Join us as guest host Andy Pate takes the reins from John Rush in this engaging episode of Rush to Reason. Filled with vibrant discussions about the State of the Union address and its implications for upcoming midterms, this episode delves into the strategic importance of political rhetoric and voter perception. The guests also take the time to share personal anecdotes, from birthday celebrations to sports banter, adding a touch of relatability and humor to serious political analysis.
SPEAKER 13 :
This is Rush to Reason. You are going to shut your damn yapper and listen for a change because I got you pegged, sweetheart. You want to take the easy way out because you’re scared. And you’re scared because if you try and fail, there’s only you to blame. Let me break this down for you. Life is scary. Get used to it. There are no magical fixes.
SPEAKER 14 :
With your host, John Rush.
SPEAKER 13 :
My advice to you is to do what your parents did!
SPEAKER 09 :
Get a job, Turk! You haven’t made everybody equal. You’ve made them the same, and there’s a big difference.
SPEAKER 01 :
Let me tell you why you’re here. You’re here because you know something. What you know, you can’t explain. But you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life. That there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there. It is this feeling that has brought you to me.
SPEAKER 13 :
Are you crazy? Am I? Or am I so sane that you just blew your mind?
SPEAKER 16 :
It’s Rush to Reason with your host, John Rush. Presented by Cub Creek Heating and Air Conditioning.
SPEAKER 04 :
Filling in is Andy Pate, party of choice. And I’m your host, Andy Pate, filling in for John Rush. I’m joined once again by Tanner Kolb. Man. And Ashley Cart. Her. That’s right. Boy-girl today. Boy-girl.
SPEAKER 07 :
Is that your first time hearing that, Tanner?
SPEAKER 06 :
I feel like we did it once.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, so Tanner, once again, we two guys are outnumbered. We are. Women always outnumber you. If there’s one woman in a room and a thousand guys, the guys are outnumbered. I just want you to know that’s just the way it is. It’s the way of the world. Can you tell I’m married?
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 04 :
Does it show? And by the way, for those who know my blushing bride, Corey, today is her birthday. Happy birthday.
SPEAKER 07 :
Happy birthday, Corey.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s pretty cool. 31, right? Oh, much less than that.
SPEAKER 1 :
29.
SPEAKER 07 :
Tanner, it stays at 29.
SPEAKER 04 :
My wife can finally drink. Very excited. Very excited. You know, every day this year I tell her she’s now too old for me.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m sure she enjoys that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, she does, actually. She does. Okay. By the way, you have some birthday wishes to give as well. Go ahead, Ashley.
SPEAKER 07 :
It is my father-in-law’s birthday. So happy birthday to Wesley.
SPEAKER 04 :
Wesley, happy birthday. That’s pretty wonderful. It is great. Okay. What is going on tonight? Tanner.
SPEAKER 06 :
The State of the Union address.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 06 :
As well as the biggest upset in Champions League knockout stage just happened. What is that? Soccer. I just had to throw that in just for you. Wait, wait. Who got knocked out? Inter Milan. Lost to Moda Glint.
SPEAKER 04 :
See, guys, they’re talking soccer. And I am of the opinion that Tanner just makes this up. He makes up soccer teams. He knows I have no knowledge of soccer. Okay. Absolutely no knowledge of soccer whatsoever because I consider it just, you know, I won’t say it’s not a sport. They’re great athletes.
SPEAKER 06 :
Fantastic. It’s more of a contact sport than basketball is now.
SPEAKER 04 :
I think it’s simply aerobics.
SPEAKER 06 :
I mean, there’s a lot of running. You need to have probably the best endurance of any athlete.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
Incredible. 80 minutes of solid running.
SPEAKER 06 :
At least 90. At least 90.
SPEAKER 07 :
if not more, with the stoppage time.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay, but let’s take a step back here, though, guys. I mean, in general, Tanner, you’ve got to be honest. What? In general, is it really fun to watch 80 minutes of aerobics, watch other people doing 80 minutes of aerobics?
SPEAKER 06 :
I think having a background in it and having past experience in playing definitely helps, but I have plenty of friends who never really played but love watching it.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s more interesting to watch the British and the Europeans play it than the Americans. I’ll just be honest with that one.
SPEAKER 04 :
Now, why is this?
SPEAKER 07 :
I think it moves slower in America.
SPEAKER 06 :
They just don’t have the same money. Because we don’t care. They don’t have the same money in the leagues that they have over there. I mean, in the U.S., it’s great to watch Messi play because he’s the best ever. But he’s like 38, so he’s a show of himself playing against lesser opposition, but he’s still amazing.
SPEAKER 04 :
See, I just can’t get into it. I’m sorry. It’s not entertaining for me, but I understand it is for you. Now, let’s talk about what’s going on tonight. OK, because the State of the Union with Donald Trump, he’s already done one in this time around. And I’m going to be honest, folks, I’m going to be dead honest. And I was honest last year. There were some wonderful moments in the State of the Union last year, but overall, it did not pull well. It turned people off. It angered a lot of people. It did not help us with voters. I think he’s got to do better this time around. He absolutely does because guess what’s coming up in November? The midterms.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 04 :
I’m going to say it right now. This speech tonight for his agenda.
SPEAKER 06 :
Will determine the midterms.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, it might be the most important speech he has made. This might be the most important speech he has made, and he cannot approach it like last year. And I know there are people in his base saying, but we want him to be a fighter. We want him to just go get him. Yeah, nail him, nail him, nail him. Zingers, zingers, zingers. Take down those Democrats. Take down SCOTUS. Okay, you see what I’m saying? Supreme Court people, get him, get him, get him. Look, folks, I spend a lot of time online. I guarantee you that is what MAGA World is saying right now. Get him. Get him!
SPEAKER 06 :
Which is probably the opposite.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s not what he should be doing. Well, we’re going to talk about that in the next segment. I’m going to be asking you guys, what should he do? What shouldn’t he do? But first, I just want to say this. It is that important. Would you agree?
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Especially after his past blunders recently. He needs to focus on this speech being amazing.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right, for those who have not been looking at some of the polls for Trump and for the Republicans right now, if the midterms were held today, We would be devastated. We would be destroyed. We would be wiped out. It would be Armageddon. Bruce Willis would be drilling on a rock in the sky, okay? Right now, if they were held today, we are not popular right now, and that’s got to turn around, and I think it has to start tonight. It has to start tonight because it’s not enough to roll out Vance and Rubio, who are so magical with their words. I know you don’t like Rubio. But I do, okay? And the fact is, Rubio just got this standing O speaking over in Europe, and he was just magic.
SPEAKER 06 :
He’s a good speaker. I’ll give him that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, my gosh. He’s incredible. But he likes Israel, and that’s not your thing. I understand. This, folks… Donald Trump tonight has to knock it out of the park. I’m going to say it. He has to knock it out of the park. On a scale of 1 to 10, this has got to be at least an 8. It is very important. Because if he doesn’t, we are not getting off on the right foot this year. And the basic feeling that people have about the Republican Party, it has to change. And it has to change over the course of this year. Now, the good news is we’ve got plenty of time to do that. We’re going to talk about how to do it this hour and next. But it has to start. Would you agree, Ashley? 100%. Yeah, so I just think it’s very important. Okay, before we go to break, though, let’s talk to Bob and Thornton. Bob, you want to talk a little about soccer? And he just hung up. Bob, I was going to talk soccer. Call back. We’ll put you on.
SPEAKER 07 :
Let’s talk soccer, Bob.
SPEAKER 04 :
Hey, I’m willing to talk soccer, you know, if I absolutely, you know, gun to my head, literally. I’m sorry. Okay, once again on soccer. I think it’s very impressive. It’s just not enough scoring. And I’m an impatient little Andy.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. Andy is impatient. Andy wants, now if you could take the nets and widen them like one mile in each direction to the sides and you would have more scoring, I might enjoy it.
SPEAKER 06 :
Have like 10 goalies on the field.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, just one.
SPEAKER 07 :
I don’t know, Andy. Maybe you just need to watch an Everton versus Liverpool game. You’ll see a lot of scoring.
SPEAKER 04 :
You see, but you’re making up these places. I know those places are real, but you know what? It’s Britain, so who cares? Are those both in Britain?
SPEAKER 06 :
They’re both in the same city. They’re each other’s biggest rivals for the most part, and they were like within 1,000 meters of each other.
SPEAKER 04 :
Guys, just so you know, the reason you have this nation you’re in right now is because we crushed them in a war. Just so you know.
SPEAKER 06 :
I know.
SPEAKER 04 :
Live in the now, Tanner!
SPEAKER 06 :
We also all came from Europe, pretty much.
SPEAKER 04 :
Who cares?
SPEAKER 06 :
Live in the now!
SPEAKER 04 :
I came from Germany, so we just want to take over the world. We’re the dog with the car. We have no idea what we’d do if we caught it. Okay? But that’s what Germans are. We’re weird. Before we go to break… Let’s take a look at the question of the day. Sound good? All right. And I’m in the wrong place. Here it is. Okay. Yesterday’s question, and you came close on this. Here we go. I’ll throw it to Ashley. Right. What was the title of the pamphlet widely credited with persuading American colonists to move toward independence? Go. Pamphlet.
SPEAKER 07 :
The pamphlet. That’s not common sense.
SPEAKER 04 :
Not the four spiritual laws. And yes, it was common sense.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, okay. It was common sense. Ashley, way to go. I know my U.S. history. I just doubt my U.S. history knowledge.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m the exact opposite. I think I know it, but I should be doubting myself. I said the Federalist Papers yesterday.
SPEAKER 07 :
See, that was what I was questioning. The Federalist Papers was my second guess.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, okay. I’ll take that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, that’s pretty good. Not bad. Not bad. Okay. Today’s impossible question. Here we go. What immune cells are responsible for antibody production? immune cells that are responsible for antibody production.
SPEAKER 07 :
Those are T cells, aren’t they?
SPEAKER 04 :
No. By the way, what is the T virus?
SPEAKER 07 :
No idea.
SPEAKER 04 :
Tanner virus? It makes zombies. Never mind, it’s a movie. Hey, I can’t help it. It’s Resident Evil. I’ve seen just a few of them. Okay, we will answer that on Friday. We’re going to be back.
SPEAKER 06 :
This should be on, like, are you smarter than a high schooler? I haven’t heard any of this stuff since I was at least in high school, but autoimmune cells, I don’t know. I’ll throw something at it.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, sorry, but good choice. Good try. And, you know, I would say common sense because now that’s my answer to everything.
SPEAKER 07 :
That should be the answer to everything.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, let’s take a break. When we come back, I’m going to ask these two because, and this is very important, folks, because these are two young people, people in their 20s, and I want to ask, what do young people and America do? want to hear tonight and what don’t they want to hear tonight from Donald Trump. You ready?
SPEAKER 06 :
Ready. Let’s do it.

SPEAKER 14 :
God. Country. Reason. Now back to John Rush.
SPEAKER 04 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560, Andy Pate filling in for John Rush, along with Tanner Cole and Ashley Carter. That’s right, okay. By the way, before we get into what Trump should and shouldn’t do tonight, based on the views of two young people, and this is very valuable, folks, I want you to listen to this, but before we do that, I was getting attacked during the break time we just had here because I don’t like soccer and hockey. Let me explain why, okay?
SPEAKER 07 :
I can’t wait to hear this.
SPEAKER 04 :
It’s not because, oh, gee, I’m an American and I hate everything European. I only say that for fun, okay? But I don’t actually feel that way. I actually love Europe. But… It is perpetual motion back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Nonstop perpetual motion with very little scoring. That is what I don’t like. Now, if you have football, in football you have a progression. You move down the field or you have to punt and they move back. And every single play there is this unleashing of strategy that is happening on every single play.
SPEAKER 07 :
Unless you’re the Patriots.
SPEAKER 04 :
Unless you’re the Patriots, exactly. But, you know, where you have all these different sized people, right? They’re totally different. You’ve got these huge guys up front. You’ve got these little guys out on the side who are lightning fast. It’s not a bunch of people who can run fast and all look the same physically, okay? It is totally different athletes. It’s like a totally different chessboard. Right. Where you’ve basically got, you know, in chess, you got totally, you know, the pawns move differently from the rook moves differently from the everything. It is incredible strategy because you got to have these big guys who are at war down in the trenches, little guys who are flying on the edges, a brilliant quarterback and brilliant secondary people who are reading them. And on every play, you have this incredible strategy. strategy that explodes. All right. Plus you get to watch a progression down the field. It’s not just, oh, they go all the way down there. They come all the way back. They go all the way down there. They come all the way back. Perpetual motion. I can’t watch perpetual motion machine for hours and hours and hours. If there’s not, if there’s not a lot of scoring going on now, basketball is perpetual motion, but with a lot of scoring.
SPEAKER 07 :
Too much scoring.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, you could argue that. But at least there’s a lot of scoring. And there are times when it is too much, right? It got to a point with the All-Star games where nobody watched them anymore. Why? Because nobody played defense and it was 180 to 160 or whatever. Nobody cared, right? Just guys doing layups on both ends. You want to see some defense, but at least in basketball. with the perpetual motion you do get a lot of scoring all right in hockey perpetual motion you have very little scoring i do believe hockey because it’s in a more confined area is more impressive to watch for me than soccer okay besides which you’re doing it on skates which is insane i believe hockey should be played on skis i think that’d be kind of fun I’m kidding. Okay. So my favorite sports are football, of course, number one, because it’s an incredible progression. When you score, you get seven or three based on how you score, maybe two if you get a safety. And it’s just incredible to watch because of the progression moving down the field, not down, back, down, back, down, back without scoring. Basketball is down, back, down, back, but with scoring. hockey and soccer, I am of the opinion no one has actually scored in the last 27 years. I think it’s fake. I think it’s CGI that they’re putting on the screen to convince you that somebody actually scored at some point. There you go. Baseball is pretty boring, I’ll be honest, but at least you have progression, once again, around the base paths. You’re wearing down the pitcher into the fifth and sixth inning, and there’s that strategy going on. So you got progression with the low scoring, but baseball’s pretty dull. Okay. What do you guys think? Tear into me.
SPEAKER 07 :
I would have respected it more if instead of football, you said rugby, but rugby is not nearly as boring as football is.
SPEAKER 04 :
But isn’t that from that nation that we destroyed in a war? Australia?
SPEAKER 07 :
That does not narrow anything down, Andy. We’ve destroyed almost every nation in a war.
SPEAKER 04 :
That’s true. And Australia, not yet. Oh. We’ll go to war with them sometime. I mean, Trump’s in charge. Okay. You know, I’m kidding, folks. I’m kidding. Trump is a peacemaker. Okay. Anyway, that’s why I don’t like soccer. That’s why I’m not big into it. Now, let’s get back to the State of the Union. I got, you know, a question for each of you. What does America want to hear tonight in the State of the Union? Ashley, go first.
SPEAKER 07 :
This may be controversial, but I think America wants to hear Trump actually stick to the script that his writers have written for him. We love when he goes off script occasionally, but at this point, he needs to stay on script and stay on topic and not put all of his Trumpisms in there because that is what makes me turn the TV off.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay, let me say something, though. I have seen a couple times when Trump stayed too much on script and it came off boring.
SPEAKER 06 :
Or dull.
SPEAKER 04 :
Just so you know. But I agree with you. You’re right. They don’t want to see him rambling on and on and on, way off script, going way out in left field. They don’t want to see that. I agree. I just want you to know, if he stays absolutely on script, have you ever seen guys just come off scripted?
SPEAKER 07 :
Sure, that’s almost every other politician in the world.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right, and that’s what makes him fresh and different. But actually, I’m agreeing with you. I’m just throwing in a caveat.
SPEAKER 07 :
No, I think that there’s a middle ground that can be reached, but he needs to not ramble. Okay, fair enough.
SPEAKER 06 :
Tanner. The good thing is Trump can read because Newsom can’t, apparently, self-admittedly.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, that’s pretty funny. And that’s why he relates to people of color. Isn’t that great? Way to go, Newsome.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I got a 960 SAT. What? That’s the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. Anyways, I have a lot of – I probably have at least my friends here in Denver split down the middle with both sides.
SPEAKER 05 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
We all are more starting to agree than usual, which I’m happy about.
SPEAKER 04 :
However, I think – What are you guys agreeing on? Don’t run on from that.
SPEAKER 06 :
Because you’re young.
SPEAKER 04 :
For those who don’t know, I know he has a grown-up voice, but Tanner is only eight.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 04 :
We let him in. Go ahead, Tanner.
SPEAKER 06 :
Some of the ice stuff we agree on. All of my friends I’ve talked to, both people that died shouldn’t have died, but… They were in the wrong in the first place. Right. Okay. Or the border needs to be secure. They agree with that. Or, yeah, the economy seems to be doing well, but the job market is still not great out there.
SPEAKER 04 :
Still tight.
SPEAKER 06 :
Very tight. A lot of people are saying the worst since 08. But I think unity is the first thing he has to come out with. And especially if the hockey team will be there, which they say they are.
SPEAKER 04 :
Can I ask a question? Why doesn’t it occur to anybody? Now, look, two tragic shootings, right, up in Minneapolis. But why doesn’t it occur to anybody, and I’m asking both of you, that you have ICE encountering people who don’t want to be removed from the country?
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
These are violent encounters, okay? These are people who don’t want to be removed, and you are going out and removing them. Right. And you only have two shootings out of tens and tens and tens of thousands of encounters. Why are people not impressed by that? Because nobody’s looking at ICE and saying everybody in it is Jesus, Gandhi, and Mother Teresa rolled into one. No large group of people is perfect. Shouldn’t they be impressed by how few of these incidents there are when you’ve got not only these people not wanting to be caught, not wanting to be taken out, but you’ve got the activists who are hell-bent on violence.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Why are people, especially young people, not impressed by ICE in that situation? They just look right by it and blame ICE.
SPEAKER 06 :
I think it’s because, well, when Trump got elected, all the big liberal media said they were going to do better about not trying to separate everyone, and they still are. And I think their coverage of… The ice raids and what’s been happening. And then there’s two people that die out of, like you said, thousands of raids. I think it’s just something for them to cling on and something that supports their opinion that I hate Trump. I hate MAGA. I hate everything that’s red.
SPEAKER 04 :
I think you’re getting down to it here. I think Trump makes himself easy to hate. Now, I blame most of the hatred toward him on the media, as you’re saying.
SPEAKER 1 :
100%.
SPEAKER 06 :
Because he used to be America’s sweetheart. Everyone loved him back in the 90s and early 2000s.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, but he’s got the big four, as I call them, the big four molders of public thought totally against him. Media, academia, entertainment, and big tech.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. And they have been beating people up. I mean, for years, it’s finally turning around. But for years, anytime you would Google anything on Trump, it would automatically bring up all the negatives.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
And still does to a point.
SPEAKER 1 :
100%.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. So he’s got everything arranged against him. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t make himself an easy target.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, he’s also, you know, he was a celebrity, a billionaire before he ever took office. Everyone loved him, it seemed. I mean, he was on The View all the time. Now they can’t stop talking about him.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right.
SPEAKER 06 :
So it’s funny how people’s minds just get manipulated so quickly, and you kind of have to ask yourself, like, what is actually real and what’s not? And with AI and everything nowadays, you have no idea what you’re actually looking at, if it’s fabricated, if it’s, you know, just a false claim or whatever it may be.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, and most of it is.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
By the way, done on both sides. Oh, 100%. The right and the left put out all this garbage that people buy into. Now, okay, I asked you what America does want to hear. You said Stanscript, and you said Unity First.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Pretty much, right?
SPEAKER 06 :
Especially with the hockey team being there, why not?
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. Okay, now here’s the other question. What does America not want to hear? Okay, I’m going to be honest, folks. Last year’s speech did not sell, okay? There were some parts of it that were fantastic, that sold well, but a lot of parts didn’t. What does America not want to hear, especially young people? Go Tanner.
SPEAKER 06 :
I mean, I don’t really care that much, but I personally want him to not just attack the Democrats the entire time or attack certain people on the left. I think going for unity and talking about some of the accomplishments he’s had… thus far is a better start and then maybe saying what he could even do better i know that’s very vulnerable place and i don’t know if he wants to go there no i think it would i think it would show that like he’s human just like the rest of us he makes mistakes he knows he can improve he knows he can do this and that to maybe help both sides instead of just one side but i do think he does have to kind of bring up how he was disappointed about um what we talked about yesterday i’m blanking
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay, Ashley, go on. I mean, like, I agree that it’d be nice. We want to hear about the accomplishments and the good things. But for me personally, and for a lot of people I talk to, is we are so sick and tired of the hyperbole that we get every time he talks. The, you know, I did the best thing in the world.
SPEAKER 01 :
Gas prices are the greatest they’ve ever been.
SPEAKER 07 :
This is the best it’s ever been. No, it’s not.
SPEAKER 04 :
it stop telling us that everything is the best it’s ever been tell us that it is improving tell us that what you are doing is working yeah don’t try to convince us that this is the best it’s ever been yeah you know the boy who cried wolf we’ve all heard the story of the boy who cried wolf when you keep saying wolf wolf wolf people won’t believe you it’s also true of the boy who cried best ever Okay, when you say everything is the greatest ever, everything is the best ever, everything is the most awesome ever, guess what? People tune you out.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, it also kind of just, if you keep using the same terms over and over, it doesn’t seem like you have much of a vocabulary to base off of.
SPEAKER 04 :
And that happens to all of them. Obama went through that. He really did.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Oh, yeah. People got so sick of the professorial talking down to America stuff with no results to back it up, right?
SPEAKER 05 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 04 :
By the end of Obama’s eight years, people were so ready to get him out the door. OK, that’s pretty common with all of them. Bush, same thing. Clinton, same thing. Even Reagan, I think by the end of his eight years, although he probably held up the best in terms of popularity. OK, here’s what I think. I think that people don’t want to hear. Donald Trump, divide. And the reason is this, because I know we’re thinking, well, the base is yelling out, yeah, get them, be a fighter. We want a fighter. We want a fighter. But let me ask you this, outside of the Republican base, the base is what, about a quarter of the country? I’m talking the base, okay? Outside of the base, I believe the rest of the country wants to see a cool, calm hand at the wheel. Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I want to see someone who wants the country to be one country, one nation under God. That’s what we were founded upon.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right.
SPEAKER 07 :
We can’t be that if all we ever do is attack each other.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay, well, tell you what, after the break, when we come back, I’m going to walk through what I think he should say. Not all of it. No, gosh, no, goodness. Write the speech for him, Andy. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Just a few ideas, okay? He’s going to go on for over an hour tonight, which, by the way, I think is a bad idea.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I would cut hard at an hour.
SPEAKER 04 :
I would cut it at 40. I really would. Why not? Okay, because people don’t care. They don’t want to hear more than that. All right. But I’m going to say what I think would be some good things that Trump could do tonight. And by the way, he might do some of them. Sound good? We’ll do that when we come back. Up next is Cub Creek Heating and Air. Hey, winter is here and your heater is working for now. Make sure it’s running its best and safe for the winter with a checkup from Cub Creek at 303-656-5467.

SPEAKER 02 :
Power outages have typically been caused in Colorado by weather. In California, however, it is a different story. There, power outages can be caused by fires, solar flares, cyber and physical attacks, and rolling blackouts. Here in Colorado, if you have Xcel Energy, power outages can even be caused by the power company turning your electricity off so they will not start a fire. Keep your family safe, warm, and dry by adding battery backup power to your home. And there is a $5,000 rebate check for all who sign up if you have Xcel Energy. Call Allen Davis at 303-378-7537 and make power outages a thing of the past in your home. Email Allen at davis at omnipower.solar.
SPEAKER 14 :
The best export we have is common sense. You’re listening to Rush to Reason.
SPEAKER 04 :
And welcome back to Rush to Reason. Denver’s Afternoon Rush. KLZ 560. Andy Pate filling in for John Rush. And just so you know, I am qualified to shovel snow in New York. I have ID. And joining me right now is Tanner Cole. Man. And Ashley Cart. Her. That’s right. Okay. Guys, I’m going to say, I believe… that you are absolutely right on what you were saying in the last segment. This has to be unity, unity, unity. This cannot be the brawl it was last year. Now, there are going to be people who are going to say, but the Democrats are going to make a big scene and they’re going to. Yes, the worse they do, the better he’ll look if he doesn’t do it. OK, if he’s classy, well, they’re not classy.
SPEAKER 07 :
That speaks volumes.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yes. Yes. It’s like, Donald, take the W, buddy. Yeah. Take the W because they are going to be classless, and they are giving you a magnificent opportunity. So here’s what I would do. I would focus on the U.S. hockey team. Yep.
SPEAKER 07 :
Do it.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. And right away, I would, of course, and he will, congratulate the U.S. hockey team. Everybody’s going to give them a standing O and all this kind of stuff, and I think that’s great. And then I would say, okay – But folks, you know, we are very proud of them, but understand they’re very proud of us. What are our Olympians playing for? And make the speech about what they’re playing for. What are they playing to represent? Because they’re representing America. No wonder they’re proud, okay? I’m going to throw a few out. Here we go. They play for a nation that led the way in ending slavery. where all people are created equal and everyone can build a great life by the content of their character and the sweat of their brow. You work, you win in America, just like hockey. What do you think?
SPEAKER 06 :
I like it. I like it a lot. I also think if he, obviously the men’s team will be there, he better bring up the women’s team, because you know if he doesn’t, a lot of people are just going to pick that out, which is ridiculous.
SPEAKER 04 :
You know what, I considered that a given, but you’re right, good to bring it up.
SPEAKER 07 :
And he really had better not make a big deal about them not going to the White House, because the news reports I’ve seen is the reason they said no is because they already have a prior engagement.
SPEAKER 04 :
Doesn’t matter. I would praise them, period, and leave it at that and say how awesome they are. How’s that?
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. Yeah. Next, I’d say freedom. They play for a nation where people can say what they want, worship as they want, and live as they want. What a great place. Okay. Next, they play for a nation that doesn’t tax tips. Okay. I know that seems small, folks, but think about it. They play for a place where every time you tip that great server or driver, you’re tipping them, not the government. God bless America. It’s awesome. Okay, they play for a nation with secure borders. A front door on our home. Now, does your home have a front door because you hate everybody outside? No, it’s because you love everyone inside. They’re your family, and you choose who enters.
SPEAKER 07 :
I also hate everyone who’s outside, but that’s just me.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, you don’t hate people in Europe because you’re soccer weirdos. Okay, next. They play for a nation that negotiates fair trade deals, not deals where other nations charge huge tariffs on our goods while we charge next to none. In other words, they play for a nation of winners because they’re winners on the ice.
SPEAKER 06 :
You steal that from me from yesterday?
SPEAKER 04 :
No, I didn’t. OK, I did not. They play for a nation where wages are now rising faster than inflation. Yeah, folks, we got a long ways to go. I know. But right now, business is booming. The future is bright. Energy is plentiful. That’s what they’re playing for is a great country that is starting to roar. They play for a Supreme Court that has agreed and disagreed with every president, but above all, protects us with the greatest constitution ever written. Okay, the Supreme Court’s going to be in front row in front of him. I would throw out an olive branch like that.
SPEAKER 06 :
I like it.
SPEAKER 04 :
And say, they play for justice, and it’s sitting right in front of us here. And honor them. Don’t fight. Okay? They play for a nation that in 2025 saw the biggest single-year drop in crime on record. Today, our streets are safer, kids are safer, young women are safer, businesses are safer, and cartels are stopped on the open seas. We may not stop everything like a great goalie I just watched, but we’re pretty good. What do you think? I like it. Okay. And finally, they play for a nation that helped stop eight wars in the last year. I led that effort, but we were all part of it. To our wonderful Olympians, you don’t represent endless wars. You represent peace. What do you think?
SPEAKER 06 :
I like it.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah. In other words, I say this is what they’re playing for, folks. They’re playing for you. They’re playing for the greatness of everybody in this room and, more importantly, everybody you represent. Whether you’re Republican, Democrat, Independent, you are the ones that they play to represent because you are what makes America great.
SPEAKER 07 :
I wouldn’t want him to harp on it too much, but it would be nice if he brought up Alyssa Liu, too. Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
By all means. Seeing the success of a good story of a legal immigrant coming and making a name for themselves.
SPEAKER 04 :
Absolutely. By the way, I would actually list several. Yeah. Okay. I’m just emphasizing the hockey team. I know they’re going to be sitting there, so it’s kind of exciting. But yeah, absolutely. This is what I would do tonight if I were Donald Trump. Now, of course, he’s got to go through all his achievements. And what I would do is… before and after look at America of the last year. I would say before the last year, folks, our companies were facing 200% tariffs in some places, totally blocked out of selling their products around the world in many nations around the world. Now they’re facing nothing. Now look at the tariffs. Let me give you a few examples, and I would. Not 20 minutes of numbers. I’m talking about one minute. And just say, okay, let’s take this country, for example. Here’s the tariff that our companies were having to have paid if they wanted to sell anything there. They couldn’t sell anything there. They were closed off. Now, here’s the tariff they’re paying. Zero. And instead, they are paying a certain amount, 15%, to come here and sell their products here. And they’re helping fund our treasury here.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. I think he has to harp on that because I don’t think a lot of people understand that us tariffing other countries is only making us richer. I don’t think that many people understand that.
SPEAKER 04 :
Well, no. Too many people look at it and they just say, well, yeah, but we’re paying the tariff. The customer pays the tariff. Yes, but they’re offsetting the cost. Folks, and I would say this. You were told at the beginning of last year that these tariffs would have inflation running at 8%, 9%, 10%. Inflation has been falling every month. It’s now down to 2.4%. It’ll jump around some, but folks, inflation is low. Why? Because the people who were selling to you were overcharging you. So they cut their prices to offset. And that’s why you’re not seeing it when you buy things.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
But we need affordability to be better.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
And here are the things we’re going to do. And then I would start walking through them. We had a wide open border before. Wide open. Thousands just pouring across the border. Coming in. And now we have a completely closed border for the first time in, well… basically american history yeah it’s really nice it’s incredible right look not everybody who comes here is a terrible person who’s going to commit crimes but some of them are okay you had far more crime crime was overrunning the inner cities now crime is down okay uh what is the car what’s what’s called evs yeah no cars when they get uh attacked or whatever Tesla attacks? No. Never mind. I’m sorry, folks. I don’t have it in front of me. But let’s see here. Murder is down 21%. Okay. Oh, here it is. Carjackings. I don’t know why I was spacing the word. Carjackings are down 43%. Overdoses are down 20%. Folks, we’re making a difference. But it doesn’t happen overnight.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Inflation, we have finally stopped it. We’ve controlled it. And now for the first time, wages are rising faster than inflation. That’s the first time that’s happened in many years.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s been the biggest complaint of young people for years.
SPEAKER 04 :
Exactly.
SPEAKER 07 :
We cannot meet inflation.
SPEAKER 04 :
Exactly. And I know, and if I’m Donald Trump, I’d say, folks, I understand you still can’t afford that home. You still can’t get going. It does take time. We’re turning around a ship here.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 06 :
I mean, look at 2008. How bad that was.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, but it is coming. Yeah, it is coming. It is improving. And it’s improving quick. Okay. Energy, we were completely dependent.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay, on China, in a lot of ways for green energy. Now we’re making more of our own. We’re the biggest exporter in the world. And just go on and on and on. Do some before and after. So first, I would lead in by saying this is what they play for. This is what they play to represent. And not talk about myself all the time as a president, but the greatness of what has happened. What we, we, we, we, we, we have done.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I think the word we needs to replace the word I in his vocabulary.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I also, even though folks is such a common term, I think it just is a little more endearing to everyone.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. Here’s the big thing I’m going to close with on this. All right. I know a lot of people in the base look at this and they say, but no, I want him to. I like it when he talks about I. I like it when he does all these things. I like it. Guys, yes, but that’s playing to the base.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
He had us at hello.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. He had us at hello. He doesn’t have to do that. You don’t have to win the base. But right now. If the midterms were held, we would get blown off the planet right now. I’m telling you, we would. Well, yeah, but the Democrats are pulling even worse than we are. Yeah, but they’re winning every every off your election. OK, they are doing extremely well. They crushed us in Virginia and New Jersey. OK, it is not looking good right now. This is Donald Trump’s chance. This is his opportunity. And Marco Rubio just made a speech in Munich. It was so brilliant. He went into a hostile audience and got a standing ovation. And he didn’t compromise, okay? But he knew how to do it. It was brilliant. It was one of the most brilliant speeches I’ve ever seen in all my years on planet Earth, okay? Donald Trump, please, you don’t have to become Marco, but do understand there’s a reason this stuff works. Do some of it. Be yourself. Be funny. Donald Trump is funny. Oh, yeah. But you’ve got to unite. And you’ve got to say a lot more we than I. And I believe you’re going to come out of this and start us on the road to winning in November. He can do it tonight, but he’s got to do it. What do you think, Ashley?
SPEAKER 07 :
I mean, I agree with every single one of your points. It has to be focused on unity. It has to be focused on the things that we have accomplished as a nation. Yeah. And he needs to really, really focus on getting maybe this is just me talking because I am a young person. He needs to focus on getting the young people on his side.
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. And by the way, we’re going to be talking in Hour 2 on how we can start moving some of the young people our way. And Hour 2 is going to be a lot of fun. I know everybody out there, you know some young people or you know people who know young people. And you’re probably thinking we can’t reach them. We can’t reach them. We can’t reach them. Yes, you can. OK, you can reach them to a degree. OK. And independents as well. Well, they’ve turned us off. You can turn them back on. We can do that. Right. And we’re going to talk about that in the next hour. But when we come back, I’m finally going to look at you guys and say, what do you expect Trump to do tonight? I said what I would do. What do you expect? OK. But up next is Michael Bailey Law. Hey, your loved ones, they mean the most to you. So make sure your will is done and their future is secure. Don’t wait. Call Michael Bailey at 720-730-7274.
SPEAKER 12 :

Hey, maybe you’ll luck out and use up all your assets the day you die, or maybe you’ll find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. But that doesn’t seem like a solid plan. If you’re like most people, you don’t want to rely on luck when your family’s future is on the line. Some people assume it’s all going to their spouse, and maybe that’s true, but what if you have kids from another marriage? What happens to those sentimental things? And were there investments or retirement accounts? Who gets what and who decides? You might be on the same page, but if it’s not on a literal page that you can send to the state, it doesn’t count. You’ll run the risk of being under the default rules. And if you want to ensure your family stays out of probate court when you pass on, you need to make a simple, quick, and inexpensive appointment today with the mobile estate planner, Michael Bailey. SPEAKER 04 :
now back to rush to reason on klz 560 and welcome back to rush to reason denver’s afternoon rush klz 560 andy pate filling in for john rush along with ashley cart her and tanner cole man that’s right you are all man you know that you are all man it just cracks me up i luke and i usually go man and then she goes her and it’s just a complete opposite do you want me to say her in a manly voice for the next round maybe Yeah, don’t say man because that’s Cartman, you know, which just wouldn’t work, okay? This is not South Park. All right. What do we actually expect Donald Trump to do tonight? And by the way, folks, if you want to call in on this, you can call in now or in the next hour. Feel free. It’s 303-477-5600. What do you want to hear? What don’t you want to hear? What do you expect? Do you love his speeches? Do you think maybe a different approach, a different tone tonight would be better? Here’s my I’m going to go first. We’re going to go around. All right. OK. I believe we are going to see a more unifying tone than we saw last year. I believe it will be better. OK, I believe that it’s going to be more guarded with the fact that he has the Supreme Court in the front row that just disagreed with him. I believe he’s going to be more positive this year. I believe it’s going to be more guarded, more positive, and more unifying because I think he’s got an eye on November. That’s what I expect. Ashley, go.
SPEAKER 07 :
I have the pessimistic approach on this one. I think he’s going to tear into the Supreme Court. I think he’s going to essentially victimize himself with the fact that they disagreed with him.
SPEAKER 04 :
If he does that, if he comes off bitter and uses this speech for retribution against the Supreme Court, how is that going to sell outside of the hard base? He’s going to lose everyone. Okay. Will that be something that hurts our party in November? Absolutely. Okay. What do you think, Tanner, if he does that?
SPEAKER 06 :
I think he’s going to put the photo up of Kamala looking drunk on the screen. seriously i think that would be funny but no i’m expecting him to bad mouth the left a little but i hope sure he has someone in his ear telling him please don’t go overboard because we’re depending on this a lot i also think he will say a couple things about how great he is but i think he’s going to limit it more than usual still gonna rear its ugly head but i think it will be better than last year is my expectation
SPEAKER 04 :
All right, let me ask you this. Do you guys expect to see more we this time and less I versus versus his previous speeches?
SPEAKER 07 :
I hope to see more we this time. OK.
SPEAKER 04 :
Rather than I. And for those who don’t know, Ashley likes Trump and wants him to succeed. You’re rooting for him.
SPEAKER 07 :
I do. I do root for him. I voted for him both times. It’s just I’m also one of the people that he can annoy quite easily.
SPEAKER 04 :
OK. What annoys you? It’s OK, because right now I want you to talk not just as Ashley, but as the average voter. Go.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s for me, it is the almost narcissistic approach he takes to the accomplishments. I, I, I, I did this. I’m the greatest president of all time. I’m the one that’s saving the US. I’m making America great again. It’s not just you. You need to stop with all of this. I, it is not just you. It is not just you doing it. You have a cabinet of people that are helping you do this.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. Now, what do you, what would you say? And I’m going to throw this one to Tanner here. Tanner, obviously we are hoping he doesn’t come off as vindictive and angry and petty. But what would you say to all of his supporters who say, yeah, but that’s what makes him the fighter we admire? We haven’t had a fighter before now. We’ve had these guys like George Bush who would just bend over and fall over like wet grass in the wind. And now we finally have a fighter, and that’s what we respect. That’s what we need. If we don’t have that, the country’s lost. What do you think?
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, a fighter needs his rest after a fight. So I think taking the high road will only do him good, especially if he’s not too over the top. I just think there’s a time and a place for everything. And I think if he goes balls to the wall, just ripping the Democrats, ripping the Supreme Court, it will only hurt his case for, I guess, only hurt his approval rating and hurt us in November.
SPEAKER 04 :
Okay. And I’m going to say that you’re right. And I believe there’s a huge difference here, folks. I believe there’s a difference between a fighter and a brawler.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
And I think that the Trump that people don’t want to see tonight is the brawler.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
OK, the guy who’s just vindictive, angry. It’s about me, me, me. And you didn’t listen to me. And now I’m angry. Don’t you see what I’m doing for America? And you’re just I think that’s a brawler. Yeah. OK, that’s a petty. That’s a kid on a playground.
SPEAKER 06 :
A little whiny.
SPEAKER 04 :
Have you ever seen kids on a playground when they get into a fight? First of all, it is funny. But when you see it, they’re just throwing these just throwing haymakers all over the place and they don’t know what they’re doing. Right. Then you see an expert boxer, Muhammad Ali, in the ring. Poke, poke, jab, jab, jab. You know, move. Float like a butterfly. Sting like a bee. And you see this brilliant footwork and all this kind of stuff. That’s Marco Rubio, by the way. Right. It’s just poke, poke, poke. It’s not like he doesn’t jab you. He does. Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. It impresses the living daylights out of you. Okay. I want to see a fighter tonight. I do want to see a fighter. I don’t want to see a brawler. What do you think, Ashley? I agree with that. Yeah, I don’t think I don’t think America wants to see a brawler. I think America right now is very worried because we talk about affordability and it’s become a big issue for the Democrats, even though they caused it all.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right.
SPEAKER 04 :
OK, it blows my mind. They caused all the problem. We’ll get into that in the next hour. But they’re winning on that issue. And why? Because when things cost too much and people can’t afford what they need, they can’t afford to pay that student loan, they can’t afford to pay the rent, they can’t afford the things that they’ve been used to, they become very fearful. They become frightened. And when people are frightened, I believe… The last thing they want to see is an out-of-control person at the helm of their ship. I think they want to see a calm hand.
SPEAKER 07 :
The last thing we want to see is someone just, like you said, throwing punches willy-nilly. Just, it’s your fault. It’s your fault. Why aren’t you listening to me? And it’s like, okay, we get it. They screwed it up. Make the jabs have a point. What are you doing to fix it with your cabinet?
SPEAKER 04 :
Right. Right. Because I think in a lot of ways, Trump has brought the adults back into the room in running Washington. He really has. His cabinet is beyond spectacular. He is great. He is, I believe, the greatest president of my lifetime. Maybe Reagan. I mean, they’re both so incredible.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s a long lifetime.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, it’s a very long lifetime. Do I look good for 92? You look great. Thanks. I’m holding up. Okay. He is an incredible president. He has more to brag about in this last year than you can count. It’s been amazing what he’s achieved. I mean, it is off the charts. It really is. Right. But, folks, I think people want to see a calm hand at the wheel right now because they are still frightened. They want to see, guess what, the pain you’re in, you’re coming out of. And I mean it, and I’ll make sure of it. And I won’t sleep until you are. That’s what they want to see. They don’t want to see a petulant child. yelling at the other side or the supreme court they don’t want to see that but he’s a fighter no that no at that point you’re wanting a brawler right you want a fighter have somebody who can stick those jabs stick those punches because the democrats deserve them okay look at california everybody’s running from there look at new york city everybody’s running from there okay We’re going to talk in the next hour about things that we can say, very effective things, and that the young people around you are a lot more reachable than you think. You know why I know that? Because I watch you guys and Luke, and I just know that you’re able to reach people a lot better than most of us. We try. That means it can be done, right? There you go. Unlike me and Charlie. We’re lost. Okay. So what do you think, guys? Last statement. Will he hit a single tonight, a double, a triple, or a home run? What do you expect? Tanner, go.
SPEAKER 06 :
