Well, good to hear your voice, and hello from the Gulf of America. I want to say hello to all our friends in the Mile High City there, John.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, we appreciate you. AI, we’re going to talk about that today, Scott. You are USA Energy workers. You’re the founding member of that, I should say, or the founder is what I should say. And AI is getting to be a bigger and bigger deal, as we know, and maybe everybody doesn’t know, but I think the majority of people now know, Scott, that AI requires energy. a ton of energy to run it’s not simply putting your pc you know plug it into the wall and letting things roll they are way more sophisticated the demand for energy is huge it’s going to continue to grow so the question i have for you and you know again usa energy workers how do we how are we going to meet that demand
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, first of all, USA Energy workers are ready, right? We understand. We’ve been here. We cannot build a country that we have in the aftermath of World War II without the tremendous USA Energy workers that we have. And when we talk about how we’re going to make it happen, it starts with a pivot. It starts with a pivot that has now happened in the White House. You know, John, when you kind of take a look at where we’ve come from in 2021, in this country, we were in an all-of-government war, right? on American energy. And we now have pivoted to a 2025, all of government support. And that’s the most important thing that can happen. A way to illustrate that, I would share with you, listeners, the two really, really extraordinary things President Trump declaring a national energy emergency, and at the same time also an executive order establishing the National Energy Dominance Council, those two things are going to come to a zip code near you in the way of more affordable energy over time, We went again through this period where we were saying no to everything, and we’ve gone from energy defense to energy offense. And when we talk about AI, when we talk about artificial intelligence, there’s no doubt a revolution upon us. We’re going to have explosive demand growth here in America, and United States electricity demand will surge by anywhere from 35% to 50% between now and 2040. And, John, when we talk about 2040, when we talk about 2040, it seems like a long time.

SPEAKER 18 :
You know, a long ways away. It’s 15 years away, brother.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, it’s not that long.
SPEAKER 18 :
We’ve got to get going. We’ve got to get going.
SPEAKER 15 :
No, you’re right. I’ve been on air here doing my daily show for 11 years, been on air total for about 25. And to your point, Scott, that time rolls by quickly. It’ll be here before you know it.
SPEAKER 18 :
And when we take a look at this national energy emergency order that the president signed, it’s specifically around, again, streamlining the permitting process, expanding domestic production across all energy sectors. Look, I’m an all-of-the-above guy. I’m very proud of the work that we do in the Gulf of America, but I’m for all energy, all sources of energy. Let them stand on their own. Let them compete. Look, we’ve had six recessions from 1973 to 2019 in this country. Each one of those recessions were preceded by a spike in energy prices. As goes our access to affordable energy, so goes our economic performance. It’s not debatable. And so I’m excited about the pivot that we have. And look, I realize how important conservation is to the state of Colorado. I have a tremendous amount of respect. Love visiting there. Your listeners would love to know that the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which was established in 1964, since its establishment, has funded $5.2 billion of projects to support more than 45,000 projects of at least one in every county, and it’s 100% funded by offshore energy revenue. So what we would like to say is that we are bringing royalties to restoration, and a lot of that is going to the state of Colorado and many of our western states that hold so many of our assets. So absolutely, we have to be prepared, I think, to understand that we have an artificial intelligence program revolution among us, right in front of us. In order to be able to take advantage of it, John, we’ve got to be able to build the infrastructure to do it. And, you know, we just got to have some common sense there.
SPEAKER 15 :
Scott, how much more energy is the way I look at it, oil? How much is left or how much more is there in the Gulf? I mean, we hear all these different things. You and I have talked about this in the past when it comes to leases that have been granted, leases that have been shut down, different administrations and so on. But how much energy is still in the Gulf untapped?
SPEAKER 18 :
Well, I would say we’ve been producing the Gulf of Mexico probably since about 1940, 45. In 2019, my last year there in D.C., I think we had the highest offshore production we ever had. This year is going to be higher than that, okay? So, look. So many of our oil fields in this country have been pronounced dead by so-called experts. And then along comes a new wave of technology that gives us a chance to look beneath the earth. And then, boom, we untap it and we rock and roll. Take a look at the Permian Basin in West Texas and New Mexico. Unbelievable. Largest oil field. in America, been around for a long time, wasn’t as prominent as it is now. New technology comes along, and here we go. Look, the American way of using that technology, getting that energy out of the ground, creating jobs, creating advantages in the world economy is the way we roll. And look, the Gulf of America, about one in every six barrels right now in America produced from the Gulf, very, very important. But in addition to that, again, producing revenue that the Congress has dedicated to the Great American Outdoors Act, the Water and Land Conservation Act. So a lot of really positive environmental things.
SPEAKER 08 :
Right.
SPEAKER 18 :
And, again, for you listeners in Colorado to know this, that the Gulf of Mexico has the lowest carbon intensity production of any oil field in America.
SPEAKER 15 :
Wow.
SPEAKER 18 :
The lowest carbon intensity. So a lot of good things.
SPEAKER 15 :
And really, Chris, I want to make sure that we do this because it’s something, you know, most people think of the Gulf as oil, oil only. But, you know, you know of all that there are, you know, There’s 50-plus trillions of cubic feet of natural gas there as well, which, to your point, as far as creating energy and creating electricity even, we here in Colorado, we benefit from this. We’ve got a lot of gas generation facilities here in Colorado. The reality is natural gas is one of the cleanest ways we can produce electricity that there is, and you guys have the ability in the Gulf to provide it.
SPEAKER 18 :
and want to do more and look forward to doing more. We understand that as a member of this union, we have to perform our role. The good Lord has blessed us with abundant resources. If we can get access to those resources, we have the workers who can do it. We want to do it. And you’re absolutely right when we talk about electricity generation, right? Clean natural gas. That’s why this AI center, the best way, the easiest way, the quickest way to build new electrical generation is through natural gas. We know how long nuclear takes. So anyway, we are excited. We understand that we have to balance the three E’s. It is about the blue states at one time, perhaps more about the environment. The red states, more about energy. We believe there’s a purple E. It’s not red or blue. It’s bright purple. It’s called the economy. And if we can balance those threes, we’re on our way. The way to balance those threes is to continue this pivot that we’ve had.

We’ve got Al Smith from Golden Eagle Financial with us in the studio here at KLZ. And Al, I know you’ve been helping people plan for and transitioning through retirement for many, many years, but there are a lot of financial advisors out there. What makes you different?

Well, a lot of advisors spend a lot of their time touting their company and the sophistication of their planning software with AI and algorithms and everything like that. And some of the graphs and projections are useful, but I think it’s more important first to get to know more about the people that you can help. That involves more than growing a nest egg. The conversation often goes in the direction of a passion for giving back. That may involve skiing with disabled skiers up in Winter Park or mission trips with their church or mentoring young people. That may be involving fighting human trafficking. I know one volunteers and goes all over the country. in their motor home to help assist those victims of tornadoes and hurricanes and so forth.

This came out right before coming on air today. Charlie even asked me, hey, did you hear about X? And I’m like, no, I didn’t hear anything about it at all. And again, some of that is because as I’m prepping for the show and so on, in my drive down, I don’t always get to see, and I don’t listen to news on the way down. Maybe… I should, but I don’t. But there is, Trump made an announcement, said that a Israel strike on Iran could very well happen, warning of a possible massive conflict in the Middle East. Now, even with all of that news, I didn’t see many changes in stock market and so on, so we’ll see probably how things go tomorrow. Friday typically tends to be a little bit quieter. of a day and this is all coming off the heels of even the un basically saying yeah um as much as they by the way are usually on the side of iran they aren’t this time they’re basically saying that yeah we can see that they’re developing things that they have they’re not supposed to be they’re violating their agreements and iran is basically saying yeah we don’t care I’m paraphrasing, but essentially they’re like, yeah, we don’t care. We’re going to move things around, do whatever we have to. We’re not going to cease operations when it comes to doing what we need to do to have nuclear weapons. And we’re going to continue to spin things up. And I’m using that in a literal term because that’s what you do when you make what they need to have for either power plants and or bombs. And they’re like, we’re going to continue to spin things up. We don’t care. We’re moving forward. And that’s not going to happen under the Trump White House. I can tell you that right now. We as a country may not interfere, but we will back. Israel, who will interfere and make sure that that does not happen. So I’ll just tell you straight up, it’s not looking good right now because the Iranians, who, by the way, are the largest funder of terrorism in the world, they are looking to have their own nuclear weapons when this is all said and done. And I’m just telling you that right now, currently, they are not stopping. And… As much as you don’t want to see something happen over there in regards to a large-scale war, and I guarantee you Trump will try to do everything possible to not end up there, because you know his feelings on that end of it. He would like to see wars ended, not started. But don’t be surprised if this one doesn’t go sideways when it’s all said and done. Just food for thought. Paul, go ahead, sir.
SPEAKER 06 :
Hey, John. Hey, Paul. I got a story for you. Sure. Yeah. Hi. Got a story for you for DMP that my head’s already exploding. All right. I had to put it back together in order to dial the number. So my father-in-law is 89 years old. And as many people know, Colorado now requires a yearly vision test for those folks, which is fine. So I help them out. I got him the form. He got it all filled out by his optometrist. And I, I worked to submit it online because he doesn’t know anything about computers. So I do that. And, um, And a day later, I get an email rejecting that it’s been rejected. I filled out the form. The form is filled out fine. The doctor says he’s good to go. He meets all the requirements. He doesn’t need glasses, on and on and on. Everything’s fine. I call the number for an explanation because the email says there’s some restriction on the paperwork. I don’t know what that restriction is. They don’t bother to give me any detail. So I’ve got to go through another step, call them. I’ve got to get him on the phone because I’m not authorized. I’m not him. So I’ve got to do it three-way with an 89 hard-of-hearing guy. And they tell me, well, they don’t know. They’ve got to transfer me to another department. I do this rinse and repeat, do the same thing with other people. And they say, well, he has a restriction on his license. Apparently he needs glasses. He’s supposed to drive with glasses. I said, but he got a clear vision test because he had cataract surgery a few years ago. And so now he’s good to go. He no longer needs glasses. And here’s the proof of it. Here’s your own document, your own form, which says he doesn’t need breathing glasses and he meets the minimum requirements. Well, that’s not good enough. You have to come in for in-person and bring all the required documents. But they don’t say what required documents that they don’t already have, they haven’t already given them, that is needed. So I have to make some more phone calls and e-mails. I e-mailed the director, the head person. I found out who that is, and there, hidden e-mail. And they’re very appreciative of all the information I’ve given them, saying, yes, it shouldn’t be this way. It should be what we’re working on, correcting all kinds of stuff having to do with customer experience, on and on and on. And we’re going to give you this person who’s going to help you. So that person contacts me and offers me an expedited appointment. I don’t need an expedited appointment. What are we going to do with that appointment that you already have? Well, apparently nothing. They want their driver’s license technician to give my father-in-law a vision test, something that they already have the results from the licensed professional optometrist.
SPEAKER 15 :
Right, right. That’s redundancy that, I mean, to me, that’s just extra steps that don’t, maybe I’m looking at it wrong, Paul, but that’s extra steps that don’t need to be there. That’s a waste of time, if you ask me.
SPEAKER 06 :
It’s a waste of time for me. It’s a waste of time for them. They already have the critical information. No one is arguing here that those over whatever arbitrary age.
SPEAKER 15 :
I get it.
SPEAKER 06 :
I understand what you’re saying. No one’s arguing about the fee. No one’s arguing that we should provide proof that that division is adequate. That’s fine. I’ve given you all that. There’s no new information that you’re going to get, acquire, by him coming in. So why are we doing this? And the email that I just got today was that it’s irreversible, so he needs to come in. Now, I started drafting… an email to them, and fortunately I held back because I need to take a breath and think about it a little bit more. Yeah, I hear you.
SPEAKER 15 :
I wasn’t going to be rude. Absolutely. No, by the way, cooler heads prevail. Good for you, by the way, Paul.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah. So, you know, because I was telling you about, look, this is an opportunity to correct for my father-in-law. But for all the seniors who there’s some percentage who have to deal with this, it’s fine that you flagged it as there’s some inconsistency here. But the document proves that, you know, what you have to do. Just take care of it. Take care of my father-in-law. Then do a systemic change in the system. coding, or whatever the heck you have to do. But for right now, just get a manager, the head director, which I’ve already opened up, to sign off on how hard it is. So I left a voicemail today with my state senator and my father-in-law, because he lives in Thornton, his state senator, and I left a voicemail with Governor Polis’ office, for constituency help, whatever. And then tonight I’m going to email whatever, 9 News, you know, help us.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go ahead. I would.
SPEAKER 06 :
Good job.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, absolutely.
SPEAKER 06 :
I’m not out any money.
SPEAKER 15 :
No, it’s the principle of it. It’s not the money side. It’s the principle side.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. And I also, you know, I had pointed out to the director at DMV that this… is not meeting their own stated vision and their mission statement. It’s not. So why can’t they pivot?
SPEAKER 15 :
Paul, as you know, unfortunately, there are certain government agencies, DMV, by the way, being one of them, to where when they get going, they dig their heels in and there’s no pivot going to happen. Both heels are dug in. You can’t pivot when both heels are dug in.
SPEAKER 06 :
Well, they want to make the change. It’s just, God, there’s just no way. I know. There’s no way. This is your creation.
SPEAKER 15 :
I know.
SPEAKER 06 :
I know. They have a whole program that they started around COVID to get more people online. Right. That’s right. They’re all happy. about that. So 56% of the people do their transactions online now. Used to be a lot less. That’s great. You’re going in the right directions. Your trajectory is great. It’s good. Now take care of the individual.
SPEAKER 15 :
Absolutely. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 06 :
then you shouldn’t be taking our money for anything, for God’s sake.
SPEAKER 15 :
I agree with you. I agree. Well, by the way, you’ve done the right things. I mean, everything you’ve done is what I would have suggested you do, and I think even your last step in calling some of the local news stations, because they know that is a huge percentage of their audience. So I think, by the way, that’s probably the one that will get you the most when it’s all said and done.
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s true. The governor is probably going to send me some Yahoo.
SPEAKER 15 :
That’s right. No, the news station will do as much for you as anybody.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, they’re going to drag an 89-year-old in. Now, would I prefer my father-in-law, who’s 89, not to drive? Well, there are thousands and thousands of people in Colorado that are much, much younger drivers. that I would like off the road before him. Yeah, thank you.
SPEAKER 15 :
I’ve got family members that are very much the same, Paul. I can agree with you. Family members like your father-in-law that, yeah, I would rather have them on the road than some of the others. So I’m with you. I’m fine with that.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. And can I get them to the driver’s DMV? Sure. By the way, when I tried to make an appointment, And they’re not. You’re right. Of course not. And then I think about, well, you know, a private business, gee, if you’re charging people in a private enterprise for services and you’re that far out in being a private service… You add staffing. You add staffing. Exactly. Gee, how hard is that?
SPEAKER 15 :
It’s not, Paul. You know, I coach on this stuff all the time. You add more staffing if you’re that way.
SPEAKER 06 :
How is this…
SPEAKER 15 :
Because it’s government, not private, Paul, to your point. If we had privatized that, it would change overnight.
SPEAKER 06 :
It just drives me nuts.
SPEAKER 15 :
It’s frustrating. I feel your pain, Paul. It is very frustrating. It doesn’t need to be that way.
SPEAKER 06 :
It doesn’t. It’s not hard to do. No. It’s not moving Everest, you know. No, especially in this case. This one’s easy.
SPEAKER 15 :
I mean, this one is a piece. This is a walk in the park, Paul.
SPEAKER 06 :
Right. So I’m going to reformulate this email and I say asterisk it and say specifically to the director, you know the whole situation. I want you, not your staff person, I want you to sign off on this so my father-in-law doesn’t have to go. If you can’t do it, there’s a bigger problem in the state that I can’t even imagine. If the head of the DMV can’t approve a renewal to deal with this nonsense internal stuff, you shouldn’t be in that position. Absolutely. Because I don’t think there’s any law that says that he can’t have a renewed driver’s license. The rest of it is all internal processes that you’ve created as mostly obstacles as compared to getting the information that you legitimately need and taking care of business. That’s how I’m viewing it. And I don’t know how the state senators would view it. I’m sure I know how they would view it, but what they can do. You would think that they would have some pull on this.
SPEAKER 15 :
You would sure think so. Well, again, find out what goes on. Give me an update. I’d love to hear back whether that’s you calling back in or even just sending me an email. Either way, I’d like to know what happens.

Hey, so I caught the tail end of Paul. Is he having an issue with the DMV here in Colorado?

With his father-in-law, who’s 89, who doesn’t require any longer to have corrective lenses because he had cataract surgery, so it’s no longer a requirement for him. But DMV doesn’t seem to understand that, even with letters and documentation from Paul’s father-in-law’s eye doctor.

Wow. Yeah. So I got… Two states. They both start with an M, and the DMVs, those states. So I bought a boat from Missouri, needed to get the trailer titled, and I bought a boat not in Missouri. I bought these boats. They’re from Missouri and from Minnesota. So I sent in Minnesota. They don’t title their trailers, or they have a permanent sticker. So I sent in the request to get the VIN number or registration, and they said I had to pay sales tax. in order to do that. Now, it was a private party transaction, and the boat was bought in Colorado, or delivered to Colorado and bought in Colorado. So now I’ve got to send them a note that says, I don’t owe you guys any sales tax. Please give me my title. And then Missouri.
SPEAKER 15 :
I’ve got to make sure I’m following correctly. So you’re registering essentially the boat trailer in Colorado, and it came from Missouri? Yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, one came from Missouri and one came from Minnesota.
SPEAKER 15 :
You owe sales tax in Colorado on both.
SPEAKER 07 :
I know, I know, but the other states don’t seem to understand that. So the other one in Missouri… So what are the other states… I’m not following.
SPEAKER 15 :
What are the other states doing? Because I’m confused as to what their part of this is.
SPEAKER 07 :
So they want me to pay sales tax in Minnesota. Oh, yeah, no.
SPEAKER 15 :
They don’t understand… Yeah, no.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, they don’t understand that I don’t pay… sales tax in minnesota i paid in colorado that’s right now missouri they have indicated that the person who owned it previously needs to pay uh the title uh a title fee to them even though The boat was purchased in Colorado or delivered and purchased in Colorado.
SPEAKER 15 :
Unless both of those states do things far different than we do in Colorado, and I would have to dig in and determine that, Dan, but I believe you are correct. No, you should not have, nor should anybody. have to pay anything in those two states. Everything now comes into Colorado. You’ll get a new Colorado, as you know, you’ll get a new Colorado title after jumping through the hoops here. You’ve got to get VIN verification and so on, which you know about. But once all that’s done, you’ll have a Colorado title eliminating anything from those other two states. I don’t see how they have a single thing to say about it.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, what they want is their money is what they want. Of course. It boils down to money. And it’s like, well, you guys need to follow the laws of your state and the laws of Colorado. And that’s the wasn’t a wayfarer or Mayfair or whatever decision. Remember that Supreme Court decision that happened several years ago where. you had to pay sales tax for the delivery address.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, I think, but that’s only, I mean, that’s outside of the motor vehicle end of things as far as I know, Dan. I don’t think that affects anything on the vehicle side because it’s totally different. It’s been its own thing forever anyways.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I know. So it’s just the DMVs, and then, you know, I live in Gilpin County. We’re a small county, and if I have to do a DMV transaction, I have to make an appointment, and they only allow two transactions per appointment. So somebody like you probably has multiple vehicles to register and everything. You can only do two of them at one time. Interesting.
SPEAKER 15 :
Huh. Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. And that all started during COVID.
SPEAKER 15 :
Interesting.
SPEAKER 07 :
So I walk in there, and they block half-hour time blocks. So I take up Well, Monday it took a little bit, or Wednesday it took a little bit longer because we were trying to figure out how to figure out the Missouri title thing. So that probably took 15 minutes. But most of the time, I go in there, if I have two transactions, it takes less than 10 minutes.
SPEAKER 15 :
So what, and I’m looking really quick. I went ahead and looked at Michigan, for example. I went up, I went and looked at… Yeah, Minnesota.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, Minnesota, not Minnesota.
SPEAKER 15 :
So Michigan, sorry, my bad. Sorry, neighbors, my bad.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and they both start with M’s.
SPEAKER 15 :
Some of them have reciprocable states, like Michigan. There’s other states that participate in their sales tax, Colorado not being one of them. So I wanted to look at – now I’ll look at Minnesota. I don’t see – okay, so bottom line, I’m confused as to the DMV here. Who are they contacting, and why do they care what’s going on in Missouri? They ought to be able to just rubber stamp that thing and roll it through. I’m confused, Dan.
SPEAKER 07 :
I am, too, because I filled out their form. I went on their website, filled out their form to request title, and I thought, well, they want a title fee, so I paid the title fee, and they sent my check back, and they said, you need to pay sales tax.
SPEAKER 15 :
So maybe this is where things are off. You ought to be able to take your Missouri title that has been signed correctly according to Missouri, because every state does that a little bit differently. Some need notarized, some don’t. But as long as all that is done… is handled correctly and the transfer of title is set to go to you, you ought to just be able to go to DMV here in Colorado. You might have to have a bail of sale. It’s not always a requirement, but you may have to have one. But if you have all of that, it ought to just roll through. You’ll need a VIN verification here in Colorado.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, I mean, it’s simple, right? Right. There’s nothing difficult about this.
SPEAKER 15 :
In other words, personally, you shouldn’t have to do anything in Missouri at all.
SPEAKER 07 :
I know, but… It’s silly because… So who told you you had to contact Missouri? This is… I sent stuff into Missouri and they sent my information back.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, you shouldn’t. And I would have never sent them anything in the first place. You don’t owe them anything.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, I had to… No, I had to request the title from them. Because we don’t have the title.
SPEAKER 15 :
So who owned it in Missouri, you or somebody else?
SPEAKER 07 :
The estate owned it.
SPEAKER 15 :
Okay, the estate owned it in Missouri.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and they didn’t have the title.

So you’re getting a duplicate title in Missouri is what you’re telling me.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m requesting a duplicate title.

And they say that the previous owner has to pay the… tax or whatever on the title before they will release the title to me.
SPEAKER 15 :
Was there a previous tax? Oh, that’s where I’m confused. Was there something owed that we don’t know about?
SPEAKER 07 :
No, no. They just want their tax.
SPEAKER 15 :
I see.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s like, that’s not, you know, that’s the estate. Missouri, you have to pay use tax on everything. Gotcha. On personal items and everything. It’s every December you owe use tax on all your properties. you know, vehicles, your recreational vehicles. And so apparently the estate didn’t pay the tax.
SPEAKER 15 :
So they’re looking for the past use tax is what they’re looking for.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, and they’re not willing to release the title to me. And I’m like, that’s not my problem.
SPEAKER 15 :
It is now.
SPEAKER 07 :
I know, but anyway.
SPEAKER 15 :
It is now. Sorry, I’m laughing with you, not at you, but it is now.
SPEAKER 07 :
Well, if anything, we’ll do a… What is it when you don’t have a title and you get a… you’re probably more familiar with it being in a vehicle where you don’t have a title, but they come out and they give you a title. They inspect the bin and everything else, and then they issue a title.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, that typically you can do like abandoned vehicles and things along those lines, but in your case, given that there is a current title in another state, that’s not going to fly because they’ll do a nationwide search, and, yeah, that’s not going to fly for you. Either way, you’re going to end up paying that tax no matter what. I hate to say that, Dan.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, one way or the other, which is stupid because I don’t live in Missouri.
SPEAKER 15 :
You’re going to pay it no matter what.
SPEAKER 07 :
And then the DMV here said that maybe we can just bond it, do a bonding process.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, but that’s going to come back. Unfortunately, because of this money still being owed there, what the bond does is pays for something along those lines. So what you pay for the bond, you might as well just go pay what’s owed on that, which can’t be much on Missouri on the trailer itself. It can’t be a whole lot of money. I would just pay it and get the title and be done with it.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’m just calling to say how asinine these states are.
SPEAKER 15 :
Oh, they can be. Oh, absolutely. And really quick, and this is a topic I should cover. Maybe I’ll throw this into Saturday’s topics for Drive Radio. But, yeah, out-of-state title things can be extremely, extremely cumbersome. And everybody thinks it’s a real walk in the park to have an out-of-state title redone here in Colorado. Yeah, not so fast. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, so my dad gave me a truck. He’s in Arizona. He signed the title and a bill of sale showing that it was a gift, which I’m not going to be around Saturday, so I probably ought to call in. It’s a Duramax Diesel 2019. I like using BG products for the fuel treatment.

So I don’t know which one, if you know which one I need to get for it.
SPEAKER 15 :
I might be able to look that up really quick. You’re just looking for the fuel treatment on the diesel side is what you’re looking for, right? Yep, yep, exactly. I can look really quick for you, not a problem. I can do this. They make a 245 premium diesel fuel cleaner. That’s their fuel cleaner. And then their DFC Plus is what you would just use all the time. All right, this is a topic that I wasn’t going to talk about, but I’ve had enough people that have asked questions on it. And those of you that live in Douglas County of late, and I believe there was a… And again, I don’t live in Douglas County, so don’t quote me on this, but I think… There either is now or has been a vote cast, and I’m sorry that I just don’t keep up on Douglas County. If somebody wants to text me, let me know if and when the Douglas County voters are deciding on whether to approve a home rule charter commission. It might even be going on as we speak. It may not be totally done. The vote may have already happened. Again, I don’t keep track of… what’s going on outside of my own county. It’s hard enough to keep track of what’s going on in some of my own county, nonetheless the other counties. So I apologize. I don’t keep up on every single county and what’s going on in it. And this one I haven’t really kept up on because, frankly, I don’t have a – I don’t have a dog in the fight. Some of you do that are in Douglas County, and I get it. Douglas County is really big. But it’s a decision on whether or not to go to the home rule end of things. And some of you even asked me, is that a good thing? Is it a bad thing? And my answer back, and I’ll just stand by this answer, it depends. And it depends on lots of factors. And this is true for any city that would want to decide to become home rule. And what does home rule mean? Let me just start there. So home rule is a form of local government. I pulled this off of the Internet, so I’m using their words, not mine. But it’s a form of local government that grants a municipality the power to manage. its own affairs without requiring state government permission or approval in matters of local concern. So, in other words, home rule means we as a city, we can set our own rules, our own laws here for us. Now, they can’t violate a state rule, of course, just like a state rule can’t violate a federal rule, and there’s always differences of opinions, and this is where you get into court cases and lawsuits and so on as to did the state overstep its bounds, sort of like gun laws. Did what we just do is what we just did, I should say, here in Colorado with the last legislative session. Is it even legal as far as all of those go? Home rule can become the same thing. And that’s some of the risks you run in having home rule versus non-home rule is if you decide as a city, you’re going to create some things that are outside of the parameters of what’s going on inside of the state itself. Well, you could end up in a lawsuit. Because somebody could come in and say, wait a minute, you can’t do that because that goes against our own state laws, our own state charter, not just what’s going on here in town. So that’s the risk you run in a home rule city. Now, the plus side, though, is you can actually potentially do some things for your city and your county that you might not be able because typically it can go either way. It can be home rule city, home rule county. And home rule means you’re going to come up with your own set of rules that that work just for you that might be outside of what’s going on in the state itself. And this is where it gets a little bit dicey. And when somebody asked me, is it a good thing or a bad thing, my answer was it depends. And what it really depends on is who’s running things. Is it very liberal or is it very conservative? Because you could get a bunch of liberals in charge that take over, that just take this home rule thing to a whole other level, and you end up like Boulder. And I use Boulder as an example. You end up with a bunch of nut jobs that are running Boulder that are doing it in a way that in a lot of cases, there’s lawsuits that happen there all the time because they go out and do things that, frankly, aren’t cool. They’re not lawful, quote-unquote. On the same token, you could have a bunch of conservatives running home rule that establish things very well. And they’ve set some good, you know, they put in some good laws, rules and so on that actually help the city become better at the end of the day, not worse. So when somebody said, is it a good thing? My answer was, it depends. So I again, I don’t have a dog in the fight. And even some that this is becoming very controversial, even inside of our own party, home rule or not. And, again, my feeling is it can go both ways. So even for a conservative to come out and say, oh, it’s bad, it’s awful, or, hey, it’s the best thing since sliced bread, no, neither one of those answers is true, by the way. It can go either direction, all depending upon, by the way, who’s in charge. That’s really what it boils down to with home rule is who is in charge and who’s in charge of the rules. OK, that’s that’s the best way for me to say is home rule a good thing or not. It depends on who’s in charge of the rules at any given point in time. And that’s where home rule could be really advantageous and set you apart from what’s happening in the rest of the state. Or that could backfire and go the other direction and have you doing things that are outside of what’s going on in the rest of the state. But just depends on who’s in charge. So I’ve had that come in from a few of you as listeners that are in the Douglas County area. In which direction should I be voting and not voting? And I can’t say one way or the other, nor have I. You have to do your own research and determine which direction should you vote. Because, again, I don’t have a dog in the fight. Don’t care really one way or the other. Maybe I should, but I don’t. I’m just being straight up honest. And the reason I don’t care is because it comes back down to who’s in charge of the home rule at any given point in time moving forward. That’s the risk you run in going to home rule. There are benefits. I’m not going to tell you that there aren’t benefits because there are benefits. You can address, by the way, certain local zoning and land use things and do some things differently that would be outside of what the state has already governed on, by the way. And that may be a benefit to that particular home rule city. You’ve got more flexibility. You can put some things in place that tailor things to, you know, your city when it comes to things that are set in regards to all sorts of things, emergency services and so on. You can do some things differently that would be outside of what is already set in place. by the state. You can have a more diverse revenue source as far as working with inside property taxes and sales taxes and so on. Again, doing things locally inside of your own home rule that can even have things to do with your credit worthiness and so on. And I don’t want to get into the weeds, but when you’re doing other things where you’re issuing bonds and so on, there can be a negative or positive effect depending upon how things are going in home rule. And I know that’s getting off into the weeds, but these are the things that can affect or have a byproduct of the home rule end of things as a city. So, you know, you can’t just say that it’s all great. You can’t also just say that it’s all bad because it really does depend upon who’s running things at that time. And what I mean by it’s not always bad is Because there are some good I just mentioned a moment ago. Now, the bad side is you set something in place that is fought, and now you’re defending that. There’s a lot of legal fees and so on. That’s where home rule can get really dicey and can cost your city a lot of money if those that are in charge are not doing things correctly, much like we just went through the last legislative session here in Colorado, and we had a bunch of knuckleheads pass laws that are now going to be challenged. That means we as taxpayers are on the hook to paying for all of that. And for a lot of us as conservatives, you’re going to pay twice. You’re going to donate to those organizations that are fighting, you know, that want those lawsuits that are fighting it. And as a taxpayer, you’re going to now fight against yourself with your own tax dollars. It’s a mess when those things happen. That’s the downside of the legal ramifications of some of these particular decisions, home rule being one of them. Now, again, where do I stand when it comes to home rule? Folks, it’s like a lot of things. My own accountant, I’ll ask him certain questions about certain tax things, and he’ll say, it depends. Actually, what he really says is, put on your depends. That’s what he says. It depends on what’s happening in certain circumstances as to what the actual outcome and answer is, because there’s too many variables going into it to make a direct distinction of yes or no. These are the right answers. So that’s been my answer when it comes to home rule in Douglas County. It really depends at the end of the day. Now, what doesn’t depend? When it comes to your roof and the repair of is don’t call your insurance company because that doesn’t depend on anything.
