SPEAKER 05 :
It’s a mighty fancy automobile. Oh, she’s a real road king, all right. Zero to 60 in 7.5. She’ll do a quarter of a mile, 13.40. 390 horsepower, 500 foot-pounds of torque. Whatever that is. Performance and image, that’s what it’s all about.
SPEAKER 20 :

And we are back, Hour 3. Again, myself, we have Roy and Dietze both from Pro-Tech Auto Shield with us. We’ll still talk a little bit about paint, paintless dent removal and things like that throughout this hour. Mark Guernsey from Accountable up in Broomfield with us as well. And Jeff in Montana, you are next. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 11 :
Hey, good morning again. I wanted to talk about, I think his name was Ed, the guy who has a title. Yes. He can get a title on North Carolina. This isn’t about vehicles. I had a tax issue. Here, the state of Montana in 2023 authorized a rebate back for like 2020 and 2021. And so I found out in filing for the rebate that I didn’t, my taxes had not made it through the system. The IRS had not received my refund. And consequently, neither had Montana. I didn’t realize that for a couple of years. And, uh, I went through a lot of trouble and effort. But two things that really worked well for me, for the state of Montana, I went to the, I think it was the Department of Revenue, and they had an advocate there. And I called her personal number, and she picked up, and she handled it for the Montana state taxes issue. And they hadn’t even actually got my return for that year, but they looked at prior and later years and realized I was an actual taxpayer and gave me the rebate. So sometimes just getting a person helps a lot. And also the IRS has a state office, and I called the number for the Montana office for the Internal Revenue Service, and I got a person there as well, and she managed to get it on track for the federal office. return when my accountant had problems. So I say all that just to say that maybe he just needs to go to the Department of Motor Vehicles or whatever the equivalent is. Here it would be the Motor Vehicle Department, MVD. But fine, look if there’s an advocate or somebody. See if you can get a hold of somebody in the front office who will take your case on and expedite it through. You know, sometimes just be the squeaky wheel and don’t give up until you find somebody who’s gone through all the phone numbers.
SPEAKER 26 :
I also did find we did enough research, too, and had a couple of text messages that in his case, once he gets that end of it done, Jeff, the VIN verification, Aurora PD should actually be able to handle that for him as well. Any police officer can do a VIN verification as long as they’ve got the right form and everything. So that’s a plus as well. So that part I think he can get handled. It’s getting the title end of things dialed in first, to your point.
SPEAKER 11 :
Right. So just don’t give up with the state of North Carolina. You know, there are. I’ve had this happen to me in Florida and all sorts of different places where the state can’t do a dang thing for you, but people can. That’s true. Good point. Good point.
SPEAKER 26 :
Yep.
SPEAKER 11 :
Great idea. We can do something for you.
SPEAKER 26 :
Great idea. Appreciate that, Jeff. No, thank you. That’s a great idea. Dan and Peyton, you are next. Go ahead.
SPEAKER 16 :
Hi, guys. I’ve got a couple of things. A couple of years ago, John, or sometime around there, you were going to talk to a a man from the state talking. My question for then was, now that most of the cars in this state are fuel-injected, were they going to raise the octane back up to 87 for regular?
SPEAKER 26 :
And the answer is no, they’re not.
SPEAKER 16 :
They’ve changed their figures. All right, well, that’s… Now, as far as the… I’ve got a… 1953 Suburban Chevy, and I’ve got a brand new set of 1953 plates, and I’ve got a form that the DMV gave me, and I’ve had this for probably a year or two now. But there’s a form that you can hook them up to your car, as long as you’re going to and from a car show.
SPEAKER 09 :
Right.
SPEAKER 16 :
And is that a new law, Stan, for you can drive it with video?
SPEAKER 26 :
Well, what they’re telling you is on classic plates, you’re limited to how many miles a year you drive. You’re supposed to sign even an affidavit saying that you’re not driving it over X amount of miles. I think it’s 4,000 or 5,000, Dan. Somebody else probably has looked this up, you know, sooner than I have here, or more recently than I have, but I think it’s 5,000 a year, Dan. You have to sign an affidavit. Nobody ever checks, by the way, on that to see how many miles a year anybody actually is driving, believe it or not. But, yeah, to your point, you can take, like I was saying earlier, you could take those 1953 plates and register that to the 53 Suburban.
SPEAKER 16 :
So every five years I can get a new colored sticker. Correct. I like that.
SPEAKER 26 :
Yes, that is correct.
SPEAKER 16 :
I love it.
SPEAKER 26 :
Yep, you’re correct.
SPEAKER 16 :
Now, my… My third thing, a friend of mine told me that the Japanese K trucks… Yeah, K trucks are going to be able to be sold here in Colorado, I believe, 2027.
SPEAKER 1 :
27.
SPEAKER 26 :
I believe that’s correct.
SPEAKER 16 :
Are they… So will they… At 27, do they have to… The van is legal, from what I hear. But now the pickup is going to be, can we get one from out of state?
SPEAKER 26 :
Yeah, I believe so. And that was an HB 25-1281. That was a law that was already signed by Governor Polis, and that will start July 1st of 2027. It applies to K trucks that are 25 years or older. Correct.
SPEAKER 16 :
Correct. Okay, so, okay, yeah, I want one.
SPEAKER 26 :
Well, there you go. Now you can go do that. I mean, I guess you could even get one sooner than that. You just won’t be able to register it until July 1st of 2027. Yeah.
SPEAKER 16 :
Now, does that include the van?
SPEAKER 26 :
I believe that’s all K trucks.
SPEAKER 16 :
Okay, I’ll have to… Talk to the DMV about that, I guess. Thanks, guys.
SPEAKER 26 :
You’re very welcome. Dan, thank you very much. And, yeah, for those of you that were interested in that, it’s actually K-E-I, but we say K-Trucks, and that’s how the actual spelling is. Go ahead, Eric. You’re next.
SPEAKER 17 :
Hey, great show, you guys. Sir, I have a very old car. It’s a 1979 Pontiac Le Mans. It has a 231 V6. And anyways… I bought this stuff called Magic Tank. Do you know what that is?
SPEAKER 26 :
I do not.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, Magic Tank is a sealed one-gallon container, and you put it in your trunk, and if you run out of gas, you can pour it into your gas tank. It’s not gasoline, but it’s supposed to be safe to drive, you know, just to get you to the gas station, you know. Okay. But anyways… It’s been sitting in my trunk for probably at least 10 or 12 years. I’ve never used it, and I bought a couple of other gallons of it in the garage, too. They were on closeout at King Soopers. This stuff never caught on, but… I was wondering, do you think I should just throw that stuff away at this point? You know anything about it, Mark?
SPEAKER 26 :
This is news to me. I’ve never heard of it.
SPEAKER 19 :
I’ve never heard of it. It sounds like a good concept. And the first thing it says is that it has a 10-year shelf life. So if you’re there, yeah, throw it out.
SPEAKER 26 :
Okay. There’s your answer. A 10-year shelf life.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, so I probably should chuck it then, I would think.
SPEAKER 26 :
Probably, yeah, and that’s one of those where it’s going to be hazardous, so you need to wait until your city has its freebie, drop your hazardous waste off kind of a thing. You can’t just throw it in the trash.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, do you know of any other stuff that’s similar to that that you can get?
SPEAKER 26 :
I have no idea. No, I do not know. I mean, if you take a regular gallon of gas and seal it tight with no air and put the BG Supercharge, the right mixture, in that gas, you could easily get two to three years out of that can of gas, no problem, as long as it’s full and sealed where there’s no air in it.
SPEAKER 17 :
So I could probably just, like you said, just get a gas tank, a gas can, and then put a gallon in. And what did you say that stuff was, sir?
SPEAKER 26 :
It’s called BG Supercharge. It’s a fuel stabilization, and it will do a little bit of cleaning as well with whatever the fuel is touching once it’s in there. But it’s a stabilizer, and I’ve used it, and I’ve gotten two years plus out of it, so I know it works.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay, and then just put BG Supercharge in it. Okay, sir. Thanks for the info. You’re very welcome.
SPEAKER 26 :
And that’s the cheapest way to do it, by the way, too, also, Eric.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, okay. And then I had another crazy question for you. About 12 or 15 years ago, I bought a five-gallon jug of 1040 high-mileage oil. Okay. And I used a little bit of it, less than a half a quart, very little. And I put it in the bottom shelf in my pantry in my house, so it’s been at room temperature. But it’s been sitting there for almost possibly 15 years, and I pulled it out, and there’s only two quarts in it. So I guess the rest of the oil, I don’t know how, but it evaporated. But do you think I should just throw that away? I mean, it’s only two quarts, but I just thought I’d ask.
SPEAKER 26 :
Do you have a lawnmower or anything along those lines you could use it in?
SPEAKER 17 :
No, sir, I don’t.
SPEAKER 26 :
So only the car. What I would do is donate that to somebody, Eric, that’s got a waste oil heater where they could use that to heat their shop or whatever with, and a lot of shops do that. A lot of shops will take that oil for free. You don’t have to pay anything to have them take it. And really quick, by the way, most of them will probably take the other from you as well because they could burn that in their waste oil heater. So reality is you could drop both those off, no problem.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, where did you say to put it, sir?
SPEAKER 26 :
Anybody that has a waste oil heater they heat their shop with.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, okay. So the motor oil will burn then, huh?
SPEAKER 26 :
Yeah, and so will the other in that case. It’ll mix in enough, it’ll burn.
SPEAKER 17 :
Okay. But anyways, if you have brand new oil like that and it just sits.
SPEAKER 26 :
If it’s not opened, it’ll last its lifetime, actually. I mean, there’s no air getting in it, nothing to bother. It’ll last a long, long, long time.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, okay. So you think maybe this evaporated.
SPEAKER 26 :
I highly doubt it evaporated. I don’t know where it would have gone, but no, oil does not evaporate. Too heavy.
SPEAKER 17 :
Oh, that’s why I was wondering. This is weird. This is bizarre.
SPEAKER 26 :
Yeah, it does not evaporate.
SPEAKER 17 :
I was thinking just some aliens took it or something.
SPEAKER 26 :
Mice were in there getting after it.
SPEAKER 17 :
Yeah. Okay, sir. All right, Eric.
SPEAKER 26 :
Thank you. You bet. Appreciate you. Let’s take a break. We’ll come back. John and Centennial, hang tight. This is Drive Radio KLZ 560.

SPEAKER 15 :
Hey, John, how are you? Good. Haven’t talked to you in a while. Thank you, sir. Hey, just want to let you know, I’ll tell you a funny driver’s license story that happened to me. In March of this year, I drove my Canadia, you know, my Acadia from Canada. I drove it to Michigan with my wife and Stayed there about a week because she’s 92 years old. And so I left my wife there. And then not permanently.
SPEAKER 26 :
Did you say you’d bring her back with you eventually?
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah. And then I flew back a week after I left there in March. I flew back to Colorado. Well, the first of May, I flew back there. picked her up, celebrated Mother’s Day. Well, while I was back there, my mother-in-law likes to go to the casinos out there and play the penny slots. So I go with her. We go. And I go up there, and I want to get a casino card, whatever they call them. You know what I’m saying? Casino card. I go up there, and she says, well, let me see your driver’s license. So I give her my Colorado driver’s license. She goes, I can’t give you a casino card. And I said, why is that? And she says, it’s expired. I said, what? She said, yeah, it expired last February on your birthday. And she said, you’ve got to get a new one. And so I went online. I applied, reinstated, paid my fee. They said you can do that as long as it’s not out a year. And hang on to that. Use your old driver’s license because my wife was afraid she was going to have to drive back. Oh, gotcha.
SPEAKER 26 :
Sure, sure, sure.
SPEAKER 15 :
So the funny gist of the whole story, and I got my driver’s license in the mail today, actually. The whole gist of it is I can’t get a casino card, but I could go through TSA twice.
SPEAKER 26 :
Without anyone even noticing.
SPEAKER 15 :
They did not even catch it. That’s hilarious, John. That’s hilarious.
SPEAKER 26 :
That shows you they’re not paying attention.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah. So I couldn’t get a casino card. But you could fly. But I could fly, and I flew twice, and they never caught it. That’s hilarious.
SPEAKER 26 :
That’s a good story, John.
SPEAKER 15 :
Yeah, I have to tell you.
SPEAKER 26 :
That’s a good story. I appreciate it, John. Yeah, that’s a great story. I appreciate it. It just shows you that they do not pay attention. Jerry and Greeley, go ahead.
SPEAKER 08 :
Your caller, Eric, before the break, he was asking about storing fuel.
SPEAKER 24 :
Yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
And I just wanted to share. I used to… keep a bunch of gas out in my storage shed in the backyard in good, high-quality plastic jugs with rubber seals. And it would get so hot in there that, you know, I could smell the volatiles. And then, but over time, like years, I mean, I kept it way too long, but I would actually lose volume. And So I had a talk about this with a nice gentleman who works out at the local household hazardous waste recycling center. And he said, yeah, you know, even the best jugs that you’re going to lose, like micrograms a day or something. That’s correct. And even… maybe just molecules at a time will actually migrate through the walls of the jug.
SPEAKER 26 :
And I think to your point, Jerry, it’s worse when it’s hot as well because the temperature changes way worse. If you can keep it in a nice, cool, constant place where it’s not super hot, yeah, it’ll be more stable that way as well.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah. And the same gentleman I was chatting with, he just happened to have previously worked at a Napa warehouse, and he told me how they’d get certain products in that wouldn’t sell, wouldn’t move quickly, and would be in storage for a long time. But even though they had, like, the foil seals under the cap, they would still lose volume over time just through the super slow evaporation.
SPEAKER 26 :
I would agree. I think that not actually through the top, but just out through the bottle itself, right?
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, both, I think. Okay. And then my experience is keeping it in like a hot trunk or something in a car that you’re going to have some gas off.
SPEAKER 26 :
And we were talking about this a little bit through the break, and I want to be critical of people. They can do whatever they want to do, Jerry. But I haven’t carried an extra gas can with me in decades. I mean, there’s a stinking gas station on every corner pretty much anywhere in the U.S. of A. I just don’t know why you need to anymore.
SPEAKER 08 :
You know, I used to do a lot of four-wheeling out in really remote areas in southeast Utah.
SPEAKER 26 :
Yeah, that’s different.
SPEAKER 08 :
And I would strap a bunch of jugs on the roof rack on top of the vehicle. And one time I was out there, and it was super hot, and we were out in the sun for all day, and the gas actually started boiling in the jugs.
SPEAKER 09 :
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER 08 :
It was unbelievable. But… Well, I took a tip from you on a previous show sometime back. You were talking about the VP Racing jugs.
SPEAKER 26 :
The jugs. They’re the best jugs out there.
SPEAKER 08 :
Yeah, I’ve had really good luck with those.
SPEAKER 26 :
They’re the best. They’re so thick and stable and good seals and easy to pour out of. That’s the other thing I like about them is they’re easy to use. You buy the square ones, they’re easy to store because you can just stack them right next to one another. And, yeah, I have far too many of them, Jerry, let’s just say that, more than I probably need.
SPEAKER 08 :
Well, and I assume this has something to do with the spill-proof regulations, but, you know, they come with a sticker that says don’t use gas in these, but sometimes people get mixed up and they work really well for gas.
SPEAKER 26 :
Absolutely.
SPEAKER 08 :
Anyway, I just thought I’d share that.
SPEAKER 26 :
No, good stuff, Jerry. Appreciate you very much. We’ve got a review coming up on a car we did here earlier in the week. My son and I, Richard, did. So hang tight for that. Dan and Monument will be with you just as soon as we come back. This is Drive Radio, KLZ 560. All right, we are back. And, Richard, we always take time each week to do car reviews. Again, I know we’re a little bit behind because of the season and vacations and so on. But what have you driven lately? Let’s start with your first one, which I believe is what, a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid?
SPEAKER 07 :
A Toyota? Yes, a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. It’s kind of a mouthful, Dad, right? Yeah. It’s a great car. And, Dad, I think that’s a 2025, right? It feels like it is.
SPEAKER 26 :
2025, yep, that’s what I show.
SPEAKER 07 :
In a great car, Dad, it’s a little bit bigger of a car, right? It’s not a typical… Sorry, I’m pulling up my notes here. Yeah, it’s a compact crossover SUV, Dad. It’s kind of that new class of SUV. It’s not a full-size SUV, folks, that you’re probably used to seeing, but it’s also not a sedan either, right? And it’s not… It’s not super small. It just kind of fits into that mid, I guess I’m going to call it a midsize, I should be saying.
SPEAKER 26 :
Yeah, they’re going to call it a small one, but I’m with you. I think, you know, here’s what’s interesting. Toyota calls it one. You and I would call it something else like the rental cars do, by the way, because when you go to a rental car agency, what I would consider to be a midsize, and I think even the manufacturer would call a midsize, they’re calling that a full size. So I think you and I are on the right track.
SPEAKER 07 :
Exactly. I’m going to go with that. And so, yeah, like I said, that 2025, the Toyota hybrid system, as we always talk about, is really second to none, right? It’s really, really hard to beat that system as a whole and kind of what it does and what it can do and all of the above as far as… that goes let me see what’s new for 2025 no real changes it was introduced in 2022 it’s a little bit quick quicker and more efficient the hybrid model is right dad which is yes to be expected um it’s a it’s not quite as roomy but again i think some folks are going to miss that dad the idea is this is not supposed to be as big as an suv it’s just a little bit bigger of a car it’s kind of and actually i’ve got it here it’s four inches shorter lengthwise than the rav4 okay it’s it’s a little bit similar in size to a RAV4. So maybe, Dad, those four inches do help you if you’re in an urban environment, right? You’re not driving around as much, or you like the looks of the Corolla Cross, right? That can be something, too, for folks. They like the look of that a little bit different. Again, changes to 2025 are purely cosmetic. As far as the interior, Dad, goes, it’s everything you would come to expect of Toyota. And what I mean by that, it’s simple yet elegant. And so it’s not the fanciest thing out there, but it’s really, You don’t have a ton of buttons to mess with to where it’s going to mess you up. And as you know, Dad, some of these cars we get into, they get a little bit, well, wordy is not the right way, but they get a little bit difficult to operate, especially if you’re only in them for a short period of time. So if he gets away from doing that. As far as price, Dad, I don’t have this one on me, but it ranges from $29,845 to the XSE is $33,000. And, Dad, like you and I talked about it. Yeah, really quick. The one you drove, $34,705 was the total. 34%, exactly. And that nightshade, Dad, let me see if I can pull up the notes for it. It’s obviously what Toyota’s done with a lot of these trim levels, Dad, is they sort of kind of give you different accented pieces to it, but the overall vehicle stays the same. And I apologize, I don’t have that note exactly in front of me as far as what’s…
SPEAKER 26 :
And this one we drove, you know, had, you know, of course, the JBL sound system had the full moonroof in it. To your point, had the nightshade edition, which just gives you some two-tone paint coloring and some things like that. And again, that whole car, total price, sticker price, $34,705. Not a bad price at all.
SPEAKER 07 :
Exactly. Not a bad price, especially for a hybrid, Dad, where you’re going to be able to go about almost 400 miles on a tank of gas. And that’s not me pulling from any standard number, Dad. It’s just real world driving that you and I do. That’s something that doesn’t happen all the time. And that’s something that I really, really like. And like you say, kind of that nightshade edition is a little bit different, provides some value. So if you’re interested in this, folks, head to your local Toyota dealership. Again, 2025 Corolla Cross Hybrid Nightshade. Test drive it, and when you do that, let them know that John and Richard Rush from Drive Radio and Rush to Reason sent you.

SPEAKER 26 :
All right, we are back. Drive Radio, KLZ 560. Dan and Monument, go ahead.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, there’s a recall coming out, John, next month. It involves 721,000 vehicles that have the 6.2 liter engine. And one thing that I was told, one of the solutions that may be, is they’re going to change the oil cap. and they’re going to go from 0W-20 to 0W-40 on those engines.
SPEAKER 26 :
That’s correct.
SPEAKER 14 :
What do you think of this? What’s causing it, do you know?
SPEAKER 26 :
I have one, and so I’m very familiar with the whole recall process and all of that. And actually, the recall already exists. It’s a matter of them finalizing how they’re going to function or make that recall actually work. And what they’re waiting for and the reason why they’re not bringing vehicles in until then is all the dealers are waiting for a dongle, quote-unquote, that enables them to check initially – to see if the camshaft is out of line at all with the crankshaft, and that’s theoretically what they feel is the telltale sign of whether that engine’s going to be good or be bad as to whether or not that camshaft is out of phase from the crankshaft. So that’s the first thing they’re doing, and the reason, Dan, they’re waiting until that date is because they’re funneling those particular diagnostic devices, cables, I guess you could say, out to all of the dealers to make sure they have them and they’re trained properly and how they can actually scan the car, the truck, I should say, to make sure that that’s all in line. And if it is, then they will do exactly what you’re saying. They will drain it, make sure there’s no metal or anything in the oil. They’re going to change the oil cap to the zero 40, put zero 40 oil back in, which is very interesting, Dan, because in the marketplace today, there’s hardly any zero 40 oil period. So it’s going to be interesting to see how all that works. And I’m wondering if part of their delay in even getting these trucks in is the fact that there’s not a lot of zero 40 in the marketplace. That’s even being made for other types of vehicles. Um, My own gut feeling is they’ve had the same issues, I think, that Toyota has had, whereby the machining process and whoever they’re getting those things from wasn’t completed properly. I think there’s been some filings in certain vehicles left behind and or machining wasn’t accurate because if you look at the bearings coming out of some of these vehicles. and how much where they have on them in some cases with very very very little miles some cases they’ll run twenty thousand miles without having any problems uh… the other issue that everybody’s having right now in that particular realm is if you go to take that truck dan and traded in nobody’s wanting to take those trucks on trade because there’s a stop sale on the new trucks, meaning there’s a stop sale on used trucks that are on dealer lots, meaning that they’re devalued right now, which is a huge class action situation for General Motors, which they’re going to get sued over because basically what they’re telling you now is your truck isn’t worth trading in, which is total garbage.
SPEAKER 14 :
I see, yeah. The question that I had was, you know, we heard over and over again that they went to 0W20 Because the tolerances were so close.
SPEAKER 26 :
Correct. The zero weight especially, yes.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah. And what it amounts to is now we’re doubling the viscosity of the oil.
SPEAKER 26 :
Right.
SPEAKER 14 :
And I’m just wondering if you’re not… going to have further problems because the oil is too thick.
SPEAKER 26 :
I hardly doubt it. I think they should have had that to begin with. Keep in mind that in not defending GM because they’ve got problems and not defending them, but, but, there’s always a but, the EPA and what’s been happening even in previous administrations has been so hard on these manufacturers when it comes to the fuel economy end of things. that that’s where some of this thin weight oil comes from, Dan. It’s not so much that the manufacturer wants that, because you could take the same vehicle, same engine, put it overseas, and it’ll have a different weight oil in it than what that 020 is over here. So while the zero weight, I think, is there for the cold weather, making sure we’re lubricating lifters and the small ports that are in the cylinder deactivation end of things and so on, the 40 weight, I don’t think, and now… And supposedly there’s going to be a class action lawsuit from some owner saying, if I go to 040, my fuel economy is going down, and that was false advertisement, blah, blah, blah. I don’t think that one’s going to go anywhere, by the way, because I don’t think you’re going to notice any difference in fuel economy from 020 to 040, despite what some of these other folks might claim. And, again, Dan, I don’t think the 040 is going to hurt anything in the engine at all. And I’m wondering, could you have run, you know, 1030 in that all along and had no issues whatsoever? Again, the zero weight being as much for the fuel economy end of things on the CAFE ratings as anything else.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah. The 040 is out. It’s mostly its mobile one. And it’s expensive.
SPEAKER 26 :
It’s a European oil. It’s very, very expensive. I’m not joking, folks. It’s $10 a quart, roughly.
SPEAKER 14 :
Yeah, yeah. And in the Cadillac line, the VS, the souped-up 650 horse, it’s got 40 weight. And then the little sedan that’s got the big engine is also 40 weight. So they’re using it.
SPEAKER 26 :
It’s already there. And in a lot of the Corvettes and so on, they’ve got different weight oil as well, while the engine is basically still the configuration and tolerances and so on is 40. fairly close to being the same as well dan i don’t want to say they’re exactly the same because i know they’re not the exact same engines but the the basics are and i’m one that says i don’t think the 040 is going to have any issues on it whatsoever the biggest thing is you know i guess the gm has to go back and look at is you know what caused this in the first place what vendor was producing these things for them and not you know not meeting the demand of what should have been their quality wise Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER 14 :
Well, thank you very much. I appreciate it.
SPEAKER 26 :
No, I appreciate it, Dan. That’s a great question. We haven’t talked much about that just because, I mean, it’s very well known. Anybody that has a 6.2 engine, 21 to 24, that’s what that recall involves, and it’s across the board. It’s GMC. It’s Chevy. It’s, of course, Cadillac on the Escalade product. It is across the board. And, again, is every engine going to be affected and replaced? The other thing, too, they’re going to do, I want to make sure I reiterate, For those that go through that process, you’ve got a good engine today. Everything checks out. They put the new cap on. They put 048 oil in it, and off you go. They’re going to extend the warranty on that engine in that truck to 10 years. Now, if you’re having a… situation where you get an engine replacement, you don’t get the 10-year warranty. You’re getting the same warranty. They’re giving you the new engine, and off you go. So the only thing that, as of right now, now this could change as the recall goes down the road, but as of right now, if you meet all of the criteria, they put the new oil cap on, put new oil in it, you get a 10-year extended warranty on the engine itself, which actually is not a bad deal if you don’t need an engine. So, again, it’s going to be interesting to see how all this actually pans out when it’s all said and done. Con Conrad, you’re next.
SPEAKER 10 :
Hey, John. Good to hear you’re back, man. Thanks, sir. Real good show, as always. I got two questions, if that’s okay. Sure. The first one is on the Torino. I’ve been thinking about wanting to put an XM radio in there so I can listen to the XM satellite channels. Sure. I don’t want to have one of those antennas on the roof. Do they got ones now that don’t have to have that on there?
SPEAKER 26 :
That I don’t know. I think you have to have some sort of antenna to get the satellite signal. But how permanently, you know, that has to has to be mounted that I’ve not done an aftermarket satellite radio for quite some time. So that would have to research Conrad. I don’t know.
SPEAKER 10 :
Probably car toys would probably know what to do.
SPEAKER 26 :
Probably, or even just, you know, just go online and look at some of the different radio options that are there. And some satellite radio options, I know at one time they even had some portable ones that you could use and interface with your existing radio, and that has a portable type antenna. So, yeah, I’d have to just research that one, Conrad.
SPEAKER 10 :
That would work good. I’d like that. That would be a good deal. Yeah, they got, like, what was that, Pandora, I think is what they called that. Right, right. Yeah.
SPEAKER 26 :
All right, the other one real quick is I’ve been… Now, one other idea for you, too, really quick, that I was just thinking of. If you’re an XM subscriber and you do the right subscription, you can use the app on your phone, and then all you need is a Bluetooth connection to your existing radio. You could then use satellite on that radio just through your phone, and no antennas, no nothing extra.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, that’s a good idea.
SPEAKER 26 :
So you can do that also.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah. Cool. All right. The other one is, you know, I’ve had that F-150 since 2013 and got about 300,000 miles on it, but it’s still running strong and all that. But I think it’s time to think about maybe getting a new one in. I talked to a guy over at Phil Long Ford, and they’ve got a – I want a V8, and they’ve got a 5-liter V8. Yep. in an F-150, and I was wondering, I don’t want an EcoBoost, I want a V8. So are those pretty good engines in those 5-liter form? Yeah, they’re fabulous.
SPEAKER 26 :
Mark, you can attest to that.
SPEAKER 06 :
Yeah, especially compared to the twin-turbo. Those engines are holding up really well. One of Ford’s best engines.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, good power and all that, right?
SPEAKER 06 :
Oh, yeah, solid there.
SPEAKER 10 :
Yeah, the one I have is a 5.4 liter, and that’s been great. It’s got dual-over… overhead cams on it, you know, what they had. It’s held up great, but, you know, I’m probably just biding my time before something goes wrong. All right. Well, it’s good to have you back, John. Thanks, Conrad.
SPEAKER 26 :
Appreciate you.
SPEAKER 10 :
Always, buddy.
SPEAKER 26 :
All right, man. Have a good one. Appreciate you very much. Somebody asked earlier, too, and I’ll get this in before we go to break, ad tech that you see at a lot of the pumps, especially, I’ll just name it, King Soopers. King Soopers is one of those where if you buy their fuel that’s got the ad tech thing, somebody’s talking to you, put this thing in, put this in, blah, blah, blah. Somebody asked, what do I think of all that? Go buy better fuel to begin with. Um, don’t use the ad tech. It’s an extra thing that, you know, King supers in this case is just making money off of, uh, by selling you that additive package. Um, and I’m not saying that King supers fuel is worse than anybody else’s, but it’s not top tier. And I know there’s people out there that will tell me there’s no difference between top tier and other and, That’s a debate I’ll have another day. I’m not going to do it right now. I, for one, will buy the higher quality fuel. And there’s some stations, Conoco, where you can, I think even some Phillips stations, depending upon where you’re at, that will still take your King Soopers phone number points and so on, where you’re still earning all the same things you normally would and you’re not buying King Soopers gas. I’m not a fan of doing the extra additives. If you buy good fuel to begin with, you don’t need the extra additives. It’s an extra expense you don’t need. You’re better off running the EPR at every oil change that we talk about with Mark all the time. and then at that same time use 44k in the gas tank and if you do that you don’t really and run good fuel run top tier fuel you don’t need to do anything else on top of that so the ad tech is a complete waste of money if you ask me so do not use it and if you want to use a tank a cut rate fuel every now and again you know be my guest that’s fine use your points up however you want to do that i have no problem doing that but i would not use that on an every fill up basis if it were me so hope that explains things we’ll be right back drive radio klz 560.

You listen to Drive Radio because you have a lot of questions about your car. You have questions about what kind of oil to use, what the best tires are, where to get the best parts. But have you ever asked what will happen to your car after you die? Did you know that if you don’t have a will that specifically states what will happen, a probate judge will order your family to split your car evenly. And because you can’t cut up a car into pieces, your family will be forced to sell it and just split the money. According to Michael Bailey, the mobile estate planner, it is estimated that two out of three people die don’t have a proper will in place. And oftentimes, things like your favorite classic car are accidentally forgotten completely. Michael understands that the only way to be absolutely certain that all of your final wishes will be honored is to take a small amount of time to talk about it. 720-394-6887. 720-394-6887. All right, and we are back again. We’ve got Roy and Dietze both from ProTech Auto Shield with us today, which I appreciate greatly. They’re over in Wheat Ridge, so those of you that are dragging things out, you’re looking to have some things done, you want some window tint, you need to do some PPF, paint correction, ceramic coating. Hail comes through, and you need some PDR, some paintless dent removal, which, just as a side note, The technology there, and Roy and I share things back and forth all the time, and the ability to now take out dents without ever doing anything to the finish of the car is, you’d almost think it’s miraculous. I don’t know how else to say it. I mean, literally, there are dents that you can take out now without ever touching the paint on the car that I don’t know how, I mean, it’s just, it’s an art. I don’t know how else to say it, Roy.
SPEAKER 25 :
That depends on the PDR person. Right. The technician. It’s an art. It’s an art. It really is.
SPEAKER 26 :
It’s an art. There’s all sorts of things that they’ve got now, folks, where you can lay lines on the car to even see where the dent is and the folks can adjust according to those lines that they map out on the car and all sorts of things now to where you can stretch the metal, heat the metal, cool the metal, do all sorts of things. And again, to Roy’s point, it really comes down to the technician doing it and how well do they do their job. And it’s an art. I mean, I’m not exaggerating when I say that. It literally is an art. Of course, Mark here from… Cannibal Auto Care as well up in Broomfield. Appreciate him joining us. Buck and Cheyenne, you’re next.
SPEAKER 12 :
Good morning, or good afternoon. Good afternoon, Buck. Nice day up here. About 65, slight breeze. Nice. Still a nice day.
SPEAKER 26 :
Nice.
SPEAKER 12 :
As you know, I bought one of these cars that has a direct gasoline engine into it. And with the carbon on the valves and stuff and having to do that every so often. And I got to rummage it around and found out they make catch cans that you can put on those.
SPEAKER 26 :
They do.
SPEAKER 12 :
I’m wondering… Some guys swear by them, Buck.
SPEAKER 26 :
Yeah, my feeling is you don’t need them. If you do your oil changes correctly and we’re handling things with the EPR that we talk with guys like Mark about continually, Buck, the reality is, no, I don’t feel like you need catch cans. There’s a lot of guys recommending, especially certain types of vehicles. We mentioned the 3.5 EcoBoost with Conrad a moment ago. A lot of guys will tell you on a 3.5 you’ve got to run a catch can and this, that, and the other. reality is buck no i’m not a fan of those i don’t think you have to i don’t want to say it’s gimmicky i think in certain applications they work guys that are racing and doing you know maybe more hardcore things with the vehicle might be appropriate to do but if you keep up on the engine maintenance and take care of things the way you need to you do not need a catch can okay well that’s what i was wondering i see you could buy them anywhere from about twenty dollars to about four hundred dollars correct uh
SPEAKER 12 :
I’m guessing the $400 ones would work better than the $20 ones. I was mostly just curious.
SPEAKER 26 :
Yeah, not necessary in my opinion. Another one of those devices that I think companies are making and they sell a lot of, and there’s isolated cases where I think that’s appropriate, but in general, no.
SPEAKER 12 :
Okay. Well, that’s all I wanted. I wanted… knowledge from somebody who knew a whole lot more about them than I do.
SPEAKER 26 :
Well, thank you, Buck. Appreciate you calling.
SPEAKER 12 :
I appreciate it.
SPEAKER 26 :
Well, thank you. Have a good one, sir. Appreciate you calling. Have fun up in Wyoming. Somebody also texted in, do I have recommendations on the dash cam? I don’t, and I hate to say that, but I don’t. I use some of these now in my own company, but it’s on a fleet. It’s through a different company that the retail public can’t buy and have access to because it works along with the other telematics I have in the fleet. And all I would say is just look at what’s out there, Amazon or whatever. Look at the reviews. What are they saying about that particular product? They all basically work the same way, meaning they’re constantly recording. And you can buy dash cams that look out the front, look out the back, sometimes out the sides even. Depends on what you buy. And that camera system is always recording. And some are thinking, well, geez, that’s a lot of stuff to keep storage of. Well, it doesn’t store it all. It’s always recording. But what happens is if there’s an incident, it then backs up and says, okay, I want the past four minutes. And I’m going to store that. And I’m going to store it until the end of the incident. And then that’s it. That’s all I need to capture. And, yes, the technology is smart enough to know that. how to do all of that, and they’ll do it instantaneously. Or in some cases, you’ve seen some of the videos where the truck driver will actually hit a button and record, which you can do as well. In a lot of cases, if you want to make sure that you’re recording, you go up, hit a button, and it will do the exact same thing. So let’s say somebody cuts you off, but no accidents happen. Well, the dash cam’s not going to store that, but you can manually say, I want to do that by just touching the camera and telling it to do so. So, again, look at the different ones that are out there. I don’t have a preference. I personally don’t use one in my personal vehicle. I do think this – we’re getting into the day and age now where if you put a lot of miles on a vehicle, myself included, probably not a bad idea to have just because of all the knuckleheads that are out there running around trying to, in some cases, create havoc, even create accidents whereby – They know that there’s potential for an insurance claim there, and if they can get you to run into the back of them by acting like a goofball, not a bad idea probably to have a dash cam to protect yourself along those lines. And, Roy, this is probably more, and you see a lot of vehicles that come and go. Is this something you guys see or have much familiarity with?
SPEAKER 25 :
No.
SPEAKER 26 :
Other than Teslas?
SPEAKER 25 :
Yeah. Which comes standard? Yeah, all the new cars, I mean, the Teslas, yeah.
SPEAKER 26 :
The Teslas have 360, by the way.
SPEAKER 19 :
Rivian also has one.
SPEAKER 26 :
And for some of you, you know that because you’re seeing videos of where a guy keys the side of a Tesla and it’s all been recorded because, yes, that’s what they do. So anybody that keys a Tesla is a moron because they just don’t know that technology, I guess, is there. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I don’t know why they do that. Makes no sense to me. At any rate, so, all right, as you guys are, again, pulling things out of the garage and wanting to get some things done, don’t forget ProTech AutoShield. They’re there to help you with all of that, whether it’s a full detail, which you guys do detailing totally different than anybody else because you’re pulling seats and doing all sorts of things that… Nobody else does. So you’re actually doing a detail the way it’s supposed to be done. So in the case of Roy and Dietze, yes, anything you need, by all means, take it over there, get it all done for you. And they’ve got everything in-house. So if you want to look at what they’ve got as far as the paper protection film goes or wraps or any of that kind of stuff at all, you guys can walk them through all of that right there, correct? Yeah.
SPEAKER 09 :
Correct.
SPEAKER 26 :
All right. And, Mark, as we head down the stretch, Memorial Day, those of you that are up in the north end of town that need stuff done before you head out of town, you’ve got ability, Mark, this week to get folks in, get them handled, dialed in, and so on? We’ve got five days. Okay. So those of you that are trying to get out of town, get in, get that taken care of, and get it handled. And sooner than later, because the week for Mark and every other shop, by the way, will build. So if you’re looking to do something, get that done. Mark, give me your phone number real quick.
SPEAKER 06 :
303-460-9969.
SPEAKER 26 :
