And we’re back. Hour number two, Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Ammon Blair joining us now, senior fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Welcome back, Ammon. How are you? Good, sir. How are you? I’m great. Always a joy to have you. Let’s talk a little bit about Donald Trump, some of the ICE raids, different things that are happening. It seems like every week there’s another story out. Either somebody’s getting arrested for going after ICE, or we’ve got protests. We’ve got Donald Trump, of course, who’s basically not backing down from what they’re doing. If anything, he’s intensifying that, and to his credit, giving ICE agents a lot of support.
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, 100%. And you know how we as states could actually give them more support? How’s that? Is by actually signing the agreement that the Trump administration, Tom Holman, is asking for us to do. So right now, Bovino and the Border Patrol and ICE are conducting operations in New Orleans. But when you look at the state itself, So there were 57 out of the 64 parishes that voted for Donald Trump, and immigration and deportation was the top priority.
SPEAKER 06 :
Meaning that state is behind what Donald Trump is doing, basically, is what you’re saying.
SPEAKER 04 :
Correct. So 57 out of 64. Now, when you look at how many of those parishes actually signed an agreement to work with ICE, it’s only six out of those 57. Hmm. Then when you look at how many police departments through the entire state have signed an agreement to work with ICE, it is also only six. And so when you look at this and you look at Trump is like, hey, we need to get these numbers. We need to get these numbers. If the Trump administration, Tom Homan, Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, if all of those would actually focus their time and efforts on holding red counties and red states accountable to supporting ICE, and proactively going after illegal aliens in their own communities, then Trump would not only reach his numbers, but would 10X those numbers.

So how do we get that done? What has to happen to make that happen, Ammon?
SPEAKER 04 :
To be honest, education. I actually am just ending an operation here in Brooks County, in Jim Wells County here in the state of Texas. where we actually brought in two First Nation chiefs from Canada. They’re part of the Mohawk Nation to see actually how Texas is actually doing this operation to not only do mass deportation efforts, but also counter cartel smuggling operations. And when we’re going around and talking to the sheriffs, they had no idea, one, what really 287G was, what were the requirements for them as an agency, what were the resources that were available to them, To give you an example, Goliad County Sheriff, Sheriff Roy Boyd, who is just outside of Houston, small county. He’s already received over $200,000 from the Department of Homeland Security in his efforts in supporting ICE. Wow. Now, if you were to go to a small county, he’s like, you know what? Based off of your level of what you are willing to do with ICE, there’s all this money and resources available for you and your sheriffs. and your deputies and your local law enforcement. And all you need to do is clean up your communities with illegal aliens and hell mice. And so if the Trump administration were to create like a recruiting team, that all they did is go around and start speaking region by region. You could break it up into like FEMA regions and then break it up even further and work with agencies that are currently being successful, like Sheriff Roy Boyd in the task force here in Texas. although the task force in Florida.
SPEAKER 06 :
I like that idea. In other words, this is sort of like a reward system, if you would, Ammon. So listen, hey, you work with us. You scratch our back, we’ll scratch yours. Let’s get this done together, and at the end of the day, we’ll make this successful.
SPEAKER 04 :
Correct, 100%.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, you know what? I think that’s a fabulous idea. So I fully understand there’s going to be certain areas where you’re going to get really good, solid buy-in. I know there’s going to be certain areas where they’re going to say, oh, geez, now all you’re trying to do is bribe us into doing your dirty work. I get it. You’re going to see some of that both ways. But man alive, sounds to me like you could sure move the football forward by doing what you’re saying.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, 100%. Because when you talk to these counties, they don’t realize, they’re like, dang, I don’t have enough personnel as it is. We’re already in a law enforcement shortage. So I can’t give my time, personnel, and resources to this effort as well as doing my other work. But what many people don’t realize is by conducting immigration enforcement operations, especially now in the United States, it is almost 100% tied to to the Mexican cartels, all the other organizations, because every single person that came across that southern border is indebted to the Mexican cartels and is an indentured servant.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, that’s one thing, and I mentioned this when all of that was going on, and knowing a little bit about that just from Knowing some individuals and then also knowing, you know, some of the individuals that I get to interview here on the program. You know, I realized early on that. Wait a minute. Time out. This is this is running a lot deeper. This is not some humanitarian thing that the left wants to make this out to be. No, this is. In a lot of cases, and probably, you know, I don’t know what the percentage is, but a high number of cases, Ammon, this is simply nothing more than human trafficking, human smuggling. These people come in, they’re indebted. A lot of that money doesn’t stay in the country. It goes right back to the cartel because there’s an indebtedness there. And I know from others that I have known, I’m not going to name names, that if some of that indebtedness doesn’t get paid, family members die, and so on, it’s tragic, Ammon. And this is something that you don’t see on the nightly news.
SPEAKER 04 :
No, none at all. All you see is about family units being separated once again, just like what the first Trump administration was going through. All you’re seeing is that rhetoric. What you’re not seeing is that immigration enforcement is the most humane thing that can be done.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s exactly right, because it ends some of what you and I just mentioned a moment ago.
SPEAKER 04 :
Correct, because they’re not just being exploited by the cartels or CCP triads. or any of those, they’re also being exploited by their federal government, like you just said, through remittances. That is their greatest export is their foreign nationals into our country. They’re being exploited by large corporations also here in the United States, whether that’s Tyson Chicken from that investigation or other organizations, big business, looks for cheap labor. So they’re being exploited. All around. And so the number one humane thing that we can do right now is to conduct immigration enforcement and conduct the rule of law. That is the most humane thing.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s exactly right. All right. So in you guys’ case, you’re doing a great job of getting us out. So the question I have for you, and I don’t think you and I have ever talked about this before. So, you know, first of all, I guess let’s start here. Talk to us about the Texas Public Policy Foundation. Let’s start there.
SPEAKER 04 :
Sure. So we are a state-based organization, conservative think tank here in the state. that conducts policy and research for the state legislature here in Texas, but also for the nation. My campaign is Secure and Sovereign Nation. It used to be Secure and Sovereign Texas, but we are now focused on state-level policies for security and sovereignty issues, but now nationwide. And that is why we actually brought in two of the First Nation chiefs, the Mohawk nations from Canada, down to Texas, because we are now a nation-based and now international-based.
SPEAKER 06 :
Okay, perfect. So, in other words, that was my next question. How do we expand what you guys are doing out to other areas of the country, even other states, for that matter? In other words, are you guys looking at doing other chapters, things along those lines? You know, you guys are doing great work, and you’re one of the sharpest guys, and I’m not saying this just because you’re with me, but you’re with me on a pretty routine basis. You’re one of the… sharpest guys on this that I know am. And so my point is, how do we spread this out? How do we get more people involved?
SPEAKER 04 :
Yeah, great question. So they can either go to our website. We are creating a coalition right now, now that we are now nation-based. We’re going to be going state by state and look at their foundations and what they have and then bringing them with us. We’re also going Canadian-based, like I said. We’re working with now Canadian partners. We’re also working with institutes in the U.K., as well as in Hungary. I was just in Hungary a couple months ago as well. And so we’re looking at making this a global partnership because what we’re seeing is at the 30,000-foot view, a lot of global organizations are tied to whether that’s weaponized mass migration, whether that is allowing foreign terrorist organizations by proxy do their dirty work in our country, whether that’s Tren de Aragua, Cartel de Sons, Mexican cartels, CCP triads, You name it. And so we’re seeing when you take a step back, many of these nations are now facing the same thing that we are, like the Mexican cartels, for example. They’re in 65 other nations. Germany just conducted a counter-Mexican cartel operation on the Poland border. And so when you’re seeing this globally, it’s time to come together and face the facts and reality of the situation and to work that way. And so that’s what we’re doing. We’re trying to build partnerships right now so they can emulate our successes and That’s why we’re bringing in these four Canadian partners down to Texas to see how, at the local level, how we are actually conducting counter-cartel and counter-smuggling operations from each municipality and county.

All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Devers Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. No guests the rest of this hour, so if there’s something you’d like to discuss, something maybe we discussed during Hour 1 with Dr. Kelly, or even what we just discussed with Ammon, be sure to call in 303-477-5600. Jersey Joe in Hour 2, or sorry, Hour 3, top of the hour, will be joining us, and then Scott Garlis switched from Yesterday to today, we’ll be talking about the Fed, the rate cut. Are they done yet? Some of the things that he’s seeing when it comes to all of that and even dispelling some of the myths and things that are surrounding that as well. Scott’s always good and brings a level head to the table. We’ll talk to him next hour as well. All right. Laws. A lot of times, as we know, laws are passed or put into effect, I guess I should say. Bills are passed. They become law. The governor signs them and so on. And they don’t always take effect the day they’re signed. Typically, it happens after that. In this case, there will be some laws going into effect January 1 of 2026. So roughly, what, 19 days or so, 20 days from now. Yeah, 21 days if we’re going to go right to the first. So 21 days. meaning not very far off. So here’s a few, and I didn’t look up all of these. This is an article coming out of a local publication that I get emails on on a regular basis, and I pull some things from all sorts of different sources. This just happens to come from them. So HB 251090. Protection against deceptive pricing practices. The new law says that people can only offer, advertise, and display the price for a good service or property if it’s clearly the total price. There are some exceptions like government charges and shipping charges, but the goal behind the law is to prevent people from misrepresenting the price and to prevent landlords… Key word here. Landowners are making tenants pay extra fees. If this law is violated, people are subject to penalties under the Colorado Consumer Protection Act. So those of you that are in business, you’ll have to be aware of what you’re pricing and does it include everything minus a few of those things. And, again, you’re just going to have to be careful. Now, in most cases, I don’t think for most retailers this is a big deal. You know, sales tax is always going to be extra, so you’re not going to have to include that, of course, because that is a government charge. And, of course, if it’s a special order and there’s X amount of shipping charges on said item, those aren’t going to be included because a lot of times those are specific based upon where is that item going to be delivered. Is it coming to the store? Is it going to you directly? Is it going to your business? So in that case, yeah, those will be excluded. But you won’t be able to, for example, have some sort of a quote-unquote internal use fee that you’re now going to tack on top of whatever it is you’re charging. Is this needed to me? This is another one of those laws that wasn’t needed. I mean, to me, this could have been handled on a case-by-case basis, but some lawmaker decided that we needed a law passed to make sure that somebody out there isn’t taking advantage of somebody else. The whole buyer beware thing has kind of gone out the wayside, and we now need to make sure that, as Marxists do, we’ve got to make sure we’re protecting the consumer because they’re not smart enough to protect themselves. That’s what this law is for, by the way. So just so you all know. HB 251238, gun show requirements. This new act requires gun show promoters to have a security plan and submit that plan to law enforcement. these are my words, not the article’s words, because there’s so many gun show problems that we needed a law for this. In other words, because there’s so many shootings and problems and robberies and so on at gun shows, We needed another law. I’m being sarcastic there because rarely does anything happen at a gun show, but this plan includes safety measures like video surveillance. The act also requires promoters to have liability insurance to prevent anyone under 18 years of old from entering without a guardian and to verify that a purchased firearm complies with the required three-day waiting period. The gun show promoter must also certify that vendors comply with federal, state, and local laws. By the way, They all do this anyways. Now, I don’t know about the video surveillance. That’s another measure that they’re basically shoving on top of what they’re already required to do, in my opinion, in an effort to discourage them from actually having gun shows in the first place. That’s where this law is really headed, is let’s make it so, so arduous for these gun show promoters they just stop doing it. So let’s keep layering on rule after rule after rule, regulation after regulation after regulation, and hopefully they just won’t do it anymore. Which, by the way, they’re not going to because all of these things, other than video surveillance, in that case, I haven’t been to a gun show for a while, but they’re probably doing that anyways. I mean, at the end of the day, again, how many real issues at gun shows do we have? But keep in mind, that’s always a hot topic of the left. They all think that there’s all of this nefarious stuff going on at gun shows and that if you want to go buy a gun illegally, go to a gun show and you’ll be able to buy one. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, if I wanted to go buy a gun illegally, that’d be the last place I’d go. I’m being honest, folks. Those of you that are on the left, a gun show would be the last place I would go to to buy a gun illegally. There’s many, many, many other things you could do to buy a gun illegally besides go there. And I highly doubt, because it’s sort of proven, data shows this, most crimes that are committed, a person either has legitimately gone to a gun store, a gun dealer, and bought the gun that way, or they buy it off the street. In fact, I can’t think of the last time we had some sort of a major crime committed with a gun, mass shooting, whatever, whereby that individual bought that gun at a gun show. Folks, you just don’t read about it. This is, again, this is one of those targets of the left that really doesn’t exist. But it’s a great talking point for them because I’m sure that most liberals, when they walk into a gun show, their head just explodes because it’s table after table after table after table of that sort of item. And then the paraphernalia that goes with it, the accessories that go with it. Most liberals, their head would just explode. How many guns could be in one place at one time? That’s probably what they’re thinking in their mind. Because in their mind, all guns are evil. Really, though, let me make sure that I’m clear on that. That’s not really what they think. What most liberals really think is we have to disarm everybody because we can’t pass our agenda and get it shoved down everybody’s throat when they can defend themselves. Now, that’s not the average liberal, but the guys running the liberal show, that’s what they think. The true Marxists, that’s what they believe. You have to disarm a society before you can control it fully. So that’s why they hate gun shows. SB 25053, 053, protect wild bison. This act classifies bison as big game unless they are livestock, which makes it illegal to hunt or take one unless authorized. The penalty for illegally killing or capturing a bison is a fine of $10,000. I didn’t know we had a bison killing problem in Colorado either. Again, this is another total waste of time of a bill that has become law. It was even a waste of the ink or the computer that was used to even write said bill. This is dumb. Again, this is somebody getting a nice, good, feel-good measure in and probably something they could sponsor that became law so they could then down the road talk about, yep, this is how many successful bills I’ve ran that became law. Frankly, this is nothing more than that because we don’t have a problem. HB 251236, residential tenant screening. This act changes the definition of a portable tenant screening report. or screening report. The Act specifies that a prospective tenant using a housing subsidy isn’t required to provide a credit history report, a credit score, or an adverse credit event with the report. The Act also doesn’t require tenants to make a screening report directly available to a landlord through an agency or a third party website. So, make sure that I’m following this correctly. So, since they’re getting housing subsidies from me, the taxpayer, They’re not required to say whether they’re credit worthy in paying the rent, even though I, as a taxpayer, am subsidizing it. Am I hearing that correctly, Charlie? Basically, that’s what’s being said. I’m summarizing it, but that’s essentially what it says. Since I, as a taxpayer, am subsidizing their rent, they’re not required to tell the landlord if they can pay rent or not. Wow. Did you hear what I just said, folks? This is how Marxist Democrats think. Why would we want somebody proving that they can pay rent because John and Charlie are anyway? So why does it matter whether Joe Smith can actually pay the rent? But this is Marxist mentality and how they think. This is not to protect anybody, by the way. They’re going to come back and say, well, this just protects poor people from making sure that they can go ahead and rent something. No, it isn’t. This is basically telling the landlord, we don’t care anything about you. We don’t care about your property rights. We don’t care about the ownership that you have in this particular establishment. We want to make sure that this person can rent, and if they never pay you, who cares? Take your subsidy and move on. All right, other ones that will be coming into effect, and I didn’t look at each one of these, medical necessity determination insurance coverage. That’s HB 251002. HB 251030 is accessibility standards in building codes. Oh, I can only imagine what that one reads. I probably should go look that one up. meaning more ADA standards when it comes to building codes that do nothing but drive up the price of actually building something. We already have an affordability crisis in Colorado, and all this does is make, and typically this isn’t for residents, it’s for commercial buildings, but as I’ve always said, that cost still gets passed down to you, the consumer, at the end of the day. Hey, John, I think that law that you were reading just before you went to break on the tenant landlord is even more insidious. Because the way I heard you read it, and I might have misunderstood, you can’t run a credit check or use anything in their credit report against them. That’s right. And that’s just what the government is saying, is if we’re paying the rent, you don’t have a right to know who you’re renting to.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s exactly right.
SPEAKER 05 :
That’s exactly what they’re saying. And what if this person, even though the government’s paying, they’ve went bankrupt four times and, you know, They’ve trashed two apartments and been evicted and all that other stuff. They’re saying you can’t use that against them.
SPEAKER 06 :
Correct. You’re 100% correct, John. Yeah. Great point, by the way. In other words, it doesn’t matter what your renting history is like. You could be a complete, utter deadbeat. I, as a landlord, still have to take you as a tenant.
SPEAKER 05 :
Yeah, if they apply, you just got to say nothing available, I guess.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, but here’s the key, though. I mean, unless you’ve got some sort of word from the street, how are you going to know, John? As a landlord, how would you know all that?
SPEAKER 05 :
No, you don’t.
SPEAKER 06 :
You wouldn’t.
SPEAKER 05 :
This is where they’re screwing the landlord again. That’s right. John, so what happens? So now the landlords get more afraid to rent. So they let the apartment lay empty, and now there’s a bigger housing crisis. The ones that are available are a higher rent.

Partially, but keep in mind, John, this is what will probably happen. Great topic, by the way, because this is most likely what will happen. you’ll end up whereby there’s not enough landlords owning these properties. And remember, some of the cities around town have already put in a first right of refusal where if that landlord decides, hey, I’m done, I’m just going to put my place up for sale and move on. Guess who buys it, John? The city does or the government will. So in other words, this is also more of a move to end up with more government owned housing, eliminate the landlord altogether. And again, how do we control the masses? Let’s have everybody living in what we control.
SPEAKER 05 :
Right, and have you ever seen real government-controlled housing or government… I grew up in Brooklyn. We had the projects.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, it ends up being the slums. They end up being just that, a project or a slum or the hood or call it whatever you want to. It’s a disaster.
SPEAKER 05 :
They’re even worse than that. I knew guys on the NY… They wouldn’t go into the projects without about a half a dozen of them.
SPEAKER 06 :
John, there’s, and as you know, and I know some Denver police officers, there’s already places in Denver that are very much that same way already. It’ll do nothing but get worse.
SPEAKER 05 :
Oh, yeah, for sure. But, you know, and every time the government takes over a building and says, we’ll run it, it’s uninhabitable within three to five years.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s right. The answer there is, John, is tell me something government does efficiently.
SPEAKER 05 :
I think the only thing you could say, not efficiently, but effectively, is the military.
SPEAKER 06 :
Correct. Yeah, it’s not efficient. It’s effective. You’re right about that. It is effective. And you know what I mean by that. I’m now on the side of all the servicemen and women. Look at some of the even, quote-unquote, base housing and so on. Is it the Taj Mahal, John?
SPEAKER 05 :
One step above… the project.
SPEAKER 06 :
Thank you. There is your answer. And that’s the answer I was looking for. You’re 100% correct. Yep. You’re 100% correct.

And it’s twofold. It’s run by the government, so getting anything fixed or anything takes forever. But then also, you have some people that are coming from really poor backgrounds, probably didn’t live in anything better than a project, and they don’t know how to maintain a nice place.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. You know what I mean? Yes, I do.

When I was stationed at Fort Hamilton when I was an MP way back when, before I was a mechanic, we used to get the pass keys, and the sergeant major and the first sergeant to the three companies on the base would go and inspect every government quarters once a month so they wouldn’t get in that bad of shape. And, you know, that’s kind of, I lived in housing, I had opened my, I said, well, this is my apartment, because, you know, and I unlocked the door with my own key, and I had a, you know, but they wanted an MP to escort them in, because we had the pass keys for everything. And they would just, whose place is this? Write it up. And, you know, because they were trying to keep it as a, better living standard than what it could have become yep because these were apartment buildings yep there you go i mean this is the government at its worst you got it when and that’s where we’re going to have trouble and it’s coming up here too john it’s just taking a little longer to get this far north you’re right you know you are 100 correct john absolutely have a good rest you too man i know you’re breaking up appreciate you john as always thanks jerry and greeley you’re next

John, you were talking about the anti-gun people earlier. And my workplace, we’ve got quite a variety of different people there. And we talk politics and cultural things. And I’m frequently astounded because we’ve got, I’ve talked to a lot of left-leaning people that You know, they want to tax the rich. They don’t want secure borders. They’re pro-abortion. They hate homeschooling. They’re atheists. They believe the global warming lies. They’re against any drug laws. They’re pro-sexual perversity. But they own personal firearms.
SPEAKER 06 :
Unreal.
SPEAKER 15 :
They can understand the value of that, you know, for defending their own family, their own selves. And when I point that out to them, I say, okay, so you support a party. They almost universally support the Democrats. And I’ll point out to them that they support a party that they can see lies to the public habitually about guns and private hands. And I say, don’t you ever wonder what else they might be lying to you about? I mean, how do you reconcile that? And They don’t. They just dismiss the question, pretty much. And that’s just further confirmation for me that the older I get, the more I come to realize that most people… believe what they want to believe, that their beliefs aren’t based on logic or reason or rationality. It’s emotionally based, primarily.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, and I think, you know, and Jerry, that’s one thing that I think even our side has to be extremely cautious of, and it’s why even on the roundtable I talked this week about the whole, you know, strip club debacle that’s going on in Colorado with, you know, the city of Denver suing strip club establishments because they’re trying to take the Basically, the folks that work there that are currently contractors, they want to turn them into employees. It’s a bigger deal than most people think. I, frankly, look at it completely different than probably most people do because, to me, it’s just one way for government to get into those types of business settings. And once they can get a win here, they’ll just take that on to the next to the next to the next to the next because government wants to control everything and fleece as many people as they possibly can, Jerry.
SPEAKER 15 :
You’re right there. No question about that.
SPEAKER 06 :
And really quick, Jerry, they have no qualms about doing that openly. Yeah, pretty shameless. Yeah, good word. That was a better word than I used. It’s very shameless in how they do it. They’re not even trying to hide it any longer as to what they’re doing. Now, this situation with the strip clubs, they might be a little bit more… How should I say this? They’re being a little bit more – I want to look for the right word. In other words, they’re trying to sneak this in. They think most people aren’t going to pay any attention because both the right and the left hate strip clubs. So, you know, let’s go after them first because if we can get a win here and establish precedence, you know, we can go to all sorts of places, including, you know, hair salons, machine shops, on down the line we go where there’s all sorts of folks that might work there as quote-unquote contractors. That’s exactly what they’re going to be doing, Jerry, as you know. They’re going to get one win and then go after everybody else.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, it never ends.

Again, you can use machine shops, hair salons, nail salons. I mean, Jerry, I can go down the list of all the different types of businesses out there that employ contract labor, and that’s exactly where the city of Denver, which will then morph into other type of agencies going after it as well.
SPEAKER 15 :
Sure, sure. Mission creep.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s exactly right. They’ll just keep working their way. Again, that camel gets its nose under there, and they just keep working farther and farther and farther along. Right. Slippery slope. That’s right. And in this particular case, because it’s strip clubs, everybody’s kind of turning away because they’re like, yeah, we really don’t care about the strip clubs anyways. In fact, if they all went out of business, who would care? And that’s why they’re starting there, Jerry.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, there’s… There’s some devious geniuses on the other side.
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, they are. Like I was talking to Dr. Kelly and Steve House about that, you know, Jerry. Yeah, they are sharp. They are much more calculated in what they do than we are.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah. John, did you ever read the blueprint about how the Gang of Four Policen is?
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, yeah. It’s been years ago, of course, because that’s how old that is now, as you know, Jerry. But, yes, I did. And there’s a video on it as well. Right, Rocky Mountain Heights. That’s right. That’s right. Exactly. Yes. Yeah, for those of you that don’t know about that, go read it, because a lot of what I talk about, Jerry, on a routine basis is exactly from that playbook.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, they’re evil in my opinion.
SPEAKER 06 :
Absolutely, Jerry. Absolutely. And the thing about it is I know there’s folks that are in that group that I don’t know that I personally would say you’re evil, but you sure are siding with the side that is.

Yeah, that’s a good way to put it.

You know, it’s sort of like, Jerry, you know, there’s folks that go to, you know, that believe in Christian values, and they go to church on, you know, Christmas and Easter. It’s called the C&E crowd and so on. And, you know, they may not consider themselves to be, you know, hardcore, you know, born-again believers, but they believe enough in all of that that they associate with it, whereby, you know, they wouldn’t maybe consider themselves a hardcore Christian, although anybody else looking at them would.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 06 :
It’s no different. It’s exactly the same thing, Jerry.
SPEAKER 15 :
I guess just in general, when I try to persuade leftists or liberals, I’ll try to be polite and respectful and courteous and sincere and make my best argument and listen to theirs. But usually it doesn’t take too long when you can figure out that this person, you’re never going to get through to them with a rational argument. You’re right. Their whole identity is wrapped up in being a leftist, for example.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, I think, Jerry – great conversation, by the way. And I think – and we’ve talked about this a little bit in the past, even here in the last few weeks. I think the only thing you can do is, in a very nice, calm, rational way, say, you know, okay, I understand where – your belief is coming from, but are you looking at that because it’s your emotions, or are you looking at that factually? And again, you have to ask that and couch it correctly or you’re going to offend somebody, but you can say it in a way where you can say, listen, I understand where you’re coming from. The question I have for you is, is this a factual basis that you’re coming at this from, or are you doing this from more of the emotional stance? And I just want to know where I stand on that end of things with you, because in a way, it sounds like it’s more of an emotional reaction than it is factual. And if that’s the case, you really should go look at the facts.
SPEAKER 15 :
Sure, yeah. You know, I try to be polite. You have to be.
SPEAKER 06 :
You have to be.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, there’s no benefit in insulting somebody. But I always also try to remember that some of the great heroes in the modern conservative movement started out on the other side. True. Clarence Thomas, he was a Marxist in college. David Horowitz, he was like a serious communist as a young man. And so I guess there’s always hope.
SPEAKER 06 :
No, Jerry, you’re right. And I think for us and I’m glad you said that, because I do feel like for for those of us that are on our side, even a lot of you that are listening to our program, listen to my program on a routine basis. And I can be very dogmatic at times. Keep in mind, Jerry, I’m on air and I can do that. Would I would I talk the way that I do on air to somebody if I was just one on one, you know, having a cup of coffee or something along those lines. Of course not. No, you wouldn’t talk that way, Jerry, in that setting because you want to try to win those folks over. And I do my best even on air to try to take that same approach, although I also want to call out evil is evil and good is good, and we’ll do that on a daily basis. And sometimes even that in and of itself can be offensive. But on air, Jerry, I need to do some of those things. But, yeah, this one-on-one conversation, and you’re doing it correctly, you really have to get to the heart, quote-unquote, the heart of the matter, And you don’t do that by being rude, bombastic, and dogmatic.

All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. I’ve got a few more laws that will go into effect and a full list of them. I may go ahead and push that off to where Andy and I can go through some of those possibly Tuesday together because it would be interesting to get his opinion on some of these. So I may very well do that. Now, one thing that I did notice today, and some of you will actually applaud this. I know I did when I read this, and this is that six more states— have jumped into the ban on junk food purchases with SNAP benefits. We talked a lot about SNAP, oh, I don’t know, probably three weeks or so ago, roughly, I want to say, right before the end of the government shutdown because SNAP benefits were starting to go away and so on. And, of course, that was a big to-do. And we learned through the government shutdown that there’s far too many people on SNAP in the first place, 40 million roughly. some sort of assistance. So the restrictions represent a significant policy shift in how the Federal Nutrition Assistance Program, SNAP, operates, with states now having more control over what items can be purchased with benefits. Frankly, I think they should have a list of items you can buy rather than a list of items you can’t buy. That’s my feeling. And I know, maybe I’m wrong in that thought process, but personally, I think there should be a lot of items purchased restricted on SNAP benefits. In other words, if you’re going to go buy red meat, you should be able to buy hamburger, hamburger only. I don’t think you should be able to buy a steak. Why should my tax dollars be providing somebody with a steak versus ground beef? And I could go down the list of lots of other items along those lines. That’s just one simple example. And again, I think it should be more of, you know, these are the items that you’re allowed to buy versus these are the items you’re not allowed to buy. Because frankly, as taxpayers, I don’t think we should be funding somebody’s extravagant eating habit Nor should they be eating junk food. And, you know, I’m all for them having healthy food, and I’m fine with, you know, doing the around the outer end of the grocery store. I know it’s a little bit more expensive than it is buying internally, but those people would be healthier and they’d be well-fed and so on. Here’s the reality, though. Those items don’t taste as good. Frankly, I highly doubt that most SNAP shoppers are shopping around the perimeter of the grocery store. They’re shopping in the areas that, frankly, I probably don’t shop in because it’s not healthy. And most of your junk food is in the middle of the grocery store. It’s not around the outer edges of the grocery store. And we all know why. Bottom line, these other states, by the way, looks like it’s Hawaii, Missouri, North Dakota, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee will now prohibit SNAP recipients from buying soda, energy drinks, candy, prepared desserts with their benefits. Great. And that’s a short list. It should be much longer. That’s a very short list. But you know what? That’s a great start. I’m fine as a taxpayer starting there and then expanding that further. By the way… And again, I’m not trying to be hard on people that really need assistance, but we should make it uncomfortable. To be on assistance. It shouldn’t be, in my opinion, comfortable. And what I mean by that is, yes, they need fed. Yes, they need the right kind of nourishment. Yes, they need the right kind of food. And I’m all for that. But it should be uncomfortable. In other words, it should be something to where you want to get off it. And by the way, I know there’s individuals that are going to be on it no matter what because of disability and so on. And I’m not talking about them, but they have other things or they should have. other things that would kick in and help them anyway. So I’m not talking about somebody that’s a paraplegic, quadriplegic, somebody that has some other form of disability where they can’t even work fully and so on. I’m not talking – those are people, yes, we should be helping. That’s not who I’m talking about here. I’m talking about individuals that, because they are under a particular threshold of income and have no incentive to make more than that because they get these benefits, let’s just keep our benefits, not work any harder, and we’ll just let John and Charlie and others pay our bills. Those are the people I’m talking about. I’m not talking about the person that really needs assistance, and there are those out there, folks. There’s not 40 million of them, though. I’m sorry. I’ll say that again. There’s not 40 million of them. But that’s how many people we have on some sort of government assistance snap in particular, and that’s far too many. As I’ve said numerous times to other people that I’ve interviewed here, it should be 4 million, not 40. Now, I don’t know the number, and maybe somebody can send me something along these lines. Those that are out there that are truly disabled, you know, they have some sort of a, again, they’re in a wheelchair, they’ve got a problem, they can’t work, whatever the case. Okay, what’s that number? Folks, I don’t know. I would have to do an interview and even find somebody that understands that world and know exactly what that number is. But I can tell you right now, it’s not 10% of the population. 40 million is actually over 10% of the population. We only have about 330 million in the U.S. That includes kids, adults, everybody, 330 million. So 40 million is more than 10% of the U.S. population. So, again, this is a this is a problem. And every time I talk about this, I usually get lots of text messages on it telling me that, you know, I’m correct. And yes, there’s far too many on it. We need to do something about it and so on. And by the way, it looks like we’ve got certain states, six more that have joined in and actually snap. I’m off on my number. It’s 42. It’s 42 million Americans each month. It’s not 40. It’s 42. Once again, far, far, far too many people on it. And my feeling is it’s because we’ve made it far too easy and comfortable to be on said program. I know when I was a kid, you had actual food stamps, and it was extremely embarrassing to go to the store and actually use those stamps as you were checking out.
