This is Rush To Reason.
You are gonna shut your damn yamper and listen for a change, because I got you begged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only view to blood.
Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it.
There are no magical fixes.
With your host, John Rush.
My advice to you is to do what your parents did.
Get a job first.
You haven’t made everybody equal.
You’ve made them the same and there’s a big difference.
Let me tell you why you’re here.
You’re here because you know something. What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it.
You felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world.
You don’t know what it is, but it’s there.
It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
Are you crazy?
Am I, or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
It’s Rush To Reason, with your host, John Rush. Presented by Hi5 Plumbing, Heating and Cooling, where every call ends with a high five.
I am Hans. And I am Franz, and we just want to pop you off.
Welcome to Health and Wellness Wednesdays on Rush To Reason.
Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through lifestyle.
I have what doctors call a little bit of a weight problem. I used to grab bear claws as a kid, two at a time, and I’d get them lodged right in this region here.
Exorcist gives you endorphins.
Endorphins make you happy.
Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands.
Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.
But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
I’m sorry that I’m fat.
And welcome, Health and Wellness Wednesday, Rush To Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, Klz560, beautiful Wednesday outside. Michael Bailey hanging around after his program to be with us for a few minutes. So Michael, welcome.
Thank you.
As always, appreciate you hanging out and being with us. Okay, I know times are tough for a lot of people. Folks are always looking for ways to save money, which I fully understand, especially now given inflation and the economic times and so on.
Sure.
I also know there’s this thing called the internet, where you can go and do all sorts of searching around and get all sorts of answers, which by the way, may be right or may not be right depending upon what somebody’s actually looking. And by the way, that applies to all sorts of things from how to fix your car to how to do your estate planning.
Right.
And the reality is, I know firsthand even on the car fixing side of things, that just because the internet says to do XYZ doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the right answer for you at that time. And I’m assuming estate planning is very much the same way.
Yes, it is. I mean, on the internet, people will call me like, oh, what about the internet? What do you think of those?
I’m like, I don’t really have an opinion on them because I don’t look at them. I don’t care. Many sites I’m sure are perfectly fine.
Some of them I read and I’m like, so is it really that hard to use the proper terminology for Colorado if you’re gonna do a Colorado based thing?
Okay.
I mean, it’s just, there’s a certain things there. And you know, I think about I replaced the outdoor lights on outside my garage and I watched YouTube on how to do it. And of course, it took him like 10 minutes.
And it’s very possible that it was clipped and you know, all of those types of things.
Or he’s just really fast and did it in 10 minutes.
Right. So I figured-
He has that skill set maybe.
Yeah. So I figured that I would, my dad has what he calls the rule of pie, where if you take how long you think it’ll take you to do it, you multiply it by pie and that’s how long it will actually take you.
That’s about right, usually.
So I’m like, well, it took him 10 minutes. That’ll probably take me-
30.
30 and multiply it by three. So it should take an hour and a half. So four hours later when I finished, you know, and even then I had to go next door.
I’m laughing with you, not at you.
No, no, no, it’s just- everybody, anybody who’s trying to do home repair has probably had this experience. And so, you know, I mean, that’s, and that’s just replacing things.
You know, they’re like, oh, well, make sure you shut this off. I’m like, I waited till nobody was home so I could turn the electricity off. So I didn’t electrocute myself.
Yeah, that’s mechanical things, not taking into consideration the legal aspect of things. And what happens when you actually go to probate and when you’ve got other eyes looking at things. I mean, no offense, you and your porch light, you’re the only one looking at it.
Yeah, and I’m really the only one that cares.
And you’re the only one that cares, exactly.
If it doesn’t turn on, I know my house, I can walk past the garage and go throw the trash away and come back in, it’s not a thing.
The difference is on the other end of the spectrum, well, I shouldn’t say everybody, but there’s lots of eyes looking at it at that point.
Right. Well, so you could do a will, and then it’s going to go to the court, it’s going to go to the bank, it’s going to go to the investment companies. And so all of them are going to be looking at it going, well, gee, does this work for us?
And we’re like, yes, we want it to work for you. And so that’s part of why, there’s no one right way, there’s no one everything way.
And the reason for that, I’m guessing Michael, is because not everyone has the exact same set of circumstances, right?
Right. And not everybody, and not everything would work for the one set of circumstances. I had a potential client who asked me the other day if I could just sit down with them and their family and just go through the, just go through the forms with them so they could fill them out.
And I was like, what forms are we talking about?
There aren’t any.
Well, they found some forms at Office Depot.
Oh, oh, oh, okay.
You know, the giant law firm Office Depot? That you hear about all the time that’s arguing cases in front of the Supreme Court.
Sure. Gotcha. Okay.
That law firm that doesn’t exist, an office supply store.
That one.
Yeah. I’m like, yeah, that’s not what I do. But it’s just filling out a form.
It would, I mean, it actually would take you longer to do that than to actually go and listen to what they’re actually needs are. And then you customize it to what they actually need because you’ve got a lot of those things already dialed in where no offense, Office Depot doesn’t.
Right. And so we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel here.
No, you’re just taking the wheel for them, right?
Let’s make the rules work for you. And, you know, the Internet is great, except for the Internet doesn’t know everything. And if you ask 10 different websites, you’re probably going to get 10 different answers, which isn’t good when you’re looking for what’s the correct answer.
And as I said a moment ago, and I know some of this firsthand, everybody’s circumstance is different. You may think, oh, I’ve got, you know, I don’t have any, I hear stuff like this all the time from people. You know, Mike, oh, I don’t have much.
Sure.
Really?
And I’m like, do you own a house? Well, yeah. You got something.
Do you have kids?
Yes. Oh, even more important.
Do you have a garage full of stuff? Do you have a house full of stuff? Do you own some other assets?
Do you maybe have another property someplace? Do you maybe have some cars that are, by the way, don’t even have to be paid off, but do you own cars and the like, and do you have some debt? And on down the line we go, right?
Right, and people may not want your stuff. I mean, that happens a lot. When people die, they’re like, everybody’s like, oh, well, I want to give my grandfather clock to this person.
I’m like, does that person have room in their house or their decor that would, a grandfather clock would make sense?
Well, what I’ve learned is there’s that old saying, you know, Michael, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. Well, this is the opposite. One man’s treasure is someone else’s junk.
Right, and so, you know, all the things that you think you’re going to give away and people are going to be so excited to have them, you know, we got a box of stuff when my wife’s grandmother died, and we took some pictures with the kids with the costume jewelry on, so that we had proof that we had gotten it, and could send it to people, and then we threw it away, because we didn’t need more stuff in our house.
Exactly. All right, so those of you listening, please, yeah, don’t go to the internet, don’t do that yourself, talk to Michael instead, he can help you through all of this process, he’ll tweak it to you specifically, not tweak it, he’ll make it for you specifically, is the way that works, and I’ll just throw an attaboy in there for Michael, it’s not as expensive as you think. Call him first and he’ll walk you through all of that, that’s the best way to do it.
How do they do that, Michael?

Water quality, a big deal as well. Hi-fi plumbing is up next. Make sure that if you need anything when it comes to that, even a free water inspection, talk to them today, 877-WE-HI-5.
Hi-fi plumbing is your source for water filtration systems to keep your family healthy. And now is the perfect time to install one. Whole home water filtration can help with overall health, skin care, hair care, and it can drastically improve the taste of your water.
A filter on your faucet will only help the one fixture and can’t handle the total volume of water your family consumes. A whole home filtration system ensures that your entire family will consume less metals, excessive fluoride, chlorine, among other things, and leaves you healthier. With the holidays coming up, you don’t have to break the bank.
Hi-Fi uses green sky financing, allowing you 18 months interest free on your purchase and special financing for big projects. Find out more about Hi-Fi plumbing, heating and cooling, or questions about your water filtration on the klzradio.com advertisers page.

All right, we are back. Health and Wellness Wednesday. Thank you for listening today.
By all means, we appreciate it. Dr. Mary anderson joining us now. There’s a new book out that she’s the author of, The Happy High Achiever, Eight Essentials to Overcome Anxiety, Manage Stress and Energize Yourself for Success Without Losing Your Edge.
Welcome, Dr. Mary anderson.
Thank you so much, John, for having me here. I’m excited to talk with you. And hello to all the listeners out there.
Well, we appreciate it very much. And you’re going to talk about a topic that I know a little bit about because suffer is not the right word. But, you know, I was one of those overactive children.
And my folks, I’m sure, wondered what in the world are we going to do with this kid because he’s just always doing something. So when it comes to ADHD, I think I can fairly well relate to a lot of things that folks go through that have that.
Yes, absolutely. I work with a lot of patients who actually have both ADHD and anxiety. So I work with high achievers.
I named my book The Happy High Achiever. So I work with a lot of high achieving professionals. So doctors, lawyers, business professionals, grad students, also law students.
And they’re struggling with stress and anxiety. And often that’s because they’re also dealing with ADHD. So what we know actually is about 50% of adults with ADHD also suffer or struggle with an anxiety disorder.
So often I’m working with both. And whether or not they have an anxiety disorder, just patients who are high achievers with ADHD often have a lot of stress because they’re issues with time management, restlessness. So that kind of hyperactivity, inattention, disorganization can lead to stress, right?
So they’re high achievers and they’re ambitious and hard working. And then if there’s time management issues, like they’re chronically running late or forgetting about appointment, that’s going to add to their stress, right? So I work on both behaviors and cognitions with patients.
So the approach I use is cognitive behavioral therapy. It’s an empirically supported treatment for anxiety and depression. And then CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, focuses both on thoughts, so like self-talk and behaviors, so self-care.
So I work on things like implementing self-care, implementing strategies that may seem simple, but that can be really powerful in their impact. So things like using a planner and a calendar for people with ADHD can help reduce stress.
Absolutely. And some people at times make fun of me because I live and die by my calendar. I wear a lot of different hats.
I do things even outside of what I do here on air. And of course, I have lots of different guests that we interview and things that we do for three hours a day that I’m on air and I do another four hours on Saturday. Don’t ask me why, but I do.
Anyways, I do a lot of things radio-wise, plus I coach other businesses and own my own business on top of all of that. So yeah, I’ve got a lot of things going on and I have learned through the years, Dr. anderson, that what you just said and I try to teach even my clients that I coach this, whether they have this type of a problem or not, the reality is you have to keep yourself super organized. If you’re going to achieve more in life, you have to know what you’re doing when you’re doing it.
And I’m not saying you can’t ever vary from that because things happen and sometimes you need to move things around. But if you don’t have the basics of what you’re doing each day, I personally, Dr. anderson, couldn’t function.
Absolutely, that’s brilliant, John, that you use a calendar. And I really encourage people, keep it simple. Have your calendar be something that you’re using all the time to make it easy to use, not something where it’s on your computer inside a program.
Then you have to click into another thing and click into another thing. I found when patients, especially with ADHD, had really complicated organization systems, those just didn’t end up working well. We kept it simple, used that same planner or that same calendar, and really that will help keep them organized.
And that’s a major part of stress management when I’m working with high achievers, which it sounds like definitely you. Your schedule is overextended.
It’s funny that you say what you said a moment ago because I’m fairly technical as well. I mean, I grew up in, I’ll be 60 here in the not-too-distant future, so I grew up in a time where you really had to learn all of the technical stuff business-wise, otherwise you’d really get behind some sort of a techie. And I love that end of things.
And a couple of my boys, it’s kind of our hobby as well. And what I learned is, and I’m not trying to downplay anybody that uses this particular product as to each his own, but I’m not an Outlook user, Dr. anderson. I’m a Mac guy.
I use just the regular standard Mac calendar. It’s very, to your point, simple, easy to use. I’m not jumping around a bunch of things.
And I know there’s a lot of folks that love Outlook and Microsoft and so on, but I find it personally, just to be almost too cumbersome to the point where it’s like, I don’t need all of that extra fluff. I just need the basics. And I’m the type, Dr. anderson, where I will even put things in there, like, you know, in the calendar, like, you know, review such and such.
Or in other words, I don’t use a to do list. I use a calendar. Does that make sense?
Brilliant. Yes, I do that same thing as well. And it really keeps me on track.
I think I think that’s fantastic. And yes, I’m very practical. Use what works for you.
If you found a system that works for you, keep on using it. That is brilliant. Yes.
Well, thank you for that. Okay, so getting back to, and again, not everybody has ADHD, I get that, but people have anxiety. We live in a day and age where stress is at an all time high.
People do want to be successful. They don’t want to lose that edge. So what are some tips outside of what you just gave us on, you know, the calendaring end of things?
What do people do to achieve success and overcome that anxiety?
Okay, fantastic question. I think something that’s so important, so for people with ADHD and if people out there don’t have ADHD, but like you said, and you are so on mark, you’re so on the money on this one, is everyone is so overextended, so stressed out. I just feel like people’s bandwidth, they’re just maxed out right now.
So what we gotta make sure we do is that we prioritize self care. And when I talk about self care, I always like to debunk the myth. I’m not talking about two hour long bubble baths and week long meditation or treats.
Those are great if you have time, but just from listening to what your schedule sounds like and most of the high achievers and patients I’m working with, they don’t have time for that. So what I came up with actually is this acronym, SELF, S-E-L-F, for self care, that helps people streamline and prioritize the four self care fundamentals that are science backed, so it gives you the most bang for your buck. So if you want, I can run through it quickly.
No, I’m writing them out. I’m gonna write it out and then I’ll type it into my notes and it’ll be up on our website later as well.
Ah, great. Okay, awesome. And these are all doable.
We can make time for them because again, we’re gonna prioritize S-E-L-F. So S is for sleep. And we want to aim for at least seven hours a night, right?
So aim for at least seven hours a night. And that’s important because what we know from research is chronic lack of sleep can really negatively impact our memory, attention, concentration. So again, that’s really important for people with ADHD.
And even if people don’t have ADHD, it really helps to prioritize sleep because what we know again from research is when we get good night’s sleep, we have enhanced productivity, we have enhanced problem-solving skills, mood and better relationship outcomes. So sleep, aim for at least seven hours a night. L, so we’re going to go to S and then E.
E is for exercise. So the E of self-care is for exercise. And we want to aim for at least 30 minutes or more most days of the week.
And for this one, John, I really, really encourage people walking is great. Walking is so beneficial. And I think sometimes, especially as high achievers, we can vastly underestimate the importance of walking.
And sometimes my high achieving patients will be like, but Dr. A, I have to do high intensity workouts every day. And so they discount the benefit of walking. But really, to keep exercise doable, we have to implement something like just walking, even if it’s five minutes here, five minutes there.
That’s what I do when I see patients, I see patients for 55 minute sessions. And I know for those five minutes in between sessions, especially if I have a day that’s back to back booked with patients, I’m getting up, John, every time in between sessions and walking for those five minutes because I know it’s so important. So E is for exercise, 30 minutes or more, most days of the week.
Again, exercise as walking is fantastic for people. L is to look forward. And this one is one that sometimes people haven’t really heard of, but the importance of having at least one pleasant activity to look forward to every week.
And why that’s important is because we know that the anticipation of something positive is powerful. It actually gives us this great powerful mood boost, right? So just like when we know we have vacation coming up in two weeks, just thinking about it, right?
Haven’t we all had that moment of like, oh, Hawaii is going to be beautiful. So we’re not even in Hawaii, but we can like feel the warm sand, but already we can see the blue skies. We get excited just thinking about it.
And the cool thing is they’ve actually shown in research, the area in our brain that lights up when we’re engaging in a reward activity is the same area in our brain that lights up when we’re just anticipating. So when we’re just thinking about the pleasant reward activity, that’s awesome, right? So it’s kind of double bang for our buck when we’re in Hawaii, we’ll obviously be enjoying it, but just thinking about it, having something to look forward to gives us that powerful mood boost.
The important note on that one, the pro tip is keep it doable. Can we plan vacations all the time? No, we can’t be going to Hawaii every week.
But what we can do is plan something like a meet up with a friend once a week, or we can book a massage, or have a concert to look forward to, or something really simple like, I’m going to get takeout on Thursday night after a long day.
Absolutely.
Or I’m going to watch a TV show. So keep it doable. That’s the big thing I would say, keep self-care doable, so we keep doing it.
And then the last one of the SELF for self-care is fuel. And this one, I think we really know we got to keep ourselves hydrated and fed well, so nutrition and hydration to really fuel our brain and body. And I think we all know, right, that feeling of being hangry when we haven’t eaten in a while, is it going to be easy to pay attention and concentrate?
No way, right? So sometimes when I’m talking to students, college students, grad students, law students, and I’ll say, how long are you in the library for and not eating? And sometimes, John, they’re going like five, six hours without eating.
And I’m thinking, how are you expecting yourself to concentrate at full 100 percent capacity, you just won’t be able to. So that’s honestly, sometimes an easy fix is just making sure they pack a healthy snack. So fruits, veggies, lean protein, so nuts, protein bars, whatever, having things with them.
So that’s the SELF. And for fuel, also what I will say for fuel, not only nutrition and hydration, but to fuel your mind with some quiet every day. Absolutely.
Think about how plugged in we are, right? And just listening to your schedule, you are a man on the go, it sounds like. So making sure, even if it’s literally a minute or two each day of deep breathing, or journaling, meditating, I use the Calm app every morning.
That’s something I do. It’s a seven-minute daily J with Jay Shetty, and I just look forward to it every morning. And at night, I do a gratitude journal, right?
Before Bed, which is a fantastic way to slide off to sleep. So SELF, sleep, exercise, look forward and fuel. Those are the four self-care fundamentals that you’re going to get the best thing for your back, the best ROI to prioritize.
Because there’s so many self-care activities out there, but we got to streamline it.
We got to keep it doable for ourselves.
Every single thing you wrote on there or that you talked about that I wrote down spot on, I actually, I didn’t know all of these because I haven’t read your book yet, but I do each and every one of those. It’s why I believe really fully in this Health and Wellness Wednesday that we do. We do this for an hour every Wednesday.
I’ve been doing this for, I don’t know, Dr. anderson, probably the last eight, nine years or so. We’ve been doing it for a very long time. It’s important to me because I really feel like everything you just said, not only for high achievers, but just people in general, our health is critical.
We only get one shot at it. Life is precious, life is short, life is fragile, and we got to make sure we’re taking care of things on a daily basis. And when we do, by the way, all of the other things you talked about just get added in automatically anyways.
Yes, absolutely. It’s just so important for all of us to be prioritizing, taking good care of ourselves. That’s what I mean by self-care.
It’s just taking good care of yourself on a regular basis and making time for that because we deserve that and we know when we’re feeling healthier and happier, they’ve shown from abundant research, when people are feeling happier, John, that actually fuels success. When we’re feeling happier, we’re more productive, resilient, creative, we collaborate better with people. Absolutely.
For our short-term and long-term success and wellness, we’ve got to prioritize our health and well-being.
Well, I’ve learned a lot. I appreciate you being with me. I will get the book.
Well, as you know, we speak very much the same language. I would love to have you back in the future. This is awesome.
Dr. Mary anderson. Again, for those of you listening, the Happy High Achiever, Eight Essentials to Overcome Anxiety, Manage Stress, Encourage Yourself for Success without Losing Your Edge. And I’m assuming, Dr. anderson, Amazon, where all good books are sold is where you buy it?

All right, and I have a correction on that last website because I did go look it up so that we’d have the right things in my show notes for Dr. Mary anderson. And it is maryandersonphd.com, maryandersonersonphd.com.
We’ll have that link up in our show notes a little bit later, along with the keys to success. And I was telling Charlie during the break that when I was a kid, because a lot of what she talked about, I’ve had to self learn. I’ve never had anybody teach me some of the things.
I mean, I’ve had different individuals in my life that have taught me different things, even calendaring and so on and so forth. And my wife actually at that time really helped me a lot when it came to the whole calendaring end of things. And I learned so much along those lines, and I’m very thankful for it.
But a lot of that stuff I had to learn on my own. So in this case, go buy the book if you’ve got somebody that you know, especially even a youngster, I would encourage you get the book and have them go through that. Troy Duell joining us now.
Troy, welcome back. How are you? Good, John.
How are you, man? I’m great. Always a joy having you.
Centurion Labs is where Troy is from. For all of you that maybe have heard Troy in the past and kind of forget at times who he’s with and where he’s from. Troy, last week I did talk about National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
I had a special guest that was going to join us that couldn’t make it, so I sort of ad libbed and did that myself. But I am by no means any expert. So talk to us about Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
It is a big thing, obviously, out there and one of those silent killers that most men don’t pay attention to. And unfortunately, as men, we don’t like to go to the doctor. But the beauty of prostate cancer is the sooner you get a diagnosis and the sooner you go to a doctor, the better off you’re going to be long term.
We know that prognosis, if you get prostate cancer and they catch it early, there is a high, high probability that they can do something about it.
Right.
Nothing will happen to you.
Right.
And it starts by really understanding what those symptoms are and kind of understanding what the warning signs are. First, you need to know what your age is. If you’re under the age of 40, you have a 1 in 40,000 chance of getting prostate cancer.
So it’s pretty rare.
Right.
Once you get between the ages of 40 and 59, it jumps to 1 in 38. And then above age 60, it’s 1 in 15. Wow.
We just need to understand that as we get older, unfortunately, that can be something that we need to watch for. And as we’re older, understanding that if you’ve had a brother have prostate cancer or your father have prostate cancer, you are twice as likely to develop prostate cancer yourself.
So it’s very genetic in that regard, is what you’re saying.
Totally genetic. So certainly keep a close eye out on it if you’ve had some family member contract prostate cancer. And then the other things, just the symptoms of it itself, the, I call it the three F’s and a B.
So the first F is frequency. If you’re starting to urinate more often, having to get up in the middle of the night to pee, do those kinds of things, that can be a warning sign that something’s happening with your prostate. The second one is flow.
So if you’ve got that weak or slow flow, and you have difficulty starting to go to the bathroom, or you have dribbling when you’re done, that can also be a sign that something’s happening with your prostate. The third F is feeling. So if you have pain when you’re urinating, or you have pain during intimacy, that can be a sign.
Then the final is the B, which is blood. So if you have blood when you’re urinating, then you need to go to a doctor right away. None of them in and of themselves mean that you have prostate cancer, but it’s a good sign that something’s happening with your prostate.
It could just be some urinary tract infection. It could be some other bacterial infection, but you need to go to the doctor and get it checked out.
So these are things that, to your point, shouldn’t scare anybody, but on the same token, if you’ve got these things going on, and it, of course, continues. And really, like you said, Troy, we men don’t go to the doctor near as much as we should. So in this particular case especially, and I’ve interviewed folks in the past, by the way, almost, I would almost say annually when it comes to prostate cancer, Troy, because the reality is for men, it’s a big deal.
And to your point, the sooner you catch it, the less of an issue you’re going to have. And in some cases have really no issues when it’s all said and done. But you need to know what those warning signs are and get in and get checked.
Now I would also say, Troy, and I was going to ask you this, is this something also that when we reach a certain age, and I don’t know what that magic number is, and maybe that has to do with some of the hereditary things you just mentioned, but should we be getting an annual exam as well?
They do recommend that, especially if you’ve got family history. So if you have family history of prostate cancer, it depends, but they’ve, and they’ve been moving those numbers anywhere from the age of 40 to 50, so they’re starting to wiggle a little bit on some of that, and some of it’s because the PSA tests have been less than accurate in some of the ways that they’ve been doing it. So even if you’ve got a high PSA test, don’t necessarily freak out.
Just take a deep breath and get another check, because they have had a lot of false positives with some of those as well. But I would say if you’ve got a family history, you probably need to start looking at going to your doctor and getting checked, starting H4045, somewhere around there.
Good to know. All right. Also in my notes, there’s things that we should also be careful of when it comes to what we consume.
Talk about some of those.
Yeah, this is where some of the bad news comes in. So A, we should have always been listening to mom, because mom was right. When she said, eat your vegetables and eat your fruits and veggies, she was dead on because we know that if you do that correctly and you eat right, your chances of prostate cancer start to diminish.
But the downside is, we also need to drink less beer. And as men, that can be a difficult thing because they have tied the yeast and hops to really being an irritant to your prostate. And they want to make sure that you’re not drinking as much beer because it won’t irritate your prostate as much.
And the same goes for really any alcohol, but you want to avoid alcohol, greasy foods, do it in moderation, and you should be good. And if you’re really starting to have some issues in your prostate, they even suggest avoiding tea and coffee because the caffeine obviously will start to irritate the prostate a little bit more.
I also noticed in my notes, too, that you said this a moment ago, the oily foods, they can be inerrant as well, which again, I’ll just give you kudos, Troy. Some of these foods, and I’ve interviewed a lot of folks when it comes to this particular topic over the years. This is the first I’m hearing of some of these, including the don’t drink beer end of things.
And I know for a lot of guys, that’s a, to your point earlier, that’s a big deal for a lot of men. Not one of those, fortunately, but a lot of men, you know, they have to have one when they get home at night. It’s sort of their release, or it’s their comfort, I guess you could say, Troy.
So what you’re saying is, especially if you’re prone for this, don’t.
Yeah, or at least be aware that if you’re doing that, it could be irritating your prostate. And you may want to cut back and just be more cognizant of what you’re taking into your body, because what you take in definitely affects your prostate.
Absolutely, yeah, that whole, you know, just like a computer, garbage in, garbage out, right? You got it, you got it. All right, talk to us about supplements.
That’s a big deal for you guys at Centurion Labs. And talk to us about the supplement end of things as well, because I firmly believe there’s things that we can do to help with the lack of, in some cases, nutrition we’re getting out of our food. You and I have talked about that in the past.
So what do we do on the supplement side?
That is a great question. I think that’s the second main piece that Mom had right. She said fruits and veggies.
And the third one, or second one, is take your vitamins. So taking your vitamins is key. We know that there are certain things like selenium, which is a nutrient that’s found in the soil, that’s starting to get depleted based on our farming techniques.
So we don’t have as much in our food as we once did. So there are a lot of people recommending that you take selenium because it has helped reduce prostate cancer potential. And there are even studies with certain forms of selenium that show, with the NIH, that it helped stop prostate cancer and prevent it.
So there’s some good things with that. The other thing, lycopene is a good one. That comes out of tomatoes itself.
So they actually pull it out of tomatoes and you can take that as a supplement. And we know that tomatoes, we’ve always been told or you may have heard, that tomatoes are really good for men and men’s health. Well, that’s what it’s referring to, is it’s really helping our prostate.
And it seems to help keep the prostate small and in check, which then keeps you from going down the path of getting prostate cancer.
I watched a video last night just along those lines with tomatoes, which I had never heard before and I don’t know if this is true because not every video you see is actually, you know, the gospel, Troy, as you know. But I saw a video last night talking about honey and tomatoes together. Basically, slice a tomato into fours and if you’ve got a sore throat, put honey on top of the tomato, eat the tomato, and between those two, it will help with your sore throat.
Something about the tomato itself doing something to shrink some of what’s going on in your throat at that time.
Interesting. Yeah, I did not hear that and haven’t seen that.
But from what you’re saying, that wouldn’t shock me after what you just said.
Yeah, not at all. Not at all. And the honey, we know, certainly helps with sore throats from things that I’ve heard over the years, but the two together, I never would have…
I wouldn’t have either. So next time I have a sore throat, I guess I’ll give it a whirl and see if that, in fact, is the case. And again, not because every video you watch is true, but hey, at this point, if there’s something natural that you can do instead of popping a throat lozenge or something, why not?
I totally agree. Give it a try. See if it works.
All right. Other things that would help, because I see some other things on my list as well. And some of these I know very little about, so I’m learning today from you on this, because I don’t know some of these supplements.
Yeah.
So some of the others that really have shown some great effect with an enlarged prostate is salt palmetto. So that’s been used for years. It’s actually used overseas still as a prescription in some products to help alleviate the size of the prostate.
So we know that it’s going to help enhance urinary flow. It’s going to help decrease the size of the prostate. You’ve got stinging nettles.
That one has had some good head-to-head, even with some prescription prostate medications in the States, that showed it compared favorably as good or even better in some instances. So those are several things that you can use. Beta-sidosterol, that one has been validated for prostate health and prostate size.
So it helps decrease that. And then, really, the final one that, based on what I looked at, that seemed to have some of the biggest effect was pomegranate extract. And that one had some great anti-cancer type properties to it and seemed to perform very well at just keeping the prostate healthy.
And I’m sure a lot of that is due to the antioxidant properties that are in it and the anti-inflammatory properties that it has overall.
Now, one thing I’m going to throw in and for a lot of you men that are listening, you’re going to give me a cheer and I don’t normally get into these things on this program, but since we’re talking prostate health, and that’s in my notes, so this isn’t coming from me, but an active, intimate lifestyle actually helps with this as well, which I did not know either.
Yes, there’s, and this is where the good news comes in, we told people they have to eat more fruits and vegetables, they have to take vitamins, they have to stop drinking beer and tea and coffee and everything else. Well, this is the good news for guys. Exercising that reproductive system has been shown clinically that if you do that 21 times in a month, that there is a lesser chance of having prostate cancer.
Now, they did put the caveat of multiple partners did not have the same effect.
Isn’t that interesting?
Yes, yes. But that was the caveat and that’s the good news for guys.
That makes total sense. And I’m guessing because there’s also some brain functionality that’s going on at the same time that probably contributes to that would be my guess.
I am sure plus the extra oxygen and blood flow and everything else that’s going on is certainly good for the prostate.
Absolutely. Troy, as always, I appreciate it. Before I let you go, how do folks find you?
You can go to Centurion Labs, that’s centurionlabs.com.
And you can find out anything you need to about us and find out about our podcast, Frontline Health There, which you can find anywhere podcasts are available.
Troy, as always, it’s always a joy having you. I appreciate you today very much. And best of luck to you.
And we will for sure have you back, as always.
That sounds good, John. I appreciate it.
You bet, sir. Thank you very much. Troy Duell, nice guy.
And by the way, I want to mention this. And Troy’s not with me, so I’ll mention this because he would be embarrassed if I said this and surely I talk about this every time Troy is on. Troy owns the company.
It’s him. He is so unpromoting of himself and the high quality supplements that he and Centurion Labs puts out that, guys, to me, that says it all. And I don’t think I can say it any other way, Charlie, when you’re that unself-serving, because a lot of people get on here and the first thing they do is promote the things they do.
By the way, I’m not criticizing those individuals. It’s why they’re here. It’s what they do.
But Troy’s the opposite of that. He’s the guy that owns the company and yet, at the end of the day, is so unself-serving when it comes to promoting his own products. There’s even times I’ve given him the opportunity to say, hey Troy, what’s the difference between your products and somebody else?
He won’t even say. He’s that unself-serving that, to me, anybody that is that way, that’s that humble. And you can just hear that in his voice and his demeanor.
He’s just a humble individual. I like him. I like his products.
He’s a good guy. And if you want some high quality supplements, Centurion Labs is the place to go. And I cannot mention that highly enough.

Suck it up, Buttercup. Back to Rush To Reason.
All right, this is a topic I may come back to down the road and talk a little bit more about because Charlie sent me this earlier, and I thought, you know what, on the same token, this fits in to what really we’re talking about today with Health and Wellness Wednesday. And this is a study that was done recently, the top five regrets people have on their deathbeds. And some of you have heard this, so some of this will be probably repetition to some folks, but this is a reminder to those of us that are doing well, and not everybody is.
People go through different spells and different bouts, and as we get older, stuff changes and so on, and our medical condition is what I’m getting at, our health can change. But these are things that people often express when they’re near death or they’re on their deathbed, let’s say. I didn’t spend enough time with the people that I love.
Yeah, I’m guessing that would be a big regret for a lot of people. Number two, I worked too much and missed out on life. Yeah, that’s, I probably could go look in the mirror.
I could go look in the mirror and state that one, because yes, I still work a lot. But, you know, in my case, I love working. And it’s what I do.
And in a lot of cases, it’s a release for me. It takes my mind off of sometimes other things that may be going on. And all of us, by the way, have stuff going on in our lives.
If you ever, there’s always two equals in life. I always tell people this, tell my clients this. Because sometimes people feel like somebody else is doing better than them.
Well, guess what? Two equals in life. One is we all have 24 hours in a day.
Nobody gets any more. Some get less if they die, but nobody gets any more than that. It’s an equality of life, 24 hours in a day.
The other thing that’s an equality of life, we all have problems. No one is immune from a problem. No matter how well you think someone’s doing or how great they look on social media, bottom line is everybody’s got a problem.
So I guess for me personally, I always look at that. It keeps me humble. I have problems, everybody else does as well.
And the reality is at the end of the day, that’s one of the equalities of life. The next one, I let fear control my decisions and I didn’t take risks. Yeah, you know what?
Take some risks here and there. That’s what life’s all about. I wish I’d been braver in the face of uncertainty or opportunity.
That’s one that frankly, I will not have a regret of. And then lastly, I focus too much on the future and lost touch with the present. I think those of us that are planners like myself, that is one thing that I think I can find myself being caught up in.
And my wife at times will tell me, you know, just live in the moment. Just enjoy what’s here right now and forget about what’s going to happen a day, a week, a month, a year from now. And I listen to her regularly and she’s a great woman.
And I appreciate that because, yes, sometimes I tend to focus too much on the future and not enjoy what’s happening around us, around me right now at this moment. So guys, that’s it for today, Health and Wellness Wednesday. We’ll be back with another hour.
Richard Battle will be joining us. Don’t go anywhere. This is Rush To Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, Klz560.
