SPEAKER 26 :
Putting reason into your afternoon drive, this is John Rush.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, we are back. Rush to Reason, Denver’s Afternoon Rush, KLZ 560. Richard, are you with us? You bet I am. All right, so NFL picks, not that many for the weekend because we’re getting it down to one last week is all.
SPEAKER 08 :
We’re down to the best of the best. Richard, are you ready? I am ready, Andy. Okay, now Richard, really quick, I want to mention that all four, I’ve never seen this before, all four games last weekend in the playoffs were won by the team that had fewer yards. So the team that racked up the yards, and usually a lot more yards, lost. And I can understand that if you’re just padding your yards in the fourth quarter because they’re in prevent and you’re trying to come back. But that’s not the way it was, Richard. You had teams that were just, they were moving up and down the field, and then they’d throw an interception. They were moving up and down the field, and then they’d drop the key pass. They were moving up and down the field, and then they’d, you know, fumble it away. While the teams that won were the clutch teams. Did you notice this?
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, Andy, that seems to be the – I’m with you. It seems to be the theme of the divisional round last week. Yeah. Obviously, looking back on it, all of the games were that way. I have not – Teams didn’t win, but it’s the teams that made the fewest mistakes, right? You look at each game, even the Lions, right? They just made mistakes against the commanders to allow them to stay in it. The Texans made mistakes. The Chiefs, obviously. The Eagles – Oh, I forget even who the Eagles were playing now, Andy. But help me out. Who did they play last week? The Eagles?
SPEAKER 08 :
Jeez, who did they beat up? Actually, it was close. The Rams. The Rams made a game out of it. It was all defense on both sides. Sack, sack, sack, sack, sack. It was fun.
SPEAKER 15 :
It was, but at the end, the Rams made mistakes, right? Matt Stafford lets the ball slip out of his hands, doesn’t make that play. The Rams give us a big play to Saquon, and then obviously the— You know, the Bills-Ravens game, the Ravens sort of shot themselves in the foot multiple times, right? And so I think that carrying that, Andy, to that point, it’s a great point. I think carrying that into Championship Sunday, because it’s not the Super Bowl yet, but carrying it into Championship Sunday, it’s a big deal because I think the teams, and that’s usually what happens in the playoffs, right, Andy? The teams that make the fewest mistakes usually advance. And especially against both of these games, and I know we’ll talk about them, there’s one team in each matchup I think that they tend to force the other team to make mistakes, right? They themselves don’t make mistakes, so it’ll be interesting to see how that’s counteracted.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, I mean, we saw an entire weekend last weekend. It wasn’t win, it was don’t lose. And that’s how you win. I’ve just never seen that before. Really quick here, before we get to these games, I want to talk about the Lions and Jared Goff. Because now I understand why the Lions lost. I thought they were the best team. And then I found out right before the game, they still had half their defense out. I thought they were going to have several back. But, you know, I still thought they would have won. Jared Goff. Jared Goff was clearly in the running for MVP this year. He tore the league apart. He had incredible stats. The Lions just blew through every team. But everybody knew not only did he have some really good targets, but more importantly, that great offensive line, that ring of iron around him. The guy had all the kind of time in the world. He was not challenged. Finally, Washington challenged him. Not just by coming after him with their pass rush. They didn’t get to him very much. I mean, the Lions still put up 520 yards. I mean, because of that offensive line. However… Jaden Daniels on the other side was unstoppable. And Jared Goff was in the unusual position of seeing somebody around on the other side of the field who was simply more man than him. And he fell apart. What does this mean for Jared Goff going forward? If you can have a line that good and you still can’t keep up with Jaden Daniels.
SPEAKER 15 :
I mean, he’s the same. No offense. He’s the same guy that he was in L.A. Agreed. Do I think you can win a Super Bowl with Jared Goff? Yes. I think that he’s a guy that can, I’ll just say it, manage his way to a Super Bowl. He’s pinpoint accurate a lot of the time. He knows what to do. But at the same time, you put some pressure in his face. It comes down to it. He’s going to make an errant throw. He’s going to make the mistake. And so, again, I think the Lions were built for it, but they were a team where they have to have a healthy defense, right? You’ve got to have Aiden Hutchinson, and you’ve got to have some of those other components to be able to put pressure on the other team to where they make a mistake, and then they can come in with their offense, with their weapons, with that offensive line. grind the game, make their big plays. But he’s kind of the guy that he’s always been, Andy, right? That’s who he was in L.A. when they went to the Super Bowl. He’s the guy that won’t necessarily make, he won’t make a lot of mistakes as long as he’s playing within himself. Once he tries to play outside of himself, He makes mistakes, which we’re going to talk about here in a second, is the key for two quarterbacks mainly in this championship Sunday is playing within themselves.
SPEAKER 08 :
I agree. And by the way, what you just described was Trent Dilfer, Phil Simms. Haas-Settler, right? You got to have everything around you, then you can win. Okay, let’s get to these games. We’ll do them quick here. You got the Bills at the Chiefs now. Both of these teams forced their opponent last week to make all the mistakes. The Chiefs have been doing it all year. Can they do it again? They’re favored by one and a half.
SPEAKER 15 :
Which, by the way, Andy, I love that they’re favored because now the Chiefs can’t say, oh, we’re the underdog, this, that, and the other, right? They can’t pull that garbage that they like to do. Yeah, Andy, the Chiefs, to me, they’re not a very strong offensive team, which is crazy to say with Patrick Mahomes, right? They’re just very… they’re adept at making the most of situations, right? You give them – their defense gives them a short field or their special teams make a play, right? They’re going to make you pay. Or in the case of Patrick Mahomes, you give him four minutes, that dude’s going to find Travis Kelsey on third and seven. Right. He’s going to find a hole and they’re going to gain eight yards or seven and a half yards, right? They’re just going to make that next level play. They’re clutch. Now to – They are very, very clutch. Now, the other quarterback on the other side in the Bills, Andy, Josh Allen is what we were talking about, Jared Goff. Now, I think Josh Allen is a far superior quarterback to Jared Goff, and I think that he’s having an insane year. However, I just hope that Josh of years past does not come back. through, right, where he just tries to do everything. Now, I think he can. I think he’s going to have to will his team to victory a little bit because I think, Andy, in order to beat the Chiefs, you’ve got to either have the ball last or be up by two possessions. I agree. Because if you are only up by a single score, whether that be four points, eight points, whatever it is, and Patrick Mahomes has the ball last, he will go down and score. I would bet a mortgage that he will do that. So I think what the Bills did to the Chiefs in Week 11 is what they’re going to have to do now, which is basically they’re going to have to be up by 10 with one possession with a minute on the clock. That’s what they’re going to have to do in order to beat this team, just because I don’t trust Mahomes to beat himself, to make a mistake. Now, Andy, saying that, I think that the only offense that the Chiefs have is Mahomes and Kelsey. And Kelsey is just going to find that zone, and he’s going to sit down. So to that I say, can Josh Allen play within himself? The Bills are really good at running the ball. They spread the ball around really well. There’s not one weapon that you can take away from Josh Allen. I think they’ve got a really good chance, Andy, and I think – I’m going to speak it into existence. I don’t believe in jinxes, all of the other stuff. I think this is the year for the last, what, 34 years or something that it’s been since Buffalo’s been to the Super Bowl that Buffalo makes it back. I think that Kansas City, they’re just, to me, Andy, they just have too many holes for this to not be their year. Now, I say that to say they’re in the AFC Championship game for the seventh straight year, so obviously they know how to patch their holes. But this just feels like it’s the Bills’ time to come in and make a name for themselves.
SPEAKER 08 :
I agree. I’m going to take the Bills. And the big reason for me is their defense, which has been average all year, has been way above average in the playoffs. It’s been shocking. What they did with their defense to the Broncos was shocking. What they did with their defense to Baltimore was shocking. They really held them down. And I think the Chiefs will hold down their running game because the Chiefs are very tough against the run. I don’t think it’ll be enough. I think the Bills beat them. And I think it’s just like you said, they got to be up by more than two scores. They will. All right, next game, the Commanders. Ho-ho! The most exciting player on the planet right now. Jaden Daniels, they’re going into the Eagles. Now, the Eagles are favored by six, though, and let’s face it, Richard, the Eagles are not missing half their defense like Detroit.
SPEAKER 15 :
No, and Andy, these rides are fun, right? With this young quarterback, with a talented team, or I should say a young team, right? You know, not… amazingly talented yet, but these rides are fun, and they make for really great storylines and all sorts of things. I would say I think that this game can be fun and exciting. I don’t think the weather is going to impact it terribly. I think it’s going to be cold, which will be interesting with Jaden Daniels because he played, obviously he played in Tampa his first round, and then he played in a dome last round. So this will be his first, whether it’s snowing or not, it’s going to be cold. And he’s a, you know, he’s a Southern. I’ll just say, you know, he’s SEC Pac-12 football. He’s not necessarily used to Colts. So I’ll be curious how that plays, Andy. But Jalen Hurts is the other quarterback I mentioned before. Josh Allen needs to play within himself. I think he’s superior. I think Jalen Hurts is similar in talent to Jared Goff, although he’s a much more athletic version. I agree. Can Jalen Hurts play within himself, not make the big mistakes? Because I think that Washington defense is opportunistic, right? I don’t think there’s, you know, Super talented one way or another. I just think they’re an opportunistic defense. But as long as they play within themselves, they let their offensive line take over. They let Saquon run as he should. Jalen makes some plays with his legs. He makes some key throws when they get into the red zone. Honestly, Andy, the Eagles should handle this team without much issue. I think it’ll be exciting for a little bit if they should handle them. But… Jaden Daniels does give you pause, but he doesn’t give me enough pause to say, I think that they’re going to just, just cause again, I think these stories usually end with, Well, not come crashing down, but they just kind of have a hard landing most of the time. So I think that happens now. I do like Washington. I like the trajectory they’re on. I just think the Eagles are a little bit more seasoned of a team. I think they know where they’re going. They know how to win. And I think they’re motivated. I think they’re a motivated team to show that they belong.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, I’ll say this. This game, even though they’ve got a super athletic young quarterback that’s totally different, this really reminds me of the Raiders going into the Super Bowl against Tampa Bay a number of years ago. Going into that game, I told everybody there is absolutely no way I can conceive of the Raiders winning. They have never seen the kind of defensive speed they are about to witness. Never. Okay, now these two teams have seen each other twice already, so they have seen it. Still, it’s shocking. The speed of that Philly defense is just shocking. I think Jaden Daniels is going to get hit more times than he can count. And I think that Saquon Barkley is going to put up some yards. I’ll take the Eagles by 10. There you go.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. All right. Let’s do this because I know Richard’s got to go here in about 20 minutes or so. So let’s move right into movies. Andy, you can start round one. Oh, okay. Movies with spies or spy movies. I have a couple of text messages come in. Keep those rolling, by the way. 307-282-22. But round one. Here we go.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. We’ve got to start with the best one of all time easily, and that’s Austin Powers. And one of my favorite characters, Fat Pastor. Here we go.
SPEAKER 14 :
I am. Can I have a hug? That has to be.
SPEAKER 07 :
One of Mike Myers’ best performances ever. Oh, gosh. Am I not right?
SPEAKER 08 :
So many great characters in the same movies. It was… All by him. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
Juicy Andy, yes. One of the best spy movies. I’m not sure it’s the best, but one of the best.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, it had the best action, that’s for sure. And special effects, all of it. I mean, I was on the edge of my seat.
SPEAKER 15 :
Absolutely. Edge of your seat, gotcha. You actually mentioned it earlier when talking about movies that are coming up, and he is one of the best spies ever, and that is Mission Impossible.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, yeah. Oh, yes. Absolutely. And let’s see here. I do, and by the way, it’s from the last one. Is that okay? Yeah, go for it. Okay, here we go. Right now he’s on a motorcycle looking out over a ravine, and he’s talking to Benji.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yes. I see the train. What about it? And you have a parachute. Got a parachute? What do you expect me to do? Well, just, you know, jump. Jump?
SPEAKER 20 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 12 :
Benji, it doesn’t work like that. I’m not that high. There’s ledges sticking out everywhere. I’m going to hit them before the parachute even opens. Benji, even if I could get the parachute open, I don’t know if I can make it across the valley and intercept and land safely on a moving train.
SPEAKER 11 :
Do you copy? Yes, I copy. Look, I’m just trying to help you, okay? I need you to take a step back and pull yourself together because I am under a lot of pressure right now.
SPEAKER 08 :
I’ll just stop it there. That’s good. At that point, he’s just looking like, what?
SPEAKER 06 :
That’s hilarious.
SPEAKER 08 :
I thought it was a great scene, and I thought it was one of the greatest stunts I’ve ever seen. Richard? Very good. Yep. That was dead reckoning, by the way. Go ahead, John.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, so mine will be, gosh, there’s so many. Let’s do one that most people don’t think of a spy movie, but it is Inception.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, I did not think of that.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. All right, let’s, John from Cheyenne next. Go ahead, John.
SPEAKER 17 :
Hey, guys, how are you? Good. Good. I didn’t hear you guys, either of you guys, real quick mention how much the referees are going to pay in the game.
SPEAKER 08 :
I have been enjoying all the gifts with the refs wearing Chiefs outfits. It’s been pretty fun.
SPEAKER 17 :
I think. I don’t think they’ll be a big fan. You don’t think so? No. I think if they give Mahomes one of those real bad calls like in the last game, that somebody should light him up like Lawrence Taylor used to light up quarterbacks. Let him see what really getting hit is right.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, it could happen. I’m sorry.
SPEAKER 17 :
That would be the way to get him to stop whining is really light him up. But I don’t.
SPEAKER 07 :
We shall see.
SPEAKER 17 :
Movies. Huh?
SPEAKER 07 :
Movies.
SPEAKER 17 :
Two classic spy movies that some people don’t think are. One is North by Northwest. Oh, yeah. Awesome. And then the other one is Gaslight.
SPEAKER 08 :
That one I didn’t think of.
SPEAKER 17 :
That is, you know, nothing better than Claude Rains playing a bad guy. in a movie. He’s a classic actor. And so, yeah, you can’t go wrong with Hitchcock. They’re always worth another watch.
SPEAKER 07 :
Good point.
SPEAKER 17 :
I like it. Have a good day.
SPEAKER 07 :
Thanks, man. Appreciate you very much. All right. You’re up, Andy. Okay. Here’s the, uh, born identity.
SPEAKER 13 :
Who can do this?
SPEAKER 10 :
I don’t know.
SPEAKER 13 :
This is from yesterday. How can they even know that we’re together?
SPEAKER 10 :
Look, I’m just, I’m trying to do the right thing for you, okay? Just, that’s all I’m trying to do.
SPEAKER 24 :
How are you going to make this right? By sending me there alone?
SPEAKER 10 :
You think I want you to go to the cops? You think that’s good for me? You want to go fight. If you go to the cops, I got to run.
SPEAKER 24 :
You don’t tell them what happened.
SPEAKER 10 :
I don’t know what happened. I don’t know who this guy was. I don’t know about that picture. I don’t know who I am.
SPEAKER 08 :
Very intense moment, but I just thought Matt Damon knocked it out of the park.
SPEAKER 07 :
Good movie. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Richard, you’re up.
SPEAKER 15 :
Well, real quick, I was going to echo John. I agree with John that if you are these teams and Mahomes is going to do that nonsense of, you know, he sort of like skirts back to the middle or whatever it is, give him a chance. Take a personal foul, right? Like, not one of your better players.
SPEAKER 07 :
Give him a good check.
SPEAKER 15 :
I’m just saying, that’s how it used to be, right? Give him a good hockey check. You know, Andy, like it used to be, you know, if you did the three-option garbage before the quarterbacks couldn’t be touched, if you did the three-option nonsense and you carried out the fake, we were always taught, you know, if the quarterback’s faking like he has the ball, you have every right to hit him. And I don’t know why more teams don’t do that. It’s because it would be called a personal foul. But if Mahomes was coming at me, that is exactly what I would do with one of these teams. Take the personal foul and just – deck him as hard as you can and then he’ll stop because he won’t want to get hurt and everything else yeah it’s going to cause a brawl and it’s going to cause a fight and i’m not advocating to injure the guy but if there’s no threat for him to be hit tough then there’s no point in him stopping you know you know brett farve would have been insulted if he didn’t get at least one late hit from warren sapp he would have been insulted but anyway richard you’re up Yes, absolutely. So, all right. I will go on the, I guess, the other train, which is a good Tom Hanks movie, which is Bridge of Spies.
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s on my list. I don’t have a clip, but it’s on my list.
SPEAKER 07 :
It’s on mine, too. I’ll cross it off. Go ahead, John. How about The Imitation Game?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes. Good movie, by the way. Uh-huh. Very good movie. Solid.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. This one is some of the great spy work I’ve ever seen, and that is Top Secret. And it’s skeet surfing. This is the song. And this is the Germans are listening to a song from Nick Rivers, who’s going to come and visit them. And it’s skeet surfing. Here we go.
SPEAKER 21 :
Guys on surfboards shooting. I think I’ve seen this one. Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’ve never seen this.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, it’s skeet surfing. It was done by the guys who did Naked Gun. Okay. And it starred Val Kilmer when he was young. And he was tremendous in this movie, by the way. Pretty funny. He was hit and miss. But the moment there when he’s talking about that, we’re going to go tell the teacher we’re out of here. We’re going to go shoot. And all the boys are running down the hallway with guns, shotguns. It’s hilarious. Anyway, Richard, you are up. Go.
SPEAKER 16 :
All right, I’m going to go with this guy. He may rest in peace, which is Philip Seymour Hoffman, a most wanted man.
SPEAKER 07 :
I think that’s on my list. Yep, it is.
SPEAKER 08 :
By the way, was there ever a better villain than Philip Seymour Hoffman in Mission Impossible 3?
SPEAKER 15 :
You know, a likable villain. Likeable, hateable, and then yet, Andy, he’s also a guy that could come back in any other movie and be, like, a lot of people are villains. They’re kind of villains, right? Yeah, yeah. But then that guy came back, and he was the, you know, it’s like in Hunger Games, right? Like, he was the good guy. Yeah. Just crazy depth.
SPEAKER 08 :
A breadth to his acting, I should say. What a tragic loss. What a wonderful actor. John, go ahead. Jack Ryan. Oh, yeah. Which one?
SPEAKER 07 :
You name it. Pick one. Yeah, doesn’t matter. It’s like Mission Impossible. I don’t care. Pick one.
SPEAKER 08 :
See, now I am still, I know I’m an old timer, but Hunt for Red October. Oh, that’s good.
SPEAKER 07 :
The original. That’s a good one.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, I just loved him in that. Okay. Man from Uncle. Here we go.
SPEAKER 18 :
We have no choice but to work together to infiltrate this organization. We’ll leave you two to get acquainted. Napoleon Solo. DCIA’s most effective agent.
SPEAKER 26 :
Julia Kiriakou. KGB, the youngest man to join in their best within three years.
SPEAKER 14 :
America is teaming up with Russia.
SPEAKER 08 :
Things could get a little messy. Man From U.N.C.L.E. was not a great movie, but it was a fun movie. It’s worth re-watching. Have you seen that one?
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah. I enjoyed it. Yeah, they’re good.
SPEAKER 08 :
I really did. Richard, you’re up. Absolutely.
SPEAKER 16 :
All right here. Oh, Kingsman.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, yeah. That was going to be my next one. Gotcha. Those are good. The whole series is good. I mean, some of them are a little cheesy.
SPEAKER 08 :
The church killing scene was just like, you’ve got to be kidding me. It’s good fun. Yeah, it’s good fun.
SPEAKER 07 :
Let’s see here. How about Central Intelligence?
SPEAKER 08 :
I never saw it.
SPEAKER 07 :
With… The Rock. Yeah, The Rock. There you go. Thank you. I didn’t see it. Was it fun? Yeah, it’s pretty good. Not bad. It’s cheesy, but not bad.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, now you’re going to listen to an old ad for a movie, and it’s just funny listening to how they advertised these movies back then. This is Thunderball with Sean Connery as 007. Come in.
SPEAKER 1 :
007. 007.
SPEAKER 27 :
Danger sign for the world’s most famous gentleman agent with a license to kill and license to thrill. 007, guarantee sign of prompt delivery, night and day service. Ravishing redheads. Bronze brunettes. I can’t say that today.
SPEAKER 08 :
I know. It’s just so funny. What a different time we are in. Oh, my word. Fact. Ravishing redheads. Fact. Blondes. Brunettes. I just love it.
SPEAKER 07 :
Can’t do that now.
SPEAKER 08 :
By the way, Sean Connery was fantastic.
SPEAKER 07 :
Now it’s, do we know that’s a woman?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. I know.
SPEAKER 07 :
Shauna Connery.
SPEAKER 15 :
Sorry. Okay. Richard, you’re up. Don’t do too much. All right. Gary Oldman here in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes. That’s on my list. That’s a good one.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, good one. How about Red Sparrow?
SPEAKER 08 :
That was interesting.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. A little slow. Very. Very slow, but still pretty good. Some spy movies are, as they build up into the character and all of the stuff going on and the plot and who’s doing what and so on and so forth.
SPEAKER 08 :
She’s actually quite a good actress. She is.
SPEAKER 07 :
Agree.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Oh, sorry. Do we have time?
SPEAKER 07 :
No, I’ve got to let Richard go. Are you ready to go, Richard, I assume?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yep, I am.
SPEAKER 07 :
I’ll let you go. All right, have a good rest of your night. See you, Richard. We’ll take a break. We’ll come back. High Five Plumbing is next. High Five Plumbing and Electrical, I should say. So whatever you’ve got going on with your home, if you had any issues during this past storm, give them a call today, 877-WE-HIGH-FIVE.
SPEAKER 04 :
High Five Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Electric can install a tankless water heater as soon as today. Tankless water heaters are preferred to tank heaters because they heat the water as you use it, meaning you’ll never run out of hot water again. Tankless water heaters also save you money on energy costs because you’re not constantly heating up that big tank. And because they are so efficient, you will save more money in the long run. High Five customers also enjoy tankless heaters because they take up less physical space in your utility closet or laundry room. These tankless heaters can even add to your home’s resale value. In addition to all these benefits, you can receive incentives and rebates of up to $3,200 from Uncle Sam, so it pays for itself. Find out more about tankless water heaters on the KLZRadio.com advertisers page and get in touch with High Five for answers to your home questions today.
SPEAKER 25 :
My ceiling is raining because the bathtub just ain’t draining. Call High Five with it.
SPEAKER 1 :
Call High Five.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, Kevin Flesch, my attorney, if you need anything at all when it comes to civil or criminal, you’ve got an insurance case that’s not settling correctly, things aren’t going as planned, give Kevin a call, 303-806-8886.
SPEAKER 03 :
Here’s why you need personal injury attorney Kevin Flesch on your side. He understands the way the jury thinks. In the context of a personal injury case, you’ve been hurt by someone else’s negligence. The idea is that you’re going to try to recover so that you can get back to where you were just prior to that incident occurring. What that really means from a jurist’s perspective is that you’re going to be asking them to award you money. So when we talk about fairness, we’re talking about six people that you don’t know. Those six people view the evidence and make a unanimous decision that will decide what the fair value is. When you’re the one who’s hurt, you have a good idea of what you think it’s worth. The question is, can you persuade those other individuals whom you don’t know and were witnesses to believe that’s what the case is worth? Kevin Flesch understands the way the jury thinks. Call now for a free consultation. 303-806-8886
SPEAKER 13 :

SPEAKER 05 :
Back to Rush to Reason, presented by Hi-5 Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Electric, where every call ends with a high five.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, we are back, and we are doing spy movies. Andy and I, Richard had to leave us, and I was telling Andy during the break that this is one of those genres that I think even as a kid, Andy, maybe it was just me, maybe other people are like me, but I always liked a good spy movie. Yeah, me too. I just liked the thrill, and is he or she going to get caught, and is it a spy movie? Is he a good guy, a bad guy? What’s the whole scoop going on and all of that?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, and they’re doing all these things that you know you could never do. And it’s just so fun to watch. And, of course, there’s just these huge stakes. The world is always at risk. Or something huge is at risk. I love them. I love spy movies. All right, you’re up. And, by the way, here, pretty soon we’ve got to talk about who’s the best Bond. You’ve always got to do that. But, first, here’s somebody who I think was a very good Bond, and that was Pierce Brosnan. And in a very good Bond movie… Probably not one of the very best, but it was probably my most watchable one, Goldeneye.
SPEAKER 19 :
Okay. And this time, 007 is facing the ultimate enemy, the man who knows him best. Hello, James. What an unpleasant surprise.
SPEAKER 1 :
006.
SPEAKER 19 :
What’s the matter? No pithy comeback?
SPEAKER 01 :
He was a friend, and now he’s your enemy and you will kill him.
SPEAKER 19 :
Is the satellite in range? Target is London.
SPEAKER 18 :
Now, the entire world is about to be caught in the crossfire.
SPEAKER 19 :
See you in hell, James. You first.
SPEAKER 08 :
See you in hell, James. You first. I thought that was a really good one. You know, he was the last one to do corny. James Bond, whereas Roger Craig, of course, got much more serious. Right. Which is just a different style, which is fine.
SPEAKER 07 :
Absolutely. Yep, you’re up. This one most people don’t think of as a spy movie because they think of it more of smuggling and all of that, but American made. Oh, yeah. Because he was spying as he was smuggling. Remember, he was taking pictures.
SPEAKER 08 :
Who’s that again?
SPEAKER 07 :
That was with Tom Cruise.
SPEAKER 08 :
Tom Cruise.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay, it was him. Based on a true story. Okay. He was basically taking pictures.
SPEAKER 08 :
There’s a lot of subterfuge there.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes. Okay, I’ll go with that.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, here’s one people generally don’t think of, but Red.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, yeah, good one.
SPEAKER 18 :
Red? Retired, extremely dangerous. Yeah, they don’t make them like that anymore.
SPEAKER 25 :
We’re going to break into the CIA and find out who’s trying to kill us. We’re getting the band back together. I put a few things away, just in case. I am excited.
SPEAKER 20 :
What do you suppose the punishment is for what we’re doing here?
SPEAKER 1 :
Death.
SPEAKER 20 :
Awesome.
SPEAKER 08 :
That was a funny movie. It was really enjoyable.
SPEAKER 07 :
And that’s one I’ve got to see. I have not seen it yet. Oh, you haven’t seen Red? No, I need to see it.
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s stupid. Don’t get me wrong. It’s stupid fun. But it’s made after a cartoon. A Marvel cartoon, actually. But it’s very funny and very good. And a tremendous cast. The second one’s not very good, but the first one’s great.
SPEAKER 07 :
Go ahead. Somebody’s got to tell me about this one because I don’t know the name. I’m just saying this so somebody can maybe throw this at us in a text message, but I just want to mention the movie because for the life of me, I could not find… And I’ve seen the movie numerous times. You’d think I could remember it. But it’s a movie about – it’s based on a true story, espionage, spy-type movie, where there’s a guy, D.C., and the agents, you basically know he’s a dual agent. He’s working for the Russians, and he’s working for us. And it’s this whole thing of where this new agent comes in to be his assistant, and they’ve actually got – that new agent spying on him and trying to… Is he Bruce Willis? No, he is not Bruce Willis. Okay, so that’s a different one. I can’t think of the actor’s name. If I thought of the actor’s name, I could find it really quick. But it’s a great movie, and it’s all about this young agent trying to capture this other agent who’s very devoted, Catholic, and even makes this kid go to some of the Catholic services and really get tight with the family. And he has to do all of that to make sure his cover isn’t blown. And in the end, they end up catching him and figuring out that he’s actually working for the Russians, even though on all fronts he appears to be very much all in for the Americans.
SPEAKER 08 :
Boy, I don’t remember that.
SPEAKER 07 :
And I’ll have to find the name of it. If those of you listening understand the movie I just told you about, please text it and we’ll add it to the list.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Well, I’ve got more clips, but I don’t think we have time. Let’s just go to some of the movies here. How about one of the dumbest ones ever made, silliest ones? And you only watch it if it’s a Saturday afternoon and you just want to watch something silly and fun. Moonraker.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, yeah. Good one, Andy. I didn’t think about that one.
SPEAKER 08 :
With Roger Moore. Roger Moore was the funniest Bond. Definitely.
SPEAKER 07 :
Agree.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Agree. Salt. Ah, that’s on my list. Which is a good movie.
SPEAKER 08 :
Was that Angelina? Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 07 :
She’s really good, isn’t she? She’s really good. I mean, she’s good, period. Really good in spy movies.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Angelina Jolie, I just love her. I think she’s terrific. Okay. The Spy Who Loved Me. It’s a classic.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, yeah. Good one.
SPEAKER 08 :
Great song, too.
SPEAKER 07 :
Body of Lies.
SPEAKER 08 :
Body of Lies. Who’s that? What’s that one now?
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, come on, Charlie. I’ve heard of that. I’ve got to look it up.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
Who’s the actor?
SPEAKER 08 :
I’ll jump to one that has one of the same words. True Lies.
SPEAKER 07 :
Oh, that’s a… With Ernie and Jamie Lee Curtis. Yeah, that’s Ernie, right?
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, and Tom… I’m spacing his name.
SPEAKER 07 :
You’re just slipping my mind right at the moment.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, but he was so funny. Anyway, Tom Arnold.
SPEAKER 07 :
There you go.
SPEAKER 08 :
That’s right, Tom Arnold. He made that movie.
SPEAKER 07 :
All right, let’s go to Joe.
SPEAKER 09 :
Joe, you’re up. Go ahead. Guys, it wasn’t a movie, but the series Burn Notice. Did you ever see Burn Notice with Mike?
SPEAKER 07 :
No, I never did watch it. I know about it, but I know I never watched it, Joe. I think I saw some of it.
SPEAKER 09 :
You know, great. Bruce Campbell. I remember Bruce Campbell was the movie he was in with the chainsaw. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Army of Darkness. Army of Darkness. He was great. And Jeffrey. And it was incredibly high rated. You know, he plays a disavowed spy who’s trying to figure out, you know, he’s been basically burned. They cut off his bank account. They cut off his clearance. So he’s living with his mother in Florida trying to figure out. And meanwhile, he’s kind of doing Robin Hood stuff. But in the meantime, there’s this continuing undertow. of why was I burned? Who wanted me out of the agency? You know, what were they afraid I would find? And it goes on for like three seasons like that. It’s just a great, great series, Burn Notice.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, I really like him. Let me ask you this, Joe. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen this, but there was a series based on a movie called La Femme Nikita. Yes. It was very, very cool. Oh, you’ve seen it, John? I have, yeah. With Peter Wilson? Yeah. Okay, what did you guys think? Well, I like it, yeah. I liked it a lot.
SPEAKER 09 :
I liked it a lot, too.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, good. I’m not alone. Yeah, very much so. Go ahead, Joe.
SPEAKER 09 :
And by the way, Bruce Campbell wasn’t the star of that Burn Notice. He was… He was a supporting actor. Jeffrey Donovan played the lead character. He had him with Michael Weston. Okay. But Bruce Campbell was like his right-hand man. They had Gabriel Anwar as his kind of female assistant spy. So just a great series. So if any of your listeners want to watch a great series, I think you can see it on Netflix. Once you start watching, it’ll grab you. It’s that good. It’s kind of like in the same order as The Night Agent, which, by the way, season two started yesterday.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s a good series, too.
SPEAKER 09 :
Cool, cool. Night Agent started yesterday, season two.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay, good. Good to know. Thank you, Joe. Thank you, Joe, for that. I appreciate it very much. I guess, is it mine or yours? I don’t remember. You go. I think it’s my turn. Charlie Wilson’s War.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, with Tom Hanks? Yep. Yeah. Geez, I like him. Did you ever see old one, Three Days of the Condor?
SPEAKER 07 :
No, never did.
SPEAKER 08 :
It’s good.
SPEAKER 07 :
Go ahead. So Three Days of the Condor? Yeah. Okay. I’ll put that on the list. Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, right. A bad marriage for spies. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER 07 :
Not good.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay, John, this is a Star Wars movie, but it was a spy movie, too. Rogue One. Oh, yeah. Good idea, Andy.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes. I would not have thought of that.
SPEAKER 08 :
And it was actually a pretty good little movie.
SPEAKER 07 :
You’re up. Okay, funny movie, Spies Like Us.
SPEAKER 08 :
Chevy and Dan. Yeah, I like that. How about, let’s go back to Jack Ryan. I’m going to do Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Good one. Which one of those did you, I like Clear and Present a little more, but I like both.
SPEAKER 07 :
They’re both good.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
Again, I like spy movies, so Argo. Based on a true story.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Yeah. That’s, oh, that’s, what’s his name? Ben Affleck. Ben Affleck. Okay. How about this? Going back to Mission Impossible, Ghost Protocol. Oh, that’s a good one. That was a cool movie.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
I didn’t put any of those on here. Atomic Blonde.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. Yeah. We got to go with one of my favorites of all time. I got a clip. We don’t have time. Get smart. Oh, both the TV show, which I own and the movie movie was hilarious and they never did a sequel. I don’t know why. Enemy of the state. Oh yeah. Good one. Okay. Uh, did we do mission impossible rogue nation? No. All right.
SPEAKER 07 :
No one works.
SPEAKER 08 :
And what about what might as well throw it out? The original mission impossible was so cutting edge. Wasn’t it? I agree with Tom Cruise. Go ahead. Spy next door. That one. I don’t remember. Who stars in that?
SPEAKER 07 :
I don’t remember.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay.
SPEAKER 07 :
I could put somebody on my list. I can’t remember them all.
SPEAKER 08 :
Okay. Undercover Nazis. Where Eagles Dare. Where Eagles Dare. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 07 :
Okay. Agent Cody Banks. I’m surprised Richard didn’t mention that.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes, I am surprised. Okay, I’ve got to go to the next Bourne movie, The Bourne Supremacy. Good one. Which is a good movie. Go ahead. House of Spies. House of Spies. Got to go right back to Bourne, The Bourne Ultimatum. I liked all three, John. Now, the third one wasn’t quite as tight as the first two, but it was still good.
SPEAKER 07 :
Operation Mincemeat.
SPEAKER 08 :
Don’t know it. It’s an older movie. Good. Here’s one that is actually somewhat of a spy movie, Inglourious Bastards. Even though they were there to just kill Nazis, they had a lot of subterfuge.
SPEAKER 07 :
You’re up. I wouldn’t have thought of that one.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 07 :
That’s a good one, Andy. Well, I wanted to throw a curveball. No, that’s a good one. The Good Shepherd.
SPEAKER 08 :
Oh, good. Good. Here’s one that came out last year. Argyle.
SPEAKER 07 :
I don’t think… I’ve never seen that. Argyle? Yes.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah, that one I don’t know. Yeah, with the lady.
SPEAKER 08 :
She’s a writer. Anyway, I had a clip. Don’t have time. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 07 :
Zero Dark Thirty. Oh, yes.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yes. Okay, let’s get back to, how about Casino Royale?
SPEAKER 07 :
I think that one or Skyfall. Yeah. One of the two of those are my favorite. I mean, both of those are top notch.
SPEAKER 08 :
Skyfall, I would have to say, had the best story.
SPEAKER 07 :
Yeah. What a story. Setting the whole nine yards.
SPEAKER 08 :
And it was raw.
SPEAKER 07 :
Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER 08 :
You know, he’s asking, he’s wanting all his cool stuff, and they give him a gun and a camera.
SPEAKER 07 :
