so when she’s on the big screen, you got the close ups. If you just she was doing the dancing around and and all that and performing the emotions. It was like she would change her facial expression to happiness, to sadness, to anger, to whatever. But she wasn’t emoting. I didn’t believe any of it. It was just like, I don’t believe any of what you’re doing here. You’re just you’re just performing. I’m not buying it. You’re not that good. You’re not conveying the real feelings of the character. Now, people might say, well, Andy, it’s a kid’s flick. It doesn’t matter. Yeah, but you know what? There are kid’s flicks where you have great acting.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. And the kids get really drawn in to the characters and they really care about the characters. You know who emoted the best? The CGI dwarves did the best. Yes. They emoted the best in this movie, even though it was really creepy and weird watching them. The villain felt like it was just a performer playing mean, not being mean. Does this make sense?
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah. It’s a fine line, but it makes sense.
SPEAKER 07 :
All of it felt skin deep. All of it felt fake.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
And it just didn’t really work. That’s why that’s why throughout the movie, you’re not feeling in danger, really. You’re not feeling anything’s really dangerous. You’re not feeling anything really matters. You’re not feeling invested in the characters. Why? Because they’re just characters. They’re not drawing you in at all. There are so many of these movies where you watch them, and they do. And you could do that with a fantasy movie. You could do that with The Princess Bride. You’re drawn in. You care about the characters. You love it, right? Not this. All right. And finally, adding the preaching just lengthens the movie. It was an hour and 49 minutes. It should have been an hour and 30 minutes. OK, and watching it bounce back and forth from teaching cute lessons about whistling while we work to overthrow overthrowing evil to preaching economic equity. I got whiplash going back and forth. I couldn’t track this thing.
SPEAKER 18 :
Economic equity in a kid’s movie is pretty funny.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, yeah, that was basically it. I mean, I didn’t really understand what they were doing with this movie. It was trying to do too much and not offend anybody because you could tell this thing has been re-edited and it has been re-shot twice, right? And you could tell they were trying to make everyone happy. And I don’t know. Look, the bottom line is this. They should have gotten simple. Just do the story.
SPEAKER 18 :
Do the exact same thing.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, do the story. Take out the modern equity things. Just act. Really act. Really be Snow White because I’m telling you what, Rachel Zegler is one of the greatest performers of our time. She is fantastic. She is an immense talent. Okay? Just a mean person.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right. We need some more Heath Ledger where she’s engaged in the role.
SPEAKER 07 :
There you go. Heath Ledger. He does. That’s a comic book character, the Joker. Were you drawn in?
SPEAKER 18 :
I mean, how could you not be?
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. Exactly.
SPEAKER 18 :
She’s one of the best characters in film history.
SPEAKER 07 :
Exactly. Let me tell you something. Gal Gadot was the anti-Heath Ledger in this. Okay? You’re not drawn in at all.
SPEAKER 18 :
Seems like she just wanted the paycheck to get out of there.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I mean, you could tell she was having fun, but yeah, that was it. Okay, Rotten Tomatoes gave this film 45%. They did not like this film, and you had some other stats. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 18 :
So the original Snow White, granted it was all a cartoon, was $1.5 million budget. You don’t hear anything like that nowadays, of course. Box office, in 1937, they got up to $418 million. Oh, my God. Right now, according to Wikipedia, the front Google page says $209 million was the budget for this movie. When you go into the Wikipedia page… That’s a lie.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s much higher.
SPEAKER 18 :
It says $250 to $270 budget.
SPEAKER 07 :
I would say their budget with marketing is well over a half billion.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yes. And at box office right now, they’re at $3.5 million. So they’ve got to do 100 times what they did last night.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, they’ve got to…
SPEAKER 18 :
That’s a tough road.
SPEAKER 07 :
They got to rock. I don’t see it. I don’t see it happening. I think they’re in trouble. But I got news for you. I didn’t think it was that bad of a movie. Okay? Well, it’s not deep. Do kids care about deep? No. No, not at all. Quality, I’m going to give this just right even. Two and a half stars. Okay? Why? Because I think it’s fine for the kids. I think kids are going to have fun with this movie. A little long, a little drawn out, and the kids aren’t going to be on the edge of their seats like they are on some really well-made kids’ Felix.
SPEAKER 01 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right? But… They’re going to have fun. The kids are going to have a good time. If you bring kids to this, they’re going to like it. And by the way, they mean more than you. OK, this movie is for them.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
But I don’t think you’re and you’re not going to have an awful time all the way throughout it. There are some good songs and some nice. And then, of course, there’s her incredible voice and just getting to listen to her sing. But even Jonathan, the guy, he comes off as just he’s performing his role. Nobody seems real. That matters to the adults. It’s going to be a little boring for the adults because you’re never drawn into the story. For the kids, it’s fine. Two and a half stars. Political two, obviously. Not bad, but I ding it a little bit. More religious three right down the middle. It’s fine. Do I recommend going to Snow White? Folks, I’m just going to say this. I don’t recommend not going to Snow White. All right. And I mean, if you just don’t want to support an actress like that, hey, I don’t blame you. I mean, I’ll be honest. I wouldn’t have gone if I didn’t have to. I am very offended by somebody hating all of Trump world. I’m in Trump world. Right. I don’t like actors and actresses hating me for who I am. But just looking at the film as what it is, it’s an average film. It’s not bad. It’s not as bad as some of the… I saw a lot of the viewer reviews were killing it.
SPEAKER 18 :
Oh, yeah. 18% Google users, 2.4 on IMDb.
SPEAKER 07 :
I think a lot of those are Trumpies. And I think a lot of Trump world is rushing in there and hammering this out of anger. But that’s the whole point. You don’t want to alienate half the market. That’s what they did. Do I recommend going? Folks, if you do go to Snow White, you’re not going to have that bad of a time. And your kids, I think, will have a pretty good time. So it’s not so bad. Sound good?
SPEAKER 18 :
Sounds good.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right. Up next is Veteran Windows and Doors. Shop around, but don’t sign anything until you’ve met with Dave from Veteran. They beat national retailers, and no one knows windows in our altitude like Dave. Call Veteran at 303-529-0720.
SPEAKER 09 :
Veteran Windows and Doors never uses sales reps who are only trained to close the deal. You will work with the owner, Dave Bancroft, and he knows windows are very prescriptive, meaning each home is unique in where it is in elevation and whether the windows face the sun or not. That’s why Dave makes sure you understand every value and rating for your windows so you don’t pay extra for windows that you don’t need. And every window manufacturer advises against using gas filled windows at or above 4000 feet. Other companies will say they have the highest quality and rated windows, yet they still use the wrong products like gas filled windows at the wrong elevations. Those windows will eventually fail. Don’t sign anything until you have met with Dave. Even if you have signed a contract with another company, it may not be too late if the windows don’t meet code or Energy Star criteria for Colorado. Veteran Windows and Doors will give you 40% off when buying five or more windows and free installation. Find them at klzradio.com today.

And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Denver’s Afternoon Rush. KLZ 560. Andy Pate filling in for John Rush along with Tanner Cole. Man. And Tanner.
SPEAKER 18 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
Are you ready for another movie?
SPEAKER 18 :
I’m ready for a movie.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay, Tanner. It’s a space movie. It’s a horror movie. It’s a space horror movie. Let’s watch Ash.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 1 :
What do you remember?
SPEAKER 10 :
Just moments. Images. When I woke up, there was no one left.
SPEAKER 1 :
What happened here?
SPEAKER 07 :
You know, Tanner, every morning when you wake up, you probably look around and say, what happened here?
SPEAKER 18 :
Last night, maybe, but…
SPEAKER 07 :
Last night, maybe. Okay, Isa Gonzalez. She stars as Raya, a woman who wakes up in space at an outpost far from Earth on a distant planet, and she doesn’t know how she got there. So she’s got amnesia. Now, worse yet, as she staggers around, she finds a bunch of people, her fellow crew, and they’re all dead. They’ve been brutally murdered. Now we have a mystery. Well, Raya isn’t alone for long, as a man named Brian, and he’s played by Aaron Paul, good actor, he arrives, and Raya instantly suspects him. But Brian insists she called for him. Now, together, they must solve the mystery. Not only must they figure out what happened, but also what comes next for them and mankind. There’s a lot at stake. Worse yet, they only have a few hours, Tanner, because they’re running out of oxygen, and they’ve got to make this narrow window for lifting off that’s coming up.
SPEAKER 18 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
You know, it’s the alignment with the planet and the ship that they got to above. And so they’re under the gun. And along the way, Raya keeps having little flashbacks, offering clues as we see the crew living on base in happier times. Then she envisions their horrifying deaths. But why? Ultimately, Raya and Brian must decide who done it and what other forces are at work. That’s the story of Ash. What do you think?
SPEAKER 18 :
I’ll see that over Snow White any day of the week.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, you probably will. First of all, you will see it over Snow White because of Isaac Gonzalez. OK, what works in Ash? Well, first of all, Isaac Gonzalez is stunning. This is a I’ll just say it. It’s a 10 out of 10. OK. And if there is ever an underworld remake, cast her. She also does a fine job capturing the total confusion of amnesia and the horror of revelations. But I tell you what. The director really likes the looks of Raya Gonzalez because we see her from every conceivable angle you can possibly imagine.
SPEAKER 18 :
The director’s in the movie. Well, okay then. Flying Lotus, whoever that is.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, Flying Lotus actually does music and directed the movie and plays a small role, I guess.
SPEAKER 18 :
It’s interesting.
SPEAKER 07 :
Apparently, you know, look, I know she’s pretty, but so many close-ups. It’s like, okay, we get it. Let’s see. The look of the film is classic space scary with lots of blue and red lighting. I like that. This is a classic mood movie, a lot like Alien or Event Horizon. So that’s pretty cool. Aaron Paul does a good job as Brian. He sees the mystery, but he also understands the urgency of getting off the planet. Right. Also, there are some good special effects on a low budget. That’s good because you can tell this was not made on a big budget. Had you even heard of this movie? No.
SPEAKER 18 :
Right. I can’t even find the budget.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right. Well, if this film were better marketed, it would probably make a good amount of money. The flashbacks, they offer shock value, waking us up before we enter too much of a dream state because it’s kind of a dreamy movie. There are plenty of plot twists keeping the mystery alive, and it’s only 95 minutes, just over an hour and a half, so not a long haul. The last third of the movie has lots of action and answers. Very intense, good stuff. Very entertaining. All right. What doesn’t work in Ash? Well, the first third is interesting, and the final third is good, but the middle is slow and confusing. OK, after a while, you don’t want to wait until the last third to finally start having some revelations. I know you’re doing a whodunit here, but you’ve got to give us a better feel of what’s happening.
SPEAKER 18 :
You want some answers or clues throughout. You know, maybe someone says something and someone looks a little sly. I mean, it could be anything, but you want to at least be engaged, having a whole 30 minutes of not knowing anything. You got to wait till the end.
SPEAKER 07 :
Exactly. Well, let me quote Dr. Evil. Throw me a boon here. Give me something to go on during the movie because in that middle third, they’re basically just wandering around not learning anything. Now, this might have worked better just playing out the story from the beginning rather than having Raya work out a mystery through flashbacks after she wakes up with amnesia. Maybe they should have just done like Alien and go right from the start. and play it out. Beyond the two main characters, the others are poorly developed in the flashbacks. There’s not really much to get into there. This needed a better script. Not enough good one-liners. They really could have used some, and I don’t just mean humor. I mean, the dialogue just felt plain. It really did. For the most part, this is an artsy sci-fi horror that just plods along until the last third. We see Isaac Gonzalez once again from every angle for hottie value, but that’s because so little is happening. I think they were substituting shock and various angles of looking at Isaac Gonzalez instead of entertainment.
SPEAKER 18 :
I mean, that’s what you get from a music producer, whatever his job is.
SPEAKER 07 :
Right, exactly. The real monsters, and there are monsters, and special effects all come near the end due to a low budget. And I have seen, you know, I’ve watched over 100 movies a year, right? So I’ve seen a lot of these movies, and you can always tell when you have a sci-fi horror film, and when you just see a little piece of the monster here, a little piece there, and you don’t get to see the monster toward the end, what does that tell you? Low budget, right?
SPEAKER 18 :
uh the money ai google says a production budget was 205 million which i don’t know how that’s possible
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s got to – no.
SPEAKER 18 :
Maybe that’s included in terms of marketing as well or something.
SPEAKER 07 :
I mean, I will say this. The monsters that they have and how they do it is very well done and very realistic looking and good. Problem is the story didn’t keep us involved until the end. And then they replaced the story with Isa in tight outfits. So, you know, there you go. Guys, I guess you could just get a calendar with Isa. Yeah. All right. And the calendar would move faster. OK. Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie 74 percent. That’s too rich for my blood. I think that they’re basically going too high on it because it’s got a real artistic quality to it. And it’s got the mystery that unfolds. Guys, a mystery has to unfold at a certain pace. Otherwise, it loses the audience. I could tell this was losing the audience in there. They were lost. OK, not good enough quality. Two stars. Political three, more religious three. It doesn’t say a thing, which is kind of nice. Right. Do I recommend going to Ash? I don’t. Once again, this is like Snow White. I don’t recommend not going to Ash. If you want this kind of a movie, kind of an alien movie. kind of a movie, combined with a mystery throughout, why not? And Isaac Gonzalez, by the way, is a good actress. I enjoy her. I think she does a fine job. It’s just, you know, this is not a great movie. It’s not 74%. I don’t know why it got that high of reviews. It didn’t deserve it. So if you want that kind of a movie because there’s nothing else like it out at this time of year, go see Ash.
SPEAKER 18 :
Why not? Well, and maybe you don’t have kids or grandchildren, so this might be the only movie that might grab your attention.
SPEAKER 07 :

SPEAKER 04 :
Man.
SPEAKER 07 :
And let’s listen really quick here to somebody did a spoof of the witch handing an apple to Snow White, to Rachel Zegler as Snow White. Here we go.
SPEAKER 10 :
This is no ordinary apple, my dear. It’s a magic wishing apple. A wishing apple? Yes, one bite and all your dreams will come true. You offer it to me freely. In place of the patriarchy, you would have a queen! Not white, but diverse, inclusive, and equitable! I will become the leader I know I can be! All shall love me and despair!
SPEAKER 07 :
What do you think? That was great. She’s just so mean. Everybody’s having so much fun with how mean she is. I know that you got to figure at some point, Rachel Zegler is going to go on a tour, an image repair tour, right?
SPEAKER 18 :
Yeah. I mean, you have to.
SPEAKER 07 :
We’re going to see how she feeds the poor. My question is to whom?
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, I’m pretty sure she’s still been spouting off on Instagram. It has something to do with the border I think she was talking about the other day. I was just like, have you not realized that you can’t alienate half the country?
SPEAKER 07 :
A lot of people are having fun with the dwarves singing hi-ho. You know what I mean? It’s just funny. It’s just awful. I don’t know. I have not seen somebody crush a movie in advance like this in a long time. The movie should have done very well.
SPEAKER 18 :
It should have done as well as the first one, $400 million box office, if she just kept her mouth shut.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, well, yeah. I mean, and from what I’ve heard, they say with total budget, because they say the budget overruns are not being reported accurately. And this has now happened on a few recent movies where the budget overruns were not reported accurately. But what we’re hearing is they need to make around $800 for this. Oh, my gosh. To break even. I don’t know if it’s actually that high, but that’s what I’ve heard.
SPEAKER 18 :
You would think Disney’s… I’m sure they have a hundred movies at this point. Because they just make up these stories at this point. You would think they’d know how to run a… production set and know how to limit cost to some degree, but it’s shocking what they’ve done and what she’s done. I mean, could you imagine if she was a guy saying this, though?
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, my gosh. It would be even worse. Could you imagine if she was a Trump supporter saying this about the other side? Oh, my gosh.
SPEAKER 18 :
Even if a little person, one of the dwarves, was a dude saying this on the other side, it would have been trashed even more.
SPEAKER 07 :
look what the other side does when our side gets angry we i don’t know we get angry when their side gets angry they burn teslas they shoot people cities they try to assassinate trump they do a lot of really violent things let me ask you this really quick here we got a minute uh the people who are burning teslas and doing this stuff what do you think should happen to them
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, I’ll be seeing a lot of them at Civic Lawn today right outside the Capitol because AOC and Bernie Sanders will be there. And I can’t wait to go there with my air horn. But, I mean, they should be punished as anyone else is. I mean, it’s… This is domestic terrorism. What they’re doing to the Teslas… This is political terrorism. …is crazy because some of the paint these people can’t get off. I mean… It’s destruction of property. You should have to pay the full fine or go to jail for a little.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, I think they’ve got to pay the full fine. Here’s my opinion.
SPEAKER 18 :
Mental health class.
SPEAKER 07 :
These. Well, my opinion is these are domestic terrorists because they are. First of all, this is organized. This is an organized movement that they are doing and they are doing it for political reasons. OK, I believe five years minimum in a in federal prison. And I’d like to see each one of them get at least a decade. I’m serious. I’m serious. Their lives should be ruined forever for what they’re doing. Not because they’re doing it to my side. I would say exactly the same if Trump supporters did it to the other side. I don’t care what they’re doing. Got to throw the book at them. Sound good? Sounds good. All right. Hey, folks, that’s it for our number one. And our two, Richard Rush is going to join us for our movie topic, which is fairy tales and fantasies. Fairy tales and fantasies. So get yours ready.
